This game is the successor to generations ultimate. the way multiplayer works, single player, food, palico training area, quests, everything is born from the old school monster hunter. there is quality of life enhancements such as no loads between areas and load time are really quick. the armour and weapon systems are pretty much the same too.

Essentially, the quality of life and the new mechanics don't break the game. it is easier than previous titles, but only because your already a skilled hunter if returning to the series. I thought it was stupid easy until I seen family that have never touched the series before trying to get to grips with it all, then I realised that I do have over 5000 hours spent on the series since early 2000's.

I do miss mechanics from world that I had got used to sure. For instance, I really miss the clutch claw, hanging off its face and punching it directly in the face to turn the hulking beast and smashing a monster into a wall from it is way more satisfying than silk bind control, dropping off a high level directly landing on and mounting the monster is immense fun and missing too. Another infuriating thing is when the creature is battered and needs to run away, you could zip onto it in world and keep it in the area, which now its going to get away even on the back of your trusty Palamute, BUT, that's why all this should not be a comparison to World, its not World. The mechanics feel more of a direct lineage upgrade from generations ultimate rather than from world. World is very western in its story and its characters, and overall look (designed to be so) . Rise goes out of its way to introduce Japanese culture. its built for the handheld market, and that has always been strongest in Japan and Asia.

Any monster hunter worth his salt is going to own every console or Pc with a current monster hunter game. world will have a world 2 for pc and console, and rise is the start of Capcom's new handheld MH Branding. So get ready to own 2 consoles or Nintendo and a pc whilst MH Stories is Capcom's mobile phone branding. As a business structure its sound (own three games rather than 1) and this will pave the way for a very bright future for all of us hunters as all games are fully supported. The series is still in the 'growing the fan base and loyalty' stage of development due to the west being late to the MH party.

As for possible lack of content, you only have to see how Capcom have handled this in the past with constant updates and new monsters/weapons/armour/areas. your game is going to stay relevant for a very long time.
lets hope Capcom don't do an EA or Activision once they have the massive user base, because you can see how that went, all those micro transactions and ripping the customer until the product saturated the market and fell from grace because of greed is to blame for the vacuum of power in the gaming world, and Capcom and Square Enix were just waiting for that moment to launch Jap gaming back into the mainstream.

MH Rise is worth every penny. Cannot wait for G rank in rise and world 2 on the next gen consoles!

Absolutely love it, if you enjoyed world then you will love this too. Everything feels so much smoother and faster pace than world too which is great because it cuts down on a lot of the tedious things from world. Overall if you’re thinking about getting it just go ahead and get it, worth every penny with lots of free content coming down the road soon!

Well. I have play monster hunter since ps1. I've spend over 2600 hrs on mh world and iceborne. hr999 mr999 collected everything, platinum on boths.

So far on Rise, I've around 150 hunts. I give it 7. Due to the mess of damage's splash + 30 fps graphics. It is a mess. Yeah yeah say I try to understand it is the best graphic for nintendo. It still a shame compare to previous creations

All previous games, I got everything collected. Perfected the game. But not for this one. This one is cheap to promoted the console, company's benefit and contract stuffs. Might just release a mobile version on next one.

Same thing, if I have to go back to play ps1's mh game again i won't. I got used to the current day graphics and same with many other games.

Dont get me wrong, not that I hated it. The game is not bad at all. But not that good. It's a shame that such console downgraded such a quality game in a long run franchise.

When I see IGN gave 8/10. I am not surprise.

I'll play it for time being until PS5 or PC's 60fps released, that's it. Just for good time online with my gf and online multiplayers.

It's Monster Hunter. Like every game before it. But now it feels like it's Hamstringed by the hardware of the system it's exclusive to instead of being a visually overdone like Monster Hunter World.

Feeling small, incomplete, and as previously said is visually "meh" but I guess playing on more than 1 system has spoiled me and makes me look down upon hardware that's outdated on arrival.

