So far I am really enjoying the game. It has a Warframe feel to it, but with more polished controls and better shooting mechanics. Not over the top, but still breathtaking.

The one major complaint I have is the lack of match making for PvE missions. You will run into people during your "quests", but for the most part they are doing their own thing and don't want to join you. They really need to add a mission/group board similar to PoE, allowing you to find/advertise for groups as needed. I know this is the number one feature requested by the community, so I expect it will come at some point.

Another thing they need to implement is some form of main city chat. Either by voice or text. SO many people I can't talk to! Also, where is the clan support? It's on Bungie.com but seems to be disabled...

I honestly think they have delivered a fantastic foundation and a truly fun game, and I hope they continue to build upon it. If they maintain an MMO content model with the only purchases past initial game as ~$10 DLC packs, then I am in for awhile.

Let me put this in the simplest of terms: IN ABSOLUTELY NO GALAXY should "Wolfenstein: The New Order" have a higher score than Destiny. Let's just start there.

From the extremely tight and responsive controls, to the vast, wonderful and gorgeous environments, to the crisp graphics, the intriguing storyline, the excellent art direction, the seamless multiplayer, the bungie-mastered competitive multiplayer, the expansive single player, the CONSTANTLY rewarding leveling system.....I could go on and on here.

Spending time in Destiny's world and in it's game experience is a treat. I cannot remember the last time I played a game that felt so good, that I genuinely didn't even care if another cutscene came on or not. While other games (such as the Metal Gear Series) still think its 1996 and cutscenes are impressive enough to wow the gamer, Destiny prides itself on its gameplay being more enthralling than watching a story. Which makes sense, because the medium is VIDEO GAMES....not movies. Playing the game feels unlike any shooter, but also like every shooter(?). Its a weird mashup that feels incredibly tight and enjoyable throughout your entire experience. This game will EASILY eat up 20+ hours and more if you want to get into the hidden co-op exclusive missions that ONLY UNLOCK when you reach level 20.

I LITERALLY have no clue as to WHY the hate for this game exists vs. any of the 8 million other shooters where your their TRUE only objective is....go here...shoot things. I think expectations were unrealistic for this game CLEARLY. It's a PHENOMENAL experience one that belongs on a next generation console and is worth every penny of $60 dollars. Nuff said.

THERE IS NO WAY I would not recommend this game if you are at all interested in a refreshing shooter that feels and looks like it belongs on your brand new $400 and up video game box. There is just too much here, too well done, to ignore and give a mediocre ranking to. Do NOT let these reviewers confuse you.............this is a MASTERFUL game that shows what a talented team can do when they work on a passion project.

So why does this game get a 5 from me? Because there's nothing else. The missions (whether additional or story) are all pretty much identical. The amazement of discovering a new world each time a planet is unlocked is soon dampened by the realisation that whilst the enemies look different, the mission parameters are identical. This repetition alongside very limited customisations to weapons and vehicles and a lack of class specific characterisations left me very disappointed. Despite the unfathomable depth of the scenery in this game, the only word I can use to describe it is shallow.
Maybe DLC and patches will fix this game for future players and those willing to pay for it time and time again, but for me it feels like an amazing game that got aborted somewhere along the way, packaged and fired out in to the stores.
I'd love to say the game is redeemed by its multiplayer, but that's simply not the case. The matchmaking isn't good enough for the amount of time it takes and the maps/weapons/vehicles are no better than Halo 2, a game released a decade ago.
Really disappointing. Worth a few hours of your time but I fear the longevity of this game won't extend past that.

Just like many others around the world I picked up my copy of the long-awaited Destiny for the Xbox One. I popped it in, installed it an about 40 minutes and jumped right into the action. I had played the beta a few months ago, which definitely peaked my interest. As I ran through the first mission I was amazed, the game still blew me away with gorgeous visuals, it plays so well. The movement and shooting feels so natural and precise its awesome, and it makes it fantastic to play. As I moved up in level I managed to join up with a friend, we began making our way through missions which weren't available during the short demo, again I found myself in awe of the beauty.
The loot system is also fun and addictive, many will compare it with Borderlands 2, a loot-centric game, but Destiny is different, the game is not about just loot (which is a good thing). In Borderlands' games I often find myself spending half my time in the menus comparing items, however in Destiny loot is not constantly bombarding you, every so often (just the right amount of time) you find a new piece of equipment, this keeps you playing not comparing stats. When you finally find that new armor piece or weapon that is better than your own it feels rewarding, and often isn't replaced right away. Borderlands throws loot at you so much that your constantly switching items in and out, Destiny allows you to use the loot you have earned rather than swapping it out every few minutes. The weapon leveling system works well and helps a great deal with this, rare items often can level and give you new bonuses, this makes them even more useful and increases longevity.
After a couple hours I decided it was time to play competitively in the crucible. I wasn't sure what to expect, I was only level 7 and I assumed I would be outgunned, but surprise again, the multiplayer is incredibly balanced. Not once did I feel outmatched or out of my depth, the weapons all feel fair and evenly matched. The maps are also extremely well put together, mind you this isn't a surprise, it is Bungie after all.
My only gripe so far is a lack of information, I want more backstory on what happened to earth for it to get to this point, I want more context around all these ruins and abandoned buildings everywhere. Who and what exactly are the Fallen? What exactly is a guardian? Why did I get revived from the dead? I want more! (I have a feeling at least some of these answers will come farther into the game).

This game is massive and there's so much to see and do that no decent reviewer or gamer would dare to review it at this point. Saying that, my review and score are based on my first 8-9 hours in the Destiny universe.

Firstly, this game is a great social experience. Get a fireteam together and head off the Devils Lair and you will pick up loads of loot and have a great time taking down the "bosses". Scouring the Cosmodrome for jobs and loot is a great way to pass the time and now and again, a public event drops in and the guardians in the area band together to take down a walker.

There's a lot to unlock, from armour and guns to sparrows and ships. Then there's the Crucible, if you want to scratch your competitive MP itch. For me this is the weakest part of Destiny and feels a little lightweight compared to Halo's MP. The map design isn't great but I'm sure the DLC will sort that out.

So to sum up so far, Destiny's first few hours in Co-op are excellent and that's where it's strength lies. Give it time and it will grow on you. It's more of an MMO than say Halo, so the more you put in, the more you get out.

Go buy it and have fun. Oh and add me on XBL, gamertag: monkeyofthefunk.

All the story/leveling quests are repetitive kill and fetch quests, and the game truly begins at the soft level cap of 20 - where you then grind up to 30 by getting gear that has light by repeating dungeons and eventually raiding. Destiny is truly great if it is the type of game you are into. However, if you're expecting a story driven single player en-devour it is not the game for you. Expand

In terms of presentation, gameplay, and most importantly, potential, this game deserves an 11 out 10. It's one of the most addictive shooters I've ever played. It manages to combine the loot driven PvE content of Borderlands and the insanely polished and fast paced PvP shooting in Halo.

I'll concede that the story is mediocre at best and some of the minor quests are pretty repetitive (although that's the nature of MMOs), but aside from that, this game is a really fun MMOFPS. It's an absolute blast to play with friends in the Crucible (the PvP arena) as well as in the Strikes and Raids (group PvE content).

Are there things they could have done slightly better? Yes, but overall, it's getting way too much hate from other users and critics. Diablo 3 was a joke when it launched, and it's now been completely revamped into a much more streamlined and enjoyable experience. Destiny has even more potential than Diablo, and there's a pretty huge amount of room for new content and improvement upon existing content.

