I like this game. I like the fact you can have a single player campaign and also try out multiplayer when you want to. I also like that there will be more DLC available.

Nice clean crisp graphics, but lacking in EVERY other design element.
The game feels very bare and stripped leaves you wondering where the amount of attention and features that went into Halo have disappeared. LESS variety than Call of Duty. No local Co-Op, No offline mode. This game will NOT last 10 years, they`d be lucky to have a strong following after 2 years.

Really struggling to see how it is the most expensive game ever made (to date). Not really much of a storyline, possibly 2 or 3 cutscenes with a anti-climatic ending. Connection issues are named after every animal there is.... and there are a lot of connection issues.

One positive is that it looks nice, and that's where it ends.

so my review is based off of 40+hrs of play time and what i read in review before release on game informer and other various gaming sites of what was expected. and after my play through and before reading other post-launch reviews. so bare with me as i start with the pros

    PROS:
-the game control feel solid and don't feel badly mapped or clunky. played halo and you got them memorized already. pluses all around

-the set design for stages feel well thought out and design. every planet (and moon) feels alive. for instance the earth shot from the moon. you see earth as it rotates around the sun from darkness to light.

-multiplayer, reference the first pro from this list. its what keep this game from lower scores

    - and if you have played BL2 or any other grind fest game then you're used to co-op and grinding for better loot and skins

-killing a boss in a slug fest fight is fun with friends. the sense of "f**k yeah"

    CONS:
-unlike BL2 the co-op fun that you had trading loot of guns or skins you don't want with friends. Is not there period, you're stuck with it until you do the game way "trading" and that suck even more cause decent loot drops are rare. and sometimes lopped sided. like your star player goes just "hammer time" on a raid or multi-player and gets what is equivalent to a common white weapon while the "walking bait" member gets legendary orange

-difference in term of playing style of characters is negligible. beside the accustomed special move they don't effect your strategy as like the guns you want equip your character. will using this be better suited for my titan "soldier" abilities or my friends warlock "gun wizard" much as other MMO player classes. but remember CON 1 "no player trading" so optimizing is out of the questing

-multi-player need some type of nerfing to limit one shot kills against other oR new players. take note i haven't played the game much after leveling past 25 so i don't really know the state of it so far.

-maps are to linear and small for game of this size and budget. enter same spot...exit same spot on other side of map.

-the story will run 7-12 hr if you minimize deaths and play as a team. But a game this size and budget should not have 7-12hrs of story. better yet NO MMO should have that. end game should be a sprint to the finish. something you can finish in the first day of playing. IT'S A MMO story is your backbone the lore behind it is what keeps people searching maps for artifacts and playing in general. Your paying 60+ dollars of exposition not the real story. just setup for the day one DLC...more money (i know it's not released yet but it was announced with the games release.)

    - mission design was to simple and repetitive. go to objective A. I can't open the door but i can hack it. Defend our position until i can finish. Doors open go to object B. Oh snap door is locked but i can hack it....all doors open, all waves hoarded lets go to venus and do the same thing. There is no variety like doors is closed and i cant hack it. blow it the open or we must push our way threw the enemy base to find another way in.

-raids are exactly the same bosses don't provide new strategy to the next run through. just become bullet sponges and make fights last hours while using the same combination of lines to beat them. No "you want to run left to avoid my attack I'll send a add-on to force you right" or "i have a new AoE to make you rage cause you don't have armor or weapon to counter"

-after shoveling out 60+ dollars you have to more money (dlc) to get more story run time. more gun with hopefully better loot drops. and more mission variety. i understand dlc to add-on to the player experience but not to add-on to a bare-bone game.
It is equivalent to going to a 5 star restaurant (bungie/activision) and asking for the $60 beef stew and they give you gravy. you asked the waiter where the other stuff in the picture (per-release hype from bungie) you have to pay another 35 for the steak and vegetables (content). we got it right here ready to drop (DLC) but are you willing to pay for it.

    conclusion
Its a very fun polished game you will have fun but where do you draw the line of fun and cheap ploy of a 5 star game pulling 2 star game moves. And thats why i gave this game a 4 cause of the glaring cons of a business model bungie/activision are trying to pull. its 10 yr life cycle is really 5-6 stretched thin i mean really thin to make up development cost (first game) and gouge the consumer of more money (dlc). you don't pay full msrp price car for the chassis with no interior or engine. and you don't buy a game for full price without story or content. sale price yes full NOPE. if you have fun with this game all the power to you "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness". But if for any reason you didn't like this game for defined reasons keep the game don't buy anything else for it until bungie makes it worth while.

    DON't BELIEVE THE HYPE

This game is fun, but lacking. The enemies should drop more similar to diablo and the story could be far more engaging. The worlds are not truly open as I am killed by architects all the time. It is fun and graphics are great but the city itself and the drops from enemies leave me wanting more. The missions are very repetitive as well. Still a fun game, just not worth the hype just yet.

BORING! Only one type of enemy on each planet, no interaction with players roaming around you, limited classes, weapons, and on top of it all the story is bloody horrible. I gave it a 5 because the game mechanics are well developed and it runs smooth - graphics are ok. This is a 1 month stop gap to the next big game.

This game is a game you can wait to buy, it's so boring but I will return to that, I have been reviewing games for decades and when I saw the trailer for this game and played the BETA, I was sure it would be GOTY, I bought it over Xbox one Digital and wow don't ever do that. I really want a refund on this game. I really want a refund on this game. They used 500 million dollars for this game. and I can't see where they used that budget. Was it for advert or the game itself?

    The game:

The story and lore: is gone, I have been playing for 10 hours and they can't deliver the story they want to give us. it's nothing more than fetch quests. and on earth the only place you can visit is Old Russia that's it, Bungie said the exploring will be big, what they meant by that: would be Moon, Mars and Venus not earth, the main story on earth would take 2 hours and your done and you will be moving on to moon.
They spend 7-8 years on a game what felt like they only used 3 years. The loading screen is taking forever, reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever on the Xbox 360

Combat: The combat is smooth and I really love it. Reminds me of borderlands but more better. But the enemies pull the game Down: you kill someone, walk 50 m and turn around. Boom they are back. the script on the enemies is this: they shoot, you take damage and they hide for minutes. Repeat.. No joke

PVP: like any other FPS. Team vs team. But this PVP is really balanced, that I enjoy it really much, more than the story/game itself. Which I find weird.

Level: To easy and for few lvl caps, (I know this game isn't aiming for a MMO but 20 really?)

Can I recommend this: No not at all, this game is only fun to play with friends not solo. You can wait to the Price drops. You won't feel the Bungie's 500 million budget and the 7-8 years progress, this game is like a light version of halo 2. Normally I love games, and I was looking forward to Destiny, but it disappoints on the levels this game sold me on, (story and exploration which isn't there and the loot are limited)

But this game doesn't deserve a rating below 6 or above 7, it's entertainment with your friends in PVP and if you just like lv ling and gear grind this game is for you(and killing aliens and zombies) but this game can't deliver any story itself which I don't like. If a game can't a deliver a decent story or a story that makes sense(I am talking about Zelda: The Faces of Evil) It's a game I can not recommend at all. I have been through all Things in this games, and if my review didn't convince you to buy it, don't buy it, I am normally open minded but this game didn't reach it's expectations. Destiny have been done to many times.

Sorry my grammar and have a nice day, hope this review helps you and your friends to buy this. Wait some months, that all I have to say.

There were a couple of very annoying elements in this game which unfortunately ruined the good parts.

Firstly the awful re-spawning of enemies, The aliens would re-spawn every couple of minutes, at times when I hadn't even cleared an area, and they would just return to the exact same spot without any variation whatsoever. No patrolling, no variation in enemy types, and the exact same spawn location every time. It robbed the game of any feeling of accomplishment.
Secondly why can't I turn off the annoying music. At times I had to play the game on mute just to block out the irritating drone.
Lastly the repetitive nature of the missions. Spawn in the same spot, kill the same aliens over and over again, and then wait while your ghost scans something,l while you beat off waves of aliens, and kill a boss.

Unfortunately an uninspiring, over hyped, monotonous shooter, that belongs in the bargain bin.