I'm just not impressed by Xbox360 graphics in 2021. They could have instead stylized it within the limits of the hardware.... but instead it just looks meh and feels like a small Monster Hunter game that REALLY isn't worth the full retail asking price. If it was a $30 game it would be worth it easily. But for $60...? I'd rather use that money to buy something on Steam and order Chinese Food.

They could have done worse, but they really could have done better especially for the asking price. but I guess that's the current Nintendo Switch thing of asking too much money for too little of a product where in the past companies were self-aware wasn't worth it.

If you enjoyed Monster Hunter World, this game doubles down on its design philosophy and you'll probably love this game. It's a fast-paced romp. If you liked the older MH entries and hoped this would be a return to form, it isn't. It's not definitely not a bad game, but it's not what I was hoping for.

One of the best Monster Hunters.
It remembers me of Tri, the same sensation of being a real NEW monster hunter.
Love all the mechanics and the dynamism.

And we are talking about the core game, without updates.... And if this turns a G for free (looks like) makes this game the best one.

The game still doesn't have much content compared to older games, but they'll add more monsters in future patches (next one coming in a couple weeks, and the game just released), so we'll play this game for hundreds of hours for sure (also, this version is the one without the G-rank, so we can't compare it with mhgu or iceborne, since these were released years ago and they added a lot of content since the launching).

You’ll soon want to get your money back. I beat the game and I died 4 times. When I mean beat the game. I meant beat every single mission possible. Solo... it took me 130 hours. And I wish I had my life back. I didn’t enjoy it but I forced myself to play it cause of how amazing this game is apparently. Difficulty spikes- absolutely none. A braindead mentally ill frog can beat this game no prob. Especially with the wire bug mechanic. Allowing you to rush in like a moron and swig and when your going to get attacked. Wirebug out. Rinse repeat. You win the whole game. The only times Ive died is because of the stupid stun mechanic. I wanted a more fluid difficult monster hunter game. What I got was a clunky mess made to annoy you instead of challenge you. When I mean annoying. Omg the whole game is just that, annoying and tedious. Nothing difficult at all... just adding stuff to prolong the fights. More rare things to take longer to get the armor and weapons you want. And so on and so fourth. Monsters running away- WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA.... I’ve played every single mh game to date. Never have I seen monsters run away ever single 3 min. And if they do it’s only a small proportion to the map. Like the next zone. Noooope in this game the monster will run all the way across the map and then 30 seconds later do it again to the original spot. Repeat that 5-10 times a fight and you got yourself mhr. The rideable dogs- idk what their called. Nor do I care. Plz for the love of god fix their broken ai. I’m trying to get on them but their 50 yards away attacking something that is irrelevant. And once their next to you it’s a nightmare trying to get on them. Half the time when you hold down A they just sit there and do nothing. Waisting more of your time.

Content- I have never seen a mh game with so little content. You’d think after all this time someone would understand that it’s ok to have difficult fights for veterans and easy fights for the braindeads. But naaaa. Only easy fights so that it’s available for EvEryOne.... because of inclusiveness. Content huh. What content? Same exact fights but in different arenas. Is not content. They scale up the difficult for each monster a single time. And call that content. No armor changes nothing.... Actually sad. What happens when you beat the game. Nothing. Because there is not endgame. Their actually is not ending for Christ sakes. Like ARE YOU KIDDING ME? monster hunter isn’t supposed to be a game where little content gets added every month. Like just give me the game I paid 80$ For. And then add the content little by each month. Not give us a half assed game and add on something that should have been in the game in the first place. AND $1.50 for a dam hair set. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. THESE PRICES ARE ROBBERY. Online- the online is the only good thing in this game. If you want to get a quest done. Or grind to weapons and gear but don’t want to spend 40 min grinding a monster you can make it where people can join you on your hunt. Which is really cool. Execpt for the fact that it makes the hunt completely trivial. Or you can get brain dead teammates who don’t understand what a health potion does. Or what armor even is. And died 3 times in a row ending the hunt and making it where you get no rewards. Because someone else messed up. Really? Why??? Punishing someone for something they didn’t do is retarded. I didn’t like it in the other monster hunter games and I hate it now. Hr999- I want to at least play the game to raise my hr so that something is progressing. But no... adding numbers is too difficult for the developers apparently. Adding 2 monsters in the hr999 update makes no sense. Why not just have the update bring more monsters. And already have the 999. Makes no sense. How are 2 monsters going to drastically change how the hr system works. Really makes you think....

