I guess people are complaining because they expected an MMO when this game has always clearly been a first pirson shooter. For a shooter fan, this doesnt feel like grinding as it is designed to put you into insane firefights. Best fun Ive had so far is getting a few guys together, turning the difficulty up and going off.

I honestly have yet to find anything I dont like about this game other than the small fire teams (3 max). This one is out of my genre and confort zone but still quite fun. This is not a full MMO, but if your a shooter fan and loved the Halo series, I really dont think you can go wrong!

Borderlands + Halo + Mass effect with a MMO twist to it... simply amazing. There is a very solid PVP in this game, sure it's not balanced or competitive as Halo (especially the coming Halo 5!), but it's still very solid.

Ton of content solo, coop, pvp, "raids", dynamic events... it really is its own thing, love it! easily a 9/10.

Bungie, once again, delivers a game changer. Destiny is an absolutely fantastic game. While it may not be as solid as Halo is to storytelling; or CoD to multiplayer; Diablo/BL2 to loot; or an MMO to what World of Warcraft is; it is without a doubt, the best shooter I have played in recent memory. It borrows aspects from each of those games/genres and makes it it's own experience. In thatBungie, once again, delivers a game changer. Destiny is an absolutely fantastic game. If you want something new and accessible that has great fighting mechanics, excellent visuals, and the opportunity to kick some ass with friends and strangers - and get some crazy loot for doing so - then Destiny should be at the top of your shopping list. Just because the game had hype doesn't mean it will have a campaign story better than TLoU, a PvP better than Halo, and an MMO endgame better than anything in history. THAT is why they are disappointed, because this game is amazing. It is a beautiful mixture of Halo and Borderlands and somehow doesn't feel even remotely close to a copy of either.

To be fair, they do need an online ranking system, and I do believe most of the loot will come from the raids. Keep in mind this game does have an MMO feel, and that means it is going to grow constantly over the next few years with expansions, etc. This game has a huge world, beautiful graphics, and tonnes of gameplay. I am level 20 and about 25 hours in and I cannot get enough. Happy looting!

Initially, I had no interest in this game, as normally I don't like sci-fi shooters. But a few days after its release, me and my friend decided we wanted a co op game to play together, so we thought we would try destiny. We didn't really know what to expect coming in as we hadn't really followed the hype, but my oh my we were very pleasantly surprised. I have since spent hours on the game playing co op and solo, mostly co op. The gunplay and overall controls feel very responsive and polished, this is complemented by an excellent selection of weapons. Along with this, the maps are quite vast and detailed, a real joy to explore especially with your friends, if not a little small. Killing enemies is very satisfying, especially with the sniper rifles. I also like the idea of the tower as the hub for the game, allowing players to take a break from exploring to come and customise their character. Now, the real element of the game that has kept me hooked for hours upon hours is the character progression and customisation. It feels great to receive new armour, helmets and boots that can improve your character as you level up; it really does feel rewarding and reels me in to continue playing. Also the graphics and music are stunning and top notch.

In saying this, the game has its flaws. The story is meh at best with very repetitive mission structure. This didn't bother me personally as I am more interested in the gameplay elements of the game but it is still a flaw. Also, it seems that the number of players on a map is alway very low. It would be great to have 20-30 people on one server, exploring and taking up missions, creating a fantastic mmo atmosphere. Enemy spawning is also sometimes annoying, as often, you kill a group of enemies and leave for a few seconds, and upon returning the VERY same enemies are back in the same location. This is slightly annoying and makes the game a bit predictable in patrol.

Do not let these negatives turn you off of buying this title, as it is still a thoroughly enjoyable experience if time is invested into playing it. All of these people scoring the game between 0 and 4 are kidding themselves, this is a title worth a try.

    So to sum up:

    PROS:
    -Excellent, responsive gunplay/gameplay
    -Great selection of weapons
    -Vast, expansive worlds
    -Amazing character customisation
    -Top notch graphics and music

    CONS:
    -Poor story
    -Repetitive missions
    -Low numbers in worlds
    -Predictable enemy spawns

    Overall score: 8/10 - Great

As a coop game this gets a 9 for me. To play alone without friends or PVP, I'd rank it a 7, but overall, this game is a lot of fun. This is just my opinion. I'm an older experienced gamer (37) with a wife and kids. I can honestly say I've been a gamer for 30+ years. I can honestly say I've been a gamer for 30+ years. At this stage in my life, I don't have the time for (or I choose to prioritize other things over) full blown MMO games. I'm also playing competitive shooters less and less (COD/BF, etc.) as the skill level of the players now days makes it a frustrating experience for me.. With my limited game time, I feel Destiny strikes a perfect balance between a fun coop shooter and an MMO RPG. High level concepts from both genres, but not exceedingly deep in either.

The competitive mode is just okay. Playing the game solo, or should I say, antisocially...is just okay. Co-op, however, has been a fun and rewarding experience that will keep me playing for a while. I have 5 buddies all around my age who also purchased the game. We've been tackling missions on the hardest settings and building our characters to compliment each other's strengths & weaknesses. When I do have time to play, I have had a blast with this game and all of my friends feel the same way. There's just enough of an RPG element to keep me wanting to play more, upgrade and make my character as bada** as I can. As a shooter it satisfies my desire to shoot things and embark on these strange lands with friends and kick a** together. This game is made to be played socially in order to really get the full experience. However, I think those wanting a hardcore competitive shooter, or a deep MMO experience will find themselves lacking. This likes somewhere casually between the two. The best experience in my own opinion has been playing co-op. Setting the difficulty high and having to really watch each other's backs, save up your special attacks for the perfect moment, etc. All of these things keep things intense and very enjoyable. I love this game but if you don't have friends who will play with you, it might not be as fun for you.

The first thing you notice about this game is its sheer beauty. The second... Peter Dinklage! So far so good.

So why does this game get a 5 from me? Because there's nothing else. The missions (whether additional or story) are all pretty much identical. The amazement of discovering a new world each time a planet is unlocked is soon dampened by the realisation that whilst the enemies look different, the mission parameters are identical. This repetition alongside very limited customisations to weapons and vehicles and a lack of class specific characterisations left me very disappointed. Despite the unfathomable depth of the scenery in this game, the only word I can use to describe it is shallow.
Maybe DLC and patches will fix this game for future players and those willing to pay for it time and time again, but for me it feels like an amazing game that got aborted somewhere along the way, packaged and fired out in to the stores.
I'd love to say the game is redeemed by its multiplayer, but that's simply not the case. The matchmaking isn't good enough for the amount of time it takes and the maps/weapons/vehicles are no better than Halo 2, a game released a decade ago.
Really disappointing. Worth a few hours of your time but I fear the longevity of this game won't extend past that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not someone who tends to care for reviews and the negativity towards this title shows the reason why. This has been great for me and friends. The ability to switch between X1 and 360 means I have also been able to play with everyone at some point. The only downside I can site is the max 3 man fire teams for Coop gameplay. As someone who lives in a house with 5 Xbox 360s, this is a little disappointing. Expand

I have played it non-stop since I bought it on release day. I wasn't prepared for how hooked I would become on the multiplayer. The balance and mechanics are amazing - if this game only had the loot and multiplayer aspects it would still be a hit IMO. I'm so hooked on the multiplayer and dropping in to the odd strike that I'd say I'm less than halfway through the story, and I'm level 26.Having said that, I haven't it a 10 because what I have played of the story didn't grab as much as I had hoped.

