When I first saw the trailer for this, I was overwhelmed with nostalgia. It didn't matter that it was "another" remake. It didn't matter that it was very much geared towards kids of this generation. What mattered is that it was Pokémon. I maintained that thought process through the reveals, always sharing them with my seven year old son. I can't tell you how moved I was when he realized he could put Psyduck in the Pokeball and take it for a walk with him.

We waited, patiently for the day that it came out. We stood outside GameStop for nearly two hours, just to make sure we got our copy as soon as possible. And we've both been so happy. We've been playing it non-stop, except to go for walks with Psyduck!

The mechanics are simpler. Feed a berry, throw a ball. It's not complicated. This is actually good in my opinion. I could try and explain IVs/EVs and stuff to my son, and he wouldn't understand it now. What he does understand is "That's a big Psyduck", and "That Psyduck has a blue number for speed so that means it's faster!" Simple. Easy. Clear. It's a good way to ease the newer generation into a franchise that's been going since we were kids.

There's enough new things to keep it exciting while being nostalgic (at least in my opinion).

I get that a lot of people have reviewed this game and given it a negative score because it's a "dumbed down" version of Yellow. But think about it from a younger child's perspective, and remember that this IS a kid game. It was advertised as being a kid game.

Go back to when you were a kid and none of those things mattered. None of them existed. Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee is this generations Blue/Red/Yellow. Think of it from that angle and you'll realize why this game is so amazing.

Simply amazed by how beautiful the game looks, it is a great filler game while the main pokemon game is under development and a nice attempt at trying to get pokemon go players into the community even though I'm not sure how effective it will be.

I don't think it's a big deal and I barely notice it. There's also no real "paywalls" either, since the only content locked behind a paywall is a children's peripheral that holds a Pokémon, that has no bearing on completing the Dex, and is outclassed in combat by various other 'mons.

The fanboys are brigading, but maybe they should actually play the game before leaving a review. Waa waa waa.

Don't let their vapid negativity surrounding let's go Pikachu and Eevee fool you. It's gorgeous, has all the old Pokemon flavor any main series game had (minus the obvious catch mechanic switch up, which, while not better or worse than the turn by turn, wild battle encounter of past games, still serves to give the let's go vehicles a neat uniqueness), has countless trainer battles, cool emotional beats (I teared up at the cubone storyline), and an overall smooth play style that simultaneously updates old tropes and adds cool new features. Being able to run around zubats in Mt. Moon without destroying the environment with an ungodly amount of repels was a standout. Bringing back the Pokemon follow feature from heart gold and soul silver was amazing, especially since Pokemon are to scale now (Onix is freakin' huge).

I also imagine these games have fantastic cross-generational appeal. After all, some of those Pokemon fans of the original yellow just might have their own kids now, and with the new 2P system it could be a great way to spend time together. I'm speaking purely hypothetically since I do not have a kid of my own. Unless you count Eevee since she's just so gosh darn cute!

Are these games dumbed down? Maybe for those select Pokemon "fans" that spend their time making carbon copy teams of whoever's winning all those Pokemon championships with the same boring legendaries. But, it's a perfect game for those of us who simply like to play with our favorites, go on a bright and colorful journey, and watch Eevee pull a Parks and Recreation look towards the camera whenever Jessie and James start spouting nonsense. So don't let those presumably late 20's to early 30's naysayers dissuade you from buying a really fun game. They're pretty much akin to the pre-teen on Call of Duty who starts threatening to fornicate your mother because you're not playing the game correctly. They really just need an Eevee in their life.

Yellow was my first game when I was a kid, and I have played every generation of pokemon since, and this is the coolestthing to come out since ORAS in 2014. Sure, itmay also be a bit easier also, but since this is the series' first game on a home console, the more broad appealthey're going for this time makes perfect sense. To have a actually Pokemon came on a home console. I don't want to go deep into all this, but the game is fun. The Pokemon go style catching I could have done without, but that aside the game is fun and GREAT to look at. These people saying the graphics are worse than 3ds literally must be insane and blind. I don't understand how you are such a " hardcore fan " yet are sinking this game with bad reviews because of information that had been above long before the game dropped, if you were really sick a hardcore Pokemon fan this would have come at no surprise. I came into this game knowing it wasn't going to be very hard or have a lot of the technical parts of the other games, but I was just looking forward to playing a Pokemon game. Someone said Mewtwo should beat your as and not be a ball chugging match, ummm you have to fight him before you can even catch him....asshat. I strongly advise all who read these go by the actual critic reviews and ignore the user reveiws on this one, people are just so bitter, which is surprising considering it was announced when they announced this game that the 2019 Pokemon would be for the core fans and this was to introduce newer players who never got to experience the Pokemon game that started it all.

