I rated this game a 7 earlier. However, after spending a few more hours with it with a full party of friends i would have to rate it around an 8. The PVE is absolutely a blast to play with friends, especially on the hard modes.

The PVP is fun, but it does need some tweaks and it could have really benefited from 60 fps.

Some of the levels have already provided a good challenge, and I am currently waiting for friends to get their copies to make it more enjoyable (what game isn't more fun with friends).

The way the game was made means Bungie can easily add lots of content in the future.

Not sure what some people were expecting but instead of reading bad reviews from people with nothing else better to do, I'd recommend taking time to go watch gameplay videos, and wait for actual reviews to be released.

Destiny arrived this morning and I have been playing it for around 7 hours, ergo this is only really a first impressions review. This is coming from a fan of CoD, Halo (Die-hard fan), Battlefield, Boarderlands, and Titanfall, as well as Forza.

Destiny arrived this morning and I have been playing it for around 7 hours, ergo this is only really a first impressions review. This is coming from a fan of CoD, Halo (Die-hard fan), Battlefield, Boarderlands, and Titanfall, as well as Forza.

For me, the only aspect in which Destiny dissapoints is the actual gunplay. The gunplay feels like a remake gone-wrong of Halo. Honestly, I sometimes felt that if they were gonna rip of their Halo franchise, they should have copied the lot. The shooting is not as snappy, or accuracy-based as Halo is, and that tells me that this game won't ever be competitive. They really should have left the gunplay as it was, because Halo stuck that balance perfectly.

However, this game is more than just shooting. I can't help but feel that all these guys giving it a 0 either haven't given this game a chance, or haven't played it at all. The whole ambience and feel of the world is real and ingaging. The graphic style is awesome, and render/draw distances even more impressive than Dead Rising 3, (and resolution is at full HD 1080p). The soundtrack, though not quite Martin O'Donnell's best work, is atmospheric and iconic.

The most fun to be had is on Patrols, Strikes, and Raids with friends. (No, we didn't complete the raid D: ). The game is certainly a social experiece, and if you don't have a group of 3 or so friends to play with, you won't experience all that Destiny has to offer, and I'd reccomend sticking with CoD or BF or Titanfall. The level design for the open-world is very good. I mean VERY good. The skyboxes are incredible (similar to Titanfall's), and the levels never leave you without action for too long. Character Customization is cool and very extensive, but doesn't persuade me to try to unlock more gear to swag myself up like I was hoping.

Although the crucible is, in some ways, Destiny's achilles heel, due to the frankly bland gunplay, It certainly adds to the experience. I hear complaints that you can't start in the crucible until level 5? Trust me, you probably won't want to. I recommend getting though the first few campaign missions and do a strike with some friends before getting into the crucible. Fundamentally though, The crucible itself lacks identity. Its customization is very extensive (same guardian as co-op), which is fun and interesting, especially for casuals, but compromises competitive play. Crucible is, despite it's relative lack of revolutionary ideas, is great fun and is a greater challenge than that found in co-op. You can rely on the crucible to hold your interest for a few hours until your friends come online.

Lastly, the framerate is very steady for me, never dropping at all. The controller is perfect for this game, which in some ways actually redeems it. Having played the game on my PS4 aswell, I can tell you that X1 is the place to play Destiny. Movement is fluid, responsive and natural, unlike the clunky nature of the PS4 controller, plus there is no spec difference between the versions. Matchmaking (where applicable) is rapid and finds great, no-lag games most of the time, with matches being close almost every time as well.

The Verdict! Destiny is not perfect. Neither is is the best game of the year, nor Bungie's best game. But, with the debatable exception on crucible and gunplay, the game is fun an unique in its own right. This isn't the Holy Grail of fps games, no game ever will be, but this game has impressed me. Its scale is massive. This game is fun, and is worth the price tag. I certainly do not regret my purchase, and would recommend this to any FPS fan, looking mainly for a co-op/singleplayer experience.

And then there's my first skill-tree, which, although unlocking gradually, is making my mind race forward with thoughts of how I’m going to use it sympathetically with the gear I pick up, once I’ve actually worked out how I want to play.

Probably one of the best shoot em up games on the x'bone. Graphics and audio are great. Multiplayer is good and works - more than you can say for drive club, master chief collection, etc! There is very little story to capture you imagination, but I find I keep going back to it for a blast and it's still as fun as day one.

This game by yourself is not going to be nearly as fun compared to when you are doing anything with your friends or even random online players. The game has small flaws, mostly PvP balance and lack of end game content. Not to an extreme (End Game wise) but there could be more to offer post 20 like Sparrow races, gambling, etc. I mostly would just like to see side activities as the 2 just listed to do with friends that isn't combat scenario's. Mini games, parkour challenges, really anything. Just something more to the game other than Raids, PoE, Strikes and PvP.

I really do give this game a 10. Why? Not because it's perfect but this game has turned into one of the best Co-Op experiences I have ever had in the past several years. Probably the best since the 1st Borderlands. I have put so much time and had so much fun with my friends that I can't not give it a 10. The game itself may not be perfect but all the wonderful experiences I have had is rare with games now a days. No other game this year has made me and my friends do nothing but enjoy our time. Wether it was the first VoG run, bouncing the ball at the Tower or just being idiots in general. I have had an amazing time.

I simply love the game because it has been a super fun experience, with loads of hours and craziness. Many challenging moments, many epic PvP kills and tons of those "moments" you won't forget. That is what to me, defines an MMO. Something unforgettable with friends and random people online that turn into an awesome night of gaming.

I still play today and probably will for a long time. Thanks for reading.

    Cheers!

The story is lacking (which sucks for those who like story-driven games) and the grinding can get very frustrating, but otherwise this is a game I would highly recommend, especially for people who are just looking to have fun with their friends, gunning across the ruined worlds of the Solar System.

This is why the game has been abused by reviewers like gamespot and ign. They think it is an memo and place to much weight on that, not paying attention to the fact that this game isn't at all an mmo, but a co op shooter that focuses on good game play in an open world, similar to skyrim without co op. The PvP can feel a little unbalanced and lacks the depth I'd hope to see from any type of MMO game.

Limits on weekly points earned, kind of like a pay-to-win mobile game. This can seriously limit leveling.

Glitches in fireteam voice chat and loading. Server drops often. No matchmaking for high level strikes and raids.

Destiny has pretty much been the only thing I've been playing since it's release 2 months ago. It's a shooter that has some RPG and MMO elements. I've broken my review into lists of things I love and hated.

    Loved:

The Raid. - This 6 person, teamwork-oriented mission is one of the most single exhilarating and rewarding things I have participated in on any console. It was difficult and required a great deal of communication between teammates. I've done it many times since and even though it doesn't change it's still a lot of fun.

