But the rest of destiny is so good these become minor quibbles. As an fps in pve and pvp Destiny is a rock solid and highly enjoyable. It looks fantastic, beautiful even. the huge playable areas and skyboxes are truly stunning. In summary this game is well worth your time, its excellent fun with friends or solo. I do not understand why would this game deserve all the negative feedback? People give Halo 3 ratings of 98/100, yet this game, which is basically almost like a sequel to Halo with new morpg features and in my opinion better story (Or at least a bit more sense has been put into smashing hordes of monsters), is being so underrated. Now I do not exactly know how the supposedly "sucky" endgame really is yet, but I do know that there are two expansions on the way and one of them is being released in December this year. If you add competitive multiplayer and strikes then the lifespan of this game is greatly extended, multiplayer is the main reason this game has been created.
Just so I am not praising this game, I do have to point out that some of the monster fights might get old after a while, but the story and hunger for loot has always kept me going. Performance-wise I play Destiny on Xbox One, a console a lot of people spit on, and the game plays in 1080p 30FPS constantly. I am not too sure about the exact frame rate but I mean the game has never even tried to freeze, lag or have frame drops. It plays so fluent and it truly feels nextgen This is definitely worth the while, it is an epic game and absolute must have. This game is the game that should make you switch over to next gen.

I think people are just very spoiled these days and in their heads they create image of games that are impossible to do. I have no idea what people have expected and absolutely no idea why would anyone rate the game so badly, perhaps they have played the game on x360/ps3 and expected the same experience I had. The thing is that on the old consoles the game does not have access to some features because the old consoles are not able to handle them. I played beta on 360 and it looked horrible, that's why I have bought a new system just because of this game. This is a next gen game, you should be rating it after playing it on a proper system that has access to its full potential with graphics and online features. This game does NOT deserve such a low rating, definitely hugely underrated game.

Enjoyed the game until I got to lv 20 and finished the story at lv 14 , now it's just a boring repetitive grind to lv up and get good gear , multiplayer is very average and isn't balanced or fair. Needs more content and not just the same missions over and over and over again.

This game is too repetitive and will go into the trunk of my car. On my next trip to the game store, I plan to give it to a parent of a nagging child and save them some money for school supplies. No amount of expensive window dressing can make a boring game worth my time.

Destiny isn't a bad game, it's just not the promised game. The story and the story telling is worse, but the co-op fun in Strikes is at the moment the best you can find on a next-gen console. I played the game for over 30 hours, and still have fun. The PvP was at the beginning terrible for me, but after some time I managed it to get on the top.

This game isn't a 0, but it's definitely not a 10. I can understand the venting frustrations you're seeing from the users do to the amount of hype that was generated for this game. The environments are pretty if you take the time to admire them. They're big, but linear. You'll especially notice this during patrol missions on each map. The story is nearly nonexistent and is told through about 4 or 5 cutscenes in between missions, so don't expect good storytelling. PvE and PvP are both fun, but are much better suited with friends. There's no direct communication with other players in the vicinity unless you're In a party together, which is a huge disappointment. Overall, don't expect anything too new and innovative here, but Destiny is a solid shooter wi subpar rpg elements. Expand

Admittedly I was jealous of everybody I knew that was going to play Destiny. I'm kinda cheap and didn't want to buy a next gen console just for one game so I figured I'd pass on this game for now and maybe get it when it came out for PC. One friend offered to lend me his Xbox One for a week so I could try it out. I was instantly excited to try out this new hyped up IP. One friend offered to lend me his Xbox One for a week so I could try it out. I was instantly excited to try out this new hyped up IP. I'm a fan of Halo and Borderlands and enjoyed the story that went along with each so I figured this would be a win. What I found was mostly disappointment.

Character creation was pretty simple but fun. Nothing particularly special about it other than 3 races and a decent amount of options. Good stuff.

The first time I used a shotgun I was pissed. Your character doesn't correct after recoil. If you fire an assault rifle the recoil slowly pushes your cross hairs upwards as it should. But when you stop firing it returns to it's starting location. This does not happen with shotguns which makes no sense. Basically after ever shot you have to correct where your cross hairs are but not with rifles... Why?

Loading times are unbearable. To be fair I'm mainly a PC gamer so that's never really an issue but there is no way anybody who plays this game on console is happy with the amount of time they wait for things to load. Wasn't there another way? Maybe make smaller maps so we don't have to wait so long?

The large maps are another issue. What can I do with these huge maps... There is nothing particularly special about them and they don't have any use. They seem to be big just to be big. I end up spawning in the same spot during the start of earth missions only to run across the whole map multiple times in the same direction. Why can't they spawn me in a different spot so I don't have to run by the same rocks and sheds over and over again seeing the same enemies in the same spots. I quickly found out that it's better to hop on your bike and just drive across to your destination skipping over enemies. Basically what I'm saying is travel time is boring. Why not give me a reason to stop and fight enemies and to explore. I haven't found a reason yet.

Boring enemies. It's the same guys over and over again. Also, giving an enemy lots of hit points does not make him harder to beat, it just makes him tedious and annoying. Give the enemies neat abilities like flight, teleportation, grappling hooks, burrowing, tossable shields, blinding effects, etc. It just all seems so "shoot, shoot, cover... shoot, shoot, cover"

The loot system... Oh god, the loot system. What a steaming mess. I haven't gotten far with it but dang is it ugly. Why give a purple drop if it turns into a blue or green? WHY? If you're goal is to make purple loot tough to find then lower the drop rate. Don't make some sort of stupid lottery system. It's like playing the lottery to win a chance to play the lottery. It doesn't work and it needs to change.

