Arguably the best Sega style/ Sonic inspired Game made since the 90s, along with Sonic 3d World on the Wii U. Both feel like a throwback to what made Sega great. Though they aren't exactly the same as the classic Sonics, the feel of both games takes you back to traditional platforming, moderate speed controlled by the user: rather then just holding down a boost button to speed through a level. With different routes to reach different areas, and more user control, its alot of fun. Boss battles are challenging, and the story is fleshed out for those that are into story based games. Soundtrack is fantastic also. Expand

Maybe it's because I never played Sonic back in the day and can't really appreciate this type of platformer, but I did not really enjoy this game at all. It isn't bad in any way, the animation is nice, it seems to perform well. The gameplay just seems boring to me.

I was interested in this game because it was made to be inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise which is my favorite series of video games. I really like this game too, and I like it how it reminds me of the old Sonic games from the early 90s.

Like the Sonic games this game has lots of fast paced action. the levels are REALLY long about 20 minutes each on some of them which took up a lot of time to get past so it's got really good game play to come back too every time. The main characters are females. one runs really fast (like sonic, coincidental? i think not!) and another one rides a motorcycle. I think this game is very well made. If I had only one complaint then that would be the voice acting. I think the voice acting is immensely annoying and sometimes unnecessarily over dramatic and there is no way to turn it off, which sucks. Does she really have to shout out what she does when you have to press the button....EVERY TIME?!?! and sometimes it's so quiet you can barely hear it over the action or the music and other times they shout too much dialogue even in scenes where nothing is going on.
Other than that that was my only complaint but otherwise I do enjoy Freedom Planet and recommend it even if you are a Sonic Fan or not it's still a fun 2D sidescroller reminiscent of the good old times.

Average platformer. Good for a few hours but I lost interest real quickly.

Pretty much Sonic with a reskin, so if you like Sonic games then it is a game for you.

If Sega isn't going to deliver the classic Sonic follow-up that old-school fans have been clamoring for, then at least Galaxy Trail is ready to step in. [Issue #18 – November/December 2015, p.19]

One might feel tempted to mistake Freedom Planet for a copy of Sonic The Hedgehog but that would be tremendously unfair for this work from GalaxyTrail. Its fun and precise gameplay mechanics, along with a wide amount of content and very original levels will bring hours of 2D fun which will resonate particularly well with 16-bit platforming enthusiasts. Were the mixture between action and platforming be more balanced and the boss fights less burdensome on the player and this would become an instant landmark of indie games.

Freedom Planet may have started out as an attempt to recreate Sonic, but it stands on its own as a great platformer.
