After all this talk about the controls, I was expecting something totally different - it feels smooth and intuitive - another extremely fun and unique experience from Nintendo! Keep the great ideas coming! Mission Accomplished! 10/10

Very underrated game. The controls work perfectly once you get used to them. It's not as easy as pick up and play; this is a game that requires that player to practice a bit before understanding the controls. I think too many people expect instant gratification, hence the low review scores. If you like Star Fox and you're willing to understand complex controls, try this game.

An amazing amalgamation of the best of Star Fox on SNES and N64. The controls take about 30 mins to get accustomed to. It is bizarre to be that reviewers have slammed this game to a score BELOW STAR FOX ADVENTURES for such a trivial issue.

Ok. I'm legitimately pissed about how people are crapping on this game. Professional gaming sites are being children. Yes, I played the original n64 starfox and enjoyed it. But you know what, I have my nostalgia glasses off and this game is fantastic in gameplay and design. Nintendo likes to push the envelope on innovation and they don't dissapoint with this title. I got used to the controls within 20 minutes. Was there a steep learning curve? Yes. Are childish journalists who don't have any skill at videogames ruining the game for other people that put too much emphasis on reviews? Yes.

This is some of the most fun Ive had with my wii U since purchase and is the exact reason this system was designed.

It disgusts me that sites (Im looking at you polygon) insert their garbage hatred towards this game just because they are being whiney babies that cant look outside the box. I would hate to see this game fail. Its a blast to play and deserves every bit of success. Should not be hampered by complete BS from unprofessional children.

I would give this game a 9/.10. GREAT CONTROLS. Fun arcade style graphics, and fun throwback style to a time when things were simpler and less about holding your hands, and about shooting for a high score. Not everyone has 60 hours to throw into a game experience. I would rather spend 4-8 solid hours playing a great game with great replay value than playing a repetitive POS game that gets squirted out annually from most other companies. Its a real shame...

Ive said my two cents. I how people give this blast of a game a real shot.

What he does with SFZ is takes a chance, to make the game more innovative and challenging to the typical "Yawn Fest" twin stick shooting scheme, where he has the balls to be different, and, in the end, take a chance and scores big.

Once you "get" the controls, you will smile at the pure genius of it. Then realize, the strong hate and prejudice by"gaming journalists" from Forbes and Polygon, who are being whiney because they didnt get their way with hand-held twin stick controls they find easy to play. Shame shame shame on media like that not even giving the game a chance.

SFZ is a wonderful gaming experience that I am having so much damn fun with. Easily worth the price, especially when it's packed with Star Fox Guard that has at least a $20 value to it (gaming wise)

I'd give this game something over 8.0 that rounds up to a 9, but I need to compensate for the people who gave it 0. This game is not fundamentally broken in every way nor does it lack anything remotely positive. It is not a 0/10, and if you think it is, you are objectively wrong.

I've only played 2 missions so far, but I can already tell I'm gonna love it. I instantly fell into the controls, which are really, really simple (heard horror stories from people who, apparently, suck at games) and it really adds to the formula in a fun way. It's a genuinely fun Nintendo game, which is what I expected it to be.

hearing all the crap people were saying about this, i was afraid. after all, the currency conversion makes all full-price nintendo releases crazy expensive nowadays in brazil. so i waited until there was a good enough deal that it was safe to take a gamble -- i had, after all, bought my wii u planning to play zelda games, mario galaxy games, and also star fox.

so, to answer the big, scary question you must be asking yourself if 50 dollars isn't money you don't mind wasting: is miyamoto completely out of his mind? i mean, the guy who created zelda, dk, mario, pikmin, star fox, etc. -- could he have actually gotten involved with a game and released it if the game had no redeeming qualities? is nintendo in this bizarre position of having an old, senile legend with too much power just burning money?

lol, no. are the controls difficult? i guess. but hear me out.

if you're interested at all in this game, there is only one reason: you want to shoot lasers in space and feel an exhilarating rush, like being inside a star wars scene, to use a useful cliché.