My overall experience with watching my friends play and my actual time with the game has really upset me. How can a company with so much money, resources, fans, and backing release such a poorly designed game? I'm overall dissapointed and will not be purchasing this for the PC when it's released.

Save your money, do not buy Destiny.

The only negative is some of the detailed stuff is hard to figure out and isn't' super intuitive. There is a lot of mystery and "figuring it out" to get all the value of each feature. If you're impatient, it works against you.

However the elegant blend of co-op, single player, and competitive game play hasn't been accomplished yet. I have a feeling the younger crowd just wants to level up and be uber and kill n00bs.. every other game is for them.

I am about 4-5 hours in and have Earth, The Moon and the Crucible now open to me. These initial missions have been developed so that people can adjust to the gentle nuances between this FPS and others (I keep hitting the RB button for grenade which is a little frustrating), I can understand why some people very early on the release day stated it is a repetitive grind as the initial missions are a little cut and paste, However this has been developed to be an epic saga spanning the galaxy and yet early criticisers have barely escaped the gravitational pull of earth before hurling unwarranted criticism at this game. The game feels well balanced and the shooting mechanics are excellent, time will tell whether the more exotic weapons others have bemoaned as lacking appear. A 0 is a game thats broken and will not play a 5 is a game in the middle of the ground. Now that said lets give this gem a real review. Destiny is a Shooter first and foremost that has some light rpg leveling to it. The gunplay is as tight as anything on the market, then guns have a nice feel to them ans aiming is spot on. The servers which you are tied to are more stable then any launch game Ive seen to date. The worlds are detailed and draw you in the rain in the jungles of venus drip on your screen making you feel like your their. Enemies who once you barely survived soon run in fear as you come back leveled up. The guns have all your bases covered, sniper, assault, hand guns, rocket launchers, shotguns and a few extras for fun. As good as the gunplay is the real treat here is using the light of the traveler to destory your foes. This is were the rpg elements come into play and have a somewhat mass effect feel to them which is great imo, using you massive powers to wipe out waves of enemies is a thrill like no other game can offer. The multiplayer which is built in at the core is top notch you may find yourself at the edge of defeat when someone else will come along in the nick of time, the singleplayer elements are also top notch. The story is great and has that Halo, Stars Wars, Mass effect feel to it. The strike team missions are among the best co-op out there and should not be missed killing massive enemies with a squad is the best part of this game. PvP is there in all its glory it has vehicles, powers, and a few new twist and a great feel to the progression of it and great rewards. There really is not enough great things to say about this game it is the best shooter on the market the blend of singleplayer, multiplayer, and MMO forms a hybrid that is hard to put down. If your a fan of Sci-Fi this is a must have, if your a fan of great shooters this is a must have, if your a fan of building a character into the savior of the World this is a must have. Or if you just love great games and shooting people in the face with a rocket launcher this is a must have. Firstly i will discuss the negative. Multiplayer pvp. 6 vs 6 is not acceptable by today's standards for an online shooter. I also find the pvp experience not to be balanced and is frustrating. Maps never feel right. They feel too big or too small at times. I would not recommend this game a buy if you were looking for a core multiplayer experience. The Patrol mode is repetitive as said in other reviews. This is basically your explore mode as well. There are only a few patrol missions it seems and does get boring quickly for most I would think. I personally only do them when there is a bounty for it as I do enjoy the bounty missions. This also will yield you bonus vanguard experience. Exploring just feels bland as well. I find very little in the way of chests, dead ghosts, or enemies which is really the entire reason to go exploring in the first place. Those are really the only things that I feel Bungie just fell short on.

That being said, they got a lot right. The enemy variety is as good or better than any other shooter I can think of despite the other reviews. COD has more variety? Titianfall? Even Halo? I don't think so. There is plenty of variety as well as a variety of ways you can take them down. The world is large and gorgeous. I have spent more time looking around to take in the environment than any other game bar none. It is beautiful. Missions are solid despite the haters reviews. The biggest complaint is "go here and shoot this guy repeat" or "go here and push this button repeat". Is my memory failing me or is pretty much every shooter ever made a similar formula? The excitement is not the goal but the journey to the goal. To share the world with others even when traveling alone is great. It is fun to storm a base with fellow travelers. Public events is a great time and a wonderful way to meet new friends even if you were planning to go solo. Just something bonding about the experience. Can't put my finger on it. I typically am not a big social gamer but I have found myself grouping with more folks in this game than any other and loving it. Bounty boards are a fun. Some of the bounties take you deeper into the world than the patrols it seems and they vary much more. Lots of gear to level. I am only a lvl 18 warlock atm but have heard the leveling does NOT stop at 20 which is great.

In a nutshell this game is a 5/10 for multi and a 9/10 for single player / coop. This is why I gave it a 7 overall. I personally bought it for the SP so I am loving the hell out of it. It is a dangerous game to promote a game as hard as Bungie has with this title and not expect volatile reactions from the public but this is far from a bad game. Unless as I said before, you were only buying for the multiplayer. I hope this review helps a bit with you gamers on the fence one way or the other.

Grinding through a game just to get to the top isn't playing a game. It isn't exploring and learning and experiencing. I would love to see the halfway decent, competent review that has come out since the game released that hits everything. Yes everything. Because until you can do that you are not qualified to give a proper score.
This game is something different and it seems that people hate change. It is fun and I haven't found questing or general exploration to be anything but a hoot. The only problem is that the multiplayer matching system can seem a bit unbalanced even though it is supposed to even everyone out. But then again COD does the same thing and that's all people play in that game.
This is a long term endeavor. Something that won't take the weekend for you to complete. Don't expect to find everything out of the gate. Don't expect to get overpowered. For those who like to play like that then nothing will every satisfy you because you are more interested in blowing other people away rather than enjoying the game. Maybe it isn't always about being the best and winning all the time. Maybe sometimes it is just about enjoying the game. Pffffft. Like you all aren't going to rip that line apart.
Give the game a try. You might like it.

