This is the most creative game, Nintendo has ever released. Even though the Wii U shop is closed, you can download old courses from other players and build your own. Mario fans should definitely check this gem out. Overall rating: 9.2.

Конечно, в игре не хватает некоторых предметов, из-за чего порой трудно создать уникальный уровень, также мне не хватало мультиплеера), но игра даёт уникальный опыт, в котором вы можете быть творцом или играть в пользоватильские уровни. This is a good game, but what may upset you is that if you upload a course, after a few weeks it WILL be taken off. Another thing they don't tell you is that you can shake some things and they change to something else. And despite a few flaws, it still is fun to make your own Mario levels.

But at least all the items and tools available are fun and cool additions. Now you made your level and you wanna share to the world, I bet you think the online is good right? Wrong it’s terrible for some reason Nintendo forgot this game released in 2015 and use codes to search for levels wtf Little Big Planet 1 had a better search menu then this crap. But at least the levels are awesome, also this game has a neat mode where you play levels and have 100 lives, you also get amiibo costumes which are awesome but it’s so difficult to get sometimes. Super Mario Maker is a celebration of Mario games with 4 awesome games in one with an awesome Editing tool, sadly the online and the bad way of earning items and tools really make the game feel bad sometimes. The number of troll levels increases tenfold, Content Creators from YouTube get so much attention that it completely overshadows everyone else, Game Grumps makes over 100 episodes of their dumb show trying to beat levels and wastes even more of our time. After 3 months I was being sent troll messages and barely anyone was playing my levels, I was beginning to despise the game. Next thing we knew, Nintendo was just straight up deleting levels. My own levels were deleted permanently from the game's server, I was starting to get angry. Fast forward even more and Nintendo announces that Miiverse is being shut down; every post, every picture and every reaction to these levels were about to just disappear and never return. I have no idea if the messages were kept on a separate server, because by then I had completely given up on this "Game" that used to make me smile. By the end of this game's life, it is a 1/10.

Thankfully they turned everything around with the sequel.

Mario Maker is a fun time. Yes it may lack a lot of the mechanics that make the games so great but you'll find yourself building levels for months and months. It's community and creators pushed very "non Mario" levels foward that were crazy and unbearable. It had it's audience but I was not a part of it. Overall the game was super fun, not perfect but fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Super Mario Maker saved the WiiU. From the premade levels to the millions of player-made levels available online, this game will provide countless hours of amusement, no matter your skill level. Who knew a level editor could bring so many hours of fun to your life? On a lesser Nintendo system to boot?

    -------------
    Difficulty:

Not much to say about difficulty here. The game has its premade levels which only really require an average skill level to defeat. Online, levels range from Easy to Super Expert depending on Clears VS Total Plays. 1 Play is every time you start the level or die and restart. However, this system is nowhere near perfect. It often will put annoyingly difficult levels in the Normal or Expert category because only players with high skill levels really played them. Thus, you can, unfortunately, find Kaizo levels in Normal.

    ---------------
    Gameplay(Level Creator)

The "Maker" part of Mario Maker, this mode is (duh) where you create your Mario levels. There are tons of different obstacles, enemies, and platform types to unlock, as well as the 4 different themes based on older Mario games. There are endless options for level design, so unless you're TRYING to be a copycat, your level will be unique from all the rest out there. The editor itself is fluid and well-fabricated. It is easy to make your vision into reality, though there are limits on the amounts of things you can use. You will need to keep that in mind when creating a course.

    ----------------
    Gameplay(Course World)

This is where you will be spending the bulk of your time in this game. From here, there are three different options: 100 Mario Challenge, Creators, or levels.

Selecting Creators allows you to view the top creators based on star count. You can go from Weekly to All-Time leaderboards to find the most popular creators easily. The 'Following' tab is where you can see all the creators you followed, which is simply an easy way of keeping track of whose levels you'd like to remember.