I don’t understand how anyone would give this a 5 and up. It must have been either the only monster hunter game they’ve ever played. Or complete fanboys of mh who do anything. For a broken mess of a game. As long as it has mh in the title. Or also idiots who don’t understand when their getting screwed over.

The wirebug feature is cool for the first couple hours but then becomes a real chore. Hunting wise it provides a couple extra dodges (which aren't needed really if you get hit) or a powerful attack that equals out anyway if you just attacked. I imagine someone on youtube might make a nice montage of wirebug stuff, but thats about it. Exploration wise. Fun for little while but just a chore later on. Already collected or seen X, Y, and Z. Everything else is me. The dog and the Wirebug is Meh at best.

I get that they wanted you to focus on hunts and not worry about all the extra grindy stuff like mining or herbs or whatever. But it's a grindy game to begin with. They give you tools for exploration but then make the rest simplistic. It's dumb and counter-intuitive.

Monsters are the absolute easiest I've played in the 17 years I've been with the franchise. Worst part is, there really isn't much variety. I swear they must have taken away movesets from franchise favorites and the new monsters introduced are just punching bags. And wirebug dodging makes them easier. The end boss leaves you wondering about the rest of the game.

Talismans have you praying to RNG gods and are probably the most grindy of the features without actually grinding whatsoever.

The game pretty much throws you everything. I'm a fan of QoL features but this game went overboard. I remember how people were in massive complaint over how easy World was and how it took away so much "from monster hunter" But this game pretty much took even more out of it, on top of that it's even easier.

Honestly... I'm just disappointed that it could have been more... Ya know, without having to wait a month or whatever until their patch or promise they'll be adding more content. Because there is nothing left. I can't believe this is actually a finished product to be honest.

One thing I noticed about the negative reviews, is that a significant number of them could easily have their complaints addressed if they just looked into the games options menu. And if not that, some are just wrong, such as, "It's too bad they took [X] out," where [X] is a thing that is in fact still in the game. But that isn't a knock against Capcom, as they're trying their best with the hardware they have to work with - the Switch is simply horribly outdated, and the visuals hurt the experience to a degree that makes it a deal-breaker.

The gameplay unfortunately feels uninspired and boring, there's nothing new or exciting here. I would rather recommend Monster Hunter World.

Ive given 3 monster hunter games a try and Rise will be the last, no matter what advertising says was improved these are daed to me. I would describe monster hunter games as the series that is "like that other game, but intentionally tedious and frustrating.

Sound/music - What is in the game is acceptable, but annoying and repetitive. Song clips are short bursts of 30-40 seconds of music that you're going to be hearing through an entire 30-50 minute hunt.

Story - Like all monster hunter games the story exists because other games have story. It is inconsequential and skipping everything the game will let you skip won't impact the game in any way. You're doing some random story about a rampage but you go hunt random monsters that are just living life. The fact that I can't just skip all of the story despite it being useless is baffling but whatever the core design of Monster hunter is developers saying "hahahaha that'll piss the players off".

Visual/Graphics - Monster hunter has alwasy skimped on visuals and graphics to allow them to put out more product more quicky, however it actually has impact in a game thats all about timing hits and dodges in clunky combat. The lack of smooth frame rates and character movements will result in you missing an enemy and getting hit by their move. The end result is that the combat ends up being slower than most early gaming JRPGs. Its somethiing you can learn to play around but it would work much better if it just worked as you see it rather than having to learn the little nuances that conflict with your senses.

