I was shocked to see a new Assassin's Creed game on the last gen consoles, the only AC I've been hearing about so far as been all about Unity. I thought maybe this was a B-licensed game like Liberation (XBL Arcade game/not full game). But no... it's full $60 dollar game? I thought maybe this was a B-licensed game like Liberation (XBL Arcade game/not full game). But no... it's full $60 dollar game? Sneaking in under the cover of Unity I didn't even hear about this one. And before I get into the review, I will say as a fan of pirates or any pirate related things I can't be held to my score considering I fangasim all over naval battles and pirate type things. But seeing how this game is Naval battle game, already done perfectly in AC 4 and set in New York... again already done in AC 3. I was ready to pull out the 0 stamp of shame for recycling.

But I stopped writing after the first hour. Because I had been awe-struck at the amazing game I was playing. Hands down the best story since Ezio. The Naval battles have been completely changed, there are more attacking options and enemy ships can now board you.

But best of all... you are the Templar. You are hunting Assassins, that at first made me hate the game being a fan of Assassin's Creed, we all hate Templars. But the story makes a compelling case as to why you'd be okay with killing them. Not only that... I haven't seen AI done this well in AC ever. Enemies have always been way too easy. And that's not me flexing my gaming skillz, no no... if anything I'm not good at games. I cried like a little *&$@! playing Dark Souls and Ninja Gaiden has caused some anger strokes. AC was just never that much of a challenge. It was a fun game but the fun came from exploring and unraveling the mystery.

Fighting Assassins is so fun, I wouldn't mind being a Templar just for the excitement of fighting a tough enemy. Everything you've had in the previous games, as an Assassin, your enemies will now be using on you. Hiding in bushes whistling at you, throwing smoke bombs, poison, air attacks and of course tough combat with parrying and speed.

The story has been the best since I first played AC and given all the fun I've had... Unity might have to wait till I'm done with this because this is far too much fun to put down.

While a good majority of gamers say that sequels are required to be better in every way (even if its not possible) than their predecessor, I don't entirely agree with that notion. Assassin's Creed Rogue may be using the same technology used for Black Flag, but it has significant improvements that makes it better than Black Flag. For Example, I was really annoyed in Black Flag that I could upgrade my ship from Captain's Quarters but have to drop anchor at the nearest City to go to a shop to buy weapons and outfits for myself. I didn't like the whole Naval Fleet part of the game that required me to be signed in to Xbox Live to play. Thankfully, its all available offline as well. Puckle Gun and focused ramming is a major improvement as far as Naval Gameplay is concerned. Whaling (although controversial) is made a bit challenging and you don't look like a totally different character while doing it. Taking fortresses doesn't look repetitive anymore. These are just some of the improvements.

While the gameplay has improved, so has the story. This is the first time after Ezio, I actually invested in a character in AC Titles. The story builds up Shay Cormac's fallout with the Assassin's brilliantly with a very impressive sequence. His motivations are also very clear unlike Edward's. Rogue tries to tie all the loose ends from the previous entries, but you can't keep everyone happy so without putting up any spoilers, I would say this was a very decent attempt at that.

I was sold on this game at the Main Menu. Mashup of many memorable soundtracks of the previous games mainly, Ezio's Family. That is a +1 for me.

I would rate this behind AC: Brotherhood and AC2 at 9

AC Rogue is probably the best ac game after AC 2. Its has all the things that made black flag a great game, plus the best storyline ever on the series. Yes, it does feel like it's just a black flag sequel, and that's because it is. If you are looking for something new, you might be desappointed, but if you are a true ac fan, this is a must buy!

One of the most refined Assassins Creed games I have played. Does not feel like a lesser game in any way and it is actually really satisfying to play it. It feels like when you get a bargain deal and realize that you got something that is actually much better than that other expensive thing you thought of buying. It is a win for sure.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When i SAW the first gameplay footages of this game, i lost my hope in a good game for the current gen of consoles in the AC franchise. But when i first PLAYED the game, i had a different feeling. There are ofcourse some problems and glitches with the parkour mechanics. I love the soundtrack which is just great, you can even hear some parts of "Ezio's family" and "Connor theme" in the menu music. The naval combat is much more improved since Black Flag. You have a sort of Gatling gun on your ship which looks and feels like the old swivel gun.
The graphics, level design and character design are great in addition to the X360 and PS3.
The best thing in the game is the story. We get a great protagonist, Shay Cormac, who starts as an assassin but because of a failed mission, he turns his back at the assassins because he "slaughtered" innocents. This mission was retrieving an artifact in Lisbon. It caused an earthquake and everyone who had no luck died. Shay doesn't immediately joined the templars but worked with some templars for a short time. We get some old characters such as Haytham Kenway, Achilles Davenport, Adéwalé,... and all of these characters have one of the best voice acting i have ever heard in gaming (i haven't played The Last of Us but that is one of those good games with voice acting). The ending is very good and if you would play the last 3 games in order (AC4 - ACR - AC3), you will get a great story and no mistakes made by the developers. This game has been made by Ubisoft Sofia which isn't that big as Ubi Montréal or Quebec. I have also played ACU and its great that you'll know that Shay is the killer of Arno his father. If you still have a X360 or a PS3, i highly recommend this game because it is worth playing.