To be fair I started judging this game shortly after Bungie handed off the reins to 343 after reach was launched. The initial rumblings were a kin to a mmo but with shooter aspects. This intrigued me. long have I thought that Bungie could have done something like this with the halo franchise but I digress. The game play feels solid. Shooting mechanics are as to be expected in a vary Bungie style. The super ability are thought out and as for cool down time I am not sure why people complain about it. If you are frugle and work on your building your character you can unlock armor that drastically reduces the time need to build that up. Also if you pay attention to your level upgrades you can decrease it even further. The levels are huge in patrol mode and in story missions they still feel large but they do not let you stray to far from your goal. Once you hit a firefight you are in for a treat. They are tight and full of action. You will be looking for cover a lot if you have a low level character but that is a good thing if you were a tank right off the bat it would not be as enjoyable when you unlock really good gear. I would like to address a few comments at this point about communication. Yes you have to invite people to chat with you in order to organize you fire team. with that said most of the time I will never talk to you but I will help you, kill things, and revive you if you need that. Most players use to proximity mics and open headset screaming will not like this game because it is not for you. We have COD and Halo for that. Go play those games. This is a MMO lite. As for grinding for gear and weapons. That is inherent apart of rpgs. I knew that going in. if you know that going in you will do just fine and enjoy the game. The one thing holding this game back is the less than informative story. If you want to know what is going on you have to go to Bungie.net and look at the cards you unlock. (by the way if you upgrade cards on their you will get extra bonuses in game.) That is a little annoying. That is my only issue. The worlds are huge fun to play in the game play is frantic at times and slow when needed. I also fee that at the "end of the game" the real game starts. With raids and high level replays the game gets new legs.

At the end of the day I love the game. The little things that annoy me are just that little and I think the story missions with the expansion pass will greatly increase the playability of the game for years to come. My final notes. Please disregard the day one reviews. Anyone bold enough to shout out "Terrible not worth your money." has not had time to truly play the game and ultimately has not the experience nor the knowledge to truly rate the game and is just click bate. also I will add one * to my review. I enjoy Bungie game. I have owned many. I also have not enjoyed playing cod or battlefield. So also please take my review with a grain of salt. I like Bungie. I have fallowed them for a long time and at the end of the day if you see me come say hi or join in a dance party. If you need help reach out to the Bungie community and someone will answer your call. This game is not for the what I like to call "Bro game" but is truly for the rpg mmo crowd that enjoys a good shooter.

For the people who are complaining about the game is being too short need to relies that Bungie has given this game a ten(10) year plan. What other game has a ten(10) year plan? It is a fun game, This is a MMO..Most mmo's you grind..I think the call of duty lovers are looking for that type of game...This is a fun Sci Fi MMO..Get mission, Kill Bad Guy, Get XP and Gear...Get Mission ECT. I am only level 10 but am having fun..Do I play 12 hours a day..NO.. But if you are looking for a FPS MMO this is a good choice.

The damage your weapons cause on the enemies is sub-par and you have to go thru 75% of your small magazine just to take one guy down, while 5 more are attacking you.. I learned to just not shoot and Melee everyone to death... more effective
-Loot itself is rare. A game based on the premise of Loot, exp, and dungeons you'd figure you would get better loot? NAH!

    Lets head off to storyline:
-Go here, Ghost scan that object, defend ghost against waves of aliens. Rinse and repeat the ENTIRE game... yeah.. really
-Multiplayer Dungeons (i'd rather watch 24 hours straight of "Paddy the Pelican" than ever do a dungeon again): Same premise, scan ghost, defend waves, fight impossible boss that ONE player needs to stand and hide far away while the other two keep dying slowly and surely nicking off tiny bits and slivers of health from the boss! If hidden guy dies.. you reset from checkpoint.. HAH!
-once the said boss was killed.. NO REWARD or LOOT.. just about a half hour of headache

    Multiplayer Deathmatch:
boring and bland.. rinsed and repeated "Domination" and "Team Deathmatch" modes that offer no ingenuity and barely any reward. Exp is nice if you want to GTFO of the story (i dont blame you one bit)

The positives: Graphics, World, Scenery... that's about it

1/10 because of the beautiful graphics

It's kind of its own thing that borrows a lot of concepts from other games, merges them all nicely--some more than others--and polishes everything so well that if the sun were out it would blind you. It's doing what it wants to do very, very well.

However, a lot of people get the wrong picture, or expect the wrong thing, or just "don't get it" so I'm going to clear a lot of the misconceptions up right now, as neutrally as possible, so as to guide people who are on the fence or help people who don't seem to like it learn to like it more for what it is and not what they were expecting it to be.

Destiny is first and foremost a co-op game, and is greatly enhanced by playing with a tight-knit group of friends. It is also about "grinding." The thing about grinding though, is that it isn't really a grind when you're doing it with your friends. Destiny creates this great play space for your friends to hook up for a few hours and just blow **** up together, whilst slowly gaining power for bigger, crazier things (Storms, Raids, etc).
Destiny's core play model seems to be to lay the groundwork for continual "grind" style advancement, but then serve that up on a silver platter with fun, polished gameplay, frenetic action, and doing it all with your friends, all at easily choosable and switchable levels of difficulty and depth while being able to flip to PvP at the drop of a hat.