Gameplay - This is what really matters and where Monster hunter baffles me endlessly. Every aspect of interacting with the game as a player sseems to be made intentionally annoying, not difficult, annoying. Tutorial menu/blurb, push a to close, "Are you sure?" - default selection of "No", move cursor... select yes. Talk to the same person again cause you just want to upgrade your weapon. Oh hey another annoying menu pop up with the tedious multi click requirement. Loading times have been improved but are still annoying. The tutorial/introductory zone "shrine ruins" features 3 large monsters to fight. Of course you can't just grab the quest for all 3 monsters go to the shrine ruins and explore everything and hunt the monster... That would be fun and make sense. You have to select each monster one at a time, load in hunt that one monster, leave, turn in the quest, select the next monster you already guaranteeably encountered (cause they are all in the zone every time you go), go back to the zone, repeat everything you did the previous time, repeat all of the above again for the 3rd monster... and so on.

While what i'm describing should already sound like a form of torture... it gets worse! The monsters you are hunting run away... all of them. What does this add to the game? More tedium, delays and annoyance. It isn't more realistic (if something you're hunting IRL runs away that **** is gone). It isn't more fun to stop the fight move locations and start the same fight again. You can't lock on to something like in a good game, you can choose which large monster you're hunting, and tap R to focus the camera on it (for a nano second) then its back to flailing wildly, so as a player you constantly have to just tap R prior to unloading your combo, again this isn't because its more challenging, more realistic, more fun its just another little frustration that works better in every other game its in. Hit boxes for yourself and monster are just atrocious, sometimes the hit registers normal and does normal damage sometimes you hit the armored part of the animal and do less damage, visually though you hit the same spot 4 times and it just said F-You 1 of them. Monsters get the same benefit, sometimes you're no where near the visual of their move but you're getting hit all the same because F-You thats why. Ive seen the swing of a monsters claws hit a player in front of them and hit me who is about 2 feet behind them sharpening my weapon.

Sharpening your weapon is another insanely frustrating thing, its literally a "must do" function roughly every 20-25 swings of a weapon, which comes very quickly. Usually in one of the 20 encounters you'll have with the monster prior to them running away to delay the fight you'll have to sharpen for every single one.

At the end of everything all i can say is that I am shocked and amazed that monster hunter still exists. The only thing Monster hunter truly excels at is making other games look amazing. Games with real monster targeting are incredible, games with varied high production sound tracks are incredible, games with tight controls and well constructed combat are incredible. Games that push the graphics and programming of a system hardware are incredible. Games that take the time to polish the UI to make the game accessible and user friendly are incredible. Monster hunter is none of these things.

There's no denying cake is good regardless, but it's undeniable that cake with icing is better. I'm of course hinting at Monster Hunter World. Most of Rise feels like a spin off of World. The graphics (of course), armours (not as detailed), weapon move nerfs, flat level designs, texture popping, etc. It's hard to really get past this at times and actually enjoy the game in my opinion.

For clarity, When I say weapon nerfs, I'm referring to Longsword and Gunlance, as those are my main weapons. First: Longsword no longer has Helmsplitter, which made me pretty sad. Also, Gunlance no longer has ledge over head leap slam that was pretty good for spamming full blasts in rapid succession. Not gamebreaking, but just "why?" type of nerfs. Also Duel Blades you can no longer spam attack while holding back and forth for an infinite combo.

I know my review isn't very positive, but hey I'm only 2 stars in so far. It's hard getting back into handheld as my last MH game was Tri on 3DS. Will update my score if things get better, I've yet to see new monsters, just been the same roster so far from World.

All in all, this is a good filler Monster Hunter game to play while waiting the next console release. I'm playing through Rise solo to brush up until then personally.

It feels a bit unfinished, the groundwork is amazing, the mobility, new monster designs and move set, it's all great. World only had 1 extra monster on launch compared to Rise though, so over time this entry can reach extremely high, with the inclusion of master/G ranks, doubling the roster, adding to and finishing up the main story.