It's kind of its own thing that borrows a lot of concepts from other games, merges them all nicely--some more than others--and polishes everything so well that if the sun were out it would blind you. It's doing what it wants to do very, very well.

However, a lot of people get the wrong picture, or expect the wrong thing, or just "don't get it" so I'm going to clear a lot of the misconceptions up right now, as neutrally as possible, so as to guide people who are on the fence or help people who don't seem to like it learn to like it more for what it is and not what they were expecting it to be.

Destiny is first and foremost a co-op game, and is greatly enhanced by playing with a tight-knit group of friends. It is also about "grinding." The thing about grinding though, is that it isn't really a grind when you're doing it with your friends. Destiny creates this great play space for your friends to hook up for a few hours and just blow **** up together, whilst slowly gaining power for bigger, crazier things (Storms, Raids, etc).
Destiny's core play model seems to be to lay the groundwork for continual "grind" style advancement, but then serve that up on a silver platter with fun, polished gameplay, frenetic action, and doing it all with your friends, all at easily choosable and switchable levels of difficulty and depth while being able to flip to PvP at the drop of a hat.

It is not without its flaws. The first few hours of pacing are really awful compared to everything mid-Moon and on. Similarly, the game doesn't really hit full stride until you, and your friends, hit max level and you all start gunning for super difficult stuff as a team. Thankfully this only takes about 12-14 hours to get to, and it's not like the game isn't smooth and fun up till then anyway.
The storytelling excels in some places (Venus-endgame/Awoken arc) and falls super flat in others (Ghost's VAing, Dinklage I am disappoint). Many things are not explained well, if at all (bounties, transferring gear between characters, how vendor rep/levels and faction rep works).

All in all, for what it sets out to do, it hits home well enough to have a truck load of staying power, especially if they really ratchet out the expansions and DLC quickly.

In terms of just wanting to hang out with friends and blow **** up while feeling a sense of advancement and at the same time opting in or out of competition at my discretion, this is totally going to be my number one go to now. It hits all those marks with flying colors, at least for me. I just hope enough of my bros stick with it when the dust settles.

    TL;DR
Destiny is co-op loot grind game at its core and if you don't like that then it won't appeal to you at all, but it's the first FPS style one that really gets it right. The gunplay is great, the graphics are fantastic, the underlying design is solid, and the UI/menus/feedback/HUD should be an industry standard.
Bungie cast a mortar and pestle out of gold, polished the crap out of it, made it **** out candy and explosions while you did it, and put in up to five extra handles for your friends.

I can only assume the reason this game has a 5.0 average user rating as of this review due to the fact that half of the players were expecting something else, and the other half realize what it is and like it.

What it is, is a fun but flawed game. The combat, the presentation, the visuals (the world's), the classes, the looting, the co-op even the pvp are all top-tier. However, there are flaws - 1. The Story is egregious, it is atrocious, it stinks. (The premise is incredible, the execution is NOT) 2. (Personal Opinion) I didn't enjoy the same starting points on levels, it kinda took you out of the immersion where you say to yourself, I was just here, and this new mission I am on is something I could have done last time I was here, rather than travel to a different planet to receive the mission and then come back and go through it all again..so yea there's a sense of repetition. 3. (From #2) Repetition - from starting points where you have to go through same bad guys, or the level structure which is exactly the same every time - go here, shoot bad guys, go there, shoot bad guys, deploy ghost, defend ghost against bad guys, mission over. A little bit of change of pace in the mission structure would be nice (But really...think about it...Halo, which gets terrific reviews every time is all about repetition - go here, shoot bad guys, go here, defend against bad guys, repeat. The gameplay is a blast, and the graphics are the best I have seen yet on the xbox one. I love being able to tell if someone is around the corner just by seeing their shadow on surrounding objects if the lighting is right. The gameplay itself is very fluid and seems to be a mixture of Halo, and Mass Effect. The seemless co-op play at any point in the game is a very welcomed addition and something the Xbox one needed, as me and a friend have been waiting for a good co-op game and none had been released to this point unless you count BF4 which I don't consider really co-op since you cannot go through the campaign together. Those bashing the game are just that, bashers. You can tell reading the 0 review ratings that they have put little effort into the game and most likely may not even own the game. The game is not repetitive so far and I have put about 5 hours into it, and each mission is somewhat unique your not just going to point a and b and killing stuff as some others stated. The only reason I have not given the game a 10 is because to me no game can be perfect, there are some little things that I would love to see expanded upon or improved. The tech tree seems pretty lame as in you have no choice on what abilities to unlock each level unless this changes later on. You have a specific ability you get each level, and that is it. So the same class will be to different from each other. However I have noticed there is sub classes that I have yet to unlock and maybe that will add that customization I was hoping to see. Expand

After levelling up the gun and getting it's upgrades, it became much more. The weapon became me and I became the weapon.

If you enjoy Halo, Mass Effect, Borderlands or the like, you should really give the game a try. Stick it out, though and the rewards become more substantial. Additionally, Bungie's post release support plans for new content regularly patched in have me wondering what exotic locales in the Solar System we may yet see. Fantastic game, easily worth a buy to most.

Some of the levels have already provided a good challenge, and I am currently waiting for friends to get their copies to make it more enjoyable (what game isn't more fun with friends).

The way the game was made means Bungie can easily add lots of content in the future.

Not sure what some people were expecting but instead of reading bad reviews from people with nothing else better to do, I'd recommend taking time to go watch gameplay videos, and wait for actual reviews to be released.

So far I've had a ton of fun playing with friends in story mode and strikes and also playing solo in the crucible. I've played roughly 20 hours and finished the story missions.

Graphics are very good, not mind blowing, but better than I expect from 30 fps. Audio is great with gun sounds & explosions done very well and the music is very good also although not as good as Halo. I'm not sure if firing the former Halo music director Marty O'Donnell was a wise decision. Matchmaking for strikes and PvP is fast and the combat play is solid. No server crashes whatsoever. Loot drops and loot awards are random and level appropriate which is a fair and equitable system. Destiny's phone app is the one of the best I've seen allowing you to view your buddies loadouts and even equip and adjust your own loadout.

On the negative side there seems to be a love hate relationship going on with this game, a lot of it I'm sure is due to the hype train setting peoples expectations too high. The other aspect of that is people who were expecting a Mass Effect type of story from the get go. I do agree Bungie could have done a better job fleshing out the story line, maybe introducing a few more memorable characters instead of directing you to Bungie.com to learn more about the lore. That is lame this day in age. We will go to Bungie.com if there is a compelling reason to, not to learn more about the Hive or the Fallen that should have been ingame information. Hopefully they patch in an encyclopedia like the one that was in Mass Effect. Also lacking is the social aspect in the tower. The inability to chat with anyone without having to join a fireteam is just strange when they tout the social aspect of the game. Watching your character dance is not a substitute for this. As I mentioned I've played mostly with friends and I think that's what makes this game fun. For the majority of the bad reviews I bet they were playing solo, which I give Bungie credit for making the game even playable that way. I feel like Bungie is trying to draw in a huge community of solo players and slowing introduce them into the multiplayer world at a pace that makes them comfortable. The risk there is they will get turned off before they join in the multiplayer community.

I give the game an 8 and I hope in a year I can come back and give it a 9 because of the support and content that Bungie has promised to bring so the ball is squarely in Bungie's court to not burn those of us who are enjoying the game. My fear is that it will become way too repetitive and grinding and I will lose interest due to lack of content. I hope my fears are false.

