Trusting other players for quality levels is risky business, but making your own is creative heaven.

For all its drawbacks in terms of relying on the gamer to actually put in the effort to enjoy the experience, Super Mario Maker is a fresh approach to the old 'RPG Maker' mould, taking the key elements that any 'build-a-game' title requires and then making sure that there are sufficient in-built goodies to give those less inclined to while away the hours making new content a sense of value for money.

If you accept its purposeful limitations this is one of the few successful attempts to ensure creating your own games is as much fun as playing them.

Super Mario Maker is primarily an engine for circulating bad ideas and broken gimmicks as if there weren’t already an overabundance of them.

If you have any fond memories of 2D Mario games, you owe it to yourself to examine their construction first-hand; and you'll have a great time doing so, too. Buy it.

As both a user experience and dream fulfillment, Super Mario Maker is far from perfect, but it is still hugely charming and packs a copious helping of fan service for longtime Mario aficionados. Its greatest accomplishment, though, is showing how such a simple collection of toys can be used in so many different ways.

Super Mario Maker cant really be considered a game but more Nintendo trying to squeeze a couple more pounds from the big plumber. ThisSuper Mario Maker cant really be considered a game but more Nintendo trying to squeeze a couple more pounds from the big plumber. This laziness shows in lack of lack of freedom and gets boring fast. the community don't help either as most levels are extremely difficult and consist of hundreds of enemies and a secret hidden block so the creator can publish it. Or you stand still and watch Mario bounce from spring to spring until he reaches the flag. If you think that sounds fun be my guest pick it up but prepare to play most of the game with out touching the game pad Full Review »

In short. Simply an amazing idea and the game that got me to finally buy a Wii U with some games I missed until now.

I would give this a 10 out of 10 if the game weren't missing some key components, like the ability to place slopes, water or checkpoints in levels. Combine this with the fact that you can't put searchable keywords in your level, or the fact that you cannot search by name, only by ID. Also levels can only be 2 screens in height which limits you from creating falling levels.

The problems above can be fixed with patches or paid DLC though, but upon the time of writing, that's not the case.

Overall though this is an incredible fun experience both to play or create in and that has player created content that makes it last for a long long time to come.

Mario lovers, look no further. This is a must-buy that will keep you occupied with 2d mario games for the foreseeable future.