Story - The story is actually quite interesting... but the delivery is... located in the next section.

Gameplay - It plays like a typical FPS. The enemies can be tough, the higher tiered weapons are interesting, the character skill trees are diverse and fun to customize.

    Hated:

Story Delivery - The story is very poorly delivered and explained. As you complete lesser objectives you unlock "Grimoire" cards which provide a backstory to the universe, however in order to read them you need to go to the Bungie website or download the App.

Grinding - When upgrading your gear to higher levels missions you find yourself needing more materials. It will require you to travel around a planet looking for them. It's not fun, it's a chore. Luckily the Xbox One snap feature allows you to watch Amazon (Netflix?) while you do it. Also being with a group of friends makes it faster and less like a chore but more like hanging out.

All in all I enjoy the game a great deal. It has some issues but nothing is game breaking or infuriating. If I didn't mention it, it's because it never really effects my experienece. I wish more people would give this game, or any game, legit reviews instead of either 0's or 10's. This is certainly neither of the two.

Destiny features a quite lengthy story, atleast for today's standards, with me clocking in just over 12 hours to complete the story missions.

The story is quite enjoyable, and is told in a similar way to the first Halo, with mysterious background story, an ancient threat, badass alien races and futuristic "super soldiers". In similar vein to Halo: CE, Destiny's story is told quite subtlety, and its quite easy to see it's being set up to tell future stories, be that through DLC or future titles. But Destiny isn't all about the story, it's more so about the multiplayer experiences.

Along with all the story missions being playable with a full fireteam (Group of 3), it also offers many activities for you and your friends to enjoy. These activities include Patrol mode, which lets you free into the beautiful game world with your friends and other people venturing through the area, and sets you free from any boundaries. It allows for you to roam around the world killing enemies, exploring hidden areas for loot chests, secret high-level enemies, and also has mini-missions throughout whichever location you're exploring to keep you occupied. I've found my self lost within Patrol mode for hours, just capping enemies and doing random missions. Patrol mode is definitely one of my favourite modes in the game, and i can see myself putting days of gametime into this mode alone.

Along with patrol, Destiny features Strikes and Raids(Available on Sept. 16th). Strikes are a small co operative mission, generally split into three sections. Strikes allow for one fireteam to take on its challenges, and are highly replayable due to the fact that in the three split areas of the Strike, all enemies besides bosses are randomly generated and always follow different patterns, creating a new experience each time. Raids promise to be Strikes on a much larger scale, potentially taking hours to complete, and will allow for two fireteams to play in one session.

Although the Co-Op options in Destiny are some of the most fun i've had in a while, this wouldn't be a Bungie game without a potent competitive multiplayer mode, known in Destiny as the Crucible. The Crucible is filled with a few modes, although in normal Bungie fashion there will probably be more added as time goes on. There isn't much I can say about the Crucible besides the fact that it is one of the best Competitive Multiplayer experiences on the Next-Gen consoles at the moment. Weapon Equalization makes for balanced matches where the more skilled player will win over the player who has better weapons due to time played. That, mixed in with some amazing map design and great character abilities creates for one addictive mode that set to played for months to come.

All in all, Destiny is one of the best games currently available on Next-Gen, and one of the best FPS games I've played in a long while. It's definitely 10/10 material as some people are saying, and it's definitely not the MMO experience many were expecting, but it's a very potent shooter with tons of replayability in all the modes, be it the story mode, the wealth of Co-Op activities, or the amazingly crafted Competitive Multiplayer experience, Destiny is a game I recommend to everyone looking for a fun shooter experience, and is definitely something Bungie should be proud of.

    See you Starside, Guardians.

Good aesthetics. And the fundamentals are all superb. Where this game lacks is in the fun department. Its just so sterile, and bland. I was literally bored to tears repeating the same activities over and over. The game should be titled Snooze fest 2014 or Halolands. Also the 30fps is absolute garbage for crucible.

    Will not continue to play.

The gameplay is excellent. The controls feel fluid and everything is easy to control. I particularly enjoy the instant feedback on whether your shots are precision hits or not. I've been playing as a warlock and using the force melee is one of life's simple pleasures. The special abilities (for any class) are a lot of fun as well. I never felt bored while playing because the game makes it very satisfying to blow off a fallen's head and watch their soul escape.

The enemies are also varied. I particularly enjoyed fighting the Vex. That was a nice change from the headshot oriented battles of every other game, and their ability to teleport forced me to change up my usual strategy. The only issues I had were with the AI. All enemies were fairly bland, and for the most part don't really seem like they are actively trying to hunt you down and kill you. At the very least, it's hard to believe that these are the guys who wiped out humanity.

I'm torn on the boss fights in particular. Most are very fun (the level with the sword...hell yeah!) but often are just souped up versions of their lesser minions with no personality. It would be nice to have a villian that you can learn to hate before you kill them, not just put a name above their head and make them big.

Story is...bland. That being said, I'm a sucker for a good fantasy story, so I was still drawn into it. Still, claiming you are a guardian who wields light and fights darkness doesn't add a sense of urgency to the game. It just makes you picture an enemy that you can't see. I also wish the level were more varied, but that's the general problem with most shooters these days, so I don't fault Bungie for that.

I didn't have a problem with Peter Dinklage like most people did. The final version has some improved delivery on some of the cornier lines, and the robotic effect makes it seem a little more real. That being said, his only role is exposition. The ghost doesn't really have much personality, and mostly comes across as a dictionary (hack anything. You'll see). And, for a character that serves to explain the plot, you'd think he could fill you in on a lot more of what actually happened.

I liked the guns and the ability to upgrade armor and weapons. It made me actively look for weapons that had some kind of bonus, and it adds a nice touch to the gameplay. I loved using the heavy machine guns. The ammo is pretty balanced so you never feel overpowered, but still have enough to cause problems for everyone else.

I think the tower was a nice touch. I like having a social center in the middle of the game, and it helped me organize things better. I wish that you could fast travel there without having to go to orbit first. In fact, the whole travel system is hugely annoying. The loading screens take FOREVER and you always have to go to orbit first. Plus, no mini map? Really?

There haven't been too many issues with bugs. Yesterday I was trying to beat the Devil's Lair strike, and once we finally got to the final boss battle, the server crashed and I got booted. Pretty disappointing. But, it's only happened once, so I'm not too torn up about it.

Overall, a beautiful, well crafted game. Not a bad first entry for a game of this type. Bungie needs to work out some of the finer details, because there is definitely room for improvement. On the whole though, Destiny is an excellent game that you want to come back to.