Destiny arrived this morning and I have been playing it for around 7 hours, ergo this is only really a first impressions review. This is coming from a fan of CoD, Halo (Die-hard fan), Battlefield, Boarderlands, and Titanfall, as well as Forza.

For me, the only aspect in which Destiny dissapoints is the actual gunplay. The gunplay feels like a remake gone-wrong of Halo. Honestly, I sometimes felt that if they were gonna rip of their Halo franchise, they should have copied the lot. The shooting is not as snappy, or accuracy-based as Halo is, and that tells me that this game won't ever be competitive. They really should have left the gunplay as it was, because Halo stuck that balance perfectly.

However, this game is more than just shooting. I can't help but feel that all these guys giving it a 0 either haven't given this game a chance, or haven't played it at all. The whole ambience and feel of the world is real and ingaging. The graphic style is awesome, and render/draw distances even more impressive than Dead Rising 3, (and resolution is at full HD 1080p). The soundtrack, though not quite Martin O'Donnell's best work, is atmospheric and iconic.

The most fun to be had is on Patrols, Strikes, and Raids with friends. (No, we didn't complete the raid D: ). The game is certainly a social experiece, and if you don't have a group of 3 or so friends to play with, you won't experience all that Destiny has to offer, and I'd reccomend sticking with CoD or BF or Titanfall. The level design for the open-world is very good. I mean VERY good. The skyboxes are incredible (similar to Titanfall's), and the levels never leave you without action for too long. Character Customization is cool and very extensive, but doesn't persuade me to try to unlock more gear to swag myself up like I was hoping.

Although the crucible is, in some ways, Destiny's achilles heel, due to the frankly bland gunplay, It certainly adds to the experience. I hear complaints that you can't start in the crucible until level 5? Trust me, you probably won't want to. I recommend getting though the first few campaign missions and do a strike with some friends before getting into the crucible. Fundamentally though, The crucible itself lacks identity. Its customization is very extensive (same guardian as co-op), which is fun and interesting, especially for casuals, but compromises competitive play. Crucible is, despite it's relative lack of revolutionary ideas, is great fun and is a greater challenge than that found in co-op. You can rely on the crucible to hold your interest for a few hours until your friends come online.

Lastly, the framerate is very steady for me, never dropping at all. The controller is perfect for this game, which in some ways actually redeems it. Having played the game on my PS4 aswell, I can tell you that X1 is the place to play Destiny. Movement is fluid, responsive and natural, unlike the clunky nature of the PS4 controller, plus there is no spec difference between the versions. Matchmaking (where applicable) is rapid and finds great, no-lag games most of the time, with matches being close almost every time as well.

The Verdict! Destiny is not perfect. Neither is is the best game of the year, nor Bungie's best game. But, with the debatable exception on crucible and gunplay, the game is fun an unique in its own right. This isn't the Holy Grail of fps games, no game ever will be, but this game has impressed me. Its scale is massive. This game is fun, and is worth the price tag. I certainly do not regret my purchase, and would recommend this to any FPS fan, looking mainly for a co-op/singleplayer experience.

Borderlands + Halo + Mass effect with a MMO twist to it... simply amazing. There is a very solid PVP in this game, sure it's not balanced or competitive as Halo (especially the coming Halo 5!), but it's still very solid.

Ton of content solo, coop, pvp, "raids", dynamic events... it really is its own thing, love it! easily a 9/10.

I am really struggling to understand some of the negative reviews for Destiny. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but giving Destiny a zero is not credible in my view. It leads me to suspect that the writers of such reviews are either working for the competition or their just being objectionable.

I've read lots of reviews; official critics and users who have said that Destiny is trying to be all things and mastering none. This could be true, but it depends what you want. The question in my view is "do you enjoy playing it?". If you do, does it matter what it's trying to be?

Ok so there are games that have deeper RPG elements - if you want the depth, play Diablo. From what I've seen so far there are lots of weapons & ability upgrades, with gradual enough increments to make it fun; without needing an encyclopedia.

No story? I'm not a fan of cut scenes, so the minimal story is fine with me - I enjoy running around the beautiful landscapes and shooting things; in this respect Destiny ticks the boxes. The shooting element, which is actual the point of the game is fantastic.

I'm a massive fan of Battlefield and in my view it is hard to beat for multiplayer - but battlefield's 32 v 32 matches are chaos 99% of the time and unfortunately in my experience the cooperative / team element of battlefield is not fully exploited by players. Very few player use the mic and the vast majority play the game as loners. Even so great game. Destiny is a different thing and not trying to compete.

The co-op missions in Destiny are the highlight - you really feel like you're working as a team even with no verbal communication; it's very natural and feels better than Battlefield in my view.

We can get picky about the details if we want; talking about weapons balance etc....boring...There plenty of weapons from high rate of fire kill everyone in the room types to precision weapons, to all kinds of specials....so pick the weapons you enjoy playing with and have fun and don't complain about this weapon being over power or that one taking too long to reload.

The only area that is negative in my view is the AI; for the most part the enemies appear in exactly the same places and aren't particular clever. Yes they hide behind cover when your are hitting them from range, but they don't stay there and pop out now and again so you can shoot them in the head; when realistically you'd just stay behind the cover and wait for the enemy to come to you; or try some suppression and diversion to get some bodies in amongst the sniper. Where fights get tough it's because either there are a lot of enemies or/and they have a lot of hit points & fire power; not because they are smart. This is a pity, but Destiny manages to pitch the challenge nicely against your level, so your are in the most part on the edge of your players ability.

Overall great game that will keep you coming back for hours on end.

VERY LONG TIME GAMER REVIEW. I played atari and got a NES system when they were brand new. Have played almost every system released since, even 3do.

THIS IS AN UPDATED REVIEW AFTER PLAYING FOR ONE WEEK I AM RETAINING MY 9 RATING as some of my only issues have already been corrected. I did not consider them in my original first impression review as they seemed like day one launch type glitches that are usually resolved immediately. And they were. So maybe 9.5

    The Negative:

    1. Server issues. I don't want to see another code "fly" "hare" or "centipede" again, EVER! This game seems to be 100% connected and requires internet access to play at all times. This is scary considering how fun this game is. If the achilles heal here is the internet or server access. UPDATE: The server issues have settled, as I have not had more than 1 or 2 disconnections since the day one issues. I've noticed a couple of updates that hopefully fixed the problem. Also, one issue I noticed was with the sound. This still seems to be an issue and it occurs when you leave the game for some time and maybe "xbox go to TV" for a bit and then come back. Whenever I returned, I would have sound for xbox commands but not for the game itself. FULL REBOOT needed. Now I can just re-sign in and it seems to correct the sound. FIX THIS!

    2. Repetitiveness - As any long time or informed gamer will know, every game is repetitive to an extent. Historically some of the most simple and repetitive games are also the most successful, ie PacMan. It is expected and to base your whole negative review on that element says a lot about how much you do not understand about yourself and games. The only negative thing I feel when I play this game, when it comes to repetitiveness is with the levels themselves. It takes away from the richness, realness and diversity of each individual level or mission when you have already been to the exact same area in a previous one. It is still challenging, just distracting. It feels cheap and adds a rushed feel when you encounter this as a gamer. It's kind of like when you compare the original "Yoda" from Star Wars vs the CGI Yoda of the newer Star Wars. The original Yoda was more life-like and convincing. With the original puppet Yoda, you were not distracted by thoughts of the CGI version like, "I wonder if the actor was actually talking to someone when they acted out this scene or if they were pretending someone was there??" That is kind of how I felt about the recycling of the levels, it was distracting and took away from the reality or real factor as you try to imagine a real life situation that would warrant coming back to the same place over and over again to fight a different enemy... "Why didn't we just do that the first time we were here?"

