The game is very cool , more harder than the first game but very ,very cool . The principal default is the graphisms , they
aren’t very good in 2023 but good in 2016

As much as they say it's a copy of BOTW, I completely disagree.
A new game, new dynamics, new skills and despite being the same map, the locations and structures have changed a lot.
I am particularly delighted, playing TOTK has been very pleasurable and I have enjoyed every second of the game.

Just so dissapointed in this whole fiasco. If you played BOTW you can literally skip this. I have plenty games I still haven't tried, I will not be sinking my time into something that feels too familiar.

I’m not giving this game a perfect 20 because it’s flawless , because it isn’t. It lags and jitters, but really… that’s it.

How did they Jam Pack all of this into a switch game I’ll never know. There are side adventures that last longer than some games main quest lines. Everything is more engaging and alive and progresses as you do. I can’t praise it enough People who are rating it low

The game itself doesn't have that many bugs that make the game unplayable on launch, which is unusual for Nintendo, but its a great thing. It runs off of BOTW's engine, and starts where BOTW ends. The fact that they added not 1, but TWO NEW AREAS to explore is CRAZY! The fact that we get all that AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE OUR OWN CREATIONS IS INSANE! Ultrahand (the main ability used to build) can replace all of your weapons alone, and then when you get autobuild, weapons become tools to get more materials. The only reason I don't want to give it a 10/10 is the price of 70$, but if you have Nintendo online you can get it for 50$ by buying the 2 game vouchers for 100$, which is 100% worth it for this game. I can't wait to see what speedrunners do with this game. Expand

With thus game being a sequel to botw, it falls into the usual trope of adding more. And good god its too big, unlock sky, ground and depths plus fight the culprits causing chaos to the four races. Its obvious this game is going to take a long time to finish. I’m also not a giant fan of the abilities, seems a bit lazy and all the stuff in botw is gone. There’s no mention of what happened to the sheikah tech, like the big divine beasts are gone and that’s why this to me isn’t a sequel. Its a new game that’s been stapled with too many ideas, and to think they wanted this as a botw dlc?

Because I knew this game was gonna take me ages to see the story, I saw the cutscenes online as that is the strength of these games since oot.
Speaking of which this game they were really trying to make this like oot, but open world and on botw engine. So hardcore oot fans can calm down but it makes botw fans feel a bit lost. The mechanics from botw have got a tweak but I cannot stand the fuse ability. I miss the elemental arrows, and the prices of everything from botw have greatly increased here. Like I swear games are escapism from real world but the inflation jesus christ. Which brings me into this, because there’s so much to do in this game I am doing it at my own pace. I have a feeling dlc isn’t coming until next year and the next game is not going to be out on the switch.

This game yes is fun but its very overwhelming whereas botw was pretty calm and felt like you were out taking a walk. Totk feels like I’m in the military and have to kill lots of enemies and get troops along the way. Seriously I’m going out irl to calm my head as its essentially pandoras box.

I'm now totally convinced the reason Nintendo delayed the release of Tears of the Kingdom a full year was because they knew Elden Ring was a superior game in every way.

Where Elden Ring shines in exploration, traversal, and rewards, TOFK misses the mark. Getting around this massive world feels extremely tedious and the rewards for discovering a new cave, defeating an enemy camp, or unlocking a hidden chest in one of the many shrines just doesn't feel worth it. Players should feel rewarded for spending 15 minutes climbing a mountain or solving a puzzle and this game really fails at it.

Resource management in this game is a chore. You'll find yourself constantly scrolling through the item menu to create space for new weapons or shields that are going to break ten minutes later. It was annoying in BOTW but for some reason Nintendo made it 10X worse in TOTK.

The new abilities don't feel flushed out. Mechanics for the new "ultra hand" ability are clunky and at times infuriating. Lining up the parts of a vehicle you're trying to craft is extremely tedious and aggravating. The worst part about the new vehicle system is that you constantly have to manage energy supply levels or the thing you just spent a half hour making will break. It's basically like a more aggravating version of breakable weapons.

I could look alot of these problems aside if the story was compelling, but 40 hours in, there just isn't enough here to make me care about what i'm doing. Nobody in this world seems to be too worried that their capital got blown up and all this crazy **** is happening. All the NPCs do is hammer you over the head with repetitive dialogue and silly side quests. It's like Nintendo completely overlooked giving context to the people of apocalyptic Hyrule while making this Frankenstein of a game.

