    Just got fooled into buying this game on sale. Bought it immediately because I thought it was a Super Meat Boy game... It's kinda one, I guess. Definitely not what I was looking for.

    Great game. It unfortunately has to live up to its predecessor which is probably why this game has such mixed feelings. I will only judge the game by itself. The cutscenes are absolutely gorgeous and the story is good. Its also a pretty difficult game but if you are just playing the game for the first time, do not go into dark world immediately and instead, focus on finishing the levels inGreat game. There is a patch coming soon that will change the difficulty slightly and will change some chunks. Mostly the tutorial chunks. A chunk is a small part of a level that generates by seed. The game does have some flaws like some tutorial chunks getting ahead of themselves and causing players to get stuck on those chunks because they don’t know what to do. This is getting changed in the patch coming in a month. There are some levels in the game that are very very long, mostly the last world in the game. Some with par times about 3-4 mins long. I’d say a minute and 30 to about 2 mins is a good size for a level. A+ is no longer the highest rank you can get in a level, it is now S ranks which means beating the levels par time and beating the level deathless. This is where the difficulty of the game mostly lays. I don’t like the fact that this rank exists because this goes against what meat boy is which is trial and error. Sure, there are still deathless achievements like oak boy and vaccine girl but they do not count towards a full completion which is 726%, S ranks do. The music is also top notch and ridiculon knocked this one out of the park. Overall, I’d say definitely give this game a chance and don’t trash on the game because you cannot run or it’s because it’s an “autorunner” Expand

    It's fun, replayable and it has a really smart level design.
    C'mon, give SMBF a chance. Super Meat Boy is my favourite game ever, and I do love SMBF also. Trust me :)

    Scoring a game a 10/10 to me implies that I personally love a game not that it’s perfect. The world 4 boss is evidence that this is not a perfect game. The pressing down repeatedly to punch and dying in the middle of a hoard of Dr Fetus clones when I can’t even see myself is the lowest part of the game.

    I was out of the loop and saw that there was a sequel to the game with the smoothest controls to ever exist. Even if the level design was garbage, I couldn't wait to launch the game and get that old feeling of jumping meat boy around while dying every two seconds.

    First of all. Most people become instantly disinterested or dissapointed as soon as they discover that it is an auto runner, thinking it cannot be good. Because mobile autorunners are typically trash. this type of people often didn't even played the game, or played, but instantly quit as soon as they discover it is an autorunner. This is wrong, because for me it is very different from other aurorunners, it is more like a platformer in which you run automatically. It is definitely not a cheap mobile trash-type game. This is main the reason of hate toward this game, and also the most senseless one. Play it first. it is good. This game is not like what they thought. It is not like typical moblie autorunners.

    The second reason is that they think it disappointed them as a sequel and it plays differently. They said it took away anything that made it so good. For this, I would say it is a completely worthy sequel. For me, reducing the controls make it possible to add more gimmicks. it also make the game fair and balaced instead of just being hard like the first game. (the first game is still fair and balanced, just too hard for my taste) I would say it's level design is even better than the original. The original has saws and a lot of hazards. just a lot of them. Forever has far more mechanic and things that made up some very clever level designs. The original, while you had control, is purely skill based. While Forever is a faster-paced auto runner, it added puzzle element that require you to think in order to beat. Procedurally generated levels doesn't made it any less good, in fact, it is not actually generated: It's levels are a in fact a bunch of smaller hand-crafted levels linked together procedurally. It is still has good level designs. like the original. it is a completely worthy sequel, with different, but still amazing platforming challenges. It is the change in genre that made it so good and unique, but it simply doesn't fit in many people's taste. It is a brave choice, i like it, but good changes doesn't always make people happy. It indeed has nearly everything that has made the original so good, and much more.

    Another reason they hate is because the music is different. I don't have much to say about this one, but for me it is perfectly fine.

    The animated cutscene is no doubt perfect. there's no argue. The animation is far, far better than the first one with far less violence, grosteque or vulgar humor, and much more cuteness and heartwarming moments. Nugget is awesome.