Plays OK, looks OK but Ultimately bland. Story structure is uninspiring, poorly thought out and repetitive. The Crucible (Vs Multiplayer mode) again is good enough but nothing about it stands out. Sony's fantastic PR machine has whipped up a storm about a truly average title. For me Bungie is the most overrated software developer in the history of video gaming. (BETA played on PS4, game on Xbone)

Don't fall for all the troll reviews, Destiny is a beautifully crafted game, definitely deserving of praise, and is very much worth the hype, although it isn't without it's flaws. Destiny features a quite lengthy story, atleast for today's standards, with me clocking in just over 12 hours to complete the story missions.

The story is quite enjoyable, and is told in a similar way to the first Halo, with mysterious background story, an ancient threat, badass alien races and futuristic "super soldiers". In similar vein to Halo: CE, Destiny's story is told quite subtlety, and its quite easy to see it's being set up to tell future stories, be that through DLC or future titles. But Destiny isn't all about the story, it's more so about the multiplayer experiences.

Along with all the story missions being playable with a full fireteam (Group of 3), it also offers many activities for you and your friends to enjoy. These activities include Patrol mode, which lets you free into the beautiful game world with your friends and other people venturing through the area, and sets you free from any boundaries. It allows for you to roam around the world killing enemies, exploring hidden areas for loot chests, secret high-level enemies, and also has mini-missions throughout whichever location you're exploring to keep you occupied. I've found my self lost within Patrol mode for hours, just capping enemies and doing random missions. Patrol mode is definitely one of my favourite modes in the game, and i can see myself putting days of gametime into this mode alone.

Along with patrol, Destiny features Strikes and Raids(Available on Sept. 16th). Strikes are a small co operative mission, generally split into three sections. Strikes allow for one fireteam to take on its challenges, and are highly replayable due to the fact that in the three split areas of the Strike, all enemies besides bosses are randomly generated and always follow different patterns, creating a new experience each time. Raids promise to be Strikes on a much larger scale, potentially taking hours to complete, and will allow for two fireteams to play in one session.

Although the Co-Op options in Destiny are some of the most fun i've had in a while, this wouldn't be a Bungie game without a potent competitive multiplayer mode, known in Destiny as the Crucible. The Crucible is filled with a few modes, although in normal Bungie fashion there will probably be more added as time goes on. There isn't much I can say about the Crucible besides the fact that it is one of the best Competitive Multiplayer experiences on the Next-Gen consoles at the moment. Weapon Equalization makes for balanced matches where the more skilled player will win over the player who has better weapons due to time played. That, mixed in with some amazing map design and great character abilities creates for one addictive mode that set to played for months to come.

All in all, Destiny is one of the best games currently available on Next-Gen, and one of the best FPS games I've played in a long while. It's definitely 10/10 material as some people are saying, and it's definitely not the MMO experience many were expecting, but it's a very potent shooter with tons of replayability in all the modes, be it the story mode, the wealth of Co-Op activities, or the amazingly crafted Competitive Multiplayer experience, Destiny is a game I recommend to everyone looking for a fun shooter experience, and is definitely something Bungie should be proud of.

    See you Starside, Guardians.

Then you play it. Credit where credit's due, the gun play is pretty good but the game is aggressively boring with as many short cuts taken as possible.

Destiny is desperate to be an MMO, with a single social hub and market along with several planets, each with one location you'll grind across multiple times through what passes for story. Very little is explained beyond 'darkness is coming and you must shoot the dudes who make up the darkness, we think' unless you feel like reading the glossary, but the game did such a bad job of engaging me I couldn't be bothered. Dinklage seemingly doesn't care either and the fact his character, a little robot called a 'ghost' that somehow resurrected your character thousands of years after he/she/it died but can't help you if you're in a shaded tunnel, gets worked up about potentially finding something brilliant on Earth before dropping the whole plot line and forcing you to go to the next planet without a reason, likely as I wasn't high enough level for the 'explosive conclusion', if that's what's left of Bungie under Activision's control thinks sending in waves of generic enemies is, makes me wonder if they have any idea how stories are supposed to progress

I always felt City of Heroes spoilt me for MMO story telling and general awesomeness, but Destiny is poor by both MMO's current standards and shooter standards as the MMO troupes it has to have wear what's good about Destiny down. The PvP combat could be fine, mind, but I had no urge to try it as the rest of the game just bored me. Do yourselves a favour and either play Wolfenstien: The New Order instead

What is even worse is for a game that is multiplayer and an MMO there is absolutely no multipllayer aspect that is enjoyable.. The way in which to communicate with other players is non existent. I don't know if people just don't use their mics, don't know how to use their mics, or if there is no support without party chat. The Xbox One also makes things worse for MMO's if you want to call it that, because there is no multitasking without a very delayed opening of another window that takes you away from the game. Finding players is difficult and no in game application to do it. Back to the complaint about the story. We were basically sold an epic prologue only in these grinding of missions that end and send you back to orbit. There is no progression through a level or even proceeding to the next quest. Its just jump into a story arc get kicked back out to main screen. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Story: There just isn't any. Anything in the game is just a. Quick run through this while your ghost trips an alarm. You'll fight 3 to 4 waves of enemies only for the Ghost to trip more alarms and make you do the same thing. There is no variation at all. The missions are over with it just being a kill as many waves of enemies as you can and hope you can progress enough or get a drop worth a dam. Very limited cut scenes or even character development. I mean they didn't even try! Maybe they didn't have to to explain why they didn't have time to develop characters?

RAIDS: There is no matchmaking like STO or other MMO's and for the ones that lack it. I can at least go to a chat option and try to pug it myself. NOT HERE. This I have to go to the Forums and sometimes am spending hours just trying to do a run through.

GEAR: Gear is a Casino style pull the lever and see if you get lucky. When you do happen to get lucky its just stuff your recycling anyway hoping you can get enough plating or wire to upgrade some gear. It comes painfull slow until you have fully geared something. Then its just play the crucible or events until you have so much of it you don't know what to do with it.

MARKETS/AUCTION HOUSE: Most of the people that hang around the tower have useless items unless we are talking about ZUR. But considering some missions need him. You could be playing the waiting game just to progress through what should be a main story arc. The glimmer is painful to earn at times and you only seem to bank it when your just playing waiting for your weekly resets of a raid/ crucible marks etc. There is absolutely no economy

MISSIONS: First of all missions or quests are actually bounties and there really should be a separation of these and you're also extremely limited at what you can carry being ten. So Missions, Crucible, etc. Even though they upped it, it still seems lacking.

TERRITORY: Out of entire planets you spend most of your time rehashing the same landscapes forward or reverse. Not unlike other MMO's the area is extremely small and even the expansions just rehash old territories. A lot of missions are spent going through the exact same area with no difference other than the Ghost activating different doors. Shortly after the mission is over.

DAY ONE EXPANSIONS: Wish I read that more carefully before I bought them. I thought I was getting a day one special pre-order exclusive like you used to in the old days of gaming. NOPE! Just expansions that wouldn't be released for months after initial release. This just proves these things were originally in the game and taken out to be sold at a later date.

The game looks great, but there is just a shell here of what this game could be. I can't see spending 10 years playing a game that is essentially a grind. Level progression is not well thought out and neither are drops or market places. Raiding can be a giant waste of time just trying to get a group together on the forums. The game is essentially a DLC trap and not worthy of an MMO title. Borderlands is more worthy than this game because it had a dam story. MMO's are HUGE and have literally hours and hours of story that is in game NOT IN A GRIMORE CARD. For the 500 million spent on this game I want to know where all that money went?

The game literally seems like there was a lot more too it that they systematically went through and took out. I mean literally just capped off certain areas and just took characters out of the game. They didn't even try to hide it. There are just empty areas and kiosks in cities and all the areas you go. It is really sad and if this is the "New way" of gaming and telling stories. Buying chapter by chapter or Page by page in Destiny's case I am all set.

Let me start by saying I have put 238 hours into this game, done everything it has to offer, and obtained 37/41 achievements.

It's a terrible game in most respects. Don't buy into the hype.

The gunplay mechanics are pretty solid, but you can only have so much fun killing hordes of the same enemies over and over again.

The story is nearly nonexistent, what little there is is convulted and full of jargon. Most of the lore of the universe is told via unlockable grimoire cards, which can only be accessed by visiting bungie's website. Lack of story makes immersion impossible, meaning you'll be all too aware of how terrible the game is.

Story missions consist mostly of your AI companion taking exactly 3 waves of enemies to unlock a door or hack a computer. The AI, your "ghost", is voiced by Peter Dinklage. ...Except imagine if Dinklage downed an entire bottle of valium and was being held hostage by Bungie. He sounds about as bored as you'll be doing the same strikes and missions over and over again. "That wizard came from the moon." Yeah, I'd probably down an entire bottle of valium too if I my script was like that.

