In the rare time I get to actually sit down and relax, it is very nice to be able to play small coop PVE missions with close friends & family and also play solo still having fun while upgrading the characters while others aren't available. I don't mind not being able to talk with others in game outside of the party chat as its actually nice to get cut-off from all the teenage kids spouting nonsense degrading my gaming adventure. It's like a serene experience that you can escape to and just have fun exploring the planets while battling aliens of various factions. The Sci-Fi theme is refreshing and genuine. Graphics are beautiful. As for all the comparisons out there trying to figure out what version is better between the ps4 and the xbox one, all in all they look the same and play the same. I seriously doubt one is better over the other and recommend to find the version your friends are playing. Expand

I love this game and it's difficulty is such that I actually feel good when I finish a mission. The only bad thing is that I don't have friends to play with so I am a solo which makes it take longer on certain missions.

I myself had high expectations since Bungie was behind the wheel developing the game, but was left highly disappointed after playing the game for just three weeks.

Destiny does get a-lot right. Destiny is a beautiful game with great visuals and awe-inspiring sky-boxes. Gameplay is fantastic. The music is good, but not nearly as good as Halo's music (Bungie, why on God's green Earth did you fire MARTY O'DONNEL? The mastermind behind Halo's incredible music?! Idiots...) Multiplayer is phenomenal and is what I spend most of my time playing. Bungie, as always, does a great job in this regard.

Unfortunately, Destiny's positives are outweighed by it's negatives. The game suffers from an insane amount of repetitiveness. You'll find yourself playing the exact same missions over and over and over and over again. For what? For nothing. The loot system was greatly flawed the last time I played (I know there was recently an update to fix it, but I haven't played it since then). These two issues alone are what make the game incredibly boring to play.

But it gets worst. The campaign mode is a complete and utter joke. There is barely a story, and what story is there is uninteresting and dull. I was expecting a Mass Effect/Halo like grand and intricate space opera that I could play over and over without getting bored. Will I be replaying Destiny's story? Not a chance.

Overall, it was a major disappointment and I hope Bungie gets their act together with future Destiny titles.

This game had promise but my biggest issue is playing at 30fps....it's simply not acceptable for a shooter. And for me that makes Destiny totally as in 100% worthless as a game.

Destiny is an enjoyable game for most fans of FPS games. However, it depends how bland you want it to be.

The story (or lack of) is not engaging and doesn't grasp you at any point. The Story Missions are alright, but most of them have you grounded in one place surviving wave after wave of enemies. It gets very repetitive. There is no backstory given to the type of enemies in the game,

It gets very repetitive. There is no backstory given to the type of enemies in the game, i.e. - Fallen, Vex etc.

Perhaps the best part about the Co-Op experience would be that the Strike Missions have you battle through wave of enemies and bosses within 45 minutes. This gives you loot at the end of the Strike Mission which is usually pretty valuable.

The "free-roam" aspect of the game can be enjoyable, depending on your tolerance and addiction to getting better loot. You will be wrecking weak enemies on the plains of different planets all to find a single loot box. The loot boxes usually contain Glimmer (the game's currency) and an additional piece of loot which can be a gun, armor or something completely useless. This part of the games also offers "missions" but these are mind-numbingly dull - they require you to kill a certain enemy or pick up certain items for very little reward.

Perhaps the most fun part of the experience would be the Multiplayer (The Crucible). The Crucible offers 5 game modes - some of which I enjoyed (Control, Clash and Rumble), one which was awful (Skirmish 3vs3).

Leveling up is pretty quick, I got to Level 20 within 24 hours. From 20, you have to equip Armor which has Light as a perk to level up. I'm not sure what level you can get to yet, but I haven't hit a cap thus far.

If you enjoyed Borderlands, you'll probably enjoy this game as it requires you to do mind-numbing tasks to get more loot. The Multiplayer is more like Halo: Reach than any other Halo.

To Conclude, it's a fairly enjoyable game. I could see myself playing it further as long as there is a high level cap.

Maybe they just ran out of time and money, or perhaps there were creative differences within Bungie. Though the base shooting mechanics are solid enough, there just isn't enough content here. The story campaign is a mess;a string of 'kill everything until time runs out' missions with no tangible or coherent narrative. There are perhaps 3 'NPC characters' in the game, who have barely any dialogue and whose motivations, origins and actions are largely unexplained. Indeed, you don't even know their names.

The climactic final battle is laughable and again, it's not clear exactly how you win - you basically shoot a bunch of fairly ordinary, slow-moving enemies with small munitions, and then get a 'Congratulations, you saved the world and defeated the darkness', cutscene. Even by FPS standards that's incredibly thin. If you're looking for a epic space opera like the Mass Effect series (flawed as they are) you're going to be sorely disappointed. Even 'grinding lootfests' like the Borderlands or Diablo series have vastly more meat to their narratives,

If you're looking for an MMO in space, you'll also be disappointed, as you're visiting the same four areas over and over grinding the same maps. Imagine if an MMO, World of Warcraft opened today with only four areas, a single home city, and perhaps 20 different enemies. Now imagine that each area is actually fairly small, with perhaps one 'dungeon' and the 'home city' is 3 buildings occupied only by stationary vendors and faction representatives. There is no feeling of travel, life, size or scope that you would hope for.

The three classes not only look pretty much the same, they play pretty much the same aside from some differences in their 'class super attack'. Everyone is using roughly the same weapons and approaches combat in the same way. In strikes, you're not going to care or remember what class anyone else played. You have three 'races' but the difference is only cosmetic. Your characters strangely, can't be named.

After you finish the laughably thin campaign and hit level 20, which will take you maybe a dozen hours, all there is to do is grind the same 4 bosses over and over, and participate in PVP matches. Problems with team PVP include people dropping out of matches when they start to lose (no penalty for this) and in PVE strikes, players going AFK for the entire duration forcing the remaining players to carry out the mission on their own (and they will still get the same rewards). Some AFKers will just queue into a playlist and automatically join into missions over and over, and AFK themselves to riches.

The game gets a 6 from me because killing monsters and looting is fun. I have a thick skin, and like games like Diablo 3 (in it's current state, not the misguided mess it was on release) and Borderlands. But it's so half-baked in so many ways I can't give it more. It's been a little less than three weeks and the repetition is already starting to get to me. That's saying a lot coming from a guy who has subscribed to maybe a dozen different MMO's and is a big Diablo/Borderlands fan.

    - No custom matches for multiplayer, Only match-making and NO SPLIT-SCREEN local play! Considering Bungie were the kings of coach co-op you would have thought that split-screen would be in Destiny considering the game is heavily focused on co-op play.

The only positive things I can say about Destiny is the gun-play feels great and the soundtrack is AMAZING! Marty O'donnell did fantastic job as usual but overall the game is one of the most disappointing and over-hyped game of 2014!

