Wonderful game. I've had tons of fun playing it over the past two weeks and I can't wait for bungie to release more content in the future. I'll be playing this game for a very long time.

This game does not have the story that MMORPGs have, but it has very little RPG elements. However this game has something that WoW and other MMOs don't have, it is fun to play whether you are in a guild or not. You can play this game buy yourself and still have fun, then you could jump into a party and have a blast.

Played for about 15hours and I'm extremely disappointed. This game was hyped up so much but it missed the mark completely. I have no idea how people are giving this game 10/10, it is not a perfect game! The missions are repetitive, go here and the ghost can scan something then a boss, done. Every mission is the same. It's a really good game the only downside is that the story isn't that great but it has great shooting mechanics and a great mmo style feel to it its one of my favourite games this year so far

Player movement whether it is on the ground or in a vehicle moves you through the world in a fun and interesting way. With no shortage of bad guys in the campaign and there always being new ways to challenge yourself with higher ranked enemies - it takes missions that were too easy in normal mode and painstakingly difficult on harder settings.

Customization in Destiny is also a huge feature that makes me love it even more. I'm always searching for something better than what I have even when what I have is rockstar armor and surgical weaponry. The options for upgrading, increasing proficiency, and adding on with perks to the weapons keeps each new gun fresh and fun while I continue to search for something even better.

Art wise, the game is beautiful! The worlds are beautifully filled with unique buildings, landscapes, and creatures. The animations are smooth, the lighting is gorgeous, and every pixel is like a painting of a masterpiece.

Bungie has made another great game that I look forward to playing for years to come!

So graphics are amazing. Everything is pretty.

    Co-op intensive

It's hard to find story games that are co op intensive and fun to play.

    Different

Finally an actually new IP that isn't the same crap repeated before.

    Cons:

    Gameplay

Omg this was bad. Missions are the same. Every single dam time. Protect ghost here, fetch this, kill a bunch of these. Out of the 25ish missions there's only 4 real variations. The bosses are boring as hell. For some reason they have a god amount of HP and you stand there shooting them for 20 to 30 minutes. That's not fun gameplay for bosses. Each time I was crouched between objects so they couldn't hit me and I just shot them.

    Co-op intensive

So you can't solo this game and win. And if you don't have a set group of three friends your likely to find yourself finding random strangers and adding them to your fireteam. And I did this....until the third time I got matched with a teen that would go die in front of bosses and think its awesome...and a redneck that liked to be racist. Wasting 3 hours of my time trying to beat a boss they were underlevel for. So it's a crapshoot finding good people to play with, having them be on when your on, and them being actually skilled.

Aspects of different games rolled into one

They tried to steal from borderlands...but with no humor and no fun killing enemies so it just goes wrong. They tried to steal from MMOs...but with anti social measures in place. (PSA on reddit on making your fireteam public) They tried to steal this story from somewhere...but its just so bad there isn't one. We will tell you everything you want to know...but then we won't and call it childs fairy tale. But DLC will come and explain it all.

So is it bad game....YES. You can't just throw a bunch of money at this game, steal from every other good game out there, and expect to make a good product. There's more I want to rant about. (Maps are a joke, competitive play is kinda fun, THE LOADING TIMES...what the actual F***. This is a next gen game and you have to wait incredibly long to start a mission. And god forbid you misclick and go somewhere you didn't want to....

Why are some people finding this good? Certain MMO aspects are fun...grinding for loot, getting currency, getting the best weapons. But what most console players will not have experienced is the reality of the end game. As in the reason they put caps on currency is so you have to keep playing. Or all your gear will go to crap once the new DLC comes out. And that currency will be useless.

I really wanted to fall in love with this game. But unless you have 3 friends to always play when your on, don't mind the reality of end game, and don't care about gameplay...you should be fine? I sold my copy for 50 bucks to some Mom on CL.

I gave Destiny a 6 because of the repetitive and boring campaign! This campaign is incredibly boring, there are few cut scenes and there isn't enough detail or story details to explain anything about your character or the earth or the universe. Along with that the campaign missions are overrated to the hype this game got earlier this year. If your a campaign gamer don't buy this game. I gave this game a 6 because of almost everything else I love playing crucible I just can't stop playing it. I'm level 26 and I love it. Crucible for me is a lot like Halo you can strafe for kills and melee is similar to halo but it feels more like an mmo as in the classes each play a different role and I find that amazing. The smooth interface of the game also impresses me it feels just easy to use and simple. Its a shame this game isn't a 10 because the campaign is extremely dull and lacking excitement or even a story but crucible for makes up for that and at least pulls a 6/10. $60 is to much for this game especially without and DLC. One way to get loot is to shoot identical aliens that walk out of a cave hoping they'll drop good loot. The multiplayer consists of shotguns and fusion riffles along with the occasional heavy ammo and super kills. Everyone says if you buy the DLCs the game will get better I have no reason to believe that any more than them saying the game was good. On the plus side the graphics are really good. Claiming there are hundreds or thousands of guns in the game is retarded there are about 10 Different types of weapons such as (Hand Cannon, Fusion Riffle, Shotgun, Sniper, Rocket Launcher, Pulse Riffle, Auto Riffle, LMG, and Semi Auto Riffle) within these groups there are guns that look almost exactly the same but have a different power and class. Their claims of having a space adventure is a loading screen in which your ship bobs up and down beside others. One of my favorite things to do in this game was the speeders, and classes. Is it worth $60? No it worth about $30. I hope this helped you out... Expand

I have had a lot of fun with this game. In fact, it's probably one of the best games I've played in a while. However I feel the game is missing many features, and I think they were in a hurry to release it. I definitely believe that Destiny could meet expectations over the next year or so, provided Bungie supply us with free updates. It's definitely worth a buy, as there is a lot of replay value.

This is not the case for the entire game, but instead a way to familiarize the player with controls (which are silky smooth), set the tone for the story (yes, there is a story here), and guide you through the inventory/leveling system. In short, the first two levels are (IMO) a tutorial for players. The game is far from perfect however, the loads times are way too long, the character creation is very limited, the character leveling is linear and doesn't really feel like it makes much difference in gun battles and overall the game just feels like its missing something. Its definitely not a Halo killer and honestly it will be forgotten when the next Call of Duty arrives. The game is not bad, its just not exceptional and it was grossly overrated. But its fun and I've enjoyed it, and I would recommend it. Just be aware THIS IS NOT AN MMO.

This game is aggravating due to the fact that some exotic bounties REQUIRE people to play crucible. I don’t think it is fair to make people have to do something they don’t want to do. Many people including myself don’t want to play crucible at all. There should be a choice of PvP only and PvE only routes for exotic bounties. Of course they didn’t think to implement this; I bet most of the developers received their degrees from Full Scam University. That is why we buyers were scammed. Expand

Graphics and Sound: The graphics look great and the soundtracks are not only truly interesting to listen to but also memorable as well. A true testament to the work of so many talented artists together as far as tracks go.

Playability and Entertainment: The controls handle excellently and makeup for some less than savory moments during the game. The story is pretty basic but nonetheless an entertaining adventure, and the same can be said about the game as a whole. It merges most of the right elements between MMO and shooter and RPG genres.

    Replay Value: High.