Selecting Levels brings you to the big world of Mario Maker. From here, you can enter specific Course IDs, check out the Highlights of the day, New Arrivals, or Difficulty-based leaderboards. Remember, though: the system is not flawless, so a level in Normal could end up having a bunch of Midair shell jumps if enough Kaizo players play and beat it quickly. You can also view your bookmarks on the official website.

Finally, the YouTube phenomenon, 100 Mario Challenge. So many YouTubers played multiple attempts on the varying difficulties, most popularly Super Expert. These modes take random levels from the course database depending on the selected difficulty, gives you a set amount(8 for Easy, 16 for Normal and Expert, 6 for Super Expert) of them to complete with 100 lives. You can skip levels in the challenge, so unless you're doing the popular Super Expert No-Skip, you can feel free to skip any levels too difficult. This is one of the best parts of the game.

    --------------
    Mechanics

Again, pretty short section. Its the classic Mario mechanics of jumping, running, spin jumping in World and U themes and using power-ups if any are given. This is a platforming game. If you dislike the genre, maybe move on to the next game. Unless you like the ABSURD amount of automatic and music levels. These levels are generally well made, but there are simply too many of them overshadowing the fun platforming levels available. You really need to dig sometimes to find a good level.

This goes back to the difficulty system. Most of the time it is stable and consistent, but it isn't too long before you will get a curveball thrown at you.

    ----------
    Conclusion

Super Mario Maker is one of the best WiiU games to date, only under a select few that really shined despite the WiiU being worse than the Switch. For old and new fans alike, this game brings Mario players together to create and play one another's levels and challenge each other. If you are a Mario fan, this game is simply a must-have.

I wouldn't give too much credit though, there are some people who've single-handedly outdone this concept, such as Hello's Engine for GameMaker. And that's free!

But, since not everybody's knowledgeable about things like that, I guess this will have to settle for the sake of ease-of-access creativity sharing.

This game is really good to test your imagination when makning Mario levels. You can post your levels online, as well as trying other people's creations, which can give hours of challenges. amiibo functionality is great, as it unlocks costumes that you can still obtain in the 100-Mario challenge. You get tons of items and space to create the greatest level in Mario's history, and even choose the visual style (from the original Super Mario Bros, SMB 3, Super Mario World and New SMB U). All of this, and you get a game that is almost endless.

However, it's drawn back by huge flaws. Some levels online are just bland and uninspired. The 10 and 100 Mario challenges feel like filler content sometimes. Your experience depends on your levels's popularity. And the biggest flaw is that, if you have Parental Controls on your Wii U, you get the most mediocre Mario game of all time (Mario Maker without online deserves a 5/10, or even a 4/10, A.K.A., the 3DS version I did not even think about playing).

But Super Mario Maker will still give you a lot of fun most of the time. Thousands of online levels give the game HUGE replayability, which is something many Mario games lack. If you are a huge Mario fan, this is the game for you. It's a good game, and you can expect many great things about it. Just try to keep those expectations not too high, because if you expect a masterpiece from a level editor, it's quite likely that you'll feel dissappointed.

Super Mario Maker is the next big milestone in the 2D Mario series after New Super Mario Bros. Going into the game with relatively low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of fun I actually had with this title.

Mario Maker's gameplay is clearly divided into two big facets: playing levels and creating levels. I actually got into Mario Maker because I thought playing other people's levels was going to be the really entertaining. To be honest, I've never really cared about the level creation. Being able to create my own Mario levels is something that has never got me excited, despite being a fan of 2D Mario platformers. But surprisingly, making levels ended up being my favorite part of the experience by far.

One thing that should be noted if you’re planning to play Mario Maker is that this is a game that takes an active effort from your part to be truly enjoyable. This isn’t a game that you just put and enjoy. Well, you can do that if you only play levels, but to get the most out of Mario Maker it takes a bit of creativity and effort from the player. Initially I thought this was going to be a problem for me, believing that I would be staring at a blank level creator without any ideas on what to make at all. But fortunately, once you start messing around with the tools you’re given, fun ideas just emerge naturally. And once you get on a streak of creativity, that’s when Mario Maker realizes its full potential. That’s when the game becomes truly addicting.

