The storyline is well thought out and executed excellently. The game is able to bring nostalgia around every corner while giving exciting new features and enemies. I give it 9/10 because I personally don't think it is quite as good as some previous games, such as the Mario Galaxy series or Mario 64, but it is definitely amazing nonetheless. Buy this if you are a long time fan of the franchise, you will not be disappointed. Expand

Great Game!!!!!!!! This is a one of a kind game!!! When in Earth did they show Mario's nipples!!!!! I'm proud of you Nintendo! i'm giving you a 9/10 instead of 10/10 because you've got to understand that you can't just add nipples on Mario without a bellybutton. Find this helpful if you agree.

Nintendo still got it! This game is amazing. The graphics are nice and the level design is much fun. Every area feels different and looks great. The music very well done. Unfornately there is not much story. This is to be expected since Nintendo never really suceeded in that part. The gameplay however makes more than up for con. A must, as all Marios. Cappy add new mechanics levels. Very balanced, linear game it is quite easy, but some moons are very challenging.

Out of all Mario games I could play I didn’t think any would beat Mario 64, but this did. From start to finish this game is amazing. I collected all the moons. The only thing I’d change is the fact that you need to buy to get to 999

I was really excited for this one, but in the end it kind of falls flat. It is an enjoyable experience, but it doesn't have the wow factor that Mario 64 had. I guess I have to be a kid again to fully appreciate it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I recently replayed the game and all was well until I started to play Lake Kingdom. I really hate drowning damage and Cheep Cheeps moved too slow, so I turned on assist mode. I really don't like the 6 bonus hearts, because they make the game too easy in my opinion. I toggled assist mode off for Wooded Kingdom, not only because of the extra hearts, but also because disabling instadeath when falling off ledges is boring. Then I got to Seaside Kingdom and turned on assist mode. Ground pounding the squid was pretty hard, but I managed. After that, I went to Luncheon Kingdom, struggled to capture the fire thing, fell into the lava, repeated the process twice, and then ragequitted. However, the rest of the game is awesome and fun. I just wish there was an assist config like in Celeste and Darkest Dungeon because just two options are pretty limiting and extreme. Overall, I recommend this game if you can get over these annoyances. Expand

Just a bunch of moon grabs with little to no challenge. It’s a beautiful game just boring and not really that fun. Great for younger kids but I won’t be replaying this game.

yes this is super low because i'm not a fan of Nintendo but i wanted to try Mario and it failed an important mission which is to draw in new fans. the formula is still old but the controlling hat is a nice idea. don't take my opinion this game is not for me but might be for you

Boring and overrated sandbox game, one of the worst Mario game I ever played. Some solutions are really fun, but only for while. If you want great 3D Mario game check 3D All Stars or Bowser's Fury addition to 3D World (and 3D World is much much better than this crap).

Rarely do transformations benefit you. There is little to no art cohesion as all the characters from different worlds look like they belong in different games. And the bosses are terrible. The Broodals are too cute. At one point you fight a gigantic dragon that makes me wonder why Bowser is necessary. I do not look forward to seeing characters from this game in spin-off games- or being reminded of Odyssey in General. Disappointing game. Don’t bother now that better 3D Mario games are on the Switch. Expand

A magnificent 3D platformer, full of references to older Mario games.
Graphically it's stunning for a Nintendo game, the musical score carries the whole thing majestically and the controls are neat as we're used to in Mario games, while offering a few new concepts which are refreshing and probably becoming a staple in future Mario games.

Back in 2017 I played this game, and I was blown away. From the amount of creativity to the visuals. Odyssey is the most creative Mario game yet. It felt boring, and bland. How could something so epic be something so boring and bland? After many years after trying to replay the game, I tried out something different. As after my first time beating Odyssey, I attempted to find as many stars as possible, making all the fun and interest in the world go to waste. I learned that in order to enjoy Odyssey again, I should explore at my own pace. I started to move on to different worlds once I wondered around. And you know what, it worked. I never had as much fun in Odyssey, until I started to learn to enjoy the game. And once I finished it, it really did make me glad I finished it. Odyssey is such a unique game. The amount of style is unmatched. While Odyssey is not my favorite Mario game, it sure is one of the best. You just need to learn to enjoy the game. Only three things I can complain about are simply the game being easy, that there should be more to do after the game ends, and that the story does not grab me as other games such as Super Mario Galaxy did. Mario Odyssey is just another example of how unique the 3d Mario games are. The only thing to note is that in order to enjoy the game, you need to enjoy the game! Not overwhelmingly focused on getting the moons and beating the game as fast as possible. Playing Odyssey reminded me that you need to see games like you were a kid again, not focused on all of the challenges, but by letting your curiosity go on. Expand

The game is really fun but It lacks the 2-d part of 2-d and 3-d and the poses u can do are really sus. I find that there are to many glitches and the balloon thing is so **** because u have epic meta speed runners that use glitches to hide there balloon and then an average Joe sees it but cant do a tripe ground pound flying cap jump to get it

While it was difficult to imagine how Nintendo could top previous 3D Mario adventures, Super Mario Odyssey is nigh-on perfect in almost every way. With the help of Cappy, Mario has never been as fun to control, reaching new heights and, in the hands of a skilled player, accomplishing impossible skips. You need only pick up a controller to see why this is the best modern Mario game ever.

The best entry to the best platforming series is so ridiculously huge it’s like a theme park made of theme parks. It’s a wonderful tribute to Super Mario 64, but it’s not a lazy homage. Super Mario Odyssey draws inspiration from the superb classic to top it and everything that came after it. [13/2017, p.38]

Perhaps no past Mario game has ever elicited so many smiles as this, and even if every other winning aspect of its design were set aside, that reality alone would make it a masterpiece. [Issue #31 – January/February 2018, p. 39E]