The mechanics and environment are fantastic for this game. It really shows where Bungie shines in game design. But that's about all it has going for it, the story is shallow and leaves you saying "That's it? I've finished the on disk story?" Then add the fact you can get to the "soft cap" level of 20 in a matter of 3 hours is throwing salt in the wounds. Oh, then Bungie says that the true game starts after level 20, by that they mean grinding and grinding for rare and exotic loot to help you get past level 20. Meanwhile if you try to play crucible it's completely unbalanced by the fact that while it has a disclaimer saying level advantages are disabled, they really aren't because in the Rumble playlist you will see the level 27 out do the level 12 any day with just better armor and guns. I could keep going on and on for this game, but I really don't have the spirit to. So please just take a word from a person who loved Bungie when they made Halo, and wait for this to be around $25 to $35 because that's what it's really worth. To me at least. Expand

I can't say this is a perfect game. I have to say it does not live up to the hype in the way I imagined. I imagined an extremely deep and developed storyline with endless varieties of guns/armor/abilities. The beginnings of what I thought would be present are there, but it is not complete - there is a successful platform to build.

    Pros:
    - Controls, if you like FPS' this game is so smooth it has me drooling every time I pull the trigger.
    - Graphics, great views that make you stop to look and take it all in
    - A great menu system, this game makes it easy to play with friends and navigate the entirety of the game.
    - Multiplayer, even with a ton of abilities and skills, Bungie found a way to make it work.
    - Loot that is rare and powerful, it gives MMO players great rewards for their efforts.
    - The expansiveness of the universe, there are so many places to go and things to do.

    Cons
    - Depth. Currently, this single word is the one that keeps this game from being a 9 or 10.
*We have come to expect more as far as storytelling/character development goes from Bungie.
*There could be a bigger variety of weapon models, there are 1000s of varieties but they all use the same base model design. Armor is pretty good as it stands so far.

With all this being said, I also have a feeling that Bungie, being the sly dogs they are, have a couple things up their sleeve and this is only the beginning of things to come. My review will update accordingly.

I am really struggling to understand some of the negative reviews for Destiny. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but giving Destiny a zero is not credible in my view. It leads me to suspect that the writers of such reviews are either working for the competition or their just being objectionable.

I've read lots of reviews; official critics and users who have said that Destiny is trying to be all things and mastering none. This could be true, but it depends what you want. The question in my view is "do you enjoy playing it?". If you do, does it matter what it's trying to be?

Ok so there are games that have deeper RPG elements - if you want the depth, play Diablo. From what I've seen so far there are lots of weapons & ability upgrades, with gradual enough increments to make it fun; without needing an encyclopedia.

No story? I'm not a fan of cut scenes, so the minimal story is fine with me - I enjoy running around the beautiful landscapes and shooting things; in this respect Destiny ticks the boxes. The shooting element, which is actual the point of the game is fantastic.

I'm a massive fan of Battlefield and in my view it is hard to beat for multiplayer - but battlefield's 32 v 32 matches are chaos 99% of the time and unfortunately in my experience the cooperative / team element of battlefield is not fully exploited by players. Very few player use the mic and the vast majority play the game as loners. Even so great game. Destiny is a different thing and not trying to compete.

The co-op missions in Destiny are the highlight - you really feel like you're working as a team even with no verbal communication; it's very natural and feels better than Battlefield in my view.

We can get picky about the details if we want; talking about weapons balance etc....boring...There plenty of weapons from high rate of fire kill everyone in the room types to precision weapons, to all kinds of specials....so pick the weapons you enjoy playing with and have fun and don't complain about this weapon being over power or that one taking too long to reload.

The only area that is negative in my view is the AI; for the most part the enemies appear in exactly the same places and aren't particular clever. Yes they hide behind cover when your are hitting them from range, but they don't stay there and pop out now and again so you can shoot them in the head; when realistically you'd just stay behind the cover and wait for the enemy to come to you; or try some suppression and diversion to get some bodies in amongst the sniper. Where fights get tough it's because either there are a lot of enemies or/and they have a lot of hit points & fire power; not because they are smart. This is a pity, but Destiny manages to pitch the challenge nicely against your level, so your are in the most part on the edge of your players ability.

Overall great game that will keep you coming back for hours on end.

Overall its a good game with a bland story that's HIGHLY repetitive and short on actual story , if your gonna model it after an MMO there needs to be more story elements that are a bit longer and deeper not a $60 game by any means. It has so much potential cause the physics are good but it just lacking on sooo many levels. It tries to do a bit of everything (Halo , Cod , Mass effect. MMO) and falls flat on all the aspects , and combining the basic aspects of all them doesn't make it that much better, it has always been there more advanced stuff that got the job done in those games.

Here is was a big sign for story problems from the start " Minor spoiler here"...........

After mission 2 you go talk to the speaker , more or less the guy in charge of the good guys and he starts telling you a little story where he literally says something along the lines of well you have been gone for 100s of years so i could tell you the story of what happened and why we are doing this and the back story of how humanity got screwed and stuff.....but im not going to , im just gonna say bad **** is coming . So your thrust into this world with no idea whats going on. I am more then half way threw the story and I have been filled in very little . I got a bunch of missing peaces by going onto bungie.net and reading the grimores (in game pick ups that you can only read on the site), but really how many people are going to do that.

The core mechanics found in the game work really well, the shooting is some of the best on any game to date and is sadly the best part of the game. The graphics are great and suit the game well but this is unimportant if the rest of the game is boring and repetitive which this is.

The game has a variety of planets to visit and they all look stunning and the attention to detail is very impressive, however the areas are very small and are practically empty, you can get from one side of the map to the other in a few minutes and enemies spawn in the exact same place every time you visit the area so there is no element of surprise at all. Every mission is the same, you either go from point A to point B to get your ghost to scan something or you go from point A to point B and get your ghost to scan something then you cover it from enemies for around 5 minutes, this is the entire campaign. The story is a joke, you are told so little about the over arching plot and the games reasoning for you going into another mission is pretty much just for the sake of going into another mission. To do anything in the game such as buy weapons, get bounties or dance with other players (seriously) then you need to go to the tower, this takes way longer than it needs to and you will want to go there after every couple of missions. Another huge mistake with this game is that it is set in space and you cant fly spaceships, all the ships equate to are loading screens, this was a huge missed opportunity.

The online saves the game from complete failure by having a decent selection of maps and game modes to play, but it is also plagued by stupid decisions, their are weapons that kill you in a single hit making every other weapon redundant and there are no level caps at all meaning that if you are under level 10 then there is no point in trying to play online. After this thought the online can be quite fun and is the best way to level up and earn loot, but they also manage to mess this up as well...

When you reach level 20 you stop earning xp, you need to earn light which is found on certain pieces of armour which throws all notions of customisation out the window, rather than wearing armour with the best defence you need to wear armour with the most light just to keep the game going for longer. The loot system in the game is completely broken, after any type of mission all the players can earn loot but this is completely random. You can earn items that are 10 times worse than anything you've got of you can get something that isn't even for your class and you cant give of trade these items to friends you can either keep them for no reason or you can sell them for a small amount of currency. You can earn encrypted items that need to be taken to someone to be deciphered, they are colour coded as either common, rare or legendary, but you can have a legendary colour and get a common piece of equipment which is just completely ridiculous.