In summary, I think Nintendo would've been much better off creating an entirely new game based around the archipelago sky islands instead of making people pay $70 for a Breath of the Wild DLC, which is ultimately what Tears of the Kingdom is.

I would have given this game a 6 but almost everything in the game is recycled from BOTW. Same map, same graphics, same enemies, same weapons, and pretty much the same mechanics other than crafting, which gets old very quick. On top of that the game suffers from major framerate issues. This all wouldn't be as bad if they fixed a lot of the problems with BOTW, but alas they did not. The open world still feels empty, there are still too many shrines with a lack of real dungeons, and weapons still feel like they are made of glass and break after just a few uses. To make matters worse crafting is now a huge part of this game, and it's clear they only did this to appeal to the younger Minecraft crowd. BOTW really didn't feel like a Zelda game, and TOTK feels even less like one. To add insult to injury they had the nerve to charge $70 for this recycled garbage, and the fact that I spent $70 on it is the only thing keeping me playing it. Nintendo, you can do better. Expand

Also the idea of being able to go wherever you want since it is an open world game is not utilized well at all. Other good open world games let’s you actually choose your own experience this way, in this game it usually just means that you can skip parts of the game. Fun…

There is no loot in this game just like the previous game. Why would I care about this new cool weapon if it’s going to break very soon. If I have a full weapon inventory I’m not going to bother opening the chest and see if the weapon inside it is stronger than what I currently have since it does not really matter. What matters is how many weapons you have not how strong it is since it will break during combat. Why not have fewer weapons but make sure that they actually matters and feel distinct from each other. That way I’ll actually care about what I find. This does though match the rest of the game very well in that sense that it prioritizes quantity over quality. Skip this one

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Queen Gibdo absolutely feels like nobody playtested this boss. I went in with ~30 arrows, thinking I'd be picking a bunch up during the fight, or that Riju would resupply me as the fight went on, but.... no. I ran out of arrows before even passing the 3/4 mark, and then I was stuck running around, unable to do anything. Now I have to go farm rupees, buy all the arrows from all across hyrule, then come back and MAYBE pass the halfway point before having to do it all again.

Speaking of rupees, there is virtually no passive gain like in other zelda games. Much like BOTW, enemies drop no rupees. You can't get rupees by cutting grass, either. The only way to get rupees is by doing quests and various activities, or by collecting valuable items to sell. In other words, you have to INTEND to get rupees, you have to take a break from the rest of the game to get rupees. A quest might give you about 100 rupees, which can buy 25 arrows, but most shops only stock 15, meaning you're going to go to two different shops to get your arrows. And for the amount of arrows that you have to stockpile before attempting Queen Gibdo? Prepare to retrace your steps through every single town you've visited so far to clean out their whole stock, while also taking breaks from that to farm for stuff to sell.

This game only built on the story of the previous, and none of the mechanics. Cooking is still the same slog of "Open inventory. Select ingredients. Exit inventory. Drop ingredients in pot. Watch 5 second cutscene. Get result. Open inventory. Select ingre-" You get the idea. Yeah the new powers are interesting, but probably like 90% of the map can be explored just by using Ultra Hand to build a long enough bridge out of whatever random stuff you find.

They kept virtually the same exact inventory/loot system, but now weapons degrade faster because they've all been 'decayed' by the Demon King. The sky islands and the Depths are probably the most interesting parts of the game, because they're the only truly NEW parts. I have so much more fun up/down there than I've ever had on the surface, which is a shame because the surface is where 99% of the story takes place.

Also, the final boss is always available to just... go fight. You just need to jump down into the hole under Hyrule Castle, which you can do as soon as you first make it to the surface, and there he is, welcome to the end of the game! Speedrunners are going to love this, they don't even have to trick their way through a maze of a castle, Nintendo literally gave them a hole straight to the end boss.

Going into this game, I had my expectations very high. Breath of the Wild, its prequal, is my favorite game of all time. Now Breath of the Wild had some issues such as a weak, flimsy story and the bosses being very lackluster. Those things had to be fixed.

Tears of the Kingdom shattered every expectation I had. But first I'll discuss the two flaws and how TOTK fixed it.

The story in Breath of the Wild as I said, is pretty lackluster. For example, I didn't feel there was enough character development and the overall plot is pretty simplistic. Tears of the Kingdom's story is extremely well done and much improved. There was actual character development. I won't go into details to keep it spoiler free.