Bungie is, hands down, one of my top 5 favorite developers in the industry. After all, Bungie makes everyone of their games with such care and consideration to every aspect. TheBungie is, hands down, one of my top 5 favorite developers in the industry. After all, Bungie makes everyone of their games with such care and consideration to every aspect. Halo is also my favorite video game franchise ever. So of course, I immediately jumped on the hype train for Destiny the day it was announced, even though I'm personally not a fan of what it does to certain games. The big, big, BIG question is (quite possibly the biggest question of the year in gaming): Does Destiny live up to the quality of Halo and can it also be the best game Bungie will ever create? To be honest, I absolutely adored Destiny the first week and a half. However, the more you think about the game and get deeper into it, you start to realise how many glaring flaws there are that put nasty dents on the experience. Don't get me wrong, though, there's a lot of damn good stuff here. But it won't last for long. Let's start with the good. Destiny gets the fundamental gameplay or shooting done perfectly. With the ability to double jump or glide and slide, the combat gains a new aspect of versatility, different from your other shooters. The game also has 2 abilities for each class that were cool and creative. I felt the core shooting felt a lot like Halo, which was amazing. Plus, when in combat areas, the game gives you enough room or cover to feel safe, but not too much to make you feel like you're stuck in a metal cube. Another stunning facet of Destiny is its graphics. Remember the jaw-dropping feeling you had playing Halo 1 and stepping out of the landing ship in the second mission to see the Halo ring in the sky and everything around you? When playing Destiny and just looking at the world around you, that same feeling comes up. The graphics are just so amazing. Destiny also uses loot systems with gear and weapons. While the loot system has some fundamental flaws (more on that later), it was a good gear game, and I always pushed myself to get better gear and weapons (EARLY ON). I also enjoyed the PvP a lot here and there. That's all the good. Now...THE BAD. Destiny takes inspirations from games like Borderlands or Diablo for its loot system, and it's not nearly as good here. Drop rates are very rare up until level 12 or 13, and the loot rewards you get for every mission complete are irritatingly random. On the subject of class diversity, I only played as the Hunter, and I had moderate fun with his abilities. The story of this game....WOW. Wait, did I say "story"? There's barely any at all! In the "story" missions I never felt as if there was a genuinely good reason of why I had to do this-and-that because most of the time, there wasn't any reason at all. There's only like 5 (maybe even less) cutscenes in the game, and when they do come around, they felt awkward and worthless. Halo is story-driven, and I get that Destiny is NOT Halo, but its pathetic that we would get this much storyline from Bungie. In terms of the mission structure, I kinda felt repetitive. I did say that I liked the PvP, but it can be unbalanced. Maybe about 40% of the time, I died from Super Charge abilities. CHEAP. The guns, though, for the most part, are balanced. Bungie has made comments saying the game "changes" after level 20. I got to level 22 before I stopped playing. You know why? The game becomes a complete, boring drag after level 20. To level up after that level, you must get gear with "light" on it. To do this, you'll find yourself in a constant grind for the good gear. When grinding, you'll be repeating missions a lot. The game just proves itself to be boring after that point. The game sprinkles in MMO aspects, but sadly, they don't go deep enough. I don't want you guys to think I dislike Destiny 'cause I sure as hell don't. However, the flaws take away big parts of the experience. You'll play the game for about 20 hours, and then you're just done. Simple as that. Buy the game at $45 or less. Expand

I have played the Beta, completed the campaign and all side missions, and played the crucible. I have experienced nearly all the game currently has to offer, so this review is thorough. To wrap it all together I will do a Pro/Con list below.

    Pros:
    1) This game IS a great shooter. The guns feel responsive and well made, and have incredible art detail. They are also up-gradable, which makes switching weapons a fun decision making process.
    2) The universe itself is rich with lore. Yes, I know a lot of questions are lingering out there but we have to look at that from an RPG point of view. Your ghost explains right off the start that you wont understand everything, so don't worry about it!
    3) The enemies, while repetitive, are fun and challenging. Sure the AI wont challenge the hardcore shooter, but it gives enough of a challenge to keep things interesting. Oh, and the AI isn't all that bad like others are saying. It is well above par for games in the same genre both shooters and MMOs.
    4) Peter Dinklage. At first I wasn't sold on his voice acting on Ghost, but once you progress past the starter levels (lvl 10+), his character really blossoms. You start to see banter between your guardian (Nathan Fillion) and Ghost (Dinklage) and it is an enjoyable experience.
    5) Lastly, the art design in this game is gorgeous. Every environment I stepped into felt fresh and exciting. Everything really seemed to come across as it was supposed to, from the dark caverns on the moon to the lush abandoned (sort of) cities on Venus. It is a beautiful looking game all the way down to the armor and guns.

    Cons:
    1) Length. I have beaten every story mission, aside from three strikes, and reached the "max" level of 20. There are higher levels, but you will find that out later yourself I'm sure. Back to the point, for a $60 game as hyped and as expensive as Destiny... I only spent 22 hours in game. That's 22 hours beating all story missions, playing several hours in the crucible, and replaying several story missions with friends. The campaign itself realistically probably only took me 15 hours to beat. This is a game that cost $500-million to make and took 5 years? In comparison, the most recent Assassin's Creed: Black Flag game got me 25+ hours on the campaign and well over another 30 hours in side missions and lollygagging. Another comparison, Skyrim. Skyrim took 5+ years to make and it STILL offers me new game play to this day. 400 hours+.
    2) Communication. While making a party to play with friends isn't difficult, meeting anyone in-game is nearly impossible. You HAVE to use the party system to speak, which makes no sense what-so-ever. If a free-to-play game like Warframe can master in-game chat, why can a massive budget Bungie game do it? This is a serious shortcoming and something Bungie needs to address pronto.
    3) Repetition. While I did enjoy the story itself, I did notice a lot of repeat mission styles. Go here, plug me in, go there, plug me in and defend, boss, rinse and repeat. I guess I'm lucky the campaign was so short, because much more of the same mission styles and I would've gotten bored.
    4) Lastly, PVP. With a background of elite FPS shooters that Bungie has, I expected more from their PVP. I know the game is mainly about the story, but if you are going to add a PVP segment don't make it an afterthought. With only four game modes (2 of which are basically the same) and lack of balance it becomes annoying and boring very quickly. I can't play for too long before I notice how overpowered high levels are compared to the newcomers. This will kill their PVP unless a major change is initiated.

Thanks everyone for reading, I know I'm long winded, but I feel it all needed to be said. Overall this game isn't bad, but it isn't an amazing game either. With the hype, funding, and general Bungie-ness that was behind this game, it makes me wonder what happened. It took five years and while there is a great game to be played, it doesn't quite come through correctly. I am hopeful that Destiny will get better through updates and DLC, but for now a 7/10 seems fitting. Enjoy!

I want so badly to love this game completely. I really do. But the story, the mission structure, the low level cap, and the overall lack of content keeps me from that.
STORY: The story has some cool moments, but they never reach anything that will leave you awestruck. The story is told almost exclusively via your Ghost, who explains the objective and motive of a mission as you're traveling to it. The story never feels like it's really going anywhere, and the resolution is disappointing and confusing at best (and let's not forget 'clichéd'). The lore or backstory in the game's universe is astounding, however. Listening to your Ghost explain past events and information on different alien races is a real treat, and it definitely shows that Bungie put a lot of heart and soul into this game.
MISSION STRUCTURE: It's true, the missions are incredibly linear, uninteresting, and almost identical to each other. Go to X, Go to Y, hold off the enemies while your Ghost takes forever to do something, kill a mini-boss, return to ship, repeat. That pretty much sums up every single mission in the game with the exception of maybe one or two.
LEVEL CAP: It's basically 20. I know people argue that you can level past 20, but it isn't really 'leveling'. Basically, once you reach level 20 (which doesn't take long), you cease earning experience entirely. Instead, you'll be rewarded with an item called a 'Mote of Light' periodically, which can be used to purchase legendary equipment. This, however, takes forever, as it can take over an hour to get one of these items and you need 25 of them per piece of equipment. Furthermore, your character's level can only go above 20 if you're wearing special equipment that raises your 'Light' level. Basically -- you don't level up, you just equip armor that raises your stats (such equipment is also very rare, mind you).
CONTENT: Just the fact that so many people have already completed the game and have reached level 20 should say all you need to know here. There are only 4 locations to explore throughout the entire game. That's right, only 4 planets, each with only 1 unique area to explore (though these areas are broken up into different regions, they're still small and linear feeling). Every mission on Earth happens in the same area, every mission on the Moon is in the same area, etcetera. Also, there are only a few Strike (Boss) missions. While these are quite rewarding when it comes to loot and leveling, having only 5 or 6 of these to play through means you'll be repeating missions far too many times. The game play is absolutely fantastic, though, and the mechanics can really make this game addicting to the point that you might not totally mind redoing missions you've played a dozen times.

