This is not Pokemon, this is Pokemon Go. This is a game about buying and throwing pokeballs instead of battling pokemon. I don't know if the critics were afraid of giving a big franchise and much hyped game bad reviews or what, but this game does not deserve an 81 meta score.

A very lazyily made game that simply exists to make money. No care or effort was put into this sad excuse of a video game. Should have put it on mobile phones where it belongs, or better yet, the trash can.

It is a great game full of nostalgia, the only difference between this game of pokemon and the other games is that you can not fight with the wild pokemon, but you go directly to capture them, which does not really affect anything, it is really a great remake.

Nooooo, it's all wrong, all of it. Where's Gary? Where's the old capture mechanics? Everything in this game just feels wrong. Fire Red and Leaf Green were my first Pokemon games, they were so good and this doesn't even live up to those games from 14 years ago, let alone the originals.

It's incredible how Game Freak can dumb down such an incredible franchise to milk as many pennies from the casual audience. Sadly, the new graphics and music can't make up for the removed gameplay elements such as wild Pokémon battles (I guess they were too difficult for the casual market?).
Overall, this is a soulless game pandering to the most casual fans who have only played Pokémon GO.

The experience with the game so far I like, it's simple, and for those who complain that they have removed content, I remind them where the pokemon saga comes from, when there were no comparable items, where nobody knew about ev or ivs ( I think there were not any), natures, abilities and so many examples. Pokemon let's go is a proposal that does not lie: it is a game to integrate pokemon go players to the stories of the franchise ... is it something that's wrong?

Regarding the difficulty ... well, I've relived my childhood mistakes (this time for underestimating it) against Brock, and I've lost ... yes, lost. The loss of random battles, has not made it easier, but I feel even more difficult (I hate to spend hours capturing) if it can be said that it is not a difficult game much less, but even more difficult than some of one's own main saga.

The graphic section ... as always gamefreaks has done a good job ... halfway, since in what is optimization has some fps slumps ... as always

You can make these games as hard or as easy as you want. It all depends on playstyle.

To have a actually Pokemon came on a home console. I don't want to go deep into all this, but the game is fun. The Pokemon go style catching I could have done without, but that aside the game is fun and GREAT to look at. These people saying the graphics are worse than 3ds literally must be insane and blind. I don't understand how you are such a " hardcore fan " yet are sinking this game with bad reviews because of information that had been above long before the game dropped, if you were really sick a hardcore Pokemon fan this would have come at no surprise. I came into this game knowing it wasn't going to be very hard or have a lot of the technical parts of the other games, but I was just looking forward to playing a Pokemon game. Someone said Mewtwo should beat your as and not be a ball chugging match, ummm you have to fight him before you can even catch him....asshat. I strongly advise all who read these go by the actual critic reviews and ignore the user reveiws on this one, people are just so bitter, which is surprising considering it was announced when they announced this game that the 2019 Pokemon would be for the core fans and this was to introduce newer players who never got to experience the Pokemon game that started it all.

The graphics are okay, marginally better than Gen 7 (though the capture sequences are virtually indistinguishable from GO), and seeing Pokémon roam around the overworld is pretty cool and something I hope carries over to later generations. No HMs is nice but USUM already fixed that. Thus ends my list of pros.

I don't understand all the meddling with the core formula. The story is that GF wanted to make the game more accessible for new players so they removed wild battles, abilities, held items, etc. But last I checked, young kids have spent the last 20 years being able to figure out the inner complexities of Pokémon, beginning with those of us who started with Gen 1 when we were 6 and 7, all the way up to the kids whose first Pokémon game was USUM. Not to mention every iteration of Pokémon has sold like hotcakes, so it's not like having abilities or whatever was frustrating new players to the point that they weren't buying the game.

The real reason that this game has been so stripped down, that the difficulty is such a joke, is because it was obviously a rush job and a cash grab. Wanna know why IVs, which are easily the most complex thing about Pokémon, made it into the game but not abilities? Because IV's are easy to code into a game, it's just RNG pumping out a series of numbers. Same with natures, which are even more frustrating than IVs (still in the game despite being universally hated). Unlike abilities, but putting abilities in requires effort, unique animations, effects, weather (also removed), etc. Same with hold items. Nobody ever complained about hold items, we've been able to figure those out since the first time we gave Totodile a berry in GS, but those got purged too. So don't buy the BS that GF was concerned with new players being confused - what really happened is that they didn't have enough time to cram everything in before the holiday deadline.

The GO mechanics are also supremely frustrating, mostly because the catch system is designed for GO (a F2P game) and not a game that people paid $60 for. Pokémon GO is designed for kids to spam Poke balls until they have to use Mommy's Visa to buy more. Getting a Nice/Great/Excellent has zero bearing on catch rates, which is now 100% RNG that the player has very little control over - all you can do you is press the berry button and hope that the Pokémon doesn't immediately run away. The result is a catch minigame that feels incredibly frustrating - anyone who has hurled 5+ ultra balls into a green circle only to have their 30+ chain broken because the target fled knows what I mean.