I think the thing that really hurt this game is the feverish hype it generated. Bungie and Activision did what you'd expect any company to do. I think it came from media and fans who had played the beta. People had this ultimate gaming utopia in their mind and, not surprisingly, Destiny did not perfectly fill it for most people.

The fact that this game is from Bungie and people were led to believe that this game was the Halo of the 8th generation did not allow any room for failure or constructive interpretation. My suggestion is buy the game as if you have never heard of it before and know nothing of its pre release hype and expectations and play the game with a clean slate and neutral mind. You'll be surprised how engaging and entertaining this game can be with the right mindset.

Let me start off by saying that I understand why some people are disappointed. But, while Destiny may seem lackluster in some regards, that is far from the truth.

Destiny is, at it's core, is a very gameplay driven experience. Any one who played the Halo trilogy will probably understand the genius of the subtle AI variety between different types of enemies, and the extremely polished shooting and movement mechanics that have been implemented here. The gameplay has elements like these that, to the uncritical eye, may seem "dull" or "boring", but upon further examination have an immense amount of thought put into them. As well, the game has a surprisingly robust RPG character management layered in. On top of this, the fact that your guardian perfectly fits into a multiplayer arena, that at launch seems to have very little balancing issues, is an astonishing feat of game making that only a studio like Bungie or Rockstar could pull off. So, what about the story?

Well, A wouldn't even say that Destiny has a "Narrative" per say. It's more of an layered back story and current world state that you are dropped into. If you are looking for something like what Halo or Bioshock brings to the table story-wise, look elsewhere because that is not what is being offered here. Like I said earlier, this is a gameplay driven experience, like Counterstrike, or Pac Man. But unlike those titles, Destiny puts one of the most exhilarating coats of paint I have ever seen in my 15 years of gaming on top of this core experience.

The presentation. Wow, just wow. The atmosphere, the immersion, the sound, just about everything presentation wise is nothing short of brilliant. Never have I been pulled into a console game this much just due to how it presents itself. The rustic wasteland of Old Russia, the creepy baroness of the moon, the wide open dunes of mars, and a handful of other locales all look (and play) very uniquely. Not to mention the incredibly varied ambiance that exists in each area (props to the audio team). It is a combination of the gorgeous visuals and deeply layered sound design that really transcend all the other elements of the game. And obviously Marty O'Donnell can not be overlooked here, he delivers as usual with a soundtrack that is both atmospheric and energetic. Never has a game that is so gameplay driven, given me this much incentive to stop and smell the roses.

I hope I have gotten my point across: It is the subtle things that Bungie delivers in droves with Destiny. So take your time with this game, enjoy the environments and the lore which drip with atmosphere, because Bungie has managed to create a very rich experience without the shackles of a typical narrative. You make your own story, so have a little imagination and appreciate the world that is Destiny. Any one who loves playing games, and who truly appreciates the craft of game making, should buy Destiny in a heartbeat. It is reminiscent of Halo: Combat Evolved in how simple, yet complex it can be. On the surface, it is amazing fun to just shoot aliens in the face with big guns, but underneath that surface, a truly interesting and intriguing universe exists, begging to be explored. I honestly believe that this game is a masterpiece, and I expect very high critical praise once the reviews start rolling in. Props to Bungie and everyone involved in the project.

VERY LONG TIME GAMER REVIEW. I played atari and got a NES system when they were brand new. Have played almost every system released since, even 3do.

THIS IS AN UPDATED REVIEW AFTER PLAYING FOR ONE WEEK I AM RETAINING MY 9 RATING as some of my only issues have already been corrected. I did not consider them in my original first impression review as they seemed like day one launch type glitches that are usually resolved immediately. And they were. So maybe 9.5

    The Negative:

    1. Server issues. I don't want to see another code "fly" "hare" or "centipede" again, EVER! This game seems to be 100% connected and requires internet access to play at all times. This is scary considering how fun this game is. If the achilles heal here is the internet or server access. UPDATE: The server issues have settled, as I have not had more than 1 or 2 disconnections since the day one issues. I've noticed a couple of updates that hopefully fixed the problem. Also, one issue I noticed was with the sound. This still seems to be an issue and it occurs when you leave the game for some time and maybe "xbox go to TV" for a bit and then come back. Whenever I returned, I would have sound for xbox commands but not for the game itself. FULL REBOOT needed. Now I can just re-sign in and it seems to correct the sound. FIX THIS!

    2. Repetitiveness - As any long time or informed gamer will know, every game is repetitive to an extent. Historically some of the most simple and repetitive games are also the most successful, ie PacMan. It is expected and to base your whole negative review on that element says a lot about how much you do not understand about yourself and games. The only negative thing I feel when I play this game, when it comes to repetitiveness is with the levels themselves. It takes away from the richness, realness and diversity of each individual level or mission when you have already been to the exact same area in a previous one. It is still challenging, just distracting. It feels cheap and adds a rushed feel when you encounter this as a gamer. It's kind of like when you compare the original "Yoda" from Star Wars vs the CGI Yoda of the newer Star Wars. The original Yoda was more life-like and convincing. With the original puppet Yoda, you were not distracted by thoughts of the CGI version like, "I wonder if the actor was actually talking to someone when they acted out this scene or if they were pretending someone was there??" That is kind of how I felt about the recycling of the levels, it was distracting and took away from the reality or real factor as you try to imagine a real life situation that would warrant coming back to the same place over and over again to fight a different enemy... "Why didn't we just do that the first time we were here?"

    3. Difficulty Settings Are Limited - I love the challenge of increasing the challenge, but that is difficult to do from a single player standpoint. You only get two choices in this and it is possible that you could select a difficulty making the completion of the level impossible or too time consuming. This may be irrelevant as this game is very well balanced and seems to adjust to you, never dull or never too easy on "normal."

    4. Lack of social presence. Seems crazy when you consider you see other players all the time in this game. This is unlike Rockstar's "Red Dead" where you could chat within proximity of other players. You cannot chat with others unless you are partied up.

    The good:

    1. This game is so well balanced it is like a hybrid of a reality based game, first person shooter, and fantasy. Almost everything can be customized, ranked up, and expanded upon. Your stats, gear, and record are public and comparing with friends is very easy. Which for any competitive player, will suck you right in. You can add some variety to your character by adding and ranking up sub-classes as you go. I have only touched on this and it seems exciting and strategically challenging. Your classes only grow with level rank increase so you begin questioning, "Do I focus on my primary class or secondary?" Your rank is your rank. It and your weapons carry over from the storyline to multiplayer. I love this, it reduces the learning curve and encourages more people to play multiplayer versus.

    2. Social factor - As of this review conversing freely with other players is not happening. But the presence of other players carrying out their missions distant from you and sometimes crossing with your objective, is really cool.

3 Visually stunning you will stop and gaze.

The bottom line: This is a great game. The negative are very minor in comparison to the addictiveness, fun, challenge, and richness of this game. If you buy this game you will not be disappointed.

Destiny's genre is something very hard to define, its like Halo crossed with borderlands, crossed with mass effect and some MMO type stuff thrown in too. For me that results in a beautiful mix of genres I love.

    - Graphics are pretty solid, very nice background artwork seen in the form of skies and mountain ranges.
    - Solid controls easy to get used to
    - Rewarding upgrade system and levelling
    - Good variety of stuff to do (PvP, solo, co-op strike missions)

I am absolutely hooked on this game and am hoping to be fulfilled with the end game too. If any of the games mentioned above that are similar interest you, definitely check this out.

