There are so many trainers you battle, that there’s no shortage there. There’s a lot more that was taken from GO, and I have to say, I’m liking it a lot! It’s the beginning of a new era in the Pokemon series, and there might be some initial resistance, but I think it will win over many people in the end. I admit I was wanting to give it a low rating yesterday, as I sometimes struggle with change, but I’m glad I held off and gave it another chance. Expand

I wouldn’t listen to the negative reviews about this game. The Pokémon fan base has become so toxic over the past few years that they set out to destroy this game before it was even released because “hardcore mechanics” were removed. I would highly recommend this title to fans of the series who are willing to accept that Game Freak and Nintendo set out to make a much more casual experience for the latest Kanto revisit. Online battles can satisfy the players seeking some competition. The game looks crisp, however it doesn’t push the switch to it graphical limits, and some areas suffer from frame rate dips. This is a great way to fill the console Pokémon void until generation 8 arrives in 2019. Expand

Lots of fun to explore Kanto again with my trusted companions at my side. I really love the details of how each pokemon follows (or leads) you around when let out of their ball. The new capture mechanics make so much more sense rather than leaving a trail of dead pokemon in your wake. I think it's against the core nature of the game, but maybe.

Overall I really love this game, and my kids love it too. In a lot of ways I think this is how pokemon always should have been. I hope to get more Lets Go games for other generations.

Feel the need to write a review here because of all the zeros, which the game absolutely does not deserve.

First off, I think many fail to realize that this game was meant to be a different Pokemon game, and in that respect it shines. Having some concerns myself before the game was released, I was pleasantly surprised, the game is much more fun than myself and many of my friends anticipated, and it really knows how to immerse yourself in the game world. The world has never felt more alive, and the graphics while nothing next gen, are clean and bright in their own right. Performance is great in TV mode while handheld exhibits a few oddities, but nothing severe, and it's definitely playable and rare.

Catching Pokemon was a big concern for many, but I'd be lying if i said I didn't prefer this to pushing a button over and over with no effort on my part to try and do a good catch. No wild battles is actually a lot less of an issue than I thought as well, there are plenty of trainer battles, and without all the wild battles it actually makes battles feel more meaningful. Which brings me to my next point, having overworld encounters instead of random grass encounters is an absolute game changer. I never want to go back to a random encounter system, being able to see the Pokemon you encounter and actually run away from them real time, is something I would very much dislike if the series did not carry forward. A capture mechanic similar to this also helps the game become more dynamic, as you can encounter evolved forms of Pokemon that were previously absent from the game, locked to different areas because catching them was too easy.

The difficulty of the games has very much been understated. There are ways to grind your Pokemon or feed them candies to make them stronger, but permitting you want the game to be difficult, and do not feed them candy and go through the game normally, you will run into some trouble spots. Your starter has many versatile moves at their disposal and is very strong, so if you want some extra difficulty, I would recommend not using it as well. With the absence of passive EV gain, this becomes one of the more difficult games as your Pokemon are not automatically stronger than any trainers you encounter, sometimes being weaker or right on par with them.

Gym's will sometimes require you to meet a certain requirement to enter, but this has also been blown out of proportion, the very first gym requires you to know about type matchups. The second gym requires you to meet a level requirement (which is below the gym leaders level) and the rest of the gyms don't require any sort of advantage requirement, one Gym's requirement is that you have to have a cute Pokemon to enter, the game holds your hand much less than the previous entry in the series, Sun and Moon.

Abilities and hold items are absent, but I didn't see this as much of an issue, and contrary to what some are saying, this can actually increase difficulty. Many Pokemon trainers in the previous entries would never make their Pokemon hold items, so yours was at an advantage at all times if holding an item. This returns to a simpler time of Pokemon, one where battling at its core was choosing your team and the moves, and that was it. While I would like abilities and items in the future, this was actually a breath of fresh air.

In short, while Kanto has been remade and revisited before, the added story beats, character interactions, overworld encounters and more really help the game feel more alive than it ever has before. This is in a very real sense, a full return to Pokemon Yellow, with many of it's quirks, and strengths of the original games in place. The game has a lot of heart, and despite it's flaws, it has to be one of my favorite Pokemon games in the last 10 years, the positives far outweight the negatives here, and I hope the series see's more creativity and solid direction as this game did.

While it may not be ground breaking, it is a solid release and a good entry point into the franchise. The use of the Go mechanics freshen up what had become monotonous battling in caves, which I think is a fantastic quality of life addition.

It didn't matter that it was very much geared towards kids of this generation. What mattered is that it was Pokémon. I maintained that thought process through the reveals, always sharing them with my seven year old son. I can't tell you how moved I was when he realized he could put Psyduck in the Pokeball and take it for a walk with him.

We waited, patiently for the day that it came out. We stood outside GameStop for nearly two hours, just to make sure we got our copy as soon as possible. And we've both been so happy. We've been playing it non-stop, except to go for walks with Psyduck!

The mechanics are simpler. Feed a berry, throw a ball. It's not complicated. This is actually good in my opinion. I could try and explain IVs/EVs and stuff to my son, and he wouldn't understand it now. What he does understand is "That's a big Psyduck", and "That Psyduck has a blue number for speed so that means it's faster!" Simple. Easy. Clear. It's a good way to ease the newer generation into a franchise that's been going since we were kids.

There's enough new things to keep it exciting while being nostalgic (at least in my opinion).

I get that a lot of people have reviewed this game and given it a negative score because it's a "dumbed down" version of Yellow. But think about it from a younger child's perspective, and remember that this IS a kid game. It was advertised as being a kid game.