It's charming being back in Kanto, and seeing a big-ol Onix rumble around is cool. But this game is not worth $60, and with less features than the 3DS games it might not be worth $40 either. I understand why this game exists, but man is it a disappointment, and if GF doesn't really crush Gen 8 then my interest in Pokémon might finally collapse. Also they left Stealth Rock in the game but removed Rapid Spin and Defog. You have been warned.

The people settling for this are blind complacent fanboys who don't care about the quality of what they consume because they idolize what they like to dangerous levels and adopt ''my team must win and can do no wrong'' tribalist mentality(which ironically enough they're the same people who will try to paint you as ''afraid of change'' when it's the same exact kanto just with GO mechanics instead of series staples) or casual players uninterested in challenging and in depth experiences and just want to have a relaxing and fun time, which is perfectly fine but I feel like previous pokemon games do a perfect job of being a fun experience for everybody no matter what kind of player you are and there's no need to dumb down a series iconic for being newcomer friendly and easily accessible. this just feel like a poorly thought attempt of trying to get more casuals in the series out of the mistaken belief they have to sacrifice everything long time fans enjoyed to do so, and also a way to test how many times they can get away with selling kanto over and over again. While the games themselves do have some redeeming qualities and aren't worth a 1 (probably a 5 imo as they're not atrocious but just painfully dull and mediocre), I feel like pokemon should remain appealing to everybody and strike a balance between the various markets and that the core idea of needing to make everything easier and dumber that sparked this game into being in the first place is completely wrong and shoudn't be encouraged. Honestly I like the game. The graphics are a nice update... I do wish they had given all the Pokemon real "voices" instead of just a few (it's jarring when Pikachu or Eevee have an voice, but everything else just get random blast of noise that hasn't changed gameboy of the 90s)...

I have been playing Pokémon for the last 20 years, and this game is a disgrace to the franchise. Now, don't get me wrong, this game does have entertainment value, but absolutely not worth the $110 for this game plus Mew. The months leading up to this game's release have been the most confusing times prior to anything I've ever seen revolving around a video game. The game's director,I have been playing Pokémon for the last 20 years, and this game is a disgrace to the franchise. Now, don't get me wrong, this game does have entertainment value, but absolutely not worth the $110 for this game plus Mew. The months leading up to this game's release have been the most confusing times prior to anything I've ever seen revolving around a video game. The game's director, Junichi Masuda, has made so many claims that all refute each other in terms of the target audience.

The games take place in Kanto, so there is no reason to market this game to younger children because they don't have nostalgia for Kanto.

Yet, he said this game was for kids that weren't able to play Pokemon GO due to not having cell phones.

Yet, still, the only way to obtain Meltan and Mew are through playing Pokemon GO and buying a $50 peripheral respectively. Not things his claimed target audience are going to be able to do.

He has stated that Let's Go is also intended to get younger players introduced into the more mainline games, yet on the same token, has said that younger players don't have the attention spans for complex video games like Pokemon anymore.

These conflicting claims aside, there have been a lot of decisions in respect to the gameplay that point to a low-effort release, but I'll highlight the positive aspects first.

    - First, the removal of wild battles. This was a controversial move, but not inherently bad. I understand this change, and why it was made for these titles specifically, as the players coming over from GO are going to be most familiar with these mechanics (but I thought the target audience was kids who didn't get to play GO? Hmm...)

    - Secondly, wild encounters are no longer random, but happen in the overworld. For me, this is a welcome change, as it helps the setting feel more alive.

    - Thirdly, pokemon can follow you and allow you to ride them. Something fans have been asking about since Black and White.

But here's where the games fall short:

    - The games only have the original 151, plus the new mythical, Meltan and Melmetal. All the other pokemon have been removed.

    - The difficulty of the game is nonexistent. Gyms have prerequisites, one of which is that you are stronger than the gym leader before you challenge it.

    - The new height system for pokemon means absolutely nothing. The models don't scale depending on how big the pokemon is, all are the same size regardless of what the game tells you.

    - Abilities, held items, several moves and eggs have been outright removed from the game.

    - EV's have been removed from the game, but the stats you CANNOT control, such as IV's, remains.

    - You play as a new character to the pokemon franchise, yet there is no customization, unlike the previous two generations as well as GO.

    - Animations and models have not improved in the 5 years since X and Y came out. Most pokemon still stand around as if they are just waiting to get hit.

    - Pokemon Amie (the petting and nurturing mini-game from the past two generations) does not exist for any pokemon besides your partner pokemon.