The multiplayer, Crucible, is clearly half-assed. You use your same character from Player vs Environment, which obviously creates balance issues. There's only a handful of maps, meaning you'll likely get the same one 3 times in a row. Two of the maps are clearly too big for 6v6.
The flag placement in the control gametype (essentially domination from COD) is unbalanced.
Rewards for this gametype are random. Somebody who joins the game at the last second on the losing team has as much a chance at an exotic weapon as someone who backpacks their team to victory. There is no incentive to try. Stats can only be accessed through bungie.net. You'll have more fun running your teammates over with vehicles than actually playing the game, and you'll probably get rewarded for it anyway.

Furthermore, Bungie has been doing some patching, but not to fix the issues everyone is complaining about. Instead they decide to get rid of the "loot cave," an area where players would sit for hours on end, farming for drops. I found it too boring to partake in, but it was sort of like a casino game for players who had exhausted everything there was to do in a day. They also nerfed weapons that didn't need it (auto rifles), and completely ignored weapons that did (fusion rifles) for PvP. Except the nerfing also applies to PvE, because there aren't separate stats.

There's also no proximity chat, fireteam chat, or multiplayer chat. Apparently they're changing this soon, but this should have been something implemented from the beginning. The extent of your communication with players, unless you're in a party, will be the 4 emotes you have available. For a "shared-world shooter," it's pretty damn lonely.

Best thing I can say about this game is it brought me closer with my friends due to our mutual hatred for it. Oh, and it's kind of pretty.

Overall, this game earns a potato/10.

Good aesthetics. And the fundamentals are all superb. Where this game lacks is in the fun department. Its just so sterile, and bland. I was literally bored to tears repeating the same activities over and over. The game should be titled Snooze fest 2014 or Halolands. Also the 30fps is absolute garbage for crucible.

    Will not continue to play.

Destiny to me, hits more highs than it does low.
I must admit the game is nothing spectacular, but I think people need to understand this is a new approach Bungie have taken making it a FPS RPG.

A lot of this is due to my previous experience with RPG's so it could seem biased.

    Pros:
    + Loot system. Randomized rewards
+ Environment. It makes you feel immersed and isolated. Mentally, you're on your own.
+ Limited communication. Whereas others hate this, I like it. A game like this doesn't need little kids spamming the mic. It would ruin the isolating feel of the game.
+ Incredibly smart AI. With modifiers, some of the smartest I have seen in a video game.
+ Music. Very melodic and sets a good mixture of moods. I love fight the Archon Priest simply because of the soundtrack during it.
+ Content. What it has to offer brings me in to play just that one more Strike. Then just one more after that lol..
+ Raids. Who would have thought that a console Exclusive goes to the extremities of putting raids? This was also a good addition and very challenging.

    Cons:
    - Repetition. Missions themselves are very similar to eachother. The Strike Playlist can cue you up with the exact same one right after. A lot more of them need to be added.
    - Crucible. Very unbalanced. People seem to run around and 1 shot people too easily. (hunter class especially) that super power needs to be nerfed. (yes I am another complainer about hunter)
    - Unfinished. Bungie seem to like bringing out new content due to feedback. This can be good for more variety, but its disturbing to know that on release, it could of been planned to be a finished game until the mixed feedback came about.
    - Story. Very vague and at times doesn't explain too much of what is happening.

    Mutual:
+- Bosses. Usually bullet sponges and doesn't leave you thinking creative. Yet you will get those moments where they will wreck you, forcing you to start thinking a bit more which makes them more intense and exciting to fight.

Overall it is a decent game, but nothing very memorable. It is evident that they are trying to push a series here, but they will have to pull a wildcard for it to be ground breaking in the future.
If you're a fan of RPG's you will probably like it, but be taking what could be better in mind.
Just dont expect it to be like Halo just because its made by Bungie. The only thing similar to Halo, is that its a shooter. Nothing else.

The updated events are great, but again just require you to grind more PvP, more Patrols, more Strikes yaddayaddayadda!

I'm not sure what I expected from an MMO / FPS Shooter.
    1) The story is short and a bland - that's okay its an FPS Shooter we expect that.
    2) There is a lot of grinding to get new gear - that's okay its an MMO
    3) You can't talk to strangers in game - Why not? I thought this was a freakin MMO?
    4) There is no LFG grouping system for raids - Seriously?
    5) Voice chat is run through your xbox and not in-game - Wha? Why?
    6) There is a LOT of repetition - urrrrgh

Its like they took all the bad things from their retrospective genres and put them into one game. I can only give this game a very generous 7!

That said, I am still enjoying Destiny, but it was massively over hyped and will probably be traded when a better multi-player experience comes out - Halo 5 anyone?

In this GOD FORSAKEN game. The full game was no more than an addon to the beta. I had more fun in the beta for 4 days than I did in the full game. I waited the best of 18 months for Destiny. For another game by the creators of Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo 2. Halo 3. Even Halo REACH. I wanted another revolutionary game but all I got was space Borderlands for causal gamers. I am not going to accept this. Destiny's mediocrity will forever live on. Rumors have been spread about a game that, once in it's life span, was a game with an interesting story about the Traveler being the spawn of the darkness. This isn't a spoiler because it ISN'T in the game. Can you even spoil this game? I don't think so. Everything you know about the game you could get from the synopsis. The stupid light level system doesn't make an INCH of sense to me. How does it even FREAKING WORK? You're telling me I have to trade my 208 defense armour for a worse piece of armour at 178 defense and it has a light level OF 2? FRICKING 2? Destiny wasn't just overhyped, it was lied about. "This isn't just a skybox, it's a whole world you can explore." WHAT HAPPENED? How can a game, with a budget of $500 MILLION dollars be so small and so lacking in content? On the Xbox One and PS4, it runs at 30 fps because it was "a cross gen game." Battlefield 4 was a cross gen game, and on the next-gen systems, it easily ran at 60 fps. Halo: The Master Chief Collection has 4 games of varying age and they all run at 60 fps, 1080p. This game is a massive slap to the face to all Halo fans and gamers all around. I will say, I had fun when I FIRST played the game with friends, but playing the same strike mission for the fiftieth time with no special reward for doing so is a disgrace. The Crucible is full of people who have clearly gotten too good at the game, while I don't pick up the game for 3 months, and because I bought the limited edition, a huge mistake, I was actually kind of EAGER to try the Dark Below. But guess what? Because I didn't want to PLAY the game, that also meant I couldn't PLAY the new content. And I don't even want to THINK about House of Wolves.

Overall, I'm SICK of hearing about Destiny, and I am very, very, VERY disappointed in the game that has been given to us. We were promised so much more, and it was not delivered. The more I think about Destiny, the more things I see that are wrong with it. I just wanted more from Bungie, but they screwed up. You left Mircrosoft and you became Activision's. What was the point of that?

I don't think I've ever given a game something as low as a 3/10, but I'm going to give Destiny a 3/10, because it's that special. Boring gameplay, boring story. Ok gameplay but gets drowned out because of everything else. Destiny 2 better be the most magnificent thing to ever hit this Earth, otherwise, it's staying off of my shelf. A 10-year contract? Please.

The gameplay is excellent. The controls feel fluid and everything is easy to control. I particularly enjoy the instant feedback on whether your shots are precision hits or not. I've been playing as a warlock and using the force melee is one of life's simple pleasures. The special abilities (for any class) are a lot of fun as well. I never felt bored while playing because the game makes it very satisfying to blow off a fallen's head and watch their soul escape.

The enemies are also varied. I particularly enjoyed fighting the Vex. That was a nice change from the headshot oriented battles of every other game, and their ability to teleport forced me to change up my usual strategy. The only issues I had were with the AI. All enemies were fairly bland, and for the most part don't really seem like they are actively trying to hunt you down and kill you. At the very least, it's hard to believe that these are the guys who wiped out humanity.

I'm torn on the boss fights in particular. Most are very fun (the level with the sword...hell yeah!) but often are just souped up versions of their lesser minions with no personality. It would be nice to have a villian that you can learn to hate before you kill them, not just put a name above their head and make them big.

Story is...bland. That being said, I'm a sucker for a good fantasy story, so I was still drawn into it. Still, claiming you are a guardian who wields light and fights darkness doesn't add a sense of urgency to the game. It just makes you picture an enemy that you can't see. I also wish the level were more varied, but that's the general problem with most shooters these days, so I don't fault Bungie for that.