The graphics are pushed to the absolute max on last gen consoles and the game looks great for the old hardware.

They new settings in the river valley and north Atlantic are a beautiful and welcome edition to the series while New York is far better presented and more fun to explore than it was in AC3.

The modern day story was less interesting but decent it operates similar to the AC4 modern story except this time you play a repair man and you come into contact with a high profile member of the Inner Sanctum of the Templar Order.

Overall a highly recommended this game to any fan of the series

To be honest it's so familiar that it is best described as AC 4.5. It's basically the same experience as Black Flag, only with tons of new additions. It almost comes off as a big expansion pack for that game. Even the modern day sections have you returning to Abstergo Entertainment, hacking computers in first-person.

While that would normally make me more critical of a game, Rogue is so darn enjoyable and excellent that I was able to overlook the familiarity and enjoy every aspect of it. To be honest it stands as one of my new favorite AC games.

The story is where it really takes off. Acting as a prequel to AC 3, we get to watch the fall of the Assassin's. We run into some familiar faces from past games and it really does a great job of adding some extra depth the AC 3's plot. That's not the real strength of the story though. What makes Rogue's story so awesome is that we finally get to see the Assassin/Templar conflict from the other side. That's right, we're playing as Templars this time. The game does an excellent job of portraying that the Assassin's might not be the saints previous games have made them out to be, and that the Templars aren't so evil. This new angle makes the series as a whole much more compelling. It also helps that main character Shay and the rest of the characters are so fantastic and well-written. Watching Shay struggle with having to go against the people he once called brothers, while choosing the path he feels is right is compelling and deep.

As for the modern day plot, it doesn't really do much to move things forward. It's cool to be back in Abstergo Entertainment, but all that's really happening is that you are trying to push Shay's plot further in the Animus. We get some more hacking bits, expanded bits of lore, and some cool new characters, but nothing really revolutionary is going on here. In the end though it didn't matter too much to me as I really enjoyed the gameplay parts of these sections.

As far as the gameplay goes in Rogue, it is largely the same as AC 4. That means we get more excellent sailing with the traditional AC gameplay. Rogue just expands upon it and adds in it's own unique ideas. You get new toys to play with, a healthy amount of new side objectives and distractions to undertake, as well as some new twists brought on by the fact that you are playing on the side of the Templars this time around. Switching sides puts a target on your back, and when wandering the world former assassin's will try and take you out. It's interesting to become the hunted for once and Rogue gives you plenty of means to protect yourself from another's hidden blade.

The series multiplayer mode which has made an appearance in every AC game since Brotherhood doesn't make a return here. That might disappoint those who were wishing for some extra added life upon completing everything to do on the single-player side of things, but I was surprised to find that it wasn't really missed.

So maybe it doesn't revolutionize the series in any way. However I'm willing to overlook that thanks to the strong storytelling and excellent gameplay. Some minor technical issues and light platforming bugs aside, this is an all around excellently made AC game. One that kept me hooked and highly entertained all the way through. It's got enough unique ideas to make it a little bit more than just AC 4.5 and after the dud that was Unity it was nice getting another polished and highly satisfying entry in the series, despite the familiarity.

AC 3 was just a major let down, as well. AC 4:BF was a great addition to the series as well, giving you the opportunity to sail the open seas and hear your mates sing shanties all the while you're at sea. But Rogue on the other hand is a completely different story and I love where it went. Giving you control of Shay Patrick Cormac and his dissension from the Assassin Brotherhood to become a Templar. The story provided was superbly told, a lot more so than Black Flag, In my honest opinion. I even went as far as looking how Unity started and to my surprise, I didn't even spoil it for myself!
Towards the end, I found that it was more of a Cross-over, leading right into Unity. Which I found very intriguing. One of the things that made me laugh, however, was one of the bugs that made the Assassin's stand up after dying...it was too unbearable to no laugh. But other than that, I didn't run into many bugs during my play through. I sold the game...and I'm regretting doing so, because it is my favorite AC game, with Black Flag in second place and Assassin's Creed 1, thanks to Altair; who I felt was the better Assassin out of Ezio and Conner. Rogue got very little attention, while Unity, a game that had many game-breaking bugs (I still haven't played it, but watched many videos), got more attention. Rogue was very underrated, and yet, it did a lot better and got better the reviews. (except IGN, I will never trust their reviews again, after Rogue. The buttheads didn't even play the game.) I applaud Ubisoft Sofia for making Assassin's Creed Rogue on the same engine as Assassin's Creed Black Flag. The game was just...breathtakingly amazing! Over all, I rate this game 10/10