While these games are intensely flawed, overall, yes, this game has entertainment value best suited for small children. I would rate this game much higher than a 0 if it were already clear that this is a game best suited for children, but the Kanto pandering of these games has muddied up who this game is really meant for. If you are a grown man reading this review, who is not satisfied with the qualities this game possesses, please, do not buy it. This game is perfectly suited for a child who would otherwise need help during the course of a normal pokemon game. If you are willing to spend $60 on a game for a child's birthday, this is not a bad way to go, but do not feel obligated to buy strictly because you are a pokemon fan. You are missing very little.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well rather than just saying "it's bad," let's take a look at the product as a whole.
    Graphical Quality
The game has relatively basic graphics. Not abhorrent, but nothing special either. Notable model clipping and models that are somewhat bland doesn't make a huge impact on this game's graphics, although it doesn't really compare to less profitable JRPGs on the same system. When playing, I noticed that there was also some minor text errors. Overall, 4/10. It's not great but not vile either.
    The Gameplay
The catching of Pokemon mimics the rather poor quality experience I had when playing Pokemon Go, waiting for a circle and throwing a ball. While this seems done to incentivize catching over battling, it doesn't make for a terribly engaging experience and becomes repetitive and boring much faster than even a mediocre health absorbing enemy in a typical JRPG. Online components seem strangely weaker than other Pokemon games or even other games in general on the system, which is odd for a game that utilizes a paid subscription to use the online in the first place. The battles are extremely easy, which isn't a huge negative for the intended audience, but the unfilled movesets, small teams, and weak enemy AI makes one wish for an autobattle function, as there is zero brainpower required to defeat most trainers. The postgame content, something I'd not expect a child to bother with, is insultingly poor, solely consisting of mindlessly grinding out every Pokemon (not just the full evolutions) for a mirror match with an NPC. Overall 1/10 if you're over the target age, 4/10 if under it.
    The Music
Nothing terribly special. I prefer many of the pieces from Firered and Leafgreen more, but it's passable. Some pieces aren't great but overall 5/10, mediated from the solid 7/10 themes and terrible 2/10 ones.

Overall, the game is of poor quality. I would not recommend this game for purchase. I cannot return my copy, but I sincerely hope you do not make the same mistake. For children, I would suggest just buying them a nice Lego bucket instead. It would be a better use of the money.
As a rating, the game is really a 4/10, but as this is a user review I am rating it at 0 to ensure that an impact is made clear to any reading this. Immense buyer's remorse on my part factors into this.

This game is a shallow remake that doesn't offer a lot different from the games it's supposed to be remaking. The new capture mechanics are flawed as well. For the Game it self, im playing it right now. I guess im half through the games story. The controls are very simple, perfect for new and young Pokemon and RPG starters. Graphics nice and cute in a good quality but way simpler than graphics like Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey , here's my guessing too, that the next full new Pokemon Generations will be treated with some more opulenter graphics. The over all Performance of the Game feels good. I heard about some framedrops in Handheld mode, but they aren't for example again not that massive like the ones in Breath of the Wild again. Actually till now i didn't even noticed them really.

In the end i find the game really nice, easy start in RPG like Games.
(I even actually my start in RPGs, i often tried RPGs but quickly felt overdone by the complexity of the most games, this one is a very simple move into the genre which i really prefer. for me personally)
I had and have today still fun with this game. And that's what its about, right. Its not fair to rate this that bad for being disappointed not getting the next big step in Poke Gen. So...

Hold on old Poke Fans the next big game is coming next year for you (and if its gonna sucks feel free to rate it that way) but step back from this beginner friendly meant game.

Now, your Pokemon gain experience by catching Pokemon and you can later send the Pokemon you don't want to Professor Oak (which feels nicer than leaving hundereds of Pokemon in your box to rot). Doing this rewards candies you can use to increase the stats of your Pokemon. This method feels more tangible and rewarding that the EV grind.

The graphics are charming and for the first time I actually feel immersed in the Pokemon world. My interactions with Pikachu feel real and I actually feel a bond to my Pokemon, something which Let's go does better than all the previous iterations of the game.

A lot of the complexity behind the game is stripped away from the series and now you cannot even battle wild pokemons... all you can do is throw balls at them. and your pokemon gains exp from catching wild pokemon... Let's not debate if that makes any sense, the main issue is it is extremely boring. in contrast, back when you can battle wild pokemon, you can at least test the effectiveness of the your pokemons' skills and have a variety of sorts so it's more interactive than throw a pokeball, catch the pokemon, throw a ball, catch a pokemon, give all the excessive pokemon to professor, throw candy, throw a ball, catch a pokemon, fight a trainer....... this game is god awful and you should avoid it at all costs.

I went into this game knowing what it was; it's a bridging game to get the people who played Pokemon Go, but not an actual game. But as a fan who's been with Pokemon since Gen 3, how does it stack for someone like me? Well... I'll be honest, it doesn't. Let's get into the nitty gritty here.

Pokemon Let's Go is, what I'm sure to be, a remake of Pokemon Yellow, with the additional version for Eevee fans. Right off the bat, it's the best Kanto has ever looked, with the nice visuals being present from the start till the end. I do feel it's a good looking game. And I'll be real, I didn't feel like I was getting bored through the story itself. Sure it's nothing new, but the few little changes placed here and there, be it big story changes or just little details that reference bits of the originals or even future games, are nice through and through. For example, Vermilion City has a gentleman in his house with a Farfetch'd stating he wants to go catch a Spearow, a clear reference to the little girl who would trade her Farfetch'd for a Spearow in the original games. I like the attention to detail, even if they don't impact much. While the idea of Pokemon GO catching mechanics worked okay in the game, I definitely do not want to see it become the new normal and I certainly don't want to see it come back for a future title.

