Theyre not interesting or replayable anymore. The story was not that good, Ganondorf was a complete waste, and has only the memories story and patiently dont do anything in the whole game but wait for Link to come kill him. Thes sky islands are just hard to reach (without cheating with infinite batteries) but plain except forthe ones on the main story, enemies are as repetitive as BOW an the worst thing ever the weapons still break even faster than before, who thought of that? The undergropunds is mere distraction, there is nothing there worth to go. The map is the same and disappointing to see after 6 years of 'work' and the temples were a huge disappointment, really the divine beasts without the controls. But equally boring and one more than before. The final boss disappointing, only flurry rush. Cant say anything that was positive and after finishing the game I didnt chnage my mind. Maybe a 5 if lucky, but sad to experience a DCL that pretended to be very different. Expand

You ends up bouncing around 3 or more different levels, and to be honest the lowest one is just ugly - yea the phasma comes from underground but when you play it seems they just added it because Elden Ring got one, no other reason up to the end.
What happens is that the world is so uninteresting and the exploration so interrupted that I would continue playing again the first game for the 2nd time - as I was doing - then going on with this.
Everything is an alternative of what was great, powers included. The only exception is "ascension", but I really would like bombs, glacius and the other set.
The attempt of copyrighting physics and basic actions should deserve a 0 but it would not respect the game quality.
Not Diablo 4 delusion level, but to me it is still a delusion

Sometimes fusing stuff feels incredibly compelling and enjoyable, while at other times it's a real hindrance and annoyance. Half the time there are simpler solutions than spending 5-10 minutes constructing some sort of contraption, and I found myself skipping fuse activities altogether. A generation brought up on Minecraft will likely find a lot to love about this new facet of the game, but on balance it left me cold. The rest of the game is just...Breath of the Wild all over again. Same map (with some alterations), same combat mechanics, same...everything. Granted, being rocketed into the sky was never not a thrill, but I'm sad they didn't spend any of the 6-year interval between this and Breath updating anything. Riding a horse, for example, is still a chore, with unresponsive controls -- something that could have very easily been updated for this outing. I really really wanted to love this game, and there were certainly moments where the old thrill came back. Unfortunately, in the end, there just weren't enough of those moments to maintain my interest. Expand

The new system makes the game more like a building game, not a RPG game. The balance between stories, battles and puzzles was better in the past. I cannot really understand why would they do that in the new title.

Tears has the distinct advantage of being built on top of a title already considered to be one of the greatest gaming triumphs of the modern era, to this end there wasn't anything that could potentially go wrong, with every addition only capable of being an improvement.

The map has been greatly expanded in multiple dimensions - the surface now connects to both a subsurface and underworld via a hundred cave and well networks; some of these are small, others are massive and cavernous, each is unique. A vast, dark mirror world is accessible from the surface via chasms hundreds of metres deep, serving as a giant combat and survival arena across the entire stretch of Hyrule. Above the surface are multiple tiers of floating islands, hosting their own unique combat and exploration scenarios, resources and building materials, and across all these tiers of the map are a dozen dungeons and mini-dungeons, the journeys to each are among the most unforgettable experiences of the entire game. Returning towns and settlements have been so greatly reformed that they're barely recognisable; from ruined Kakariko and fashion-crazed Hateno to the first-stage rebuilding of Castle Town and the Gerudo's entire new secondary settlement.