Go back to when you were a kid and none of those things mattered. None of them existed. Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee is this generations Blue/Red/Yellow. Think of it from that angle and you'll realize why this game is so amazing.

If you read some of the reviews that people have left a lot of them don't even make sense. There are a FEW low rating that seem like they have taken the time to actually play, but remember the keyword is a FEW. I think this is another case of people bombing a game because the developers took the game in a different direction then what they felt entitled too.

I really like the way you have to catch Pokemon now, by actually throwing the Pokeball just like Pokemon go. This game is not for everyone but coming from a veteran who has played every Pokemon game created I really enjoy the game's simple feeling but I still get to relive my childhood. This review bombing is the reason why Metacritic is a horrible site. It seems like lately whenever game devs take a series in a different direction a huge fit must be thrown

It seems you gain a lot less exp than in previous games, either that or the bar moves slower (can't figure it out), but it took me a while to level up and get some of my pokemon to evolve. But other than that, I don't really see a flaw. The ordinary battle system will come back in the next game next year. It is not gone for good. The art style is exactly what I expected it to be, bright, colorful and cartoony.

The story and dialogue is fine and what I'd expect from pokemon.

New way to catch pokemon, while I can think of a few improvements, is fun.

My biggest critique, and why it's only a 8/10, is sometimes the controls are just awkward to use. While not in handheld, using just one controller is just something that I am not used to and makes me a little restless with my unused hand.

I think a lot of bad reviews are coming from people who expected a new generation of pokemon and would not be happy with anything less. If you look at this game for what it is, a remake of the original, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I was only looking for a Rattata for a trade as well!

This is not a representation of what is coming in Gen 8 this is bonus game for us to all look back on what has gone before and maybe few hints of what's to come? Or maybe not since Junichi Masusa is not directing Pokemon 2019 so who knows!?

The game is no more easy or hard than gen 1 itself. I'm finding a few tough trainers dotted about. Gym requirements are not a big deal you unlock them while you know playing the game? You CAN still make it a challenge as well.
I'm not keen on how OP your starter is BUT you don't have to keep them in your party anyway so set your own level of challenge.

Meltan isn't that hard to get and Mew while I agree making it available only with the Pokeball for now) will probably be an event for everyone in the coming months once things have settled down.

The fact is that you want to find things to dislike and hate you will find them but really? Life's too short guys!
I really don't understand the entitled fans who are bashing it and leaving 0s just because it's not what they wanted. You have Gen 8 coming next year but I'm sure you'll find something to whine about with that as well because 2018.

Overall after putting 20 or so hours in so far Let's Go is a cute, fun and charming game that I'd love to see develop into its own thing to tide us over between generations.

It's a charming, attractive and lighthearted take on the first generation. The presentation has never been this good, and while the new mechanics take some getting used to, it ended up feeling more familiar than I expected. Some control issues aside, this shocked me in feeling like the definitive Kanto experience. While some prior content is sorely absent, other features we've spent years longing for make a better than ever return. It's a welcome diversion on the road to gen 8, and many fans even hope that some of the developments here end up carrying over to the next more competitive game.

Okay, so I get that the games might be a bit on the disappointing side, especially with how lazy some parts of the game feels like; but at the same time I truly feel like the games have loads and loads of love and passion poured into them, they're supposed to be great games and they truly are to a certain point but afterwards it kind of dwindles down into "eh, I've seen this two hundredOkay, so I get that the games might be a bit on the disappointing side, especially with how lazy some parts of the game feels like; but at the same time I truly feel like the games have loads and loads of love and passion poured into them, they're supposed to be great games and they truly are to a certain point but afterwards it kind of dwindles down into "eh, I've seen this two hundred times already" and it kind of gets stale.

The reviewers that rated it a 0 or a 1 or even a 2 were indeed immature by being so negative about it, though I do get that it feels like a slap across the face for them; look on **** board /vp/, they're very... 'passionate' about Pokemon. But come on, it is just a bit childish to hate on an otherwise beautiful game just for the sake of making it look bad.

I myself haven't played the games but I've seen enough footage from livestreams and playthroughs to know that Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are not games for me, nor will they ever be because they do not appeal to me.
However, though I am of the opinion they are a bit lacklustre when it comes to how the experience feels, as I don't feel wowed, just mildly entertained and at that point the grinding for Pokemon just feels tedious when there's no thrill of battle. But truly, the games are gorgeously crafted, the remade soundtracks are amazing and you can really see they tried their best to stick to their plan and made an easy to pick up game for kids to enjoy and get into with a cutesie artstyle and everything with it.

    So to conclude my statement;
While the game does deserve it's criticism for lacking in various important areas such as replayability, thrill management and depth of the game, it doesn't deserve the beatdown it is getting for it is still a stunningly gorgeous game carefully crafted with lots of time, effort, passion and especially a lot of love for Pokemon and that is where the game truly shines.

It is easily worth a solid 14 out of 10 for how beautiful it is, though it does deserve a critical 4 out of 10 for the fact it'll be lacklustre after 14 to 17 hours of the game.

Is it worth the 60 euro price tag? Not so much.
Is it still worth trying out at a cheaper price if you want to? Definitely.

The game itself isn't that bad in my opinion, its a cut out of the Red Blue and Yellow Generation or Gen 1 if you will. The gameplay mechanics are not like the original however, they did change the process of battling as if you might have already heard, wild encounters are now only able to catch pokemon. you cant battle wild pokemon. I don't view that as a bad thing. one of the things I didn't like in the original pokemon games was the random encounters, especially in digletts cave. all it did was weaken my starter and use my money on a lot of repels. so that didn't bother me that much. so in this game, you level up your pokemon by catching pokemon, it's a bit different but the grind is still there.