The 4 initial guns are fairly different, a pistol that does heavy damage but has limited rounds in the barrel, a pulse gun, a semi that fires on shot at a time for precision and an automatic. My secondary was a sniper rifle which was great, though you have a limited amount of ammo. You do get ammo when killing enemies.

The missions are fun, but they are typical MMO (yes this is an MMO, not an MMORPG) go here kill that, find that, scan that, etc. Nothing super innovative but fun. The game looks great, no frame rate issues. The music is fantastic. You can coop w friends (not tried that yet) or you can run around and assist others or have them help you without being coop'd. I did not try PVP. There seems to be a large universe but it opens slowly. Lots of gear, some customization of weapons. There's not a lack of stuff to do.

The not so good. It can be repetitive, the missions are similar, lots of enemies that respawn. I think when there are more people playing you may have to wait a bit to finish some objectives. There's not much story, but what there is can be cool.

Overall it's solid, but if you don't like FPS, then don't buy it. If you expect this to be WOW don't buy it. If you enjoyed the Halo combat this is similar.

Probably over 20 hours so far so read this review if you want actual info on the game and not just rage quitters 0/10 no help reviews. Destiny is an MMO FPS shooter. So what that means is you can play with your friends and explore the inner solar system with your friends and even some strangers. You start off on Earth and like most RPG's there is a short tutorial to get you some basic gear and teach you basic controls. After that you can do quite a few different things and the world opens up quite a bit. Under the Hood- Technically I could not be more happy with this game. It looks great on the Xbox One and also on the Xbox 360. I have not seen it yet on PS4 but I'm sure it looks good there too. Graphics are not everything but good graphics also doesn't hurt either. I found myself just walking around looking at stuff as there is tons of detail and environmental effects to take in. It being an online only game worried me a bit. I can't speak for everyone but both during the Beta and my first night of playing it went totally ok. I expected some issues on day one and there were none, nada, not any. That's amazing and I can't believe it hasn't been talked about more. Many, many online only games have all had major issues at launch. GTA Online was unplayable for example for quite a few people for the first week. Just saying. Did everyone forget that? I guess so. The sound design is also top notch. Many gamers play with terrible tv speakers or cheap gamer headphones all the time so they probably won't notice this at all but I did and wow. The game sounds amazing in 5.1 surround and my subwoofer really enjoys telling me when things explode. The effects are fantastic as well. While you are indoors with a metal wall it sounds like it. You don't have the exact same samples played for every situation. Why is this a big deal? Its a big deal because they paid a lot of attention to details to make this game both look and sound top notch because you will be playing it for hundreds of hours. These little details will pay off at hour # 100 for sure. Gameplay- The gameplay for me is very familiar, fluid, and fun. The gunplay is like most modern shooters. Left trigger aims, right trigger shoots, reload is x, etc, etc. I play a lot of FPS games so I felt right at home with the controls. I can't speak for the PS4 because I don't own one but the XB1 controller feels made for this game. You get a ton of feedback from the controller at all times. This is the first XB1 game I've played that so far has used the new tech they put in the triggers. So the shooting is really fun. After level 2 or 3 you get your own speeder bike. Its as cool as it sounds and you can basically ride that around and have a great time if you wanted to. They need to add in speeder bike races if they didn't already! I played as the Hunter class because I did in the Beta and I really like the double jump and the knife throwing that character can do. I have friends that use the other classes and they seem pretty fun too. If you play in a group it might be best to have a mix of classes for best effect, ymmv. Story ( no spoilers ) - There is a story but it seems more of tool to facilitate you shooting more aliens. I for one don't mind this at all. There are cut scenes but they are short and I think you can even skip them. The cut scenes are really well done though so at least the first time I'd maybe give them a watch. I can already tell there is a lot more that is going to open up after I level up more but I'm in no hurry to get there. For me its more about the journey than the destination especially with a brand new game. Play it for yourself here. Gripes- A minor gripe and this is more of a personal preference is there is very little humor. Its very dry like Halo in that serious stuff is going down and you have to fix it. Such drama! So if you love Borderlands for its humor ( and you should ) don't get this expecting the same. If you are playing this with a group of friends and you really should be you can make your own humor. This is the only reason I gave it a 9 and not a 10. My other gripe and its almost not one is the load times. They are a bit long I think but at the same time they are some of the best loads screens ever. You see your spaceship flying around and you can even customize this later on in the game. So this really could be a positive in the long run. Overall 9/10 - If you like FPS, RPG's, are a gamer, etc give it a shot on your console of choice. I plan on putting many hours into this myself so if see a human Hunter on XB1 that lays waste to aliens like a pro it just might be me. Happy gaming. Expand

Those that we're giving this game a low review either don't own it and just don't want others to have fun or are completely lying. This game is exactly what I expected, an immersive game that gives you a lot to do. The only reason is that it isn't a 10 is because of the load time and method used to travel from one spot to another.

All the positive and negative reviews are useless at this point because unless you've played this game for the last 24 hours or so in one sitting, then you don't know anything about the game.

This game is massive and there's so much to see and do that no decent reviewer or gamer would dare to review it at this point. Saying that, my review and score are based on my first 8-9 hours in the Destiny universe.

Firstly, this game is a great social experience. Get a fireteam together and head off the Devils Lair and you will pick up loads of loot and have a great time taking down the "bosses". Scouring the Cosmodrome for jobs and loot is a great way to pass the time and now and again, a public event drops in and the guardians in the area band together to take down a walker.

There's a lot to unlock, from armour and guns to sparrows and ships. Then there's the Crucible, if you want to scratch your competitive MP itch. For me this is the weakest part of Destiny and feels a little lightweight compared to Halo's MP. The map design isn't great but I'm sure the DLC will sort that out.

So to sum up so far, Destiny's first few hours in Co-op are excellent and that's where it's strength lies. Give it time and it will grow on you. It's more of an MMO than say Halo, so the more you put in, the more you get out.

Go buy it and have fun. Oh and add me on XBL, gamertag: monkeyofthefunk.

I feel they have done a great job at bringing two major game types into one. Those being the FPS and MMORPG (kind of). This obviously isn't the MMORPG in a traditional sense, but it does have elements that help to satiate us who enjoy that game type.

I suggest taking your time with this game. Don't simply run through the storyline, because as many have stated, that will be boring. Do some story missions, explore on patrol with bounties, head over to PVP, team up with some friends for co-op. There are so many elements to this game that I feel are being ignored by people simply chewing up the storyline content and then giving negative reviews.

Overall, are the story missions a little repetitive? Yeah. But, there is so much more content here that you can really immerse yourself into the world. This game truly has all the elements I am looking for - PVP, RPG, raiding, co-op play, character growth...Very please with the game.

Take your time in the beginning and it will pay off in spades.

This game is everything and in some ways more than what I expected.

I think that it is silly of people to give this game a score of 0. To me that means a game does not even exist. Destiny is in no way not playable. It is quite the opposite. I too was pulled in by the hype, but all the hype never showed me what Destiny is not. All of the hype to me was true to what the game is.

And also some cool looking, and useful armor upgrades. There is even an in depth class system that it fun to mess with.

