Upon its reveal pre-E3, I was skeptical of the connections between pokemon go, yet the only significance is the new wild encounters which provide a shift in dynamic from trainer battles in a refreshing new way. I would not advocate for its return, yet it provides originality to Let's Go and keeps the gameplay brisk and constantly moving forward. Wild battles have stayed relatively similar with some simplifications with the removal of held items and abilities which remove some strategy, however, it can be interesting to veterans when you ca earthquake a Gengar and one shot a Geodude without the annoying study appear. Like pokemon go, you can encounter wild pokemon in the field which is one of the best additions to Pokemon Let's Go, which I definitely would love to see return along with the following pokemon. All of this together creates the most alive and vivid world in a pokemon game ever, it is just sad the NPC's are soulless puppets and characters turn at an awkward 90 degree angles.

Overall the story stays true to the original tales of Pokemon Yellow yet add many moment to the story that enhance the story, increase the quality of life, and provides cool nods to previous regions such as Alola which will be a refreshing sight to people who were introduced to pokemon in the best pokemon game on the 3DS, Pokemon Sun and Moon. Like Pokemon Yellow, you adventure with a partner pokemon, which can Pikachu and Eevee depending n the version. These pokemon are surprisingly powerful throughout with incredible stats, movesets and lovably adorable cries when petting them and feeding them food. They both shine in the cutscenes that appear throughout the story that help to characterize the region and the connection between the trainer and the partner. The worlds the story takes place in has never looked better in a pokemon game with beautiful colours that pop from the screen in both Tv and handheld mode, and the explorations of old towns in beautiful Hd with superb orchestrated music such as the cerulean city theme and the battle themes are a joy to any pokemon enthusiast.

Pokemon Let's Go has impressed me on so many levels that has made my journey through the game one of the most enjoyable pokemon adventures for a while. I hope that gamefreak has learned that a great pokemon adventure comes from freedom, exploration and natural storytelling through the region, rather than a 2-hour introduction to catching pokemon and pages of dialogue that is irrelevant. I absolutely loved pokemon lets go and cannot wait for what the pokemon company can do now with the Nintendo switch and a brand new pokemon adventure in 2019.

I like the catching mechanic although sometimes it is inaccurate (I use a joy-con) and there are plenty of trainer battles to enjoy.

I'm 30 hours into the game right now and I only defeated 4 gyms so there is much to do and you can go as fast or slow through the game as you want.
If you like pokémon and can look past some of the features (or lack of) then there is a big chance you'll have a great time!

Expand

I Love the game. Best version of Kanto ever. Red/Blue were my first games and this is a great game for original players who fell off and new players who have never played before. Maybe not if you spent 100+ hours in the every pokemon game ever, becouse this game is not as difficult as the last few. But it is way more fun!

Having said that, i think it gets easier the more you catch the same species, i didnt miss the wild battles, i even felt there was too many trainers that i couldnt avoid. The problem with people who give reviews of 1 or 0, is they didnt play the game enough, they just hate the idea, but i think it works, i hope they translate this in the next game, the only con i found is that is only gen 1, because i would love to see every single pokemon in this new world. As time went by the number of people playing it decreased but, the community was still strong because of all the improvements made to it. Early this year the Pokemon Company announced two new Pokemon games which were an untitled Gen 8 Pokemon game and Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu. Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee are basically remakes of Pokemon Yellow and the main difference with this game and the original was the graphical upgrade and the gameplay would integrate a lot of elements introduced in Pokemon Go. Like the popularity of Pokemon Go the announcement of these Let’s Go games were mixed. After playing Let’s Go Pikachu I now consider this one of my favorite Pokemon games I have ever played.

Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee storywise are the same thing; the only difference is the starter you get in the beginning. The game starts with you and your rival visiting Professor Oak and getting your respective Pokemon and in my case I got Pikachu. Now after getting your Pokemon your adventure begins; which means you catch Pokemon in the wild, train them, eventually face a gym leaders, battle the elite 4, and finally face off with the champion and that's game. This game also has you encountering Team Rocket a number of times and stopping them from doing mischievous deeds. This game also features returning Team Rocket members Jessie and James many are familiar with via Pokemon Yellow or the Pokemon anime. While storywise this game is pretty straightforward, there are many times during the game where moments with certain character enhanced the experience. It was pretty neat to see Blue again, and there was a really nice moment with Lorelei that helped make her stand out more other than just being an Elite 4 member.

Battles was something many were worried about because as much as I enjoyed Pokemon Go, the battle weren't exactly the best part of the game. And with the information being released about no more battling wild Pokemon the question was how will we gain experience in this game. There are main trainers you encounter as you go from city to route to cave to city. As for wild Pokemon themselves you only are able to catch them like you did in Pokemon Go and the process is literally the same where you can give Pokemon berries and the effect of each berry is different. If you are using a joy con you just fling the control in the direction the Pokemon is or if you are playing in handheld you can aim the throw with the control stick or use the gyro and then press A to throw the ball. Which begs the question why you can’t use your Pro Controller in this game because the controller does have gyro and what not. A really great feature added to this game with wild encounterment is that Pokemon can be seen in the overworld, so now you just have to go after the Pokemon you want instead of getting the same thing again and again.

As for complaints I have with this game, I do think this is the easiest Pokemon game I have ever played, and with your starters its makes this game a joke. Your starters can learn new type of moves for example Eevee can learn Fire, Water, Dark, Psychic, Ice, and Fairy Type moves and some of them have guarantee status ailments, and some moves can have Eevee go first every time. It’s also unfortunate that abilities are not present in this game because the intention with this game is to welcome newcomers and people nostalgic towards the original game, and in order to do that is by not bringing in the new features introduced in later games. Which I understand why the developers decided to go that route, but for me Pokemon always felt like a nice introduction into RPG’s and the fact that the developers took out features introduced in recent games that weren’t really that complicated to understand, I just fine funny.