Destiny is a beautiful, fast paced, action-packed adventure; but it lacks character and suffers for it. The game content is bare-bones, and it feels like the story was haphazardly slapped together. You'll enjoy this game if you enjoy FPS games or MMO games, or if you just enjoy shooting-and-looting Borderlands style. However, if you're expecting an amazing story driven campaign, you'll find yourself in complete shock when you complete the game in just over 6 hours of play time. Bungie certainly poured the heart into this game, but it's clear that they might have poured it into the wrong areas, leaving the story and content a barren wasteland that's bound to dry up soon.

I don't understand how these other reviews seem to be either a perfect 10 or a total 0. Those aren't helpful reviews.

The only good thing this game had going for it was the worlds, and the trickery that made you feel like there would be a crazy story behind everything
However, all of the missions are told through audio files in loading screens
And all of the missions are the repetitive "shoot everyone here and move on" Gameplay
The story lacks depth and the ability to even tell a story
There were about 5 cut scenes in the whole game, to which it ended abruptly
It feels like they are stretching a piece of **** out, by making the few guns and armor they made, impossible to get without hours of gameplay and "luck" drops
The entire game is focused on 4 maps, impressively beautiful and large, however with nothing fresh in gameplay- it somehow feels quite empty. This is not a world with 16 players all doing their own thing either- like they advertised, but it's more like you run into a stranger or two every few minutes
The "traveler" did nothing the entire game. It just floated. Never spoke, never even nudged. It feels like Bungie is trying to set up a series but sadly, this is not a series I am interested in.
TDM is fun, I guess, if it weren't so sloppy and unfair. I was able to use a cheap weapon to get 30 kills every game just because I chose to hold it
We as gamers shouldn't let big companies do this to us, they sold us an unfinished game to which- if you didn't know- their are parts in the maps that are blocked off completely and only through glitches can you get through and explore huge sections that are being hid. Obviously these sections are being saved for DLC.
DLC!!??!??? THE GAME JUST CAME OUT.

Instead, what I feel like they accomplished is to create a safe and sound foundation for the future. The building blocks are in place and they have a lot of room to improve and grow upon.

Maybe they should have omitted some aspects of the game to focus more on the lore and reinforcing it's core because while people actually get a fair amount of game here.. somehow people feel cheated in a way. I've played lesser games and heard far less criticisms about them so the hype train clearly messed with a lot of people. This game is just spread out a bit different than a lot of games.

I love the lighting and graphics, the music, the weapons and their tongue in cheek descriptions but the story is so lacking and so are many of the details that game enthusiasts crave. After everything, we still don't know jack about the damn traveler and it's on the box. Weird. I also find it weird that at this very moment, my character's armor looks so close to being a spartan, it's ridiculous. He's shiney green and everything. He's a guardian.. and meanwhile halo 5 is named: Halo 5 guardians. They are totally connected, how can they not be? Big dead sphere... Didact.. etc... Thinking of this game in that universe does make me like it more lol

The bottom line.. I'm not hooked on the story or my character. I almost am... almost.. I feel like there should have been a revelation to tie it all together better but I am still confident that Bungie will build this franchise into something special in the future.

Then you're saying that game has appeal. If you say, "i want more," and the game gives you more, then the game has holding power, which is different than replay value, which is one aspect of holding power. Anyway, Destiny tried to excel at one while neglecting the other. They created a game that is designed to have a broad appeal, but forgot that once you get people interested, you have to hold them there, or you won't continue to make money or be able to slow loss of profits to the used game industry.

This game does a lot right. Graphics that are stunning to many, though not all. The musical score is enough to create a moving experience in and of itself. The gameplay mechanics, which are the most important, are solid. We would hope so since it was Bungie that gave FPS a more accessible and, yes, broader appeal. These are things anyone coming to this game expected, even without marketing, but where this game falls short is in some areas that should have been no brainers.

Story - The story is unforgivably bare bones. I"m talking context that could have been filled in with simple dialogue during the gameplay. Such as your ghost giving a quick run down of the Hive when you first encounter them. You shouldn't have to go any where for that. What are the different enemies connection to each other? The Darkness? Many of my friends didn't realize the differences. The story is, essentially, unfleshed. They made no effort to make it a resonating part of the game. That being said, it's Bungie. No matter what their marketing scheme is, that they would skimp on the story and emphasize the multiplayer should have been expected. And that brings us to the multiplayer aspect.

Multiplayer - Limited. The crucible is tons of fun or completely broken depending on who you ask. Since the job of this game was to have a broad appeal, if people are split down the middle that sort of insinuates a fail. Though I'm sure plant of sophists out there will gladly argue how the day is actually night. Also, for a game that is supposed to have a broad appeal, a lot of the multiplayer elements sure are exclusionary. Several aspects, including the much anticipated Raids, require time and effort many folk don't have. Forces people to find and schedule time with friends when they may not have that time, then forcing them to finish a campaign in a certain amount of time or suffer a reset (unless I understood that wrong). I suppose they wanted to reward their most hard core players, but, mathematically, the less people that are able to participate, well, the more likely those people are to go pay money for other games that include them. It's just business.

RPG Aspect - Shallow and monotonous. The soft cap seems like a good idea, except the loot system makes everything a chore. Final bosses, which take up a good portion of time in the mission, do not drop rare loot more easily. That makes the final boss fight . . . a waste of your time. After several run throughs, the challenge is gone, so the only thing left is the loot. After having been stuck with the same pair of boots but having gone through several of everything else. I gave up. Borderlands PreSequel is coming out. Why bang my head on loot that won't come when I can play a game that both makes you work for and actually rewards you?

Bungie had some good ideas, they just didn't develop them fully. The formula goes like this:

Breadth = appeal (the variety of people who are interested)
Depth = Holding power (the amount of material in each aspect that keeps a player's attention)

    Their score is as follows:

Breadth - 7 - they went for the gold, made a good push, generated a lot of interest

Depth - 4 - They won't make it stick unless they start adding/changing some things and make the game more dynamic in loot and leveling up. Also it needs to be more accessible on their more desirable loot and missions.

It was a good try Bungie. I think you missed the mark a little. Only time will tell.

Putting that aside, Strike missions have been a lot of fun, giving the player to join up with fellow gamers and take down the forces of the Fallen, Hive, Vex and Cabal. Bungie also constantly update newer missions such as Raid missions which makes Destiny gaming experience very valuable, plus team work becomes essential.

Also the Crucible is a fun multiplayer zone that gives the player an idea of how tough a Titan, Worlock or Hunter you really are.

Let's not forget that the soundtrack is incredible, the visuals are a delight and the smooth gameplay has made this game grow on me since release day.

Their are guns that are simple over powered and they are starting weapons which leaves players with the response "if you can't beat them join them".
The diversity in the weapons is great but again, it leaves the lower levels at a big disadvantage not being able to wield the high level weapons. If that is not enough for you, the perks; higher level players have, can leave low levels at the player mercy. I'm a grown man with family and a job. Why does that matter? Because if nothing else I have a limited amount of time available to play video games and as such have no desire to waste it all for literally almost no tangible progress. It feels like for nearly 100+ hours spent, as I have since level 25 or so, to have barely have reached level 28, still have participated in NO raids, there is really no good reason for me to keep playing. This game should be Exhibit A of Bungie completely forgetting what they knew and were good at and passing off this over-hyped to an otherwise unsuspecting but still loyal fanbase.

Bungie, you fooled me this time and in the process burned up all the goodwill I had saved up for you. I won't be spending $35 or more for any of the DLC and at this point nearly two months after you launched the game I will not be purchasing any further installments of this title. Destiny had so much potential. The concept for Destiny was great, actually (only if one liked the grind). But Bungie decided to release an unfinished game and mark it at full price. Not to mention vanilla Destiny was a year long beta.

Destiny had so much potential. The concept for Destiny was great, actually (only if one liked the grind). But Bungie decided to release an unfinished game and mark it at full price. Not to mention vanilla Destiny was a year long beta.