Although I won't spoil much the story for Assassin's Creed Rogue is the most interesting the series has ever had. Seeing the world from the Templar's point of view was more exciting and definitely made me think about everything we do in the previous games. The Gameplay was damn solid too. It was all the fluidity of Black Flag but with so much more. In Black Flag there were limitations to where you could go and what you could do at certain times. After the tutorial in Rogue you can go anywhere and do anything at any time. It felt natural and made the gameplay much less dull and repetitive than say Revelations or 3. Although both were really good games they did get boring really fast. Because of that the truly open world feel of rogue is a marvel. I almost think that this game is the reason unity was as bad as it was. Ubisoft wanted to leave the current gen consoles with a bang even if it meant sacrificing the first title for the next generation. Expand

Our unnamed protagonist then comes across a hidden memory that then corrupts servers in Abstergo, leaving the building under lockdown. But, luckily that's just the icing on this sweet and bloody cake. We now go into why we come to the Assassin's Creed games in the first place; the assassins and templar feuds in these historically important timelines. We go back to Shay Cormac who is currently working for the Brotherhood of Assassins. His story starts with him learning from the best of best practicing stealth, hunting, and shooting skills. He then goes on a few missions but goes into another that leads to unfavorable results. He attempts to retrieve an important artifact but upon touching it, it triggers a giant Earthquake around the whole city killing innocent lives in the process. He then confronts his mentors and grand mentor about this horrible event and is unfortunate to realize that they still intend to find the remaining pieces. So Shay forms and executes a plan to prevent his brothers of the creed on finding the remaining pieces by stealing and escaping with the manuscript. Not without a little parting gift. That is if you count a bullet as a parting gift, This then brands Shay as a traitor to the Creed. The game then brings you up to when Shay gets rescued and repays his saviors' kindness by getting rid of a local gang that have been harming the area, which these gangs happen to be consisting of assassins, and then begin your new life as a Templar. The game heavily borrows from the elements of Naval battles, looting ships, and upgrading your own from Black Flag but then borrows the hunting of Norther colonial animals from the Assassin's Creed 3. Which makes sense since the game takes years prior to the revolutionary war and certain characters also make a return in this game but younger then when we last saw them. The game is so addicting with the possibilities different types of assassinations, the introduction to a air sniper dart that contains different effects and even grenades that can affect more than one enemy, unlike the sniper dart gun I mentioned just now. What also sets the game apart and personally makes it to me as the best is due to the inclusion of adding the new enemies which are your former brethren, the assassins. The things you do usually in the previous games, they do to. Air assassinations? Check. Hide in plain sight? Check. Hide in special areas to keep them conceived? Check. And when you get stabbed, it does a tremendous amount of damage. You also have to deal with those who love smoke bombs like you too. Of course, they are also difficult to catch due to the insane parkour skills like yours too. Plus, taking down gang leaders are the hardest for they may contain all of those qualities and then some. It isn't for those who just want to perform easy stealth kills. The good news is that your eagle vision acts as a compass to help point out where potential stalkers, the assassins that hide, lurk. Plus you also have creepy heavy breathing that gets louder as you get closer to a stalker. So thank god you can rely on those and counter would be stabbings. The game also adds more with very cold areas involving icebergs, freezing water that can actually make you freeze to death by taking bits of health away, and other goodies. You can also craft upgrades for yourself in terms of carrying more ammo, health upgrades, and more with the help of a combination of animal skins you have with you from kills or when you go to a general store. You can also craft and buy certain outfits or earn others from doing certain special missions. The game i fueled with content, great and memorable characters, and a new look into what the other side is like. It's like looking into the perspective of the Sith from Star Wars except Shay is intact while Vader is uh. Not so much in more ways than one. The game is definitely an underrated gem that actually makes you question why something like this, that is so polished, more historically accurate, and has great dialogue, got pushed to the 7th gen systems and a mess like Assassin's Creed Unity got the green light to be released. Expand

With all its ups and downs the assassin's creed series is a must-play. All games are enjoyable even though generic some times. A great inspiration for a history lover.

This single-player only game is a great game. Meet real-life characters, visit historical places, captain a ship and enter combat, transverse the world in interesting ways, and complete the story. It is a great game all around. Sometimes it feels slow, and sometimes it feels like the story comes to an unnatural halt to shoehorn in the mechanics in a confusing way, but overall, this gameThis single-player only game is a great game. Shaw, the main character, is super awesome, and his sneaking skills are well made. Story and mechanics are really well made, just the level design of a couple of parts holds it back. I totally recommend playing this. I hope the remaster is good.

Plus, the ending of the story directly ties in with the beginning of Assassin's Creed Unity.

An Assassin who turned Templar and through out the game it makes you question, are the Assassin's actually always right or do the Templar's make a good point on certain things.

This is one of the best title of this saga because this game take all gameplay mechanics of Assasin's Creed 3 and Black Flag and improve it.The fantastic thing about this game is that we can finally see the other side of the coin. This game is a must play for Assassin's Creed fan

Rogue paints the picture of an arbitrary war drawing arbitrary lines.