This game has been talked bad about by a lot of fans of Pokemon. That hasn’t stopped the success of this game and really I am glad that it is doing well. This game was easy and I was fine with that. I needed a game like this because I don’t always want to play a game where you have to focus on a lot happening and in this game it was simple: catch Pokemon, battle trainers, and win that's it. This was a nice nostalgia trip for me too because I did grow up watching and playing Pokemon and this was just a great time. If the Pokemon Company wants to make more Let’s Go games true be told I would be fine with it because I know that the main series Pokemon games are still coming. Gen 8 will not play like Let’s Go but, I do hope that some features like wild Pokemon showing up in the wild is a returning feature. The music in this game is fantastic and another thing that is exciting me for Gen 8. I would recommend people to try out Pokemon Let’s Go because it is a really great time, and they may have the same feeling coming out after playing it which is excitement for what is to come for Pokemon on Switch.

There are some aspects of the game that I like. For example, I believe that you are able to choose which Pokemon you want to catch instead of random encounters is nice and I preferably quite like it. I also think that because of the new combo feature and the Shiny Charm, it makes catching shiny Pokemon more enjoyable and easier rather than spending hours on end trying to find that one shiny Pokemon you were looking for. There are many features that are unpleasant and disappointing about this game as well. I found this game to be quite fun when I was playing it. I liked battling all the gyms and battling the Elite Four again, but after that I quickly lost interest in the game. I myself am not a shiny hunter so that takes the aspect of "chaining" as I call it and filling up the PokeDex out of the question. The "Master Trainers" don't provide a interesting thing to do after the game, and Team Rocket does a lousy job of trying to battle your trainer again after the game. Overall, I am disappointed in the post game adventure unlike Sun, Omega Ruby, and X. I also am not a fan of the catching mechanism that Game-freak used in this game. I find myself using too many Pokeballs and infuriating myself on how Pokemon somehow instantaneously flee from battles breaking my chains. I am used to spending 1-3 Pokeballs in the other core games rather than 7-9 Pokeballs in this game. I also dislike how there are only 151 core Pokemon in this game (excluding the legendary, special Pokemon, and the Alolan Pokemon). This makes for the game to be somewhat boring and tiring going through. I honestly think there is a lack of story line here both in game and post game. The way that Game-freak merged the game with Pokemon Go was disappointing and unpleasant for the core gamers. Overall, I think you should give this game a try. It's not only my opinion that shapes your mind to whether you want to buy the game or not. I think it should not be called a core series game and more of a sub-series game. Disappointing overall. sigh...I am just so upset and worried at this point after playing Let's Go. It has so little content and many of the wonderful things that made the game progressively better were suddenly removed (held items, abilities, a ton of moves, BREEDING?!?!, fishing, day/night, wild battles, exp share off/on option, a developed story...) it is just so bare...SO bare that you can play and feel like you're the loneliest person on the planet. I want to attack and fight with my pokemon, not throw balls all day....but that is just me. I worry for the future...I hope they don't use these simplifications for the next game to be released because that will be crushing.
On a positive note...this game having an IV checker is fantastic and I like being able to easily tell how good or bad my catch is...that is about the only addition I was thrilled with though.
Please...PLEASE, Nintendo...also realize we are grown-ups now for the most part...intrigue us with something a bit darker if possible next time, or just keep the strategy alive so we are stimulated....

This is an unnecessary remake. We already have a remake, why need another on? I hate how you have to catch Pokemon like you do in Pokémon Go. Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and Gen 7 are better than this. Thus game feels lazy, to be honest.

The fact that you can longer battle wild pokemons automatically makes this a different game. I like how every Pokemon in the group gets exp though. Nice graphic. Expected a bit more of the game. With all that said and done the game is visually very pretty and it is fun to run around the Kanto region again. The catching mechanic of using Pokemon GO isn't my favorite but it does bring something fresh to the console. Although time to time when you throw a pokeball it will not register as well and may go way out of area originally desired to go, but that only occured for me maybe once or twice.

The Battle is just about the same as any of Pokemon game just minus not being able to battle wild pokemon. Which i will admit i was a little disappointing from time to time that i couldn't battle them but that alone did not ruin my experience.

When Let's Go was announced, my initial thought was "meh, looks ok I guess". After having it and playing though, its literally probably the most fun I've had in a Pokemon game IN QUITE A WHILE. Yes it's true that there are features missing that the original main series games have, but let me say this: This. Is. Not. A. Main. Series. Game. At all.
This is the in-between spinoff filler game that we get while we wait for gen 8. This is an entry-level game designed specifically for parents/kids/genwunners that started or got back into the franchise with Go.

It literally isn't designed for longtime fans, but it has the nostalgia kick that will still bring them in. Not only that, but the features it lacks from the original, it more than makes up for with all the new features it adds.
And there are a lot, with most being what people have been requesting for a while! (following pokemon, overworld flying, buddy pokemon, overworld encounters, it goes on).
Not to mention, the features it lacks from the original make sense for what it is (a which is, a Go combo game). Personally, I love when Pokemon steps away from its usual, redundant formula. This game is like a vacation to me.
The fact that I can skirt around an encounter is fantastic, and this is the best game I've played for shiny hunting so far hands down. I love having Pokemon following me again and hell I even like the Pokeball controller. To me, its reminiscent of the HG/SS days.
Its an easy game, because again, its entry level and wasn't meant for you. Its obviously designed to be super casual, NON-COMPETITIVE, and with young kids in mind. I would still even love to see some of the features return for a main series. It just blows my mind how veterans are having such bad reactions, because honestly, what did you expect?

Is it a cash grab? Absolutely! Thats Pokemon's entire marketing scheme. Does it work? Absolutely! The sales on the games are doing extremely well. Why is that necessarily a bad thing?

The point: Don't write off the Let's Go games just because people are being negative nancys. Its fun. Let people enjoy things.

Sure, some decisions are hard to understand, and the game struggles to find a personality with all the changes and trying to appeal to different crowds, which is why my score's not higher. But they're still thoroughly enjoyable and I'd recommend them to anyone with a slight interest in Pokémon, both new and old fans. Just take them for what they are: a snack before the main course in 2019.

This is the best Pokemon game I've played since X and Y, titles that really added something new to the series and made it interesting again. Wasn't a fan of Sun/Moon and the spin-offs but this game hits almost all the right notes.