Another thing people knock this game for is the difficulty. What is the point of knocking a game for difficulty if its a remake of a game you played as a kid 20 years ago? of course you are gonna know what to do. Not only do you have trainers waiting to battle you, but they have also incorporated Ace and coach trainers that do put up a good fight.

HMs such as cut and fly were also removed. I don't view that as a bad thing either, all it did was take up a "move slot". Fishing was removed although I rarely fished so it didn't bother me.

The Pokemon go incorporation and catching mechanics is something I liked. I was able to transfer my pokemon to my game no problems and catching pokemon with the pokeball controller was cool. You could take a pokemon with you and walk around with it and it can level up similar to the pokewalker accessory used in the prior games.

The only thing I don't like about the game is the weird gym requirements. the first gym with Brock you have to have a Grass or water pokemon in your party. It doesn't force you to use them. I don't see the point in that.

Over 20 years, Pokémon has been one of the series that make fans to enjoy new adventures. There are a lot of things that make Pokémon the huge success that it is. However, it seems that in Pokémon Let's Go everything was lost.

Over 20 years, Pokémon has been one of the series that make fans to enjoy new adventures. There are a lot of things that make Pokémon the huge success that it is. However, it seems that in Pokémon Let's Go everything was lost.

1°: The addition of grass in the overworld is pointless. Pokémons can come and by and you don't even need to walk on the grass to trigger an encounter.

2°: There is no Pokémon reward anymore. In order to get some Pokémons, you either have them in your team and train them until they could evolve by level up or by stone effect or you could spend some time searching around until you could find a very rare final evolution of such Pokémon. Now it is pointless as when you walk into the Mt. Moon and you just need to wait until a Clefable spawn or having a Butterfree spawning by your side at Veridian Forest.

3°: I get the 150 ones... But how could they exclude the whole bunch of evolutions and pre evolutions of Kantonian Pokémons found in generations ahead? It is another pointless thing for me. The game simply ignored all the evolutions of pokémons. Instead, they added Alolan forms and Mega forms. Kanto should have their updated pokedex with their 184 Pokémons.

4°: Pokémon appearing in the wild is very cool, but it causes a lag in the game. There are moments when the frame rate drops and this is due the appearing of the pokémons.

5°: The controls were terribly planned. The could let people play in the TV by the use of both joycons or pro controller. However, they force you to choose either traditional way [handheld] or with movement controls. In addition, it is disturbing because in every game, the movement control is in the left hand and the options is in the right hand. Now they force you to choose either playing with right hand or left hand. They could leave the option of playing with both joycons as if it were on handheld mode.

6°: The pokeball plus. It is bad having access to one of the pokémons by just buying a peripheral. Bu the problem is because this peripheral can't be used in any other game.

7°: The game is repetitive and does not have the replay fact. By the middle of the game, you get tired of so much battles and the lack of a catching story. You play just for playing... This could have been improved in this remake. Yet, everything was made equally in the yellow version.

8°: The game is simply easier and difficultly pokémon would have achieved its huge success if it was like this. The game turned back to everything that make it great. The playing mode in the game should have come in a "easy mode" where players could choose to play in a easy one or in a traditional one.

9°: Battles with friends is fun, but again pointless as the surprise factor and training factor don't interfere anymore. Battles were a complicated fact in pokémon core series as it demands a lot of time and lots of combinations to make everything perfect for a battle.

10°: Why removing the buying factor? What is the point of having pokéballs all the time? You can find a pack of 5 in the overworld, you can earn as reward and you can buy them for just 100$. It is like having infinite pokeballs.

I could go on and on... But I won't... The game change bad aspects of previous ones... But what we want is not make change everything and erased all the concepts, instead we want things to build up. In this past 20 years, we have seen how pokémon storage have been changed, for instance... This updates does not change the game, but make improvements which are well accepted... What Pokémon Let's Go did was basically ignore all the things the series have been loyal for over 20 years.

The only frame rate slow down that i have noticed was in an area that you are not in for long. The game is very faithful to Pokemon Yellow, as it is intended to be. I see a lot of complaints about the "removal" of some features. They were not removed, this is a Gen 1 game. Those features were not in Gen 1. If you like the Gen 1 games, you will enjoy this game. If you are new to the mainline Pokemon games, you will enjoy these games. If you were expecting Gen 7 in Kanto, then you may be disappointed. Don't listen to all the negative reviews people. They are either 4 Chan or people hurt about Blizzard making a mobile Diablo game. The game is actually really good. It gives young child a chance to enjoy the original Pokémon games. It also gives a nice spin on the games, i. e. Riding on any Pokémon that is big enough, avoiding the annoying Zubats in caves, and having your starter on your head.

Nintendo has already announced another Pokemon game which will be the 8th gen and will be a core Pokemon game and more than likely will be more polished and have better graphics (not that Let's Go has bad graphics or isn't polished, just that it doesn't seem like this is the best that the Switch can do). But the game can still be enjoyed by longtime fans and still has a bunch of new stuff. The game also lets you interact with your Pokemon more than ever. You can dress up your Pikachu or Eevee, play with them, feed them berries, teach them tricks, etc and you can ride an Onix or other big Pokemon for better/more transportation. Catching wild Pokemon is a bit easier now because it uses a similar system as Pokemon Go. Which I liked most of the time because it could be a lot faster so that you don't have to waste a ton of time just to catch a Pidgey or something, but there are some Pokemon you catch that you do have to battle. The game is a fresh new way to experience Pokemon and for you that don't like it as much, just remember that we'll be getting a core game next year. Expand

Back to basics Pokemon game, adds lots of fun features and mechanics that I'm sure will make it into the next game. Enjoyable to go back to Kanto, can't wait for the new game next year! Also, for those saying it is way too easy, maybe try getting past the first 2-3 gyms? Difficulty ramps up near the mid-end game, pretty enjoyable as long as you don't double battle the entire game.