The level editor is very accessible and enjoyable to use. Some things are missing, sure, like pools of water, certain enemies, power ups and such, but overall it feels complete. It has a pretty big repertoire of tools from previous Mario games for the player to use. I wish the enemy limit would be a bit higher, but it’s still alright. Mario Maker is very self aware that people are going to create stupid and nonsensical levels, and because of this the game offers a lot of tools for doing just that, crazy levels that are pure nonsense.

The presentation is very good. The developers clearly intended to make this game as user friendly as possible. The game is full of silly gags and secrets. Like once I got a notification with a random philosophical quote involving chain chomps. Funny things like that are all over the place.

The online functionalities are well optimized. Uploading your courses and seeing other people give you stars and comments is always satisfying. You can even see the parts of your levels where people die, and also the clear percentage. There are also official courses uploaded by Nintendo, which are pretty good.

But there’s a problem with Mario Maker’s online. One that anyone will notice very soon. The problem is that nobody in the world knows how to make good levels, or even decent ones. 90% of the levels are either a cakewalk made by a 5 year old, troll levels, levels that play themselves, levels full of dumb gimmicks, or in the opposite side, levels that are so hard that nobody but a hardcore Mario player can enjoy. There are good levels every now and then, and playing bad levels can be fun and even hilarious at first, but the novelty wears off quickly. There is always some fun to be had with 100 Mario challenges and such, and this is definitely a good option to have around if you feel like playing some Mario, but if you want to play good Mario levels that are actually well done, you better stick to New Super Mario Bros U.

So overall, this is a game that never caught my attention because I didn't care about making my own Mario levels, but once I started playing it and dedicating myself to creating levels, Mario Maker finally clicked on me. I could finally see what all the people saw back in 2014 when the game was announced. Mario Maker was truly a great way to celebrate the ex-plumber's 30th anniversary, and is a game I can totally recommend to anyone interested in 2D Mario, creating platformer levels, or game design in general.

I'd been using unofficial and poor-quality programs on the Internet allowing you to do just that for the longest time, so God am I happy this game exists. It's so much better than what you can illegally find on search engine. In Super Mario Maker, the possibilities are endless! (Well, maybe not literally, but to the point where new level concepts are being made all the time) Sharing your very own Mario levels all across the world is an easy and fun experience, and I often found my levels being played more than I expected due to the good balancing of accessibility. Creative courses are being made by several people every day, and there's always something new to try. There's a great interface and a substantial amount of tools for plenty of gimmicks. Even if you don't consider yourself a "creative" person; give this a shot! I can promise you you'll at least put hours into the levels created by others. Expand

Great game overall for those that are a fan of the side-scrolling Mario games and/or those who like to create things. Highly recommended.

    The good:
If you're a thoughtful, creative person, you have a fantastic medium to express yourself in this game. Creating levels is easy to do. Further, not only can you *create* the levels, you can have literally anybody in the world play the levels and critique and make comments on them. It feels great when you put your soul into creating a clever level and have someone give you positive feedback.

There are good tools available to help you fine-tune your levels to perfection, including being able to drop yourself into the level at any point and with any power-ups, and a gameplay-path tracer so you can master your obstacle/enemy positioning.

Most of the levels you play will be pretty decent levels that feel very "Mario." That's a very good thing. Occasionally, however, you'll come across incredible, fantastic levels that make you wish Nintendo would hire those people to design levels for the actual Mario games. And then there are other great levels that aren't very long, but rely on execution of a single difficult trick to complete, that will make you feel like you've accomplished something impossible when you finally get it.