    The different mechanics are also amazing. especially the dimension spiders in the other side.

    This is my opinion. you can disagree but i have said all i can say. For me it is simply amazing. I admire their hard work. Thanks you, Tommy. for giving us such a good game.

    A tip to those negative reviewers: never write a review again in your life. Those wrongful reviews will only turn people away from this gem. I mean no offense, but you guys are seriously wrong.

This is not a sequel to super meat boy, it's a spinoff and it really feels like a step back from the original. Super Meat Boy Forever is by far a worthy sequel to one of the best and most influential indie games of all time. Meat Boy, Bandage Girl, and Dr. Keith Fetus return! During a picnic, Dr. Fetus kidnaps MB and BG's baby daughter, Nugget. It's up to our favorite cubed heroes to **** him up!While definitely different than the first Super Meat Boy, this game certainly lives up to the wait! Super Meat Boy Forever is by far a worthy sequel to one of the best and most influential indie games of all time. Meat Boy, Bandage Girl, and Dr. Keith Fetus return! During a picnic, Dr. Fetus kidnaps MB and BG's baby daughter, Nugget. It's up to our favorite cubed heroes to **** him up!

    While the auto-running nature of the game might understandably be a turn off for many, The levels being built around this method of movement, plus the new methods of transportation now at Meat Boy and Bandage Girl's disposal more than make up for it. Apart from the standard running and jumping, you can now punch while airborne to give yourself a speedboost as well as attack enemies and obstacles. You can also dive down to the ground and slide to duck under low-hanging foes. Not only does this make things much more hectic at times, but it also opens the gate to TONS of ways to cheese levels. It's incredibly satisfying to struggle with a difficult section, find out you can boost over a wall, or skip half the level if you dive in just the right spot, and tell the level to go **** itself. I will say that, on the Switch version, sometimes when I press the button to jump or punch the game just...won't do it. This is only a problem for my Switch on this specific game, so I will have to place the blame on it. It makes ****ing up a particularly long chunk that much more frustrating.

    Wait, chunk? Yes, that's right. Levels work a but differently this time around as well. Instead of 20+ levels each world with a tiny challenge, worlds have 6 levels with multiple small Meat Boy levels strung together to make a big one. Don't worry about having to beat them all in one go, as there's a checkpoint after each one. These levels, called "chunks," are semi-randomly determined by a seed that's generated when you start your save file and can edit at will. Fortunately, there IS still a system in place that attempts to string certain chunks after others to maintain a proper difficulty curve. However wonky that my be. Sometimes I'll struggle on the very first chunk of a level then breeze through the rest.

    Chunks still have their own fair of issues, at least on the Switch version at launch. Most of these issues have been found, addressed, and already patched on the Epic Store version but according to Team Meat on their Discord channel, Nintendo's approval system for patches takes quite a bit, but it's the version we got so it's the version I'm reviewing. Some chunks just...don't work right. Some can softlock you if you aren't careful...and sometimes even if you are! Team Meat estimate there's at least 6,000 different chunks you can encounter in the game, so there were bound to be a few buggy ones, but straight up forcing you to leave, retry, or even skip a whole level? I can't excuse that. Some chunks also have messed up Par Times. Just like in the first SMB, if you beat a level under a certain time you A+ rank it and unlock the Dark World variant. Since levels are much longer this time, the timer saves each time you beat a chunk and resets when you die. However there are a few sections in the game where you can do everything exactly as intended, while boosting as much as possible, and still turn up a few seconds short. Sometimes even more than that.

    This game introduces a new rank however. S rank. Beat a level under par without dying once, and the level icon will turn gold as well as help you unlock hidden characters. Again, this feature has already been added in the EGS version, but there's no Quick Restart button. Meaning if you're grinding out S Ranks, you have to pause the game, quit to the world map, and reenter the stage just to try again. This also means you'll be hearing the same part of the music over and over again, and while Ridiculon did a bang-up job with the OST, it's not something I'd want to repeatedly listen to the first 10 seconds of on loop.