Lets do some math real quick:

Assuming the player bought the expansion pass**

    Destiny: $60
Expansion pass(included Dark Below and House of Wolves): $30 (save $10)
    Taken King: $40

So to actually have full access to Destiny, someone had to spend $130 or $140 if one didn't buy the expansion pass. That makes no sense. $130 could have bought two full priced games. It seems that Bungie is only worried about money.

Other than Destiny being a very expensive game- the story or campaign doesn't exist. It's literally the same mission with slightly different environments. The character waits for the Ghost to open a door that just happens to take three(3)*waves of enemies to open. The raids are kind of what saves the game. Just for the fun factor though.

So basically, Destiny is an expensive unfinished game that requires the user to buy the DLCs to play the game properly.

    Breakdown:

Story/Campaign: +0/2 (Story is extremely unclear)
Graphics: +2/2 (Very futuristic and crisp)
Mechanics: +2/2 (Every mechanic works great. Rare frame rate drops. Little to no lag most of the time)
DLC: +0/2 (only because the DLC is basically required)
Matchmaking: +0/2 (Some weapons are incredibly overpowered than others- like shotguns)

    Total: +4/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has incredibly been one of my favorite games. It is nice how it is based on different planets. The game is good for ages 11-15 (Recommended). What is great about this game is that it has a story mode that can be played with six people online. It takes 50 minutes to do one raid but it's worth it. What is kind of sad is that Xbox Live must be bought to enjoy multiplayer missions. Once you are done with all levels, it is very boring and some people may not have the dark below, the taken king, or the house of wolves so you just do levels again. The people without Xbox Live look at the levels and feel very jealous that everyone else has it and they don't. On level 34, I did patrols and I couldn't gain any experience, something was wrong. One suggestion is to make expansion levels unlocked so it doesn't get so boring. Xbox is ridiculously stupid for having to pay online. Expand

What shooter fan wouldn’t want a Halo meets Borderlands game? The music and level scripting from Halo and the shooting and looting of Borderlands, 2 great tastes that taste great together. Perfect! Since then the game has launched and the reaction, both personally and professionally, is lukewarm. The reviews have been less than expected from what Bungie’s pedigree would have predicted and the internet has been ablaze with hilarious Twitter parody accounts. But I digress. Despite the lack of story and the busted loot system, I have been enjoying my jaunt around the universe. Maybe a little too much…
I am a recovering WoW addict, always will be. Farming, raiding, grinding, you name it, I did it. So going on to my second full year of being Blizzard free has been a learning experience. Needless to say, I can spot a MMO when I see it. I really don’t care how Bungie tries to spin it, Destiny is a MMO.
If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it’s not a raccoon. We have the easy comparisons. Raids, colored items and weapons, rep farming for rewards, collectable mounts. All real easy to spot as a MMO trope and Bungie can’t deny it. But what is harder to spot and not as easy to identify as a characteristic of an MMO are the social features and implications.
Arguably the best thing to come from Destiny is the loot cave. An endless spawning black hole of green, blue and purple shinnies that have players huddled around a dirt mound shooting in a straight line. It was a fruitful process and netted me many new items and materials. And now it’s gone, hot fixed in a Thursday morning patch. But the social experience continues. Years down the road we can say “remember the loot cave?” While it does live on in a web based game, those that missed out will never know what it’s like to mindlessly shoot into a hole. Well, at least the way we did. A similar comparison is the war effort in WoW. Do you remember where you were when the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj were opened on your server? I don’t, because I wasn’t playing when that happened. That killed me as a WoW player, and continues to kill me as a Destiny player. I don’t want to miss out.
These kind of social experiences and events are what keep me going back to Destiny. I don’t want to miss anything that the world will be talking about tomorrow. So much so that I used the Destiny LFG to join a raid group full of people I don’t know. I was in the Vault of Glass, shouting out terms like “burn the adds” and “I can rez in 5”, all for what? To say I completed raid content when it was relevant? We all know it’s not for the gear that drops, or lack thereof.
Social gaming is a powerful tool. It keeps players interest and motivated, a blessing and a curse. But for me, it triggers too many old feelings of having to log just so that I don’t miss out on that all important pair of pants or new accessory for my digital doll.

It's really sad, because this game had and has so much potential... Graphics are cool imho, Fights are nice (AI is stupid, but that's nothing uncommon in FPS...)and the artwork and design of the world is sweet.
But then there are some design decisions, that no sane person could seriously make.
For example, the PvP mode is just bad. There are literally thousands of fps out now with better PvP than this. It just feels random and unbalanced, like something an Indie dev team would make in like 4 weeks...
Those stupid raids, where you need 5 other mouthbreathers to _just_start_ this thing. And pray to god nobody drops out or that anyone is in the mood to tell you noob how this works (why haven't you read the guid?!)...
I mean seriously... I've played more complex things with only chat communication and random players. But Bungie (or whoever is in charge) tells me "you need to meet those people in some lobby or via facebook, collect some malware on the way and don't make any friends, because our community is only consisting of terrible people"

But the real reason for giving this game 0/10: it is a big sham!

There is a ton of dlc, but no really addition of gameplay... They just drop in a few new items and make your precious old gear useless (really useless, just throw it away... seriously!) They promised a story, that never came. I don't know what the **** is going on in this game. Why are we fighting? Who is the enemy? Why are there different fractions?

I could go on like this for a while, but I already wasted hundreds of hours on this game and I have to live on now... you should also do that!

The good -- The graphics and the interface are gorgeous. And the combat mechanics are top-notch; it's clear that Bungie brings a world of experience to the table, gleaned from their work on the Halo franchise. Leveling up your character and getting better gear are a lot of fun. Multiplayer is a great experience. Your character is already equipped with a vehicle; you don't have to earn it. Plus, the AI of the aliens are among the best that I've seen in a game.

The bad -- There is minimal storyline. Missions are small (kill x number of these, or pick up x number of those) and feel repetitive and purposeless. Maps are large, but the missions have you running back and forth over the same map, rather than progressing from one end of the map to the other.

The ugly -- Peter Dinklage's frequently-heard voice work is lackluster, and among the worst I've heard in a video game. And overall, the game feels a bit light, as if they were holding back a lot of content for the two expansions that have been announced.

Conclusion -- Like I said, the combat mechanics are excellent. This is a great game for people who are more casual than hardcore. I plan on buying this game at some point, but not at full retail. I'm going to give it six months and pick it up for half price.

On one hand, you've got interesting open worlds where you can bump into other players here and there and tackle meaningful content with small 3-player groups. The missions and boss fights are highly replayable and customizing your character to a certain play style is outstanding within the FPS genre. On the other hand, Destiny isn't built well enough to weather the gaming world. It is a flash of excitement, praise and continued consumption one moment, an abandoned war fortress the next. The worlds of Destiny are limited in their scope and the content barely exceeds skin depth. You cannot throw yourself into this game and feel both challenged and interested a month or two later, because once you've reached a level cap and played a handful of "strikes" and done your "raid", it all quickly comes to a halt. Like World of Warcraft, the game is meant to be repetitive, but what sets most MMORPGs above the cut is how meaningful the game is once you get to where you're ultimately going. The challenge to take on the game's most difficult moments and come out victorious with your friends, the champions of PvP (competitive multiplayer) showing their skills and being rewarded for it. It's these things that hurt Destiny in the long run. I absolutely love this game for its butter-smooth gunplay and feel. Nothing feels wasted or worthless (even if I don't prefer fusion rifles, they serve a purpose and have their strong-suits). Bungie is perhaps king of balance, and their creative sparks show up in spots, but you cannot deny that this is very much a Halo 2.0, or what Halo could be like if you opened up the sandbox and went to town. That would be fine if the story wasn't so muddied and incoherent most of the time. This is the first year of Destiny and, despite all of its shortcomings, is still worth the price of entry. That's the true incredible feat here, but if you're jumping in to the game late, be prepared to miss out on the end game content that was worth playing in the first year, because after two short DLC packs, year 2 is upon us with a grander Taken King expansion that is taking this game in the direction it should have always been going. This game is not what was promised or hyped. The PVP is especially awful. Unbalanced maps combine with terrible lag issues, easily exploited game mechanics (lag locking the other team) and "i win button" super powers. The fact that we're forced to play PVP to earn certain guns only angers the players more. This company doubles down on bad decisions and just keeps making beginner mistakes.