It is not without its flaws. The first few hours of pacing are really awful compared to everything mid-Moon and on. Similarly, the game doesn't really hit full stride until you, and your friends, hit max level and you all start gunning for super difficult stuff as a team. Thankfully this only takes about 12-14 hours to get to, and it's not like the game isn't smooth and fun up till then anyway.
The storytelling excels in some places (Venus-endgame/Awoken arc) and falls super flat in others (Ghost's VAing, Dinklage I am disappoint). Many things are not explained well, if at all (bounties, transferring gear between characters, how vendor rep/levels and faction rep works).

All in all, for what it sets out to do, it hits home well enough to have a truck load of staying power, especially if they really ratchet out the expansions and DLC quickly.

In terms of just wanting to hang out with friends and blow **** up while feeling a sense of advancement and at the same time opting in or out of competition at my discretion, this is totally going to be my number one go to now. It hits all those marks with flying colors, at least for me. I just hope enough of my bros stick with it when the dust settles.

    TL;DR
Destiny is co-op loot grind game at its core and if you don't like that then it won't appeal to you at all, but it's the first FPS style one that really gets it right. The gunplay is great, the graphics are fantastic, the underlying design is solid, and the UI/menus/feedback/HUD should be an industry standard.
Bungie cast a mortar and pestle out of gold, polished the crap out of it, made it **** out candy and explosions while you did it, and put in up to five extra handles for your friends.

I can only assume the reason this game has a 5.0 average user rating as of this review due to the fact that half of the players were expecting something else, and the other half realize what it is and like it.

The gameplay itself is fantastic, the controls are very smooth and fluid which makes for fun general gameplay. The PvP and Strike missions at level 20 really help to spice the game up, especially if you're playing with friends, it gives a challenge aspect and I do mean CHALLENGE. The game just needs more content (which is coming up in the near future DLC) and it'll be golden.

Destiny is its own unique game and I enjoy every bit of it. I REALLY like how they did the endgame piece that there is another stat on armor, called Light, that is what brings you past lvl 20. So it means that if you are with all lvl 22 players then you have around the same level of equipment. This makes endgame strikes(dungeons) and raids a lot easier to play, as you can clearly see that a lvl 20 player doesn't have good enough gear for a lvl 24 or 26 strike.

If you love FPS you will undoubtedly enjoy yourself in this fantastic game.
The shooting mechanics are perfect, weapons handle really well, and there are so many skills and abilities that it will take months to really understand each classes full potential.

The story is purposefully vague, you are piecing together what happened to mankind, and although some cut scenes can feel cliché, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am a huge science fiction fan, and I think the trickle of information you receive is perfect to have you pondering what is really going on behind everything. I do admit I was expecting more character development of some key roles, but I accept this story as a sort of introduction to the world that is Destiny.

If you ever played through an FPS such as Halo a second time, just for the joy of shooting things, this is the game for you. Once you finish the 20-ish story missions, you can play any of them again (set to your level or higher to make it actually challenging) and continue earning loot/xp etc to strengthen your character. Patrol lets you loose in the semi-open maps of each planet, and while this is where you will notice the limitations of the games 'encouragement' to explore, I cant really see "I want more areas to explore" as a negative point. Strikes are a bit more challenging, but have matchmaking so you never face them alone.

Not being alone is a gigantic advantage in Destiny, not only to help out during a mission/strike/PvP match, but also just to have a great time with friends, showing off the new piece of loot you just received, or ability unlocked. There is something magical about joining a friend to find that they are pinned down, and you can make the difference between they're life and death by charging in and destroying the enemies.

At any time you can head to the Crucible for PvP Competitive game mode, and take all the abilities you have learned, along with the perks you have unlocked on your hard earned guns/armor, and face off against other guardians in typical FPS PvP game modes. Level advantages don't apply in the Crucible (except in separate special events) so everyone has a fair chance, your level 8 weapons will hit as hard as the same weapons from level 20, but if you have spent the time levelling your gun to get the fast reload perk, that will be available in PvP.

The thing that makes this game so special is that everything you do, from levelling up in PvP, Patrolling Mars to get that Relic Iron you need to level your armor, or completing the Daily Heroic Story Mission for some extra vanguard reputation, it is all beneficial to your hero, and your friends can join you anytime to help out.

This game is not perfect, but no game is, and every game I have loved in the past has had features that I feel could of made it better. I even have some ideas for Destiny, I would of loved friendly aliens, multi-form bosses, or just more content, but they are just dreams, and I can't justify criticising a game for not meeting my ridiculous expectations. Destiny is already blending together everything I love about fiction fantasy and video games; and all I really want is more of it.

Destiny is the closest thing to the perfect game that I have ever played. I recommend it for anyone who enjoys video games.

And for the 0 score reviews I say - if you can't find some happiness in this game, than maybe gaming is not for you.

Great game, but the main storyline is disappointingly short. I've completed this after just 4 days - I was expecting a huge amount more. When compared to other games that give 60-100 hrs of gameplay, this just isn't good enough these days. There have been moments for me so far that say, yes, this game has potential. Getting caught up in a spontaneous system wide event (while on a mission) was a nice touch. Having to take down a Nomad with the help of others in the same area was a distraction in the good sense of the word. At another point in the game, I was in a tough fight and someone came along just at the right time and spent all of a minute helping me knock down the rest of the badies. Once over we both went on our merry way and not once did we have to communicate. So I get what Bungie wants to do with this game. I even get the "shared-world" shooter. A balance between co-op and competitive multiplayer that is always on.

It's a good game. It's well designed mechanically. However, it is way over hyped at this point. While there is plenty new, it's new in the sense that you mix elements of what has come before to get a new sum. It's not revolutionary. The back story takes a backseat to the action. I have a hard time understanding why I am doing things. The dialogue is ... weak, both in tone and content. I didn't expect an RPG style story that is 50% of the game. But even Halo had a sense of urgency to the story. Everything seems forced in Destiny.