The challenges Bungie throws you into make you think, "Holy crap! How am I going to take on THAT?" and leave you with a sense of pride when you take down some of the more outrageous creatures inhabiting the various vistas. Playing with friends makes the experience incredibly fun, and when we take out that last boss of a difficult strike, our bro-cheers are joyously deafening. The rewards always leave you satisfied with your efforts, but Bungie always conveys that subtle message of, "Okay, you've done that, great job, but can you beat THIS?" I can feel the tension building while gearing up to take on the insane Vault of Glass raid, an extreme teamwork-oriented mission which only the most experienced players can master, and I can't wait to try for that sweet gear at the end of that long, dark, monster-filled tunnel. Even with how much fun there is to have with the current game, there's much more to come. Bungie is activating new events daily, and adding new content monthly, so there's always more to do, even if you're not ready to take on some of the more ludicrous challenges the game offers. Competitive multiplayer is fun, even though stress-enducing competition against better players isn't my favorite experience, and it's cool to see how your new gear fares against other Guardians. Sometimes, however, there's just too much badass stuffed into it. Many, many abilities, as well as secondaries, are one shot kills, and though each class is as overpowered as the last, it can lead to some frustratingly unavoidable deaths. The story is a bit vague on details about the universe, but I'm looking forward to discovering more about the mysterious Traveler and everything that has happened because of it. I know I'll be cheering with my buddies a lot with this IP over the next 10 years. This may not be the expansive universe many seemed to be expecting, which is in part why this rating is not a 9 or 10, but that won't be the case for long. The game's current state could be equated to a stage of infancy, but content will grow with the developers, who alway keep their ears to the ground for fan feedback. If you sold your game already, I pity you. This joyride is far from over, and if you're looking for fun, you've found it. Expand

It's a fine game though by no means unflawed. Many of those who are enjoying it are convinced all the zero scores are trolling, but really that's having an equally blinkered view as the zero scorers themselves.

For the sake of trying to find some balance, let's tackle the main hate points:

    "Story is garbage"
Depending on your expectations, probably a legitimate point. One-dimensional, lacking any strong characters and generally an absolute bare-bones affair. If this is where you get enjoyment from games then it's going to fall very short. Coming from the bungie stable, you can see where criticism is coming from as it's certainly no halo in this respect.

"Missions are mindless & repetitive go-to-X,kill-Y/collect-Z"
Again probably true in the main. But then again what else exactly is expected from a shooter/collect-em-up here? Are players expecting an on-rails cinematic rollercoaster full of sudden twists? It's not that type of game; the architecture is entirely contrary to it. Anyway the main trouble on this point is that it's made all the more glaring by the above one - there's no strong plot or dialogue to distract the player from the fact that they're essentially repeating similar tasks in any given mission, which is how most games of this ilk tackle the issue.

"Gameplay / gunplay / ai is horrible & boring"
I think many of the haters are missing a fundamental mechanic here, at least concerning the story missions (which bungie haven't done a good job of calling out themselves) - and that's choosing the appropriate difficulty. The game's normal difficulty is aimed squarely at 'casual' play - it's balanced to let you run & gun through pretty much every scenario thrown at you. If you're in any way competent at shooters but leave the difficulty on normal, then yes you'll probably find the gameplay highly dull because when you can kill everything but a boss in seconds flat, you're not going to have any interactions that expose you to subtlety in ai or the need to react to different battle conditions! So if I could give one tip to maximise enjoyment of this game, it would be to play on hard mode at all times, it makes for an infinitely more enjoyable experience. If it seems too hard, stick with it, the effort pays off once you get to grips with it.

    "Horrid graphics"
I don't really want to touch this one. Sure it's not the most stunning looking game ever in either design or execution, but for those waving fingers on things like 30fps to cite zero scores on games, sorry but if 30fps/60fps defines whether or not you can enjoy a game, you're a brain donor (or should be). Of course you're entitled to your opinion :)

"All the guns are the same"
People complaining about this most likely aren't experienced playing morpg's to know what they're talking about. You don't expect to find outlandish loot on day one of play! Wading through the junk till you find the good rares is the tried & tested format of the genre, in the meantime I guess it means more zero scores from those new to it.

    "Pvp is unbalanced"
Mostly an artefact of the character customisation but sadly true right now. Hopefully will be improved with later updates.

"Not one original concept seen in the game"
I'd have to agree with this, but again what are the expectations? It doesn't feel like bungie set out to break new ground with this game, rather they wanted to bring a number of tried & true concepts together.

Which brings me to my last point. Are so many people mad because they were didn't get what the hypetrain promised? Were they by any chance told they were getting something revolutionary & never seen before, yet again? If that's the case then I'm afraid for every AAA game with a big marketing budget, this cycle of butthurt & rage is going to continue indefinitely. It was the same with titanfall! We were promised the next quantum leap in fps gameplay, what we got was a hybrid of cod & battlefront but with only one vehicle type, and not one original mechanic in sight.

So in summary I actually agree with a lot if not most of the criticism. So why the 8 score? Because none of this ultimately detracts from how much fun this game is assuming you don't play in easy mode. Sure it's imperfect but the gameplay, for as long as it challenges, is fantastic, especially when playing with friends.

One way that it falls short unfortunately is the PvP. There is a considerable amount of lag compensation going on that often ends in hit trades or being shot by someone not even facing you. Not only that, the use of special abilities in PvP is questionable. Sure it's satisfying to one-shot three people at once, but you always feel cheated on the receiving end, and I feel it takes away from the enjoyable aspects of it, they need to be nerfed for PvP or just removed from it entirely. Overall, I think Destiny deserves an 8/10. It would have been higher but the PvP needs tweaking. Expand

and then I played level 8 story last night. Now, maybe I am getting used to it, maybe I am learning the combo of weapons needed to take down enemy..who knows, who cares.....

Because at level 8 story, playing a 2 man fireteam, the game came alive for some reason. Things were chasing us, guarding our dead body so no one could revive us, dancing around us....It was pretty insane....and I have to tell you, a lot of fun....Then I happened into a friends game on level 9 on Venus....that was even more fun.

So I would say this, especially to the not so good casual gamers. learn your weapons, don't be afraid to use them in combo and play the game like the AI is way smarter than you.....The game starts getting insane and FUN in later levels......

I wont lie there is a lot of missions where you have to kill and shoot stuff. But lets start using our brains now. Isn't that what most FPS are? You shoot **** in the first person. If you are expecting something else than that with lots of player interaction(not voice of course unless you are in a party with them/One of the games short comings)

The reason why I'm not giving Destiny a higher score is because it did not meet my standards for anything higher than a 8/10(Good not great but still very much enjoyable and a little addicting)
Personally I have never wanted to play Multiplayer(PVP) matches since Halo Reach when it comes to over all fun factor. Don't get me wrong this game fall flat in most PVE elements but PVP it really strikes my fancy.