Fantastic game. Some mildly repetitive stuff once you hit max level but that's the nature of MMOs, not sure why people are complaining. Once you get to L26-28 difficulty stuff the challenge far outweighs the fact you're repeating something. It's like redoing Halo on Legendary with friends, I love it.

    - RPG Mechanics 6: This game needs bots for party members, badly. More on this below.
    - Overall Polish 9: Outstanding, AAA level next gen game. Unbelievable level of polish given its ambitions.

The problem people have with Destiny is that it failed to live up to its RPG expectations. In my mind I'm thinking of what Dragon's Crown did right in allowing bots as party members, making human party members optional. Even more to the point, Dragon's Crown allowed human party members to later be recruited to your party permanently as a bot. This is the missing link that Destiny needs.

A quick note about the enemy AI, I think Destiny needs to borrow a page from Titanfall. Titanfall uses bots to populate the crowd, but key adversaries (titans and their pilots) are human players. The way Titanfall pulled this off was by rewarding players who randomly joined campaign battles, even if they had already started. Destiny would improve dramatically if human characters could phase into a running firefight during a campaign mission.

Many lament that Destiny isn't Borderlands, and I think this is the perfect summary of complaints. If Destiny was Borderlands with Halo laid over top then it would be perfect. Personally I wish I had waited a week or two to pick up a used copy, which is what I recommend if you haven't yet bought it.

It feels like an actual awesome first person shooter with an MMO feel which I have been craving for some time. The reason why I am not giving this game a 10 is because there is no economy to this game. What I mean is that in SWTOR and WoW I was able to make things and sell those items on the AH to make some money so I can buy something cool later on. I was kind of let down when I saw that they did not have that in this game.

Also, I am a sucker for being a role player in all MMORPGs and for there not to be a healing class is kind of a let down. I know it is not needed because health regenerates like nothing, but here's to them fixing it *crosses fingers*.
Lastly, the only other thing is more of a question: Will raiding be the same as it is in most other MMO's? Will the raid leader be able to mark up enemies for certain groups in the raid to attack? Will there be several different dynamics to a raid boss and not have him just run and gun? We have yet to find out, but here is to me hoping the raids are awesome which I think they will be.
PVP is a blast and so are some of the PVE quests. I think it's great they have factions that you can build reputation with who also provide gear if you have a descent amount of rep with that particular faction. Overall the game is a blast and I would encourage others to invest in it.

I'm still learning the mechanics, but have been enjoying myself greatly. The bad things, it is a bit repetitive. And so far, the story does seem to be a bit lacking. But that is balanced with the multi-player facet. I don't have that many gaming friends, and I really like how it's a living world with other players in it, you can stumble on someone needing help at any given moment, but you are not really forced to be in a team in the story line missions. You really don't need to be matched up with people, or have a team pre-selected to play. I totally disagree with all these negative scores. None of the DLC has come out yet, and this is the 1st release of the IP. I never played Halo, but I can't imagine that it had such a gripping storyline from the start. This game is much better then Titanfall, at least it has a campaign and story line. I say give it a try, and be willing to join in some fun with complete strangers. The game encourages teaming up with group events on a map -- and that was really fun. Is it a 10? No, but it's not a 0 by far either. I think comparing it to Halo or any other game is moot, it needs to be scored on it's own, not by comparing other games to it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Simply put right now, Destiny is somewhat of a Masterpiece in this modern age of games in terms of what it is and what it evolves into. For those who are into the mainstream "Call of Duty" shooter, this game is not meant for your kind. With a unique take on the MMO side of things. Destiny does what old shooter use to be about; Team work and Skill. You learn your class, you get your gear and play in a style that can be uniquely your own. When it comes to Strikes, Raids, and Crucible however, you HAVE to work as a team. There is no "Lone Wolfing" your way through Crucible matches and not playing objectively; that sort of "CoD" behavior as you will, gets you killed and gets you no where. The enemies are compelling and provide challenge when out in the field; actual intelligent enemies that will try to flank you. This isn't "lob a thousand grenades" this is "move around your cover, get in your face, and beat you down" sort of intelligent, which I find quite nice to have an actual challenge, and overcoming that is even better.

For Story, it is short and sweet; Darkness is bad, you are a Guardian who can wield the Light as a weapon, go beat it up. For those who say the story was lacking? Have you played the the first Halo game? "These aliens are bad and are trying to kill us all. Kill them first and save the universe"! Bam, Blockbuster game. The story isn't about what had already happened, it is what is happening NOW. As a Guardian, you are part of the every going struggle to fight for what is left of the world and the solar system. This isn't about what happened, but whats going to happen and YOU are the author of that story. If you want back story, read your Grimiores for something more in depth. Yes, that's reading, but it isn't required so stop whining about story already.

For those saying it is like Borderlands? Clearly someone hasn't played enough FPS, MMO's and RPG's to understand the claim they just made. Borderlands is purely meant to be a shooter that's hysterical, doesn't take itself seriously, and gives out weapons like candy at Halloween. Destiny does have a similar weapon system, but "similar" is not the same as "ripoff Borderlands". Playing the games together might make people understand that better.

For those who say it's just like Halo? No, Halo is Halo, Destiny is its own unique kind. The enemies have a unique take to them and have their own unique flavor but you can see where the inspirations come from when you look at them. The Fallen are your Covenant ((Halo series)), the Hive are your Locust ((Gears of War)), your Vex are your Reapers ((Mass Effect)) and the Cabal are no less then your Space Marines ((Space Marines)). The story is not revolved around THE hero, but A hero. You are not Master Chief, you are not Commander Sheperd and you are not Marcus Fenix. You are a soldier of Light, working with many just like you toward the same goal.

Lastly, the grind. Yes, it IS a game where you grind levels to max level. Yes, it IS a game you farm for better gear and weapons in order to get to further content. BUT!! This is an MMO RPG FPS, so OF COURSE there will be grinding involved. If none of you every played a game like WoW, I can see your frustration, but **** about it isn't going to change it. This is a first of its kind ((at least in terms of scale and uniqueness, I don't know about any other MMO RPG FPS)) so complaining about it "not being Call of Duty" shows what kind of poor gamer you are.

Bland shooter? Repetitive game play? Clearly those who say this don't know what they want, or have played enough bad shooters that their opinions are completely one sided. For "professional" reviewers to be upset about lack of content tells me they never did much when they played, as there is plenty to do once you reach max level. Strikes are fun and action packed, Crucible is what I expected a Bungie shooter to be which is well balanced playing fields for PvP. Getting Legendary and Exotic items is always exciting and that feeling of accomplishment you get is oh so nice. This is the kind of game that true gamers have come to appreciate as it goes back to what shooters were once about; team work, skill, but overall fun and compelling to play. In an industry filled with mediocre shooters, many gamers have no sense of value for a game quite like this, and many of those shooters lack challenge and finesse.

The game has some faults, like lack of communication with other players, and just a couple glitches, but overall the game is great. It provides a good challenged it feels good overcoming them, you relate more to your character because he isn't THE hero, but a hero among the many. And lastly, the game evolves as you play; it changes as you level up and gain new abilities and becomes entirely different when you reach max level. Don't believe me? Play it yourself and find out on your own.

You need to look deeply at that fact for the reason this game is a 10. It's because of some of the problems that make you want to play.

Most people want to approach it like any other game by completely dominating it in the shortest time possible before moving on. This is impossible due to the rarity of items and is not how this game should be played. Its meant to take months to get to level 30.

