  1. Hexic 2’s addition of other pieces will make it a bit more playable, though Black Pearls are still going to be a challenge if you don’t already know how to get them. As well, the inclusion of Battle Mode adds a great platform for competitive gamers.

Hexic 2 deftly expands every concept that made its freebie predecessor the star of Live Arcade's launch. [Sept 2007, p.74]
  3. After playing Hexic 2, it’s really hard to go back and play Hexic HD. Hexic 2 is worth checking out especially if you have friends that are also competitive puzzle fanatics.

Hexic 2 is an excellent puzzle game on its own merits, but the original was perfection. For fans of the first game, multiplayer, new pieces, and new leaderboards to conquer should be well worth the 800 Marketplace points (around $10), but those who haven't given the series the time of day should explore the original first.
  5. Hexic 2's new multiplayer mode adds frenetic new fun to an already-sharp puzzle game.
  6. The changes are plentiful, but there's nothing ludicrously revolutionary here.
  7. Multiplayer is a nice addition, but it definitely takes some getting used to, and the updated graphics don't really do much for me other than give me a headache while trying to create clusters.
  8. 800 feels like a lot to pay for the sequel to a game that was free with your system, but hey, you can't complain that you aren't getting a lot of content for the cost. Just as long as you already loved the original game.
  9. If you liked the original, and poured endless hours into it, then you should definitely get this one: there are just about enough tweaks and changes to make it feel different enough to justify a purchase - especially the chance to play a mate online.

It's Hexic. But, y'know, again. And better. [Oct 2007, p.98]
  11. But at the end of the day, there's nothing on offer that actually changes the core Hexic experience, and as such it's difficult for us to recommend a purchase at its current price.

A decent puzzle game. I really don't fancy paying $10 for "decent," though. The original Hexic was also an average game, but it was free. It was free, and it was simplistic enough for anyone to grasp right away.
  13. Hexic 2 feels more like a bad knock-off than a sequel. The excitement of playing the uber-addictive puzzler in head-to-head battle mode never quite makes up for the poor, drab graphics and frustratingly hard-to-see gem selector.

Hexic 2 isn't quite as good as the original, but if you missed out on the first game, you can't go wrong with the sequel. [Nov 2007, p.96]

It's certainly not seven quid more entertaining than what came before. [Issue#25, p.119]

The new pieces definitely make it easier to get into and lear, but also add depth to the SP experience. The battle mode is a lot of fun once you learn how to play. The new color scheme is definitely a big change from Hexic HD, but Hexic HD didn't look like it belonged on the 360 anyway. Full Review »