Now for a lot of peoples comments I have heard about not having private matches and such. I never once played an MMO and was given the option to go into my own private server with my own rules. Remember this is not just a FPS. Not having private matches is a MMO Element.

Some of the short comings to name a few
Voice actors not putting any heart into the character they are portraying.
The writing is few with little to no impact on the players.
Most Characters are just there with no real reason to be besides selling gear.(this might change later on but not likely)
In PVE the AI can get predictable to the point even on higher level they are easy to deal with.
The over all Lore/plot. As Much as I like the idea and I can dig it. The cinematic scenes are few and are not as engaging for the upcoming mission. I often see them as a waste of time(also no skip scene feature)
No Mic communications between player in-game. I really was looking forward to that but at the same time Silents is nice within the tower(safe zone) but in PVP I wish they added in voice communication. Trash Talkers, Helpful warnings of inbound enemy's heading to Point B. All of it. But there isn't.
And for the PVE side. When the battle is intense on a strike mission you wont always hear "Guardian is down" and it be nice to be able to communicate with other players since not all of them want to join your party chat. It be nice to have that option so strategy and helpful tips can be applied to our team mates.
In my personal opinion in-game communication is its biggest short coming/issue/flaw.

But again It can be easily brushed off the shoulder on the fact on how addicting this game can be. The PVP is fun and the weapons seem balanced by on its stats. Its all about finding the right gun for you and sticking to it. I personally enjoy the hand-cannon and most don't because rate of fire and small clips but for a precision shooter it works well just like the scout rifle with less impact.

Strike mission on the PVE side are fun and they become even more fun when you end it with a Legendary item.(rarely happens but its enough to lift your spirits up)
Raids are just now added and I am a bit bummed out you NEED/CAN only play with people you know. No matchmaking for them. . .My opinion terrible decision. Sure you can pick whos good enough to play with but what if you don't have any friends to play with and the lack of Voice communication in game makes it Difficult to build a group for one. You would be force to go to your local Forum and Plead for raiding buddys that doesn't always pull through. So I see it as Content that should be fun but most likely wont be because of the amount of interaction you need when the game does make it difficult to do so.

I would recommend to play it because you judge it and play everything. If you feel its easy than please take it off easy and push that difficulty to hard. The game will make you work hard to earn your stuff and play even harder to achieve your goals. I found majority challenging until of recent but that is because of my experience in how to handle fights and my over all equipment. Before how ever it was a climb.

Gotta give this an 8/10 Can't ignore the flaws in the game but the fact it has keep me playing after so many hours put into it and its fun. In reality the only factor that matters. Is it fun to play or not?

If you nit pick why you SHOULDN'T like a game than yeah you will never have fun with it but if you just sit down and enjoy playing it no matter what it is than that is all that should matter. This game nails it for me on that.

Customization in Destiny is also a huge feature that makes me love it even more. I'm always searching for something better than what I have even when what I have is rockstar armor and surgical weaponry. The options for upgrading, increasing proficiency, and adding on with perks to the weapons keeps each new gun fresh and fun while I continue to search for something even better.

Art wise, the game is beautiful! The worlds are beautifully filled with unique buildings, landscapes, and creatures. The animations are smooth, the lighting is gorgeous, and every pixel is like a painting of a masterpiece.

Bungie has made another great game that I look forward to playing for years to come!

I gave Destiny a 6 because of the repetitive and boring campaign! This campaign is incredibly boring, there are few cut scenes and there isn't enough detail or story details to explain anything about your character or the earth or the universe. Along with that the campaign missions are overrated to the hype this game got earlier this year. If your a campaign gamer don't buy this game. I gave this game a 6 because of almost everything else I love playing crucible I just can't stop playing it. I'm level 26 and I love it. Crucible for me is a lot like Halo you can strafe for kills and melee is similar to halo but it feels more like an mmo as in the classes each play a different role and I find that amazing. The smooth interface of the game also impresses me it feels just easy to use and simple. Its a shame this game isn't a 10 because the campaign is extremely dull and lacking excitement or even a story but crucible for makes up for that and at least pulls a 6/10. $60 is to much for this game especially without and DLC. I have had a lot of fun with this game. In fact, it's probably one of the best games I've played in a while. However I feel the game is missing many features, and I think they were in a hurry to release it. I definitely believe that Destiny could meet expectations over the next year or so, provided Bungie supply us with free updates. It's definitely worth a buy, as there is a lot of replay value.

This is not the case for the entire game, but instead a way to familiarize the player with controls (which are silky smooth), set the tone for the story (yes, there is a story here), and guide you through the inventory/leveling system. In short, the first two levels are (IMO) a tutorial for players. The game is far from perfect however, the loads times are way too long, the character creation is very limited, the character leveling is linear and doesn't really feel like it makes much difference in gun battles and overall the game just feels like its missing something. Its definitely not a Halo killer and honestly it will be forgotten when the next Call of Duty arrives. The game is not bad, its just not exceptional and it was grossly overrated. But its fun and I've enjoyed it, and I would recommend it. Just be aware THIS IS NOT AN MMO.

Graphics and Sound: The graphics look great and the soundtracks are not only truly interesting to listen to but also memorable as well. A true testament to the work of so many talented artists together as far as tracks go.

Playability and Entertainment: The controls handle excellently and makeup for some less than savory moments during the game. The story is pretty basic but nonetheless an entertaining adventure, and the same can be said about the game as a whole. It merges most of the right elements between MMO and shooter and RPG genres.

    Replay Value: High.

I can't say this is a perfect game. I have to say it does not live up to the hype in the way I imagined. I imagined an extremely deep and developed storyline with endless varieties of guns/armor/abilities. The beginnings of what I thought would be present are there, but it is not complete - there is a successful platform to build.

    Pros:
    - Controls, if you like FPS' this game is so smooth it has me drooling every time I pull the trigger.
    - Graphics, great views that make you stop to look and take it all in
    - A great menu system, this game makes it easy to play with friends and navigate the entirety of the game.
    - Multiplayer, even with a ton of abilities and skills, Bungie found a way to make it work.
    - Loot that is rare and powerful, it gives MMO players great rewards for their efforts.
    - The expansiveness of the universe, there are so many places to go and things to do.

    Cons
    - Depth. Currently, this single word is the one that keeps this game from being a 9 or 10.
*We have come to expect more as far as storytelling/character development goes from Bungie.
*There could be a bigger variety of weapon models, there are 1000s of varieties but they all use the same base model design. Armor is pretty good as it stands so far.

With all this being said, I also have a feeling that Bungie, being the sly dogs they are, have a couple things up their sleeve and this is only the beginning of things to come. My review will update accordingly.