The number of n00b-fodder levels is limited by a clever system. When you start the game, you can only upload 10 levels to share, but if your levels are acclaimed by people "starring" them, you will be allowed to upload more levels. This way, the number of levels designed by people who suck at level design are limited while people who make fantastic levels will be able to upload more, thus making better levels available to you.

Oh, and if you don't like a level, you can skip it.

    The not-so-good:
Play a "100 Mario Challenge" and I guarantee you that you'll come across at least one level that bothers you. While there are (rarely) some clever "auto-Mario" stages where you don't touch anything and you're bounced around on springs et al, I hate most of the "auto-Mario" style levels. There are also levels that are neither original nor very "Mario" feeling, or any good at all. And while the addition of special effects can marginally enhance a level, more often than not those special effects are abused to make super, super annoying levels.

Also in the negative column: It's not very fun to watch your kids make levels.

    All in all:
I recommend this game. If you don't have a Wii U, I'd recommend buying one just to get this game, and even though I don't rate it as highly as some other games, I don't usually recommend buying a Wii U just for most other games.

It's presented in the same way as Mario Paint from the SNES. It may be goofy, but it's fun. The same can be said for Super Mario Maker. The UI may a bit silly, but it's enjoyable. For example, you can play a loaded course on the title screen! You can place nearly all types of enemies and items in your levels, and choose from 4 different themes with those from the NES, SNES, and the Wii U. There are a lot of things you can do and you can even break the rules of Mario to make your level a ton of fun.

If you want to get the game just because you want to play other users' levels, I say go right ahead. There are literally tons of new levels uploaded every day, and from what I'm seeing, they're challenging, but fun. I don't want to deduct points from this game for levels made by players that are nearly impossible to beat because that's saying more about the user's style, not the game.

Ever since we were kids, we wanted to make our own Mario levels. Today, you can live that dream if you buy Mario Maker for the Nintendo Wii U.

The Star system doesn't feel reliable, since it doesn't seem to really reward players for making good levels that much and there is really no way to discourage players from making bad levels. The search feature is also largely incomplete, as there's no way to search for a level by name and it's extremely easy to not be able to find a level again.

The challenge modes are also largely disappointing. Since it's completely random which levels you get, you'll very often end up with levels that are either terribly designed or were specifically designed to steal lives from you, with no way to punish players for doing this. This is especially true in the higher difficulties, where it is completely possible to end up having half of your lives taken from you without being given much chance to avoid losing them.

Overall, I will name this as a good first effort, and simply hope they add more to any hypothetical second game.

1.There are way too many crappy levels that are either extremely difficult because of cheap invisible blocks,or dull and uncreative ones where you literally do nothing and watch Mario make it to the end of a level(this is a trend in the community). There are some truly creative and fun levels in there, but they gets overshadowed by the pile of bad ones.
2.You are way too limited at the beginning, where you can only use a certain amount of objects before a new shipment comes the next day.I'd rather just have all the materials right when I get the game instead f having to go through the process of resetting my Wii U timer. Not only that, you can only upload 10 levels at a time. The problem with this is there are WAY too many levels out there, and only 3 or 4 people are going to play your level per day.So you're forced to beg your friends to star your levels so they don't get kicked off the server in a month. You can eventually upload more levels with a certain amount of stars, but you'll probably need to beg your friends to do that.
Conclusion:Super Mario Maker is a brilliant concept that was executed fairly well. It's not Nintendo's fault the community makes such annoying levels.