The second major gripe I had with Breath of the Wild was the bosses. Waterblight Ganon, Windblight Ganon and Fireblight Ganon were too easy and too similar to one another. Thunderblight Ganon while more difficult still lacked distinction. Kohga was Kohga. Calamity Ganon was lazy and Dark Beast Ganon was very anti-climatic. Tears of the Kingdom fixes that with actual distinct and unique bosses. And the final fight against Ganondorf was phenomenal and actually DIFFICULT.

In addition, so much more exploration was added. Not only is there the sky, but now there's the underground area.

Overall without going into so much detail so that way it can be spoiler free, it's an absolute 10/10 game and it deserves Game of the Year!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

In my opinion Skyward Sword is the last good Zelda game, and it just seems like there was a new fan base generated with BOTW, and this fan base never even played many of the older, classic, GOOD Zelda games. They just like big and empty open words with boring objectives. This and BOTW are all about quantity over quality. IMO Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess were not only the best Zelda games, but my favorite games overall. I hate this new direction that Nintendo is going with Zelda. If I could give this game a negative score I would, to offset all these crazy, unnecessary perfect scores. This game is FAR from perfect, or even good. This is now the most overrated video game of all time. Nintendo, please make Zelda great again if this is not their last entry. I actually give this a negative 10 out of 10. Tears of the Kingdom took everything that made Breath of the Wild great and built upon it in a way that truly exceeded my expectations.

Firstly, the graphics and overall presentation of the game were stunning. The world was even more immersive and detailed than before, with incredible attention to every little detail, from the intricate character designs to the breathtaking landscapes. The game's soundtrack was also top-notch, with a perfect mix of both new and familiar tracks that perfectly complemented the gameplay.

Speaking of gameplay, the sequel introduced a range of new mechanics that added a new layer of depth and complexity to the overall experience. The combat system, in particular, was significantly improved, with new abilities and weapons that allowed for more strategic and varied gameplay.

But what really set this sequel apart from the first game was the storytelling. The plot was even more engaging and emotionally charged than before, with well-written characters and unexpected plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire game.

Overall, I can confidently say that this sequel is a masterpiece and a shining example of how to improve upon an already great game. If you loved the first game, you absolutely must play this sequel. And even if you're new to the series, I highly recommend giving it a try. You won't be disappointed.

(this game is played best without knowing too much. Don't read too many spoilers and thank me later)

An open world map? how about three. Also the characters are way more involved with the plot and story than they were in botw. This makes the world feel much more alive. Even the little side characters are interesting. I especially love this random farm lady who wants your help getting back a bottle from a lake. I thought this was just a normal fetchquest for some rupees, so i got her the bottle. Inside it was a recipe for.. cheese. Things happened and now her farm turned into a cheese shop. She sells cheese now. CHEESE! By the way, you can fuse any objects together. its really fun. And as you can probably already tell: I am the proud owner of the cheese sword now.

Oh and for everyone who hates fun: don't worry, the game can go from completely silly to eldritch horror real fast. There is a whole underworld to explore and it scares the **** out of me. I am completely blown away by this game and the amount of things it has to offer and how huge the world is. I've put maybe 50 hours into it by now and only explored maybe a quarter of the map.

However, almost every area of the map has been renovated to accommodate to the new play style and Link's new skills, let alone the addition of two completely new layers of the world. I can see a lot of huge improvement from BotW, such as the diversity in material expending and weapon forging, a real three dimension world, companions, a deeper story, better boss battles, etc. I'm not a big fan of crafting and constructing, but I can imagine how appealing these could be to those players with the interest and a creative mind (yes I'm referring to the huge Minecraft community). There is no doubt that TotK is built upon BotW, but it's a perfection of not just BotW, but also the entire Zelda series. This game is a feast to the players who still have the passion for exploration and discovery. Expand

Also for any zelda fans, there is so much more variety in enemies and they pull from all of Zelda's history. even finding enemies that have never been in a zelda game since the NES era. the spookier tone also makes it more fun. the fear that people had when they first saw a guardian in BOTW. there are so many new enemies that will strike that same fear in people. I definitely recommend getting this game. At the time, the game absolutely grabbed me by the neck; it took hold of me; the sense was absolutely overwhelming. Through the years, I had never felt that feeling again. I’d played other video games, and gone through life’s adventures on the way. Games like Mario Kart 64, Soul Caliber, Quake III (think I’m old yet?), Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (this game was special- it came very close), Wii games, Skyward Sword. Is this list complete? Not even close. I’ve lived through the golden age(s) of gaming.