I know that paragraph is pretty short for the pros of the game, but I can't help but say these games are FAR from the best the series has to offer. While the director of the games calls them core games, I can't see them as anything but spin-off titles. It doesn't matter who this game was targeted to, the amount of staple ideas removed does not cut it for a core game in my eyes. The game is missing around half of the established moves from past games, the inability to have hold items, removal of abilities, removal of more than 600 Pokemon and more, there's too much missing and there really is no excuse for it. You can make a game that is beginner friendly that doesn't remove half of Pokmeon's established progress. Hold items, maybe I can understand that. But the removal of abilities is something that won't sit right with me regardless. Even the idea of only 151 Pokemon can be worked around, instead of the developers sticking to their favorite Kanto only Pokedex. It's as simple as introducing a large number of gen 2-7 Pokemon AFTER you beat the game.

I know that Pokemon Let's Go are meant to be bridging points for people who only played Pokemon GO, but I don't think that should've been how Pokemon made it's true debut on the Switch. There's a difference between the fanbase that's been with Pokemon for a long time and people who only played Pokemon GO cause they have a phone. And to regard the fact that this is the fifth trip back to Kanto doesn't do it for someone who isn't Kanto nostalgic. I would truly recommend these games to the very audience they're targeting; the Pokemon GO only players. If you've never played a Pokemon game, I can even recommend Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon beforehand, even if those games have their own flaws. But for those who have been with Pokemon for a long time, best save your excitement and your money for the 2019 titles. These aren't terrible games, but they're not for those looking for a true Pokemon experience.

If I had to sum up my problems with these games it would be that they're very shallow, unambitious and soulless. After having normally proportioned humans and non-grid based environments in Sun and Moon it feels like a huge regression to suddenly have chibi characters and unnaturally squared world designs again, especially since the Switch is a much more powerful console than the 3DS. ItIf I had to sum up my problems with these games it would be that they're very shallow, unambitious and soulless. After having normally proportioned humans and non-grid based environments in Sun and Moon it feels like a huge regression to suddenly have chibi characters and unnaturally squared world designs again, especially since the Switch is a much more powerful console than the 3DS. It doesn't help that it looks much cheaper than all other big Switch titles such as Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey or even Splatoon. That wouldn't really be a problem if it wasn't sold at the same price as these.

"But graphics aren't everything!" I can hear you say and you're absolute right. Sadly, the gameplay reflects the same half hearted, lackluster attitude as the game's looks. This 2018 game's map offers the exact same content as a Gameboy game from 1996. You might try the weak excuse of "It's a remake" but even that fails when the 2004 GBA remakes offered more content in form of the Sevii islands which also greatly expanded the amount of Pokemon you could encounter. LGPE has no such thing, no new post game areas, no way to encounter new Pokemon. It has the smallest regional dex with 153 since Diamond and Pearl but even GameFreak realised this and expanded it with Platinum. So this fully priced Switch game gives you less content than the 2004 GBA Kanto adventure and has the least Pokemon of any game since 2006.

Saying that LGPE are an overpriced, lazily made cash grab is at this point an understatement. But it even gets worse. The Pokeball plus accessory is the only way to obtain Mew in this way. Locking a Pokemon behind a 50$ paywell is just bad business practise. It's especially shocking to me that gamers are just accepting this since there was such a loud outcry againnst stuff like day 1 DLC, lootboxes and pay2win strategies. And GameFreak made sure you can't transfer Mew from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Let's Go. So they're fully aware of this and simply using it to exploit their customers.

I could go on about how the combat was stripped of all the mechanics that were introduced over the years such as abilities, hold items and natures or how the gym requirements further casualize a series that's already overblown with casualization but I think I've made my point. However, I do want to be fair and mention some positives for me like the usage of Pokemon on the overworld or that some characters were more fleshed out with more interactions.

On a technical level these games are fine. They're harmless fun for people who want to relive their childhood experiences of Kanto. But as someone who has been with this series for over 15 years I can't just ignore all of what I've said above. I can't ignore how much these games have been a regression from what came before and how exploitative and cheap they feel. It's not anyway near what the Switch or Pokemon as a franchise is capable of. And GameFreak is aware of that. They know they can just release mediocre, lackluster products and they will sell. That's the real reason why despite saying that on a technical level these games are fine I'm giving them such a low score. Scummy behavior like this should be discouraged as much as possible. I can only hope that Gen 8 will be better and have some actual effort put into them.

I got exactly what I was expecting with a few changes here and there. The main story, collecting the badges, and facing the elite four are all typical of what I would expect of a Pokemon game, and I don't really have any complaints apart from the atrocious throwing mechanic which pretty much forces you to play hand-held if you want to be able to catch anything. If that were the only issue, this game would have a higher score from me, but, sadly, there is a GLARING problem that comes in post-game.