I think they added far too much from Pokemon Go, and not enough from the main series, but I understand that this is a temporary casual game to hold us over for the next main line title. I can even get over having to use your joy con to toss the pokeball. But I think this games main crux is the inability to battle wild pokemon to weaken them for capture. I knew that it was going to take some getting used to, but it's just wrong. Oak is now a dick by making a joke about forgetting his grandson's name, "Trace" is a poor man's Hat and Green put together (and I hated Hau personally), Green is back for some reason and they changed him too much for that point in his development, and nothing has been improved. There are no more held items nor Abilities (which FireRed and LeafGreen had), the new moves are laughably bad (like the infamous Baddy Bad), the over reliance on charm means every other aspects were overlooked, and I personally did not like the Go mechanics from the ground up, even though that was also a mess in general.

Did this game do good things? Sure. The Master Trainers are a neat idea (though I feel they went overboard with every single Pokémon having one, meaning for the most part you have to stop them from evolving and feed them candies for the postgame), Blue being canon is nice though ultimately unnecessary, rematching the Gym Leaders is cool (even though it's not the first game to do so), and I guess the Pokémon following you again was nice (though not a deal maker/breaker for me). But those positives are vastly outclassed by negatives that are a lot more essential in a game. The controls barely work, but hey look at that Pikachu's clothes! It's just hiding your head in the sand.

Firstly let's say this is a main series (as pokemon has been saying) and not core (i.e. RBYG to USUM and the games in between) games. If this spawns a series of let's go games, creating it's own separate thing than whatever. However the craze of pokemon go has largely died down since 2016, although the game still as just over 2million active users, it seems odd that pokemon company has even bothered to draw these players closer to the core series via this weird hybrid of the two. Not stating this without reason, the core series consistently sell over 10million, with exception to installments like emerald, crystal, platinum (that sell over 5million). Total core series sales is just under 230 million units. The begining of the last generation; Pokemon sun and moon sold over 16million. Making an attempt to add 2million Go players at least seems to be pointless, as if they had any interest in the core series they would have already picked one up or stayed with it. So kinda seems like a waste of time to make these games, objectively. But let's go over the games

What are the positive aspects of this game:
    1. It looks nice; the art direction is HD for the most part so nothing to complain about to much*(N.B on the much part)

    2. It is super easy; if you have a child who is a recent fan of pokemon go, then this is a good start i guess, and a start in which many players began 20+yrs ago.

    3. Pokemon walk around with you; this was a feature in Heart Gold and Soul SIlver back on the DS system (however that included around 450ish pokemon, just a bit less than that), it's nice to see your partners mostly to scale behind you

    4. If your a new commer the game only includes the first 151ish pokemon, so completing the pokedex isn't as intimidating as a task as it is in the newer games with over 800 pokemon. For old first generation fans returning to the franchise it is also nice for the same reason.

    Negative aspects of these games:
    1. this game costs $60 USA ($80 AUS, if like me you live in Australia); ok so normal price yeah, the games on the handeld lines where about $50is only a $10 increase. yup a $10 increase for a game that has 80% less content. oh boi.

    2. Mew is behind a pay wall; i hate microtransaction, lootboxes, you name it. DLC i don't mind as long as it is worth the price, i.e. witcher 3 DLCs absolutely worth the price, Breath of the wild, yup sure worth the low price, you get it good quality extra content for a fair price, most of the DLC i enjoy are ones in which i feel like i don't need them to have a full experience. SO what does this have to do with Mew, well mew is 1 of the original pokemon and has a lot of lore and fan love, so what do they do, the slap that **** behind a $50USA ($70 AUS) controller that is not needed to play the game and is only used for a gimmick. They also want it to be the only way to get mew, as you can't transfer your mew from Pokemon go to these games.

    3. 80% less content compared to core: like i said before this is not worth the money. This game only includes 151 of 8010ish pokemon in the franchise, removes held items, abilities, EV's, anything competative. Removes wild battles for GO's simple capture. This doesn't work, the motion control are inconsistent and you have to use them, it **** wth leveling. People for this complain about core series, "RNG" system of battling and weakening pokemon (which by the way is not slow, annoying or grindy, cause it has many methods to increase your odds of catching pokemon and if your tired of running into pokemon just use a god dam repel, you have access to them form the start of the game), however this supposed better system is so so much worse; wild pokemon can just spawn at your feet (one top of another pokemon, why is this a thing) they glog the overworld (just try using any rideable pokemon you hop of them at any ledge or inconvienience), catching pokemon gives you more exp that trainer battles (which is dumb) meaning to level up your box will be inevietably filled with hundreds of pidgey's.

4.This game is so easy. Every trainer or rival, gym leader or bad guy never has more 4 pokemon or even 2, they force you to enter gyms with a requirement that makes it easier, your partner literally has a broken movepool and can solorun, stats and moves are broken, and you can use the other joycon to go 2player and effectively tag team 2v1 anyone, all the critic reviews or people saying this is hard, are **** at pokemon and videogames.

    5. This game has sudden frame drops (how? like how?), the shadows are still pixelated (why? this is a switch that can run Doom with decent fedelity and frames), the art style is booring, so are the characters, they introduce meltan just cause (mythical for the sake of being mythical) to enitce people to buy it for complete pokedex's. The music is eh, heard better fan remix's.