    PROS:
+ The graphics are incredible! Still looks like the Pokemon we know and love but got significantly updated to run on the Switch and this game looks FANTASTIC in docked mode on a big TV.
+ The story is fun! It's not QUITE a remake of Pokemon Yellow (on purpose), but it comes very close while adding its own spin on some of the story.
+ You can get the Alolan versions of First Gen Pokemon in-game.
+ Unnecessary wild Pokemon encounters are GONE. You can now see exactly what's running around and choose to encounter it or not. Wild Pokemon battles are also gone (except for Snorlax and Legendaries I believe). You don't have to fight every single Pokemon to catch it anymore, you just complete the catching mini-game. Normal trainer battles still exist and are aplenty, don't worry! It's SURPRISINGLY fun to skip the unnecessary grind and just focus on the battles that really matter.
+ Your partner Pokemon makes the game incredibly personal and adds another layer of cuteness. You can change clothes, hairstyles and accessories on your Pikachu/Evee and match your outfits! You can also play with your partner, which will get you some rewards.
+ This game finally got rid of having to teach your Pokemon moves like fly/surf/cut etc. and having to have them in your party in case you need them. Your partner Pokemon learns all these moves in a special selection screen so no space is taken up in your attack selection and Pikachu/Evee can still use them even if they aren't in your party. You can still obtain those moves and teach them to Pokemon if you want, but they don't need to be removed by the move deleter!
+ There is no need to run to Pokemon centers to change your party anymore! You constantly carry your Pokemon box around with you and can change your party whenever you like. You can send Pokemon directly from your box to Professor Oak for candy rewards that will help improve your Pokemon.
+ Unnecessary on-screen notifications such as "would you like to name the Pokemon you just caught" have been removed and you can now name your Pokemon whenever and wherever you want, as many times as you want.
+ Movement is fluid, and you can have another Pokemon as well as your partner outside the pokeball. Some of these (the big ones) can be ridden or even flown on! Moving around on Charizard for example makes you move much faster.
+ The pokemon outside your ball will help you find items hidden in the world and your Pikachu/Evee's tale will wag if you're close to a hidden item.

    NEUTRAL:
+/- The Pokeball accessory is quite expensive but in my opinion worth it. I absolutely enjoy playing the game with it and hardly ever use another controller. It fits well in the hand and is of excellent quality. You can also use it to level your Pokemon up outside the game while walking or link it to Pokemon GO for extra rewards.

    CONS:
    - There is no breeding in the game, which is a shame.
    - No GTS system, which is a major step backwards for the series and trading with people you don't know is a pain.
    - There's one Pokemon Go exclusive Pokemon you cannot get just through playing Pokemon Let's Go, and I think that's a mistake. All Pokemon should be obtainable in the one game you bought (and the other version) without having to play Pokemon Go.

I was very skeptic before trying this game but I have to say it was worth every cent and a breath of fresh air in the series. Unlike Fallout 76, it just WORKS. And to the people giving this game 0/10 after saying in their review they really enjoyed the main campaign but were disappointed with the endgame content: that is not how scores work. Post-game content is an extra bit added to the end of the game. If you really enjoyed the game up until then, that is an unfair score to give and I don't know how you justify it. For anyone looking for fun, engaging game-game content, Pokemon Let's Go is absolutely worth a try!

I didn't like the direction the game seemed to be going because I had played ALL of the Pokemon main series games since Red/Blue and on paper, Let's Go looked like it was going to be empty. My girlfriend absolutely wanted to play it because it worked with Pokemon Go and she's a bit of Pokemon super fan. I told her many times, I am not buying that garbage.

So with a lot of hesitation, I ended up buying the game. Not just the game either. The Pokeball Plus edition because I'm a sucker for Pokemon and MegaMan collectibles... I have played about 6 hours since the 18th of November and I have to say, I am really impressed. I didn't think there were going to be as many trainer battles because I really thought the idea behind Let's Go was to be a critter-catching game. The amount of trainer battles leaves me satisfied (sometimes even annoyed that there are so many). The motion controls are actually kind of fun. They aren't complicated at all. Press the 'A' button and pretend to throw your joy-con. That's it, you threw a Pokéball.

My girlfriend has played over 17 hours already, which is kind of why I haven't played more than 6 or 7. She enjoyed Pokemon UltraSun but found that the battling was a lot to take in when all she is used to is mind-numbingly tapping on a screen from playing Pokemon Go. No matter how long I sat next to her playing UltraSun it was just confusing for her at times. With Pokemon Let's Go, I can play with her in the same game and I can kind of teach her things as well as have a new activity for us to do on a lazy weekend.

As someone who has played literally all of the main series games, am I 100% satisfied with Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu?
No it has its flaws. I do miss being able to put wild Pokemon to sleep, to make them easier to catch. This whole berry system just doesn't feel right but if you are familiar with the Pokemon Go system, then don't worry about it.

Would I want to see the next main series games have the same wild 'battle' system, catching system and berry systems in it?
Hell no. The catching system can be an option because I know there are players that enjoy it way more than just mashing the 'A' button. Sometimes it's cool, sometimes it's annoying. I'm 50/50 with it. Wild Pokemon battles NEED to come back and the Berry system should go back to how it is in the main game where they are used to heal, and strengthen (among other functionalities) your Pokemon.

Is the PokeBall Plus worth it? Fun to play with? Useful?
No it isn't worth it, I'm just a sucker for Pokemon gizmos and gadgets however it is actually pretty fun to play Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu with it. I have relatively big hands so a Joy-con is pretty uncomfortable to hold whereas the PokeBall Plus being, well a ball, is easy to hold. It's kind of cool that it works with Pokemon Go too. I can put a pokemon from Let's Go Pikachu "in" the PokeBall plus, and when I go play Pokemon Go with my girlfriend, whatever Pokemon I put in will earn experience points based on what I do in Pokemon Go, from catching Pokemon, spinning Pokestops, walking etc.
So it kind of made me enjoy Pokemon Go a little more which is cool for my girlfriend and Let's Go got my girlfriend into the RPGs a little more which is cool for me.