Extremely shallow gameplay. The story missions are nice but you are only on each planet for a very short time period before you are shuffled off onto the next planet. Once you hit 20 then the game becomes a very BORING grindfest in a poorly made MMO design.

First off the campaign. This is certainly an area that is lacking in depth and quality of story we expect from the majority of FPS games and after Bungie gave us Halo we expected so much more. There is a distinct lack of story and the missions tend to be the same - either ending in a boss fight or waves of enemies. This really has a negative impact on the campaign part of the game but its not until you reach the end-game that the reason the mission structure and lack of cut-scenes are designed this way becomes apparent. They are like mini 'Strikes' and are used for 'Daily' missions for end game activity and extra rewards - this wouldn't be possible or at least work as well if the missions were more traditional. I feel as though Bungie sacrificed 'Story' to provide more end game content.

The campaign begins on Earth and as you progress through you unlock each new area until all 4 are opened up. On each area you can access the available activities whether that be individual campaign missions - something you have to do when playing through the campaign as it doesn't play through automatically, Strikes - 3 player co-op missions, Raid - 6 player co-op mission or Patrol - free roam mode. Each activity begins in a 'public' area that can be occupied by other players and you are free to go pretty much anywhere in the area - even on a mission or strike - so you can get involved in Public Events, go hunting for resources/loot or just go straight to the objective.

Strikes are the co-op part of the game and require a fireteam of 3 so if you don't have 2 others, the game will matchmake for you. These follow the same sort of pattern as the campaign mission with an end boss to beat. Raids are the pinnacle of this and by far the best content in the PvE area of the game. They are a 6 player co-op mode that requires communication and co-ordination. As such there is no matchmaking so require you to find people - either friends or people you meet playing Destiny (there are websites available too to find players) so you can find people that will compliment your fireteam and speak the same language.

Things like the Raid are part of the end-game content and for me the best part of Destiny.

Destiny also has a PvP mode with the usual team deathmatch mode but also a few other modes. Its not as varied as something like CoD but it's certainly fun. Other games have very separate areas - Campaign is very separate to co-op which is also separate from MP, but Destiny tries to tie all these together. Your 'Gaurdian' does everything and earns XP in all areas. Weapons and Armour acquired in PvP can be used in PvE and vice versa. In other FPS games, once you beat the campaign, there is little reason to return unless achievement hunting but in Destiny you can and probably will end up playing the missions a lot for bounties or Daily mission rewards.

In terms of the game mechanics, everything feels solid I can't fault it on this. It does everything you expect from a FPS and does it well. Some enemies are a bit of a bullet sponge - namely the bosses - but the array of weaponry and supers feel great to use. Visually this game is stunning too. Venus in particular looks incredible. There are similarities in enemy behaviour to those seen in Halo which isn't a bad thing as they used cover, jumped out of the way of grenades or swarmed at you.

There is so much to do daily - with bounties - both PvP and PvE, missions etc as well as weekly too. Lots of weapons and armour to collect and upgrade that it can keep you playing for many many hours. In terms of value (cost per hour) it could be one of the best buys you make and for that reason alone it earns extra marks. Like I said if you are expecting Halo 2.0 and a traditional Campaign and story then you will be disappointed but Destiny has tried to be 'different'. Its certainly much better with friends but there is still fun to be had Solo.

Once you're done the story, you are faced with crushing repetition, and only the collection of stuff to keep playing for. Again, no story to drive you to keep playing, just endless loot collecting (98% of which you simply throw away because it's inferior). The soundtrack is fairly weak and the visuals are good, but not blow your mind next gen great.
The multiplayer seems to be unable to consistently pair you with players of similar skill. Have one match even, next match you get creamed, creamed again, destroy everyone, destroy everyone, balanced, creamed, creamed, destroy. There seams to be no logic to how PvP stacks players and no logic to weapon balance either.
Then I see that I have logged over 300 hours and realize that something about this game keeps you there. Something about being a Guardian patrolling an unstable buffer zone between Earth and it's enemies keeps you coming back. The action and enemies are so well crafted that you just enjoy shooting the same thing over and over. You enjoy running around the same maps over and over, kicking ass. Even writing this it looks insane to think that I just kept playing. I believe I have finally broken free from this madness, but for my dollars to hours ratio on this one, I have to give it at least an 8.

A great, smooth shooter with endless storyless hours of gameplay. Addictive personalities beware, this game will own you.

Some of the worst design decisions in history, mainly the one where you can't even choose if you want to play a strike mission from the start, the game just slaps you into an existing game without anything you can do about it except quit and try again, and again, and again, even if it is the first time you play that mission so you miss all of the mission and the story, it can literary kick you into the game just as it ends. It is probably the most stupid thing I have ever seen in a game.

Did I mention the game is forced online? If your connection goes down even if playing solo the game stops. The developers did not even care to keep the site up where you gather your lore so that part of the game is broken just so you know.

    Also, microtransactions and loot boxes.

I bought the "Destiny: Digital Guardian Edition" (which was around $80 or $90 back then) thinking that Bungie (the creators of Halo) could not mess this up, but they did.

So, I hopped on Destiny to play the campaign on day one, since my friends didn't invite me the first time of go, I went on the Destiny subreddit and found a cool/chill guy to beat the campaign. We played about 3 - 4 hours a day for 3 or 4 days maybe 5 (I don't know) straight, just the two of us. Once we completed the campaign we said, "WTF, thats it?," "All we got was a GUN?!?." All to be told, you get a gun that becomes useless when you level up in the future. The only great thing about the campaign was Peter Dinklage, but then he was replaced by Nolan North.

Let's face it, a company that's known for having great music, great online experience and a great storyline. How could they mess up the game?Overall, the storyline sucked (I mean it really sucked, they didn't explain nothing), missions are highly repetitive, online pvp is not balanced, people only use overpowered weapons in online and it just didn't feel good to play.

For most, those types of people have played/put 100+ hours into Destiny and they love the game. They love the reward system, they love the gear grind and they love farming. But I couldn't bare with it anymore, it felt boring and I felt like most of the problem was Activision controlling Bungie to release this game with less content so they can turn it into DLC. It could have been a great game but the game wasn't there for me at all. It failed the game industry.

In the end, Destiny is a horrible highly repetitive non-open world console mmo and I will not be buying Destiny 2 when it comes out.

The gunplay is well done, but brings nothing new to the table and feels like a large step backwards compared to other current titles.

The MMO aspects are very poorly implemented - each class plays identically save one or two tricks (which make PvP a disaster). Gaining new gear does not change your character in any meaningful way other than a flat % damage increase. Interactions between players in PvE is all but non-existent; the only meaningful action between players is reviving one another after death.

There are truly only 9 weapons in the game, but their stats are randomized so that only a few are worth using. Jetpacks are incredibly clunky, vehicles are not fun to use or fun to play against.

Destiny's PvP is one of the worst experiences of any shooter in the past 5-10 years. If Halo and Call of Duty were combined, and all of the good parts taken away, the result would look just like Destiny. Yet PvP is essentially required to obtain the best gear because of the broken loot system.

Leveling up past 20 is only done by obtaining gear, which is either totally random or a 30+ hour grind to obtain reputation.

In summation, Bungie took all of the negative feedback that was given for Halo: Reach, and shoved it right down the players' asses, making a game that the majority of players will not enjoy.