Spread the fun out. No farming! Spend a couple hours every day completing your daily's and get your weekly's done when you have extra time. Don't rush into the higher level stuff and just know that you'll get there eventually. This game has true potential and you'll be hitting yourself in the future if you only approached this game with the goal to reach level 30.

The most important thing is for people to stop bombing the reviews so terribly. This game has many flaws, but that also means that it still has a lot of potential and I want to see that potential be seized in Destiny 2. Don't take that away from everyone by ruining the chances for a sequel.

This game will have you clocking in hours, and I'm sure that even the people negatively reviewing it are putting more time into the game then they would care to admit. People need to realize that games are meant to be for FUN. What it lacks, or has too much of, does not matter. It is the most excellent shooter I've played to date. The graphics, mechanics, weapons and abilities all contribute for a well rounded and enjoyable experience. The open world concept with other gamers continuously around is a great way to make it more fun too, being able to interact with other players. Bungie did a GREAT job at this game, and anyone who says otherwise is likely a "glass half empty" sort of person. Destiny is great, fun, beautiful, smooth, and all around possibly my favourite FPS of all time. Thank you Bungie, and goodbye internet blogging keyboard warriors who have nothing better to do than negatively remark about great games. Expand

Its a great game i don't know why people have to go on and say its a rip off of borderlands and halo. Some people are giving this game bad reviews and never tried the game and some are just saying its boring but to me i keep on playing it because of the looting the rewards and leveling up it keeps you worked up on getting awesome gear! 8.5

Destiny isn't a bad game, it's just not the promised game. The story and the story telling is worse, but the co-op fun in Strikes is at the moment the best you can find on a next-gen console. I played the game for over 30 hours, and still have fun. The PvP was at the beginning terrible for me, but after some time I managed it to get on the top.

The only negative is some of the detailed stuff is hard to figure out and isn't' super intuitive. There is a lot of mystery and "figuring it out" to get all the value of each feature. If you're impatient, it works against you.

However the elegant blend of co-op, single player, and competitive game play hasn't been accomplished yet. I have a feeling the younger crowd just wants to level up and be uber and kill n00bs.. every other game is for them.

I am about 4-5 hours in and have Earth, The Moon and the Crucible now open to me. These initial missions have been developed so that people can adjust to the gentle nuances between this FPS and others (I keep hitting the RB button for grenade which is a little frustrating), I can understand why some people very early on the release day stated it is a repetitive grind as the initial missions are a little cut and paste, However this has been developed to be an epic saga spanning the galaxy and yet early criticisers have barely escaped the gravitational pull of earth before hurling unwarranted criticism at this game. The game feels well balanced and the shooting mechanics are excellent, time will tell whether the more exotic weapons others have bemoaned as lacking appear. I don't know where all the trolls come from on this website, but this game is basically the cornerstone of fps's. It really shines once you get past the first planet. The moon really sold it to me specifically the sword of croata mission. 10/10 would pay $60 again.

Fantastic gameplay. Looks great on the one. Story has me interested. Is the story as good as Halo? Of course not. It doesn't have to be. Great game all around. Looking forward to playing more.

A 0 is a game thats broken and will not play a 5 is a game in the middle of the ground. Now that said lets give this gem a real review. Destiny is a Shooter first and foremost that has some light rpg leveling to it. The gunplay is as tight as anything on the market, then guns have a nice feel to them ans aiming is spot on. The servers which you are tied to are more stable then any launch game Ive seen to date. The worlds are detailed and draw you in the rain in the jungles of venus drip on your screen making you feel like your their. Enemies who once you barely survived soon run in fear as you come back leveled up. The guns have all your bases covered, sniper, assault, hand guns, rocket launchers, shotguns and a few extras for fun. As good as the gunplay is the real treat here is using the light of the traveler to destory your foes. This is were the rpg elements come into play and have a somewhat mass effect feel to them which is great imo, using you massive powers to wipe out waves of enemies is a thrill like no other game can offer. The multiplayer which is built in at the core is top notch you may find yourself at the edge of defeat when someone else will come along in the nick of time, the singleplayer elements are also top notch. The story is great and has that Halo, Stars Wars, Mass effect feel to it. The strike team missions are among the best co-op out there and should not be missed killing massive enemies with a squad is the best part of this game. PvP is there in all its glory it has vehicles, powers, and a few new twist and a great feel to the progression of it and great rewards. There really is not enough great things to say about this game it is the best shooter on the market the blend of singleplayer, multiplayer, and MMO forms a hybrid that is hard to put down. If your a fan of Sci-Fi this is a must have, if your a fan of great shooters this is a must have, if your a fan of building a character into the savior of the World this is a must have. Or if you just love great games and shooting people in the face with a rocket launcher this is a must have. This game lives up to all its hype and so much more do yourself a favor and go to the store and live you Destiny I for one will see you there. Expand

There is no way that critic or gamer has had anywhere close to enough time to evaluate game play and see if the endgame is worth it. Grinding through a game just to get to the top isn't playing a game. It isn't exploring and learning and experiencing. I would love to see the halfway decent, competent review that has come out since the game released that hits everything. Yes everything. Because until you can do that you are not qualified to give a proper score.
This game is something different and it seems that people hate change. It is fun and I haven't found questing or general exploration to be anything but a hoot. The only problem is that the multiplayer matching system can seem a bit unbalanced even though it is supposed to even everyone out. But then again COD does the same thing and that's all people play in that game.
This is a long term endeavor. Something that won't take the weekend for you to complete. Don't expect to find everything out of the gate. Don't expect to get overpowered. For those who like to play like that then nothing will every satisfy you because you are more interested in blowing other people away rather than enjoying the game. Maybe it isn't always about being the best and winning all the time. Maybe sometimes it is just about enjoying the game. Pffffft. Like you all aren't going to rip that line apart.
Give the game a try. You might like it.

To be fair I started judging this game shortly after Bungie handed off the reins to 343 after reach was launched. The initial rumblings were a kin to a mmo but with shooter aspects. This intrigued me. long have I thought that Bungie could have done something like this with the halo franchise but I digress. The game play feels solid. Shooting mechanics are as to be expected in a vary Bungie style. The super ability are thought out and as for cool down time I am not sure why people complain about it. If you are frugle and work on your building your character you can unlock armor that drastically reduces the time need to build that up. Also if you pay attention to your level upgrades you can decrease it even further. The levels are huge in patrol mode and in story missions they still feel large but they do not let you stray to far from your goal. Once you hit a firefight you are in for a treat. They are tight and full of action. You will be looking for cover a lot if you have a low level character but that is a good thing if you were a tank right off the bat it would not be as enjoyable when you unlock really good gear. I would like to address a few comments at this point about communication. Yes you have to invite people to chat with you in order to organize you fire team. with that said most of the time I will never talk to you but I will help you, kill things, and revive you if you need that. Most players use to proximity mics and open headset screaming will not like this game because it is not for you. We have COD and Halo for that. Go play those games. This is a MMO lite. As for grinding for gear and weapons. That is inherent apart of rpgs. I knew that going in. if you know that going in you will do just fine and enjoy the game. The one thing holding this game back is the less than informative story. If you want to know what is going on you have to go to Bungie.net and look at the cards you unlock. (by the way if you upgrade cards on their you will get extra bonuses in game.) That is a little annoying. That is my only issue. The worlds are huge fun to play in the game play is frantic at times and slow when needed. I also fee that at the "end of the game" the real game starts. With raids and high level replays the game gets new legs.