In all other main-name Pokemon games before this one, you have the option to fight wild pokemon in order to grind experience. This game is missing that. It might not seem that big of a deal until you get to the post-game content where EVERYTHING from Mewtwo to the Master Trainers are significantly higher level than the elite four you just defeated. Normally, that would be fine, fun even because it's an extra challenge, but not when they have effectively removed the main source of grinding levels: battling wild pokemon. Now, you are forced to chain-catch the same pokemon over and over again in order to gain experience, which also doesn't seem like a big deal, until you factor in seveal things:

1.) You have no control over which Pokemon shows up. So you could be trying to chain-catch one particular pokemon, but it might go from appearing every few seconds to never appearing at all.

2.) If the Pokemon DOES appear and it's not either Huge or Tiny, it gives very little experience when you catch it.

3.) If you don't catch the pokemon with the VERY first throw of your Pokeball, the experience you get from catching it is lowered significantly. That means, if it breaks out of the ball even once, you lose experience. And you can only get decent experience post-game by catching VERY high level pokemon, which means your chances of catching ANY of them on the first ball is slim.

4.) If you don't get either a "Great" or an "Excellent" throw, the experience you get from catching it is lowered significantly.

5.) If you get a chain going, and the pokemon you're trying to catch runs away before you can catch it, it breaks your chain and you have to start all over.

In other words, they have turned the ONLY means of getting decent experience into a chore. The only other way to gain experience post-game is by re-battling gym leaders and challenging the elitor four again, but the experience you get from those things is negligible at best. Just to put it into perspective, I wanted to raise a Dratini post-game so that I could have a better chance of defeating Mewtwo. I challenged Brock's gym to see how much experience the Dratini would get from the battle. It was level 27, and by the end of Brock's fight, the Dratini had gone up a measly ONE level. So it would take literally months of challenging gym leaders every day to get the Dratini to the level I need it to fight Mewtwo.

The game is okay if you only want to beat the main story, but they have effectively made end-game content a chore, not fun.

Firstly the story is near identical with the exception of a few minor changes so nothing worth going into in that much depth, it's enjoyable never something that will completely engrossing but it's also not exactly boring, it's basic and dull but you can't ever expect much from a Pokemon story let alone one that's been done over and over by this point.

Most people were concerned about the catching mechanics, with the usual format of battling a wild Pokemon until their health is low enough to attempt catching them being removed and replaced with the Pokemon Go style of throwing a Pokeball at every Pokemon you run into. To be completely honest it's far more fun than I ever expected it to be, I'm didn't stop for each and every pokemon but I certainly would go out of my way to catch any Pokemon I had not already caught. it made completing the Pokedex less of a chore, this is aided by seeing the Pokemon roaming around it just helped create a charming and enjoyable tone.

The difficulty was the next fear is it the super easy introduction we all assumed it would be... Sort of, I found it harder than I had expected but I thought you could basically complete it the first time without even looking at the game. But it could be difficult at points never too difficult but points that took me back thinking this is far from what I expected, but still a million times easier than the original incarnation of the Kanto games that being Red/Blue.

Something that may interest many of you is the shiny hunting. Is it tiresome and tedious? It's about as easy as you would expect with the game. But the roaming Pokemon certainly aids the experience of shiny hunting, I ended up catching a shiny Bulbasaur when just testing the shiny mechanics on a Weedle.

Another post-game feature that you may spend time on rather than shiny hunting is the Pokemon Mastery trainers, where there are trainers who have a strong version of a specific Pokemon and you get the chance to challenge them with your own version of that Pokemon to see who is the ultimate (insert Pokemon) master trainer.

I found my time with Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu enjoyable throughout, even with the parts that are purely for newcomers to the franchise they were never too frustrating or annoying but it would at points take away from my experience but I still would recommend it to Switch owners as there is truly nothing else like it on the system right now and until next year main-line Pokemon game release I fine with playing this game, I'm fine completing all the Pokemon mastery trainers and shiny hunting. And with that, I give it and 8 out of 10.

The game visually looks okay, honestly it doesn't live up to my expectations, I feel the game kind of looks like an indie game, especially since so much content has been removed, it feels incomplete. Yet, this game provides so much beautiful nostalgia, the visuals are sweet and colorful, I love looking at them, just like how I love looking at your mother, you might not appreciate her but I do. Difficulty wise, the story for Pokemon games are usually a breeze, I still have to experience the E4 rematches and Battle Master trainers, I think I will find that enjoyable, but seriously, this game is hella easy. That is not a bad thing for me though, I am an adult and have to dedicate my time to other things, so I honestly don't mind it. Regarding capture mechanics, I am being honest, I honestly don't mind it at all. Joycon controls def take time to get used to. At first I thought the motion detection sucked because the pokeballs would go everywhere, only then did I realize I had no clue how to throw, the game should do a better job explaining that. It requires a very specific motion. I feel the capture mechanics make your pokemon level up quick. It was NOT fun in Pokemon red to have to dedicate hours grinding for a specific pokemon, only to realize that that particular pokemon is much weaker than your team. The recent games fix that. I feel this game is more of an entree, before the main dish next year. If you can't figure out what the means, basically this is something Gamefreak has given us to stall us until next year. Next years game should be amazing.

If you're gonna play this game, stop being a salty lil **** and play it with an open mind, it is enjoyable in its own unique way. At the same time, being a hardcore Pokemon fan, I do find myself agreeing with the upset crowd. But still, stop being a lil **** and maybe give it a shot.