    3. Difficulty Settings Are Limited - I love the challenge of increasing the challenge, but that is difficult to do from a single player standpoint. You only get two choices in this and it is possible that you could select a difficulty making the completion of the level impossible or too time consuming. This may be irrelevant as this game is very well balanced and seems to adjust to you, never dull or never too easy on "normal."

    4. Lack of social presence. Seems crazy when you consider you see other players all the time in this game. This is unlike Rockstar's "Red Dead" where you could chat within proximity of other players. You cannot chat with others unless you are partied up.

    The good:

    1. This game is so well balanced it is like a hybrid of a reality based game, first person shooter, and fantasy. Almost everything can be customized, ranked up, and expanded upon. Your stats, gear, and record are public and comparing with friends is very easy. Which for any competitive player, will suck you right in. You can add some variety to your character by adding and ranking up sub-classes as you go. I have only touched on this and it seems exciting and strategically challenging. Your classes only grow with level rank increase so you begin questioning, "Do I focus on my primary class or secondary?" Your rank is your rank. It and your weapons carry over from the storyline to multiplayer. I love this, it reduces the learning curve and encourages more people to play multiplayer versus.

    2. Social factor - As of this review conversing freely with other players is not happening. But the presence of other players carrying out their missions distant from you and sometimes crossing with your objective, is really cool.

3 Visually stunning you will stop and gaze.

The bottom line: This is a great game. The negative are very minor in comparison to the addictiveness, fun, challenge, and richness of this game. If you buy this game you will not be disappointed.

You are thrown in the game without much explanation and puzzle your own picture together in the 12 - 15 hours of storymode. Which is the biggest criticpoint of Destiny and was to expected to be, but not for the -in other reviews- stated reasons. You make your own story, the game was never intended to play like a Halo nor a Borderlands. You are one guardian of the city, one of many. So your character lacks the depth a few people were expecting. But there is not a single second in the game you don't feel as part of a larger struggle for riddled mankind to fight its way back to the golden age. Atmospheric, the Game is an absolute blast. From gorgeous graphics to the variety and appearance of enemy's to the deep, yet to be explored lore. Backed by martys ( he will be missed ) incredible music.
The Game sucks you in its world so much that it leaves to much unanswered. The story feels to short for the big Universe which is its biggest weakness. It cries for more because you had so little interactions with other characters and you are left with so many questions. But Bungie could patch sidequests or unlock more story endgame as time goes on.

As a level 20 you have everything what you see unlocked the game guides you no more and you are on your own. The Strike playlist lets you replay random strikes at 4 different difficulties ranging from normal which is quite challenging on its own up to hard and extremely hard difficulties which grant access to high end loot and vanguard points that can be invested in any legendary vanguard equipment back at the tower. Currently there seem to be 5 strikes all quite unique, all rewarding if you succeed.
The Game never feels like a big grind which is a good thing if you don't like this mmo aspect its always rewarding because every enemy has the chance to drop engrammes that contain random loot from common to legendary.
Crafting is a bit simplistic but never the less lets you many options for customizing your gun ( especially high end ones ) and upgrades can become expensive calling you to collect the ingredients or demontating your unneeded equipment for parts.
The Guns all feel really good and fit in with the smooth gameplay which plays like a hybrid between halo 2/3 and MW 1/2 not to slow not too fast making it one of the best playing fps games in a long time.

This especially shows in the crucible ( multiplayer ) when fighting other guardians. The game has a huge focus on skill, allowing a good sniper to dominate the map, even sniping drivers out of enemy vehicles. Map control is hugely important for controlling the crucial ammo spawns ( one guy with a loaded machinegun can turn a game ) and vehicles all off whom are balanced allowing for a easy flank or a blast to hell with your super.
It also brings Halo like medals and complete gamestatistics all stored on bungie.net leaving only the wish / hope for some kind of theatre mode in the future to complete the experience.
For people complaining the multiplayer is unbalanced, there seems to be some code in the game to negate your lvl advance and higher weapon damage so all play on a level playing field. As tested I have not seen a single unfair weapon each and everyone of the weapons you collect have drawbacks, some allow to compensate trough skill and allow for a quick kill.

    In Summary :
    positive:
    +Great Atmosphere / Immersion
    +Beautiful graphics
+Smooth controls and flawless gameplay / weaponplay
    +Variety of enemy's and places
    +great multiplayer
+ 12 - 15 hours scratching on the surface of a deep universe
+ All game is playable with up to 2 friends
    + Challenging and rewarding content

    Negative:
    - Soundtrack is great but a bit repetitive
    - Storycharacters remain unexplored in large parts
    - Story has left way to many questions open
    - no bazillion gunz

In Summary, its not an Mmo, its not Borderlands, its not Halo, its Destiny.
It is primarily a sci-fi shooter with big lore potential and its massively fun to play with a small group of friends, or in multiplayer. The game was made to easily add contend in the future as of daily Updates or paid Dlc, remains to be seen. Its definitively no 0 (people so massively disappointed really should have played the Beta to get an Impression) and its not a perfect game at whole. But the Multiplayer and coop part come very close to that. In Addition comes the great Immersion of the game in general.

    All in all 8.5-9 / 10.

I guess people are complaining because they expected an MMO when this game has always clearly been a first pirson shooter. For a shooter fan, this doesnt feel like grinding as it is designed to put you into insane firefights. Best fun Ive had so far is getting a few guys together, turning the difficulty up and going off.

I feel they have done a great job at bringing two major game types into one. Those being the FPS and MMORPG (kind of). This obviously isn't the MMORPG in a traditional sense, but it does have elements that help to satiate us who enjoy that game type.

I suggest taking your time with this game. Don't simply run through the storyline, because as many have stated, that will be boring. Do some story missions, explore on patrol with bounties, head over to PVP, team up with some friends for co-op. There are so many elements to this game that I feel are being ignored by people simply chewing up the storyline content and then giving negative reviews.

Overall, are the story missions a little repetitive? Yeah. But, there is so much more content here that you can really immerse yourself into the world. This game truly has all the elements I am looking for - PVP, RPG, raiding, co-op play, character growth...Very please with the game.

Take your time in the beginning and it will pay off in spades.

The open world of Destiny is beautiful and not all the same. The co-op is good but it is only 3 players why not 4!!!!.... Multiplayer is 6 vs. 6 and seems so far to be the weekest point of the game. It's basically domination from Call of Duty. Some of the players on that seem way over powered and impossible to kill at times. Bright spot on the multiplayer is certain vehicles and turrets as well on some of the bigger maps.

Co-op is a lot of fun and the best way to play this game. Playing this game alone is very difficult at times and may even seem impossible.

Music in this game is amazing! 10/10
Graphics are very well done 9/10
    Controls 7.5/10
Story 9/10 so far (still playing!)
    Sound 9/10

I wish there was more loot in the game similar to Borderlands.
The open world exploration is awesome and helps you rank up to beat other missions! The Darkness you fight (aliens) are smart and at times tough. The bosses in this game are pretty awesome. I have seen Wizard aliens, Demonic looking Aliens and Massive Eyeball alien and a Huge Tank. I think this game is a good first effort. I would recommend you picking it up if you are a fan of Halo, COD, Borderlands etc

Give this game time as you play it as it just keeps getting better! Make sure you explore the tower for upgrades and rewards and meeting fellow gamers!