Random encounters were not fun. They were tedious and boring, especially if you stopped and battled each Pokemon you encountered. Now, your Pokemon gain experience by catching Pokemon and you can later send the Pokemon you don't want to Professor Oak (which feels nicer than leaving hundereds of Pokemon in your box to rot). Doing this rewards candies you can use to increase the stats of your Pokemon. This method feels more tangible and rewarding that the EV grind.

The graphics are charming and for the first time I actually feel immersed in the Pokemon world. My interactions with Pikachu feel real and I actually feel a bond to my Pokemon, something which Let's go does better than all the previous iterations of the game.

When Let's Go was announced, my initial thought was "meh, looks ok I guess". After having it and playing though, its literally probably the most fun I've had in a Pokemon game IN QUITE A WHILE. Yes it's true that there are features missing that the original main series games have, but let me say this: This. Is. Not. A. Main. Series. Game. At all.
This is the in-between spinoff filler game that we get while we wait for gen 8. This is an entry-level game designed specifically for parents/kids/genwunners that started or got back into the franchise with Go.

It literally isn't designed for longtime fans, but it has the nostalgia kick that will still bring them in. Not only that, but the features it lacks from the original, it more than makes up for with all the new features it adds.
And there are a lot, with most being what people have been requesting for a while! (following pokemon, overworld flying, buddy pokemon, overworld encounters, it goes on).
Not to mention, the features it lacks from the original make sense for what it is (a which is, a Go combo game). Personally, I love when Pokemon steps away from its usual, redundant formula. This game is like a vacation to me.
The fact that I can skirt around an encounter is fantastic, and this is the best game I've played for shiny hunting so far hands down. I love having Pokemon following me again and hell I even like the Pokeball controller. To me, its reminiscent of the HG/SS days.
Its an easy game, because again, its entry level and wasn't meant for you. Its obviously designed to be super casual, NON-COMPETITIVE, and with young kids in mind. I would still even love to see some of the features return for a main series. It just blows my mind how veterans are having such bad reactions, because honestly, what did you expect?

Is it a cash grab? Absolutely! Thats Pokemon's entire marketing scheme. Does it work? Absolutely! The sales on the games are doing extremely well. Why is that necessarily a bad thing?

The point: Don't write off the Let's Go games just because people are being negative nancys. Its fun. Let people enjoy things.

Ignoring all the haters who kept bashing the game because of all the removed features, despite this not being a "Core" Pokemon Game, I rate this even higher than some of the Core Games.
Great soundtrack, great graphics, great new interactions with your starter, great cutscenes all around, while I was being skeptical about the new "Catching" mechanic with the removal of wild battles, it turned out to be a great experience, and Pokemons that is visible is just so much better than the traditional Random Encounter in the Core games.
Being able to bring your pokemon of choice out from the Pokeballs are a huge plus, and to be able to "ride" a lot of them too!

A worthy game to be called a True Pokemon Yellow Remake. I hope there's a lot more to come in the future for Pokemon Let's Go franchise.

Cons: Public need more quickness when they are playing than we had 20 years ago, and I think there is not enough work on it in this game. We deserve an open world of pokemon. I think there have been different forms to play pokemon apart from pokemon go or latest games of pokemon from 3DS, Nintengo pelase, take a though on it.

My score would be 75. Nonetheless I think that the current 5.9 is unfair, so i am going to put 10 instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was going to give this a 4/5, but to be honest, theirs no reason this game should have recieved anything less then a 3/5 if being objective. For a cash grab, this isn't fallout 76.

This game is a remake of Pokemon Yellow. My opinion is somewhat skewed as I did actually have issues with the original. I've never liked random encounters, so seeing the pokemon on the overworld is a huge step in the right direction for me (love the tales franchise who started doing this with Symphonia). Also, theirs 151 pokemon in these base games and for me the battle system gets a little old when simply wanting to add a new pokemon to your party is a random encounter grind until you find the one you want, then using the traditional battle system to balance weakening the pokemon enough to catch while trying not to kill it... and this was a nightmare for the legendary birds who you only got 1 chance at. So removing the battle system from the capturing aspects is also a plus for me. It takes away some of the grind and makes battles more fun because you don't have the chance to get really tired of it.

