Listen to the user reviews on this one, folks. The game struggles to load (multiple minute loadscreens/sluggish actions). It just doesn't seem like they properly optimized it for the Switch prior to release.

The critic reviews seem to be going off the PC version which I also own and agree with the positive reviews; it's a great game, however, the Switch port is just not ready. Maybe later.

I am giving the current version of this game on Switch a 0/10, because It is unplayable and I don't want others going through the frustrations I have. At first it was just very long loading times and bad frame rate and slowdowns, but the further I got into the game, it would crash often, sometimes after hours of playing just one day and of course the game only saves at the end of the day. The game has crashed easily 30 times over 40 hours + of gameplay, and I recently contacted the game support devs and they told me to delete and reinstall the game, which I did. This actually created two new game breaking bugs that freeze me when I give a gift to npcs (which is a huge part of the game...) and prevents me from playing. Basically the game has now gone from deeply flawed, to truly unplayable. Avoid for now. If a patch is released that fixes the issues, I will update this review and the score. Again I like the game, but this port is for now unplayable. Expand

This was janky and felt very average gameplay wise.

Something about the graphics and characters were unnerving. I never quite felt very comfortable with the art style which probably contributed to my discomfort with the game. This is definetly more of a crafting and gathering sim then a farming sim as well. Sometimes it could start feeling really tedious. It just lacked a lot of charm I

Loading times aren't too bad once you've started the game but that's a small plus when everything else in the game takes forever to respond!

It sounds like the game runs smoother on other systems, so I'd be interested in playing it elsewhere (if I was willing to pay for it again...).

Avoid the Switch version; it's not worth playing on Switch in its current state.

Waited for the Switch version for quite some time. Was utterly gutted to see such a scandalously lazy and buggy port. Loading times are horrendous, no more voice over, graphic downgrade... At this point in time, it's a scam. Don't waste money on this until it's properly fixed.

I actually created an account on Metacritic specifically to rate this game. That's how frustrated I am.

I was psyched for this game coming to the Nintendo Switch for about a year til its release, to me this had the potential of being a contender for best harvest moon clone on the switch, in which Stardew Valley still holds. However, the main problem is this port, I don't know how good the game is on PC, but I played this game for days straight, the moment it released, and I've noticed too many problems, the loading times are just too long, there is constant freezing everywhere, lag sometimes kicks in, the game has crashed a few time, and the game play ends up becoming repetitive for some reason, like, in a way where I don't feel like I am progressing. Textures are pretty crap too if you're into graphics, and there's some questionable decisions made by the developers, the combat is too minimal in content, whereas I feel it should have been more fleshed out, and if you die, you start the day over?! what's the point in there being a hospital then, why can't you revive there on the next day instead or something. Well, these were some random gripes from me.

TL;DR: It's not worth getting at the moment.

Yikes. This port is absolutely terrible. Lag is an average of 3-5 seconds for almost every farming action you do if it is mining or cutting down a tree. The graphics are not very good either so i have no clue why the world takes so long to load.... Avoid this game at all costs.

I can't even play this game. Everyone is right on about the loading and lag time but for me what's worse is no matter how you adjust the settings it's you can't easily move around. When you don't have the automatic camera adjustment setting you have to re-angle the horizon line to see what you're doing and where you're going. When it is on it moves around so much that you can't focus. II can't even play this game. I wish I could get a refund because unless there's an entire reboot of the camera and movement actions I can't even play the game. It sucks for games on the Switch or any nintendo platform when you can't review the games on the eshop or even their game website. Expand

The worst version of this game.
Graphics are terrible compared to the PC version that already looked like a PS2 game and they made it worse on the Switch. The game has input lag and lags sometimes while playing undocked. And where are the voices and why does the game not have sounds that are on the Steam version? It's so silent.

I've been waiting for this since I first heard of the game, sadly I'm very disappointed. I don't mind the long loading times but the game has serious problems, very very low resolution textures in places, tons of missing sound effects (and I don't mean the voices), and huge lag/delay when doing most things. I honestly thought the game had crashed when I pressed the button to use my axe on a tree and it took almost 4 seconds to even start the axe swing animation. opening a chest has lag, accessing your inventory has a huge delay. Sadly things like this really take the fun out of playing the game and I've now stopped playing it. as much as this game appeals to me, I just cannot recommend it in its current state, its borderline unplayable unless you have a LOT of patience. Shows a lot of potential and I might consider replaying if all of these are fixed, but otherwise it's a no go. Reviews that gave it an average rating had to have only played it for 30 minutes or so, as a lot of its glaring issues amount to more and more over time. The studio should ashamed for putting something of this poor quality out there, and I truly hope they will make up for it with a proper port. Expand

I love Portia. I've played a crazy amount of Portia on PC and was extremely excited for the Nintendo Switch port. Which sadly turned out to be a real disappointment. At launch, the game had a loading screen exceeding 5 minutes, which was reduced later to 2~3 minutes and is still with no improvement whatsoever. Everything is laggy. Unplayably bad. Stay away!

    - Extremely poor lag and slow loads.
    - Many interactions with the game world are glitchy and don't activate when they should.
    - Very inconsistent quality in character and story development.
    - Bad graphics.
    - Very grindy game with little reward.
    - It had so much potential to be something great, like Stardew Valley, but the execution of the game was so poorly done.

Fun crafting game BUT clearly badly optimized for the Switch : numerous crashes when entering a building (not always, but often), lots of buggy textures like trees without trunk in the Desert, monsters AI seems nearly nill, optimization flaws on events (like the Brawl one where I win because all my opponents never showed up...), sloooooooooooow as hell to boot up, ...

The game may or may nor be good in its own right but the performance makes it a hard pass and anyone who values their money should vote with their wallet.

The game itself is good and a great timesink BUT lots of crashes as well as extreme frame drops lasting for second or two. Especially the crashes are VERY frustrating as they mostly happen at the end of the day. Bought the game bc people said the majority of the problems have been fixed but either the new content patch introduced a ton of new ones or it was just not true.

    I don't regret

Though the content and concept of My Time at Portia is sublime, having the potential to enslave your attention for months to come, the Switch port lacks the polish and love it so desperately deserves. Should quality of life fixes be implemented, this will certainly be worth sinking your time into. For now, not so much.

My Time at Portia is a visually beautiful, charming game rich in story, lore, and personality; everything about it is made better by the jump to a portable console. While this version lacks voice acting and rumble integration, the portability and surprisingly decent load times make this a great way to discover all that Portia has to offer.