There is none seeing other people in your campaign only means you're missing out because they have more then likely killed everything and you can just walk on by. i have never seen more than 6 people in one area of the game excluding the tower. you get disconnected from the game because of random error messages like rabbit, monkey, cat. Its hard to contact bugie and get a reply. You have to collect stuff to upgrade and obviously you have to compete with other players. I can't think of one advantage being always online gives.

The tower is the most pointless annoying place. you will travel here after most missions to hand in a piece of crap and get more crap which wouldn't bother me so much but the loading screen to get there is about 1-2min. i can go for a piss and get a drink and will still have time to watch me fly the stupid spaceship in. so i can spend 30 seconds running to a place and holding x.

    Story: No spoilers here ;)
There isn't much but if you have played games before you will know how the game ends before the second mission. The campaign will take you to similar or the same location several times and if you don't do the bounties you will also have to repeat mission or play multiplayer.

    Gameplay:
The gameplay is the same as borderlands except not as varied. you have two forms of superpower which you can switch between but have to level up independently. You will find that certain certain set ups are better than any other and changing them would be silly. The balancing between classes is horrible. The titan has a slam attack which puts you in melee range and if you don't kill them they will quite quickly kill you, all the bosses have instant kill melee attacks so you can't use it on them. so you resort to slowly chipping away at his health from a spot where he can't hit you very well and thats that.

    Enemies:
There are two types of enemies ones with arms and legs and ones which float. They all act the same, feel the same just look different. The bosses are just big versions of the smaller ones There isn't a single unique boss which has different levels to him. They just repeat the same attack or movement again. again. agian.

    Multiplayer:
I really don't want to talk about the multiplayer because it is the most unbalanced multiplayer game. When you complete the raid you get the vex mythocast best weapon in the game can out trade anyone in multiplayer easily. The same applies to a few other weapons like the ice breaker, suros regime and the vanquisher 3 i believe . They have nerfed some to bring a little balance but even then the class system is just wrong. oh and your super powers recharge due points and time not kills. secondary weapons are op. getting ammo for the is easily or you can find one which recharge ammo.

    Warlock:
superpower has a self revive, instant kill melee, and infinite grenades and over shield.
    or
an instant kill range area of effect bomb thing.

    Hunter:
the golden gun from 007 with 3 shots or 4.
    or
a melee state which grants an overshield, damage resistance, instant kill melee, homing attacks, instant lock on. on kill health recharge or invisibility or dash.

    Titan:
A smash the floor which goes through walls similar area effect to the range warlock ability.
    or
a bubble shield from halo which can be destroyed by the warlock and hunter powers and everyone in it.
can be useful in certain situations.

obviously only high levels can get the best super powers and weapons but the game will match level 30's with level 6's.

    sound:
some of the worst game sound i have heard from AAA games in a while. Theres probably about 5 songs in the game. all the guns sound similar and they start to grind. you will inevitably turn the sound down.
The voice acting is okay but what they are saying s horrible just a random assortment of cliches.

    Conclusion:
The game is repetitive simple and buggy due to being connected to the internet 24/7. Long loading screens, unbalanced multiplayer which once you have the right set up becomes easy. The worst part is that i haven't even talked about the super floaty homing grenade which can chase you though walls. I wouldn't recommend this game to a friend.

With Destiny 2 around the corner I thought I’d give the original Destiny a try to see what all of the fuss is about...
And apparently it’s the expansions because it’s not here in the base game...
And with activision shutting down multiplayer modes for those expansions the month this review comes out I’m not going to even bother them...
So while I’m sure Destiny is now this great experience with all its ad ons...
I’m going to just talk about the base game which is a repetitive and boring joke…
Destiny is a competitive and cooperative online only first person shooter where you play as 1 of 3 classes and create your own character
As an aggressive player I played as a titan..
There are 2 bases in this game that you turn in your quest progress 2, get new missions, fork out your real life cash for any weapons that are worth anything from loot boxes and get back to the grind of being a guardian…
    This game is co op...
But through my entire 9 hour journey in story mode I only had team mates in one mission…
The story mode is practically dead…
So you’re going to have to grind through this excuse of a story mode yourself…
Worse is that all 9 hours take place on the same 4 maps…
the missions just take your deeper into these maps each time..
There are some loot boxes here that are like playing a game of where waldo to find them...
so I just stuck to getting my loot from missions and enemy drops…
Leveling up in this game gives you upgrades for your grenades and suit
though the game doesn’t seem to balance in terms of xp if you are playing alone so late game missions are extremely frustrating..
I was playing through the final story mission at only level 14 because of how slow the game was handing levels out because it assumes I’m going to grind through boring story missions over and over or that I’m playing with other people…
I felt like I had to keep playing in these annoying no respawn zones over and over that would reset every time I died…
But these missions are all the same thing of bring up your ghost, go to a point on the map and shoot all of the stuff until there’s no more stuff to shoot rinse and repeat..
There is a competitive team based mode of 6vs6 like call of duty which is the best part of Destiny as a base game...
Here level advantages are taken away, but you’ll level up way faster than the story mode, you’ll get loot drops, and you’ll have way more fun doing it…
IF you were thinking about giving destiny a try before destiny 2 comes out there’s absolutely no reason to
there’s nothing here worth your time
    Give Destiny

Game play of Halo, with a hint of RPG elements. That is all. Story was bland. Wish that there was towns or other cities that you can visit. What kind of MMO is this? The only good thing about is when you play with your friends. Besides that. It's just a grind.

This game should have no flaws due to the fact that, it was made by Bungie and published by Activision. These industries have been rivals for years with Halo made by Bungie and Call of Duty made by Activision. Destiny is supposed to take the best of both Call of Duty and Halo and combine them to make a superior game, after all, two heads are better than one. As promised, the two companies delivered the game of the year. Because of its better graphic mechanics, the combination of Activision and Bungie, and the addictiveness of the campaign and multiplayer game play, Destiny is easily described as the best of the century.
Graphics have come a long way from Atari to Pacman to Fifa. Good graphics are a necessity now for a player to even consider a game. The motion picture provided by Destiny is absolutely stunning. The graphics provided are very smooth and flow together perfectly. Fighting aliens in mesmerizing quality is one of the best features this game has to offer. The display is jaw dropping from the moment you hit the start button. The game is so realistic that players can see the wind catch their cloak as they walk. Never has a game brought so much attention to detail like Destiny; for example, there is a mission where you have to fight aliens on the moon, and you are walking through craters as moon dust flies in your face. In the mission, you are avoiding aliens around every corner. Another example is watching bullets fly by your head as you are fighting a giant metal flying sphere. Destiny has brought what we expected to the table in 2014.
Outstanding graphics are not the only reason this game is great, but another factor is how these industries learned how to cooperate. In doing so, they created a much larger fan base for this game. Who would have thought that the two biggest rivals in video game history could combine to make such a brilliant game? They finally realized instead of having a huge rivalry they could conjoin the greatest aspects of Halo and Call of Duty. Activision, the creators of Call of Duty, brought in the fast-paced, action-packed multiplayer mode. They also brought in the variety of guns and equipment usage that would aid the player. Bungie, the creator of Halo, added their addictive story mode to the mix. Furthermore, they also added the Science Fiction to the game, which enabled them to recreate some of the weapons from Halo. With the new found friendship between these two companies, they added a new game engine and the most innovative experiences ever delivered. As said by IGN, “Destiny features the largest collection of weapons in a Bungie game to date, coming in both a variety of categories and featuring unique customization options for each one.” This means they incorporated a broader arsenal base, which allows players to either remain stealthy or shoot everything in sight. Instead of clashing heads for another year, Bungie and Activision finally shared the same dream which benefits them both and the fans.
Finally, the set up and the storyline of the game will leave you begging for more. With constant achievements, rewards, and unlockable content, this game keeps players guessing and demanding more. Also, the mechanics of multiplayer are crisp and engaging. Destiny’s multiplayer has a broad range of complex game modes that will have you six inches from your television. With the occasional downloadable content, the game will hardly be turned off, nor will the controller ever leave your thumb when playing multiplayer. As said by Game Informer, “Solo play is an ideal choice for players looking for a challenge.” This means the story mode of Destiny is really challenging and will leave players repeating the same missions multiple times, proving just how addicting it really is. Furthermore, the use of different weapons allows for a more strategic approach and will keep the player guessing during the campaign, which is always good because no one likes a predictable video game.
All in all, the game of Destiny will leave gamers in shock and awe. Destiny has the quality to be a great first-person shooter. Not only are the graphics one of a kind, but the collaboration of Activision and Bungie and the campaign and multiplayer leave players craving more. Those are only a few of the reasons why Destiny will earn its respect and reputation. Destiny meets and exceeds all expectations of a game worth buying.