The graphics are solid. I haven't seen any bugs myself that some others have reported, but take those bugs away (haven't heard of any major bugs) and you have a very colorful and vibrant world to explore that is reasonably detailed. The sound effects and music are also fine, although nothing amazing.

Exp share. This was a fundamental flaw with the original pokemon games. in Yellow, if your leveling pokemon up, you MUST have them participate in every battle to get experience from that battle. When you have a party of 6, and you must fight wild pokemon to level up, this just made the grind even more ridiculous. If just a single pokemon your leveling, you would put them up front and then switch at the beginning of battle (they don't have to do damage, just come out) to level them fast. If you have multiple pokemon to level, it was simply best to do one at a time and took forever. That's gone, as now every pokemon in your party gains xp. You can also switch pokemon in and out of your party without having to return to town.

If people didn't want to see the capture aspects simplified, they shouldn't have supported GO. Objectively, it's a bit boring to catch pokemon in this way and i truly feel they could have changed this from the traditional battle system to something similar to this but with more depth to it and the majority would have been ok. They really should have spent a little more time to it. That being said, i hope they continue to improve on it in future games (or updates).

I don't agree with putting a $60 tag on ports and remakes. This and the resident evil remake on gamecube brought enough change to consider it a remake, but they aren't terribly new experiences. I feel a $40 tag would fit better. Still, while this is a cash grab (in fact, all pokemon games are a cash grab, doesn't mean they are bad), it isn't shoddily done like Fallout 76 and it isn't an attempt to sell a mobile title to a pc playerbase as if it's some huge event they should care about (the Diablo name would have sold itself on mobile, didn't have to piss those pc guys off.) I don't see any of the typical cash grab schemes with this game other then just feeding off nostalgia, and that isn't a bad thing.

So if you're a fan of Gen 1 Pokemon this is a great remake. It's definitely the best looking Pokemon game since all the rest have been on handhelds with lower powered systems. The Switch offers both hand held & more power.

The game is about 30 hours of content & then there's end game content. You can go hunt down the legendary Pokemon which is really fun. They brought the Pokemon Go mechanic into this game. It adds a nice variety to the battles. Now you have traditional battle since now you fight against trainers all over the world & not just inside gym & you also have the Pokemon Go style to catch Pokemon. It actually feels refreshing so you don't get tiresome of the same thing over & over. Pokemon games were known for their repetitive level grind heavy game play. So this is a refresher.

That's where the hate for this game is coming from is cause of the Pokemon Go mechanic being added. But Pokemon Go is extremely popular with 750 million downloads & a user base of 65 million people consecutively each month. If you're a fan of Pokemon I employ you to give it a chance. You'll find that it is actually very enjoyable & quite addictive to catch them all.

Pokemon Lets go, Pikachu is essentially a 20 year old game with 5 year old graphics and a slightly new catching system. The only enjoyable aspects of this game for me were collecting the 150 pokemon. The trainer battles are a slog and ultimately come down to getting out your type advantage and spamming a move until on pokemon dies. So i'm glad there aren't any wild battles because they would've made the slog much worse. The battles do get better though and I find myself cheering for my mons like I did when i was a little kid. Unfortunately this was only around the 6th gym.

The resolution is a step up but it should be and the cut scenes with your avatar are nice. However, in x and y(not sure about sun and moon) there are moving dynamic backgrounds with flowing foliage and petals dancing in the wind; these effects aren't present in lets go. There are these nice models with some pretty stellar battle animations(Lovely Kiss, Blizzard are two of my faves) but the arena's themselves seem very rigid and almost lifeless. Also the limited amount of camera angles become noticeable a dozen hours in. In pokemon stadium there would be a lot of wide sweeping shots or aerial shots that aren't present here. I think its because the battle arenas are too small and to properly see large pokemon like onix or alolan exeggecutor the camera would have to zoom past the boundaries.
The overworld locations are almost all pretty forgettable and some places even bleed into eachother. The gyms are kinda nice though and the 7th one is a real treat.

catching pokemon is a lot more fun and probably was the most enjoyable part of the game for me.
I never played much go so maybe it would've been stale if i played that. I love that you can see pokemon on the overworld and I think the catch combo system is pretty neat. I never bothered shiny hunting in the previous series because it was a whole lot of work but it seems almost feasible in this game. Also the ability to just avoid pokemon is really nice if i want to get on to my next objective. Ultimately, in the previous games catching pokemon boiled down to getting the enemy pokemon down to 1 health, giving them paralysis or sleep and then hoping for the best. Once you figure it out it's not fun or engaging it's just an extra hoop to jump through. The new system is straight up gambling with a minigame but it's a lot faster and cuts out the extra steps.