I really enjoy Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and I'm glad I bought it. I look forward to completing it. If you're reluctant to buy it, then rent it, borrow it, or play at a friend's house. It's really worth playing.

At first, the game hits the nostalgia very hard that it is almost impossible for me to dislike the game as a long time fan. Everything remains faithful to the original game. The new graphics are very cute and adorable. I love the movement of my favorite Pokemon, Pikachu. And as I kept plaything this game again, I felt like a child again.

Now if you're fine with Gamefreak/Nintendo saying "All the fans need to see is that it has Pokemon in the title" then by all means I guess this game is for you. If you're fine with them putting in less and less effort in every subsequent iteration of your favorite franchise then by all means throw your hard earned cash at them and see this the video games sink into mobile/casual territory. The Director himself said in an interview that "People/Kids are used to mobile games and watching games on youtube", so by his defintion, you the consumer have the attention span of an ant to even be able to enjoy fully fleshed out video games and would probably just enjoy watching beautiful scenery than actually playing the games. But enough about that.

See the problem with the games is, its a switch game, not only that but its pokemons debut game for the console itself. Its priced at 60$ which is 20$ more than the previous games and it has less content. This is a fact. Stripping the other pokemons itself is already a huge chunk of the content out of the games. FR/LG had sevii islands in the post-game, HG/SS had the battle frontier, OR/AS had soaring, mirage islands, battle-resort, Delta episode then LGPE has well.. 1 on 1 with a bunch of trainers just re-scattered around kanto. I get it they want to lure in the Go community and the people that left the games a long time ago but at the cost of alienating your LOYAL fanbase. That a bit of a kick in the nuts. Why couldn't they find a middle ground to make the games appealing to both and then again by the way they designed this game it shouldn't even be appealing to the casual-fanbase, in truth its insulting, basically them saying that the games in its current state, a childrens game btw is too much for other people to handle so they had to dumb it down even for grown adults to enjoy? ridiculous. but hey people will probably just eat this up because its pokemon and its pretty.

If you're a long time fan of the series and no matter how much this game looks appealing to you, just think about what this game means for the future of the series. Speak out, vote with your wallet. Maybe you won't feel the effects yet by the already announced gen 8 title, but at somepoint gamefreak is going to realize even without putting any effort into these games that they will sell, I assure you the video games will become shells of its former self. Im sure alot already feels this way with the 3DS games.

Another thing that they did was remove the Safari Zone, and you can tell that this seems to have been done late in game development because they didn't replace the dialog for a lot of NPCs in Fuchsia City. I played all of the GameBoy (Original/Color/Advance) games and I found this title to not live up to expectations. Another somewhat annoying thing is that you can't skip the credits when you beat the Elite Four, so grinding them to reach level 100 isn't going to be any fun. If this was a $30 title with the previously listed issues, I would probably rate this game 7/10 mostly for nostalgia's sake. I wasn't against a return to Kanto in the slightest when leaks started happening that made it appear to be the case. But it should have been a BotW or Odyssey outing. A return to the series roots to build up with all of the content that had been present since the originals and more new content.

Instead we get a game worse than a nearly 15 year old remake that wasn't that great itself objectively speaking.

Graphic style is fine, following Pokémon is a nice return but this is a game and the game play is SEVERELY lacking. Especially for a the price. This is what should have been an easy mode in a full content game sold separately for people who don't know better or can't help themselves.

I love Pokémon. Have played the series for about 65 THOUSAND hours over the last 20 years and this is not at all what I ever wanted Pokémon to be. The last few weren't impressive but to say they were outright bad would have been a lie. Just barely a lie in the case of the most recent brand new games, but a lie nonetheless when considering the game play alone. The same is not true here.

To be a little more specific:
-Level design which makes children characters look like they're either 7 foot tall and 8 foot around or building look like they're 5 and a half feet tall and 6 and a half feet wide as opposed to being much more reasonably sized comparitively in the actual gameboy games they're based on.
    -Terrible mobile game controls.
    -Lack of wild battles.
-No random encounters making the grass utterly pointless to have included
-Everything appearing in the overworld and with little animations build up and cause extreme graphic lag the 3DS games already only hit 30 at best and now you get about 15.
-Stat system is ridiculously OP even beyond what the originals were.
-Messes up the previous game's storyline entirely by introducing these into the same story without any explanation as to what's happened to change things.
-Requirements on gyms. Some of which don't just teach you the game like some erroneously argue since it requires you to have very specific stuff even when those things are NOT the only way you could do it. They're teaching you only part of the game which I'm sure will lead to confusion on the part of any new players they might be targeting with this. To be clear, I know this isn't needed at all. Tens of millions of people have figured all of this out just fine on their own even as very young children - there are world championships for children if they can understand the metagame they can play casually without issue - but even accepting that as the intent, it's been done wrong. And done worse than the previous remakes which had the Teachy TV item for this and should have just been kept in and updated but is one of the dozens of things that these games have continued to leave out instead.
-One of the Pokémon can only be obtained from physical DLC - a controller which has limited functionality than the ones it replaces and doesn't work with any other game.
-You cannot access 80% of the only characters who matter AT ALL.

And I could go on but I think I've gone on long enough.

If you like what the series is you should not buy this. Game Freak's track record is to let each content lesser game define what the next ones will be because they have admitted to wanting yearly games at the cost of quality. You will get something worse than this if you let them know you will buy it no matter what.

If you think you might want to transition to the other games from this? You should not buy this. The originals are available on 3DS and will actually wean you in where this is the furthest thing from the modern main series they've created to date.

Like Go? You shouldn't buy it. I may not like it but you already have access to a superior and much more cost worthy version of this game.

Are you a child or thinking about buying it for children? Do not buy this. Go buy the recent 3DS games. While they're certainly not the best of the series, you/they will find this game entirely condescending with it's baby talk and probably dislike anyone involved in buying it for them. You have a much more cost effective way to appease them and not treat yourself/them like mental invalids in the 3DS games.