This game is only worth $20. Wait till this goes on sale

You can see Pokémon in the wild without having to engage in multiple random battles hoping to see the one you’re looking for, yet you cannot battle them -nor make eggs to breed your own (the egg breeding system has been removed). The experience sharing is surprisingly perfectly balanced, yet 90% of the battles with trainers end up being a “press A to win” fest, removing any kind of strategical thinking whatsoever present in previous titles, which is made worse by the fact that 95% of the trainers never have more than three Pokémon to use in battles and they are almost always repeated in set of three of the same species, making it even easier to win by spamming the same move without even having to think. On top of that, the day/night cycle is gone, along with weather changes and abilities. Pokémon can no longer even hold items and berries.

The game has the best graphics ever seen by the series as a whole, and that’s pretty much the only thing it has going for it. It’s really pretty to look at, but reveals itself to be an extremely linear (much more so than previous games) experience from beginning to end, lacking a lot of the complex game mechanics we’ve come to know and learn throughout the years. On top of that, the game presents some truly idiotic game design choices which I find absolutely baffling in a 2018 title. Gone are all the quality of life changes we’ve come to love from Sun and Moon. Every single action requires you to navigate a menu and manually select whatever action you want to take: for example, if you choose to ride your Charizard, you’ll have to open the menu, select team, then make charizard follow you. This makes you go pretty fast, but also makes you unable to interact with anything on the ground or surmount certain obstacles. It would be great if you could just press a button to dismount charizard in a matter of 1 or two seconds, yet, you are required to open the menu again, select team and select another Pokémon to follow you, which makes Charizard go back into his pokeball and consequently enabling you to interact once again with the environment. A simple action that should take 2 seconds at best takes now 10 seconds because of idiotic and archaic game design, which again, after seeing all the improvements made from previous games, simply baffles me.

Let’s go can be seen as perfect remake of Yellow, throwing 20 years of improvements in the trash and going back to lacking every single thing that Yellow also lacked. Don’t forget that Pokémon Yellow came out in the 90s, though, while Let’s Go came out in 2018. There simply exist no justification for all the things missing in this game. Will it hit your nostalgia hard? Sure, it will. Some of the moments you’ll be presented with will have a chance to make you tear up, depending on how much you loved and grew up with the original game. Once those moments are gone though, you’ll realize how shallow and hollow this game really is, making the original from the 90s seem at times more feature packed and thought out than this one.

Let’s Go comes with a lot of shortcomings. Whether you’ll be able to get past them is up to you and your love of the series. OG fans like me will surely give it a try, but not doubt, they’ll end up being disappointed. Sad to say, but this is not a Pokémon game to be taken seriously, and it angers me that Kanto was chosen to be the protagonist of this half assed, lazy “remake”. I can only hope they will learn the lesson for the eventual Let’s Go Gold and Silver.

The argument that this game makes Pokemon more accessible is utterly and completely flawed - Pokemon games were designed for kids, and kids aren't stupid. By removing anything that might be considered challenging (safari zone, bikes, battling wild POKEMON, ect) they have found a away to make yet-another-re-make with a new and worse twist. I was surprised to see how much fun it was. Things that I had found bad, like the end of the random battles, proved much better than I had expected. I watched on TV all my life around me and even the pokéball pitch that I had condemned so much in the end was fun. I played with him for wanting to play and I got infected. I saw how wrong I was to have judged a game, only by a few traillers, condemning the changes, without even experiencing them. I was captivated by the game. I had fun in a Pokémon game, something that had not happened for years, since there was no fun in the others, which were more centered, so to speak. Let's Go Pikachu was a fun experience and decides to buy the Eevee version, as I found the Eevee cute and got the female with the heart-shaped spot on the tail. Me and my boyfriend happened to switch pokémons, because of the exclusive versions. All I have to say is: Those who are undecided or who condemned the game, give it a chance. But a real chance. The game is fun and exciting. Besides the graphics are beautiful and the music is wonderful. There were minor changes in the events, which made it even better. I never imagined, a few months ago, that I would be praising a game I had condemned. But here I am, defending Let's Go and recommending to my friends. Expand

Expand

The last one was very annoying in the past games, since everytime you go into a cave it takes us a lot of time to go out without a bunch of repels. However, Game Freak could have absorbed another cool feature form pokemon go other than the capture mode. For instance, every city on the game has a light pole. How great would it be if the time passes and we've had afternoon and night during the game, requiring us to look for shelter, make a campfire and so on? Also the rain, basically things influencing the weather and causing surprises during the game. It would be amazing and less repetitive. Looking forward to improvements on Pokemon 2019. Expand

Awful. This is another game that just revisits kanto for the 5th time while making the game have less content than the remakes of gen 1, firered and leafgreen. So many pokemon are cut so you are left with the original 151 and a new pokemon only transferable from the mobile game, Meltan. You cannot capture them all without buying a $50 controller that will barely work outside of pokemon,Awful. This is another game that just revisits kanto for the 5th time while making the game have less content than the remakes of gen 1, firered and leafgreen. So many pokemon are cut so you are left with the original 151 and a new pokemon only transferable from the mobile game, Meltan. You cannot capture them all without buying a $50 controller that will barely work outside of pokemon, making this game effectively $100 if you buy the game + ball deal. The main game is offensively boring and way too easy. A game being easy can be seen as a selling point, but this game takes it too far and makes every battle require no thought. You are always over leveled because every caught pokemon levels up everyone in the party and cannot be toggled off like the exp share in sun&moon. Even if you tried to do a self set challenge, the game even tries to stop you from doing that because gyms now have requirements to enter, such as forcing you to have a pokemon of the type effective against the gym, have enough different pokemon caught, or have a pokemon be 3 levels higher than the gym leaders pokemon. There are also stat candies which raise the stats of pokemon up by a whopping 200 extra. This would have been a good optionial addition for players who wanted the game to be easy, but the game was balanced without these in mind and thus make them completely useless to those who wanted a challenge, and the players who do like to minmax just turns the game into a one hit ko fest. The post game is also lacking in content. There is no battle frontier or battle tower, or even the battle maison. Just master trainers, who are barely even trainers because they have only one pokemon that is the same as yours and the battle requires no thought, just leveling that pokemon up and feeding lots of candies is the only effective strategy.