There are now around 250 quests to complete, over 3x as many as its predecessor, reflecting how much the content density and population of this in-game world has increased, with about 30 new enemy

The new ability mechanics are so much fun, Ultrahand makes it possible to play around with just about every asset, being able to combine all kinds of objects to build as ridiculous or as functional within the 21-item limit as your imagination allows, this ability paired up with the wide variety of Zonai components allows you to cover all bases from constructing giant mechs, mobile fortresses and large trap setups to tanks, cruise ships and aerial bombers for a healthy dose of vehicular mayhem. Fuse makes it possible to attach any item or asset to any weapon of choice, providing hundreds of options with unique power boosts and functionality, in addition to being able to attach any item from your entire inventory to arrowheads with numerous effects ranging from a simple damage boost to blinding or confusing your enemies, then freezing, electrocuting and burning them to a crisp in a massive fireball. Ascend and Rewind open up the world further by making it possible to phase through solid structures above you or to catch a ride on any vertical or laterally moving object by reversing its motion by approximately 30 seconds, additionally allowing you to take out enemies with their own thrown projectiles.

The visuals have noticeably improved and the world is much more gorgeous to look at, with the landscape defined by greater saturated blues, greens, yellows and oranges, the sound design has improved considerably too, with the greatest sensory experience of this world coming from the ambience channelled through a good set of headphones.

There are numerous quality of life improvements found within Tears stemming from grievances previously raised; meals are now saved and stored as recipes which can be quickly accessed from a recipe menu, the map has coordinates and can now be accessed from an ability wheel so your adventure window may stay open on another tab, items can be sorted, thrown or dropped without accessing the main menu while you will be given the option to drop an item if you open a chest with a full weapon inventory. Additionally, you can look over dialogue you may have missed thanks to a chat log window, loading screens pass by much faster the Switch overclocks when on these screens, and for my personal favourites - it's now possible to ride the dragons across the map rather than get taken out by their elemental attacks and blasted away, and Link has his very own fully customisable home where you can store all your rare collectibles, cook, sleep, pray and chill to your heart's content.

The overall structure of the game is the same as its predecessor, in turn the same as pretty much all their predecessors; travel through the regions, completing dungeons as you do so to reverse or preventing region-destroying threats, defeat a regional boss, then come for Ganondorf in order to save your girl.

Overall Tears does what was probably thought impossible - it recaptures the magic of Breath of the Wild all over again and surpasses it, preserving the integrity of that returning world while reforming it enough to succeed as its own reinterpretation, and providing a wholesome adventure through a beautifully designed sci-fi/fantasy setting that you can lose yourself for hours at a time in, complemented by a wonderful roster of characters representing numerous distinct peoples and cultures throughout human history. Like Breath of the Wild before, it's truly a one-of-a-kind experience.

GOTY aside, this game is honestly one of the best video games of all time. Leading up to its release, I didn't think it was going to be as good as Botw. After playing Totk for 140 hours, i can confidently say that it absolutely blew my expectations. I initially gave this game a ten, and while I still think it is an excellent game, the more I have played, the more evident its shortcomings have become.

I wish the sky islands had more variety to them rather than the same crystal puzzles repeated over and over--it seems in retrospect like a missed opportunity not to include more diverse content. The same goes for the many caves and wells around Hyrule--a very cool concept, but not as interesting in practice as it could have been.

While the world map itself is well remixed, the unavoidable consequence of using the same world map is that the sense of exploration and discovery is diminished compared to Breath of the Wild. I think that feeling of mystery and discovery was a big part of the appeal and enjoyment of Breath of the Wild; technically speaking, Tears of the Kingdom builds on and refines nearly everything from BotW, and may be the superior game, but those improvements may not come across as significant as they really are since TotK lacks the same sense of newness that BotW did.

Those critiques aside, this is a fantastic game, and if I could give it an 8.5, I would.

I may disagree with giving this game a perfect score, but that's not radically outside the margin of a reasonable score. What is unreasonable is the clear review-bombing campaign to pull TotK's score down.

Anybody ranking this game lower than a '5' is likely not reviewing in good faith, and anybody ranking this game as a '1' or '0' is trolling. The average as of this writing is 8.2, and that is artificially low--it really should be mid-range 8s.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has lived up to the high expectations created by the success of Breath of the Wild with its exquisitely intertwined gameplay systems, outstanding music, and a legendary story culminating in a magnificent denouement.