This game was completely overhyped and is not worth paying full price for, if you are determined to play this game then wait until it goes down in price by a lot or just borrow it from a friend, believe me they wont miss it.

The combat mechanics are tight and strike a perfect balance between appealing to hardcore shooter fans while remaining accepting and enjoyable for those less familiar with the genre. The game's combat does a very good job of making you feel either invincible and vulnerable.

The story is far from revolutionary, and the standard mission structure of "go here, investigate that, deploy your robot companion and defend it from waves of enemies" does wear thin very quickly. However, the game does retain it's spice by throwing increasingly big bosses at you. Just when you think they couldn't get any bigger, they do.

Destiny as a game prospect is all about the long haul. It features Bungie's trademark "30 seconds of fun" design philosophy, but the game is really all about continually striving to improve you character. If you goal in gaming is to play for 30 minutes and you expect significant gratification every time you do so, Destiny might not be for you. If, on the other hand, you can enjoy the gameplay and gradual journey towards ever-increasing rewards, Destiny will be you go-to game for a long time to come.

I never write reviews but felt I had to for destiny because I see people judging a game they have not even finished or finished and don't even bother to attempt the endgame.

Id like to start with all the **** over repetitive missions. im just gonna throw a few games out here Call of Duty, Battlefield, Borderlands, Diablo 1-3, Grand Theft Auto series, pretty much every game ever made.

Fps games like CoD or BF is the same round after round kill each other and take objective or retrieve bomb or whatever. then we have borderlands which all of its quests are the same as destiny. go retrieve x and bring to y go kill x many or fight in corridors and kill this boss. then we have diablo the king of repetition. so I fail to see why people can love those games (and every other game on the planet) but when destiny does it somehow its wrong? Either people need to take their stupid pills or everyone is losing their minds. I never judge a game by this because when you boil it down every game falls into kill x, retrieve y, fight here go there. Argue this point all you want but you might as well bash every other game that you play.

Second people who don't finish the game or finish the Story missions and quit should not be posting any reviews because honestly you have not played the best part. I finished the story and finished leveling to 20 and did my first heroic story daily mission, and yes it was a random mission from the ones you already played but when I got to that last boss fight it was one of the most hair pulling yelling at tv fights ive had in a long time but it was also the most fun once I finished I realized destiny is going to be amazing. I was a little let down they didn't have more variety in the types of missions granted its more kill x or grab y but wish they had more to cycle through but all that ended once hit level 20 and fought my first heroic daily boss. the fight was really tough but it wasn't because they made the fight overly difficult and they didn't just give the enemies ridiculous health what bungie has done is genious.

Bungie just doesn't up the health and damage like so many games I see. Granted they did both of those but it was minimal compared to other games what they did do was make the enemies more aggressive and threw more of them at you and nothing is more nerve racking then trying to regen health behind cover only to be swarmed from all angles. Bungie made you use all your abilities you have to win and they set it up to keep you on the move dodging fire instead of hiding. I had so much fun once I figured that out and after I did I still kept dying but I knew it was my fault for not learning the fight and once I did learn it I finally took down the boss and it was amazing.

What im saying is ignore all the morons that quit early and don't even attempt the endgame so im here to tell you ignore them and keep playing it gets better so much better I cant wait to try my first raid. Hell the guild that took down the first raid played for 14 hours straight and died 1605 times and when they finished bungie congratulated them and told them to try it again on hard mode. lol.

If you like shooters and you like a challenge play this game yes the leveling can be a little dull and I gave it a 9/10 because the story has a great setting but they failed to execute and that's why dropped it one point. But I can tell you if you want a challenge and like games with combat that is not broken and abilities that compliment your guns then ignore all the haters and give this game a try. I guess if you like to have your hand held and don't like a challenge then I have nothing to say to you because your not a real gamer.

Welcome to destiny. the game welcomes you into its relatively vast world and great art design, with the great customization and choices at the very beginning, all the way to the end, and the engaging plot. but don't be mistaken, a great beginning does not mean a great end.

Destiny bombards you with hoards of loot, making it ever more satisfying to get a new piece that looks great, and has a higher rating than your current one. the different choices of weapons you can have further this customization, by letting you play the way you want in combat. but with the mass of loot you get, once you reach a certain point it becomes like the lottery. you end up throwing more money at it than you get. there are many shops that allow you to purchase new gear, but the legendary and above, being the standard for most 20 and up players, takes a large sum of your time to be able to purchase it, forcing you to play missions you may not like, since most legendary gear you can purchase requires a different type of currency, being significantly more difficult to farm than glitter, the standard currency. and after that you still cannot purchase this shiny outfit or weapon you want, unless you have done enough quests for the person, or group. but when you finally get your hands on the new piece of gear, it feels amazing. this game truly is, at end game, quite Grindy. but most of the time you will have fun doing it, boss battles, PvP, you name it.

Speaking of boss battles, they can get insane. the bosses may be easy, as they are usually big and wonky beasts, with many corners and walls to hide behind when it attacks, but its the gigantic army of minions it has to help it that make the battle challenging, consisting of mini-bosses, and other enemies hard enough on their own. it eventually boils down to one player baiting the boss away from the others so they can take out the minions, with the later job being harder. and when that is done, you have a well designed boss battle to fight out, with a boss with usually around a million Hp, it usually feels like. and when you finally kill the abomination, you can dance on its corpse, quite literally, and compare the great loot you got with your raid partners.

PvP feels wonky. it takes a while to get used to the fact that unless you use an auto rifle and a shotgun, you will probably die a fair amount. getting good with other weapons in PvP takes some practice. but when you do, others will probably think your hacking, like any other PvP based game. and it feels good. Tons of maps to play on, all very well designed and balanced. some for long range combat, others close quarter, others can be both. there are different PvP modes, like large scale modes such as a hold the point game mode, and team death match. the best thing about PvP is that its skill based. there is no best weapon, no best armor, there is only you and how you play. well, besides the hunters, who are terrifying close up. the warlocks are amazing for crowd control, i remember one time, i killed all 6 players on the other team with my super charge. i was immediately labeled a hacker after that, like any multiplayer game ever, but boy did it feel good. the titan is surprisingly, more of a supportive role, as you will usually see a titan running around spamming his shield in a fight, making him temporarily invincible, making it very easy to take capture points, or if your in a sticky situation. once again, there is no best class.

the art style is bright and happy on earth, dark and depressing on the moon, ETC... The sound track makes it ever more immersive, with the booming of a fight, the soft melody of the cosmodrone...
the mechanics are great with the game. i cant stress this enough.

the main problem with this, is the lack of story. the story missions, while ultimately leading up to something, never tell you much about the lore, or story of the guardians or traveler. this can be fixed easily in expansions, just like the other weakness of the game.

I hope this was helpful, as this review was more to show you the mechanics of the game, less the game itself. there are plenty of reviews for that. but what everyone is complaining about seems to be the "questing system" which is traditional MMO questing, like, go here and kill this, go there and collect this. this is only in one mission type people! and its an optional mission type! if you don't like this, don't do it. that simple. its made for mainly glitter farming, and just goffing off, you dont have to quest.

but other than this, there is nothing wrong with destiny. the many people who claim the game to be bad, are comparing destiny to games it can't be compared to. this game is more of an MMO than a borderlands, its more of a shooter than an MMO even.this is a very unique game, and it gets the job done, through and through. i hope this was helpful. i would have written more, but im almost out of characters :D

i hope this convinced you to purchase this great game.