You start the game, same as the others, but you don't play the game quite the same. Half the fun has been removed. Where you used to be a trainer battling Pokemon, getting stronger, catching the ones you like and having engaging battles with other trainers, well, all of that is gone now. All you do is catch Pokemon. You get bonus multipliers for experience when you catch the same Pokemon multiple times in a row. You keep the ones you want and give the rest to professor Oak. He gives you candy as a reward. At first I thought this was kind of funny 'haha I'm turning Pokemon into chicken nuggets' then the sad, glooming shadow of realization finally struck me, this is the entire game. Catching Pokemon, which levels up your party, and turning the rest into candy. The battles with trainers are shallow and lack energy. Almost every trainer you meet only has one Pokemon and most gym leaders only have at least two. This makes all the battles short and unengaging which takes away the best part about being a 'pokemon trainer'. I cannot in my right mind leave a good review for this game. Your kids will enjoy it as a fun little past time activity, but if your like me and you grew up with the games and the cards, and you were looking for the next great game, this isn't it so save your money. The franchise doesn't care about the fans that stuck with them through the years. Which is something we will have to deal with.

I'd also like to leave a short review about the pokeball pro controller. As I get older and after working with my hands they have gotten stiff. The pokeball controller is way too small. I can not comfortably play the game with it for more than an hour. Again it's great for kids but trying to grip this little controller for more than an hour is pretty difficult for an adult.

As a 'old school' fan of the Pokemon franchise (started watching the anime and playing red/blue on gameboy colour in 2000 and have played every game since including GO), I'm a little frustrated by the number of negative reviews from supposed hardcore fans.

Yes there are aspects of Let's Go that are bad, like all games, however I feel as though these are greatly outweighed by positive features. Here's my thoughts.

Positives: Change to the 'wild encounters' so that pokemon are visable is the best change to have been implemented in years. Makes exploring new routes fun and engaging when new pokemon pop out of nowhere and prevents the need for repels when trying to get through areas as you can just avoid wild pokemon .Franchise tagline is also 'gotta catch em all' not gotta battle em all.

Graphic's are phenomenal, especially for pokemon, far better than any of the recent 3ds games. This add's to the overall nostalgia/enjoyment of replaying Kanto with high quality visuals.

Catch mechanic is no where near as bad as people are saying, in agree it can become repetitive over time but so can spam battling the same pokemon to get exp as well. The joycon's can be a little clunky in terms of aiming but overall It's pretty fun in the beginning and pokeball plus is a nice gimmick. Plus its definitely not easier than wild battles, catching legendaries/rare pokemon is very challenging even with repeated excellent throws.

The switch as a console is amazing, and suits let's go so well (granted i haven't played any other games on switch yet). Both handheld and console mode are great and joycon's are a cool twist on conventional console controllers.

Negatives: The multiplayer/co-op feature is a flop. Has the second player as 'support character' so they can't actually catch their own pokemon/have their own account. This also makes battles wayy to easy, basically making it a 2-vs-1 in every situation. And the co-op catching mechanic isn't particularly good.

I do agree with most people in saying that the game is made to be fairly easy, that said if you're not trying to rush through as fast as possible and enjoy exploring all the routes, wild catch streaks, building a high IV team, exploring all buildings and characters etc and trying to complete the pokedex, there's easily 40+ hours of playtime. Not the 1 hitting of every trainer as some purport.

^ This could be improved if they removed the exp share component wherein all pokemon in your party receive exp for catches and battles. Though this is not a let's go feature as it's been present in the last few main series games.

Overall I've found let's go to be an enjoyable and fun reinvention of the Kanto region with enough for hardcore players as well as providing a great into to main series pokemon for POGO exclusive players. You have to remember that this was never marketed or intended to be a traditional pokemon rpg, but there are some features from Let's Go that i would love to have included in future mainseries games on switch.