Are you nostalgic for Gen 1? Do not buy this game. It has a host of many things you do not want that were not in the originals. If you want straight Kanto HD this is not the game for you. Once again, the 3DS has what you're looking for on it's Virtual Console at a much better price point.

It's a good game even if you have been playing Pokémon since gen 1. Also, we veterans are not the target of this games. All the negative scores comes from haters complaining about it being the Kanto from gen1 again for what I have read. Let's Go has some good innovations that could be implemented in future "main" games but they won't because of haters not being fair with this game.

This bombing reviews are getting out of hand. I understand them for games like Fallout 76 and Star Wars battle front, when just the game wasn't ready to launch, lacks content or abuse of predatory loot boxes practices. Pokemon Let's Go is different, Nintendo let know that this wasn't the main line hardcore series and that they are working on the next generation.

Here is a review by a casual Pokemon Fan (Played and finished Yellow and Crystal back in the day) .

Pokemon Let's Go is a beautiful game that captures Kanto in an splendid 3D World. For me is just nostalgic coming back to this first generation and see Pokemon with such graphics. About gameplay, I was really reluctant about the new catching mechaninc. I didn't played Pokemon Go because of that. But it saves a lot of time and maintain players focusing in the story, the battles and the journey. For that part I'm glad that grinding time has been cut. May be this was one of the reason's I didn't finish any other pokemon game. When you grow up you don't have much time to play. Battles are fun and challenging. I like how I see my co workers bringing their Nintendo Switch and asking you to trade or battle. A lot of people may have experience this with Pokemon GO (Really I don't know how the game is), but I think is still refreshing on Pokemon Let's Go.

Hardcore Pokemon fans, this game is not for you if you look for the grind. Everybody else, I think this is a good chance to go back to Kanto and experience Pokemon. BE the very best like no one ever was. Have fun.

In addition, the Go catching mechanics are tedious rather than being challenging or engaging. All of this makes the game have next to no replay value I can understand making a one-off game for newcomers, but REALLY hope these negative changes don't carry over to future main-series games. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pokemon Let's Go is a great overall experience. I personally love the new wild Encounter system, as it makes me, as a core Pokemon player who has played every game thus far, want to battle every trainer, instead of avoiding them in some places. For everything that has been removed in this game when compared with core Pokemon, Gamefreak and Nintendo make up for it with new systems. The Catch Chaining encounter system is the easiest way by far to get those desired 4IV+ Pokemon for competitive players, and players can lock in Natures for every wild encounter instead of having about a 50% rate in previous games. Most people on here with 1's and 0's for their score really have never played the game at all, and just want to hate on it. If you don't believe me, check out some articles and reddit posts about it. Nonetheless, this game is a total breath of fresh air and I hope Nintendo realizes just how good the new wild encounter system is. Don't let the name fool you, this game plays EXTREMELY close to a core Pokemon game, with a little bit of Go mixed in. I like the direction Nintendo took with this one, and I am having more fun in this game than I have ever before in a Pokemon game. Expand

The only real problem I had was how the game was marketed, but the marketing does not affect the game.
Pokemon lets go is a truly fun experience for all ages, also the game hit over 3 million copies sold in the first week, which is a record on the Nintendo switch, meaning it beat Mario Odyessy and Zelda botw in the amount of units sold on the first week.

There are a bunch of Easter eggs and throwback moments that bring a smile to my face when I see them. Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to catch Pokemon by actually throwing the Pokeball myself and I can finally do that in this game. It did take awhile to adjust to throwing the ball to the sides. Stripping the battles from encounters stings but i'm happy that there are still battles against trainers and legendary Pokemon. Playing co-op with a friend and battling alongside them is a welcomed feature. The master trainers are also a fun challenge. I found myself trying out a variety of different Pokemon on my team because progression is VERY quick and it's easy to become overpowered right from the beginning. The extra details in the towns and the gyms always had me on the lookout for what else might be hiding in the game. It's the simple things like a Meowth sleeping on top of a cave entrance that get to me. I play Let's Go for what it is and it's a game for newcomers. Expand

Cara, isso me enfurece.

    Enfim, é isto.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was going to give this a 4/5, but to be honest, theirs no reason this game should have recieved anything less then a 3/5 if being objective. For a cash grab, this isn't fallout 76.

This game is a remake of Pokemon Yellow. My opinion is somewhat skewed as I did actually have issues with the original. I've never liked random encounters, so seeing the pokemon on the overworld is a huge step in the right direction for me (love the tales franchise who started doing this with Symphonia). Also, theirs 151 pokemon in these base games and for me the battle system gets a little old when simply wanting to add a new pokemon to your party is a random encounter grind until you find the one you want, then using the traditional battle system to balance weakening the pokemon enough to catch while trying not to kill it... and this was a nightmare for the legendary birds who you only got 1 chance at. So removing the battle system from the capturing aspects is also a plus for me. It takes away some of the grind and makes battles more fun because you don't have the chance to get really tired of it.

The graphics are solid. I haven't seen any bugs myself that some others have reported, but take those bugs away (haven't heard of any major bugs) and you have a very colorful and vibrant world to explore that is reasonably detailed. The sound effects and music are also fine, although nothing amazing.

Exp share. This was a fundamental flaw with the original pokemon games. in Yellow, if your leveling pokemon up, you MUST have them participate in every battle to get experience from that battle. When you have a party of 6, and you must fight wild pokemon to level up, this just made the grind even more ridiculous. If just a single pokemon your leveling, you would put them up front and then switch at the beginning of battle (they don't have to do damage, just come out) to level them fast. If you have multiple pokemon to level, it was simply best to do one at a time and took forever. That's gone, as now every pokemon in your party gains xp. You can also switch pokemon in and out of your party without having to return to town.

If people didn't want to see the capture aspects simplified, they shouldn't have supported GO. Objectively, it's a bit boring to catch pokemon in this way and i truly feel they could have changed this from the traditional battle system to something similar to this but with more depth to it and the majority would have been ok. They really should have spent a little more time to it. That being said, i hope they continue to improve on it in future games (or updates).