    As mentioned previously, unlockable characters return, but don't get your hopes up too much. Other than a few characters I won't spoil, there are no characters from other Indie games this time around. Instead, it's characters from this game, as well as Meat boy and Bandage girl in character-themed skins. These you can find through Warp Zones, collecting pacifiers (this game's version of bandages) beating levels, etc. Aside from one, they all control and play exactly the same as well. Bit of a bummer, but understandable since the levels would basically break completely if a character could double jump, or get a massive boost, etc.

    I won't go into much else as to avoid spoilers, but I really don't need to anyway. It's pretty much just what I described, but stretch throughout 6 worlds, both light and dark variants. A short game, even shorter than the first one, but a great time nonetheless. It's something I'll be picking up and playing for days to come! Thank you, Team Meat!

    Im a bit disappointed, for an auto-runner its just a mediocre game at best, nothing special.

    Super Meat Boy Forever, even though I have my issues with it, is still fantastic. It’s what I wanted out of a meat boy sequel and more. It’s worth it even for the cutscenes alone. And I haven’t even scratched the surface of this game! Absolutely check it out.

If you want to try something new, just as hard as the first one but with still the same fairness in difficultly (if you died you screwed up, it’s not the game’s fault) then try SMBF. I thoroughly enjoyed coming back the SMB world, yes it’s an auto runner, but I had no stereotype against it, the game is built aroundAs others have pointed out, yes this game is different than the first one. If you want to try something new, just as hard as the first one but with still the same fairness in difficultly (if you died you screwed up, it’s not the game’s fault) then try SMBF. I thoroughly enjoyed coming back the SMB world, yes it’s an auto runner, but I had no stereotype against it, the game is built around the concept of auto running, adding countless other and new mechanics in the process. Try is with an open mind, control-wise this isn’t a sequel but a cleverly crafted spinoff. However, this is a sequel in the real sense of the word, something that follows in the step of the first one, but takes a new direction. Boss battles are great and tough as nails. I’m still stuck at boss 4 and hope to update the review as I progress. Give this game a try and if like me its style fits your preferences in gaming. You will truly enjoy it. Expand

    Rating the game for what it is, without comparing it to the first game, it's a lot of fun! In fact, it's the only autorunner I've ever played that is fun, with insane replayability. The way the levels are built is interesting, giving the game a sort of a "puzzly" element. A perfect game for the Switch!

The levels themselves are generated on a per chunk basis, meaning the levels are longer, but can be far more droll, repetitive, and nonsensical. On the more positive side, the controls and responsiveness are tight, the cut-scenes and music are fantastic, and some of the intuitive level mechanics are very interesting and fun, as well as there being a lot of them. Unfortunately, the unlockables are sub par, the bosses are fun but limited, and the levels do not feel like individual levels, but rather stacks of shiny scraps taped together to form a messy whole. This leaves the experience feeling very empty after a quick play through, and the desire to race the clock just wasn't there for me. If you are a fan of minimal button, mobile-like games for everyone, then the very reasonable price tag will make it worth it for a few hours of fun. But for the hardcore gamers out there looking for something unique like the original Super Meat Boy, this just isn't it.

Get used to the new controls. Stop crying that it’s not the same as the first one. It’s a lovingly crafted game and you will love it. The dark world! Wow! Bits stop working right, we get twinges in muscles... twinges. It's not fun getting old. Neither is playing SMB over 40. This game, although not like the original,FEELS like it, and without the debilitating pain that came with 20 minutes of play.SMB was a rock-hard, but rewarding, take on the Super Mario formula.     This game is clearly "a horse designed by a committee". What could have been a wonderful addition to the series clearly had too many hands in the pot.
    It feels like a mobile game ported to consoles. Ina painful way. I think I could enjoy this on mobile. But not my PC or Switch.
    Random level design also really misses the point as well. SMB had really well designed levels. This is a hodgepodge.