As for presentation, the graphics aren't great and has very little performance issues, but should not be a deal breaker reason. The music is surprisingly very lackluster, since every song has no kick to it. Most of it is remixes to music we have heard before, but there are no standout instruments to each track. Good for overworld and peaceful music, but terrible for battle themes.

And the major game design choices made are poorly executed. Pokemon being in the overworld is a good change, but it ruins the urgency of finding the exit of a cave or dungeon to prevent your team from being weakened, because there is no incentive other than to be done with the game quicker. With encounters being easily avoidable, preparation for a cave/dungeon isn't necessary at all. A change could have been made so pokemon fight you in these areas. As for the new catching mechanics, party wide exp and motion controls should not be forced. For some stupid reason, the motion controls cannot be disabled in docked mode. The 2 player mode is also poorly implemented. You get to travel with a friend in the overworld, but the second player cannot do anything but walk around with them. This also created a problem with the difficulty again, making no trainer be fun since everything would die in 1 turn.

The game is marketed at those who have nostalgia for kanto and very VERY young children as a way to ease them into other games, yet hold their hand way too much and do nothing to prepare them properly at all for an already easy series due to the different mechanics and play style the game wants you to go for.

Overall, the game has poorly executed ideas and suffers immensely from a difficulty level being toned down way too much even when trying your hardest to implement your own challenges. A very easy platformer like kirby can be enjoyable because of the many different ways you can play around with the mechanics. A turn based rpg cannot work when even the dumbest of decisions wont kill you. The original games could be beaten by many as a child, so why is there a need to change it to be the level of easiness there is now? Very boring, lacking in content, and would be best to wait and see how the next pokemon game comes out, or buy the many other, and better rpgs on the switch.

Yellow was my first game when I was a kid, and I have played every generation of pokemon since, and this is the coolestthing to come out since ORAS in 2014. To start of it is an obvious gen 1 remake which we already got second putting in that format will have many people having questions about this game and it is important that you give them that response however what we got is a boring spinoff that has no challenge and removes wild battles, abilities, breeding, and much more which core pokemon games had. And since this is targeted towards kids it will make it sell better right? wrong nintendo did that with the wii u and guess what it had very weak sales and the console was weak compared to the xbox one and ps4 and seeing how super smash bros ultimate shows all the details sakurai has worked through and with promising gameplay buy that instead. besides this game has the most laughable graphics I've ever seen while the pokemon is on point same can't be said with the main characters and npcs but people wil defend this game by saying well what's wrong of it's chibi? freakin sun and moon and it's sequel showed actual models of the humans and that is a huge step forward for the 3ds while it held your hand it still had the core features it's post game content was somewhat alright and there was some challenges. here this game holds your hand a lot it tells you which pokemon to catch and what level your pokemon need to be in order to pass the gym what the heck whatever happened to freedom of catching them leveling them after battles it just makes the game even more easier than it already is. Plus this game doesn't have post game content even oras had the delta episodes and that was amazing this game has master trainers which is honestly a joke. plus why cant i play this game with two joy cons besides handheld mode come on and the pokeball plus is not worth it at all .

In conclusion, despite being a spinoff this game has the least effort put in to the game, it has less of the main pokemon appeal, it is very easy, and getting mew frim the useless peripheral is just not right since mew is supposed to be rare not something that can be obtained immediately. plus this game needs more pokemon, firered and leadgreen can allow you to catch gen 2-3 pokemon and even gen 2 allows you to go back to gen 1 which was amazing. I dont recommend anyone to buy this save your money

And yes, its a kids game, but Nintendo themselves advertised it as a game "to keep veterans on their toes". Which is ridiculous.
Region got recycled for the 7th time, character animations got recycled from the 3DS models, which feels lazy. The battle animations are also extremely unimpressive considering the switch has very high potential in that regard. The frequent frame drops the game has are inexcusable for a 2018 game. As for the new additions:
Catching mons with motion controls feels klunky and bugs out often. Proper targetted catching can be bought for an additional 50$ and the Pokeball Plus is an absolute nightmare for controlling your character outside of the catching process.
Arbitrary requirements to enter gyms are now present, with one of them forcing your to enter a gym overleveled. Thanks for spoonfeeding me, Nintendo.
It is a pretty game. But thats about it. Not worth the 60$, and very disappointing for Pokemons grand entrance on the switch.

It is a Pokemon game on the switch that isn't a Mortal Kombat clone or a mobile game(not entirely). I like some of the new mechanics, I love that Pokemon can follow you and sometimes have more use than just that. I like that catching Pokemon is more important now. I love that the PC is now portable. The game is a little disappointing in that wild encounter battles are now removed and it does make battling gym leaders more difficult but only because grinding now revolves around catching everything. I think the game has a lot of potential if it mixed what it tried to do with stuff that people enjoy about pokemon. Like:

    1. You can remove random encounters but allow people to still battle the pokemon
    2. Improve the trading system by allowing some form of communication
    3. Include more trainers(nitpicking but a genuine complaint of mine)
    4. Just let them breed
    5. Abilities maybe weren't in the first generation but they make the game more fun

The game I feel is not worth a zero. It tries something different while trying to appeal to a younger audience and making it easier to new players. Trying something new which is a good thing considering how often people complain how all Pokemon games are the same.