But overall it's a very decent entry.

This is without a doubt the best Monster Hunter game to have ever released. As a long time fan there are things I miss (G Rank and a few more monsters mainly) but the additions make up for these retracted areas and I believe we'll be receiving a Master Rank DLC at some point also.

It's a great game for beginners too, if you're new to the series you'll find it to be much more intuitive

It's a great game for beginners too, if you're new to the series you'll find it to be much more intuitive and forgiving on you, unlike previous games (MHGenU I'm looking at you).

Overall this game is absolutely fantastic, if you're thinking of buying it then take the jump, hell buy a switch to play it! I can promise you won't regret it. It's been out 5 days so far and I've already sunk about 70 hours into.

To say this is the Nintendo Switch's best game is a huge statement. But Monster Hunter Rise goes toe to toe with some of the big titles, Breath Of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros and Animal Crossing and in some cases I believe it to actually be a superior game to those previously listed.

Instead if just praising this game I’m going to address the nay sayers.

A lot of people are complaining about either the mechanics (which have not changed - the mechanics ARE MONSTER HUNTER!) or the quality of life changes (making it too easy) and there being less monsters than other games or not as difficult of monsters. It gets harder. Keep playing. And fear not about the monster count,

It gets harder. Keep playing. And fear not about the monster count, DLC will be aplenty on this game they already said that.

Generally the people that rate this game low are simply horrible at video games and can’t stand a learning curve. they aren’t interested in actually having to put effort into a game and to learn some basic concepts. What I’m trying to say nicely is stupid people aren’t usually intelligent enough to understand the game and that’s ok. They have games like Kirby or yoshi that play the game for you.

The new people to the series are complaining Things like Sharpening your weapon mid battle or having to sheathe weapons to use items is clunky and annoying. It’s a trademark of the series, it’s not poor design - it’s like getting used to flying a plane on GTA or something - you’ll get it down. Like dark souls (which is way harder) it just clicks eventually. What feels unintuitive becomes intuitive.

    AND

SERIOUSLY THO FOR THOSE WHO BOUGHT IT: If you don’t like the game at first you may have not wasted your money. You have 14 (I think?) other weapons both melee and ranged to try and they are very different from each other. I think it’s kinda more tactical and immersive because after all you don’t have four hands lol. You can’t hold a sword/shield, and grab a potion out your sack while rolling to dodge all at the same time so you learn to time your heals and you keep well aware of your surroundings, especially what your hunt is doing. I think anyone who initially played this series... they had to Give the game a chance, the feeling of finally killing a hunt is tremendous (I had a 35 minute straight fight and I’m not even that far in the game, and when it died not only did it feel amazing - I got to upgrade all my stuff with the supplies I carved). Also! hunting with people online is sooooo fun. I play entirely on a switch lite currently and it’s perfectly smooth. It feels more comfortable than My regular switch and 90% of MH games are portable hand helds anyways. Not like that’s anything new.

I give the game a 9.2/10 but a 10 on metacritic to balance out the children that complained about the mechanics or the ones that only played for an hour or two and gave it a 5/10 because it wasn’t their easy shallow regurgitated game like most Nintendo games are.