I didn't have a problem with Peter Dinklage like most people did. The final version has some improved delivery on some of the cornier lines, and the robotic effect makes it seem a little more real. That being said, his only role is exposition. The ghost doesn't really have much personality, and mostly comes across as a dictionary (hack anything. You'll see). And, for a character that serves to explain the plot, you'd think he could fill you in on a lot more of what actually happened.

I liked the guns and the ability to upgrade armor and weapons. It made me actively look for weapons that had some kind of bonus, and it adds a nice touch to the gameplay. I loved using the heavy machine guns. The ammo is pretty balanced so you never feel overpowered, but still have enough to cause problems for everyone else.

I think the tower was a nice touch. I like having a social center in the middle of the game, and it helped me organize things better. I wish that you could fast travel there without having to go to orbit first. In fact, the whole travel system is hugely annoying. The loading screens take FOREVER and you always have to go to orbit first. Plus, no mini map? Really?

There haven't been too many issues with bugs. Yesterday I was trying to beat the Devil's Lair strike, and once we finally got to the final boss battle, the server crashed and I got booted. Pretty disappointing. But, it's only happened once, so I'm not too torn up about it.

Overall, a beautiful, well crafted game. Not a bad first entry for a game of this type. Bungie needs to work out some of the finer details, because there is definitely room for improvement. On the whole though, Destiny is an excellent game that you want to come back to.

The entire solar system feels smaller than the city of Washington DC in Fallout 3.

The multiplayer is the most punishing multiplayer game I've ever played. Where in most games I find myself often with a 2-3 Kill/Death ratio Destiny regularly rewards me with a 0.2 to 0.3 KD. I saw a poor soul yesterday who finished a full round with a 0.09 K/D. While supposedly the developers somewhat normalize weapon and class stats--level skill bonuses do seem to come into play as do abilities. The result is that higher level players will often completely dominate even talented low level players.

The game mechanics are also badly tuned for balance. There are more 1 hit kills than in any game I've ever played. Most firefights last less than 2-3 seconds which eliminates a lot of potential for tactical movement and teamwork. Unlike most games which have found a good balance between powerups and regular match stats, Destiny is all or nothing. You either have a weapon of incomprehensible strength or you have a pee shooter. Once someone has used their charged super power/skill it's best to just run and hide--you'll almost certainly die. There is a super power where periodically someone can simply jump into the middle of some enemies and everyone nearby will die. In a game with lots of close quarters combat that means someone appears and kills half your team within 1 second. Most matches seem to last 10 minutes or so and when you have 6 people on your team that means about once a minute you are at threat of being instakilled by someone with a fully charged powerup.

There are other frustrating things to mention also. 1) The story is almost none existent and characters you meet are COMPLETELY forgettable. 2) In order to level past lvl 20, you must find and equip gear that boosts your character's level. This results in having to grind endlessly in areas that spawn enemies over and over until you find the gear you need. It's not fun at all. It's just busy work. 3) Raid missions are inaccessible until you reach lvl 25 AND you have 5 other friends in your group to join with you. There is no matchmaking for Raids at all. That is complete **** Locking off modes like that is a huge turnoff for me.
    4) Players that do worse than you in PvP or Strike missions have a higher chance of getting better gear than you at the end results screen (game bug?).

Playing with friends makes the experience incredibly fun, and when we take out that last boss of a difficult strike, our bro-cheers are joyously deafening. The rewards always leave you satisfied with your efforts, but Bungie always conveys that subtle message of, "Okay, you've done that, great job, but can you beat THIS?" I can feel the tension building while gearing up to take on the insane Vault of Glass raid, an extreme teamwork-oriented mission which only the most experienced players can master, and I can't wait to try for that sweet gear at the end of that long, dark, monster-filled tunnel. Even with how much fun there is to have with the current game, there's much more to come. Bungie is activating new events daily, and adding new content monthly, so there's always more to do, even if you're not ready to take on some of the more ludicrous challenges the game offers. Competitive multiplayer is fun, even though stress-enducing competition against better players isn't my favorite experience, and it's cool to see how your new gear fares against other Guardians. Sometimes, however, there's just too much badass stuffed into it. Many, many abilities, as well as secondaries, are one shot kills, and though each class is as overpowered as the last, it can lead to some frustratingly unavoidable deaths. The story is a bit vague on details about the universe, but I'm looking forward to discovering more about the mysterious Traveler and everything that has happened because of it. I know I'll be cheering with my buddies a lot with this IP over the next 10 years. This may not be the expansive universe many seemed to be expecting, which is in part why this rating is not a 9 or 10, but that won't be the case for long. The game's current state could be equated to a stage of infancy, but content will grow with the developers, who alway keep their ears to the ground for fan feedback. If you sold your game already, I pity you. This joyride is far from over, and if you're looking for fun, you've found it. Expand

Enemies hide behind stuff, then pop out and stand there so you can shoot them. I'm not the first to say that every mission is the same, go hear, and play what is essentially a horde mode level for a few minutes while the dinklebot downloads some meaningless plot point. Then waste time going back to a hub to find out if you got anything useful (most likely not) or garbage that is not as good as what you already have. That's the entire game. Oh, and grinding. Lots and lots of grinding. I can't remember being this disappointed and bored with a game. Expand

The story mode is simplistic and leaves you feeling flat. Basically, kill aliens, get to a certain spot, hold x, hold the position by killing more aliens, repeat and repeat. Bounties are the only side quests available and, since you already beat the story mode, once again just kill, collect, get to certain area etc. The multi-player matchmaking is horrible. There is no perfectly fair mode yet (for all levels) and apparently with the new patches these end up nerfing weapons that you work hard on. I beat the game in about 3 days. My rating reflects the lies, constant neglect and customer appreciation that Bungie has towards it's players and fans. The game gets boring as soon as you beat the game which can be done in 8 hours or less. Also the story is awful. I would give a higher rating for graphics, music and game play. Though that would telling Bungie they did a good thing.

Slowly, we all began to realize that the upgrade system as well as the currency system was flawed and severely dysfunctional. Several patches, changes, and introductions of even more currencies began to form into an even more severely broken system. The nail in the coffin for me was the first DLC...it introduced a new beautiful raid, a couple of new playable levels (1-2 hours of play time) and even MORE currencies that immediately rendered the previously "best" armor/weapons in the game useless and readily available to everyone. SO... if you like to feel like a hamster on a wheel constantly running to try and keep up with the "best" and most competitive weapons and armor in the game...Destiny is a good choice. Expand

It's a fine game though by no means unflawed. Many of those who are enjoying it are convinced all the zero scores are trolling, but really that's having an equally blinkered view as the zero scorers themselves.

For the sake of trying to find some balance, let's tackle the main hate points:

    "Story is garbage"
Depending on your expectations, probably a legitimate point. One-dimensional, lacking any strong characters and generally an absolute bare-bones affair. If this is where you get enjoyment from games then it's going to fall very short. Coming from the bungie stable, you can see where criticism is coming from as it's certainly no halo in this respect.

"Missions are mindless & repetitive go-to-X,kill-Y/collect-Z"
Again probably true in the main. But then again what else exactly is expected from a shooter/collect-em-up here? Are players expecting an on-rails cinematic rollercoaster full of sudden twists? It's not that type of game; the architecture is entirely contrary to it. Anyway the main trouble on this point is that it's made all the more glaring by the above one - there's no strong plot or dialogue to distract the player from the fact that they're essentially repeating similar tasks in any given mission, which is how most games of this ilk tackle the issue.

"Gameplay / gunplay / ai is horrible & boring"
I think many of the haters are missing a fundamental mechanic here, at least concerning the story missions (which bungie haven't done a good job of calling out themselves) - and that's choosing the appropriate difficulty. The game's normal difficulty is aimed squarely at 'casual' play - it's balanced to let you run & gun through pretty much every scenario thrown at you. If you're in any way competent at shooters but leave the difficulty on normal, then yes you'll probably find the gameplay highly dull because when you can kill everything but a boss in seconds flat, you're not going to have any interactions that expose you to subtlety in ai or the need to react to different battle conditions! So if I could give one tip to maximise enjoyment of this game, it would be to play on hard mode at all times, it makes for an infinitely more enjoyable experience. If it seems too hard, stick with it, the effort pays off once you get to grips with it.