As I mentioned, this game has many elements. It can be compared to a lot of games, SWTOR, Borderlands, Halo, and even Eve:Online come to mind. The last one because of what I think can make or break this game: community driven content. Without Bungie doing a complete overhaul over the next year - the only thing that I can see taking this game to the next level and keeping it afloat is how the community comes together. Unlike EVE: Online though, there are walls in this world. Matchmaking, whether co-op or multiplayer is done on the fly and automated. It will be interesting to see how much the community can drive this game in its current state.

For now I will keep playing. I've really been on the edge of my seat more than once. That alone is worth the price of admission. It's not a game that I feel personally vested in yet though. Time will tell.

Coupled with some weather effects which give your eyes more to look at, playing this game makes you feel like you're really going to planets that have interesting to explore to.

Your character is nicely upgradable and customizable to an extent. Finding loot and gaining rewards is always fun whenever you have finished a mission or a match on the competitive multiplayer mode Crucible. It makes you feel that everything you do is worth something and thus should be rewarded for, so that is a definite plus.

The one biggest gripe I had with the game is the story. It's not really too interesting and is really bogged down in some lore that doesn't really make you invested into it, even though the game is set in a mythic science fiction universe. Also, I do get tired of going through random places and then I have to mow down some places while my robot Ghost works with some machinery.

Overall, if you want gameplay and something to reward you with, all the while looking at gorgeous graphics then Destiny is the game for you. Just don't be disappointed when the dry storytelling bogs the experience down.

Also, story. Where is it? I don't even know what orders to play the story in.

Destiny has SO much potential, if I could just talk to people and make fireteams easier I'd give it an 8. If there was any kind of story.... it would be so good. I would be happy if they shut the server down for a couple months and fixed their game.

    Pros:
    -Beautiful
    -Good Immersion
-Fun to play even the grinding past level 20
    -Music and sound is superb
    -Good Lore

    Cons:
-Little to no story. Nothing is explained really.
-Lots of unbalanced play especially in multiplayer. I love playing as a Hunter but arc blade is extremely deadly. Shotguns are overpowered.
    -Random loot drops are frustrating.

When I finished the game, I had no idea exactly what most of the alien factions had exactly done or who they worked for, had met no memorable characters, and didn't even realize I had beat the game until about a half-hour later after completing the final mission. Missions are fun, engaging and take place in a variety of both tight twitch shooter corridors and fun tactical sweeping arenas.=, mission design however is so similar that I get Deja vu every time my "ghost" started saying the words "analyze" "decode" "open" or "encrypted". All in all, worth my money. The multiplayer was killer btw, but lack of private matches could be annoying to some.

    Best played with friends.

Terrible. Go to X, kill Y, repeat; all the missions are identical. This is the most repetitive game I have ever played. All the guns feel the same, the maps are bland and you can't talk to anyone else. That is right, no communication whatsoever unless you are in a private chat with your friends.

The game does seem repetitive but there is just so much you can discover and do its not supposed to be like any other story/rpg before. So comparing it another game is stupid, you should play this game to explore and do the missions slowly instead of plowing straight through them.

Very good game even ignoring all the hype. It's one that's going to evolve and grow over time much like a MMO so its hard to give it a final score. The game wont appeal to everyone, but its far from being as bad as all these low scores suggest. Expect this to be a larger and richer game in the future as the universe expands.

From the extremely tight and responsive controls, to the vast, wonderful and gorgeous environments, to the crisp graphics, the intriguing storyline, the excellent art direction, the seamless multiplayer, the bungie-mastered competitive multiplayer, the expansive single player, the CONSTANTLY rewarding leveling system.....I could go on and on here.

Spending time in Destiny's world and in it's game experience is a treat. I cannot remember the last time I played a game that felt so good, that I genuinely didn't even care if another cutscene came on or not. While other games (such as the Metal Gear Series) still think its 1996 and cutscenes are impressive enough to wow the gamer, Destiny prides itself on its gameplay being more enthralling than watching a story. Which makes sense, because the medium is VIDEO GAMES....not movies. Playing the game feels unlike any shooter, but also like every shooter(?). Its a weird mashup that feels incredibly tight and enjoyable throughout your entire experience. This game will EASILY eat up 20+ hours and more if you want to get into the hidden co-op exclusive missions that ONLY UNLOCK when you reach level 20.

I LITERALLY have no clue as to WHY the hate for this game exists vs. any of the 8 million other shooters where your their TRUE only objective is....go here...shoot things. I think expectations were unrealistic for this game CLEARLY. It's a PHENOMENAL experience one that belongs on a next generation console and is worth every penny of $60 dollars. Nuff said.

THERE IS NO WAY I would not recommend this game if you are at all interested in a refreshing shooter that feels and looks like it belongs on your brand new $400 and up video game box. There is just too much here, too well done, to ignore and give a mediocre ranking to. Do NOT let these reviewers confuse you.............this is a MASTERFUL game that shows what a talented team can do when they work on a passion project.

You can't review a game based on future potential, that's not fair and its crooked as hell to put in your review but even the biggest names in reviews are doing that.

Oh wait, there is an article about how this game sold a bunch because they are measuring product shipped rather than products sold. The point of that story is look lots of people like it so you should do or people buying games for people as gifts will think with that many sales it must be a good game...

Here is some advice, with those kind of numbers being shipped plus the fact that its a mediocre game means that there will be a whole lot of copies available second hand at reseller stores so go buy it there and save yourself a few bucks. Maybe you won't get some crappy epenis DLC for a gun skin or something like that really doesn't matter.