At the end of the day I love the game. The little things that annoy me are just that little and I think the story missions with the expansion pass will greatly increase the playability of the game for years to come. My final notes. Please disregard the day one reviews. Anyone bold enough to shout out "Terrible not worth your money." has not had time to truly play the game and ultimately has not the experience nor the knowledge to truly rate the game and is just click bate. also I will add one * to my review. I enjoy Bungie game. I have owned many. I also have not enjoyed playing cod or battlefield. So also please take my review with a grain of salt. I like Bungie. I have fallowed them for a long time and at the end of the day if you see me come say hi or join in a dance party. If you need help reach out to the Bungie community and someone will answer your call. This game is not for the what I like to call "Bro game" but is truly for the rpg mmo crowd that enjoys a good shooter.

It's kind of its own thing that borrows a lot of concepts from other games, merges them all nicely--some more than others--and polishes everything so well that if the sun were out it would blind you. It's doing what it wants to do very, very well.

However, a lot of people get the wrong picture, or expect the wrong thing, or just "don't get it" so I'm going to clear a lot of the misconceptions up right now, as neutrally as possible, so as to guide people who are on the fence or help people who don't seem to like it learn to like it more for what it is and not what they were expecting it to be.

Destiny is first and foremost a co-op game, and is greatly enhanced by playing with a tight-knit group of friends. It is also about "grinding." The thing about grinding though, is that it isn't really a grind when you're doing it with your friends. Destiny creates this great play space for your friends to hook up for a few hours and just blow **** up together, whilst slowly gaining power for bigger, crazier things (Storms, Raids, etc).
Destiny's core play model seems to be to lay the groundwork for continual "grind" style advancement, but then serve that up on a silver platter with fun, polished gameplay, frenetic action, and doing it all with your friends, all at easily choosable and switchable levels of difficulty and depth while being able to flip to PvP at the drop of a hat.

It is not without its flaws. The first few hours of pacing are really awful compared to everything mid-Moon and on. Similarly, the game doesn't really hit full stride until you, and your friends, hit max level and you all start gunning for super difficult stuff as a team. Thankfully this only takes about 12-14 hours to get to, and it's not like the game isn't smooth and fun up till then anyway.
The storytelling excels in some places (Venus-endgame/Awoken arc) and falls super flat in others (Ghost's VAing, Dinklage I am disappoint). Many things are not explained well, if at all (bounties, transferring gear between characters, how vendor rep/levels and faction rep works).

All in all, for what it sets out to do, it hits home well enough to have a truck load of staying power, especially if they really ratchet out the expansions and DLC quickly.

In terms of just wanting to hang out with friends and blow **** up while feeling a sense of advancement and at the same time opting in or out of competition at my discretion, this is totally going to be my number one go to now. It hits all those marks with flying colors, at least for me. I just hope enough of my bros stick with it when the dust settles.

    TL;DR
Destiny is co-op loot grind game at its core and if you don't like that then it won't appeal to you at all, but it's the first FPS style one that really gets it right. The gunplay is great, the graphics are fantastic, the underlying design is solid, and the UI/menus/feedback/HUD should be an industry standard.
Bungie cast a mortar and pestle out of gold, polished the crap out of it, made it **** out candy and explosions while you did it, and put in up to five extra handles for your friends.

I can only assume the reason this game has a 5.0 average user rating as of this review due to the fact that half of the players were expecting something else, and the other half realize what it is and like it.

The gameplay itself is fantastic, the controls are very smooth and fluid which makes for fun general gameplay. The PvP and Strike missions at level 20 really help to spice the game up, especially if you're playing with friends, it gives a challenge aspect and I do mean CHALLENGE. The game just needs more content (which is coming up in the near future DLC) and it'll be golden.

Destiny is its own unique game and I enjoy every bit of it. I REALLY like how they did the endgame piece that there is another stat on armor, called Light, that is what brings you past lvl 20. So it means that if you are with all lvl 22 players then you have around the same level of equipment. This makes endgame strikes(dungeons) and raids a lot easier to play, as you can clearly see that a lvl 20 player doesn't have good enough gear for a lvl 24 or 26 strike.

The shooting mechanics are perfect, weapons handle really well, and there are so many skills and abilities that it will take months to really understand each classes full potential.

The story is purposefully vague, you are piecing together what happened to mankind, and although some cut scenes can feel cliché, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am a huge science fiction fan, and I think the trickle of information you receive is perfect to have you pondering what is really going on behind everything. I do admit I was expecting more character development of some key roles, but I accept this story as a sort of introduction to the world that is Destiny.

If you ever played through an FPS such as Halo a second time, just for the joy of shooting things, this is the game for you. Once you finish the 20-ish story missions, you can play any of them again (set to your level or higher to make it actually challenging) and continue earning loot/xp etc to strengthen your character. Patrol lets you loose in the semi-open maps of each planet, and while this is where you will notice the limitations of the games 'encouragement' to explore, I cant really see "I want more areas to explore" as a negative point. Strikes are a bit more challenging, but have matchmaking so you never face them alone.

Not being alone is a gigantic advantage in Destiny, not only to help out during a mission/strike/PvP match, but also just to have a great time with friends, showing off the new piece of loot you just received, or ability unlocked. There is something magical about joining a friend to find that they are pinned down, and you can make the difference between they're life and death by charging in and destroying the enemies.

At any time you can head to the Crucible for PvP Competitive game mode, and take all the abilities you have learned, along with the perks you have unlocked on your hard earned guns/armor, and face off against other guardians in typical FPS PvP game modes. Level advantages don't apply in the Crucible (except in separate special events) so everyone has a fair chance, your level 8 weapons will hit as hard as the same weapons from level 20, but if you have spent the time levelling your gun to get the fast reload perk, that will be available in PvP.

The thing that makes this game so special is that everything you do, from levelling up in PvP, Patrolling Mars to get that Relic Iron you need to level your armor, or completing the Daily Heroic Story Mission for some extra vanguard reputation, it is all beneficial to your hero, and your friends can join you anytime to help out.

This game is not perfect, but no game is, and every game I have loved in the past has had features that I feel could of made it better. I even have some ideas for Destiny, I would of loved friendly aliens, multi-form bosses, or just more content, but they are just dreams, and I can't justify criticising a game for not meeting my ridiculous expectations. Destiny is already blending together everything I love about fiction fantasy and video games; and all I really want is more of it.

Destiny is the closest thing to the perfect game that I have ever played. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys video games.

And for the 0 score reviews I say - if you can't find some happiness in this game, than maybe gaming is not for you.

Don't listen to the whiny crybabies, Destiny is a legit game. There was wayyyyyy too much hype surrounding Destiny, but it ended up being a great finished product that will hopefully have positive continued support. Everyone that I know playing the game is liking it as much as I do. It's challenging, it takes some level of skill, finding new gear is cool, leveling up is fun, and the graphics are at times stunning. Destiny should be on everyone's list to try out online with friends. Anyone looking for a graphically stunning game with top notch gameplay and fantastic online multiplayer co-op should be checking out Destiny. Even the online PvP is great. This game is legit so don't pass it up, if they continue to support it I will be playing for a while. Compared to what's out for next gen console right now, Destiny offers a very worthwhile experience.

Coupled with some weather effects which give your eyes more to look at, playing this game makes you feel like you're really going to planets that have interesting to explore to.