It does have some things for us older players(20 years now for me) and just needs a bit more of a polishing. I enjoyed myself even though it might be a rocky start to Pokemon on the switch but it is at least a fun way to get going

Pokemon Let's Go is a beautiful looking Game. The Graphics are very polished and you can see Pokemon on the surface, i enjoyed that feature.

-The coop sounded amazing in theory but it is propably the worst thing about the game. As player 2 you are not only unable to interact with anything in the game but you are mere a teleporting hologram following the protagonist to enable him a 2 v 1 battle. Thats it (well you can stun roaming pokemon for about 1.5 seconds to help the real player catch it more easily). Oh and if the protagonist initiates a 2 v 2 battle you are getting straight up benched. The most anoying thing about coop is that it unbalances the allready ridiculous easy game to a point were it is just not anymore enjoyable.
-The catching system is straight out of Pokemon Go. I personally didnt enjoy this concept but i get why people would prefer the "throw ball in face feature" over the old fashioned way. What noone should enjoy is that the throwing mechanic is frustratingly unpredictable and shouldnt have left the aplha version of this game.
-The xp rate of just blindly catching anything you see wins against all other means of getting xp wich leads to the pokemon mass production playstyle we all love from pokemon go. Catch a lot of pokemon > Put them in the "send to oaks blender" > Get Candy > Feed the pokemon that matter. Oh and the pokemon that matters is really just Eevee, wich is so ridiculously overpowered that after teaching it its new abilitys, we at some point had to remove it from the team for ruining the combat experience.
    - The new Breeding experience for the people that love to create the perfect Pokemon is quite non existing. After seeing a ditto pillow in the daycare center i got shortly exited, but then i realized you can put there only one pokemon at a time. Removing another aspect i loved about the main series.
They just removed pokemons selling points, copied the cashgrab mobile, increased the graphics , increased the price and created the most casual experience i had for a very long time, almost as if this game was targeted towards toddlers.

Why, you may ask? Well over the years as I learned to use the various game mechanics (IV'S EV'S etc.) to my advantage, all the Pokemon (even new releases) just became numbers for me. They didn't feel like Pokemon anymore. I didn't feel like I was playing a Pokemon game, instead I was just playing a numbers game where you could replace the Pokemon with static stick men and nothing would change.

This game was a refreshing change in that it removed most of the numbers and made the focus on catching Pokemon (You know, gotta catch 'em all, and all that?). I felt like a kid again, I felt like I just wanted to catch them all just because I could, and not just because I felt I needed a specific stick man for breeding to get some specific skill for another stick man.

The game however was a bit too easy, but it didn't really bother me because I was having fun, honest to god fun. Something I hadn't experienced in ANY game for a long long while. Just good old fun with no calculating optimal stick figure builds or the weight of the world weighing down on my shoulders. I was on a journey with Pokemon, and that's all there was to it.

However as much I liked this nice little break between Pokemon games I still feel the next game should be a more traditional game. This game, even though I did enjoy it as a nice break, should indeed stay as just a break from the usual formula. There's just something about building the perfect stick man. Something other games can't really nail down.

I played Red, Yellow, and Gold when I was a child, and returned to play HeartGold and Emerald later on. I honestly don't miss having to battle wild Pokemon in an attempt to catch them. I also like what they have done with the Exp sharing, so now I don't have to burn a turn of battle trying to level a weaker Pokemon. I like that they used some advanced mechanics (Pokemon types, moves, etc) from later generation games. While the wild Pokemon mechanic used in this game - you can see them before you encounter them - might lead some to madness, I quite appreciate being able to pick and choose what, when, and where I encounter one.

However, the fact that this game is solely in Kanto and contains only the original 151 Pokemon from generation 1 is a huge limiting factor in my opinion of this game. In 2018, it is simply unacceptable for a feature-priced game to be limited in such a serious manner. They could've at least, and I do emphasize LEAST, included Johto. I suppose I shouldn't be particularly surprised, however, as several of the classic franchise, Nintendo-exclusive Switch games (Kirby, Mario Party) have been severely lacking depth of content. It's a disturbing trend I've noticed, and there remains no evidence to suggest that might halt or reverse in the future (may the gods have mercy on the Smash review board!). I also find the motion controls frustratingly, severely lacking the ability to pick up the more subtle movements the game seems to force one to make (L/R motion is particularly terrible!). I also find the lack of local multiplayer to be a big downside - sure, no Pokemon game has had it before, but in a game where you use one of a minimum of two Joy-Cons, I don't see why they couldn't fold in a better way to fold in a deeper local multiplayer experience. This issue is even worse when viewed in the context both of several recent open-world RPGs which do a marvelous job of incorporating local, split-screen multiplayer, and when considering that local multiplayer games is one of the biggest assets and marketing items for the Switch. Lastly, I'll just remark that they did, in fact, essentially nerf the game by buffing the starter Pokemon to high heaven; if you want a challenge in this game, you'll have to manufacture it yourself.

All this said, I still have logged over 20 hours in this game, and I will likely end up well over 100, because, hey, those Pokemon ain't gonna catch themselves!. It's a fun game, just with some glaring flaws that simply shouldn't exist in a game in a franchise that's over 20 years old now. .