And then life meandered on. I learned guitar. Joined a few bands. I played sports. Got a bachelor’s; got a doctorate; moved up the corporate ladder. Got back in shape. Got married. Bought a house. Sold it. Bought another house. Life goes on.

In other words, I got way too busy for gaming. But deep down, I missed it. Then one day, I saw a YouTube ad for Breath of the Wild. It just so happened that after all of this insanity, I had also developed a crippling case of clinical depression I was trying to deal with. It was pretty bad. BOTW gave me just a hint of that old feeling I had had many, many, years ago. And I simply had to try it! So I bought a used Switch on Ebay. And there it was! That old feeling from 30 years ago! Wow. My gaming life had returned after a 15+ year lapse. And I’m doing much, much, better. TOTK is a masterpiece. Are you kidding me? It’s an all time great just like BOTW. Some people just don’t appreciate beautiful art. Get it. BUY IT! Don’t listen to the mindless haters. A “zero” rating? Are you kidding me?

After hitting the ground it became evident that the ground level map was reskinned. Since hitting the ground I no longer had the feeling of "oooh" and surprise. To be fair, I did here and there but those moments were few and far between. And at certain points it became an adventure finding what is the "same" in the game. And there is quite a bit sadly.

I'm not disappointed with my purchase overall, however, I am disappointed that after 6 years this is what was the final product. A "this is what we wished we released with BOTW" product from Nintendo and devs.

They heard the complaints about weapon durability and added weapon fusing as a workaround. Which was nice to see.

Overall, the story is different but from high level overview somewhat the same.

This game is everything I wanted out of a Breath of the Wild sequel AND MORE. It adds new quests, new characters, new mechanics, and an entire freaking building system!
    Story:
TotK has a much more unique and involved story compared to BotW. I won't spoil anything here, but a lot more happens than "Ganondorf kidnapped Zelda go save her"
    Gameplay:
This game improves on BotW's gameplay in so many unique ways! The new abilities add so many opportunities for creative solutions to the ingenious puzzles presented to you at every turn. I won't go into details here, but the new abilities offer so many more opportunities for creative puzzle solving than the ones in BotW did. Not to mention you can literally build your own vehicles! This is so impressive for a Switch game!
    World:
The overworld map is the same as BotW, but this is to the game's advantage! You can re-explore areas you know and love from the previous game and see all the different creative ways they've changed! There are also sky islands that you can fly between, and even an ENTIRE UNDERGROUND MAP THE SIZE OF HYRULE! Strange how the review bombers glaze over this part.
    Performance:
The bombers also criticize the performance, but from my experience it has run great! While it's not perfect, the performance is very impressive for a game of this scale running on a SWITCH. And people criticizing the visuals obviously don't know what an "Art Style" is. In my opinion, this is one of the best looking games on the switch! Not quite as good as Metroid Prime Remastered, though.

Tears of the Kingdom is a worthy successor to Breath of the Wild in every way possible. The gameplay is great, the story is interesting, and the amount of possibilities are endless. This game will be relevant for years to come, and is among the best games I've ever played.

(Also the review bombers are just haters that are mad because it scored better than God of War)

I considered BOTW, to be the best game ever made, with Witcher 3: wild hunt being a vary close second. Then, Nintendo drops this thing, and it makes Breath of the Wild feel like a tech demo for Tears of the Kingdom. The story, this time around is a vary fleshed out one, and it's amazing to see the return of semi-traditional dungeons, and actual temple boss battles, don't even get me started on Gannondorf. As this was easily the best fight with him since Wind Waker. Buy this freaking game. Just buy it, you are doing a disservice to yourself if you don't play this. Expand

Just amazing. The game retains all the good stuff from Breath of the Wild, whilst also adding multiple layers with brand new mechanics that can be used in so many different ways. On top of this, there’s a more present storyline with far more challenging boss encounters. Just Fantastic

Tears of the Kingdom is a fantastic game in so many aspects that I'd love to give it a glowing 10/10 review. Sadly there are enough issues that I just can't ignore their effect on my enjoyment of the game and make this a bit of a flawed masterpiece.

