There’s nothing new here and if you’ve played Maneater on other platforms you need to ask yourself if the portable nature of the Switch makes it worth double dipping on this one. I enjoyed the initial release and I am glad this title made it to Nintendo’s system, it’s done so with only relatively minor sacrifices making it a pleasure to dive back in!

Turning the usual “human hunts animal” expectation on its head, Maneater is much more than a simple shark simulator, and provides an fun open world RPG that you can really sink your teeth into.

Maneater was worth the wait on Nintendo Switch. It's not a perfect game, but it's a hell of a lot of fun. It's the murderous Ecco the Dolphin I didn't realize I always needed. If you're a stickler for graphics, you might prefer playing it on another console. But for playing a hungry shark on the run, there's nothing better. Here's hoping this isn't the last we see from Tripwire in this delightfully demented new IP.

Maneater is still one of a kind experience and if this is the only way to play it I think this is a really well done port that deserves the $40 price tag; just note that the Switch version doesn’t appear to be getting the DLC that other platforms will be getting later this year.

Maneater is a fresh, wild and fun proposal that puts us in the shoes of a shark to develop its life and revenge. The beauty of its seabed and an interesting proposal can attract many players who don't mind the little variety in its missions and its improvable controls.

This is a game that I could not put down when I originally played it on PlayStation, and I’ve enjoyed re-experiencing it on the Switch, despite the dip in visuals. If you have the means of playing Maneater on an Xbox or PlayStation, that would be my recommendation. If not, then the Switch is a competent port that will give you the same overall experience. Regardless, Maneater is friggin’ jawesome – don’t miss out.

Maneater on Nintendo Switch is still the same silly, irreverent offering it is on the other platforms, but it doesn't look quite as pretty and there's nothing to shout about here if you've already played it.

I'm not going to spend too long writing this review, but simply put, this game executes the concept well.

It's a bizarre and outlandish revenge story of a shark evolving to become the supreme of its kind so as to get back at the fisher who killed her mother. Has all the makings of a great open-world game. At least give the game a shot, as it has me hooked (no pun intended).

    a swimmingly good time
Maneater is an 8 hour long action rpg where you play as a shark, to prevent spoilers ill just say this is a revenge story…
A revenge story that is told through a reality tv style…
here you swim the swamps and oceans on your quest to become a mega shark.. and really this is just a game about dumb fun,
eating other animals, battling your way up the food chain, completing quests and finding collectables to progress through the story…
And again this is just a dumb fun game.. it’s a nice distraction.. as maneater overall is pretty repetitive and tedious after a while… a game that’s more fun with breaks in between a new rigion… I never really found the exploration to be fun or even aquring new skills or leveling up the different equippable upgrades.. this game is simply swim and either take on a hunted animal in that region, take on an apex animal which is a regions boss fights, do some population control or eat some humans… rinse repeat all the way til the end of the game..
Maneater is its most special during its first few hours as youre flaing with all the cool things you can do.. hopping on shore to snack on some human flesh.. antagonizing bounty hunters to come out and play so you can eat them and aquire a new upgradable item to increase your stains or gain a new ability… all of this is a blast… but it remains a blast to the past afterwards as maneater doesn’t really do much to keep you entertained beyond those first few hours..
eventually it just feels like a map cleaning game..
Ultimately though maneater is fun distraction… despite the tedium I thankfully had a revenge story pulling me through, and a progression system that actually felt like It mattered..
    I give maneater
    a 7/10

Wisely letting you initially get a taste of the carnage and mayhem to come you’ll get to terrorize some tourists and take on hunters right away, leading to some story elements that will then start you out as square one as a mere pup trying to survive in the bayou. From here the game plays much like classic titles where you’ll need to attack and consume other creatures roughly the same strength or less than you, with an option to take a chance on bigger creatures who you’ll get a great reward for defeating but could easily succumb to as well if you push too hard. The thing is, the grind can be very slow as you swim all around in search of prey and pick-ups to help your case, so ultimately even though you can slowly upgrade to becoming a truly fearsome force of nature those thrills are, by comparison, short lived to quite a fair amount of repetition to get there. The high points are a thrill, just be sure you’re ready for soldiering through the mid and low ones on the way.