All in all this is a pretty lazy remaster of red and blue. there's still a lot of fun to be had in building up your team and catching the 150(171 i think if you count alolans, meltan and mew). But everything else just feels like work. definitely not worthy of a 10 but also definitely not worthy of a 0.

(3) I was skeptical at first about the removal of wild battles, but the new pkmn go style catching system is really fun, and wild battles were not important to the vast majority players anyway.

The only real problem I had was how the game was marketed, but the marketing does not affect the game.
Pokemon lets go is a truly fun experience for all ages, also the game hit over 3 million copies sold in the first week, which is a record on the Nintendo switch, meaning it beat Mario Odyessy and Zelda botw in the amount of units sold on the first week.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Évoli! was heavily criticized before the release. Especially the removal of battles against wild Pokemon was described as a burden. When playing shows, however, that the new system also has its advantages. So it is less dependent on chance, because you can choose the desired Pokemon

    cons:

i missed the pokemon abilities and the item system (Pokemon can't hold items).
But the game is not designed in that way and next year comes generation 8. so i think i can live with that but i dont think these points were to "difficult" to understand für newbies. ;-)

The Joycon controls are a little bit to sketchy for my taste. I play mostly in Handheldmode and dont understand why they dont implement Pro-controller support. (maybe in future patches)

What i dont understand is the bad userscore. The game is so lovely and you can see that they tried to give all players something to love in this game. They said that there will be a 8 gen game next year.

Well, I saw her enjoying herself so much and sometimes I looked, I confess I was amazed at the level of detail and the kantou nostalgia took me. I decided to give them a chance for the "junk game," as many people said, and I discovered that they were just blind haters. Because when playing, I was excited. My niece had Let's Go Eevee and as I played, I was overwhelmed by a strong feeling of nostalgia and I became excited with each catch, interact with the Pokémon, they followed you, being the difference interactions. I decided to buy Let's Go Eevee to have a game of mine and not have to make an excuse to stay at my sister's house when I wanted to play. I started playing in my house and I was falling in love. Soon I saw that the criticisms I read so much were unfounded and the result of haters, which only turned away hatred blind and intense. I researched and saw that it would be a parallel line of games and I loved that idea. It will have the traditional line and this parallel. I was thrilled when my world expanded at the end of the Elite Four. Seriously, I was happy when I saw myself flying high in the sky, crossing the map at will on the back of my Charizard. Seeing everything from above was indescribable and the challenge of the Masters, very challenging. I thought to pass them and luckily, I bought pokéball plus. I was able to challenge Mew's master. I finished Let's Go Eevee, I bought Let's Go Pikachu. I'm in Elite Four and I barely see the time of my world being expanded. I super indicate this game and I ask to ignore the haters. I watched on TV all my life around me and even the pokéball pitch that I had condemned so much in the end was fun. I played with him for wanting to play and I got infected. I saw how wrong I was to have judged a game, only by a few traillers, condemning the changes, without even experiencing them. I was captivated by the game. I. loved. these. games. LGPE is a wonderfully nostalgic, heartwarming remake of my favorite pokemon generation. I was hesitant at first that ending wild pokemon battles would compromise the game's playability, but I actually ended up liking the new mechanic, a lot more than wild battles. they could make it a little more complex, but I do like the catching mechanic. I wont deny that LGPE are easy, but they are also FUN. The only thing I would like to see improved is post-game content. there's completing the pokedex, shiny pokemon hunting and the master trainers which are all great, but I would have liked to see the Sevii islands like in Fire Red and Leaf Green.

these 0/10 reviews are bogus. Nintendo has been upfront since day one of the release, stating it would be a game to introduce new players (young, old, and yes Pokemon GO players) into pokemon console gaming. People don't realize that this was an EXTRA pokemon game release, we normally only get a new game every two years. we got USUM in 2017, LGPE this year and we're getting the new generation in 2019... if you don't want to buy the game then don't. Nintendo thought outside of the box with this new concept, and it's clearly paid off. so continue to complain as much as you want, but it looks like this is going to end up becoming a core series along side the new generations of pokemon games, and I will happily be first in line getting each new remake.