    "Horrid graphics"
I don't really want to touch this one. Sure it's not the most stunning looking game ever in either design or execution, but for those waving fingers on things like 30fps to cite zero scores on games, sorry but if 30fps/60fps defines whether or not you can enjoy a game, you're a brain donor (or should be). Of course you're entitled to your opinion :)

"All the guns are the same"
People complaining about this most likely aren't experienced playing morpg's to know what they're talking about. You don't expect to find outlandish loot on day one of play! Wading through the junk till you find the good rares is the tried & tested format of the genre, in the meantime I guess it means more zero scores from those new to it.

    "Pvp is unbalanced"
Mostly an artefact of the character customisation but sadly true right now. Hopefully will be improved with later updates.

"Not one original concept seen in the game"
I'd have to agree with this, but again what are the expectations? It doesn't feel like bungie set out to break new ground with this game, rather they wanted to bring a number of tried & true concepts together.

Which brings me to my last point. Are so many people mad because they were didn't get what the hypetrain promised? Were they by any chance told they were getting something revolutionary & never seen before, yet again? If that's the case then I'm afraid for every AAA game with a big marketing budget, this cycle of butthurt & rage is going to continue indefinitely. It was the same with titanfall! We were promised the next quantum leap in fps gameplay, what we got was a hybrid of cod & battlefront but with only one vehicle type, and not one original mechanic in sight.

So in summary I actually agree with a lot if not most of the criticism. So why the 8 score? Because none of this ultimately detracts from how much fun this game is assuming you don't play in easy mode. Sure it's imperfect but the gameplay, for as long as it challenges, is fantastic, especially when playing with friends.

Poor story, a few strikes, and some multiplayer. After that, the game "beginning" is an uninteresting grind fest the likes of which will make you want to take the disc and put it in the nearest microwave. The customization in this game is bland, the weapons are bland, the armor is bland... The whole thing is just... Bland! I never entered this franchise with hype, in fact.. I entered with skepticism once I discovered the massive portion of the budget that went on marketing. What the hell was Bungie doing? There must have been some BIG changes when they merged into Activision's platform, because this game is nothing short of a joke. It brings to mind another incomplete game, released as more of a tech demo than game: Rage. Remember that joke of a game? Yeah, well think similar, only they briefly expanded it. A month later, they release a raid, The Vault of Glass. The difficulty requires you to grind outrageously, there is no matchmaking for it, and it is insanely difficult. Dark Souls difficult. If this game was aiming for "most sadistic game of the year", it definitely would hit the mark dead-on. The add-in content for this game, released weeks after has been nothing short of a slap in the face on top of the $60 hole in the pocketbook. So, Bungie, if your aim with your new identity, or lack thereof, is to enrage gamers and create the most controversial game of the decade, congratulations, you've succeed. As for this game, I could never recommend it to someone who I know. It will take your money, it will take your time, and when you're passed out drunk after playing it for hours, it will take a sharpie and draw all over your face just for kicks. Run away. Fast.

One way that it falls short unfortunately is the PvP. There is a considerable amount of lag compensation going on that often ends in hit trades or being shot by someone not even facing you. Not only that, the use of special abilities in PvP is questionable. Sure it's satisfying to one-shot three people at once, but you always feel cheated on the receiving end, and I feel it takes away from the enjoyable aspects of it, they need to be nerfed for PvP or just removed from it entirely. Overall, I think Destiny deserves an 8/10. It would have been higher but the PvP needs tweaking. Expand

So with that being said, I play games for fun..though I am competitive. Through the beta and first few levels of D, to be honest I was kind of bored.

and then I played level 8 story last night. Now, maybe I am getting used to it, maybe I am learning the combo of weapons needed to take down enemy..who knows, who cares.....

Because at level 8 story, playing a 2 man fireteam, the game came alive for some reason. Things were chasing us, guarding our dead body so no one could revive us, dancing around us....It was pretty insane....and I have to tell you, a lot of fun....Then I happened into a friends game on level 9 on Venus....that was even more fun.

So I would say this, especially to the not so good casual gamers. learn your weapons, don't be afraid to use them in combo and play the game like the AI is way smarter than you.....The game starts getting insane and FUN in later levels......

For the first time since the BETA...I can't wait to get on again tonite..... (PS, another hint...play some patrol missions too..and collect ALL the pieces left on the ground after killing people...they hold engrams and weapons and all kinds of stuff..the more you kill, the more you get..)

I wont lie there is a lot of missions where you have to kill and shoot stuff. But lets start using our brains now. Isn't that what most FPS are? You shoot **** in the first person. If you are expecting something else than that with lots of player interaction(not voice of course unless you are in a party with them/One of the games short comings)

The reason why I'm not giving Destiny a higher score is because it did not meet my standards for anything higher than a 8/10(Good not great but still very much enjoyable and a little addicting)
Personally I have never wanted to play Multiplayer(PVP) matches since Halo Reach when it comes to over all fun factor. Don't get me wrong this game fall flat in most PVE elements but PVP it really strikes my fancy.

Now for a lot of peoples comments I have heard about not having private matches and such. I never once played an MMO and was given the option to go into my own private server with my own rules. Remember this is not just a FPS. Not having private matches is a MMO Element.

Some of the short comings to name a few
Voice actors not putting any heart into the character they are portraying.
The writing is few with little to no impact on the players.
Most Characters are just there with no real reason to be besides selling gear.(this might change later on but not likely)
In PVE the AI can get predictable to the point even on higher level they are easy to deal with.
The over all Lore/plot. As Much as I like the idea and I can dig it. The cinematic scenes are few and are not as engaging for the upcoming mission. I often see them as a waste of time(also no skip scene feature)
No Mic communications between player in-game. I really was looking forward to that but at the same time Silents is nice within the tower(safe zone) but in PVP I wish they added in voice communication. Trash Talkers, Helpful warnings of inbound enemy's heading to Point B. All of it. But there isn't.
And for the PVE side. When the battle is intense on a strike mission you wont always hear "Guardian is down" and it be nice to be able to communicate with other players since not all of them want to join your party chat. It be nice to have that option so strategy and helpful tips can be applied to our team mates.
In my personal opinion in-game communication is its biggest short coming/issue/flaw.

But again It can be easily brushed off the shoulder on the fact on how addicting this game can be. The PVP is fun and the weapons seem balanced by on its stats. Its all about finding the right gun for you and sticking to it. I personally enjoy the hand-cannon and most don't because rate of fire and small clips but for a precision shooter it works well just like the scout rifle with less impact.

Strike mission on the PVE side are fun and they become even more fun when you end it with a Legendary item.(rarely happens but its enough to lift your spirits up)
Raids are just now added and I am a bit bummed out you NEED/CAN only play with people you know. No matchmaking for them. . .My opinion terrible decision. Sure you can pick whos good enough to play with but what if you don't have any friends to play with and the lack of Voice communication in game makes it Difficult to build a group for one. You would be force to go to your local Forum and Plead for raiding buddys that doesn't always pull through. So I see it as Content that should be fun but most likely wont be because of the amount of interaction you need when the game does make it difficult to do so.

I would recommend to play it because you judge it and play everything. If you feel its easy than please take it off easy and push that difficulty to hard. The game will make you work hard to earn your stuff and play even harder to achieve your goals. I found majority challenging until of recent but that is because of my experience in how to handle fights and my over all equipment. Before how ever it was a climb.

Gotta give this an 8/10 Can't ignore the flaws in the game but the fact it has keep me playing after so many hours put into it and its fun. In reality the only factor that matters. Is it fun to play or not?

If you nit pick why you SHOULDN'T like a game than yeah you will never have fun with it but if you just sit down and enjoy playing it no matter what it is than that is all that should matter. This game nails it for me on that.

    So why the low(ish) score?

First off, there is next to no story. And this is jolting, because there is a LOT happening in the background. Unique races, some giant sphere called The Traveller, Earth is destroyed...none of this is explained beyond vague secondary conversations. There is zero lore. You can speak to no one except for the rare story cutscene.

You're awakened and it is said you were presumed dead...and that's all they say about that. I couldn't shake the feeling that they had big plans for a rich story and dropped it in order to make the release date (or budget). It's always the same:

    "Fight these enemies on Earth!"
    "Why? Who are they?"

"Fight these enemies on the Moon!"
    "...okay, well who are they?"

    "Fight these enemies on Venus!"
"Seriously...who am I killing and why?"

The entire game could have ended with a plot twist that Ghost was leading me to kill innocent aliens to end the universe and I would have thought "you know...that kind of makes sense."