I am really struggling to understand some of the negative reviews for Destiny. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but giving Destiny a zero is not credible in my view. It leads me to suspect that the writers of such reviews are either working for the competition or their just being objectionable.

I've read lots of reviews; official critics and users who have said that Destiny is trying to be all things and mastering none. This could be true, but it depends what you want. The question in my view is "do you enjoy playing it?". If you do, does it matter what it's trying to be?

Ok so there are games that have deeper RPG elements - if you want the depth, play Diablo. From what I've seen so far there are lots of weapons & ability upgrades, with gradual enough increments to make it fun; without needing an encyclopedia.

No story? I'm not a fan of cut scenes, so the minimal story is fine with me - I enjoy running around the beautiful landscapes and shooting things; in this respect Destiny ticks the boxes. The shooting element, which is actual the point of the game is fantastic.

I'm a massive fan of Battlefield and in my view it is hard to beat for multiplayer - but battlefield's 32 v 32 matches are chaos 99% of the time and unfortunately in my experience the cooperative / team element of battlefield is not fully exploited by players. Very few player use the mic and the vast majority play the game as loners. Even so great game. Destiny is a different thing and not trying to compete.

The co-op missions in Destiny are the highlight - you really feel like you're working as a team even with no verbal communication; it's very natural and feels better than Battlefield in my view.

We can get picky about the details if we want; talking about weapons balance etc....boring...There plenty of weapons from high rate of fire kill everyone in the room types to precision weapons, to all kinds of specials....so pick the weapons you enjoy playing with and have fun and don't complain about this weapon being over power or that one taking too long to reload.

The only area that is negative in my view is the AI; for the most part the enemies appear in exactly the same places and aren't particular clever. Yes they hide behind cover when your are hitting them from range, but they don't stay there and pop out now and again so you can shoot them in the head; when realistically you'd just stay behind the cover and wait for the enemy to come to you; or try some suppression and diversion to get some bodies in amongst the sniper. Where fights get tough it's because either there are a lot of enemies or/and they have a lot of hit points & fire power; not because they are smart. This is a pity, but Destiny manages to pitch the challenge nicely against your level, so your are in the most part on the edge of your players ability.

Overall great game that will keep you coming back for hours on end.

The combat mechanics are tight and strike a perfect balance between appealing to hardcore shooter fans while remaining accepting and enjoyable for those less familiar with the genre. The game's combat does a very good job of making you feel either invincible and vulnerable.

The story is far from revolutionary, and the standard mission structure of "go here, investigate that, deploy your robot companion and defend it from waves of enemies" does wear thin very quickly. However, the game does retain it's spice by throwing increasingly big bosses at you. Just when you think they couldn't get any bigger, they do.

Destiny as a game prospect is all about the long haul. It features Bungie's trademark "30 seconds of fun" design philosophy, but the game is really all about continually striving to improve you character. If you goal in gaming is to play for 30 minutes and you expect significant gratification every time you do so, Destiny might not be for you. If, on the other hand, you can enjoy the gameplay and gradual journey towards ever-increasing rewards, Destiny will be you go-to game for a long time to come.

I never write reviews but felt I had to for destiny because I see people judging a game they have not even finished or finished and don't even bother to attempt the endgame.

Id like to start with all the **** over repetitive missions. im just gonna throw a few games out here Call of Duty, Battlefield, Borderlands, Diablo 1-3, Grand Theft Auto series, pretty much every game ever made.

Fps games like CoD or BF is the same round after round kill each other and take objective or retrieve bomb or whatever. then we have borderlands which all of its quests are the same as destiny. go retrieve x and bring to y go kill x many or fight in corridors and kill this boss. then we have diablo the king of repetition. so I fail to see why people can love those games (and every other game on the planet) but when destiny does it somehow its wrong? Either people need to take their stupid pills or everyone is losing their minds. I never judge a game by this because when you boil it down every game falls into kill x, retrieve y, fight here go there. Argue this point all you want but you might as well bash every other game that you play.

Second people who don't finish the game or finish the Story missions and quit should not be posting any reviews because honestly you have not played the best part. I finished the story and finished leveling to 20 and did my first heroic story daily mission, and yes it was a random mission from the ones you already played but when I got to that last boss fight it was one of the most hair pulling yelling at tv fights ive had in a long time but it was also the most fun once I finished I realized destiny is going to be amazing. I was a little let down they didn't have more variety in the types of missions granted its more kill x or grab y but wish they had more to cycle through but all that ended once hit level 20 and fought my first heroic daily boss. the fight was really tough but it wasn't because they made the fight overly difficult and they didn't just give the enemies ridiculous health what bungie has done is genious.

Bungie just doesn't up the health and damage like so many games I see. Granted they did both of those but it was minimal compared to other games what they did do was make the enemies more aggressive and threw more of them at you and nothing is more nerve racking then trying to regen health behind cover only to be swarmed from all angles. Bungie made you use all your abilities you have to win and they set it up to keep you on the move dodging fire instead of hiding. I had so much fun once I figured that out and after I did I still kept dying but I knew it was my fault for not learning the fight and once I did learn it I finally took down the boss and it was amazing.

What im saying is ignore all the morons that quit early and don't even attempt the endgame so im here to tell you ignore them and keep playing it gets better so much better I cant wait to try my first raid. Hell the guild that took down the first raid played for 14 hours straight and died 1605 times and when they finished bungie congratulated them and told them to try it again on hard mode. lol.

If you like shooters and you like a challenge play this game yes the leveling can be a little dull and I gave it a 9/10 because the story has a great setting but they failed to execute and that's why dropped it one point. But I can tell you if you want a challenge and like games with combat that is not broken and abilities that compliment your guns then ignore all the haters and give this game a try. I guess if you like to have your hand held and don't like a challenge then I have nothing to say to you because your not a real gamer.

Welcome to destiny. the game welcomes you into its relatively vast world and great art design, with the great customization and choices at the very beginning, all the way to the end, and the engaging plot. but don't be mistaken, a great beginning does not mean a great end.

Destiny bombards you with hoards of loot, making it ever more satisfying to get a new piece that looks great, and has a higher rating than your current one. the different choices of weapons you can have further this customization, by letting you play the way you want in combat. but with the mass of loot you get, once you reach a certain point it becomes like the lottery. you end up throwing more money at it than you get. there are many shops that allow you to purchase new gear, but the legendary and above, being the standard for most 20 and up players, takes a large sum of your time to be able to purchase it, forcing you to play missions you may not like, since most legendary gear you can purchase requires a different type of currency, being significantly more difficult to farm than glitter, the standard currency. and after that you still cannot purchase this shiny outfit or weapon you want, unless you have done enough quests for the person, or group. but when you finally get your hands on the new piece of gear, it feels amazing. this game truly is, at end game, quite Grindy. but most of the time you will have fun doing it, boss battles, PvP, you name it.