There are two elements to this game. First is the bland gameplay and vanilla story that takes no interesting turns. The second is the always online server system that drops me out of gameplay randomly and for no reason when every other device hooked to the wifi still works fine. I made it to level 10 and then decided to cut my losses and sell the game.

No real character development or anything to explain what was going on. You don't feel anything for your character or the npc's in game. Gameplay in story breaks down to, go to that area and kill everything while Peter Dinklage talks to you in the back round. The mechanics for the shooting are good and moving through battlefields is fluid, but auto aim can be a hassle and make the challenges in game difficult. Grinding is a problem once you get to higher levels. There are harder game modes to try and solve this, but if you don't have good enough armor, these modes are locked. The normal level gap to get theses harder game modes seems to be two levels below the assigned level difficulty. The next big hassle is getting better weapons and armor after reaching higher level forcing you to grind in story maps explore mode where you can do public event and small missions or pvp multiplayer. In the hub where you can buy new weapons and armor, the best is purchasable with rare currency items or currency marks from story and multiplayer. Multiplayer doesn't feel new, it feels like a copy of Call of Duty's multiplayer with a Destiny paint job. It feels like Call of Duty with flashy lights and explosions, but not something new and inspiring. Destiny has a flare but is not over the top. Expand

Feels like I have been sold half a game. With the incredible hype I expected hours of enjoyment but left with feeling empty.

The end-game content is weak, we are left with PvE strike playlists that have 5 strikes which get old fast and a Raid which is nearly impossible to do because we need to get 5 other people to sit down for a few hours to do with no matchmaking to get it all started.

The music and atmosphere is good, and the level design and graphics are excellent. So why the 5 you ask? The same problems that occur in any always-online game. You've been playing through the campaign solo, finished a particularly hard section, and then BOOM there was a problem connecting to partner services so now lets kick you out of your solo instance because you can't play single player! I'm giving it a 9, because there is no splitscreen and there is absolutely no reason to not have this option (especially with Bungie's past popular shooter). Also, sometimes the servers are wacky (but that is to be expected from any new game). Aside from that, the game is adventurous and exciting, very challenging. The gameplay changes completely depending on your arsenal or class. The game has a nice balance between PVP and PVE options. Real Issues: This game was hyped extensively, making everyone look at this game instead of those who'd find it interesting, the similar objectives across the various missions are just that, the rare Reach style flying across the map to death bug that has definitely been reduced, Peter Dinklage does have a few painful lines "TRIP MINES... Don't touch them!", and the connectivity issues that plague certain individuals for reason unknown to me

Now for the plus side; Fun and rewarding gameplay to those who are familiar with having to earn the gear necessary to reach the depths of this game as with other RNG loot based games (This is the only FPS I feel keep-able since some event a few years ago where I completely bummed out of the genre, especially a note-worthy title considering it's only on console.), the story is lackluster, but the end effect builds and interesting foundation. Especially with the Grimoire. Then there's the Vault of Glass, here all that you've read about repetitive gameplay is OUT THE WINDOW. Stealth, co-ordination, a brutal assault that is extensive, rewarding, and very well crafted. Character progression is well paced, and remains tangible past level 20. Especially when you start acquiring legendary/Exotic gear.

Overall, if you can enjoy a grind from a game that encourages a hearty challenge for the lucrative reward I'd say this game certainly has it's merits. Definitely not for everyone as advertised, but I'll be damned if this game isn't fun!

I really do like the way you can join up with random people and crazy story, it actually paired me up with a neighbor down the street (I believe it uses locality to determine this). That said I played for 30 minutes last night and was unable to find anyone. Another time I had 3 people in my fireteam and when they all left I was forced to fight a boss by myself. The bosses are somewhat cool looking but require nothing other than shooting for 20 minutes straight so there is a terrrible level of monotony. The multiplayer is passable as well, and while the "gear game" is there, I forsee a very short shelf life for the game beyond a couple months even for the most hard core fans. Starting off with 3 vs. 3 and now utilizing 6 vs. 6 still seems small and not up to par with even the Big Team Battles of Halo's past and nowhere near what we have come to expect from next gen. Quite possibly the biggest disapointment in video games I have ever bought into. FYI you can sell back your game by October to Gamestop and I think still get at least $30 for it. I plan to do this. Still perplexed as how Bungie could have let this happen. Also just as perplexed as to who runs the story division over there? I mean I'm not being picky, its just awful. Huge fan of Peter Dinklage too (Voice of your "ghost"). But there is only so much he can do to carry the story of the game in a role where he is a floating orb. Seriously Bungie, What happened??!?!?! I feel like I have wasted my money. The game gets better after level 2o only because you don't really have to play the non-sensical story line anymore. Everything that you want to buy takes forever to earn. I made the mistake of actually liking this game while I played through the storyline...so I bought the extra DLC pack along with it. I feel that was a mistake. I am close to taking it out of my system and never playing it again (or at least until some of the DLC I already paid for is out).

Now the PvP Multiplayer is the worst **** thing I have ever played. The mechanics of it make no sense, and Bungie somehow made it so I want to play Halo instead of it. Shotguns and Melee are the most powerful thing in existence....unless it is your shotgun or melee attack, then you will always lose. Everyone's gun is better than yours no matter what level. The hit locations seem like a random luck to kill someone. If you run in a pack the entire time, you will win...because while you wear down an enemy shield...a teammate will take the kill no matter what.

The bounties they have so you can rank up faster in both the fireteam and the PvP are really just the same thing constantly.

I had this veil over my face where I thought this was fun...but I was right the first time I played it. It is the same thing over and over and over. if I had to really give this an honest score...I would say a 3 out of 10. It just is missing so much.

    Singleplayer :

The singleplayer is the weakest part of this game. All the missions circle around an idea which is ''Go there then protect your Ghost''. It's always the same thing! You protect your Ghost against endless waves of NPC's... how boring is that when you just killed 20 or 30 of the same mobs. The story is the most uninteresting ever. They will never explain nothing to you.

The only good point I will say about the single player is the environment looks great as well as the enemies, they look awesome too. By the way, to being honest, I have never finished the campaign since it was repetitive. I stopped at the 4th world and then decided to go see a walkthrough. It is the same until the end so it saved me alot of wasting time.

    Multiplayer :

The reason why this game received 7/10 on my end. This is the half of the game that saves the day. This thing is good. Even if you feel underpower or you feel there's unbalance everywhere, this game has the ability to make you stay in the matchmaking loop for another round. I always want another game. Sometimes I suck, sometimes I win and it's fun! The only downside are the fact that everyone jumps so high, it's hard to keep up with a regular line of sigh. The classes makes the game hard to believe this is balance. Finally, there's no clear armor sets for PvP which is really hard for me to understand since I always look for a kind of sets or ability for PvP but I see none. You have to get some weapons from PvE to have a set that kick ass.

Then you play it for a few hours and realize that there is absolutely nothing of actual substance behind the flash and glitter. The enemies? Unimaginative. The story? Non-existent. The voice acting? Bland and lacking in any sort of impact. The whole experience was underwhelming, but it wasn't until the game asked me to start repeating the same paltry handful of missions over and over again that I suspected something else entirely sinister.