The Good: -the ambience and atmosphere is excellent, and the soundtrack compliments this well -many of the new tools are fun to play
Tears of the Kingdom is a fantastic game in so many aspects that I'd love to give it a glowing 10/10 review. Sadly there are enough issues that I just can't ignore their effect on my enjoyment of the game and make this a bit of a flawed masterpiece.

    The Good:
-the ambience and atmosphere is excellent, and the soundtrack compliments this well
-many of the new tools are fun to play around and solve problems with
-no bugs that detract from the overall experience, it feels well polished in that aspect
-new fusing somewhat helps alleviate my gripes I had with durability in BotW. At least now there's a better reason to have a low weapon durability system.
-the story is probably the best zelda has ever delivered recently, but still not the strong suit of the series
-the progression from naked weakling to godlike feels really good and organic, without having to rely on a traditional levelling system
-it's just a fun world to explore for the most part, especially once you've got some faster travelling methods unlocked. There's lots of things to discover and upgrade compared to BotW open world.
-The shrines are more interesting than in BotW, but I still wish there was less of them and more robust dungeons instead

    The Bad:
-the graphics can sometimes look pretty dreadful. Occasional framerate issues as well especially when using ultra-hand
-the lack of voice acting in so many parts feels lazy in 2023. Nintendo has this issue with a lot of their flagship titles.
-The cutscenes are inexplicably bad at times, randomly cutting to black (loading screen or narrative choice, who knows?) or focusing on a still image for a baffling amount of time for no reason. The dialogue is a pretty mixed bag as well.
-Controls are a bit janky, and even after getting used to them, so many elements of the controls and how they interact with the UI could be much better. More on that in the next point...
-Having to pause combat to fiddle around with menus in any action game nowadays feels like a failure in design. Really detracts from the momentum of combat, and makes it feel less fluid.
-Combat is still a bit of an overly basic slog. Luckily, it's not a major focus of the game. Seemingly taking a backseat to making clever use of your tools to solve problems and navigate the world.
-It still feels like it's lacking interesting dungeons that were present in previous entries. It was a problem I had with BotW and it's still present here. The basic puzzle shrines and sparse dungeons in this entry are probably overall better than I remember in BotW with the divine beasts and tedious shrines, but far from the best the series offered in the past.

Tears of the Kingdom is a great experience I'd recommend to most gamers, but it's not nearly as flawless as it should be being a followup to BotW and borrowing so many of its assets. Definitely enjoyed my time with it all the same.

No one's here to read a college thesis, so I'll knock this one out, good/bad/ugly style (ugly being things that I wasn't a fan of but that don't affect the overall score).

    The Good:
-if you liked BOTW, you'll be happy to know all of its mechanics have essentially returned.
-the new runes are mostly pretty good and shake up exploration in inventive ways.
-the remixed overworld isn't perfect, but I am willing to admit they did more than I expected them to.
-the new areas are pretty cool. Spelunking is really fun.
-the dungeons, as the game calls them, are generally a big improvement on the Divine Beasts.

    The Bad:
-if there were aspects of BOTW you didn't like, you'll be disappointed to know that every single core mechanic has returned.
-using Ultrahand for building (it has other uses, which are fine) sucks. Stray from what the game *wants* you to make and it will rarely ever work. Just make bridges. They're funny and they actually work.
-while it doesn't come into play often, there are parts of the world where it's very clear the game wasn't built with your toolset in mind. (hint: because it was built for BOTW's toolset)
-the story is almost laughably bad. Same minimalistic approach as BOTW but with a far worse script. Ganondorf deserved better.

    The Ugly:
-no matter what the game calls them, these still aren't dungeons as Zelda fans know them. The Divine Beasts weren't terrible, but they left me feeling hungry for something better. Dungeons in this game are basically the Divine Beasts without the control mechanism. They are generally better, though.
-they took whistle-sprinting out. While it was a glitch and did need to be removed, it was really handy for getting around quickly. Having nothing replace it is really unfortunate.

Overall a fun game, but six years and $70 is a big ask for what we ultimately ended up getting, which largely does play like an DLC rather than a proper sequel. Not in terms of scope (the game definitely has scope), but in terms of what the game actually is.

The good thing is that, thanks to the limited possibilities, the creators couldn't go crazy and swing for hundreds of game miles. Instead, they created what could be called Elden Ring in a travel pack. [Issue#328]

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement. It's not every day that such a special video game like this comes around. Truly the stuff of legend.