Having an online server with infinite levels is great for the Wii U with a game you can play for as long as the servers are up. Sure there are troll levels which is very annoying but they are rare and you can find levels that may be even better then Nintendo designs themselves. The Maker tool gets updates every month or so and they are all free. Now there is the play side. There is 10 Mario Challenge which are simple levels using the Maker tool made by the game developers. Then there is 100 Mario challenge with 3 difficulties. I would play Normal usually because Easy is usually just spam levels and hard are a lot of instant-kill levels. Peoples levels can really shine here. Completing the 100 Mario Challenge gives you costumes each time you win the Challenge. Nintendo usually uploads levels that give you mystery mushroom costumes. This game has some of the best Amiibo compatibility on Wii U. If you have a collection you will not be disappointed. These characters are only in the original Mario style which is sad but I understand it would take a lot of work to implement them into all 4. There is also a fun fly-swatting mini game to have fun with. All-in-All this one of the best Wii U games we have and is definitely a system seller and I cannot recommend it enough. Expand

For free! There are a few additions that aren't available online, such as certain enemies and objects being redrawn for the different games, but there is an appalling lack of Yoshi in any mode. There hasn't been much substantial content added since the game's release either, unlike Splatoon, which has had many more additional game modes, maps, weapons, equipment, and a new level cap, in addition to revamped Ranked gameplay. There's just not much "fun" to be had in creating levels, aside from the first few minutes of making a field of clown car-riding giant Bowsers, or something silly like that.
On the other side of the coin, playing other people's levels is hit or miss. The levels I enjoyed the most were the musical levels, which played a tune as you held left and ran. These were also my favorite levels in the online version as well, so it was nice to see them return. But aside from that, the tool is too limited to make stages that are actually reminiscent of the official games. The Super Mario World mode is missing the slanted platforms vibe, as well as much of the charm of the world map that made the game most fun to begin with. As such, none of the levels created in Super Mario Maker really 'feel' like an official level made by the devs. They all feel... off. It's clear to see that they are user-created, and as such, are lacking the polish of the official levels.

Despite the "limitless potential" of "infinite stages" from other users; Mario Maker is sadly far too limited to truly make something of value, and its price most certainly does not reflect the amount of content contained therein.

It tries to create something interesting to players by letting its community create hundreds of levels every day, which sounds really interesting, however this is also its weakness. For example, the game gives you the option to play what it calls "Courses" which is divided into 5 categories. One is exclusively used for official levels made by Nintendo itself and people from magazines such as Famitsu and etc. They tend to be quite easy and straighfoward, and at the end of the level you can earn a Mystery Mushroom, which can make Mario transform into a different character (Link, Wario, even Pokémons). You can use these mushrooms to make your levels more interesting. You can also choose to play 4 different type of courses: Easy Course, Normal, Expert and the new Super Expert courses. All this courses were made by the community, not Nintendo. And here's the main core of the game and that's when the whole thing starts to fall apart. You may find yourself playing a lot of interesting levels made by people. Levels that are challenging, engaging and sometimes punishing but not unfair. This is Super Mario Maker at its strongest. You really feel entertained playing this levels and you want to play more of those...But, this is not frequent, actually you'll spend more time playing short, lazy and confusing levels that probably will make you want to throw your controller through the window. Unfortunately most levels are horribly made. They tend to drive you to door traps, unfair deaths and sometimes ask you to use a move so complex or hard to pull that only expert players can do, and you have no choice but to skip (Thank God for this option) these levels and try another one. Sometimes they are too easy to the point of being ridiculous. You pick up a invencibility star and run through dozens of enemies until you hit the final flag pole. You can see how lazy the person is to create something so dull and boring like that. And since the game picks random levels for you to play, there's no way to avoid these kind of unfair or boring levels. But you'll notice this the first half hour that you'll spend playing this game because, unfortunately, there are more boring levels than good ones in this game.