First, let me say, I did not fall into the “hype” that was Destiny pre-launch. I quit falling for video game hype ages ago when my testicles dropped. I did play the beta; it was fun and left me wanting more. Second, I don’t participate in console wars, or my dick is bigger than your dick **** games…as I like to call them. I will be reviewing this game on Xbox One because that is I have. Third, take this review as it is, my **** opinion and not yours…if you don’t like it then I don’t care, and no amount of crying about this or that will change my mind. Fourth, I really can’t take many reviews for this game seriously up to this point due to the fact that they are still releasing non DLC content as we speak, but I will review it after a week of playing, even though I have yet to play a raid.
Destiny does not have a very detailed story…I am sure it is in there somewhere…maybe hidden on bungie.net with those annoying cards that keep popping up at the bottom of my screen. What Destiny does have in game is Lord Tyrion “the Imp” Lannister giving me a brief backstory on some **** that is so deep I probably wouldn’t understand it if I was sober, and definitely are not understanding it when I am drunk (and I do find that a good state of inebriation make any video game more fun). Destiny gives you enough story, but not enough to really make sense of it all. There will be no jawdrops in this one. I am sure there will be more to follow, but then again, I don’t really play mmo/diablo type “grind for better gear” games for the story…I play them to replay them at increasing difficulty levels to get better gear for my character, so I can dominate in pVe and pVp.
Graphically, Destiny is what you would expect from Bungie on an Xbox One. Fluid animations, breathtaking vistas, nice effects, dynamic lighting, all the above is there and nicely done in 1080p at 30fps. The game looks good. It sounds good too, which helps add to the immersion.
Gameplay is **** rad in this game…yes…**** rad! Character customization is limited. There are three classes, each with two subclasses, 6 ways to play. I chose a Hunter. The first bit of the game is your basic FPS with really nice halo-esque controls and gameplay. As you progress you start to become more integrated in the tower. That is when you can really start customizing your character and meeting with other players. I wish they made it easier to communicate with other players in the tower, but they did not, so **** ‘em. There is lots to do in the tower such as dance, point at people, sit on your ass, bow, pick up bounties, upgrade gear (at higher levels), decrypt engrams, etc. The tower will become more beneficial at Level 20+, until then, bounties are the **** for leveling. So for the main story part of this game it is go here, kill this, deploy your ghost, fend off waves of **** Wash , rinse, repeat. This is exactly what I expect from a game that requires you to level. This is like Diablo in the first person. Every now and then during the first 20 levels you will get some cool loot to drop…nothing Legendary or Exotic, but some uncommons and rares. Think of the first 20 levels as training. By the time you hit level 20, you will have completed the story missions, gotten comfortable with the patrols, strikes, and crucible. You will have a good understanding on how to use your character skills and how to play your character. All of this becomes essential to “end-game” content. The game really doesn’t start until level 20+, and from there it is all about getting into a party with your friends, replaying missions on increasing difficulty levels to unlock awesome gear. It is addictive, and fun. There really is a lot to do in this game, you must have the patience stick with it. Destiny is not an “instant gratification” game, it takes time to mature.
Overall, I think a lot of people have given this game a bad rap because they do not fully understand the concept of mmo type games. All they see is FPS and don’t invest the time and don’t realize that these games are about repetition. So, **** those guys. I think this game is pretty damn good, up there with Diablo III. I have been playing it on the regular for the past week, so kudos to the devs. Post level 20 with friends is badass and a lot of fun. If you don’t have friends, make some…it is easy enough to do. With all that being said, I still feel like this game is not ready to be reviewed until I have finished a raid, but I will give it a number anyway because that is all you braindead, mutant, **** really care about. I give it a 9. Haters gonna hate…bring it on!

All the story/leveling quests are repetitive kill and fetch quests, and the game truly begins at the soft level cap of 20 - where you then grind up to 30 by getting gear that has light by repeating dungeons and eventually raiding. In terms of presentation, gameplay, and most importantly, potential, this game deserves an 11 out 10. It's one of the most addictive shooters I've ever played. It manages to combine the loot driven PvE content of Borderlands and the insanely polished and fast paced PvP shooting in Halo.

I'll concede that the story is mediocre at best and some of the minor quests are pretty repetitive (although that's the nature of MMOs), but aside from that, this game is a really fun MMOFPS. It's an absolute blast to play with friends in the Crucible (the PvP arena) as well as in the Strikes and Raids (group PvE content).

Are there things they could have done slightly better? Yes, but overall, it's getting way too much hate from other users and critics. Diablo 3 was a joke when it launched, and it's now been completely revamped into a much more streamlined and enjoyable experience. Destiny has even more potential than Diablo, and there's a pretty huge amount of room for new content and improvement upon existing content.

The Story is egregious, it is atrocious, it stinks. (The premise is incredible, the execution is NOT) 2. (Personal Opinion) I didn't enjoy the same starting points on levels, it kinda took you out of the immersion where you say to yourself, I was just here, and this new mission I am on is something I could have done last time I was here, rather than travel to a different planet to receive the mission and then come back and go through it all again..so yea there's a sense of repetition. 3. (From #2) Repetition - from starting points where you have to go through same bad guys, or the level structure which is exactly the same every time - go here, shoot bad guys, go there, shoot bad guys, deploy ghost, defend ghost against bad guys, mission over. A little bit of change of pace in the mission structure would be nice (But really...think about it...Halo, which gets terrific reviews every time is all about repetition - go here, shoot bad guys, go here, defend against bad guys, repeat. So far I've had a ton of fun playing with friends in story mode and strikes and also playing solo in the crucible. I've played roughly 20 hours and finished the story missions.