First let me say, I have played Pokemon since the first game. I have played almost every Pokemon game available. This game is good, I like the game. Everyone saying that this game is shallow and is mediocre, I feel they are too blinded by their hatredFirst let me say, I have played Pokemon since the first game. I have played almost every Pokemon game available. This game is good, I like the game. The lightheartedness of it all, the relationship building with Pikachu, the cutscenes are beautiful, and the nostalgic feel of it all. Everyone saying that this game is shallow and is mediocre, I feel they are too blinded by their hatred for the Pokemon GO mechanic to the game. The fact that I can have another Pokemon in my team follow me while I have Pikachu riding on my shoulder is awesome. I always love it when I can interact with the Pokemon in my team and I feel like it should be in every title Pokemon game. The battling system is still great and the animations of the moves are great. Being able to interact with Pikachu by petting him, having high five games with him, and him giving you presents; makes you feel like you are developing a bond with him. That being said, the only thing I have a huge and negative criticism for is the Pokemon GO mechanics. I hate that I can't battle the wild Pokemon in the game. Whenever I catch a Pokemon, I don't feel like I earn it because it all feels like random luck to get it. The throwing mechanic is a nice idea and makes you feel more immersed, but it could be better. Sometimes I feel like I throw it nicely, only to have the Pokeball fall to the ground right in front of me or have it go sailing over the Pokemon. The worst is when there's Pokemon that jump from side to side and just stay all the way to the side, I have not figured out how to throw the ball in an arch to the left or right; and when I finally do throw it to the left or right, I don't even know how I did it. Also, the only thing that I know of right now because I only just beat Surge is that Razz Berries make it easier to capture the Pokemon. If berries are a big mechanic in the capturing and you can't weaken the Pokemon; why are they not for sale in the shops at the beginning on the game? When you get to the Rock Tunnel, even Great Balls do little in the capture of the Pokemon. I ran out of Razz Berries and I spend like five minutes trying to capture just one Pokemon sometimes. The Pokemon GO aspect wouldn't have been so bad if they didn't make it feel like it was complete random ass luck to capture the Pokemon. They should have kept that we can battle wild Pokemon in between trainer battles to increase our teams strength, rather than relying on catching Pokemon to gain experience. Imagine battling the Pokemon and weakening it to make the ring on the capture screen turn into a different color to make it easier on you to catch the Pokemon. But, the catching part of the game just feels like a long stint in the Safari Zone. I don't feel like I earn the Pokemon I capture. Will I play this game again? Yeah, I'll have another play through. The game isn't all bad, just the Pokemon GO aspect could have been done a whole lot better. Expand

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu, on the other hand, excites me.

I think this is a great game for newcomers and old-timers like me whose first game was blue/red/yellow. People in between are probably going to be disappointed.

    * The game is simple, but it is not as simple as you'd think.
    * I prefer the new catching mechanics over the old.
    * Great nostalgia to see Kanto rendered in 3D and to have pokemon in 1:1 scale follow you around.

The game was too short, with absolutely (to my knowledge) no real post game content (Master Battles don't count)
Grinding to level up past 70 is a boring chore that could have been made easier with better post game content. Catch rate is annoying, and you tear through pokeballs way to fast. And the fact the pokemon run away so much made me want to chunk the game out a window a couple times.

But Pokemon Black was the last game to not bore me, and it very well could be my nostalgia seeing my first ever game yellow brought to life, but I usually don't enjoy remakes, much less actually beat them.

This game should be $40, or GameFreak better have some free dlc around the corner as I have 10 pokemon left to get in the pokedex (trading required) so it took me 39 hours to pretty much beat the entire game. Otherwise GameFreak and Nintendo should be ashamed of pricing this game like they did.

Pokemon has gotten so complicated over the years, and the stories have continued to get worst, revisiting simpler times was nice, and I hope they maintain some, but not all of the new things in the 2019 core game.

In actuality, this is a great installment in the series and I hope some of the changes are carried forward into future titles. Now, onto the review.

Graphics and Audio: Let's Go certainly has the best graphics of any mainline Pokemon game. It looks exactly like you imagined it as an 8-year-old playing on the GameBoy. They are smooth, charming, and true to the series. Additionally, the updated Gen I soundtrack is a pleasure to listen to as you make your way through Kanto, and it's the perfect dose of nostalgia.

Controls: Controls are the weakest area of the game for me. Touch support is only partially implemented (works when interacting with your Eevee or Pikachu, but doesn't work in menus). Additionally, motion controls are forced when catching Pokemon, which could easily have been made optional. The amount of motion required is minimal and it doesn't take much skill, but the option to not use motion would have been nice. My biggest gripe is that the game can't be played with the pro controller or with 2 joycons detached. If the joycons are detached only one can be used, which seems needlessly restrictive.

Gameplay: One of the best things about Let's Go is the removal of random encounters with wild Pokemon. Gone are the days of inching through caves, battling random ****** every other step. Now you can see wild Pokemon right from the overworld and choose what you want to catch, rather than hoping each encounter is what you wanted. Trainer and gym battles (the battles you actually want to have) have stayed the same as past offerings.

Another quality of life improvement over R/B/Y is that HMs have been replaced by "special moves" so that they don't take up move slots. The box where you store Pokemon not in your party is also accessible anywhere now, rather than just at Pokecenters.

Additionally, we are finally free from the long, boring, unskippable cutscenes I'd become accustomed to in more recent generations. For me, this is a huge pro--I stopped playing Sun/Moon due to the excessive cutscenes.

A negative of the game is that your starter, especially if you choose Eevee, essentially becomes invincible if you rely on it. If you use your starter for most battles rather than cultivating a varied team the game will become easy boring very quickly. I recommend leaving your starter on the sidelines most of the time and letting the Pokemon you catch along the way fill in your team.

Conclusion: Let's Go is a step in the right direction for a series which had, for me, begun to get bloated and stale in recent years. It does remove some mechanics from the game like Z-moves and held items, but most of them were nuisances and relatively pointless to 90% of players. The focus has been placed on what Pokemon is really about: collecting lots of creatures, developing a great team and battling through the game. If you're someone who plays Pokemon competitively and loves managing all the mechanics of later gens, I would skip this title, but otherwise it gets a recommendation to players of all ages from me.