I don't agree with putting a $60 tag on ports and remakes. This and the resident evil remake on gamecube brought enough change to consider it a remake, but they aren't terribly new experiences. I feel a $40 tag would fit better. Still, while this is a cash grab (in fact, all pokemon games are a cash grab, doesn't mean they are bad), it isn't shoddily done like Fallout 76 and it isn't an attempt to sell a mobile title to a pc playerbase as if it's some huge event they should care about (the Diablo name would have sold itself on mobile, didn't have to piss those pc guys off.) I don't see any of the typical cash grab schemes with this game other then just feeding off nostalgia, and that isn't a bad thing.

I hope they keep most of the new systems for the new *full* Pokemon games coming out for switch later on. Wholeheartedly recommend it if you like Pokemon.

Since this game was announced, I've seen nothing but optimistic posts about how I don't know this game will be terrible and if I don't like it, don't buy it. But I did buy it, because I need to be able to be fair in my assessment. So here's a list of all the good things it does. Don't worry, it's not a long list: Team Rocket and Chaining is easier.

But I did buy it, because I need to be able to be fair in my assessment. So here's a list of all the good things it does. Don't worry, it's not a long list: Team Rocket and Chaining is easier.

What's terrible about it? Well there's so much that it's really hard to say for certain, but I have to be honest, its worst, and most heinous crime is being boring. Fantastically amazingly boring. Beyond that, the game has removed features that have been a series staple for 16 years, items, abilities, and about 656 monsters, most of which I really like. What did we get in its place? Watered down, milquetoast Pokemon Yellow. Yellow was 20 years ago and by virtue of its limitations still quite charming. This is anything but. Every two out of three balls will miss, guaranteed, wasting time, wasting money. The few quality of life features the games do have are overshadowed by the game's major problems. Additionally if you are familiar with Pokemon go, the rules for a monster fleeing are different, and can happen anytime instead of just after a failed catch.

But why is it important to give this game a bad reputation? Because this laziness, this pandering to the lowest common denominator could become the way the rest of the series is. Imagine Pokemon 9 with even less new monsters than XY or Sun and Moon, with more restrictive movement than Final Fantasy XII. That's what this game could portend. However, maybe Morimoto will be the director from now on. Fire Musada and promote Morimoto

If the goal was to play a game my nephew can enjoy, then it did just that. On it's own, it feels like it misses what made other games great. It just feels as if someone turned on easy mode. The catching mechanic is just terrible as well.

This game is incredible, for longtime veterans of the franchise, newcomers to the series, AND those who have only ever played the first and/or second generations of games.

Anyone who played the originals will appreciate the gorgeous graphics and orchestral soundtrack. Gamefreak has perfectly captured the essence of the original games, and included some of the improvements of the mainline franchise. After your second gym, you can pretty much go wherever you want, fighting gyms in any order you want, foiling team rocket's plans along the way, and eventually make your way to the elite four. It's nothing special, but despite being marketed towards a younger generation, the game holds your hand FARRR less than the previous 4 entries in Alola.

The story is just as it was in in the originals, although some points of the game are accentuated by appearances from elite four members, gym leaders in other towns, Jessie and James, and even multiple appearances by Blue, who is not your rival in these games, but is more of a wandering mentor, like Cynthia or Steven in some of the other gens. Anyone who's played HeartGold and SoulSilver will also recognize a certain Team Rocket admin by the name of Archer. There are simply too many references to the other games of the franchise to list, which makes perfect for veterans.

Those who love to hunt for shinies or the "perfect" pokemon will also not be let down in these games. IVs and EVs are both back, despite popular misconceptions. By catching the same pokemon repeatedly, you increase the stats of the next pokemon of that species. After 31 catches, the next catch is guaranteed to have perfect IVs in at least 4 stats, which is simply incredible. You could go even further, up to 100 catches of the same species, to guarantee maxed IVs, but there's always the bottlecap lady, who will max out any IV of a pokemon in exchange for a bottlecap, just like the previous games.

These games truly are a reimagining of the original Kanto games in the best possible way. There is a slight compatibility for Pokemon Go players, who can transfer their catches from Go into Let's Go, but it is completely optional, and can be ignored with no drawbacks. The capture mechanics, of course, have been changed from a battle, to throwing balls with proper timing. Personally, the motion controls of this game... are completely horrid. However, playing in handheld mode completely changes the game. You simply aim and shoot. Utterly, simple, perfection. It helps that it feels like you're playing a fully 3D game on a tablet shaped like a large GameBoy Advance. Even more nostalgia. And finally, Green is in the game. She is amazing. 10/10 game for that alone

Don't let their vapid negativity surrounding let's go Pikachu and Eevee fool you. It's gorgeous, has all the old Pokemon flavor any main series game had (minus the obvious catch mechanic switch up, which, while not better or worse than the turn by turn, wild battle encounter of past games, still serves to give the let's go vehicles a neat uniqueness), has countless trainer battles, cool emotional beats (I teared up at the cubone storyline), and an overall smooth play style that simultaneously updates old tropes and adds cool new features. Being able to run around zubats in Mt. Moon without destroying the environment with an ungodly amount of repels was a standout. Bringing back the Pokemon follow feature from heart gold and soul silver was amazing, especially since Pokemon are to scale now (Onix is freakin' huge).

I also imagine these games have fantastic cross-generational appeal. After all, some of those Pokemon fans of the original yellow just might have their own kids now, and with the new 2P system it could be a great way to spend time together. I'm speaking purely hypothetically since I do not have a kid of my own. Unless you count Eevee since she's just so gosh darn cute!

Are these games dumbed down? Maybe for those select Pokemon "fans" that spend their time making carbon copy teams of whoever's winning all those Pokemon championships with the same boring legendaries. But, it's a perfect game for those of us who simply like to play with our favorites, go on a bright and colorful journey, and watch Eevee pull a Parks and Recreation look towards the camera whenever Jessie and James start spouting nonsense. So don't let those presumably late 20's to early 30's naysayers dissuade you from buying a really fun game. They're pretty much akin to the pre-teen on Call of Duty who starts threatening to fornicate your mother because you're not playing the game correctly. They really just need an Eevee in their life.

    cons:

i missed the pokemon abilities and the item system (Pokemon can't hold items).
But the game is not designed in that way and next year comes generation 8. so i think i can live with that but i dont think these points were to "difficult" to understand für newbies. ;-)

The Joycon controls are a little bit to sketchy for my taste. I play mostly in Handheldmode and dont understand why they dont implement Pro-controller support. (maybe in future patches)

What i dont understand is the bad userscore. The game is so lovely and you can see that they tried to give all players something to love in this game. They said that there will be a 8 gen game next year.