Monster Hunter was a game i played when it first came out on the ps2 and loved it even if the old attack style with the analog sticks was...well unique. Monster Hunter World broke what i was expecting and gave me a fresh experience similar to how the original made me feel. Now comes rise. It took the old style and mixed with what World change for the better. This game is technically unfinished so right now im a tad harsher on it til the updates are out which will eventually bring the real ending. As of right now even with taking it slow ive already experienced all the hunts and fight the current end boss. With my schedule i can only really play about 4hrs a night during the week. I have around 80hrs in. This feels short to me compared to all previous titles even with it being unfinished so my score could lower or raise with the last update. The current end boss fight is VERY underwhelming. It feels next to impossible to fail it and i was bored with it a third in of the fight. Xeno was a much more entertaining fight. My overall score at the moment is 8 due to the fact for me this title feels easier than the other titles and there isnt much left to due after the current last boss. The content ,while isnt small, feels so because of how fast you can challenge it all. And with the added verticallity they made the hit boxes of all hunts HORRIBLE in the air makes thing frustrating if you actually try to use the wire bug for the attack they added.
Now for more of the posstives. I love the fact that you can actually craft all decorations now.The wire bug is definitely a little better than worlds sling and clutch claw. And they at least made most weapon designs varied like the old games. The palimute is a nice addition even if i hate the name. (Dont like palico ether should he what the buddy plaza cat leader calls them meowcenaries). The game is locked to 30fps and feels smooth even tho its just 30. Doesnt feel as jarring as youd think if you play on pc youd know lol and has very little to no drops. Then again its only 720p even when docked.

All in all i hope these too updates meant to complete the game bring a lot to the table other wise i do not see this game holding most players (except the hardcore old school MH vets) interest for while like World did with the updates and expansion. Then again they could surprise me.

Definitely they get back to the traditional formula but with QoL from World and it's just delicious. The combat especially is just wonderful, everything feels way faster and I love the adrenaline from the fast combat due to the addition of wire bugs (Insane!).

The graphics is great to be honest remembering it being released for Switch and I never feel there's any important or significant compromises that can affect how you view the game. If you compare it to MHW, you are just nitpicking. Monster Hunter is always about gameplay, graphics is just a bonus for me.

One thing that I just can't put this on top of GU is because the fact that you only have 1 village, Kamura. In GU you have 4 villages, well not big but it just feels nice as every village has a different theme and feel to it. On top of that, the amount of content in MHR probably only around 30-40% of MHGU. I spent around 70 hours in MHR and basically I finish all the missions (excluding Event, Rampage and Arena Quests). In GU, I've spent 135 hours and just barely play a little content of High Rank. Yes, I've just entered High Rank after 135 hours in the game.

Last, one epic moment in Rise is when the OST of Proof of a Hero kicks in when fighting against Narwa and Ibushi make me feels invincible and aggressive all of sudden. Completely brilliant composer.

Overall it's a great MH game and I prefer this one over MHW. Will definitely purchase Sunbreak when its on sale (too expensive on Switch).

    + Fun fights
    + immersive world

    - fights feel a bit more boring than I remember it. Maybe difficulty and grandioseness of the game scales later -/+ more mechanics than I’m using now which is fine because it allows for both hardcore and beginner players to hop on. I just can’t help but feel there’s better ways to do what I do.

The game is impeccable. The things I disliked about the previous monster hunter game have been changed with the addition of mounted movement (at anytime) and the wirebug (grappling hook)

I simply cannot stop playing this game. If you like 3rd person action games...If you like RPGs at all this is a must buy. This is one of those moments in gaming history where any description I might give you wouldnt do it justice. Just buy it...give it a chance and let it wash over you. Enjoy

Wow this game is so much fun I have around 100 hours on the game and I still can’t stop but there are some problems in the game

    Pros:

    -The music is next level

-The gameplay and the movement is just addicting I cant stop using the wire bugs and riding the palamute

-The map design is superb and the fact that everything around the map such as beetles and bugs are all so useful for your hunt just shows how far the team went in terms of making the player travel more around and looking everywhere to find all kinds of secrets and power ups

-The weapons are similar to the way they were in world but so much better the devs just took the weapons and made them so much better plus you can change your skills and the wire bug skills are just wow

-The new monsters are super cool I really liked the whole yokai design

-The armors look fantastic and real as if they were really made by the monsters you hunt

-The new rampage mode had me worried at first but I got hooked I found myself just doing the rampage missions non stop
The new armor skills they added and the whole re work they did in comparison to world is just superb

    Cons:

-Although good the gameplay is clunky at some moments

-the game is beautiful but the switch is still a very weak console and I sometimes found myself in a cave or near a lot of monsters and the fps drops just made me want to turn the game off

-the lack of end game because of the pandemic is just awful again I know that the team is not at fault here and they are releasing the missing content at the end of April but the game as Is right now is missing a lot of monsters and an ending to the hub story plus the village story just feels weak and short

in conclusion the game although lacking at some areas is such a fun experience even after I finished my build and every mission in the game I still want to come back and play more so my final score to monster hunter rise is a 9 out of 10 I really recommend this game for veterans and new comers alike

    - Weapon balance is a joke
    - the story is almost deliberately bad
    - gear balance is also a joke, many armor skills are just useless
    - skill balance is also bad, useless skills exists in contrast to skills that are the bread and butter to a weapon

Jogo incrível, com a mesma play de World e alguns truques para facilitar a vida no portátil - achei as soluções muito boas e eficientes! Gráficos bonitos para o console, mapas grandes e cheios de segredos e muitos monstros e equipamentos, claro! Super recomendo! Quase 50 horas de jogo e muita coisa a fazer e descobrir.

Each of them has unique mechanics on which you have to take into consideration several factors like positioning, speed, and timing to get the most of them. This weapon versatility is one of the beauties that Monster Hunter has to offer in regards to gameplay, once you break the obtuse learning curve of its mechanics and tutorials, there is a lot to chew off for everyone. Sadly there are no new weapons and aside from some tweaks for the majority of them, they feel relatively the same as past installments.

There are new tweaks that have changed the hunt experience, for starters, to advance through the main plot you're tasked to do 4 to 5 quests to advance to the next rank, so instead of the game forcing you to follow a set of specific quests you now can choose between 8 quests (just to say a number) and complete 4 of them.

Rise introduces Rampage mode, and it uses a similar formula but it is more complex and has a more clear Tower Defense type of game structure. At first, I didn't prefer it that much, because as with everything else with Monster Hunter it's filled with new poorly explained mechanics, but once you get used to it you can have some fun with this mode, especially while playing co-op, you have to make a lot of installations management so doing it solo can overwhelm you pretty easy.

Maps range from the typical forest with ruins to underground caverns in a volcano, excluding the arena and Rampage mode there are only five areas, each of them is designed with verticality and wirebug displacement in mind. In terms of offering something new, they feel somewhat common, Monster Hunter World gave us the standard five stages but they were exciting and different, the area selection in Rise not only has pretty regular areas but some of them feel as if they are expansions or recreations of past areas.

Monster Hunter Rise features 34 large monsters to hunt. Of these 34 large monsters, only 11 are new (one of this is the Rampage one) and the other 23 are returning monsters from different generations. These new monsters are mostly based on Yokai or Japanese creature folklore and are pretty neat in design.

After finishing the last monster battle, the story ends abruptly in a cliffhanger, it teases you with story bits and a monster that could easily be in the main game, and different from MH World this time around there are no more Elder monsters, no new weapon upgrades, just the ability to change the second color in your HR armor sets that frankly, it isn't that noticeable at all. With Iceborne and many updates after, we got layered armors, sadly, the only layered armors that we currently can have are tied only for amiibo or paid DLC. In MH World at launch you could get two versions of the same armor when reaching High Rank, here you only get one and that's all, more importantly, (and I know that this has been the case since the past games but that doesn't mean that it is a good thing), the armors for the returning monsters are basically the same as always, I would love to see new designs for each monster with each new installment, Rise has a Japanese theme so imagine all the missed potential.

Sports sequels like FIFA 20XX are released yearly and for what it seems, their upgrades aren't as big as other genre sequels that take from 3 to 4 years in development, but being yearly developed, I think it is kind of justified. Monster Hunter Rise was in development for at least 4 years, in that amount of time, other sequels have been made that offer a lot of new content, so speaking only in new content, Why Rise has a free pass in terms of giving us new stuff? To me it is kind of unacceptable, this is a sequel to a now AAA property, Why does it feel more like an expansion with a full price tag?