Speaking of boss battles, they can get insane. the bosses may be easy, as they are usually big and wonky beasts, with many corners and walls to hide behind when it attacks, but its the gigantic army of minions it has to help it that make the battle challenging, consisting of mini-bosses, and other enemies hard enough on their own. it eventually boils down to one player baiting the boss away from the others so they can take out the minions, with the later job being harder. and when that is done, you have a well designed boss battle to fight out, with a boss with usually around a million Hp, it usually feels like. and when you finally kill the abomination, you can dance on its corpse, quite literally, and compare the great loot you got with your raid partners.

PvP feels wonky. it takes a while to get used to the fact that unless you use an auto rifle and a shotgun, you will probably die a fair amount. getting good with other weapons in PvP takes some practice. but when you do, others will probably think your hacking, like any other PvP based game. and it feels good. Tons of maps to play on, all very well designed and balanced. some for long range combat, others close quarter, others can be both. there are different PvP modes, like large scale modes such as a hold the point game mode, and team death match. the best thing about PvP is that its skill based. there is no best weapon, no best armor, there is only you and how you play. well, besides the hunters, who are terrifying close up. the warlocks are amazing for crowd control, i remember one time, i killed all 6 players on the other team with my super charge. i was immediately labeled a hacker after that, like any multiplayer game ever, but boy did it feel good. the titan is surprisingly, more of a supportive role, as you will usually see a titan running around spamming his shield in a fight, making him temporarily invincible, making it very easy to take capture points, or if your in a sticky situation. once again, there is no best class.

the art style is bright and happy on earth, dark and depressing on the moon, ETC... The sound track makes it ever more immersive, with the booming of a fight, the soft melody of the cosmodrone...
the mechanics are great with the game. i cant stress this enough.

the main problem with this, is the lack of story. the story missions, while ultimately leading up to something, never tell you much about the lore, or story of the guardians or traveler. this can be fixed easily in expansions, just like the other weakness of the game.

I hope this was helpful, as this review was more to show you the mechanics of the game, less the game itself. there are plenty of reviews for that. but what everyone is complaining about seems to be the "questing system" which is traditional MMO questing, like, go here and kill this, go there and collect this. this is only in one mission type people! and its an optional mission type! if you don't like this, don't do it. that simple. its made for mainly glitter farming, and just goffing off, you dont have to quest.

but other than this, there is nothing wrong with destiny. the many people who claim the game to be bad, are comparing destiny to games it can't be compared to. this game is more of an MMO than a borderlands, its more of a shooter than an MMO even.this is a very unique game, and it gets the job done, through and through. i hope this was helpful. i would have written more, but im almost out of characters :D

i hope this convinced you to purchase this great game.

I'm giving it a 9, because there is no splitscreen and there is absolutely no reason to not have this option (especially with Bungie's past popular shooter). Also, sometimes the servers are wacky (but that is to be expected from any new game). Aside from that, the game is adventurous and exciting, very challenging. The gameplay changes completely depending on your arsenal or class. The game has a nice balance between PVP and PVE options. The crucible is not in your face, like a lot of FPS games tend to do (focusing solely on the pvp content) it gives the players the choice to choose either Strike missions or Crucible games, or even a bit of both- instead of strictly catering to one or the other. Real Issues: This game was hyped extensively, making everyone look at this game instead of those who'd find it interesting, the similar objectives across the various missions are just that, the rare Reach style flying across the map to death bug that has definitely been reduced, Peter Dinklage does have a few painful lines "TRIP MINES... Don't touch them!", and the connectivity issues that plague certain individuals for reason unknown to me

Now for the plus side; Fun and rewarding gameplay to those who are familiar with having to earn the gear necessary to reach the depths of this game as with other RNG loot based games (This is the only FPS I feel keep-able since some event a few years ago where I completely bummed out of the genre, especially a note-worthy title considering it's only on console.), the story is lackluster, but the end effect builds and interesting foundation. Especially with the Grimoire. Then there's the Vault of Glass, here all that you've read about repetitive gameplay is OUT THE WINDOW. Stealth, co-ordination, a brutal assault that is extensive, rewarding, and very well crafted. Character progression is well paced, and remains tangible past level 20. Especially when you start acquiring legendary/Exotic gear.

Overall, if you can enjoy a grind from a game that encourages a hearty challenge for the lucrative reward I'd say this game certainly has it's merits. Definitely not for everyone as advertised, but I'll be damned if this game isn't fun!

The community with in the game is a lively and friendly bunch always willing to help with the tricky strike you've been trying to complete, and being a max level character i get many a request to help and unless im busy im always happy to help as are the many other high level characters that the inexperienced call upon to help, the loot system at times can be unfair but since the resent update its a lot easier to get decent gear to give you that bump to the next light level or the next tier of weapon damage.

All in all this game is worth the buy I for one shall be buying a second copy to play on the next gen console with my friends

This game is criminally underrated, really fun and with lots of daily content and weekly updates plus scores of endgame content to keep people busy, Extremely pleased with my purchase.

Try it yourself it has so much depth and variation and the game only starts really when you get to level 20-26

While I agree this game was WAY over hyped I will say its a darn good FPS. The level system is easy at first but provides a challenge after you hit level 20. The Story was ok, the art was amazing. The loot system many will complain about but its a good challenge to find good loot. Simply put its a good Sci Fi First Person Shooter and that's all there is to it.

Bungie has laid out a fantastic foundation for the franchise to grow up from. Destiny is a shooter, first and foremost, and this shines through its polished gunplay. The breadth of weapons allows for several different approaches to handling enemies, and the availability of semi-customizable upgrades makes you think about which weapons you'll want to take into different battles. Destiny also has many beautifully crafted environments available to explore, and the three distinct enemy factions inhabiting different areas adds to the variety. Despite this, the amount of playable content available in these environments is quite slim, and players are required to complete highly repetitive tasks to progress, whether that be in regards to reputation grinding for a faction, or obtaining higher leveled gear which allows one to tackle higher level missions. This is highlighted due to a general lack of deep, compelling storytelling that Bungie is known for. A major downside to solo players becomes apparent in Destiny's endgame. There is no matchmaking available for weekly Heroic Strikes, weekly Nightfall Strikes, or the Vault of Glass raid. This limits solo players who have no one to group with, and forces many of them to actively seek out groups to complete these events, as they are essentially the only way to acquire the games best gear. Destiny's PvP can also tend to be rather unbalanced. For example, a team composed of multiple Hunter Bladedancers, which when their super is active can take massive amounts of damage while gliding across the battlefield slicing opponents to ribbons, versus a team of mostly Striker Titans, whose super is a single burst over a short range, usually does not end well for the Titans. Despite all of its flaws, Destiny's gameplay is very fun and engaging, and the game has a ton of potential. If Bungie tweaks the availability of some of the current endgame material, and expands on the lore and storytelling in Destiny's upcoming downloadable content, the game may actually become what it was hyped to be from the beginning. The gameplay of destiny gets a rating of 8/10
Thanks to bounties and hunting for exotic equipment, the game will keep you entertained through both game modes and it will definitely have you interested in a long time as exotic equipments are very rare and hard to obtain.
The game mechanics and combat of the game gets a 7/10
The level cap which is set at level 20 and requires light equipment after and along with limited weapons and lack of a third subclass can definitely improve the game.
    I would rate the game's graphics a 8.5/10
The only flaw being lack of character customization which somewhat ties into graphics. The graphics of Destiny are beautiful starting from the loading screen and going to boss fights and multiplayer, it is beautiful all the way through.
I would give the story and audio of the game a 6.5/10
Mostly because of the lack of story and the awkward character voices and guns. The background music along with most sounds for the game are fit and quite enjoyable.