Your character is nicely upgradable and customizable to an extent. Finding loot and gaining rewards is always fun whenever you have finished a mission or a match on the competitive multiplayer mode Crucible. It makes you feel that everything you do is worth something and thus should be rewarded for, so that is a definite plus.

The one biggest gripe I had with the game is the story. It's not really too interesting and is really bogged down in some lore that doesn't really make you invested into it, even though the game is set in a mythic science fiction universe. Also, I do get tired of going through random places and then I have to mow down some places while my robot Ghost works with some machinery.

Overall, if you want gameplay and something to reward you with, all the while looking at gorgeous graphics then Destiny is the game for you. Just don't be disappointed when the dry storytelling bogs the experience down.

    -Good Immersion
-Fun to play even the grinding past level 20
    -Music and sound is superb
    -Good Lore

    Cons:
-Little to no story. Nothing is explained really.
-Lots of unbalanced play especially in multiplayer. I love playing as a Hunter but arc blade is extremely deadly. Shotguns are overpowered.
    -Random loot drops are frustrating.

When I finished the game, I had no idea exactly what most of the alien factions had exactly done or who they worked for, had met no memorable characters, and didn't even realize I had beat the game until about a half-hour later after completing the final mission. Missions are fun, engaging and take place in a variety of both tight twitch shooter corridors and fun tactical sweeping arenas.=, mission design however is so similar that I get Deja vu every time my "ghost" started saying the words "analyze" "decode" "open" or "encrypted". All in all, worth my money. The multiplayer was killer btw, but lack of private matches could be annoying to some.

Let me put this in the simplest of terms: IN ABSOLUTELY NO GALAXY should "Wolfenstein: The New Order" have a higher score than Destiny. Let's just start there.

From the extremely tight and responsive controls, to the vast, wonderful and gorgeous environments, to the crisp graphics, the intriguing storyline, the excellent art direction, the seamless multiplayer, the bungie-mastered competitive multiplayer, the expansive single player, the CONSTANTLY rewarding leveling system.....I could go on and on here.

Spending time in Destiny's world and in it's game experience is a treat. I cannot remember the last time I played a game that felt so good, that I genuinely didn't even care if another cutscene came on or not. While other games (such as the Metal Gear Series) still think its 1996 and cutscenes are impressive enough to wow the gamer, Destiny prides itself on its gameplay being more enthralling than watching a story. Which makes sense, because the medium is VIDEO GAMES....not movies. Playing the game feels unlike any shooter, but also like every shooter(?). Its a weird mashup that feels incredibly tight and enjoyable throughout your entire experience. This game will EASILY eat up 20+ hours and more if you want to get into the hidden co-op exclusive missions that ONLY UNLOCK when you reach level 20.

I LITERALLY have no clue as to WHY the hate for this game exists vs. any of the 8 million other shooters where your their TRUE only objective is....go here...shoot things. I think expectations were unrealistic for this game CLEARLY. It's a PHENOMENAL experience one that belongs on a next generation console and is worth every penny of $60 dollars. Nuff said.

THERE IS NO WAY I would not recommend this game if you are at all interested in a refreshing shooter that feels and looks like it belongs on your brand new $400 and up video game box. There is just too much here, too well done, to ignore and give a mediocre ranking to. Do NOT let these reviewers confuse you.............this is a MASTERFUL game that shows what a talented team can do when they work on a passion project.

First, let me say, I did not fall into the “hype” that was Destiny pre-launch. I quit falling for video game hype ages ago when my testicles dropped. I did play the beta; it was fun and left me wanting more. Second, I don’t participate in console wars, or my dick is bigger than your dick **** games…as I like to call them. I will be reviewing this game on Xbox One because that is I have. Third, take this review as it is, my **** opinion and not yours…if you don’t like it then I don’t care, and no amount of crying about this or that will change my mind. Fourth, I really can’t take many reviews for this game seriously up to this point due to the fact that they are still releasing non DLC content as we speak, but I will review it after a week of playing, even though I have yet to play a raid.
Destiny does not have a very detailed story…I am sure it is in there somewhere…maybe hidden on bungie.net with those annoying cards that keep popping up at the bottom of my screen. What Destiny does have in game is Lord Tyrion “the Imp” Lannister giving me a brief backstory on some **** that is so deep I probably wouldn’t understand it if I was sober, and definitely are not understanding it when I am drunk (and I do find that a good state of inebriation make any video game more fun). Destiny gives you enough story, but not enough to really make sense of it all. There will be no jawdrops in this one. I am sure there will be more to follow, but then again, I don’t really play mmo/diablo type “grind for better gear” games for the story…I play them to replay them at increasing difficulty levels to get better gear for my character, so I can dominate in pVe and pVp.
Graphically, Destiny is what you would expect from Bungie on an Xbox One. Fluid animations, breathtaking vistas, nice effects, dynamic lighting, all the above is there and nicely done in 1080p at 30fps. The game looks good. It sounds good too, which helps add to the immersion.
Gameplay is **** rad in this game…yes…**** rad! Character customization is limited. There are three classes, each with two subclasses, 6 ways to play. I chose a Hunter. The first bit of the game is your basic FPS with really nice halo-esque controls and gameplay. As you progress you start to become more integrated in the tower. That is when you can really start customizing your character and meeting with other players. I wish they made it easier to communicate with other players in the tower, but they did not, so **** ‘em. There is lots to do in the tower such as dance, point at people, sit on your ass, bow, pick up bounties, upgrade gear (at higher levels), decrypt engrams, etc. The tower will become more beneficial at Level 20+, until then, bounties are the **** for leveling. So for the main story part of this game it is go here, kill this, deploy your ghost, fend off waves of **** Wash , rinse, repeat. This is exactly what I expect from a game that requires you to level. This is like Diablo in the first person. Every now and then during the first 20 levels you will get some cool loot to drop…nothing Legendary or Exotic, but some uncommons and rares. Think of the first 20 levels as training. By the time you hit level 20, you will have completed the story missions, gotten comfortable with the patrols, strikes, and crucible. You will have a good understanding on how to use your character skills and how to play your character. All of this becomes essential to “end-game” content. The game really doesn’t start until level 20+, and from there it is all about getting into a party with your friends, replaying missions on increasing difficulty levels to unlock awesome gear. It is addictive, and fun. There really is a lot to do in this game, you must have the patience stick with it. Destiny is not an “instant gratification” game, it takes time to mature.
Overall, I think a lot of people have given this game a bad rap because they do not fully understand the concept of mmo type games. All they see is FPS and don’t invest the time and don’t realize that these games are about repetition. So, **** those guys. I think this game is pretty damn good, up there with Diablo III. I have been playing it on the regular for the past week, so kudos to the devs. Post level 20 with friends is badass and a lot of fun. If you don’t have friends, make some…it is easy enough to do. With all that being said, I still feel like this game is not ready to be reviewed until I have finished a raid, but I will give it a number anyway because that is all you braindead, mutant, **** really care about. I give it a 9. Haters gonna hate…bring it on!

In terms of presentation, gameplay, and most importantly, potential, this game deserves an 11 out 10. It's one of the most addictive shooters I've ever played. It manages to combine the loot driven PvE content of Borderlands and the insanely polished and fast paced PvP shooting in Halo.

I'll concede that the story is mediocre at best and some of the minor quests are pretty repetitive (although that's the nature of MMOs), but aside from that, this game is a really fun MMOFPS. It's an absolute blast to play with friends in the Crucible (the PvP arena) as well as in the Strikes and Raids (group PvE content).