Sadly Destiny suffers for a identity crisis. I feel like it tries to be too many things at once. The game isn't exactly what Bungie promised, and at the same time it feels like its missing a lot.

People have either loved or hated this game, and for me its a bit of a love/hate relationship. They do so many things right, but other things drive me crazy.

First off Ive played Boarderlands 2, Diablo and World of Warcraft, so playing a grid game isnt the problem, at least for me. For me is the randomness of the loot. You'll get into a weekly nightfall raid with two of your buddies, you will get the highest amount of kills, the most revives and the fewest deaths, but will that matter? Nope. The person with the lowest kills and most deaths will get 2 exotics and you will be left with a worthless uncommon or rare. The same goes for PVP. Someone will just join or be afk the whole game and they will be rewarded while you who got the most points or captures will be "punished" by getting nothing out of the game besides the 2-3 marks.

Level up past 20 is a headache. It is all luck based. Once again this is a grind game, and playing Diablo 3 I know all about luck. You'll get some item and you hope its what you want but its completely itemized incorrectly for what you want. In Destiny you level up by XP until you reach level 20. At 20 you do not get any more XP and now you level up by getting a stat called Light which can now be found on gear (weapons do not give light level). This basically means if you get unlucky you may never get the gear you need to level up. You can do bounties and PVP to get marks to get the gear you want, but this obviously takes time when people can luck out and get legendary and exotic gear and get level 28 in a single week (you need raid gear past 28 to progress to level 30). This can leave you stuck at lower levels when your friends are out doing the weekly nightfall or raids. This has since been fixed but I will mention it anyways, even if you were to get a legendary engram, it may decode to a RARE or UNCOMMON. These are hard enough to find as it is but this makes it impossible to get it to decode to something you can actually use. My Hunter's first legendary engram turned into gloves for a Titan. This has since been fixed but it was still originally in the game.

Another thing they did wrong is no match making for PVE. If you want to do the weekly heroic strike or weekly nightfall, you sure better know 2 friends who are about the same level as you (28ish), have it for the correct system and is on at the same time. If not you aren't doing the strike this week. How is there no match making in a game that REQUIRES a group? The raid falls in this same category. You need 6 people at the same time, but there's no match making. Why??

PVP i find fun and frustrating at the same time. First off the game type rotation is annoying, you are only allowed to play cretin game types during cretin times during the week, even though will sometimes get bounties for that game type during a day when its not available. There is no type of MMR (Match Making Rating) so you'll get paired up with all types of skill levels of players with a variety of different levels and different gear. You can be level 5 and get paired up with the Vex super weapon that basically 2 shots players. You may even be brand new to this game and thing to yourself it takes a whole clip to kill someone, but only 2 shots for him? I feel weapons are unbalanced for PVP, everyone starting with a shotgun that can one shot you or a fusion rifle or a rocket and sniper. In previous games like Halo these were a single spawn point and you had to contest with other players to get a hold of it. Here everyone has a gun that can one shot you.

Every game type is basically the same. You have Clash, Clash with the ability to capture points, and Clash with vehicles. There is absolutely no variety, and the only one that seems even relatively even close to what the pace should be is control, but even that seems to be frustrating depending on the map. Every map rewards camping and it seems like they all have choke points where you'll just run though a tight doorway or opening and either get sniped from someone across the map or a shotgun right in the back.

Also in PVP/PVE there is no communication. Why is there no communication? Because they disabled voice chat when not in groups. Why? This is what they call a "competitive shooter" so why is there no voice chat?

Overall I have enjoyed the game, hence the 8/10. I got a free copy with my Xbox One and then traded it in for a limited edition, which proves I liked it, but there is a lot of things wrong with the game as it stands now. They claim its going to be 10 year game, but they have a long ways to go if they thing it will outlive Halo and other FPS games as it stands

I really wanted to like DESTINY when it came out, and I do. I still play it ever chance I get. The repetitive nature of it all gets old very quickly, yet I keep coming back. The story leaves something to be desired, with missions ending with nothing really being answered which inevitably leads you on to the next mission which, low and behold, follows the same patterns as the previous one.I really wanted to like DESTINY when it came out, and I do. The strikes are a lot of fun, especially when you up the difficulty. It forces you to create new strategies instead of blowing through it all. Do they get repetitive? Most definitely. That's not to say they're still not fun.

Do I love Destiny? No, but I really like it. Will it hold up against new games that are coming out? Probably not but that's not to say it isn't a fun game. I'd definitely peg this as a "rent before you buy." Feel it out, see if it's for you. It still is for millions of others.

First off, I'd say any review that was done after a couple of hours of playing this game is not going to accurately represent this game. I played this game for about a month and a half before I got tired of it.

What this game suffers most from is from being over-hyped and our own expectations being so high that it would be hard for this game to ever meet them.

With that said, much of the criticism is legit; however, most of the reviews are shallow and give this game a score on either extreme at the absolute extreme. Is the game repetitive? Absolutely. You'll feel this even more when you play alone. This game is meant to be played with friends, and it's definitely more enjoyable when you have someone else in your fire team to chat with.

Is the story lacking? Absolutely, again. In fact, the game goes out of it's way to rub this in your face with lines like "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain". It's like the story was built to make you buy the DLC, like the whole main game you paid $60 for is a teaser for DLCs that are to come later. What will really make you mad, is when you find out that the DLC is already on the game disc or original game download, and the DLC you purchase is nothing more than a digital key to unlock it.

Another criticism you'll hear, is about the game's loot system. It was obnoxiously atrocious and Bungie's response before fixing was even more obnoxious, by blaming the players for not getting or appreciating what they were trying to do with it. They've fixed this, but let me tell tell you how it was. You get as rewards, or random drops, what they call engrams. You take these engrams to this guy called "The Cryptarch" who decrypts them to reveal an item. These engrams dropped as certain colors: white, green, blue, and purple. White was for common gear, and you don't need the cryptarch to decode them; however, he sells them and they can either become common (white) item or uncommon (green) item when you purchase them from him. Green engrams are uncommon, but they have a chance to become blue (rare) items or white (common) items; these too, at some point will become straight item drops that are automatically a green item that doesn't need a cryptarch to decrypt, usually around level 14 you'll start seeing that not all green engrams need the cryptarch. Now you have blue engrams, which were updated with later patches. These had the opportunity to drop green (uncommon), blue (rare), purple (legendary) quality items or crafting materials or some sort of special currency to use at special vendors. After a patch, they removed the opportunity to become green items and increased the likelihood of obtaining a legendary (although the odds are still extremely slim). Those dropped relatively rarely. Now the legendary engrams, which hardly ever drop and this is what got everyone so mad early on, would have the chance to becoming a green (uncommon), blue (rare), purple (legendary), yellow (exotic), crafting materials, or special currency. What had everyone complaining was that these items would become blue items or worse 80% of the time. After the patch, they removed the chances of them producing green or blue items. The loot system was terrible at launch, and it seemed the only way to get legendary or better equipment was to grind for special currency and buy them from the various vendors. Activities rarely provided any loot back then. That's all been fixed in patches though. The main problem with loot is nothing really looks all that different, and there isn't much variety to the weapons. Legendary weapons don't feel that legendary either; and the exotics (the actual legendaries of this game) are only slightly better with a unique ability. You also can only have one exotic weapon and armor piece equipped at anytime; which is lame, because they aren't that much better than other types of gear.