Just as offensive is the terrible mission layout. You go somewhere, Tyrion Lannister the Robot needs time to hack a computer, and you fight 2-3 waves of enemies until he opens it (always coincidentally when you've killed the last enemy). Mission ends after you defeat a bullet sponge (no strategy at all. Run, get in some shots, run, get in some shots...)

Once you're done with the story, there's little to do outside of patrol or replay strike missions (over and over).

I did not dock points for the multiplayer, as I am 100% aware it is something most people will enjoy. To me, it's too little strategy and all jumping and shooting. Having to drain someone's shields to get a kill is exhausting and ultimately not very rewarding in my opinion.

While I was entertained by this game, I truly was disappointed in the end. With an MMO, you expect the story to be less than stellar, but this story was nearly removed from the game altogether. The multiplayer is nothing special, especially considering I can't use any of the abilities I got from playing the game.

Ultimately, as it stands, this is a short-term fun game that is saved by shooting mechanics and good company (though that's limited by a lack of match making).

So where does it land? (Avoid, Borrow, Own) I would have to say....

Borrow. You may end up liking it enough to buy, but at this stage if I had known what I do now, I would not have purchased this game.

Too bad, any and every unique feeling weapon will be nerfed to balance pvp, essentially making every exotic weapon a visual reskin only.

Were you hoping to find unique epic armor that told "your story", too bad the best gear is raid gear and the sets look identical across each class. Meaning every warlock, titan and hunter effectively look exactly the same minus whichever exotic piece they chose.

Things that this game should of released with but for whatever reason did not:
Open world voice chat based on proximity in patrol areas and the tower
transmogrify system allowing you to customize your appearance separate from gear stats.
Separated balancing between pve and pvp allowing weapons to feel epic and awesome in pve while maintaining the balance sought after in pvp.
"events" like queens wrath should have at least several truly unique missions tied to them, not reskinned bounty icons with a vendor that sells "rare" quality items, at the very least offer exotic rewards.
Bring back the ability to dismantle event specific legendary gear for shards so that players have a reason to repeat missions more than 1 time.

Outrage from customers simply resulted in an apology from Bungie but that was it. There have been multiple patches and updates to try and fix the connection issues but the online aspect simply just does not work correctly.

I gave this company 4 months to get their stuff together and the connection issues are worse than ever before. I spent 5 hours on the phone with XBox customer support to try and resolve anything that could be causing issues on my end. After port forwarding, resolving DNS issues, replacing a modem, uninstalling and reinstalling my gamertag and profile, and doing a system restore to reinstall the game and it's components, it still doesn't work as intended. I posted a plea for help on the their forums because they don't have a customer hotline and was met with nothing. I have never in my life been so disappointed with a game. In keeping with cliches, I can't even be lazy properly because the game is broken in every way and I literally can't even play it.

I just received a refund from xbox live for the expansion back that doesn't work.

Do not buy this game. The trouble is not worth the money.

The game has a lot of Halo like the needle like weapons the enemy has but you don't get to enjoy them because the enemy does not drop weapons. You get the occasional and very seldom loot. So i totally get the low reviews, although it does not deserve a zero for sure, in my opinion the game does not deserve anything higher that 7. Technically is good but at this point in the development of games is lacking a lot. Extra note: this is not an MMO, it is just a regular coop game where some times you get to see no more than 4 players in your missions instances, clearly not massive at all. Expand

Graphics are good, but the gameplay is terrible. It's a bad shooter/MMO/Strategy game all rolled into one game. My game is up for sale on EBay after just 2 days.

The story mode is boring, the PvP mode is too simple and the classes all feel the game.

    Pros:

    -Excellent graphics
    -Smooth and polished user interface
-Cool artstyle and music, design of the enemies and player gear is great
    -Good MP map design
-Cool movement options with double, triple jump
-Character customization with skill trees and various abilities via subclasses are fun and addicting
-MMO like environment in a FPS
-Tower is a great location with many vendors and really feels alive
-Excellent stats online both on website and app

    Cons:
-No ingame voice chat in a social game like this is inexcusable
-Although the setting is cool the story and enemies and faction are never really explained and almost no information can be gathered in game (see below) even if you seek out for it, so the story is sadly very forgettable.
-Most objectives in the Singleplayer are the same.
-Very great part of the story and lore are not in game but in an app or on Bungie website via "Grimoire cards". Why?
-Random unsatisfying loot drops, repetitive farming for better gear as opposed to loot drops from bosses as reward
-Subpar AI design, Halo CE by the same developer had better AI, they've done it before, why not build onto that->
-PVE difficulty achieved by buffing enemy health to ridiculous levels (especially bosses) as opposed to smart behavior
-ADS galore, doesn't work with the great movement options, you can jump around but not shoot while moving, so counterintuitive and makes gameplay boring IMO. Can't run and run.
-Random spread and stupid recoil to limit the players ability to land accurate shots. In contrast: Heavy aim assist so there is little skill in shooting (especially Heavy Weapons and Super Charge Abilities are to easy to kill someone with). Why do developers thing randomness is fun. It's not.
-Unbalanced and random PVP with frustrating insta kill abilities that should not be in a "competitive" environment as Bungie calls it (Before you say I suck, I'm usually not at the receiving end of these abilities, look up GT: voi7e)

Bungie has stolen the best ideas and mechanics from some amazing games; Halo, Borderlands, WOW, Guild Wars 2, Mass Effect etc etc. The problem is they've "borrowed" these ideas, mashed them together and completely failed at all of them. The loot system sucks which makes the grinding totally unrewarding. Diablo 3 nailed the grind for loot mechanic as did

The loot system sucks which makes the grinding totally unrewarding. Diablo 3 nailed the grind for loot mechanic as did Borderlands but this is just dull loot that ads a point or two more armour and maybe a small perk like more ammo capacity.... Yawn!
The shooting mechanic is good, feels smooth and precise so that's a plus. However, all you're shooting at is the same dudes with ever increasing hit points. Wait around for more bad guys to spawn and shoot them, rinse and repeat.
This game was advertised as an MMO and on back do the box it says 1-12 players. Imagine then my disappointment when me and three mates booted up the game for the first time, played the tutorial level, met up in the Tower, had a dance, got bored and thought lets do a mission. Proceeded to mission screen only to discover you can only play with a team of three! Seriously... W.T.F??? This is Bungie's idea of an MMO? So the MMO aspect is that you can stand in a bland boring town and point at each other or sit on the ground. Oh also you can dance you say? Wow, just wow...
To clarify my progress in the game so far; I'm Level 8, put maybe 10 hours into it, done all the Earth missions and some Crucible multiplayer (will stick to Titanfall). After all this I've come to the conclusion that Bungie has created the most expensive polished turd in the history of video games.
3/10 for nice graphics and smooth game engine. Pity about everything else the game has to offer...

In Destiny we're given a paltry four locations to discover, with missions that consist of go to a location, have your 'ghost' friend fix something while you fight of hordes of enemies and then come up against a boss at the end of the level with absurd amounts of health.

There are positives in the game - the shooting mechanics are solid, sometimes fun but mostly monotonous and of course the planets you discover look great. The AI are very good as well, using shields and cover intelligently enough to make the game a genuine challenge at higher levels.

The best thing about the game, however is the music - it creates a superb atmosphere and builds tension nicely during boss fights.

Unfortunately though, that's where the good ends. The repetition in this game is completely unacceptable - four decently sized areas is not enough to cover a game, and with the power developers now have at their disposal it's lazy and seems like there will be bucketloads of DLC for customers to spend their hard earned cash on.

Once you've finished the game, the only realistic option to further your progress is to replay the boss fights, but considering there are only four of them you can imagine this gets boring quickly.

The weapons all feel the same and armor barely even makes any sort of cosmetic change to one's character, even though there are three sub classes and hundreds of bits of armor in the game everyone looks the same (color excluded).

I know the story is tacked on and not important, but they could have given it more thought and imagination. It has to be congratulated for taking one of the most talented and recognizable voice actors at present and making him sound like a generic, uninterested voice. I genuinely had no idea ghost was Peter Dinklage until I read it after completing the game.

PvP is okay, but nothing special. Higher level players gain too much of an advantage and weapons do too much damage - you can't have epic firefights when guardians are dead within a couple of shots. Map design is again just okay, and I can't say I like knowing exactly where enemies are all the time from the radar - if they're not firing they should not appear on there.