Are there things they could have done slightly better? Yes, but overall, it's getting way too much hate from other users and critics. Diablo 3 was a joke when it launched, and it's now been completely revamped into a much more streamlined and enjoyable experience. Destiny has even more potential than Diablo, and there's a pretty huge amount of room for new content and improvement upon existing content.

What it is, is a fun but flawed game. The combat, the presentation, the visuals (the world's), the classes, the looting, the co-op even the pvp are all top-tier. However, there are flaws - 1. The Story is egregious, it is atrocious, it stinks. (The premise is incredible, the execution is NOT) 2. (Personal Opinion) I didn't enjoy the same starting points on levels, it kinda took you out of the immersion where you say to yourself, I was just here, and this new mission I am on is something I could have done last time I was here, rather than travel to a different planet to receive the mission and then come back and go through it all again..so yea there's a sense of repetition. 3. (From #2) Repetition - from starting points where you have to go through same bad guys, or the level structure which is exactly the same every time - go here, shoot bad guys, go there, shoot bad guys, deploy ghost, defend ghost against bad guys, mission over. A little bit of change of pace in the mission structure would be nice (But really...think about it...Halo, which gets terrific reviews every time is all about repetition - go here, shoot bad guys, go here, defend against bad guys, repeat. HOWEVER - aside from these flaws it's the most fun (well...that and Diablo III for me personally) you'll have playing video games today. Brushing aside the expectations, Destiny delivers! Expand

Graphics are very good, not mind blowing, but better than I expect from 30 fps. Audio is great with gun sounds & explosions done very well and the music is very good also although not as good as Halo. I'm not sure if firing the former Halo music director Marty O'Donnell was a wise decision. Matchmaking for strikes and PvP is fast and the combat play is solid. No server crashes whatsoever. Loot drops and loot awards are random and level appropriate which is a fair and equitable system. Destiny's phone app is the one of the best I've seen allowing you to view your buddies loadouts and even equip and adjust your own loadout.

On the negative side there seems to be a love hate relationship going on with this game, a lot of it I'm sure is due to the hype train setting peoples expectations too high. The other aspect of that is people who were expecting a Mass Effect type of story from the get go. I do agree Bungie could have done a better job fleshing out the story line, maybe introducing a few more memorable characters instead of directing you to Bungie.com to learn more about the lore. That is lame this day in age. We will go to Bungie.com if there is a compelling reason to, not to learn more about the Hive or the Fallen that should have been ingame information. Hopefully they patch in an encyclopedia like the one that was in Mass Effect. Also lacking is the social aspect in the tower. The inability to chat with anyone without having to join a fireteam is just strange when they tout the social aspect of the game. Watching your character dance is not a substitute for this. As I mentioned I've played mostly with friends and I think that's what makes this game fun. For the majority of the bad reviews I bet they were playing solo, which I give Bungie credit for making the game even playable that way. I feel like Bungie is trying to draw in a huge community of solo players and slowing introduce them into the multiplayer world at a pace that makes them comfortable. The risk there is they will get turned off before they join in the multiplayer community.

I give the game an 8 and I hope in a year I can come back and give it a 9 because of the support and content that Bungie has promised to bring so the ball is squarely in Bungie's court to not burn those of us who are enjoying the game. My fear is that it will become way too repetitive and grinding and I will lose interest due to lack of content. I hope my fears are false.

The game play really carries the game. The game play is amazing. The story line is largely mediocre at best. Peter Dinklage's performance as Ghost is hilariously bad. It's incredibly unfair to just rate this game after a day like many people did. The game doesn't really start until you reach level 20. I wouldn't trust any review on here that was done the day the game was released or within the first couple of days. Crucible starts to get fun after you have all your stuff unlocked. I'm not sure what people expected day one with the crucible. It was similar to playing COD without any perks except a double jump. Expand

I usually do not write reviews, but after seeing the negativity I thought I would give it my fair assessment. I have no affiliation with Bungie and my only credentials are being a gamer for 28 years. Like others, I am giving this a 10 to balance the trolls that gave this a 0. In reality I think this deserves a high 8 to low 9. The mechanics and game play are not revolutionary but they are addicting. And to deny it's outstanding graphics and beautiful level design is absurd. It is not necessarily open world, missions can be redundant, and the story is as vague as Titanfall's. However, it's unity between multi-player and single player are great. I do wish they allowed proximity voice chat to expand it's social elements. I do agree with it's producers and developers; after you hit the soft level cap of 20; it gets better. The customization creates an addicting element where you just want to keep gathering different forms of currency and reputation. I just wish there was back story to each character class in order to feel more of a connection with your character. Although the game has forms of achievements called Grimoire cards which expand on some of the character classes and story; I don't really think they hit their mark. I wish they would have incorporated this back story and elaboration within the main game. All and all, it may not be perfect but it is addicting and beautiful. And although it may not be what people hoped for in this iteration; I think its overall potential to incorporate it's MMO goals with great FPS game play will make for some awesome sequels and possibly expansions. I personally feel that the greatest game ever would incorporate the customization and game play of this game with the grandiose open world feel of Skyrim. Expand

Best game I ever played. Needs a trading system but its still epic. Literally playing as I write this. Best original game hands down. Better than Mario.

The honest truth is Destiny has about 15 hours of story missions, 10 hours of strike missions, and maybe some side missions that could keep you busy for another 5 hours or so (about 30 hours of content total). Most of these missions are meant to be replayed similar to Diablo 2 for better gear later on, which could theoretically extend the life of the game further.

Admittedly there is some grind to the game. The zones you explore are gigantic, but they reuse some areas for multiple missions.

That being said it is an amazing game for what it is. It doesn't have quite as much content as Borderlands 2, but the content it has is done incredibly well. Graphics are top notch and truly look "next gen" on the xbox one and ps4. The combat is fluid and functions just as you'd expect from a AAA first person shooter. The missions are challenging and often require coordinated team efforts to get through, which I found very rewarding. It's like teaming up for a "raid" in a mmorpg except there's actual interaction besides just having your character auto attack for you while you do something else. And btw, if you don't like a huge challenge or relying on a team to help you it's very easy to pick "normal" missions you can do on your own and not play any of the strike missions (which do require a team).

Some people might consider the shoot head off an alien, rinse, and repeat gameplay "repetitive", but I don't really see what they are expecting considering COD and Halo are equally if not even more repetitive in these respects and have much weaker stories and enemy ai to boot.

To put it in it's simplest form: Destiny is just like the Borderlands series with a more series art style and some competitive multiplayer tacked on (which I really didn't care for, but is not why I played it in the first place). It has incredible graphics, great story and atmosphere, a bit of cheesy dialogue here and there, and a nice little combination of MMO and FPS elements.

It's overall a really fun game. It doesn't have infinite content and the developer isn't going to come over to your house and give you a blowjob just for shelling out 60 dollars to buy it, but it'll keep you busy for at least a couple weeks and it'll be a good experience to enjoy with all your friends while you wait for all the big releases in the fall.

It's a slick, mechanically sound, and lavishly produced shooter that uses beauty to try and mask the potentially great but uninspired gameplay inside. [Issue#117, p.62]

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.

An ambitious if repetitive combination of shooter and loot based ARPG. A boost in loot drop frequency could definitely boost the fun/score. [Issue#254, p.47]