Another criticism maybe with the leveling, or light system. I agree, it's lame. It makes being able to do raids, some strikes, weekly or daily challenges completely gear dependent. The ideal level in this game is level 28 (Hit the level cap of 20 and have an extra 8 levels of light to equal level 28). You need gear with light on it, and you need to upgrade said gear to get it that high. If you want to continue playing in the Crucible (PvP), it won't concern you that much; but if you want to do raids and get the best gear in the game, you need to grind crafting materials and legendary armor gear to get to the appropriate level.

What is amazing in this game, is the gameplay and the graphics. It plays extremely smooth. The foundation is there, but Bungie may have done too much to alienate much of the fans. Once Call of Duty came out, most players have left. This game still has huge potential, but they need to fix their missteps in order for this game to reach both the hype and our expectations

Very playable and can be very exciting at times, but it's too often that it's broken up by long boring missions that you've done many times over. Most events in the campaign will involve guarding something from a 'horde mode' style attack. The biggest let downs are: 1) for a game to brag about customization only to require you to use the greatest/strongest armor doesn't count as customization. Yes, you can pick what COLOR you are, but as far as what armor you are wearing you must wear the best if you with to progress. 2) The story is unfinished... Yes, if you bought this for the campaign alone then prepare for an unfinished story UNLESS you fork out $15 for every bit of DLC thats planned for the next several years 3) No exploitation in the time there actually is story. Who are these guys? Why am I killing them? What do they want? You don't know, and you'll be left not knowing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where to start with Destiny.

My only good point to start, The gameplay of Destiny could not be better, it just flows well.

The story or rather lack thereof. The trailers tell a completely different story than what you actually play, characters are not memorable, the are just there. You do not feel immersed in the game. Not a single thing is explained, You are brought back to life by the ghost not sure why or how but your character just goes with it and begins shooting at an alien race because the floating light said so. Why is your character so important they were brought back from the dead, who are they. How could Humanity loose if people can be brought back to life? What is the traveler exactly, Humanity would have done research into it's origins but it is just white orb in sky over city. The final "boss" missions is not remotely climatic. A black blob floating brings some statues backs to life that are just giant versions of Vex from past present and future you see them in the VOG. Gotta love reskins of enemies. Destiny raises more questions than it answers the ones people already have.Bungie lied about Destiny being "huge" I have played the strike missions so many times because there is about 5. Which are the main missions players after level 20 will play via the strike playlist. I have not played Destiny for about 2 months the next "DLC" oh boy cannot wait for 1 strike mission (2 for PS4) and 3 story missions and one more raid.

You can get Destiny but make sure your friends have it so you can actually have a good fireteam and enjoy it a little more. Biggest let down of 2014.

In short - so much promise and so little delivery. Fun to play in term of controlling character but the lacking story line, repeating missions quickly get tired on solo, but are occasionally fun with friends. Did the whole story and levelled up to 27. Sigh...starts off well but then falls apart as if the heart has been ripped out making what should be an epic game only average.

    - I am not a fan of how the story is told - i dislike how the ghost has all the dialogue and my character is a complete mute. The focus of the story seems to be focused on the ghost rather than my character's involvement and progression thorough the story.
    - Lack of ingame communication (what's the point of a chat box?!)

Destiny is a mix of first-person shooter and action rpg that requires a permanent connection to play, yet it's filled with connectivity issues that keep you from playing it.

I will admit that Destiny is an enjoyable first person shooter game, however I am disappointed in the lack of engaging content in the story campaign. If I am paying over $50 for a game I would like to have an engaging story. Instead I am given a teaser and have to put money down for expansions to continue the story which was surface level amusement to begin with. It's very light on content, it could/should be so much better yet I'm still playing it and enjoying it, especially with friends.

It gets some things so right, shame it couldn't get the rest right.

This game is not an RPG (Wait, yes it is, because you can dance!). The story is a gimmick, the missions are repetitive, you can't talk to other players, and nothing seems significant. Also you have to UNLOCK MULTIPLAYER. I'm not sure why this is a thing.

Once you actually start playing multiplayer, you soon realize that the game is horribly unbalanced. You then logically ask yourself, "How can I gain an edge? Oh I know! I'll just grind for better gear!" So then you begin grinding through all the missions and raids in an epic quest to restore balance to the multiplayer. You then unlock some special auto rifle that promises you instant success in multiplayer. You then go into a multiplayer match with your shiny new gun, then BANG! You get killed by an ability power. This is the point where you realize the game will never be balanced, and that you only bought this game because you gave into the hype.

This was the biggest gaming disappointment of 2014. This game has absolutely no character, no great moments. You run somewhere, hold X shoot things that come at you. THAT IS THE WHOLE PVE/CAMPAIGN GAME. PVP is actually a lot of fun, sadly. Too bad the maps are too few. The game was nowhere near finished and the budget at 500,000,000 is nowhere seen. This would be a good rent.

It feels like there is an amazing story and its been chopped up to be sold later for more money. You feel like there could be something amazing in this but it never comes and then you finish all the content. Maybe after a full year of DLC the game will actually feel like a full games worth of story.

    MMO Aspect- 3/10
You go to a city or a planet and you see others around you but there is not a good way to be able to communicate with them. Really besides the seeing them they don't feel like they do anything. Doing strikes in match making you get 1 out of 20 that have anyone talking.

    Re playability PvE - 7/10
While playing the story line you will most likely do everything you can do without forming a group. If you want to do raids you need a preformed group and that's a problem because communicating with others is difficult. There is potential for things to get better with future expansions and more content.

    PvP - 10/10
PvP is fun and the game mechanics give it a variety without feeling to be to much. There is a wide variety of weapons and looks and even player builds allowing things to be complex without being overdone. The PvP in this game alone is worth the cost.

Initially this game is ok but you can just feel how much potential it has. I really see this game going places if they keep expanding upon it.

Overall- 7/10 pushed over by the feel of potential.

The graphics are also amazing, even on your not-great last gen consoles. The world is very interesting and sucks you in. There are a lot more things Destiny does wrong though. First off, the mission areas and objectives are repetitive as hell, and Its hard to feel excited when you're going back to the exact same area for another boring objective. Another thing that Destiny does wrong is that the story is vague and underwhelming, the bosses are bullet sponges. Yet another thing that really ruins Destiny is the RNG loot system. So pretty much, in a Strike or Raid, all of the good loot is not given out according to skill, but according to a random number generator. That severely damages your experience with Destiny. The PvP is fun, but only because it's the same as Halo's multiplayer. And saying: "there will be DLC to explain the story" is absolutely no excuse to shove an underwhelming and uninteresting story in our faces. Only buy Destiny If you are a hardcore Halo or Bungie fan, and even then, you can just get the Halo MCC, or wait for Halo 5 to come out. Expand

It takes a long time before this game starts feeling stale. Great graphics, mechanics and variety between characters, weapons etc. The raids (particularly VoG) make it really stand out. The things that could be improved are better matching system, less grind and dependency on randomness is rewards and a better story line.

Great game in theory, mediocre game in execution. Really the biggest failing point of this game is content. For Destiny, Bungee has taken Halo's ingenious play every level forwards and backwards method for game length and applied it to a mixed FPS/MMO. This makes for an interesting 5 to 10 hours of game play that quickly turns boring and stagnated.
Spend your money else where. For example

Destiny is one of those: "pay to win" games that is spearheaded by microtransactions, and dlc up the arse. The game doesn't flow, they tried the MMO thing thing with the town type experience but it just doesn't match with the rest of the game. The immersion just dies for me after ever mission.

To steal these famous words from Blizzard...they didn't find the fun.

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.