Do not let these toxic individuals scare you away, I assure you, the majority of the pokemon community is not like them. I found this game to be an extremely good time and I hope you can say the same. This game does have its differences from the rest of the series, as you do not need to battle wild pokemon, you can simply catch them, but all of these differences to me are improvements, not simplifications.

Being someone who cherished very much the very first Pokemon games, mostly Yellow, to be able to revive and relive all those feelings, nostalgia and with "modern" graphics was a dream come true... I bought my Switch to play this game... only down notes was the simplification of random pokemon battles, you just catch them instead... and the pay wall for Mew...

Hours and Hours of fun. I completed the game in a day or two, plus shiny hunting. This game is unlike any other pokemon game, as the graphics, visuals, and game style is just purely an amazing experience. The story is also similar to the other games in a way, but there's just something to it that makes it feel special. 10/10.

Yes, it lacks a lot of the things added in recent games but that is the point - this is a breather to reintroduce Pokemon in the era of the Switch. And it succeeds in what it tries to be - a reintroduction and an extension of the mobile game. Highly addictive.

Lots of fun to explore Kanto again with my trusted companions at my side. I really love the details of how each pokemon follows (or leads) you around when let out of their ball. I think it's against the core nature of the game, but maybe.

Overall I really love this game, and my kids love it too. In a lot of ways I think this is how pokemon always should have been. I hope to get more Lets Go games for other generations.

Having said that, i think it gets easier the more you catch the same species, i didnt miss the wild battles, i even felt there was too many trainers that i couldnt avoid. The problem with people who give reviews of 1 or 0, is they didnt play the game enough, they just hate the idea, but i think it works, i hope they translate this in the next game, the only con i found is that is only gen 1, because i would love to see every single pokemon in this new world. Random battles often got quite tedious and they basically made it cleaner and easier. I think if they refined it a bit, it would be a step in the right direction. The old method let you strategically place status effects and lower their health to increase your odds and that was what was missing here. All you choose is which ball to choose and maybe throw a berry. Still, I think giving a 1 or 2 score just because of the new capture system is just ignorant. What I really wish was different was the pikachu/evee part. You can play with your respective partner, but only them. Pokemon Amie for X&Y had this feature with EVERY pokemon, so I feel like they took a step backwards with that. The post game is also severely lacking. I don't understand the point/fun of master trainers. I did enjoy having the ability to travel with another pokemon of my choice though. I'm excited to see what their next game will be as I see this as a stepping stone for the devs, to test out the switch's capabilities and to play around with new mechanics. Expand

The only frame rate slow down that i have noticed was in an area that you are not in for long. The game is very faithful to Pokemon Yellow, as it is intended to be. I see a lot of complaints about the "removal" of some features. They were not removed, this is a Gen 1 game. Those features were not in Gen 1. If you like the Gen 1 games, you will enjoy this game. If you are new to the mainline Pokemon games, you will enjoy these games. If you were expecting Gen 7 in Kanto, then you may be disappointed. All in all i feel like Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee is a very fun Pokemon experience for old and new Pokemon fans. Expand

This game is beautiful. I have not used the PokeBall controller yet because that shipment was delayed, but I've only spent about 4-5 hours playing and I can say I don't feel cheated out of my money. It's a rich, nostalgic experience so far. I used to despise the fact that I would be slowed down by a thousand Pidgeys or Rattatas or Zubats or Digletts as I just wanted to advance through the game, with the new design, it's a dream come true. I honestly don't think I'll be able to play the old way where pokemon can pop up any time you're in a cave or high glass. I love the combo system that has been implemented and how that affects your chance to find rare Pokemon.
I did take a point off because while the throwing mechanism is nice, it's not perfect though. And often times it can be inconsistent. In the beginning of the game, when money is low, this is important because a wasted Pokeball is worth more than you think when cash is low.
Having said that, if you have an issue with only one mechanism in a game, you don't drop your score to zero. That's just poor reviewing. There's no way this game is a zero or below a 4. Any score that is a zero should immediately be disregarded but that's for any game.
As for difficulty, I can't honestly remember the last Pokemon game that I felt was challenging. There's always one or two battles that are hard but that's about it. Most of the challenging stuff comes after end-game. I'm not that far in this game to comment on that...

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