I have a theory, dear readers. And that theory is that the reason Bungie put the game through so many "re-writes" late in the design process was because the higher-ups at Activision wanted to take Destiny as it currently was and hack it up to portion it out as DLC. I suspect that The Dark Below and The House of Wolves, Destiny's first two expansions, were originally part of the retail game. This would explain why huge chunks of story seem to be missing, why characters that would seem to be important to the plot appear and disappear at random, and why nothing at all is clear. Bungie ripped its own game apart and then hastily reassembled the bare bones into a "story" so they could sell the rest to us later. This bodes very ill for any future content they would bring us.

All that business aside, there is very little to keep a player around once they've played through the main story line. The heroic level strikes are fun, for a time, but quickly become repetitive. The bounties and daily/weekly challenges are simply re-treads of the same content you've already played several dozen times. The Crucible is fun but extremely unbalanced; plus the PVP lacks variety, and, for some reason that I can not understand, two of the six game modes offered are only available for limited times during the week. Plus the community, a necessity for the longevity of any MMO (or hybrid thereof) is nonexistent. There is no way to casually converse with other players save for directly inviting them to your party or fireteam. This is at odds with the end game content, which requires groups of either 3 or 6 players to complete yet offers no matchmaking options. This game is in urgent need of some sort of chat window or other "LFG" option because as it stands coordinating a raid depends entirely on the player having enough friends in his or her friend list who are also playing the game to get it done. And on a side note: Clans. Because they are a complete side note and, if the game's achievements hadn't mentioned them, I would have never have known they were there.

All of these baffling design decisions (why did Bungie hide much needed world building lore content and clan creation on their website instead of making it accessible in game???) and shady DLC practices have made me doubt Bungie's ability to continue to make quality products now that they are out from under Microsoft's wing and you can be sure I will hesitate before purchasing another one of their games. Maybe Destiny will live up to its claims years down the road (though I am having doubts as to if it will even last that long), but as it stands this game is not worth your time or your money.

Destiny is a very ambitious game by all means. It's great to see a new spin on the first person shooter with the developer, Bungie, presenting the idea of the game being a shared world shooter that would engross you into a world ever presently filled with other players progressing through the game just as you are as well. As a shooter, the game is very tight and is what you would expectDestiny is a very ambitious game by all means. It's great to see a new spin on the first person shooter with the developer, Bungie, presenting the idea of the game being a shared world shooter that would engross you into a world ever presently filled with other players progressing through the game just as you are as well. As a shooter, the game is very tight and is what you would expect from the studio that created Halo. Additionally, the diversity of weapons and loot is vast and should keep any fan of RPG's pacified.

Now I would like to talk about the negatives. The story of Destiny is simply nonexistent and its gameplay is repetitive at times. As someone who has followed its development since its initial announcement, I feel like I knew just as much about the game and its setting than when I finished the campaign. The game sets up a few characters that never really get expanded upon at all. Additionally, Bungie has put a huge emphasis on fireteams in the game. Fireteams are a group of three people that join into a party and jointly complete objectives. However, the game lacks any social options to talk with other players unless they are already in your fireteam. The only time the game will actually assign you a fireteam is when you participate in a Strike mission, which usually contains a main boss, a mini boss right before the main boss and at some point you have to hold an objective while your electronic companion, Ghost, fiddles with something. Additionally, for a game that puts such an emphasis on teamwork, it never shows your team in any sort of cutscenes nor does it reward you for being in a team in any way that you couldn't have also been rewarded as a solo player. Additionally, for all the work you do to drive back "The Darkness", you never see a result of your actions appear in game, especially at the end game. I won't even get started on the voice acting because I'm sure that's been driven into the ground on the internet anyways.

As far as multiplayer goes, there are a few playlists and cumulatively it is decent. The concept that everything your character has in his inventory in the single player can be used in the multiplayer is a neat idea for a seamless transition between the two but it is also the biggest drawback. Because of this, everyone can bring a rocket launcher, everyone can bring a light machine gun, everyone can bring a sniper rifle and so on. Everyone's weapons are scaled back to an equal level in order to keep lower and higher level players on equal terms, so the defining difference is who has what perk enabled for their weapon. One such perk is homing rockets or exploding sniper bullets. Certainly you could see how having that in a multiplayer match could be a problem.

Overall, I feel like I paid 60 dollars to simply shoot things to level up to shoot bigger things and collect money so my character looks pretty. It seems somewhere along the developmental line of the game that the developer dropped off the story and focused simply on making a shooter. The result is a well polished shooter that is lacking in all aspects beyond that. I hope to see problems such as the story remedied in the two upcoming expansions currently planned for the game. Additionally, I expect more multiplayer updates will come in time that will balance it out.

As someone who has been a longtime fan of Bungie, followed the game for years and played it for 30+ hours now with a level 24 character, I can not say this is bad game. I like it but there are certainly strong and prevalent problems that I would love to see remedied in the future.

Bungie has laid out a fantastic foundation for the franchise to grow up from. Destiny is a shooter, first and foremost, and this shines through its polished gunplay. The breadth of weapons allows for several different approaches to handling enemies, and the availability of semi-customizable upgrades makes you think about which weapons you'll want to take into different battles. Destiny also has many beautifully crafted environments available to explore, and the three distinct enemy factions inhabiting different areas adds to the variety. Despite this, the amount of playable content available in these environments is quite slim, and players are required to complete highly repetitive tasks to progress, whether that be in regards to reputation grinding for a faction, or obtaining higher leveled gear which allows one to tackle higher level missions. This is highlighted due to a general lack of deep, compelling storytelling that Bungie is known for. A major downside to solo players becomes apparent in Destiny's endgame. There is no matchmaking available for weekly Heroic Strikes, weekly Nightfall Strikes, or the Vault of Glass raid. This limits solo players who have no one to group with, and forces many of them to actively seek out groups to complete these events, as they are essentially the only way to acquire the games best gear. Destiny's PvP can also tend to be rather unbalanced. For example, a team composed of multiple Hunter Bladedancers, which when their super is active can take massive amounts of damage while gliding across the battlefield slicing opponents to ribbons, versus a team of mostly Striker Titans, whose super is a single burst over a short range, usually does not end well for the Titans. Despite all of its flaws, Destiny's gameplay is very fun and engaging, and the game has a ton of potential. If Bungie tweaks the availability of some of the current endgame material, and expands on the lore and storytelling in Destiny's upcoming downloadable content, the game may actually become what it was hyped to be from the beginning. It's definately not one of those games where you can't wait to pick up the controller again and get back to it.

You'll find yourself playing The Raid, and a small handful of Strikes over and over week after week for little to no reward. The Crucible is a lot of fun, but feels unbalanced and glitchy. A few patches later it will be a great experience. Expand

Thanks to bounties and hunting for exotic equipment, the game will keep you entertained through both game modes and it will definitely have you interested in a long time as exotic equipments are very rare and hard to obtain.
The game mechanics and combat of the game gets a 7/10
The level cap which is set at level 20 and requires light equipment after and along with limited weapons and lack of a third subclass can definitely improve the game.
    I would rate the game's graphics a 8.5/10
The only flaw being lack of character customization which somewhat ties into graphics. The graphics of Destiny are beautiful starting from the loading screen and going to boss fights and multiplayer, it is beautiful all the way through.
I would give the story and audio of the game a 6.5/10
Mostly because of the lack of story and the awkward character voices and guns. The background music along with most sounds for the game are fit and quite enjoyable.