Graphics are very good, not mind blowing, but better than I expect from 30 fps. Audio is great with gun sounds & explosions done very well and the music is very good also although not as good as Halo. I'm not sure if firing the former Halo music director Marty O'Donnell was a wise decision. Matchmaking for strikes and PvP is fast and the combat play is solid. No server crashes whatsoever. Loot drops and loot awards are random and level appropriate which is a fair and equitable system. Destiny's phone app is the one of the best I've seen allowing you to view your buddies loadouts and even equip and adjust your own loadout.

On the negative side there seems to be a love hate relationship going on with this game, a lot of it I'm sure is due to the hype train setting peoples expectations too high. The other aspect of that is people who were expecting a Mass Effect type of story from the get go. I do agree Bungie could have done a better job fleshing out the story line, maybe introducing a few more memorable characters instead of directing you to Bungie.com to learn more about the lore. That is lame this day in age. We will go to Bungie.com if there is a compelling reason to, not to learn more about the Hive or the Fallen that should have been ingame information. Hopefully they patch in an encyclopedia like the one that was in Mass Effect. Also lacking is the social aspect in the tower. The inability to chat with anyone without having to join a fireteam is just strange when they tout the social aspect of the game. Watching your character dance is not a substitute for this. As I mentioned I've played mostly with friends and I think that's what makes this game fun. For the majority of the bad reviews I bet they were playing solo, which I give Bungie credit for making the game even playable that way. I feel like Bungie is trying to draw in a huge community of solo players and slowing introduce them into the multiplayer world at a pace that makes them comfortable. The risk there is they will get turned off before they join in the multiplayer community.

I give the game an 8 and I hope in a year I can come back and give it a 9 because of the support and content that Bungie has promised to bring so the ball is squarely in Bungie's court to not burn those of us who are enjoying the game. My fear is that it will become way too repetitive and grinding and I will lose interest due to lack of content. I hope my fears are false.

And to deny it's outstanding graphics and beautiful level design is absurd. It is not necessarily open world, missions can be redundant, and the story is as vague as Titanfall's. However, it's unity between multi-player and single player are great. I do wish they allowed proximity voice chat to expand it's social elements. I do agree with it's producers and developers; after you hit the soft level cap of 20; it gets better. The customization creates an addicting element where you just want to keep gathering different forms of currency and reputation. I just wish there was back story to each character class in order to feel more of a connection with your character. Although the game has forms of achievements called Grimoire cards which expand on some of the character classes and story; I don't really think they hit their mark. I wish they would have incorporated this back story and elaboration within the main game. All and all, it may not be perfect but it is addicting and beautiful. Graphics are cool.
if your looking for something like mass effect they are not there yet.
I would disrergard some of the critics here that score bellow 5.

The honest truth is Destiny has about 15 hours of story missions, 10 hours of strike missions, and maybe some side missions that could keep you busy for another 5 hours or so (about 30 hours of content total). Most of these missions are meant to be replayed similar to Diablo 2 for better gear later on, which could theoretically extend the life of the game further.

Most of these missions are meant to be replayed similar to Diablo 2 for better gear later on, which could theoretically extend the life of the game further.

Admittedly there is some grind to the game. The zones you explore are gigantic, but they reuse some areas for multiple missions.

That being said it is an amazing game for what it is. It doesn't have quite as much content as Borderlands 2, but the content it has is done incredibly well. Graphics are top notch and truly look "next gen" on the xbox one and ps4. The combat is fluid and functions just as you'd expect from a AAA first person shooter. The missions are challenging and often require coordinated team efforts to get through, which I found very rewarding. It's like teaming up for a "raid" in a mmorpg except there's actual interaction besides just having your character auto attack for you while you do something else. And btw, if you don't like a huge challenge or relying on a team to help you it's very easy to pick "normal" missions you can do on your own and not play any of the strike missions (which do require a team).

Some people might consider the shoot head off an alien, rinse, and repeat gameplay "repetitive", but I don't really see what they are expecting considering COD and Halo are equally if not even more repetitive in these respects and have much weaker stories and enemy ai to boot.

To put it in it's simplest form: Destiny is just like the Borderlands series with a more series art style and some competitive multiplayer tacked on (which I really didn't care for, but is not why I played it in the first place). It has incredible graphics, great story and atmosphere, a bit of cheesy dialogue here and there, and a nice little combination of MMO and FPS elements.

It's overall a really fun game. It doesn't have infinite content and the developer isn't going to come over to your house and give you a blowjob just for shelling out 60 dollars to buy it, but it'll keep you busy for at least a couple weeks and it'll be a good experience to enjoy with all your friends while you wait for all the big releases in the fall.

