This game will punch the highlights out of your hair. It’s a hard and fast retro throwback that was revived for a very good reason. [Issue #3, p.64]

The best word to describe Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game would be “enthusiastic,” as most every corner of its surreal cartoon rendition of Toronto has a well-designed video game brawl to engage in or a cute detail to spot. Replaying old levels to grind and returning to shops for incremental upgrades keeps Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition from feeling purely linear, but it remains a focused and feisty beat’em up that successfully weathers the test of time.

A fun and thrilling classic beat 'em up that is best enjoyed with others, though a frustrating single player experience and some network issues can interrupt your good time.

I’m happy to report that just as bread still makes you fat, Scott Pilgrim continues to be the happy time sink it once was. My one gripe is that Knives, although advertised as part of the “Complete Edition,” can only be unlocked via creating an account and signing into Ubisoft Connect. So if Ubisoft ever decides to deprecate their service, Knives would basically go along with it.

All Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition had to do to keep me happy was bring back a title I’d been unable to play for nearly six years. Quite obviously it does that, but I’m shocked at just how great the game still remains, and how much of it is a true love letter to Scott Pilgrim and gaming itself. It’s not the longest or easiest experience, but it’s one that I would urge any gamer to give a go thanks to its satisfying gameplay and fantastic presentation. Don’t let it slip between your fingers this time.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition remains an excellent game. With the whole game and DLC bundled together, this is the definitive package for fans of the franchise and of beat 'em ups in general. There’s a lot to be in lesbians with here, from the stellar soundtrack to excellent moment to moment gameplay. It’s clearly an utterly unique labour of love from a talented group of people (who happen to work at Ubisoft).

It may be a little over 10 years old, but Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition remains a top-tier title for beat-'em-up fans. The changes and improvements made over the original River City Ransom formula make it a tight game that feels rich in its genre, while the presence of online play resolves the main criticism in the original title. Those who have played the game before will enjoy that it's portable on the Switch, but those coming in fresh will find this to be a gem on a system that's already flush with excellent beat-'em-ups, both past and present.

Just having this game available again makes it a 10 in terms of recommendation to anyone who felt like they missed out the first time. [Issue #51 – March/April 2021, p. 22]

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition is one of the best beat'em ups of the last decade. A great way to enjoy one of the games we thought was lost forever.

It's great to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game back in action on our consoles, and the game has aged great. It's still one of the best beat-em-up games you can find on consoles today.

Still an incredibly polished and fun beat ‘em up that has truly stood the test of time. While it’s slightly annoying that playing with the other characters requires you to replay entire levels and that the online features and a full playable fighter are currently locked behind Ubisoft’s ridiculous server sign-in, in the end this is still a great title deserving of its re-release. The combat is quick and fluid, the soundtrack is truly incredible and the multiplayer mode with friends makes the game even more fun.

As a highly addictive beat ‘em up and a great trip down the 16-bit memory lane, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World definitely deserved a chance to shine on new platforms. For a couple of days I was pretty much unable to put my Switch down. [03/2021, p.47]

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition is a marvelous beat'em-up in the brawler style, with some RPG and strategic elements thrown in the mix. Thanks to its exquisite audiovisual component and fun-packed gameplay experience, whether solo or up to four players, this full edition of a game originally released over 10 years ago gets everything right. There's a new star in the Nintendo Switch eShop catalogue.
  14. Scott, his girlfriend Ramona Flowers, his drummer and ex Kim, and lead singer Stephen Stills are back in all their retro brawler glory, and really, it’s like Ubisoft barely touched the old game. They didn’t need to.

If you’re looking for a fun trip to Toronto, this game is as solid now as it was back in 2010. Just be sure to get a few friends together for maximum enjoyment.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition is a reunion for some and a brand new experience for others. However, no matter when you play this game, you are guaranteed to have a great time. The beat ’em systems are a product of their time, but they still fit in with modern genre entries. This is a game best played over an evening with a group of friends, no matter if you have a relationship with the franchise or not. Here’s to another 10 years of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.

No new features but still one of the most entertaining beat 'em up ever made. If you loved Streets of Rage 4 and River City Girls, this must be your next game of choice.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition is a magnificent title that pays homage to the classic beat'em up games with a lot of humor and that is tremendously entertaining and fun, especially in company.

10 years after its original release, Scott Pilgrim vs The World is still a great "retro" brawler, full of pop culture references, and incredibly fun in multiplayer (local or online, coop or versus) up to 4 players.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was a Beat'em Up classic in 2010, and the Beat'em Up hasn't aged a bit over the past decade. The Complete Edition is generous in content, inspires fans of the genre to outdo themselves in a full-bodied experience, and remains punchy with its extremely well-thought-out combat system.