Pros: Controls are smooth, maps are beautiful and well-designed, and weapon types are interesting.

Buy and play it tons if you are into Halo-like PVP matches. If into solo play, buy it on DVD, play it hard for 2 weeks, then trade it in when you want a new thrill. If you want a compelling story like the Halos, don't bother at all.

You are thrown in the game without much explanation and puzzle your own picture together in the 12 - 15 hours of storymode. Which is the biggest criticpoint of Destiny and was to expected to be, but not for the -in other reviews- stated reasons. You make your own story, the game was never intended to play like a Halo nor a Borderlands. You are one guardian of the city, one of many. So your character lacks the depth a few people were expecting. But there is not a single second in the game you don't feel as part of a larger struggle for riddled mankind to fight its way back to the golden age. Atmospheric, the Game is an absolute blast. From gorgeous graphics to the variety and appearance of enemy's to the deep, yet to be explored lore. Backed by martys ( he will be missed ) incredible music.
The Game sucks you in its world so much that it leaves to much unanswered. The story feels to short for the big Universe which is its biggest weakness. It cries for more because you had so little interactions with other characters and you are left with so many questions. But Bungie could patch sidequests or unlock more story endgame as time goes on.

As a level 20 you have everything what you see unlocked the game guides you no more and you are on your own. The Strike playlist lets you replay random strikes at 4 different difficulties ranging from normal which is quite challenging on its own up to hard and extremely hard difficulties which grant access to high end loot and vanguard points that can be invested in any legendary vanguard equipment back at the tower. Currently there seem to be 5 strikes all quite unique, all rewarding if you succeed.
The Game never feels like a big grind which is a good thing if you don't like this mmo aspect its always rewarding because every enemy has the chance to drop engrammes that contain random loot from common to legendary.
Crafting is a bit simplistic but never the less lets you many options for customizing your gun ( especially high end ones ) and upgrades can become expensive calling you to collect the ingredients or demontating your unneeded equipment for parts.
The Guns all feel really good and fit in with the smooth gameplay which plays like a hybrid between halo 2/3 and MW 1/2 not to slow not too fast making it one of the best playing fps games in a long time.

This especially shows in the crucible ( multiplayer ) when fighting other guardians. The game has a huge focus on skill, allowing a good sniper to dominate the map, even sniping drivers out of enemy vehicles. Map control is hugely important for controlling the crucial ammo spawns ( one guy with a loaded machinegun can turn a game ) and vehicles all off whom are balanced allowing for a easy flank or a blast to hell with your super.
It also brings Halo like medals and complete gamestatistics all stored on bungie.net leaving only the wish / hope for some kind of theatre mode in the future to complete the experience.
For people complaining the multiplayer is unbalanced, there seems to be some code in the game to negate your lvl advance and higher weapon damage so all play on a level playing field. As tested I have not seen a single unfair weapon each and everyone of the weapons you collect have drawbacks, some allow to compensate trough skill and allow for a quick kill.

    In Summary :
    positive:
    +Great Atmosphere / Immersion
    +Beautiful graphics
+Smooth controls and flawless gameplay / weaponplay
    +Variety of enemy's and places
    +great multiplayer
+ 12 - 15 hours scratching on the surface of a deep universe
+ All game is playable with up to 2 friends
    + Challenging and rewarding content

    Negative:
    - Soundtrack is great but a bit repetitive
    - Storycharacters remain unexplored in large parts
    - Story has left way to many questions open
    - no bazillion gunz

In Summary, its not an Mmo, its not Borderlands, its not Halo, its Destiny.
It is primarily a sci-fi shooter with big lore potential and its massively fun to play with a small group of friends, or in multiplayer. The game was made to easily add contend in the future as of daily Updates or paid Dlc, remains to be seen. Its definitively no 0 (people so massively disappointed really should have played the Beta to get an Impression) and its not a perfect game at whole. But the Multiplayer and coop part come very close to that. In Addition comes the great Immersion of the game in general.

    All in all 8.5-9 / 10.

Where Destiny really shines is in the combat system. Action is fast paced, there are a variety of weapons to choose from to suit your style, as you progress through the skill levels your abilities improve. The controls for the most part are very smooth, most importantly the shooting, grenade and knife throwing etc. the on screen map is great too. It's a circular compass that makes it really easy to find your enemies. The enemy AI improves as you go as well. The only problem I had with the game play is weapon switching with the "y" button occasionally jammed or was a little slower than optimal. You keep so many weapons in your arsenal in would be nice for Destiny to make use of the kin next and let you switch primary weapons via voice command.

The game is also quite social. The game really encourages you to play with friends and offers a wide variety of co-op and PvP options to make this happen. The guardian can dance, salute and point too which helps for making friends with strangers when you encounter them when playing solo. Graphically, Destiny is beautiful. Environments are rich and vary throughout the game.

Xbox 1 gamers have been waiting for exciting software for almost a year now. Destiny is that game. it does play a lot like Halo, but with all types of new features and emphasis on multiplayer gaming.