Overall, Destiny is a massive disappointment - it will almost certainly improve with added DLC but I won't be around to purchase it. It seems to be a common trend for games these days to provide a bare bones games and then add to it with DLC and/or microtransactions (yes I'm looking at you EA). I hope Destiny fails, as it represents a lot of what's wrong with gaming at the moment, I don't like being part of this next generation.

The story quests and raids can be fun and challenging, but there isn't that many to keep you entertained more than a few weeks. Even though there is dlc in the works for an additional cost, as a $60 game the story line is extremely short and not very engaging.Playing casually for four days I hit the end of the story line and reached the soft cap of max level 20 (you can go higher for better gear with a special stat).

But, the game really loses it's lackluster in PVP. Since you will most likely hit the end of the story and get close to max level in a few days, you'll be looking to PVP for most of your replay value other than replaying story missions or raids for better gear. The whole experience feels very bare bone minimum. You have three game types: Capture the Flag, Team Death Match, and Free for all. Players start off with their primary weapons and need to scrounge ammo that spawns at random for 2ndary and 3rd weapon slots. Movement mechanics feel unusually rigid; at times I can sprint continuously, at other times my character won't run at all with no meter or warning to indicate why. Abilities can shoot through walls and more often than not, I notice small delays in damage or kills registering.

Aside from the glitches, even the PVP design is just "ok". All classes are arguably balanced due to all weapons being accessible in every class. But, you'll find most people using the 2ndary weapons frequently for easy kills due to high drop rates of 2ndary ammo. There is vehicles in some of the matches, but they feel clunky and are easy to kill making them more of a gimmick.

With such a short story line and basic pvp, Destiny leaves both pve and pvp players disappointed with only an average delivery across the board.

There's one side mission about collecting data from fallen enemies... The trick to that, find a spawning area on a map that's constantly used via Earth, Mars, or Venus. Kill those enemies then run out of the area about a hundred yards and return to, and surprise! The enemies have ALL respawned.

The price of this game should've been $29, because this is more arcade, then a full gaming experience.

I even gave Bungie the benefit of the doubt due to the lack of reviews upon release. I won't do that again.

If a game doesn't have a Metacritic rating at launch by the people (Game Informer, XBOX Magazine, or IGN), who are suppose to "Review" them for the consumer....DON'T BUY IT.

Even the maps are repetitive; after two missions you will notice the same rooms and layouts everywhere. There are basically only four guns in the game (sniper, assault, heavy weapon, shotgun). There is no option to customize them--they are all the same and feel exactly the same. Also, for a game that was supposedly meant to be played in teams, Bungie crippled it by killing proximity chat or even multiplayer chat among the same team members -- they made it more difficult to team up with people, instead of the reverse. The "strike" missions involve standing in one place and shooting at a huge monster for about fifteen minutes straight; there's no strategy. And why do they have different spaceships? Changing your ship has no effect whatsoever on the game -- it's simply what you see on the loading screen. They have different kinds of companion computers ("ghosts") available for you to buy, but even though the descriptions say they have different capabilities, they are exactly the same and do nothing different from one another. The Tower, home base, is tiny; it has three areas to "explore" except that in three minutes you've seen everything there is to see. There are no real interactions with NPCs -- they just stand there and you get things from them. The stupidest thing is this game (and there are many) is that you periodically have to go the "post office" (big exclamation point hovering over it) to get messages that you should see an NPC who sits about five yards away from the post office. Why didn't the designers simply have you go directly to the NPC? What was the point of this? It is mind boggling that it took them so long to come up with a game world that seems so stunted and tiny. You have the option to get "more details" for missions and when you select that, there are no details--the screen just tells you what it just told you about the mission and nothing more. There is a level cap of 20, and there is absolutely nothing to do except grind and grind after you reach it. Please do yourself a favor and don't spend your hard earned money on this. Expand

That about sums it up. Bungie creates a beautiful game engine with striking vistas. They then stick you in repetitive maps over and over again. Bungie creates a deep personalization system for your class allowing for a variety of choices. Then you have the same 8 weapons over and over with similar skills as the guy next to you. A punch is a punch even if you dress it up in glitter and call it a spell.

Bottom line is that its a huge and encompassing game with a very narrow audience. If you like playing a specific shooter with your friend for months on end every day then this may be for you. If you have a life and want a casual game with a gripping story and new and exciting game play, wait for something better.

The AI is pretty intelligent ex: taking cover and trying to flank you not just standing and waiting to get shot. I have yet to play with someone as it feels more like everyone is doing there own thing rather then this massive multi player interactive game. The crucible where you play against other players is not that fun at all especially if you are starting out as you will get killed all the time from higher lvl players. The leveling is pretty cool and basic. Overall it is pretty fun to play with some of the best elements from halo and COD, but not some crazy unique experience they seemed to be promising. If you played HALO or COD you def have a feel for the game. If they greatly increased the look and feel of every individual mission on the planet it could have been a big winner. Expand

Let's all be honest, Destiny is neither a zero nor a perfect 10. With GTA 3, Mario 64, or Uncharted 2 (in their day of course) being 10's and ET for Atari 2600, Leisure Suit Larry, and Fighter Within being zeroes, Destiny is a solid 7 overall, maybe an 8 if you ever heard "Leroy Jenkins!" in your headset.

Activision spent a half-Billion on this, so clearly there's plenty of polish.

Activision spent a half-Billion on this, so clearly there's plenty of polish. Undeniably it has excellent control mechanics, smooth gameplay, powerful visuals, and Peter Dinklage, so it's certainly better than average.

But a 10? Come on people, spit out the Kool-Aid. I actually enjoyed Titanfall, so clearly I don't need a story to enjoy a game. But this was not only Bungie, it was Bungie unshackled from Micro$oft for Traveler's sake! Every gamer with a triple-digit IQ was expecting a magnum opus, an epic as powerful as Star Wars to a 7-year-old in 1977 that still goes to Comic-Con dressed as Boba Fett. Instead we got Phantom Menace. WTF Bungie!? You broke hearts. That's where all those zero ratings are coming from.

Destiny is a multi-platform release without significant exclusives...So those zeroes aren't fanboy trolls; they're tears falling on keyboards imagining what Bungie should have and could have done with the gross national product of a small country.

Again I don't require a story to enjoy a game. But if you're going to include a story, hire an award-winning actor, advertise becoming a "legend" in primetime...did I mention spending $500 Billion with B...for the love of all that's holy add a plot with a twist or two, sprinkle in some character development, write some clever dialogue, put some emotional weight on in-game decisions. Instead Destiny's storyline has the gravitas of a Disney channel Halloween movie! The "Darkness"? Really?

Every game publisher needs to take a clue from Far Cry 3 or Uncharted; grab the audience in the beginning. Make us care about the character we control and understand his motivation. I don't have a problem with the vague "you've been dead for hundreds of years" intro, but within in minutes you're fully armed, grinding through bad guys with ease as extremely atmospheric music tries to make your heart pound. Far Cry 3 & the last Tomb Raider did a wonderful job of making you feel so vulnerable in the beginning and paced the power-ups very naturally and satisfyingly. Destiny makes it very clear early on that you have a LOT of grinding to do, and for no other reason than higher level bad guys merely have too many HP for your lowly weapons.

I so wanted to like Destiny and was hoping the emotionless start was just because your character (what's his/her name BTW?) just woke up and didn't know who he was or how to begin his hero's quest. I figured maybe the story would become compelling at the Tower. Meanwhile about an hour into the game, the "Speaker" or some such tells you the world is about to end but hey, you're level 2, have scrap gear, and just woke up from being dead a few hundred years, so why don't you give it a shot and maybe you can save the multiverse from the DARKNESS ooooooo. Squa?

That moment when your guy (what's his name and why do I care) looks over at his "Ghost" is perhaps the lamest cutscene since Final Fantasy X: Tidus Learns to Laugh. It's positively cringe-worthy. It reminded me of when I was embarrassed to admit I still enjoyed video games because they were clearly meant for children.

It was this moment when I realized Destiny is simply not a AAA title in spite of its AAA+ budget and in spite of Bungie. There were immediate clues. Right out of the gate realizing that race and gender meant absolutely zip was a disappointment. Wouldn't it be perfect if the robot made the ideal Titan, the alien best suited to Warlock, and of course a Human Hunter? And meanwhile mixed race/classes would add both challenges & some strategic advantages. That would instantly make the game deeper and more interesting.