But then it gets insanely old with no interesting storylines to keep us interested, and grinding for anything like a shiny is so monotonous, at least I used to have to go to the Pokemon canter to refresh PP. Battling and trying to catch a rare Pokemon used to pay off, now what's the point of training up? I can use every Pokemon I have at any time during the game, are there going to be events or expanded multiplayer? With the absence of held items, random battles, and everything else that made the main series different from every other knockoff, I feel like I'm playing a knockoff. If I wanted to just play anything with the Pokemon name on it, I'll pick up Pokemon Pinball again, even that has depth.

Really I'm just disappointed, this feels like a game that could have come out on my iPhone 5 years ago. Anyone who's played one of those online Pokemon MMO's knows the potential of this game. We could have seen real players walking around in game and spark up a battle in Viridian Forrest, or at least battle something. Why would you advertise or even hint at such potential and then deliver such a stripped down version, are they taking tips from Bethesda? lol. I really wish this game was fun. They've had me hooked since I was 10 and I want to play a great (or even good) Pokemon game, but this isn't it. Just download one of the knockoff Pokemon games on your app store, any of those will deliver about as much content.

I will say the music and graphics, etc. have improved, but who gave a hoothoot about that when playing Pokemon? Priorities are reversed, hopefully some of this feedback gets to the developers and they make a game for us again. This game is for children or people who have never played a Pokemon game or video game at all. If it was billed/marketed this way, there would be only a fraction of these poor reviews.

-co-op player can't interact with anything.
    -all battles become a 2v1 instead of a 2v2 when in co-op.
-Returning to Chibi models of XY.
-Less character customization than both SM and XY.
-Battle animations that are worse than Pokemon Stadium, a 20 year old game.
-Tons of cut corners for overworld character animations (some walk like robots in only 90 degrees, some just do a static jump to convey an action like hand chopping, some just have an emote quote bubble above their heads instead of giving them facial animations).
-Motion controls are forced despite portable mode not having it.
-You still can't skip cutscenes, only the very few CGI movies in the game
-Copy-pasted the story from Yellow but edited some parts to make it worse, like your "Friendly Rival".
-Instead of reimagining the region, they copied it 1:1 and just gave it a graphical paint job
-low effort "Master Trainers" being the only post game and is the most tedious grind in the entire franchise
-Legendaries feel like checklists instead of explorative hunts because they didn't change ANYTHING
-Instead of giving Mew its own in-game quest, they force you to buy a $50 useless peripheral

The only TWO postives about the game are them changing random encounters to physical encounters (which they should've done a long time ago) and following/riding pokemon. Both could have been done better though. The former has pokemon popping out of thin air so it feels unnatural and the latter just feel like robots that follow behind you except for the occasional scripted event where it "finds" an item. Riding pokemon just feel like a sprite swap with increased speed. It feels nothing like riding a horse in BotW. And it's annoying how they disppear every time you go near an NPC or ledge.

These games are absolutely terrible and the fact that it's getting such positive reception makes me fear where the future of the franchise is headed. Whatever happened to standards?

As a HUGE Pokemon fan, I have blind faith in the franchise and literally went out and bought a switch specifically at the prospect of a new Pokemon game, but unfortunately I have never been more disappointed. While the game is beautiful, Nintendo really took a HUGE step back here in gameplay... taking away abilities and held items is probably the biggest mistake they could have made and completely removes any form of depth from the game. Outside of typing, Let's Go has no meta game WHATSOEVER, which resulted in the most dumbed down, bland experienceI have had in a game in years...

I get that the idea here is to onboard new comers from Pokemon go so that the company can make as much money as possible, but this game does a terrible job at it because it actually a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT game from what the legit core series is about.

Coming from a Pokemon fanatic, it breaks my heart that I can't recommend this title to anyone

Yes, they know what Nintendo said about the game not being exactly like the others and, yes, they know about the mechanics that Nintendo said would not be in the game. With that said, that does not invalidate their entire review because, like everyone else, they had their own experience with the game and just want to share their thoughts. So, don't be so quick to down-vote. This is what reviews are for, to show an overall reception of a piece of media. So take in all of these reviews and form your own opinion about the game.

    ANYWAY,
I beat Pokemon Emerald in 3 days when I was 5 years old. That being said, Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu (and Eevee. They're the same game. Don't be a sucker and buy both) are dumbed down to the bear minimum.
    - Always on exp share (not a big issue though)
    - Pokemon GO wild battles
    - constant hand holding
    - friendly rival (because children are sensitive and words hurt I guess)
    - No abilities
    - No held items
    - Only first 151 Pokemon (plus Meltan and Melmetal)
    - No working game corner (because I guess that counts as gambling and we must shield the children)
It's almost as if Game Freak assumes that kids these days are getting dumber every year. The games were already easy and, now, they're just lifeless.

I don't have a problem with going back to Kanto because I really like Kanto. The issue lies in that there are no new places to go. In fact, places like the Sevii Islands have been taken out. Personally, I would have really like to visit Johto afterwards but I guess that was too much to ask for.

I also don't have a problem with wild pokemon appearing outside of battle rather than being randomly selected when running through tall grass. The issue with this, though, is that there are so many of them and, a lot of times, you will have your path blocked by randomly wandering wild pokemon whom you can't touch because then you'll be forced to play carnival ring toss with them.

The story is fairly the same as pokemon yellow with little to no change. You start out as a trainer in pallet town and end after beating the pokemon league. Simple. There is also no post game unless you think that "Master Trainers" actually qualifies for being post-game content. I don't see why Nintendo made a big fuss over master trainers. They're just 1v1 battles of the same pokemon and you get a title of that specific pokemon when you beat them but, those titles don't make sense in any context if you use more than one species of pokemon.