So what that means is you can play with your friends and explore the inner solar system with your friends and even some strangers. You start off on Earth and like most RPG's there is a short tutorial to get you some basic gear and teach you basic controls. After that you can do quite a few different things and the world opens up quite a bit. Under the Hood- Technically I could not be more happy with this game. It looks great on the Xbox One and also on the Xbox 360. I have not seen it yet on PS4 but I'm sure it looks good there too. Graphics are not everything but good graphics also doesn't hurt either. I found myself just walking around looking at stuff as there is tons of detail and environmental effects to take in. It being an online only game worried me a bit. I can't speak for everyone but both during the Beta and my first night of playing it went totally ok. I expected some issues on day one and there were none, nada, not any. That's amazing and I can't believe it hasn't been talked about more. Many, many online only games have all had major issues at launch. GTA Online was unplayable for example for quite a few people for the first week. Just saying. Did everyone forget that? I guess so. The sound design is also top notch. Many gamers play with terrible tv speakers or cheap gamer headphones all the time so they probably won't notice this at all but I did and wow. The game sounds amazing in 5.1 surround and my subwoofer really enjoys telling me when things explode. The effects are fantastic as well. While you are indoors with a metal wall it sounds like it. You don't have the exact same samples played for every situation. Why is this a big deal? Its a big deal because they paid a lot of attention to details to make this game both look and sound top notch because you will be playing it for hundreds of hours. These little details will pay off at hour # 100 for sure. Gameplay- The gameplay for me is very familiar, fluid, and fun. The gunplay is like most modern shooters. Left trigger aims, right trigger shoots, reload is x, etc, etc. I play a lot of FPS games so I felt right at home with the controls. I can't speak for the PS4 because I don't own one but the XB1 controller feels made for this game. You get a ton of feedback from the controller at all times. This is the first XB1 game I've played that so far has used the new tech they put in the triggers. So the shooting is really fun. After level 2 or 3 you get your own speeder bike. Its as cool as it sounds and you can basically ride that around and have a great time if you wanted to. They need to add in speeder bike races if they didn't already! I played as the Hunter class because I did in the Beta and I really like the double jump and the knife throwing that character can do. I have friends that use the other classes and they seem pretty fun too. If you play in a group it might be best to have a mix of classes for best effect, ymmv. Story ( no spoilers ) - There is a story but it seems more of tool to facilitate you shooting more aliens. I for one don't mind this at all. There are cut scenes but they are short and I think you can even skip them. The cut scenes are really well done though so at least the first time I'd maybe give them a watch. I can already tell there is a lot more that is going to open up after I level up more but I'm in no hurry to get there. For me its more about the journey than the destination especially with a brand new game. Play it for yourself here. Gripes- A minor gripe and this is more of a personal preference is there is very little humor. Its very dry like Halo in that serious stuff is going down and you have to fix it. Such drama! So if you love Borderlands for its humor ( and you should ) don't get this expecting the same. If you are playing this with a group of friends and you really should be you can make your own humor. This is the only reason I gave it a 9 and not a 10. My other gripe and its almost not one is the load times. They are a bit long I think but at the same time they are some of the best loads screens ever. You see your spaceship flying around and you can even customize this later on in the game. So this really could be a positive in the long run. Overall 9/10 - If you like FPS, RPG's, are a gamer, etc give it a shot on your console of choice. I plan on putting many hours into this myself so if see a human Hunter on XB1 that lays waste to aliens like a pro it just might be me. Happy gaming. Expand

Spent all of yesterday running through as a Warlock and had a blast with some friends on hard mode.

Loot doesn't drop as often as other games (re: BL) but it does feel more important or more of an upgrade. I'd rather have this system than be swimming in useless loot.

Where Destiny really shines is in the combat system. Action is fast paced, there are a variety of weapons to choose from to suit your style, as you progress through the skill levels your abilities improve. The controls for the most part are very smooth, most importantly the shooting, grenade and knife throwing etc. the on screen map is great too. It's a circular compass that makes it really easy to find your enemies. The enemy AI improves as you go as well. The only problem I had with the game play is weapon switching with the "y" button occasionally jammed or was a little slower than optimal. You keep so many weapons in your arsenal in would be nice for Destiny to make use of the kin next and let you switch primary weapons via voice command.

The game is also quite social. The game really encourages you to play with friends and offers a wide variety of co-op and PvP options to make this happen. The guardian can dance, salute and point too which helps for making friends with strangers when you encounter them when playing solo. Graphically, Destiny is beautiful. Environments are rich and vary throughout the game.

Xbox 1 gamers have been waiting for exciting software for almost a year now. Destiny is that game. it does play a lot like Halo, but with all types of new features and emphasis on multiplayer gaming.

So with that being said, I play games for fun..though I am competitive. Through the beta and first few levels of D, to be honest I was kind of bored.

and then I played level 8 story last night. Now, maybe I am getting used to it, maybe I am learning the combo of weapons needed to take down enemy..who knows, who cares.....

Because at level 8 story, playing a 2 man fireteam, the game came alive for some reason. Things were chasing us, guarding our dead body so no one could revive us, dancing around us....It was pretty insane....and I have to tell you, a lot of fun....Then I happened into a friends game on level 9 on Venus....that was even more fun.

So I would say this, especially to the not so good casual gamers. learn your weapons, don't be afraid to use them in combo and play the game like the AI is way smarter than you.....The game starts getting insane and FUN in later levels......

For the first time since the BETA...I can't wait to get on again tonite..... (PS, another hint...play some patrol missions too..and collect ALL the pieces left on the ground after killing people...they hold engrams and weapons and all kinds of stuff..the more you kill, the more you get..)

This has been great for me and friends. The ability to switch between X1 and 360 means I have also been able to play with everyone at some point. The only downside I can site is the max 3 man fire teams for Coop gameplay. As someone who lives in a house with 5 Xbox 360s, this is a little disappointing. Expand

I have played it non-stop since I bought it on release day. I wasn't prepared for how hooked I would become on the multiplayer. The balance and mechanics are amazing - if this game only had the loot and multiplayer aspects it would still be a hit IMO. I'm so hooked on the multiplayer and dropping in to the odd strike that I'd say I'm less than halfway through the story, and I'm level 26.Having said that, I haven't it a 10 because what I have played of the story didn't grab as much as I had hoped.

I think the thing that really hurt this game is the feverish hype it generated. Bungie and Activision did what you'd expect any company to do. I think it came from media and fans who had played the beta. People had this ultimate gaming utopia in their mind and, not surprisingly, Destiny did not perfectly fill it for most people.

Grinding through a game just to get to the top isn't playing a game. It isn't exploring and learning and experiencing. I would love to see the halfway decent, competent review that has come out since the game released that hits everything. Yes everything. Because until you can do that you are not qualified to give a proper score.
This game is something different and it seems that people hate change. It is fun and I haven't found questing or general exploration to be anything but a hoot. The only problem is that the multiplayer matching system can seem a bit unbalanced even though it is supposed to even everyone out. But then again COD does the same thing and that's all people play in that game.
This is a long term endeavor. Something that won't take the weekend for you to complete. Don't expect to find everything out of the gate. Don't expect to get overpowered. For those who like to play like that then nothing will every satisfy you because you are more interested in blowing other people away rather than enjoying the game. Maybe it isn't always about being the best and winning all the time. Maybe sometimes it is just about enjoying the game. Pffffft. Like you all aren't going to rip that line apart.
Give the game a try. You might like it.