Catching Pokemon is fun (I use the Pokeball Plus FYI since I bought that version) and it's more engaging than previous titles due to this. Also considering it's hugely based off of Go, the goal is to catch as many Pokemon as possible, and you send them to Professor Oak who in turns gives you stat candy to raise the stats of your Pokemon, ditching the old ways of Stat Increasing items which were limited and extremely hard to grind Post-Game in older titles. My only complaints are the forced handholding this game gives you to help you find your next objective, but since I'm a Gen 1 veteran I'd obviously find that annoying considering I have gone through this story before. Seeing the Kanto region dressed up the way it is in this game is it's strongest highlight, as it reignites levels of nostalgia even after 20 years and FR/LG, having your Pokémon follow you around on this platform like HG/SS is really cool to see again, along with the way you can ride larger Pokémon like Arcanine & Onix in place of the bicycle. The only mechanic that meshes well from GO, is the way in which you interact with the wild Pokémon and visually see what you are about to run into and have a chance at catching.

But, this game is way too simplistic. It is way too easy, it revolves around Pokémon GO mechanics and strips away everything that everyone came to love the series over. No EV training, no hold items, no abilities, no daycare breeding, no wild encounter battling, trainer battles garner little XP and can practically be skipped in favour of just catching the same Pokémon over and over again as it will deliver more XP, 90% of the time, the Safari Zone has been replaced with this awful Pokémon GO complex that is useless to players who dropped GO when it died in 2016, and Mew is obtainable if you pay more money than others, and replacing supplements with candies makes it too easy to change the stats of Pokémon in your party.

    + High levels of nostalgia
    + Redesign is excellent
+ Pokémon walk with you again
+ Wild Pokémon mechanic works well
+ Pokéball Plus is cool, and should be a hit with younger audiences

    - Way too easy and simplistic
    - No EV training
    - No hold items
    - No breeding
    - No incentive to battle trainers
    - Catching Pokémon like Pokémon GO is awful
    - No Safari Zone
    - Candies replace supplements
    - Pokéball Plus lacks buttons to use alone
    - Mew is bought and not found
    - Not much in the way of post-game content

Overall, this is fine for newcomers and for trying to connect the GO playing population to the mainline series, but fans of the mainline series of games will find themselves a shell of a game that they are used to. In my eyes this is a weird hybrid project that I will be sure to avoid next time, barely passes, in my opinion.

An over simplified version of pokemon with the visuals we wanted for the real Pokemon games. No challenge and appealing to new audiences while neglecting the fans

a truly disappointing game that is directed at a hopeful new generation of pokemon player, neglecting those who already love the series. Also dumbed down to an insulting degree,

Game's a blast, awesome remixes, got rid of major annoyances like random encounters and the need of a HMO slave Pokemon.
Very fun and totally recommend to anyone old and new to the series.

Do not believe the review bombing. It is a good game.
It is far from perfect, yes, basically because of the limitations present in the game it is based on. There was no significant innovation on the original title (Pokemon Yellow).
Even then, it is a competent HD remaster, with a ton of nostalgia for the Pokemon fans.
The new capture mechanic is a breath of fresh air. I love it.

This is a very good reboot of the Pokemon main titles, with some improvements that a lot of people will like.

Refreshing change to the series. No more grinding wild pokemon, candies given directly to you. Pokemon Company finally removed all the clutter from the game and worked on real mechanics, rather than a luck based game. Its nice to see a game that managed to remove tediousness and add interesting gameplay.

Let's Go would make a very good free software to be attached to the Pokeball+ or even a tech demo (again, available for free) to drum up excitement before the next big Pokemon release. The first remake, FireRed/LeafGreen, had much more content available for a lower price (and a free dongle to trade wirelessly and play minigames) but even the original Red/Blue/Yellow is giving Let's Go run for its money when it comes to the value provided. Add to that performance issues like unstable framerate or unrefined motion controls, and it's very hard to justify the price tag to anyone who either respects his/hers money or the series itself.
While I don't condemn changes made to the game's formula in Let's Go, there being no way to adjust gameplay according to one's preferences, like turning back on wild Pokemon battles, turning off exp. share or simply allowing the players to use the ProController, builds an image of an unfinished product, which stands out in a bad way among (mostly) great games so far released by Nintendo on Switch.

Great game! It does surely revive that old feeling of the Kanto region with all the pokemon from then.

As someone who actually played it, and whinging fanboys aside, this game is actually really solid. It may not be the most content heavy title, but that doesn't make it less enjoyable to play. I've seen some people claim the framerate has issues but as someone who has actually played it, it is stable 99% of the time with the occasional dips for maybe a couple seconds here and there. I don't think it's a big deal and I barely notice it. There's also no real "paywalls" either, since the only content locked behind a paywall is a children's peripheral that holds a Pokémon, that has no bearing on completing the Dex, and is outclassed in combat by various other 'mons.

The fanboys are brigading, but maybe they should actually play the game before leaving a review. Waa waa waa.

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It's a simple, cute and fun game that will keep you hooked for hours. An excellent starting point for newcomers, and a great nostalgia trip for those in a search for one.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