Destiny was an amazing game, it was beautifully designed, there is a wide variety of items and it's generally awesome. But the missions are pretty repetitive and weapons are really similar despite the authenticity Bungie tries to provide. But overall it's a pretty good game and totally worth playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny suffered from the under the weight of its own expectations. Dubbed as the "next big thing" when it was first announced - Destiny was supposed to be the new IP to end all other IPs. It ended up falling flat because...there's just not much here. It's ambitious in scope, but lacking in execution (possibly because Activision gutted it for later DLC), but once you've hit 30ish hours or so in the game you'll enter this new phase where everything is repetitive. I understand how grinding for loot works, but the barebones content makes the grind almost unplayable after awhile. Is Destiny worth playing? Yes. But it's not the next big thing Bungie touted it to be. Expand

Fun game ... just not for as long as I was hoping. I gave it an 8 because it is worth $60 and you will enjoy about 60 hours of gameplay if you try out all 3 classes ... 150+ hours if you are really into PVP matches.
Pros: Controls are smooth, maps are beautiful and well-designed, and weapon types are interesting.

Where Destiny falls short: Classes are not different enough, storyline is almost non-existent (read lore online), no waypoints, repetitive missions, loot drops are not exciting, and enemy AI is not very bright. As a Halo player since H:CE, I may have expected too much from Bungie's Destiny.

Buy and play it tons if you are into Halo-like PVP matches. If into solo play, buy it on DVD, play it hard for 2 weeks, then trade it in when you want a new thrill. If you want a compelling story like the Halos, don't bother at all.

But its VERY repetitive, if you like going to the same places over and over and over and killing the same bad guys again and again you might like it. It seams that the only point of the game (because the story is non existent) is to level up your character and equipment (im level 29 on all 3 characters) But even when you do level up you never really become more powerful relative to the enemys because they level too, so in order to appreciate how much of a badass you have become you have to play early levels again, but they make you do that anyway. But hey thats what this game is all about.............. Repetition WTF NOT AGAIN?? should be the catchphrase for destiny.
On the plus side i have interacted with a lot of random people on this game, teaming up for missions and making friends etc. Its great to be part of a fire team working together, and you need to be in a fire team because the strikes on the harder levels are a good challenge.

The game was fun. Then the whiners came, and with them, followed patches that ruined the game. Not only that, but the community is so hostile and acts so "superior" just because they completed a raid and have raid gear, despite you both being level 30. The community is a joke, and so is the repetitiveness.

Bungie + Activision = the biggest rip off, since to open up the game you have to buy the expansions.

It would be ok if Bungie had included a decient end game, like one of the expansion packs should be part of the main game. But to include almost zero end game and then say we have to pay more to get the real game! I played 50 hours trying to get this end game stuff Bungie talked about!

I will not be buying the expansion packs because this cannot become the norm for gaming in the future. We should not be given an incomplete game and then be expected to pay more money to get a full game. As I was building to lvl 20 there was an ok amount of things in the game, and I was content with it since I thought the game would really "Open up" as bungie put it. But as I played and passed lvl 20 I realized i just wasted time with this incomplete game and my contentness turn into anger and the game has not been played on my console again.

I am giving this game a 4/10 because the control, gfx, and gameplay are pretty good. But it needs to lose 6 points just on integrity as this should not become the norm.

Graphics/Effects/Music - Destiny is a beautiful game. The sound effects and musical score are also excellent. Why did they fire the guy?
Bottom Line: Don't fall for the marketing hype or the fancy sounds and graphics. This game will bore you after a month (at most) due to its repetitive design, lack of content, lack of story, and neglected multiplayer. I definitely regret my purchase.

Graphics/Effects/Music - Destiny is a beautiful game. The sound effects and musical score are also excellent. Why did they fire the guy?

Gameplay - The shooter mechanics of this game are also excellent. Easily better than ALL the shooters I've EVER played. Yes, clearly Bungie's skill level is superb. That's why the rest of my review makes me so sad...

Story/Lore - The story/lore is practically non-existent. As strange and crazy as this sounds given Bungie's reputation, please understand that this is not an exaggeration. Somewhere during the life cycle of Destiny's development, a large amount of cuts were made which caused their lead writer to leave the company. I am guessing they could not figure out how to make it work because the end result is that far too many aspects of the game do not make any sense. Bungie's poor excuse for a solution was to create snippets of ambiguous explanations called Grimoire on their website and force players to earn achievements in-game in order to read them. If you do not believe me, run a Google search.

"Story" Mode (PVE) - The missions that take you through the non-existent story will only last you 6-8 hours. The lack of a story could be forgiven if these 6-8 hours were filled with exciting and innovative missions. Unfortunately every single mission boils down to the same objectives - kill waves of enemies, go to some location, and protect your ghost while he hacks stuff. With a name like "Destiny" you would think there should be some epic nature to everything you do but that is not the case.

Multiplayer (PVP) - The company that made Halo seems to have failed at what should be the most content-packed aspect of the game according to their history. There are only 4 playlists (game modes), you cannot create a custom playlist, and you cannot create a private game. Right now every other shooter in the market provides more to enjoy than Destiny in this area. And while most MMOs manage to make PVP an integrated aspect of the game world and lore, with Destiny it feels like you are accessing some obscure neglected part of the game. It's supposed to be a simulation for the various factions in the game but the factions are not at war with each other and there is no clear reason as to why these factions even exist. So Destiny's multiplayer fails regardless of what genre you analyze from.

Replay Value - Bungie's strategy is to have you replay the original 6 hours of content over and over again to upgrade your gear. While this is standard across MMO games, every other MMO that exists has found a way to provide purpose and enjoyment to this activity. Destiny has not. The gear is meaningless because the additional attributes given to your character cannot be used except to continue repeating the original content (your upgraded gear is downgraded when jumping in multiplayer). It doesn't help that every other MMO contains 1 year or more of content to play through while Destiny has no more than a month. And it seems Bungie's idea of increasing difficulty is to simply make the enemies require more bullets to kill (higher health). Don't be fooled by the terminology used to reflect in-game activities - missions, strikes, patrols - it's all the exact same areas, with the same enemies, and objectives identical to what is in the story mode.

It's worth mentioning that Bungie has openly said their game is focused on grinding for better gear (after reaching level 20). PVE and PVP are all designed to provide some sort of pathway for upgrades. I can't stress enough how this design is completely undermined by the lack of content you must grind through and the lack of purpose for obtaining better gear.

Social - Every shooter and every MMO provides players the ability to directly communicate with their teammates within the game. Bungie, the creators of Halo's matchmaking, seems happy to not build this into the game and force everyone to search for like-minded gamers through third party websites or rely exclusively on your console friends list. That means there is no voice chat when playing multiplayer (a beta version of this has been added recently), there is no simple way to find players who want to team up for the team-based content, and the social area of the game forces you to manually inspect and send private messages to players from a list of 16 (meaning you don't have access to all gamers who might be interested in high level content). If you bought Destiny, make sure to have a laptop or tablet next to your controller so you can find people to play with. To top it off, Bungie has locked away the single most interesting part of the game (the one raid mission) so that it can only be played by pre-formed parties of 6.