To be fair I started judging this game shortly after Bungie handed off the reins to 343 after reach was launched. The initial rumblings were a kin to a mmo but with shooter aspects. This intrigued me. long have I thought that Bungie could have done something like this with the halo franchise but I digress. The game play feels solid. Shooting mechanics are as to be expected in a vary Bungie style. The super ability are thought out and as for cool down time I am not sure why people complain about it. If you are frugle and work on your building your character you can unlock armor that drastically reduces the time need to build that up. Also if you pay attention to your level upgrades you can decrease it even further. The levels are huge in patrol mode and in story missions they still feel large but they do not let you stray to far from your goal. Once you hit a firefight you are in for a treat. They are tight and full of action. You will be looking for cover a lot if you have a low level character but that is a good thing if you were a tank right off the bat it would not be as enjoyable when you unlock really good gear. I would like to address a few comments at this point about communication. Yes you have to invite people to chat with you in order to organize you fire team. with that said most of the time I will never talk to you but I will help you, kill things, and revive you if you need that. Most players use to proximity mics and open headset screaming will not like this game because it is not for you. We have COD and Halo for that. Go play those games. This is a MMO lite. As for grinding for gear and weapons. That is inherent apart of rpgs. I knew that going in. if you know that going in you will do just fine and enjoy the game. The one thing holding this game back is the less than informative story. If you want to know what is going on you have to go to Bungie.net and look at the cards you unlock. (by the way if you upgrade cards on their you will get extra bonuses in game.) That is a little annoying. That is my only issue. The worlds are huge fun to play in the game play is frantic at times and slow when needed. I also fee that at the "end of the game" the real game starts. With raids and high level replays the game gets new legs.

At the end of the day I love the game. The little things that annoy me are just that little and I think the story missions with the expansion pass will greatly increase the playability of the game for years to come. My final notes. Please disregard the day one reviews. Anyone bold enough to shout out "Terrible not worth your money." has not had time to truly play the game and ultimately has not the experience nor the knowledge to truly rate the game and is just click bate. also I will add one * to my review. I enjoy Bungie game. I have owned many. I also have not enjoyed playing cod or battlefield. So also please take my review with a grain of salt. I like Bungie. I have fallowed them for a long time and at the end of the day if you see me come say hi or join in a dance party. If you need help reach out to the Bungie community and someone will answer your call. This game is not for the what I like to call "Bro game" but is truly for the rpg mmo crowd that enjoys a good shooter.

Some say it does a lot but nothing exceptionally well. Guess what people. This is the FIRST of it's kind. It's about stacking stats, specing into situations, organizing group dynamics, and preparing tactics for boss fights.

This game is more mmo than anything else but core mechanics make it FPS. I played Wow and thought i would "beat the game" when i hit level cap. I found out after 6 months of leveling that i completed the "tutorial" and the real game was about to begin. Bungie has borrowed that exact architecture. Sadly that's not for everyone. It isn't instant gradification. It isn't 100% about tactics. It marries twitch gameplay with stratigic preparation. Usually gamers fall in one category or the other. If you can't embrace both world than you will not like this game.

If you can then this is THE game you have been waiting for. Sorry COD guy....this isn't pray and spray that gives out achievements for showing up. You have to be good. You have to think. You have to work together.

I never write reviews but felt I had to for destiny because I see people judging a game they have not even finished or finished and don't even bother to attempt the endgame.

Id like to start with all the **** over repetitive missions. im just gonna throw a few games out here Call of Duty, Battlefield, Borderlands, Diablo 1-3, Grand Theft Auto series, pretty much every game ever made.

Fps games like CoD or BF is the same round after round kill each other and take objective or retrieve bomb or whatever. then we have borderlands which all of its quests are the same as destiny. go retrieve x and bring to y go kill x many or fight in corridors and kill this boss. then we have diablo the king of repetition. so I fail to see why people can love those games (and every other game on the planet) but when destiny does it somehow its wrong? Either people need to take their stupid pills or everyone is losing their minds. I never judge a game by this because when you boil it down every game falls into kill x, retrieve y, fight here go there. Argue this point all you want but you might as well bash every other game that you play.

Second people who don't finish the game or finish the Story missions and quit should not be posting any reviews because honestly you have not played the best part. I finished the story and finished leveling to 20 and did my first heroic story daily mission, and yes it was a random mission from the ones you already played but when I got to that last boss fight it was one of the most hair pulling yelling at tv fights ive had in a long time but it was also the most fun once I finished I realized destiny is going to be amazing. I was a little let down they didn't have more variety in the types of missions granted its more kill x or grab y but wish they had more to cycle through but all that ended once hit level 20 and fought my first heroic daily boss. the fight was really tough but it wasn't because they made the fight overly difficult and they didn't just give the enemies ridiculous health what bungie has done is genious.

Bungie just doesn't up the health and damage like so many games I see. Granted they did both of those but it was minimal compared to other games what they did do was make the enemies more aggressive and threw more of them at you and nothing is more nerve racking then trying to regen health behind cover only to be swarmed from all angles. Bungie made you use all your abilities you have to win and they set it up to keep you on the move dodging fire instead of hiding. I had so much fun once I figured that out and after I did I still kept dying but I knew it was my fault for not learning the fight and once I did learn it I finally took down the boss and it was amazing.

What im saying is ignore all the morons that quit early and don't even attempt the endgame so im here to tell you ignore them and keep playing it gets better so much better I cant wait to try my first raid. Hell the guild that took down the first raid played for 14 hours straight and died 1605 times and when they finished bungie congratulated them and told them to try it again on hard mode. lol.

If you like shooters and you like a challenge play this game yes the leveling can be a little dull and I gave it a 9/10 because the story has a great setting but they failed to execute and that's why dropped it one point. But I can tell you if you want a challenge and like games with combat that is not broken and abilities that compliment your guns then ignore all the haters and give this game a try. I guess if you like to have your hand held and don't like a challenge then I have nothing to say to you because your not a real gamer.

Welcome to destiny. the game welcomes you into its relatively vast world and great art design, with the great customization and choices at the very beginning, all the way to the end, and the engaging plot. but don't be mistaken, a great beginning does not mean a great end.

Destiny bombards you with hoards of loot, making it ever more satisfying to get a new piece that looks great, and has a higher rating than your current one. the different choices of weapons you can have further this customization, by letting you play the way you want in combat. but with the mass of loot you get, once you reach a certain point it becomes like the lottery. you end up throwing more money at it than you get. there are many shops that allow you to purchase new gear, but the legendary and above, being the standard for most 20 and up players, takes a large sum of your time to be able to purchase it, forcing you to play missions you may not like, since most legendary gear you can purchase requires a different type of currency, being significantly more difficult to farm than glitter, the standard currency. and after that you still cannot purchase this shiny outfit or weapon you want, unless you have done enough quests for the person, or group. but when you finally get your hands on the new piece of gear, it feels amazing. this game truly is, at end game, quite Grindy. but most of the time you will have fun doing it, boss battles, PvP, you name it.

Speaking of boss battles, they can get insane. the bosses may be easy, as they are usually big and wonky beasts, with many corners and walls to hide behind when it attacks, but its the gigantic army of minions it has to help it that make the battle challenging, consisting of mini-bosses, and other enemies hard enough on their own. it eventually boils down to one player baiting the boss away from the others so they can take out the minions, with the later job being harder. and when that is done, you have a well designed boss battle to fight out, with a boss with usually around a million Hp, it usually feels like. and when you finally kill the abomination, you can dance on its corpse, quite literally, and compare the great loot you got with your raid partners.