The movement and shooting feels so natural and precise its awesome, and it makes it fantastic to play. As I moved up in level I managed to join up with a friend, we began making our way through missions which weren't available during the short demo, again I found myself in awe of the beauty.
The loot system is also fun and addictive, many will compare it with Borderlands 2, a loot-centric game, but Destiny is different, the game is not about just loot (which is a good thing). In Borderlands' games I often find myself spending half my time in the menus comparing items, however in Destiny loot is not constantly bombarding you, every so often (just the right amount of time) you find a new piece of equipment, this keeps you playing not comparing stats. When you finally find that new armor piece or weapon that is better than your own it feels rewarding, and often isn't replaced right away. Borderlands throws loot at you so much that your constantly switching items in and out, Destiny allows you to use the loot you have earned rather than swapping it out every few minutes. The weapon leveling system works well and helps a great deal with this, rare items often can level and give you new bonuses, this makes them even more useful and increases longevity.
After a couple hours I decided it was time to play competitively in the crucible. I wasn't sure what to expect, I was only level 7 and I assumed I would be outgunned, but surprise again, the multiplayer is incredibly balanced. Not once did I feel outmatched or out of my depth, the weapons all feel fair and evenly matched. The maps are also extremely well put together, mind you this isn't a surprise, it is Bungie after all.
My only gripe so far is a lack of information, I want more backstory on what happened to earth for it to get to this point, I want more context around all these ruins and abandoned buildings everywhere. Who and what exactly are the Fallen? What exactly is a guardian? Why did I get revived from the dead? I want more! (I have a feeling at least some of these answers will come farther into the game).

The gameplay is a blast, and the graphics are the best I have seen yet on the xbox one. I love being able to tell if someone is around the corner just by seeing their shadow on surrounding objects if the lighting is right. The gameplay itself is very fluid and seems to be a mixture of Halo, and Mass Effect. The seemless co-op play at any point in the game is a very welcomed addition and something the Xbox one needed, as me and a friend have been waiting for a good co-op game and none had been released to this point unless you count BF4 which I don't consider really co-op since you cannot go through the campaign together. Those bashing the game are just that, bashers. You can tell reading the 0 review ratings that they have put little effort into the game and most likely may not even own the game. The game is not repetitive so far and I have put about 5 hours into it, and each mission is somewhat unique your not just going to point a and b and killing stuff as some others stated. The only reason I have not given the game a 10 is because to me no game can be perfect, there are some little things that I would love to see expanded upon or improved. The tech tree seems pretty lame as in you have no choice on what abilities to unlock each level unless this changes later on. You have a specific ability you get each level, and that is it. So the same class will be to different from each other. However I have noticed there is sub classes that I have yet to unlock and maybe that will add that customization I was hoping to see. Expand

The game is about the journey, not rushing to some theoretical end or level cap. The story is simple, saving the universe and dominating the enemy, this is not a complicated proposition. Those looking for a complex storyline, with deep character development juxtaposed with involved physiological themes of motivation should read a good book ( I would recommend The Count of Monte Cristo). I like the integration of one player into multiplayer, great new design, whether its just finishing main levels, public events, multiplayer death matches or strike playlist(an awesome version of firefight) the game mixes them all in fantastically. It really fees like a great first person shooter, then a little rpg, as well as a little mmo. Dont let haters fool you, this is a great game. Expand

Best game I've ever played till now. If you like Diablo and Borderlands, this game is made for you. With a big open world, great graphics, amazing soundtrack and a nice history, Destiny is everything I expected.

As it seems with most online games, Destiny is more fun playing with good friends. The lore is OK, yet wholly uninspiring and unimaginative. The hype became bigger than the game, and in those regards, nothing will ever be what everyone hoped it would be, but taken at face value, the experience has been fun. It's a good game to pass a couple of hours with friends a few times a week.

If you're expecting a traditional FPS you're going to be disappointed. Bungie did a great job establishing the ground work for the first ever MM0/RPG FPS. The Gameplay is fantastic, the environments are amazing....now about that story..Oh and dont pay attention to the 14 year olds giving this a 5 and below. They don't hate the game..they just hate themselves.

Look. In no way is this game a 5; that's ridiculous. As soon as I started playing this game, I couldn't put it down. This is truly one of the greatest game I have ever played, with great atmosphere, awesome models and stunning graphics. If you are thinking about buying this game, do. Without hesitation. Trust me, you will not be dissapointed.

Fantastic game that will grow and change over time. The most MMO-like experience I've had on a console, though the social features of the MMO are going to evolve, I hope. Challenging game at times that I hope will change and grow over the next few years.

I'm going to keep it short. Any negative review (5 or lower) that says they only played for a few hours you can throw out. Now throw out any review claiming that they didn't get to level 20. Now look at the remaining reviews. What you'll find is that they're mostly positive. Why? Because the game doesn't really start until you reach level 20. Because the game doesn't really start until you reach level 20. The harder missions begin to unlock, the raids open up, more advanced gear boosting various unique abilities open up and start dropping, strikes open up. Sure is the story not really well explained through the campaign? yea, you gotta go online to read it which bugs me. A game should establish the back story in game, not on a separate website. And obviously you're not going to be showered with loot like borderlands so if you don't like a little bit of grinding you may not enjoy this. But the game is solid, the multiplier is fun, and it really begins to open up past level 20 and becomes a unique FPS in a league of its own. Also any review of 0 is just plain wrong, as no game deserves a 0 unless it is completely broken on all fronts. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all let me start of by saying there are a few things you need to know to get the full enjoyment from Destiny. First, the game is pretty boring and difficult if you try to play solo. It becomes infinitely better when joined by 1 or 2 friends. Second, you should adjust the sensitivity for aiming because for some reason the starting is just 3. Now that that is out of the way let me just say Destiny is amazing fun. The strikes are super intense even with 3 people. The strike on the moon with the giant chained up Ogre is madness. I can't even imagine what will be in the raid. I haven't had one connection error since the midnight launch which is amazing for the launch of an always online game. Play the game and judge for yourselves, don't be swayed by all of the trolls or misinformed people giving it 1s. Expand

So far I am really enjoying the game. It has a Warframe feel to it, but with more polished controls and better shooting mechanics. Loot is delivered at a decent pace, enough to always feel like you are getting more powerful. I love how you can vendor items straight from your inventory. 6v6 matches are intense and varied, and the allowing of vehicles in the matches is fantastic! Not over the top, but still breathtaking.

The one major complaint I have is the lack of match making for PvE missions. You will run into people during your "quests", but for the most part they are doing their own thing and don't want to join you. They really need to add a mission/group board similar to PoE, allowing you to find/advertise for groups as needed. I know this is the number one feature requested by the community, so I expect it will come at some point.

Another thing they need to implement is some form of main city chat. Either by voice or text. SO many people I can't talk to! Also, where is the clan support? It's on Bungie.com but seems to be disabled...

I honestly think they have delivered a fantastic foundation and a truly fun game, and I hope they continue to build upon it. If they maintain an MMO content model with the only purchases past initial game as ~$10 DLC packs, then I am in for awhile.

It's a slick, mechanically sound, and lavishly produced shooter that uses beauty to try and mask the potentially great but uninspired gameplay inside. [Issue#117, p.62]

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.

An ambitious if repetitive combination of shooter and loot based ARPG. A boost in loot drop frequency could definitely boost the fun/score. [Issue#254, p.47]