Destiny is a big game with a lush variety of atmospheric worlds and their mysterious inhabitants.
You are thrown in the game without much explanation and puzzle your own picture together in the 12 - 15 hours of storymode. Which is the biggest criticpoint of Destiny and was to expected to be, but not for the -in other reviews- stated reasons. You make your own story, the game was never intended to play like a Halo nor a Borderlands. You are one guardian of the city, one of many. So your character lacks the depth a few people were expecting. But there is not a single second in the game you don't feel as part of a larger struggle for riddled mankind to fight its way back to the golden age. Atmospheric, the Game is an absolute blast. From gorgeous graphics to the variety and appearance of enemy's to the deep, yet to be explored lore. Backed by martys ( he will be missed ) incredible music.
The Game sucks you in its world so much that it leaves to much unanswered. The story feels to short for the big Universe which is its biggest weakness. It cries for more because you had so little interactions with other characters and you are left with so many questions. But Bungie could patch sidequests or unlock more story endgame as time goes on.

As a level 20 you have everything what you see unlocked the game guides you no more and you are on your own. The Strike playlist lets you replay random strikes at 4 different difficulties ranging from normal which is quite challenging on its own up to hard and extremely hard difficulties which grant access to high end loot and vanguard points that can be invested in any legendary vanguard equipment back at the tower. Currently there seem to be 5 strikes all quite unique, all rewarding if you succeed.
The Game never feels like a big grind which is a good thing if you don't like this mmo aspect its always rewarding because every enemy has the chance to drop engrammes that contain random loot from common to legendary.
Crafting is a bit simplistic but never the less lets you many options for customizing your gun ( especially high end ones ) and upgrades can become expensive calling you to collect the ingredients or demontating your unneeded equipment for parts.
The Guns all feel really good and fit in with the smooth gameplay which plays like a hybrid between halo 2/3 and MW 1/2 not to slow not too fast making it one of the best playing fps games in a long time.

This especially shows in the crucible ( multiplayer ) when fighting other guardians. The game has a huge focus on skill, allowing a good sniper to dominate the map, even sniping drivers out of enemy vehicles. Map control is hugely important for controlling the crucial ammo spawns ( one guy with a loaded machinegun can turn a game ) and vehicles all off whom are balanced allowing for a easy flank or a blast to hell with your super.
It also brings Halo like medals and complete gamestatistics all stored on bungie.net leaving only the wish / hope for some kind of theatre mode in the future to complete the experience.
For people complaining the multiplayer is unbalanced, there seems to be some code in the game to negate your lvl advance and higher weapon damage so all play on a level playing field. As tested I have not seen a single unfair weapon each and everyone of the weapons you collect have drawbacks, some allow to compensate trough skill and allow for a quick kill.

    In Summary :
    positive:
    +Great Atmosphere / Immersion
    +Beautiful graphics
+Smooth controls and flawless gameplay / weaponplay
    +Variety of enemy's and places
    +great multiplayer
+ 12 - 15 hours scratching on the surface of a deep universe
+ All game is playable with up to 2 friends
    + Challenging and rewarding content

    Negative:
    - Soundtrack is great but a bit repetitive
    - Storycharacters remain unexplored in large parts
    - Story has left way to many questions open
    - no bazillion gunz

In Summary, its not an Mmo, its not Borderlands, its not Halo, its Destiny.
It is primarily a sci-fi shooter with big lore potential and its massively fun to play with a small group of friends, or in multiplayer. The game was made to easily add contend in the future as of daily Updates or paid Dlc, remains to be seen. Its definitively no 0 (people so massively disappointed really should have played the Beta to get an Impression) and its not a perfect game at whole. But the Multiplayer and coop part come very close to that. In Addition comes the great Immersion of the game in general.

    All in all 8.5-9 / 10.

The controls for the most part are very smooth, most importantly the shooting, grenade and knife throwing etc. the on screen map is great too. It's a circular compass that makes it really easy to find your enemies. The enemy AI improves as you go as well. The only problem I had with the game play is weapon switching with the "y" button occasionally jammed or was a little slower than optimal. You keep so many weapons in your arsenal in would be nice for Destiny to make use of the kin next and let you switch primary weapons via voice command.

The game is also quite social. The game really encourages you to play with friends and offers a wide variety of co-op and PvP options to make this happen. The guardian can dance, salute and point too which helps for making friends with strangers when you encounter them when playing solo. Graphically, Destiny is beautiful. Environments are rich and vary throughout the game.

Xbox 1 gamers have been waiting for exciting software for almost a year now. Destiny is that game. it does play a lot like Halo, but with all types of new features and emphasis on multiplayer gaming.

Got it yesterday and loving it so far, the music and visuals are amazing. The story is pretty cool so far, I like the voice acting. The game play is very cool, all the mechanics seem really smooth. Big thumbs up from me.

Just like many others around the world I picked up my copy of the long-awaited Destiny for the Xbox One. I popped it in, installed it an about 40 minutes and jumped right into the action. I had played the beta a few months ago, which definitely peaked my interest. As I ran through the first mission I was amazed, the game still blew me away with gorgeous visuals, it plays so well. I had played the beta a few months ago, which definitely peaked my interest. As I ran through the first mission I was amazed, the game still blew me away with gorgeous visuals, it plays so well. The movement and shooting feels so natural and precise its awesome, and it makes it fantastic to play. As I moved up in level I managed to join up with a friend, we began making our way through missions which weren't available during the short demo, again I found myself in awe of the beauty.
The loot system is also fun and addictive, many will compare it with Borderlands 2, a loot-centric game, but Destiny is different, the game is not about just loot (which is a good thing). In Borderlands' games I often find myself spending half my time in the menus comparing items, however in Destiny loot is not constantly bombarding you, every so often (just the right amount of time) you find a new piece of equipment, this keeps you playing not comparing stats. When you finally find that new armor piece or weapon that is better than your own it feels rewarding, and often isn't replaced right away. Borderlands throws loot at you so much that your constantly switching items in and out, Destiny allows you to use the loot you have earned rather than swapping it out every few minutes. The weapon leveling system works well and helps a great deal with this, rare items often can level and give you new bonuses, this makes them even more useful and increases longevity.
After a couple hours I decided it was time to play competitively in the crucible. I wasn't sure what to expect, I was only level 7 and I assumed I would be outgunned, but surprise again, the multiplayer is incredibly balanced. Not once did I feel outmatched or out of my depth, the weapons all feel fair and evenly matched. The maps are also extremely well put together, mind you this isn't a surprise, it is Bungie after all.
My only gripe so far is a lack of information, I want more backstory on what happened to earth for it to get to this point, I want more context around all these ruins and abandoned buildings everywhere. Who and what exactly are the Fallen? What exactly is a guardian? Why did I get revived from the dead? I want more! (I have a feeling at least some of these answers will come farther into the game).

This game is incredibly average. The story is basically Halo 1, but less fun because what little voice acting there is feels wooden and you never do anything that makes you feel remotely cool like escaping an exploding space ship in a car (admit it, when you were young and did that the first time you felt like a bad ass).