PvP feels wonky. it takes a while to get used to the fact that unless you use an auto rifle and a shotgun, you will probably die a fair amount. getting good with other weapons in PvP takes some practice. but when you do, others will probably think your hacking, like any other PvP based game. and it feels good. Tons of maps to play on, all very well designed and balanced. some for long range combat, others close quarter, others can be both. there are different PvP modes, like large scale modes such as a hold the point game mode, and team death match. the best thing about PvP is that its skill based. there is no best weapon, no best armor, there is only you and how you play. well, besides the hunters, who are terrifying close up. the warlocks are amazing for crowd control, i remember one time, i killed all 6 players on the other team with my super charge. i was immediately labeled a hacker after that, like any multiplayer game ever, but boy did it feel good. the titan is surprisingly, more of a supportive role, as you will usually see a titan running around spamming his shield in a fight, making him temporarily invincible, making it very easy to take capture points, or if your in a sticky situation. once again, there is no best class.

the art style is bright and happy on earth, dark and depressing on the moon, ETC... The sound track makes it ever more immersive, with the booming of a fight, the soft melody of the cosmodrone...
the mechanics are great with the game. i cant stress this enough.

the main problem with this, is the lack of story. the story missions, while ultimately leading up to something, never tell you much about the lore, or story of the guardians or traveler. this can be fixed easily in expansions, just like the other weakness of the game.

I hope this was helpful, as this review was more to show you the mechanics of the game, less the game itself. there are plenty of reviews for that. but what everyone is complaining about seems to be the "questing system" which is traditional MMO questing, like, go here and kill this, go there and collect this. this is only in one mission type people! and its an optional mission type! if you don't like this, don't do it. that simple. its made for mainly glitter farming, and just goffing off, you dont have to quest.

but other than this, there is nothing wrong with destiny. the many people who claim the game to be bad, are comparing destiny to games it can't be compared to. this game is more of an MMO than a borderlands, its more of a shooter than an MMO even.this is a very unique game, and it gets the job done, through and through. i hope this was helpful. i would have written more, but im almost out of characters :D

i hope this convinced you to purchase this great game.

People need to realize that games are meant to be for FUN. What it lacks, or has too much of, does not matter. It is the most excellent shooter I've played to date. The graphics, mechanics, weapons and abilities all contribute for a well rounded and enjoyable experience. The open world concept with other gamers continuously around is a great way to make it more fun too, being able to interact with other players. Bungie did a GREAT job at this game, and anyone who says otherwise is likely a "glass half empty" sort of person. The fact that this game is from Bungie and people were led to believe that this game was the Halo of the 8th generation did not allow any room for failure or constructive interpretation. My suggestion is buy the game as if you have never heard of it before and know nothing of its pre release hype and expectations and play the game with a clean slate and neutral mind. You'll be surprised how engaging and entertaining this game can be with the right mindset.

PS. Take extreme user ratings with a grain of salt such as 0's. They are most likely using the rating system impulsively and based off an emotional response to the game rather than a calculated and thorough analysis of the game.

I'm giving it a 9, because there is no splitscreen and there is absolutely no reason to not have this option (especially with Bungie's past popular shooter). Also, sometimes the servers are wacky (but that is to be expected from any new game). Aside from that, the game is adventurous and exciting, very challenging. The gameplay changes completely depending on your arsenal or class. The game has a nice balance between PVP and PVE options. The crucible is not in your face, like a lot of FPS games tend to do (focusing solely on the pvp content) it gives the players the choice to choose either Strike missions or Crucible games, or even a bit of both- instead of strictly catering to one or the other. -Good Lore

What shooter fan wouldn’t want a Halo meets Borderlands game? The music and level scripting from Halo and the shooting and looting of Borderlands, 2 great tastes that taste great together. Perfect! Since then the game has launched and the reaction, both personally and professionally, is lukewarm. The reviews have been less than expected from what Bungie’s pedigree would have predicted and the internet has been ablaze with hilarious Twitter parody accounts. But I digress. Despite the lack of story and the busted loot system, I have been enjoying my jaunt around the universe. Maybe a little too much…
I am a recovering WoW addict, always will be. Farming, raiding, grinding, you name it, I did it. So going on to my second full year of being Blizzard free has been a learning experience. Needless to say, I can spot a MMO when I see it. I really don’t care how Bungie tries to spin it, Destiny is a MMO.
If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it’s not a raccoon. We have the easy comparisons. Raids, colored items and weapons, rep farming for rewards, collectable mounts. All real easy to spot as a MMO trope and Bungie can’t deny it. But what is harder to spot and not as easy to identify as a characteristic of an MMO are the social features and implications.
Arguably the best thing to come from Destiny is the loot cave. An endless spawning black hole of green, blue and purple shinnies that have players huddled around a dirt mound shooting in a straight line. It was a fruitful process and netted me many new items and materials. And now it’s gone, hot fixed in a Thursday morning patch. But the social experience continues. Years down the road we can say “remember the loot cave?” While it does live on in a web based game, those that missed out will never know what it’s like to mindlessly shoot into a hole. Well, at least the way we did. A similar comparison is the war effort in WoW. Do you remember where you were when the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj were opened on your server? I don’t, because I wasn’t playing when that happened. That killed me as a WoW player, and continues to kill me as a Destiny player. I don’t want to miss out.
These kind of social experiences and events are what keep me going back to Destiny. I don’t want to miss anything that the world will be talking about tomorrow. So much so that I used the Destiny LFG to join a raid group full of people I don’t know. I was in the Vault of Glass, shouting out terms like “burn the adds” and “I can rez in 5”, all for what? To say I completed raid content when it was relevant? We all know it’s not for the gear that drops, or lack thereof.
Social gaming is a powerful tool. It keeps players interest and motivated, a blessing and a curse. But for me, it triggers too many old feelings of having to log just so that I don’t miss out on that all important pair of pants or new accessory for my digital doll.

The gunplay and overall controls feel very responsive and polished, this is complemented by an excellent selection of weapons. Along with this, the maps are quite vast and detailed, a real joy to explore especially with your friends, if not a little small. Killing enemies is very satisfying, especially with the sniper rifles. I also like the idea of the tower as the hub for the game, allowing players to take a break from exploring to come and customise their character. Now, the real element of the game that has kept me hooked for hours upon hours is the character progression and customisation. It feels great to receive new armour, helmets and boots that can improve your character as you level up; it really does feel rewarding and reels me in to continue playing. Also the graphics and music are stunning and top notch.

In saying this, the game has its flaws. The story is meh at best with very repetitive mission structure. This didn't bother me personally as I am more interested in the gameplay elements of the game but it is still a flaw. Also, it seems that the number of players on a map is alway very low. It would be great to have 20-30 people on one server, exploring and taking up missions, creating a fantastic mmo atmosphere. Enemy spawning is also sometimes annoying, as often, you kill a group of enemies and leave for a few seconds, and upon returning the VERY same enemies are back in the same location. This is slightly annoying and makes the game a bit predictable in patrol.

Do not let these negatives turn you off of buying this title, as it is still a thoroughly enjoyable experience if time is invested into playing it. All of these people scoring the game between 0 and 4 are kidding themselves, this is a title worth a try.