Of course SMM is also about creating. And this is the most interesting part of the game. The tools that they provide you to create the levels are awesome. I never thought i'd like to use them so much. You can easily spend 2-3 hours elaborating a level and you can actually have fun creating them and then testing them. It's intuitive, easy to learn and really, you can do anything you want, basically. But be aware, after you upload the level don't expect to have many people playing it. I did 5 or 6 levels and each one had 3 or 4 people playing it. One week later, nothing has changed. Which means that soon my levels will be deleted and forgotten whereas people who made horrible levels managed to get at least 5 stars (the "Like" from SMM) or even more, it's frustrating. When you upload a level, the servers tries to put your level into one of the 4 types of courses, but the thing is, you have thousands of levels being made everyday, so sometimes your level will be forgotten and no one will be able to play, unless you have friends to help you out or if you beg on the internet asking anyone to play your level and to give you a star, otherwise you'll lose your levels really soon because Nintendo tends to delete levels that no one plays or ones that don't have many stars.
All in all, Super Mario Maker tries to compete against the likes of LittleBigPlanet or even Project Spark. It succeeds? No. Because this game it's limited compared to the other two where you can create dozens of different things using a more flexible tool to create levels. It is entertaining? Yes, if you know the right codes to play the right levels, but if you try to play a whole course, especially Expert or Normal, you'll find a lot of frustrating and horribly made levels that only have the purpose to troll you as much as possible. And to me, challenging is different than trolling. When i play this game i want to play challenging levels that will make me a better player and feel accomplished not frustrated because of invisible blocks or death doors. And the creating tool is awesome, but you'll have to beg for people to play your levels, otherwise it will be deleted before you know it. At the end of the day i can't really recommend this game at all, apart from the creation tool where you'll have fun creating levels on you own, but that's it. Other than that you'll only find a half game here, an overpriced one. SMM is only as good as its players, and maybe that's why this game is so frustrating and boring, because many people don't know the meaning of having fun, just the meaning of trolling. So if the people who play this game are trolls, then of course the game will be nothing less. Super Mario Maker is the @TayandYou of the Wii U.

A lot of this changes based on the game style you choose, Original, Mario 3, World, Wii U. Wish it would mishmash more of these but it is a wonderful sandbox Mario making game. I highly recommend this game I suggest if you own a WiiU you go out and buy it.

    Pros:
    -limitless possibliities for creating
-if you are not creative, you can still enjoy playing other's levels
    -you can skip bad levels
    -power up costumes are great

    Cons:
-many levels are automatic (fixed by being able to filter levels on the companion site)
-some levels are not very good (you can skip them)

I have mixed feelings about this game. On one hand it is a nice way to create levels and share them with people. On the other hand it makes me want to smash my gamepad.

I like how you can create Mario levels with relative ease in this game. Of course if you want your levels to actually be how you want them to you've entered the real challenge in this game. The course creator is way too basic. I cant even count how many times I've had a great level idea only to find out it doesn't work. Not because there would be no way to do it but because I have no advanced options. I guess they have to make it easy to learn for all the ten year olds that play this game but it really makes me mad.

Another thing I dislike about this game is how you can only upload so many levels. I understand why they limited it but for people like me who have no way of getting the word out and actually make decent levels it feels like I'm not being sold the full game. Unfortunately if you take away the limit you're left with even more terrible levels. You really have no way of winning. Maybe there should be a quality check where people can rate the levels but even that could be manipulated.

This brings me to my next complaint. The terrible levels. So not only is the making part frustrating but the playing may be even worse. There are so many people who put no effort into their levels. They just get a bunch of enemies or just add a dev skip so they don't actually have to beat their level. I've played so many bad levels that I cant even think of anything clever to say about it.

In conclusion this game is flawed. Very flawed. The fact that it is so expensive is even worse. But is it the worst game? No. Although it's definitely not one of the best things to ever come from Nintendo. Lets just hope that if they make a sequel they fix this.

Super mario maker is a deep game, with millions of levels to play, different graphics, incredible editor and many fun little things that make this game a beast of a game and something you just NEED to have in your wii u, it's a "must own".

STORY:......I mean...it's an level editor, how is there going to be a story?. Unless you count the 100 mario challenge wich is basicly: Save princess...THE END

PRESENTATION: This game has different types of graphics when you play depending on what style of mario you want to build, there's the original 1985 Super Mario Bros, the 1989 Super Mario Bros 3, the 1991 Super Mario World and the 2012 New Super Mario Bros U. Each of these have their unique style and look, so i can't really describe them, but what i can describe is the interface, which is very intuitive and easy to use, ANYONE can play this game and feel comfortable using the creation tools and listening to all the classic mario themes with 1080p and 60fps on their TV. This presentation is fantastic and i can't imagine a way that they could make it better.

