This remake looks good but does not solve some camera and framerate issues.

    Even with its many imperfections, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated ultimately succeeds as an attempt to spruce up a 17-year old game. It doesn’t stand alongside the 3D platforming greats, but it’s a fantastic, humour-filled tribute to a beloved show. People less familiar with the yellow sea sponge’s exploits will find it harder to overlook the creaky, PlayStation 2-era quirks. It looks better, but that doesn’t mean it plays better than it did 17 years ago.

Speaking as one of those fans, I think that’s really admirable and despite some late-game annoyances and sound design flaws, I found Battle For Bikini Bottom absolutely worth going back for. Nostalgia may be a powerful tool, but this game is still worthy of your time regardless.

    This is for one of the best SpongeBob SquarePants videogames ever made. However, the game hasn't been properly updated after the original title was released more than 15 years ago.

    Battle for Bikini Bottom felt as much a battle to play at times as it did to defeat those robots. It’s great to see a cult classic get a fresh lick of paint, but style over substance just isn’t enough.

    This is one of the few games of my childhood that I really don’t remember too much of. Playing though was a huge nostalgia kick for me and some parts felt like new experience. The story is way better than what you would expect from a spongebob game and the gameplay is incredible. But there is one big problem that people shouldn’t ignore... this game is game is littered with glitches. Nothing that completely breaks the game, just small annoyances that can get in the way of platforming. It definitely doesn’t effect the experience negatively. And then there’s the loading screens like wtf is going on? The game is beautiful but it’s not impressive enough to merit a 3 minute long loading screen! There are a few graphical glitches, but most of which I find are pretty funny so I like them. The game is incredible... but there are a ton technical problems that just can’t be ignored.… Expand

    -Character movement is stiff (unless you become your own smart camera)
    -Smart camera does not work the way it should
    -The framerate is inconsistent
    -Pop-in textures are extremely common
    -loading screens are LOOOOOOONG!
    -lack of modern features such as a centering camera behind player button and customization outfits
    -Clancy Brown still does not voice Mr. Krabs
    -Inflated Shiny Object requirements for Mr. Krab's spatulas
    -Animations and sound effect bugs

    Here's hoping a patch comes soon. The game is fun but rushed and unpolished.    … Expand