    So to sum up:

    PROS:
    -Excellent, responsive gunplay/gameplay
    -Great selection of weapons
    -Vast, expansive worlds
    -Amazing character customisation
    -Top notch graphics and music

    CONS:
    -Poor story
    -Repetitive missions
    -Low numbers in worlds
    -Predictable enemy spawns

    Overall score: 8/10 - Great

As a coop game this gets a 9 for me. To play alone without friends or PVP, I'd rank it a 7, but overall, this game is a lot of fun. This is just my opinion. I'm an older experienced gamer (37) with a wife and kids. I can honestly say I've been a gamer for 30+ years. I can honestly say I've been a gamer for 30+ years. At this stage in my life, I don't have the time for (or I choose to prioritize other things over) full blown MMO games. I'm also playing competitive shooters less and less (COD/BF, etc.) as the skill level of the players now days makes it a frustrating experience for me.. With my limited game time, I feel Destiny strikes a perfect balance between a fun coop shooter and an MMO RPG. High level concepts from both genres, but not exceedingly deep in either.

The competitive mode is just okay. Playing the game solo, or should I say, antisocially...is just okay. Co-op, however, has been a fun and rewarding experience that will keep me playing for a while. I have 5 buddies all around my age who also purchased the game. We've been tackling missions on the hardest settings and building our characters to compliment each other's strengths & weaknesses. When I do have time to play, I have had a blast with this game and all of my friends feel the same way. There's just enough of an RPG element to keep me wanting to play more, upgrade and make my character as bada** as I can. As a shooter it satisfies my desire to shoot things and embark on these strange lands with friends and kick a** together. This game is made to be played socially in order to really get the full experience. However, I think those wanting a hardcore competitive shooter, or a deep MMO experience will find themselves lacking. This likes somewhere casually between the two. The best experience in my own opinion has been playing co-op. Setting the difficulty high and having to really watch each other's backs, save up your special attacks for the perfect moment, etc. All of these things keep things intense and very enjoyable. I love this game but if you don't have friends who will play with you, it might not be as fun for you.

Probably one of the best shoot em up games on the x'bone. Graphics and audio are great. Multiplayer is good and works - more than you can say for drive club, master chief collection, etc! There is very little story to capture you imagination, but I find I keep going back to it for a blast and it's still as fun as day one.

I have had a lot of fun with this game. In fact, it's probably one of the best games I've played in a while. However I feel the game is missing many features, and I think they were in a hurry to release it. I definitely believe that Destiny could meet expectations over the next year or so, provided Bungie supply us with free updates. It's definitely worth a buy, as there is a lot of replay value.

Destiny is a fun sci-fi FPS (not an MMO) with great graphics and an incredible soundtrack. It would seem that some of these reviews are written by people who have only played the first level. This is not the case for the entire game, but instead a way to familiarize the player with controls (which are silky smooth), set the tone for the story (yes, there is a story here), and guide you through the inventory/leveling system. In short, the first two levels are (IMO) a tutorial for players. The game is far from perfect however, the loads times are way too long, the character creation is very limited, the character leveling is linear and doesn't really feel like it makes much difference in gun battles and overall the game just feels like its missing something. Its definitely not a Halo killer and honestly it will be forgotten when the next Call of Duty arrives. The game is not bad, its just not exceptional and it was grossly overrated. But its fun and I've enjoyed it, and I would recommend it. Just be aware THIS IS NOT AN MMO.

Again, no story to drive you to keep playing, just endless loot collecting (98% of which you simply throw away because it's inferior). The soundtrack is fairly weak and the visuals are good, but not blow your mind next gen great.
The multiplayer seems to be unable to consistently pair you with players of similar skill. Have one match even, next match you get creamed, creamed again, destroy everyone, destroy everyone, balanced, creamed, creamed, destroy. There seams to be no logic to how PvP stacks players and no logic to weapon balance either.
Then I see that I have logged over 300 hours and realize that something about this game keeps you there. Something about being a Guardian patrolling an unstable buffer zone between Earth and it's enemies keeps you coming back. The action and enemies are so well crafted that you just enjoy shooting the same thing over and over. You enjoy running around the same maps over and over, kicking ass. Even writing this it looks insane to think that I just kept playing. I believe I have finally broken free from this madness, but for my dollars to hours ratio on this one, I have to give it at least an 8.

A great, smooth shooter with endless storyless hours of gameplay. Addictive personalities beware, this game will own you.

I never really looked into the game before release, so I was not marketed too as much and do not think I was promised some of the crazy stuff people were hoping for.

The big issue with the lack of large features is probably tied into the fact that they wanted to put it on so many consoles. Especially in multiplayer, there is really no good excuse to have a 6v6 in 2014.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall Premise: Halo x Call of Duty x Mass Effect x MMO Status.

Graphics and Sound: The graphics look great and the soundtracks are not only truly interesting to listen to but also memorable as well. A true testament to the work of so many talented artists together as far as tracks go.

Playability and Entertainment: The controls handle excellently and makeup for some less than savory moments during the game. The story is pretty basic but nonetheless an entertaining adventure, and the same can be said about the game as a whole. It merges most of the right elements between MMO and shooter and RPG genres.

    Replay Value: High.

I can't say this is a perfect game. I have to say it does not live up to the hype in the way I imagined. I imagined an extremely deep and developed storyline with endless varieties of guns/armor/abilities. The beginnings of what I thought would be present are there, but it is not complete - there is a successful platform to build.

    Pros:
    - Controls, if you like FPS' this game is so smooth it has me drooling every time I pull the trigger.
    - Graphics, great views that make you stop to look and take it all in
    - A great menu system, this game makes it easy to play with friends and navigate the entirety of the game.
    - Multiplayer, even with a ton of abilities and skills, Bungie found a way to make it work.
    - Loot that is rare and powerful, it gives MMO players great rewards for their efforts.
    - The expansiveness of the universe, there are so many places to go and things to do.

    Cons
    - Depth. Currently, this single word is the one that keeps this game from being a 9 or 10.
*We have come to expect more as far as storytelling/character development goes from Bungie.
*There could be a bigger variety of weapon models, there are 1000s of varieties but they all use the same base model design. Armor is pretty good as it stands so far.

With all this being said, I also have a feeling that Bungie, being the sly dogs they are, have a couple things up their sleeve and this is only the beginning of things to come. My review will update accordingly.

Good aesthetics. And the fundamentals are all superb. Where this game lacks is in the fun department. Its just so sterile, and bland. I was literally bored to tears repeating the same activities over and over. The game should be titled Snooze fest 2014 or Halolands. Also the 30fps is absolute garbage for crucible.

    Will not continue to play.

I've had Destiny since launch and I can't stop playing it! It's very addicting in a sense that you will never truly finish it. Every day, there are new bounties to complete, some of which can be challenging. The game is much more fun to play with friends though, as it encourages teamwork. The atmosphere is very good as well, it has lots of lore but it doesn't overload you with it. OneI've had Destiny since launch and I can't stop playing it! One way that it falls short unfortunately is the PvP. There is a considerable amount of lag compensation going on that often ends in hit trades or being shot by someone not even facing you. Not only that, the use of special abilities in PvP is questionable. Sure it's satisfying to one-shot three people at once, but you always feel cheated on the receiving end, and I feel it takes away from the enjoyable aspects of it, they need to be nerfed for PvP or just removed from it entirely. Overall, I think Destiny deserves an 8/10. It would have been higher but the PvP needs tweaking. Expand

Destiny feels like the key elements of an FPS and an MMO gently resting shoulder to shoulder, instead of being fused together in a truly creative way. It plays and looks great, and offers many, many hours of entertainment to anyone okay with repeating the same tasks, but it isn’t exactly the game-changing science fiction epic we felt it was aspiring to.
