It may not be the best Sonic game out there and it has it's flaws. But it is still a solid experience, if you like games such as Colors and generations.

Forces also heavily improves on Colors in dialogue and original concepts. While the writing itself is questionable, Forces manages to improve drastically over Colors in most dialogue, and the base concept of the game being a grand-scale, hopeless planetary war make it MUCH more interesting than the play-it-safe, uninspired story of Colors.

Overall, Forces is what fans of the older, more serious games have wanted for years, and while the execution isn't perfect, the game manages to one-up the game that messed up the franchise's story-telling capabilities a decade ago.

I'd say it's a very fun new adventure, I especially liked the character customization. So many options and accessories for you own character, unlocked by getting higher ranks. I also like the Wispons a lot, they put an interesting twist on the gameplay increasing the replay value, as different wispons have different paths made for them. In short, I LOVED the custom character.

I also enjoyed the story as it's dark and keeps you interested in the game, but at the same time doesn't take itself too seriously as it is a sonic game.

The Modern sonic stages were also really fun with the boost gameplay, and the boss stages were a delight to play. I don't particularly enjoy the fully 2D Classic level but they weren't bad.

My favourite modern sonic game, a lot of fun but to be honest putting classic sonic was just unnecessary. I'd love a 'sonic forces 2' type game where infinite is redeemed

After finishing the story I get to reflect back on a short, but enjoyable adventure. The general gameplay is fun and is open for anyone to play. The general gameplay is fun and is open for anyone to play. The introduction of an avatar was a better idea than I initially thought it was. The story was average at best containing very little that’s worth remembering. When the ending credits start you don’t feel as satisfied as you would want to and it feels like Sonic Team overestimated the emotional strength of their story. One particular thing that stood out was the music: It’s slightly different from what we usually get in modern Sonic games, but it works really well. The game could have used more creative level design and a few tweaks to the controls (especially with classic Sonic), but that didn’t really stop me from smiling as I boosted through the solid soundtrack! If you’re a fan of the modern Sonic games, you’ll enjoy Sonic Forces. If you’re into the Genesis stuff and solid gameplay, stick with Mania! If you’re just a fanboy... buy it! Play it! Enjoy it! I’m giving it an 8/10 simply because I PERSONALLY enjoyed the game. It was well worth the money that I threw at it and it was a fun experience overall (though I honestly do hope that Sonic Team learns and improves upon the mistakes in this game). Expand

There's no other way I can describe Sonic Forces without taking up a huge chunk of my time so I'm just going to call it the newest Windows Vista of the franchise. It's so addicting that you could possibly find a way to play to the end and end up loving it, but, like Windows Vista, it's not safe from the flaws it receives. I'm sure we'll get a better Sonic game one day, but for now we have to get used to what they gave us. Expand

Sonic forces is a good game and I really like the story. The music is also amazing. I wish there where more environments to explore and the modern sonic levels/controls need improvement. I like the custom character levels and the red rings give the game a lot of replay ability.

The gameplay is also not bad, as you have options of controlling Modern Sonic, Classic Sonic, and even your own new Custom Hero. Modern & Classic Sonic all play very similarity to how they played in generations, and the Custom Hero plays very well as well. For Modern Sonic, his stages are mostly 3D with some 2D platforming parts. (Like Colors.) And Classic Sonic handles very well like in Generations And Mania. The physics has been ever-so-slightly been improved over Generations, but again, could benefit from some improvements. The controls for the Custom Hero can feel a bit unresponsive at times but does not ruin the core gameplay. And even though I feel like this game could've been better overall, I still do recommend this game to all Platforming fans and Sonic fans. The Switch version does run at a noticeably lower framerate and resolution, however. The game is still a blast though. Definitely an 8/10 from me. Expand

Sonic Forces may have created some hype but unfortunately, it mostly falls flat on its face as it quickly becomes obvious that this game is an exercise in disappointment. While the action runs smoothly whether on a television screen or on handheld mode, the game's short and unimaginative levels, the absence of gameplay mechanics that had become a staple of 3D Sonic games, the unreliable controls and the mediocre soundtrack all add up to a very flawed game from which a lot more was expected.