Speaking of merely cosmetic differences...so you mean to tell mean that even though you & your flying Rubik's Cube discover and revive a friggin' SPACESHIP bristling with guns and you can buy all sorts of new high-dollar spaceships at the Tower and there's a blond space-mechanic that perpetually sits seductively on a space chest and fixes your spaceship for free every time you dock...and this spaceship is nothing more than a LOADING SCREEN PICTURE??? Are. You. Kidding. Me?

Bungie Bungie Bungie. You had us in the palm of your hands. You teased us with a game that could have done for gaming, what Star Wars did for motion pictures. So much potential. I hope you take those zeroes seriously. I think it's funny how slow the professional review sites are to publish. They see all the glaring flaws but have editors who could be sniffing that river of cash flowing out of a $500,000,000 budget. I fully expect them to shill 9's & 9.5's but we mature gamers should have higher standards and keep publishers honest. Last of Us is a 9, 9.5; Destiny is a 7.

I never really looked into the game before release, so I was not marketed too as much and do not think I was promised some of the crazy stuff people were hoping for.

The big issue with the lack of large features is probably tied into the fact that they wanted to put it on so many consoles. Especially in multiplayer, there is really no good excuse to have a 6v6 in 2014.

Destiny is the worst game out there.

It was in development for awhile...hinted at in Halo 3: ODST Easter eggs (2009). The game feels like it’s been stuck in development for much longer than that though. The plot—if you can call it one—is not compelling or interesting. Gameplay mechanics are okay but they neither are twitch realistic (think CoD) or arcade-fun (think Borderlands 2).

Sadly the developer advertised the game to be a massive shared world shooter; that being said, the largest multiplayer matches were measly 6 vs. 6 teams. In comparison, Halo 2 for the original Xbox was pitting 8 vs. 8 matches back in 2004.

Also what is up with the no proxy talk feature? It’s frustrating that I can’t vent about my frustrations with other players in game without navigating the cumbersome menu screens (which, might I add, were molded after the navigation screens of Halo 2… seriously guys, this is anything but a next-gen experience).

Giving it a 0 for the insane hype and terribly boring experience. Do yourself and do not purchase this game. Bungie should not play their fans for the fool like this.

Spent all of yesterday running through as a Warlock and had a blast with some friends on hard mode.

Loot doesn't drop as often as other games (re: BL) but it does feel more important or more of an upgrade. I'd rather have this system than be swimming in useless loot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler: the game has no beginning, middle or end. This is either a huge failure by bungie or more likely, a catastrophe caused by corporate overlords hellbent on milking every dime out of gamers based on the street cred of bungie. Much like the sneak peek at Aliens: Colonial Marines. The final product is not at all what was advertised. This game feels gutted and the parts and entrails of this possibly once great title will be sold back to the fool hearty who endure this slap in the face and actually give them more money. No I say! This ends today! I'm taking this steaming pile back and getting credit for Shadow of Mordor. We'll see how that goes. As for destiny, the graphics are awesome, sound awesome, multiplayer can be fun but even that is wearing thin after only a couple weeks of semi-steady playing. It just lacks any depth whatsoever for anyone except maybe the hardcore player. I mean seriously, I shouldn't have to put in 150 hours of gameplay to get a couple really sweet legendary or exotic pieces. Instead the game drops with the most random crap loot system you could ever imagine. Oh they'll fix it, they say! Donnn't worry they say! Screw that. Where all ya schwag at destiny? Ohh that's right, it's coming soon, $20 bucks please!! Expand

Something I've learned over the past few years:

Gamers are a bunch of whiners. It doesn't take much for them to complain. And it's not just about video games in general, like this one. We could push it to things like the Zoe Quinn controversy. Crazy how far people go with things that shouldn't matter, and happen in many businesses whether you like it or not. Or hey, even the typical

Crazy how far people go with things that shouldn't matter, and happen in many businesses whether you like it or not. Or hey, even the typical Playstation vs Xbox fanboy wars... they just love to hate and complain, again, over things that shouldn't matter.

And here's Destiny. I've been playing it for a bit, and so many people complain about it. No, it's not a game that's going to change people's lives. But it's a great looking, fun game and I enjoy playing it. Play it with friends. And I'm sure Bungie will throw out more and more updates to make the game more enjoyable. What else should I even say?

It's not like Bungie is out there to rip people off since it's not a classic hit like Halo. Yet that's how people seem to be taking it. I don't get it. Oh, the internet.

It's a well polished, great game. If you are disappointed, so be it. Let's leave it at that.

Great game been playing for days. Sub-Classes are a bit weak in creativity which is what DLC is for.
Story is sadly lacking, Gameplay is fun, needs tweaking though. Amazing graphics. Creativity is lacking in gear. This is sadly no-where close to a MMO, it has great potential. If they make a second it will be glorious.

    - half assed story - these are the people who developed the Halo universe, which is pretty rich. But apparently they invested no more than a total of $10 into a decent story. Any teenager with a laptop can do better than this - they didn't even try. No answers or info is really given in the game, and 99% of the background info is not in-game but in the 'grimoire cards' on their website. WTF? Imagine if Mass Effect had had zero info on the Turians, Asari, Hanar, or any other species and just had a generic enemy called the 'Darkness'. That would be Destiny's story.
    - sucky endgame. After beating the story, what is there to do? The same 5 or 6 strikes over and over and over and over, and over and over again? Talk about boring. Then there are these big, bad 'raids'. Sounds cool right? Finally can play with a part of more than 3 people (seriously, Borderlands managed 4 person teams last gen for god's sake). But wait! No matchmaking! So if you do not have 6 friends with this game on at the same time, there's no playing the raids - which makes them entirely useless.
    - unbalanced multiplayer. Wow is the multiplayer disappointing. None of the maps really seem all that different from each other. Guardian abilities badly unbalance the gameplay and vehicles have no counter measures (unlike in Halo). As soon as Halo MCC hits in November, no way I'd ever consider going back to Destiny's multiplayer.

Overall, very disappointing. At least Bungie taught me a lesson - *never* buy the $100 special edition of the first game in a new franchise. I cannot believe I spent that much on a game that I got less than 10 hours of gameplay in. Ugh

Graphically, it's OK. It's not astounding, it's correct. Neat Textures, not saturated in blur effects, and good general design. But why 30fps ? Seriously... It just ruins it. Enemies keep dodging every time you shoot them, and you just have not this fluid impression allowing you to follow them correctly.

Sounds are good, pretty convincing. And musics are... Well, it's Martin O'Donnell, its really classy, but they are too discreet, sadly you won't really pay attention to them.

And now we hit the very hard point, gameplay. If you played Halo Reach, you'll feel like it you're playing it all over again. There is the possibility to aim down the sights, but you'll only use it on a sniper. It's like they couldn't at all cut their links to Master Chief's universe. It's aliens (they hide as soon as they take damage, and have three fingers at each hand, all just like the Elites, seriously...), with player attracted bullets. But instead of fighting the Covenant, in models and design, you'll feel like you're facing enemies from an older Bungie game: Marathon. And leveling is a pure joke. A higher level enemy means it will absorb more total damage, but you'll deal the same amount of HP with each hit (I destroyed a lot of lvl 9 squads while being lvl 5 without it really being harder), and randomly, you'll find a level ?? enemy, where instead of making an epic fight with him, where insistence will eventually make you win, he'll just take no damage (with a somewhat insulting 'immune' word popping out). Evolving weapon levels is a good idea on paper, but Borderlands/Mass Effect (and more...) just do it better, since whatever level your weapon is, it'll handle just the same, with no advantages what so ever, and even only one design per weapon category is here (one DMR, one AR, one sniper, etc...). Missions are just killing squads after squads after squads of enemies, and bosses are just bullet-sponges, just empty your magazine, hide behind a wall, reload, repeat. Multiplayer can't be enjoyed unless you reach a 'respectable' level. And come on... This can easily be a single player game, why can't we play alone... Come across a higher level player, he'll just annihilate your own enemies (at least you'll still win EXP if you're in his surroundings).

I won't talk about story-telling, since it is purely trivial. You have the setting, and that's it. Bungie wanted the players to tell their own stories, but at this level, just make a fan fiction contest and put the winner in the game. There is no character nor event to remember.

So... To sum all that up... It could have been way better. $500 millions in development? I doubt it, include advertising cost which must be impressive (Activision got us accustomed to that), and maybe we'll reach that. Good graphics quality, nice soundtrack, not original enough gameplay, laughable story-telling. Wait for its price to drop (I bought it 110€ and I regret it). This game can be qualified a disappointment, but I won't say that, it's more of a missed opportunity.

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.