My time with Monster Hunter Rise has been a bittersweet one, it is undeniable that I have had fun while playing it with my friends since the first demo was released, however, it has a lot of issues inside and outside the game that I think I'm too old to overlook. For starters, this is a good game as any of the last games to enter, it is still filled with cumbersome and unclear tutorials that will easily overwhelm any newcomer, but once that bridge is closed, its new mechanics and QOL changes will take a lot of your days, in a good way. For veterans, I think this is a good time to think about what we deserve as consumers, are we really ok to accept a new sequel disguised as an expansion? What Capcom is doing here with Monster Hunter is basically giving us the same game over and over again with only the bare minimum of improvements to be passed as a sequel. I still love the franchise, but for the time being, I'm kind of done with it, unless the next installment looks like a true sequel I'm probably skipping it.

I played MH4 on the ds and some demos on the wii u but never had good internet connection nor a good plataform to play it on.
Now that MH has eliminated the separation by areas i can say i finally get the game and is realy good.
This would be a 10/10 game of the year over Shin Megami Tensei V buuuut, it has +100 dlc, and the tutorials are HO-rrible, besides that, buy this game now

This game was an excellent introduction the Monster Hunter franchise for me, pulling me in almost immediately to the charming world and atmosphere Capcom has created. From the first monster I took on by myself, I was completely sucked in by the incredible music and the sounds of the hunt as I fought a powerful monster in an intense battle. From there it was an easy addiction as I always wanted to see what monster would come next, what areas it would live in, what it's movements and attacks would be like, and so much more that kept me coming back night after night for weeks straight. With such a charming town filled with fun characters and entertaining tasks to do, I never found myself getting tired of coming back to do things. If anything the game always made me feel like I didn't have enough free time to do everything I wanted in one sitting, which isn't a problem at all.

My only major complaint of this game is how they handled their cutscenes. Every monster has a cutscene before you face it for the first time... in the village, that is. If you face the monster for the first time in the hub you don't get these cutscenes at all, and with this being a multiplayer focused game that does present a sad problem. It's a little sad when you've already hunted a monster a few times with your friends, then go back to single player just to finally get it's cool introduction video. I could forgive this if the hub didn't have cutscenes at all, but they do have their own unique monster intros once you get to a higher hunting rank, so there was no reason for them to do things this way. Minor complaints include certain NPCs not telling you when you have new things to say, or dumping pages of tutorials on you right as you start your journey.

But in the grand scheme of things, these really are minor complaints. The core experience here isn't story, it's an intricate battle of you (and sometimes friends) vs a world of monsters so you can have intense battles, then craft their remains into very cool looking armor. It may sound basic and barebones to an outsider, but once you get your hands on this game for a few hours it becomes impossible to put down. I'm so glad I gave this franchise a chance because it has completely charmed me, and I believe I'll be returning for every core entry going forward. I will happily await the free DLC that will be coming today and the following month. I look forward to seeing them end the story, since again, it's missing from the base game.

I've been having a great time with this Monster Hunter. It feels optimal for the Switch, with different areas big enough to make you explore them but not too big to slow the game. The addition of the Palamute riding feels very good and makes the game more fast-paced, which is ideal for hunts on the go. Moreover, it seems that the game will get periodical updates, which is a huge success!

I’m impressed by how well the developers thought this game through. Rise simultaneously improves the formula used in World and makes Monster Hunter more friendly towards newcomers. It makes great use of Switch’s nature and by clearly separating the multiplayer from the single-player campaign, it ensures you’re going to have fun regardless of the circumstances. Apart from one subpar mode (which imitates a tower defense), it’s an amazing game. [06/2021, p.42]

Rise has taken note of the franchise’s most successful elements, and refined them into the best Monster Hunter yet. By continuing the streamlining that Generations and World started, Rise has focused on making the actual hunting the most engaging it has ever been.