The story is basically Halo 1, but less fun because what little voice acting there is feels wooden and you never do anything that makes you feel remotely cool like escaping an exploding space ship in a car (admit it, when you were young and did that the first time you felt like a bad ass).
Every mission is literally exactly the same, land on a planet, fight to a secluded area, have your Ghost activate something then fight off waves of enemies, then after the waves a boss either spawns, or you head a little further in and fight a boss. That is it... every single mission in the storyline is exactly that, and the boss fights aren't even fun because there are no mechanics to it, you essentially hide behind something when they attack and then step out to fire.
Then you have the side mission of which there are only 4 variations, you either have to kill a bunch of enemies, kill a specific enemy, go somewhere and scan something, or kill a bunch of enemies and gather a certain item which is essentially the same as just killing a bunch of enemies.
The weapon and loot system is basically the same as borderlands except with at best a 10th of the variety. There are 9 weapon types, many of which are very similar, and within those types there is absolutely no variation.
Now you would think the online play would be redeeming, after all a game is much more fun with more people. Except the people you see playing have virtually no way to contact you or speak to you. There is no point in teaming up to do a mission since they are so incredibly easy, even "hard" mode isn't that much of a challenge.
The only online feature I enjoyed was the "strike" or dungeon system which was kind of fun because some bosses were vaguely difficult, but they did follow the same lack of mechanics as other bosses.

Pvp is not half as enjoyable as the mega-fans would have you believe. I think it would be better if there were more of it in the open world, but instead you get put into a limited arena. Once there you will notice how horribly unbalanced combat is. Since a titan has more survivability and there is virtually no difference in damage between the classes since everyone uses the same pool of weapons you either play as titan or die. Hunters can occasionally do well, but thats mostly because of the grenade that homes in when enemies get close and the ridiculously overpowered throwing knife which no other class has anything remotely comparable. Also forget about getting any kills without a sniper rifle, but thats pretty similar to many online shooters.
The world looks kind of pretty, but the graphics look more like mid last gen than early current gen. So the area you actually play in can look pretty dull, but the backdrop is beautiful.
The vehicle system is weak at its best moments, and I feel pretty ripped off with that crappy sparrow from pre-ordering.
Honestly it isn't too awful, the gameplay is moderately fun, but it is nothing new and personally i believe Halo did it better. It helps that I have a couple friends with the game and we play online on occasion.

I promise I am not just someone who is pissed that the game did not live up to the hype, but they definitely made some big promises on the originality and vast content and we have seen none of that. It isn't even like I haven't given the game a decent try, believe me when I say that I really, reeeeaaallllyyy, wanted to love this game. I played a Warlock all the way to 20 and have about 5 levels into a titan, I might work on a hunter to see if it is any better, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As for my particular score, I personally believe it should have a 6 or 7, but somebody has to counter the massive influx of undeserved perfect scores when at the very best this game might get an 8, and only if you had incredibly low expectations and very little experience with shooters.

Update: In a continued attempt to enjoy this game I played more. I had previously hit level 20, but other than a Mars Strike I didn't do much playing after level 20, so I decided to try some vanguard strikes and some other stuff. That is why I lowered the score which was previously a 5/10. All the people saying the game really opens up after level 20 either haven't hit level 20 or are total idiots. What happens is you get access to vanguard strikes which are essentially the same strikes you have been doing but with higher level enemies... that is it, no new content, the loot is awful (I did the level 20 strike and got a level 16 piece of gear), and in general the game actually got worse.

Now many people are saying that the game is going to get so much better with dlc and all of this other junk. I for one did not pay full price for less than half of a game, and I resent being required to pay $35 for what is bound to be another small portion of said game.

If it were possible to get my money back from Bungie I would.

Bright spot on the multiplayer is certain vehicles and turrets as well on some of the bigger maps.

Co-op is a lot of fun and the best way to play this game. Playing this game alone is very difficult at times and may even seem impossible.

Music in this game is amazing! 10/10
Graphics are very well done 9/10
    Controls 7.5/10
Story 9/10 so far (still playing!)
    Sound 9/10

I wish there was more loot in the game similar to Borderlands.
The open world exploration is awesome and helps you rank up to beat other missions! The Darkness you fight (aliens) are smart and at times tough. The bosses in this game are pretty awesome. I have seen Wizard aliens, Demonic looking Aliens and Massive Eyeball alien and a Huge Tank. I think this game is a good first effort. I would recommend you picking it up if you are a fan of Halo, COD, Borderlands etc

Give this game time as you play it as it just keeps getting better! Make sure you explore the tower for upgrades and rewards and meeting fellow gamers!

I actually feel like Bungie assumed by throwing a pile of multiplayer type maps with generic mobs scattered around them and adding a non-engaging story, it would appeal to the huge amount of Halo multiplayer player fans. The key point is they used multiplayer type maps for advertised open world adventure rpg like game play. These maps feel so boring, so generic, there is ONE map per planet location, it just feels cheap, lazy and not fun at all. I don't think Destiny has ANYTHING NEW, at all. The game is just put together a bit different than most but it all depends on old game play modes and ideas and old looking graphics. If you own the game, go look out at the horizon and sky, notice the 2D flat looking clouds moving about, it's a joke and the game world graphics look dated as well. I attributed these plain graphics to the need to make them playable on Xbox 360 and PS3. But bottom-line is Destiny is just not anything new at all and after trying to seriously get into this game all day and night long, I kept being turned off by the same maps, same generic mobs they use over and over each map AND each planet is just one map, not that big, that is used for every mission on that planet. It just feels like a ripoff, like they were banking (literally) that people would love the multiplayer maps for single player story missions. Expand

At this point I am rating the game a 9 out of 10, although I am not to far into it. The gameplay is a blast, and the graphics are the best I have seen yet on the xbox one. I love being able to tell if someone is around the corner just by seeing their shadow on surrounding objects if the lighting is right. The gameplay itself is very fluid and seems to be a mixture of Halo, and Mass Effect. The seemless co-op play at any point in the game is a very welcomed addition and something the Xbox one needed, as me and a friend have been waiting for a good co-op game and none had been released to this point unless you count BF4 which I don't consider really co-op since you cannot go through the campaign together. Those bashing the game are just that, bashers. You can tell reading the 0 review ratings that they have put little effort into the game and most likely may not even own the game. The game is not repetitive so far and I have put about 5 hours into it, and each mission is somewhat unique your not just going to point a and b and killing stuff as some others stated. The only reason I have not given the game a 10 is because to me no game can be perfect, there are some little things that I would love to see expanded upon or improved. The tech tree seems pretty lame as in you have no choice on what abilities to unlock each level unless this changes later on. You have a specific ability you get each level, and that is it. So the same class will be to different from each other. However I have noticed there is sub classes that I have yet to unlock and maybe that will add that customization I was hoping to see. Expand

Missions are too repetitive, the 3 races are there for no reason other than to have 3 player races. Very little Lore at all. Overall it feels like Halo Jr Lite Easy edition. Maybe all of the best of Bungie went over to 343 Studios?

The game is about the journey, not rushing to some theoretical end or level cap. The story is simple, saving the universe and dominating the enemy, this is not a complicated proposition. Those looking for a complex storyline, with deep character development juxtaposed with involved physiological themes of motivation should read a good book ( I would recommend The Count of Monte Cristo). Otherwise have fun shooting aliens with your character with your favorite guns and supplemental abilities.

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.
