Single player review - Risk as a board-game is a popular game worldwide, and now you can play it on the way and without unboxing everything so that is a good thing. The hologram style is nicely done and overall playing one game is exiting, the game is worth those €20,00 but that's about it. I have to compare this Risk to the computer-version Risk II from the year 2000 (!), and I have to conclude that there is an absence of game modes, playing rules and multiple soundtracks. In Risk II you could play with 8 players, and there was a game-mode called "same time" in which players choose their attacks simultaneously and get battles with multiple fronts and have border-battles. You also have the option to include some islands like Hawaii (link between Japan and East America) and New Zealand. In the options menu of Risk II you could also set the value of cards, distribution of territories by auction and winning by occupying a percentage of the world map instead of 100% world domination. And last but not least there was a "tournament" mode which could be seen as a basic campaign mode... My point is that a game from the year 2000 has all this extra game-variables, while this new Switch game has almost none of this, and I think this is a missed opportunity. The game has great graphics and a nice futuristic theme but as a game it's really BASIC. And I think, when you publish a digital version of a boardgame, there should be some extra variables in expend of the boardgame and it should at least have a campaign mode. The AI is average and has 3 modes, balanced, defensive and agressive. The balanced AI goes further with invading than most people would do but is furthermore tactical enough to invade one area to disturb others from having whole continents so that player get less troops next round, playing agains AI is challenging enough for the average player. I had higher expectations of this, but playing this basic game is still a nice thrill. It will most likely not be the case, but an extention of this game would be welcome. Expand

The conquest of the planet was never so portable. Although the content is basic, RISK is the perfect choice for lovers of classic strategy both to play with friends and alone.

Taking one of the world's most famous board games and converting it into a Nintendo Switch game could be a remarkable effort if it worked. Unfortunately that's not the case with this version of Risk. Everything that makes the original so entertaining and unforgettable is absent from this adaptation which, while mechanically competent, falls short at delivering in every other aspect which made Risk such a big name to begin with.