While some have criticized a perceived lack of compelling story, I disagree here. True, Destiny is light on exposition, it's also very minimal on menu interface, and transitions through games modes, seamless. This spoke to me as an Bungie's intention to create a world that is instantly available, rich but unimposing, allowing those who crave the lore of something like Halo to explore more through collectible 'Grimoire' entries and the supplementary companion app. I'm nearly level 20(the soft cap) and feel like there's so much more to see and do in this joy of a genre-bending title. The range of enemies variety can somewhat be overshadowed by repetitive missions, but injuring this game with a friend, will make it much, much more enjoyable. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny looks amazing, from it's many vistas to it's stunning level design. But there's only 4 planets to explore, with around 5 campaign missions, 2 strike missions, and a patrol. (repeatable quests) Its levels are extremely linear however, and are truly bare, with nothing to do but shoot and sort of loot, sort of being that there really isnt many good weapons and gear to find. I'm not a fanboy i'm just open and honest, but literally every mission consists of traversing to an area, holding x so your ghost can scan/hack something then fight off a enemy horde, every time. the levels do have the odd gold chest in them, but ever lacking in promise. The story is extremely bland, no prominent lore, characters etc. The game has no multiple endings, optional dialogue, good/evil system, there are only preset colours for armor, little customization. The actual ending is less than 3 minutes long, you get a new shiny weapon (no choice) The game has a really annoying auto assist feature to boot, with no option to turn off, which is a game breaker for me, i'm quite insulted to know that the developers think we as gamers need it. You can at level 20 unlock legendary gear, but you need to acquire hundreds of vanguard marks (through patrols/strikes) and crucible marks (through competitive multiplayer) but by the time you are at level 20, you most likely would of completed the game, and therefore the gear is virtually pointless, because you are left with only the strikes and the crucible, which for me are not worthy enough of spending dozens of hours in acquiring the marks for, and farming the materials/glimmer in order to acquire them. Say i want to go back to earth and do a spot of patrolling (repeatable quests) but it's again pointless, being that i'm level 21 and the patrol missions are all set to a certain difficulty, earth being only level 4, all i'll be rewarded with is low level gear (naturally) the game is ironically restrictive being that you have to sort of do a mission when it matches your level, and oh no you can't jump over this cliff etc because all you'll be rewarded with is a halo-esque fall to you death. However the graphics are stunning, gunplay is smooth and tight, varied enemies, etc, but it just doesn't make a good game, great. plus there are dlc/updates on the way which might remedy some of my concerns, great casual game just mostly flash, little substance. True, content after getting through the story arc is limited to repeating a bunch of very simple-natured missions and bullet-sponge boss raids (strikes), the core gameplay is something that ages like wine. The controls are impeccably tuned. The graphics and vistas, amazing. The weapons (at least the more rare weapons) have special upgrade features that actually change the way you not only play, but the way you *want* to play. I was a rifle user through and through. I obtained a lucky rare hand-cannon drop. It's upgrade paths included ones for aiming, damage, and range. In Destiny, the hand cannon is like a short-range insta-gib. After levelling up the gun and getting it's upgrades, it became much more. The weapon became me and I became the weapon.

If you enjoy Halo, Mass Effect, Borderlands or the like, you should really give the game a try. Stick it out, though and the rewards become more substantial. Additionally, Bungie's post release support plans for new content regularly patched in have me wondering what exotic locales in the Solar System we may yet see. Fantastic game, easily worth a buy to most.

Even with most of my game time was playing by myself, I really enjoyed the game play. With the open events to the Strike Missions that provided plenty of loot and xp, and now the 6 player raids that just came out, I am excited to see what is to come to the great journey of Destiny
I do have some cons for this game. I play most of my games on pc, but I went out and bought an Xbox one for this game. I do wish there was some type of chat to make it easier to group up. I do know there are websites out there to help with the community and grouping that you can join, and I will certainly be looking into that. But over all I really enjoyed this game and still do.

People complain that there is nothing innovative, but haters are going to be haters. While most the features have been done before, they've never been done before in a single game and been with this amount of polish. People also complain that the questing system is a lot of "fedex, got to X, kill Y, etc etc." What game isn't? What defines a game is how they implement it and whether or not the combat is fun enough to entertain you as you do it. This game does both perfectly. Whether I'm repeating the campaign (which is more like a prologue than a full story) or in explore mode, the tasks are fun wreck everything in-between.

The class system is also unique and entertaining. Each class has a distinct feel about them as you unlock their unique abilities.

Best of all, no bugs. No glitches. No server lag or queues. This is by far the best launch I've ever been apart of. No issues at all and 20+ hours of playtime so far.

The uniqueness to this game is that you are part of one large mega-server and can play with anyone worldwide. I do this often as part of a global clan. The experience in fireteams is alot better than solo as well. Bungie has been kind enough to make joining an leaving other your friends' fireteams seamless. Go to friend list, select to join a friend in game, and you're in their fireteam and teleported to right next to them. They don't even have to confirm it.

All those pre-orders aren't wrong. People pre-ordered after enjoying the beta. This game if anything is "under" hyped for such a huge game. Yet, here I am just getting started. Bungie is just getting started too with a 10 year contract and a $500 million dollar budget to support the game in that 10 years. I am excited to be part of this game from day 1 as it grows into a global phenomenon. And all these haters? I bet the majority of them will be playing with me. Some people just want to be the critics for which - nothing - is ever good enough.

    See you in-game.

Some say it does a lot but nothing exceptionally well. Guess what people. This is the FIRST of it's kind. It's about stacking stats, specing into situations, organizing group dynamics, and preparing tactics for boss fights.

This game is more mmo than anything else but core mechanics make it FPS. I played Wow and thought i would "beat the game" when i hit level cap. I found out after 6 months of leveling that i completed the "tutorial" and the real game was about to begin. Bungie has borrowed that exact architecture. Sadly that's not for everyone. It isn't instant gradification. It isn't 100% about tactics. It marries twitch gameplay with stratigic preparation. Usually gamers fall in one category or the other. If you can't embrace both world than you will not like this game.

If you can then this is THE game you have been waiting for. Sorry COD guy....this isn't pray and spray that gives out achievements for showing up. You have to be good. You have to think. You have to work together.

Mostly because of one thing. It is fun. Really fun. The gun play is spot on. The loot is varied enough that finding it is exciting. The plot (while not up to the standards of "Star Wars" is pretty good for a shooter. I couldn't recite the plots to any FPS at this point. They're all pretty standard. Can anyone remember Halo's plot, other than Master Chief is on a Halo and shoots a bunch of aliens and eventually blows up the Halo? It looks to me that Destiny's plot is pretty on point with Halo's. It seems really re-playable too. That might be the most important aspect to a game for me. Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.
