  1. Apart from that grumble [about the visuals], Schizoid is a welcome change of pace from the usual top-down shooter - not least because it's not a shooter, and instead turns co-op play from a fun optional extra into the core of the game.
  2. The co-op aspect really works well on this title, but as usual it falls due to the lack of people playing the game online. If you have friends who like to play then go for it.
  3. The single-player won't entertain for long, but the simple premise, clean visuals, and fiendish challenge deliver hours of multiplayer fun.
  4. Great for friends looking for a fun co-op distraction, but the repetitious play and unsatisfying solo play make it mostly undesireable for the rest.
  5. Schizoid is a nice game that excels in the cooperative mode. Unfortunately the game feels a bit unpolished in places. The A.I. has its problems and the audio-video combo sometimes fails to deliver. Nonetheless, this game is a nice addition to your arcade games collection.

Innovative co-op...shame about the rest. [Sept 2008, p.92]

Playing it singularly, the computer AI works well in controlling the other ship, but this is best played with two easily amused people. [Issue#34, p.117]

Schizoid is built on a decent concept that is unfortunately hampered by poor execution.

Fundamentally a little anaemic, lacking the kind of acute design which would either make its stages distinct or its basic operation continually engaging. [Sept 2008, p.94]

Easy for anyone to pickup and play, but very difficult to master. It's not as frustratingly unforgiving as other games like Geometry Wars. Lots of medals to earn and stages to explore, and many great little touches (like skipping golded levels, earning more lives every 10 levels, etc). A beefed-up version on DVD with a more intuitive and deep interface, better wingman AI, and customizable ships would have made for a perfect game in my book. A 4-player co-op mode would have been nice, but would have required a set of custom stages. With that said, it's worth the price of admission and has me looking forward to a sequel. Full Review »
