Everyone knows Minecraft is a good game on ANY platform - simply because the game is superb! The best thing about any Minecraft game is the multiplayer aspect where multiple kids/adults can together build stuff. However, the Wii U version has one MAJOR flaw: it lacks controller options. Yes, I've got a Wii U Gamepad, a Wii U Pro Controller and 4 WiiMote and Nunchuks (2 being legacy Wii ones). The stupid decision to only support the Gamepad and Pro Controller limits our multiplayer to TWO players. That sucks. And no, I wouldn't buy another 2 Wii U Pro Controllers just for ONE game, since I've already bought 2x PC versions, 1x mobile version of the game! What was Mojang thinking? Anyway, very disappointed. I have already reviewed the Original PC version of Minecraft, so check out that review. In this review, I'll be looking at how well Minecraft stacks up on the Wii U. Happy it's here but what should obviously have been the definitive version disappoints.

Why no motion control support (wiimote + nunchuck) and inventory on the gamepad? ARGH!

It really isn't the best option.
The game itself is the same as Minecraft, with a few things left out from the PC edition, such as red deserts, ocean monuments, etc. It even plays very similar to the Playstation/Xbox versions, with a similar crafting system. If you already own Minecraft for the PC, there really is no reason to buy this, unless you don't have a computer, Playstation or

    Minecraft: Wii U Edition gets a 7/10.

Sadly it looks and plays like a last gen version of Minecraft due to the Wii U's lack of good processing power. Basically due to the Wii U's poor design and lack of an achievement/trophy system makes this the poorest console Minecraft version to date. Nonetheless, it still plays good and has online play and voice chat, off-TV play, and you get to track your play time, so at least it's not a total bomb. Expand

This game is not as good as the pc but it's aright. It doesn't control well and I expect way more from the wii u. This game is just not so enjoyable to be honest.

I have no idea what to do in this "game" and find the graphics very dull. The digging gets tired very quickly. The enemies always kill you, especially the ones with the bow and arrows and you can't see where they are because the graphics are SO bad. In the mode where you get to play with all the items it's overwhelming and when you turn enemies off it's boring. Minecraft offers good multiplayer and fun singleplayer BUT in the begining only the game becomes bland and boring after awhile and that's why minecraft only gets a 6/10.

I want to like this game, I really do, but let's face it; it's just not quite as good as the other versions.
The concept of the overall game; great. I love it. Almost everything about it. But for this particular version everything is kind of, well, wacky. Could be a lot better. The controls are funny, the world is limited, and there's nothing interesting involving the GamePad. Only get

Minecraft! Man, this game is....just...amazing! Minecraft started out on pc. Then, it started to move on to consoles. GREAT! Now, there's a Wii U version. umm......ok I guess. It's just Minecraft on the Wii U. It's nothing really special. If you played it on other platforms, then you should know what to expect. It's the same game, only on the Wii U

Minecraft may be a game that is heavily acclaimed by a lot of people all over the world, and honestly, I can easily see why, although I'm not exactly a fan of it. I used to play it on my PC for some years, until one day I got bored of it, and left it. When the game was ported to the Wii U, I decided to give it another chance. By this rating of 6/10, I think it's obvious that I didn't like it much. Minecraft: Wii U edition keeps the essence that made Minecraft great, but in a quite weaker form. Even though it can get interesting and intense at times, the control scheme is very weird and difficult, making fighting a tricky experience. The world is also just too small (862x862). It may be understandable with the Wii U's power, but the same console was able to run Xenoblade Chronicles X, a game that has one of the biggest overworlds in videogame history, which substracts points from Minecraft. And it's just dumb to require an HD resolution to play in Co-op. However, the game is fun like 75% of the time, and it keeps the core essence of Minecraft, which makes me unable to give it a lower score that it does not deserve. Expand

Minecraft: Wii U Edition is, well, Minecraft. But. It doesn't support old Wii controllers and the Game Pad -integration could be better, like own screen for a second player and a touchscreen inventory. [Feb 2016]

With the added skins and GamePad play, the extra ten bucks is more than justified, making the Wii U edition of Minecraft an excellent starting point for new players and one that casual gamers will enjoy as well.
