Given the enduring popularity of Sonic over the years – even with a couple of missteps along the way – it seems like there are plenty of people who will value getting a chance to play these games with fresh eyes and from a different perspective. If you’re one of those people, then Sonic Origins absolutely makes it worthwhile to revisit these classics.

Overpriced DLC and the odd omission aside, the fact is that the five games in this collection are stone-cold classics, and they’ve never played better. Those without nostalgia may understandably wait for a sale and a further bit of polish. But Sonic Origins will be a great trip down memory lane if you were a Genesis supporter back in the day of the 16-bit schoolyard debates. They are infinitely replayable.

Sonic Origins on Nintendo Switch should've been an easy collection to recommend to anyone looking to play classic Sonic games in the best possible way, but it is held back by some optimization issues on Nintendo Switch and a lack of polish in some areas. It has a lot of care put into the overall package with some lovely extras, but it definitely needed a bit more time. Hopefully it gets a few patches to bring it to the state it deserves to be in for a potential physical release.

Sonic Origins is a compilation that allows us to recall the origins of the blue hedgehog with interesting new content. However, nostalgia may not be enough to convince some players. Even so, it is still a highly recommended title.

The games in Sonic Origins are among the best Sonic the Hedgehog titles in existence and this package is a great way to experience these games, especially for new fans who were introduced to the franchise by the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

Messy as it is, Sonic Origins is still a collection of the best 2D entries the franchise has to offer. It may not be as dense in content in comparison to prior compilations like Sonic Mega Collection or Sonic Gems Collection, but it does just enough to not get in the way of what made these games system sellers in their heyday. While I was hoping for an easy touchdown, this ended up being a fumble recovery instead. Hefty price tag be damned, new players deserve to see why people like me keep going back to what many consider the reason people loved Sonic in the first place.

A conflicting compilation of Sonic games that does plenty right in remastering some of the blue hedgehog's classic Mega Drive hits, but lets everyone down with unnecessary money-grabbing DLC, while not offering anywhere near the amount of content that really should be here in terms of the Sonic series' vast history. Still with bugs to fix, time will tell if Sonic Origins becomes a respectable overall package, but it will suffice for the more casual fan after a bigger price drop.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I recently bought the game on a Nintendo Switch. I thought looking at the Internet that the game is not playable, that there are a lot of bugs. But it's not, it's a very good collection of games. Many modes: mirror, normal, boss, festive. You can earn coins without donation. These coins can be used to get cool content in the museum. Games with Genesis abruptly moved. Of course there were bug 1! but it does not change anything. I liked the game so much for sure I stamp 10. Expand

SEGA have a bad history with Sonic remakes and just Sonic in-general recently. Forces was a boring and short game, Colors Ultimate was horrible, and Frontiers looks boring, but you know what? This was a breath of fresh air. More proof that they should prioritize more 2D Sonic games, it's clearly their strong suit. This game pretty much features Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles all in one game. You can either play them in the original state with borders or in widescreen, remastered. I really love how they fixed the games, adjusting the piss-poor and hard difficulty the originals had by giving you infinite lives. There's also Coins now, you get them a lot and you can use them to retry special stages (god bless that), or use them to unlock stuff in the Museum. There's also a Boss Rush option and even a Mirror Mode once you beat the game. You can play the games separately or in a complete Story Mode. You can tell some thought was put into this unlike most remakes. The games themselves are good, though they can be VERY frustrating at times, even with the lighter difficulty. The soundtrack isn't exactly remade, but it's still a Sonic Soundtrack so it doesn't miss. I also don't think this game fits its price at all, even if it is 40 dollars. I paid 45 for the Deluxe Edition and there wasn't much to be honest, it literally felt the same as the Standard Edition. It should be reduced by 10-20 and that'll definitely be a fair price. Still a solid game if you're a fan of Classic Sonic and you want something new and good from SEGA. Expand

I was very disappointed in the little changes it had brought to the consoles. It looks like more of a Port rather than a Remaster. It is still the same games I played and already owned. For the $45 Price tag for Digital Deluxe package. I felt they could have done more than a wide-screen support with digital content to an already aging game collection. Expand

The Games areFeels like a cheap cash Grab, no love put into this, had better Collections in the past with these games included and many more. The Games are worse versions of previous Versions then the originals. Sega added paid locked content for a simple collection of four Sonic Games. Took the games by themselves off digital storefronts to force people to buy this whole have no other means. If you can Get Sonic's Sega Genesis Collection or Sonic Mega and Jems Collection. ORIGINS IS Garbage. Also they took Christian Whitehead's versions of the games, destroyed them, took away features, made the games buggy and trash and took his names out of the credits which at this point it's probably better but they used his work without credit.