You can also try to complete the pokedex but that only works if you get mew who is locked behind a paywall. That's right! You have to buy the pokeball plus to acquire mew which is another $50 ($40 dollars if you buy the bundle pack) because, I guess, EA must've taken Nintendo aside and told them that consumers love getting screwed over at every turn.

Also, half the animations were quite literally ripped from SM/USUM so expect a lot of things to look familiar. ALSO, the graphics look sub-par. The switch is definitely capable of more than just SM/USUM graphics without the black outlines. So, that was unimpressive.

Character customization is pretty shallow despite being much better in previous titles on an inferior console. Once you pick your character appearance, you are not able to change anything about it from then on (hair style, color, eye color, etc.) You can still customize your outfit but, that has been dumbed down to just a few sets (some of which are version exclusive) and any attempt to mix and match between the sets never looks right.

The thing that I think this game does right is the music. The music is always top notch, largely because everything else is still conveyed through text. Taking the soundtrack up to orchestral level is always nice though.

Overall, this game is just... okay. It plays fine. It looks fine. However, once you beat it, there is no reason to ever come back. The online sucks and, now you need to buy a Nintendo Switch Online Subscription to even do something simple like that.

(TL;DR) Not worth $60. Designed to appeal to the very small brain stunted children. This game is Baddy Bad.

Pokemon Let's Go is a fun FILLER game in the long running series. Even so, some people don't seem to understand that there is a Main Series game coming in 2019.

I've been playing the Pokemon series since Pokemon Blue on the the original Brick Gameboy, and have loved the series ever since.

the real question here is, is that is this a good enough filler game, to keep fans happy until then? well...here's the thing.

Pokemon Let's Go was made for those who play Pokemon Go, on mobile devices ( I play the game casually on my phone every now and then) to essentially ease in/incentivize those casual players of the series to get onto the Main Series Pokemon titles (specifically the upcoming 2019 Switch title)

The game is easy (but of course it's going to be for those of us who are veterans in the series), but i still can't help but personally get some enjoyment out of Let's Go Eevee.

I love the updated graphics, i enjoy the cute cut-scenes that involve eevee, and i enjoy the fact that i can take my low CP Pokemon from Go, that are almost impossible to raise the CP levels of, and put them into the Pokeball Plus or in the game itself and raise their CP/get candies.

Now that isn't to say that the game doesn't have it's flaws, because believe me, it does. There is a limited amount of cash you can obtain (as far as i know you can't re-challenge defeated trainers to get extra cash/experience points. Which in turn means there is also a limited amount of experience you can earn through the game.

Unless there is a trick i don't know of as of this review, you will eventually run of of Pokeballs and Funds.

Now is that to say that once you beat the Elite Four and the Master Trainers that the game will be permanently over?

Doubtful, as i think Nintendo will take full advantage of its success with DLC as of late and will most likely add in Events or even other Regions, like perhaps Johto?

All in all, i think this game is an alright/enjoyable filler game for the Pokemon series until the 2019 title comes out. Until then, remember to Catch em' all.

The difficulty of the game has switched from battling and random encounters to physically catching the pokemon. The game gives ample supply of pokeballs to toss, however there is a skill gradient that comes from learning the way each pokemon moves and how to predict it's movements.

Do not allow the review bombing to dissuade you from purchasing this game and testing it out for yourself. While there are flaws that exist in the game, I would say that the game comes out to a net positive with all of the neat ways they reinvented the Kanto region!

Ignoring all the haters who kept bashing the game because of all the removed features, despite this not being a "Core" Pokemon Game, I rate this even higher than some of the Core Games.
Great soundtrack, great graphics, great new interactions with your starter, great cutscenes all around, while I was being skeptical about the new "Catching" mechanic with the removal of wild battles, it turned out to be a great experience, and Pokemons that is visible is just so much better than the traditional Random Encounter in the Core games.
Being able to bring your pokemon of choice out from the Pokeballs are a huge plus, and to be able to "ride" a lot of them too!

Your partner pokemon and pokemon that you decide to keep out of your pokeball give the overworld more life. Can you ride a Charizard, Persian, or Arcanine in Red/Blue? No! This allows you to travel around much quicker. The special abilities going to your partner instead of having to fumble through menus to find an ability on a pokemon is a welcome addon.

Nostalgia: 8 Does it capture my childhood? Yup! Does it provide a game that adheres to most of the story, combat and general feel of old-school Pokemon? Absolutely!

I do feel they dropped the "ball" a little with the catching system mechanics and it can become a nightmare at times in higher levels, however the general appeal to complete the game is still intact and having the Pokeball Plus was a nice addition, though not necessary. It made things a lot more casual and comfortable.

All in all, not a "next-gen" Pokemon title, but that's not what it was supposed to be. As a remake and casual sitdown and playthrough to relive my childhood? Well worth $60. I've paid more on a night out than this and I got 2-3 nights of enjoyment with just the story. Not terrible, but I expect a lot from the next RPG coming to the Switch.

This game is essentially a Pokemon Yellow remake. Unfortunately, the changes that were made turned out to be a net-negative on the overall experience. Unfortunately, the changes that were made turned out to be a net-negative on the overall experience. The decision to remove wild pokemon battles made little sense, as throwing a pokeball at a moving circle has little gratification and just doesn't feel genuine to the series at all. Despite the greatly overhauled graphics, it somehow manages to feel less enjoyable running around Kanto than the last time I was able to back in Leaf Green.

However, there is a role for this game as an entry point for new players. It looks a lot prettier than the older games and they decided to tone down the difficulty to a ridiculously easy level. I would definitely recommend this game for new players to acquaint themselves with the Kanto region and the original 151 pokemon. For players who have even touched another game in the series, this game will get boring very fast.

Overall, this is a fairly uninspired Kanto reboot, and I hope that Pokemon doesn't continue moving in this direction.

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It's a simple, cute and fun game that will keep you hooked for hours. An excellent starting point for newcomers, and a great nostalgia trip for those in a search for one.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
