    If you’re looking for a title that relieves tension instead of building it, My Time at Portia is as soothing as gaming gets. The craft-heavy life sim offers new spins on mainstays like farming, mining, and even fishing. It’s the closest gaming equivalent to a warm cup of cocoa: soothing and satisfying. If Harvest Moon and Breath of the Wild had a baby, I’m positive their beautiful brood would feel like My Time at Portia.

    My Time At Portia is an ambitious game that actually delivers on what it sets out to do. The crafting can be extremely overwhelming at first and the presence of some in-game timers can be a mild annoyance, but get your head round its detailed multi-step building missions and you’ll end up with a game that could end up racking hundreds of hours on your Switch.

    My Time at Portia is a slow game, to the point that digging around in the mines or waiting for bronze plates to smelt can be mind-numbing. But in a way its builds are kind of like knitting; repetitive and slow but visibly building towards a satisfying, tangible product. Plus, there's enough surprise in the living world, the creepy mines and dungeons and the wide fields to keep things from getting too stale for too long.

    My Time at Portia is without a doubt an ambitious game, with plenty of places to go and a myriad of things to do. So it only feels frustrating to see that its long loading times can harm the player's experience and its overall presence on the Nintendo Switch feels like a PC game that was copied onto a console format, especially when it comes to its controls, as this turns out to be a game which only big fans of simulations of this kind will truly enjoy.

    Though the content and concept of My Time at Portia is sublime, having the potential to enslave your attention for months to come, the Switch port lacks the polish and love it so desperately deserves. Should quality of life fixes be implemented, this will certainly be worth sinking your time into. For now, not so much.

    I love this game. It's like a 3D version of Stardew Valley. Actually they got rid of all the annoying parts about Stardew Valley, so I like itI love this game. They really, really heavily copied Stardew Valley though...so much so, that I think Stardew Valley could probably win in a lawsuit.. It plays well on the Switch, except it always crashes after about an hour or two of play, which isn't too bad, since it autosaves after every day. The load times aren't too long, which makes me think that they majorly patched it this year, since all the really bad reviews are from last year. I really like the way they implemented mining. I found mining in this game really relaxing.

The main thing that I want to point out in this review is that many of the issues talked about in the other reviews were launch problems that have been patched out. It has been improved post launch. I have never gotten stuck or had a game breaking bug. The worst thing that happened to me was that my house disappeared once -- once I managed to find where the door should be I was still able to enter it.

    So yes, it's not perfect. But behind the few glitches that still remain is a wonderful game. If you're willing to look past them, you'll have a wonderful experience, with crafting, a large world to explore, and the best mining I've experienced in a game in this genre. It's simply fun. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, and do not regret my purchase at all.    … Expand

The updates to fix things are few and far between and it doesn't get as much loving as the PC version from what I've seen. I quite enjoy that there's a huge emphasis on building rather than farming. Some of the tutorials or instructions on how to use things could be better but if you stick with it, it is really enjoyable. There can be lag within it but I find if I turn off the game and load it back up it seems to fix most lag issues. It's a very chill and relaxing game. Perfect when you want to wind down from a stressful day.… Expand

    The critic reviews seem to be going off the PC version which I also own and agree with the positive reviews; it's a great game, however, the Switch port is just not ready. Maybe later.    … Expand

Every action feels very sluggish, even in the menus and inventory. You can press a button and in many situations wait several seconds before getting any response. When items drop, they sit at your feet for several seconds before they get added to your inventory. Loading times aren't too bad once you've started the game but that's a small plus when everything else in the game takes forever to respond!

    It sounds like the game runs smoother on other systems, so I'd be interested in playing it elsewhere (if I was willing to pay for it again...).

    Avoid the Switch version; it's not worth playing on Switch in its current state.    … Expand

This game is an unfinished buggy mess that lacks any polish whatsoever. There are thousands of simple things (no animation for going out of bounds, crazy lag, 2 minute load times for going literally anywhere, broken ui, frame rate plummeting, I could go on and on) that amount to this being utterly unplayable. Shows a lot of potential and I might consider replaying if all of these are fixed, but otherwise it's a no go. Reviews that gave it an average rating had to have only played it for 30 minutes or so, as a lot of its glaring issues amount to more and more over time. The studio should ashamed for putting something of this poor quality out there, and I truly hope they will make up for it with a proper port.… Expand