GAMEPLAY: All the mario styles have different attributes to differentiate each one from the others, mario 1 has the slipperiest controls, mario 3 has the p meter and you can grab shells, mario world has yoshi, the spin jump and you can throw shells upwards and new super mario has that little spin to get extra air time, wall jump, the triple jump and the ground pound.

AH! but that's not all!, i mentioned yoshi before however that's exclusive to super mario world and new super mario, so what takes the place of yoshi in mario 3?, the boot! and that's pretty much a trend in this game, many items are exclusive to certain mario styles, so you are the one to decide when you want to create your mario level.

Speaking of the items, uuuff. I can make an entire review only on the items, because there's a lot of them in this game and some of them have never appeared in another mario game which makes them very unique, we have lots of powerups, enemies, blocks, sound effects (that you can use to make certain enemies and places say whatever you want) and many other things that make this level editor one of the best i have ever seen in my life, however it's still losing some things from the 4 games like the slopes, some powerups, enemies, etc, but with each update they add more and more content to the game so i expect this things to be in the game eventually.

There's a number of modes to try out in this game. First is the creator mode, where you obviously, create levels, The 100 mario challenge where you choose a difficulty and run through some randomly pick levels from the community with 100 lives and depending on the difficulty, the challenge can range from easy, to normal, to fair-hard, to ******** hard, to some of the most insane levels that only the most perverse, crazy and cruel human beings could ever create!. Another mode is the "official level mode", where you play through the levels that the official nintendo employees create, it's pretty cool. Another mode is the "explore levels" one...self explanatory. Similar to the 100 mario challenge we have the 10 mario challenge, where you (again) play through randomly pick levels of the community only this time you don't choose a difficulty and you only get 10 lives. Finally we have the creators mode, where you see the profiles of the best creators and see their level masterpieces that make you say: "**** it, i give up on life, i will never create something better than this".

By completing some of this modes you get skins of different characters like samus, link, lucas, fox, donkey kong, luigi, etc, to make the original 1985 mario look like one of this characters via a special mystery mushroom, it's pretty cool.

In conclusion with great level editor possibilities, great classic music, very well done graphics for each style, great modes and overall being pretty much an unlimited game, Super Mario Maker gets a 10/10.

Super Mario Maker is a fun tool for making your own Super Mario levels and sharing them with others. Unfortunately, it lacks a bit in content and this can sometimes limit your creativity. Despite these complaints, Super Mario Maker has a great interface, and if there were any better console to make your own platforming levels on than the Wii U, then please tell me because the way the game is executed works very well. Not to mention the amount of easter eggs, most of which reference Mario Paint.

Super Mario Maker marks 30 years since the iconic plumber and his green-with-envy brother made their debut on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was blocky, straightforward and absolutely spectacular.

The game hasn’t aged a bit. It’s been spiced and spruced and given plenty of coats of paint, but Mario is still Mario, and Super Mario Maker, a new title for the Nintendo Wii U, lets you play God with the Mushroom Kingdom.

The game, billed as a do-it-yourself level creator, lets players choose between four distinct aesthetics: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U. Players can choose to “make” or “play” on the game’s menu. While making levels, each world has its own music and items, and every bit of the original game is intact, physics and all.

Equipped with the Wii U GamePad, players use the touchscreen to build their levels. But in all honesty, some of us aren’t so good at making things. But that’s where the real meat of Super Mario Maker comes in: sharing.

Players can share their levels to “Course World” or download levels made by gamers from around the globe. Give the game a few months and if you’ve got an idea for a level, chances are someone will have made it by then.