Black/White 1 and 2 which had the battle subway, musical hall, engaging stories, secret legendaries, and a tournament to fight dozens of series icons, along with triple and rotation battles. All of these games were $40 with tons of features. The you look at Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. There is no depth to this game, it is repetitive, and while there are dozens of hours of gameplay it never truly changes up or gets more challenging. The game holds your hand the entire way through, it is extremely easy and honestly, there is very little reason to play it. The only reason to get this game is out of a lack of contest, there is no other traditional Pokemon game on the Switch. The game is going to sell well regardless due to the fact it is a Pokemon game and the Switch has such a high install base. Kids will enjoy this I'm sure, but if you want a Pokemon game with more depth, challenge, and replay-ability, tell Gamefreak by voting with your wallet by not buying this game. On the other hand, if you just enjoy the world of Pokemon and don't care about the mechanics of it and want a fun casual game you can relax and enjoy on your tv or on the go, then I would recommend this. All in all this game is not a disappointment, they advertised EXACTLY what it was from the get go. A casual game meant for casual gamers, newcomers to Pokemon, and young children or adults who grew up with Pokemon to play with their own kids. I can't fault this game for not being something it was never advertised as, a game with depth, compelling story, characters, and gameplay. HOWEVER, I can fault it for calling itself a main line Pokemon title priced above all those before it with not even a third of the content that those games had, yet is priced at 1/3 times the price. This game is a rip-off price-wise, I would not recommend paying this amount of money no matter the type of 'gamer'/fan you are. Wait for it to possibly go down in price, because in the end, you really aren't missing much. Expand

Minimum effort, maximum profit seems to be the MO at GameFreak and unfortunately this game might be their biggest offender yet. Let’s Go also doesn’t do the Nintendo Switch justice in strictly technical terms. In stark contrast to Nintendo’s own blockbusters such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, the 2.5D world of Let’s Go is made of simple, flat textures with terrible lightning and very limited animations, more fitting for a mobile or handheld game than a fully priced console release. Avoid at all costs. Expand

I missed dungons like The Rocket Base and Seafoam Islands for 2 gens now so I was happy to have them back even if the encouters were easier than the gen 1 or 3 versions of Kanto. I expected to be frustrated with the lack of wild battles, ablities, and held items instead I found I only slightly missed wild battles more so for the better control over the catch rate vs the actual wild entcounters themselves as I think back to the old games and comsider the fact I ran from everyting I didn't want to catch. Ablities and Held Items I didn't miss at all as it was this game that made me realize how little I actualy use those outside of PvP battles and how anyoing they can be on some NPC trainer pokemon aka you can now ues a physial attack a electric pokemon without the fear of static paralyzing your pokemon! The Go mechanica dont bother me but like i said before Id rather weaken the pokemon before throwing the ball. What is I find the bigest problem is the same problem is the same problem I have with gens 6&7 trainers need more pokemon and at higher levels I didn't find this a problem if I avoided uesing the chain catchng tecnique to get rare and better IV&EV pokemon to apear but when I did I very quickly found myself overleveled to the point of KOing Brock's Onix with my Pikachu as he was level 16 and all because I wanted a Bulbasuar. Also if you play pokemon with competive multiplayer in mind this definatly isn't the game for you and should probably wait for gen 8 instead of geting this. I did get the pokeball plus with Mew but I'd definatly say while it added to the experince it isn't worth $50 if you can somehow get it for $20 or $30 it is more of a value. There are a few things here I hope cary over to gen8 and those are Pokemon Box in my Bag as that encouraged me to be more experimental and rotational with my team instead of sticking to just 6 pokemon since i no longer had to go to a pokemon center to switch out, chain catching encouraged me to hunt for better pokemon and shinies so keep that too, pokemon wandering in the wild instead of random encounters made finding what I wanted faster and caves much less of a nightmare(NO MORE ZUBAT EVERY 2 STEPS!) and saved me a fortune on Repels too! Those 3 things I want to see in gen8! Overal I wouldn't say this is my favorite pokemon game (my top 3 being Gale of Darkness, HGSS, and Gen 5 parts 1 and 2) but I would say its in my top 10 something gen 6 & 7 arent ( I am counting spinoffs like mystery dungon and stadium here) this game was poorly advertized to us in my opinon to us by Game Freak as they only showed the worst of this game to us instead of anything thay would have sold us on it I only got it because of a friend recomended I try it out and I had extra cash lieing around with nothing better to get (I had smash resevered months ago) to those of you who have your doubts about the game and maybe review bombing it curently I encourage you to at least rent the game and play it from beging to end before decideing its a 0-3/10 when at bare minimum if you don't like it I think you'll agree it's at least a 4 or 5. I gave it a 7 out of 10 as while I enjoyed my time there are some issues that need worked out if they were to do a remake like this again but I wouldn't mind seeing such as long as we get more traditional games a year or so after. I'd say I'd even be willing to pay $20 bucks for a Johto DLC expansion for this game! What I am certain of is I had fun and it isn't the dumbed down baby's first pokemon I was expecting it to be. A $20 price increase and nothing to show for it. This game isn't really a deep game, it's more of an experience set in the Kanto region. It played on my nostalgia, but it did leave me wanting more. I wanted more of the traditional Pokemon RPG experience. Several users are putting this out as a 0, and that's just an emotional reaction - this game was never intended to be a core Pokemon RPG.

It was intended to be a nostalgic trip, it was intended to test out some new ideas and some new concepts. It's truly beautiful, and it accomplished what it set out to do. 60.00 is a bit steep in my opinion for this game. And the pokeball controller is a complete waste of money.

Think for yourself on this game - if you want a core Pokemon RPG, skip this, and play Ultra Sun/Moon. If you want an enjoyable diversion, gab this game. You'll enjoy it, if you're looking for that. Temper your expectations appropriately - my only regret with this game is that I purchased the Pokeball controller. I am enjoying LGP for what it is. You might too.

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It's a simple, cute and fun game that will keep you hooked for hours. An excellent starting point for newcomers, and a great nostalgia trip for those in a search for one.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