to me this game is very much exhilarating in that way. i suppose i'm not the most competent gamer, so pretty early in the game i saw myself dying and having to repeat some missions until i got them right. and indeed the controls were part of the challenge. but i couldn't wait to redo those missions, and let me tell you, i'm not really into getting my ass handed to me and retrying something a thousand times -- for instance, i'm pretty sure i'll never beat a mega man game. but this game is exhilarating. it's beautiful, it's a spectacle. it looks exactly as it should look. to agree with a good point made by kyle bosman, the lines they gave the female fox are, ugh, awful, but here's the thing: unlike a lot of games these days, this game is a game. as in, it has gameplay, awesome gameplay. miyamoto is the gameplay king. just think of how many of his games are still being played by obsessed fans 30 years later. so sf0 is exhilarating.

and, seriously, how could it not be? that's really the only reason a game like this exists -- to blow you away with frantic action. and the action is there, and it's fun to repeat a mission to finally get inside the frigging enemy shield in the three seconds you have available -- whew! this game is made by nintendo and platinum games -- as in, bayonetta. so, really, shame on me for doubting them. and shame on all critics who are whiny **** for not giving the controls a chance.

you'd think a critic would be required to be a more competent gamer than me, but go figure.

This is a great game. The controls, while not like the previous games, are responsive and allows you to be more 'in control'. The motion controls while criticized, do not actually take that long to get used to. The level design is excellent, while short, it offers much to go back to and play again.

For those that are all butthurt that the controls aren't exactly the same as Starfox 64...just go play Sin and Punishment Star Successor. I mean, Nintendo doesn't want to make the exact same game over and over again, and there's already plenty of clones, Star Successor probably being one of the better, if not the best one.
But for those of you that are fans of Starfox, like proper fans, you know, like, all the gold medals on expert in 64 and 100% on every route in the first game, you'll probably love this game because you're probably not som p.o.s millennial who needs their games to cuddle them and hold their hand every step of the way. Seriously this is the most fun I've had with a triple A release in a long time, probably since Bayonetta 2.

I have several issues with this game, but the length of a single playthrough is not one of them, the price is not one of them, and the controls are not one of them. I would have liked to see a multiplayer mode, a better rewards system, and the classic style of map progression. These issues would have me give the game an 8, but thanks to the childish behavior of other reviews from short sighted millennials that have never played a Starfox game before, I feel it is okay to bump the score up in response to their petty, lazy scorings of 0/10, purely because I dont want to see celebrations of golden age design like Star Fox Zero fail.

We had no idea that the content of that box was the beginning of a gaming career that would last to this very day!
We instantly fell in love with Star Fox 64 and would play this game every day after school until we knew all the missions, all the sounds and every line of audio by heart.
Since we became huge Nintendo fans that fateful day of 97, we of course bought the Game-Cube when it came out five years later. Sadly the two Star Fox games released for the Game-Cube where a little disappointing, to say the least, so the whole Star Fox franchise went dark for us. Then in 2011 the game re-released for the 3DS, which reinstated a wish for a new good Star Fox title in our minds.
Now in 2016 this wish was finally fulfilled. We were really excited when we first heard that there was going to be a new SF game, but we were also fearing that it would be just another bad reboot or another horrible sequel. Thankfully we were dead wrong! Star Fox Zero is just amazing! I immediately felt like when I was just a kid, back in 97: having to figure out how to go to all planets and systems, finding out how to kill the final boss...just awesome! Just for making me relive this feeling the game earns a 10/10 rating. There us however on thing that is bad, if not annoying. I'm of course talking about the controls. The motion-controls make the game unnecessary hard and it's a shame you cant invert horizontal-gyro-controls. I hope that Nintendo will make this option possible in a future patch. Aside from that Star Fox Zero really is a great game for the Wii U and I highly recommend this game to all the Nintendo and Star Fox fans out there.

Star Fox Zero is a wonderful re-imagining of one of the most beloved games in the series, blending elements from its early history in a tasteful manner. The meatier story mode leaves you with a better sense of fulfillment over its predecessors, and while there isn’t an online leaderboard to compare best times or scores, there are other extras to keep you playing. Adapting to the new controls might take more patience than some players are willing to give, but those who stick it out are rewarded with a higher-degree of precision than previously possible. It’s by no means perfect, but it’s safe to say Miyamoto’s latest experiment is a success.