Then there’s the “play” mode. This includes “10-Mario Challenge,” in which 10 levels are randomly selected for the player to traverse. In “Course World” this challenge gets amped up a bit to “100-Mario Challenge” and the game gives you 100 lives to make it through 10 randomly selected user-created levels. That means the level could be super-simple or gruelingly difficult. Roll the dice and take a chance.

The game also supports Nintendo’s toys-to-life figurines, Amiibo, and they have an unbelievably addictive and wallet-damaging use. Just tap an Amiibo character to the base of the Wii U GamePad and the player can step into the shoes of 100 different icons like Link from The Legend of Zelda, Samus Aran from Metroid and even some more obscure ones like Chibi-Robo and the creepy owl from Animal Crossing.

Amiibo usually cost $10 to $12, but the characters are completely unlockable in-game by playing the “100-Mario Challenge” mode. Relax, parents: It may be one less thing you’ll need to spend money on.
Rest assured, Super Mario Maker is a delight. It’s a player-created wonderland packed full of content and a blast to play.

One can only wonder what Nintendo has planned for future Mario anniversaries.

The gamepad works perfectly with the concept, and the touch screen menu controls feel quick and efficient. Making great Mario levels isn't limited by mastery of the elements, its limited be creativity. Which makes it such a disappointment that 90% of levels are utter garbage pumped out with no thought or neatness whatsoever. What makes it even worse is that, instead of giving a fair critique system to give people constructive criticism, downvote weakly designed levels and promote creative ones, Nintendo decided to make it an "everyone wins" kiddy game. You can't comment on a level without using the sole upvote button, making criticism and by extension improvement impossible. This baffling decision is by far the game's worst feature. There are many problems with the community as well. Traditional and creative Mario levels are thrown aside so that uncreative auto and troll levels can be thrown to the top of the standings, in other words cheap gimmicks are favored over actually good mario levels and creativity. I made a single troll level that took 20 minutes, and in 2 days it accumulated more likes and stars than my other 4 actual levels I spent days on combined. Which leads me to the star feature. Its incredibly obvious the "star" is to like levels, to give people a reward for working hard, but instead its treated as a "favorite" button, even though it isn't. People are absurdly stingy with stars, and a level with 100,000 plays can have less than 1,000 stars. However, there are many fantastic levels out there, and almost enough to combat the terrible ones. Kaizo in particular are extremely fun and challenging, and provide a constant distraction. Back to the level designer, a surprising number of notable Mario features are included, but 3 times as many are left out for absolutely no reason whatsoever, which greatly takes away from the substance of the game. In conclusion, Mario Maker is a deeply flawed game, which is only saved from a 7 by its ingenuity and creativity. Expand

I played a lot Disney Infinity Toybox because there you buy what you need by collecting money in the game. That's fair. They could do that if you play users' levels, you get coins and then you can buy tools to unlock. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Super Mario Maker is a what people would refer to as a "Fan Service" game, or a "Sellout" because the main theme of the game is to, "Let the customer do the work". However, Super Mario Maker is a game that strives to let the user let its creativity run wild. While the system of unlocking more creation tools can seem irritating to the average audience, but it does let the player experiment with the tools they until they have mastered those items. When new items are unlocked the player would have fully utilized the previous unlockables an will be able to experiment with the new tools. The process of uploading levels is well thought out and prevents the player from uploading, "Impossible" levels. The mystery mushroom costumes can be unlocked through Amiibos, but can be unlocked without them so it doesn't force the player to buy Downloadble content (DLC) While the process of finding levels suited for the player's tastes and skill level may be difficult, this can possibly be solved with the, '100 Mario Challenge' as they have three skill choices. However, the game may not seem like much to a person who wants to instantly create a, "Masterpiece" level, but the player's patience is definitely rewarded. However, the player can be entertained with the endless flow of user-created levels. The point is, the game may seem pricey for $60, it really depends on the player's, "creativity" and "Patience", but players can still find fun elsewhere in the game. My final rating is 8.5 Expand