There may be no new content besides the previous DLC being included, but Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game - Complete Edition takes what was already a really fun beat 'em up and makes it all the more accessible to a whole new generation of gamers.

If you, like me, loved River City Girls in 2019 and Streets of Rage 4 in 2020, and have maybe enjoyed the modern side-scrolling likes of 99 Vidas and Fight'N Rage, too, then even if you never played this one a decade ago, you need to be playing it now. And if you did play it back then, you already know whether or not you're grabbing this in 2020 2021 (haha), and all of these words haven't made a damn bit of difference.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition is the definitive edition of the great 2010 tie-in. It is an excellent 2D beat 'em up that pays homage to the great classics of the genre and that can give players dozens of hours of fun both alone and with friends.

Those of you looking for the next Castle Crashers or Streets of Rage need look no further, as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition is a great beat ‘em up for your Switch. Bombastic presentation and crunchy combat gameplay make this one enjoyable from start to finish. Though it can feel like it runs a bit short and the difficulty spikes can be rather intense, we’d give this one a strong recommendation to anybody looking for a fun, short game to play in co-op. Let's just hope it sticks around for longer than four years this time.

In short, it could be the ideal opportunity for a nice reunion of Sex Bob-omb (for the uninitiated, Scott Pilgrim's indie rock band).

If you're a fan of the character or of beat 'em ups and pop culture in general who didn't have a chance to try this title, this is your second chance, and one that must not be wasted.

As fun as it was 10 years ago. Scott Pilgrim is a true tribute to the genre of beat 'em up games and it is especially recommended to be enjoyed cooperatively with friends or family. We miss some new features beyond the 2 DLC that are included, but it's still fun. Hopefully this re-launch will be the beginning of more games based on the license.

With colorful characters, amazing music, and liberal references to classic games, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition has a lot going for it, but players who don't already have an attachment to the Scott Pilgrim franchise may not be impressed with its sluggishness and the little issues that remain from the original release.
  31. Don't miss out! Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game is a great beat 'em up game, although some of the mechanics are a bit old fashioned.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition is certainly an original scrolling fighting game, thanks to the reference imagery. However, games like Battletoads and Streets of Rage 4 have proved that the genre has evolved a lot in the past ten years, while the gameplay built by Ubisoft does not always shine or work at its best.

Overall, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition is a difficult, grindy play that ends up being ultimately enjoyable thanks to its combat and style. Fans of the source material have no doubt already bought it and are enjoying the hell out of it, and anyone else who enjoys a good old-fashioned brawler with plenty of style should check it out as well.

The game's steep difficulty might turn off some players, but it's also quite rewarding. Ubisoft created a faithful take on Bryan Lee O'Malley's world, and it's great that a much bigger audience will finally get the chance to experience it. With its incredible presentation, gorgeous soundtrack, and fantastic sense of style, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game - Complete Edition channels the heart of its source material in a way few adaptations have managed.

Despite my issues with several elements here, I can’t help but feel fondness for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World – Complete Edition. I absolutely never expected this game to make a comeback. And even though there are issues that still need addressing and fixing, I feel this is a game fans will still enjoy. Hopefully, Ubisoft takes the time to make some positive changes. If they do, this will go from an average game with amazing ideas to a truly great game. And honestly, I feel that’s what fans deserve after so very long.

If you remember the Scott Pilgrim game, this is it. The 2010 game on your Switch. No more, no less. Improvements that could have and perhaps should have been made are not part of the package. If Scott Pilgrim is new to you, this is a competent, energetic River City Ransom-inspired beat-em-up with a memorable, charming presentation and enough secrets and Easter Eggs to keep you invested for a while. There are better brawlers on the Switch, but none of those will let you beat up a telekinetic vegan until he explodes into a pile of Toonies. That’s worth a couple of points at least.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game holds up today really well in some aspects (visual design and music), but is still held back by its shortcomings over a decade ago (difficult in the beginning, even on the easiest mode; level up system is still too vague). But when you can look past the setbacks, it’s still a solid action game that’s made even more fun if you can get some friends on the couch to play with you. Let’s hope the game doesn’t get obliterated from every digital store in a few years like it did last time...

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game returns, and while it has flashes of fun, it sometimes struggles to feel up to date, even as a remaster.

Scott Pilgrim doesn’t have the same attention-grabbing appeal to the modern blockbusters and with many people still fresh to the winter’s big titles thanks to getting them as Christmas pressies I worry that the early January release may fall flat. However for those looking to revisit this game, people with fond memories of a cult classic, they’ll find it a joy still to play and well worth a look. It plays brilliantly, has a really tough challenge to the gameplay and still inhabits all that charm and uniqueness you remember.