    I played through the first Super Meat Boy game multiple times and reached 106% completion and I must say that after having played through Super Meat Boy Forever I'm disappointed.
    After first starting up the game the controls immediately felt noticeably limited in comparison to its predecessor.
    I don't necessarily think Super Meat Boy Forever is a bad game. I think it's a polished average

    What I don't understand is why they had to make the game an autorunner. If the only reason is to make it successful in the mobile community, I believe they've made a huge mistake. Now that the released game doesn't come across as very good, the mobile community won't even hear about it. I consider it a massive failure.
    Sure, now it's different from the first game, but it didn't have to be. People obviously liked it, so why change it in a way that's going to change everything people liked about it?
    They should have made this a spin-off title, like Super Mario Run for example and additionally, with more effort put into it, they should have made an even more challenging version of Super Meat Boy, polished it a little bit and call it Super Meat Boy 2 or Super Bandage Girl or something along those lines instead.
    Now that I've beaten the game, I don't feel the same replay value that I've felt after beating the first game, which is a tragedy in itself, as this game has generated levels and would in theory have an even greater replay value.
    What's bugging me most apart from the autorunner mechanic, is that the game feels like they've put a lot of effort into it, but it didn't work out in the end.
    To all the people still considering to buy this game, hoping it will still feel like the first Super Meat Boy: I wouldn't recommend buying or playing it, as I've had way more fun with other autorunners like Bit Trip Runner.

Coming from the original SMB, I was a bit surprised by the choice of making this an autorunner where the gameplay is tuned down to pressing two different buttons (you could that on a mobile device such as a smartphone as well). This turns the whole gameplay into just a boring timing reaction game instead of giving you, as the player, some opportunity to make up for badI am disappointed. It feels such as you are never actually in control, just trying with trial-and-error to get through the world as some player who is there for some ingame character you cannot identify with as you got no real control.

    The fact that the levels are now semi-autogenerated is something which I also strongly dislike as there can be parts where even after a lot of trying no really good way can be found to master it, and the game does not give you any hints by the level design, which was also much better solved in the first game in my eyes. There I had the feeling that I just knew what I was doing wrong and now needed to figure out how to make it better. In SMB Forever I just feel like I am doing something wrong which I cannot say what I am doing incorrectly, just that I am. It is so annoying and not in a good way where you want to get better, but in a way where you want to get a refund. Or to make it short: The difficulty balancing is off, way off on what it should be.

    What I do like is the fair price point of about 16€ (Austria) in case you can enjoy the day (I don't/didn't), the overall art style and how the gameplay feels (i.e. very smooth frame times, good reactions to inputs).

    In Super Meat Boy you're rarely not running so it doesn't seem so bad, but it's worse than it seems because you usually can't turn around without walljumping. Combined with the reasonably high level of difficulty this is incredibly frustrating. It feels bad to keep dying because the stupid level puts a hazard right in the way of the path you're forced to take because you're so constrained.In Super Meat Boy you're rarely not running so it doesn't seem so bad, but it's worse than it seems because you usually can't turn around without walljumping. Combined with the reasonably high level of difficulty this is incredibly frustrating. It feels bad to keep dying because the stupid level puts a hazard right in the way of the path you're forced to take because you're so constrained. And in many cases, you have very little flexibility to adjust your timing for the next attempt. I'm not saying the idea couldn't have worked, but as executed the levels are absolutely unfun. Expand

    Wow, it's amazing how you can turn brilliant first game with simple yet challenging mechanic into this utter garbage. Now it's just literally two button runner with no character control whatsoever and neverending deaths just to find single possible path from one checkpoint to another.     Bosses is the greatest disappointment, you just die million times to learn precise path to beat them, no frustration, only boring repetative million tries.

    Super Meat Boy Forever is no doubt going to be a controversial game, especially among Super Meat Boy purists. But its new ideas bring a world of new possibilities for precision platforming challenges and sheer level design creativity. Dying over and over again in an effort to master the precise jumps and perfect timing each level demands rarely feels as good as it does in Super Meat Boy Forever.
