Immortals Fenyx Rising tries to capture lightning in a bottle with its Breath of the Wild-inspired gameplay, but ends up being more of a lightning thief; it's not as nice to look at and the puzzles aren't as satisfying. Still, the combat is fun, the storytelling is excellent and, despite not being anywhere near as polished as Nintendo's 2017 effort, it certainly does a passable impression. If you crave more Zelda and don't mind the off-brand version, go for it, but if for some reason you still haven't played Breath of the Wild, then that's the game to go for.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is ambitious and putting this game on a Nintendo Switch is a feat, in a certain way. However, the game fails to impress at the several facets it puts up - there's plenty of content, but it gets repetitive soon; the game world is vast, but the enemies' variety is too short; the combat is engaging, but quickly becomes too simplistic. On top of that, the game is clearly affected by performance issues on the Nintendo Switch. While there are good elements on display, Immortals Fenyx Rising could certainly use some improvements in order to stand out on the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising is overall a great game that I’m excited to keep coming back to, but the Switch version is such a disappointment that I’m strongly considering starting my entire playthrough over on another platform. I love the setting based in Greek mythology, and I’ve been enjoying the adventure almost non-stop, only ever getting bored during the icon hunt whenever I reach a new area once every couple of hours. It’s a shame that Switch players will be getting such a compromised version, since I really feel like the weak port does a huge disservice to everything the game succeeds at. I think you should play Immortals: Fenyx Rising, but you should not do so on Switch if you can help it.

Those who play Immortals Fenyx Rising on Switch should be wary of joy-con drift. Drifting is annoying in some games but catastrophic in this one for aforementioned cliff-tripping reasons.

A lot of critics are looking down on this game because it copies a lot of its core ideas from Breath of the Wild. But you know what? This gameA lot of critics are looking down on this game because it copies a lot of its core ideas from Breath of the Wild. But you know what? This game does all of those things better.

It's so much fun to move in this game. You have so much stamina and so many ways to use it after just a little bit of exploration and upgrades. No two players will travel across a field or gap in exactly the same way. Platforming challenges are always a joy, and there's way more variety in puzzles because there are so many ways to move Fenyx around.

Combat is super complex, and with dozens of buffs to choose from based on your two armor pieces and three weapons, there are so many different ways to tune fights to your liking. Even with combos that feel super OP at times, encounters are rarely a cakewalk, and you're encouraged to keep exploring to find potion ingredients even all the way into the endgame.

The game has so many systems and ways that you interact with the world, and there are rewards that help upgrade everything. As a result, exploration always feels rewarding because you're not just going to find a weapon when you've been full for the last 12 hours, and you're not just going to find 1/4 of a heart when you already have 20. You can find shards to upgrade your armor and weapons to help with combat, or you can find coins to upgrade your abilities to help with puzzles or even let you skip some of them entirely.

The writing is funny too, and even though not every line hits, you actually care about the characters and empathize with them when they are sad or feel hurt. The story gives you good reasons to explore the entire environment and its dedication to realistic Greek Mythology (as opposed to Disney nonsense) is admirable.

Basically, the tl;dr is if Breath of the Wild is a 10/10, this game is an 11/10. It's just that good.

I use the Switch version during bus rides and during breaks at work. With the cross platform saves I can continue my saves on my PC at home. The game is great, but as expected the poor performance of the Switch make the comparison from PC difficult. Overall, it is good, but BOTW did a better job in using higher cel-shading contrast to cover poor texture resolution. But the game is very good in its own right. It is good to see ambitious games on the switch catalog, for the use of cross platform progression or for those who do not have a PC or another console. Go for it, Immortals is fun, rewarding, a great adventure, epic soundtracks, dynamic DMC-like combats and with a nice open world.

Platforming in this game is a nightmare,Ive had crashes that lost me large chunks of progress, and the controls feel clunky and unintuitive. Platforming in this game is a nightmare, you have maybe 1 in 4 chance of ledge grabbing when you're smack against a ledge. Jumps are both precise and imprecise at the same time leading to frustrating platforming challenges on geometry where its not obvious where you can and cannot land.

Combat is satisfying but is just a 1:1 transfer over from AC, so no real points for anything unique but its serviceable.

If you really liked BOTW for its puzzle dungeons then this game will let you down every single time. The overworld exploration is passable but the dungeons which are required for upgrades and gear are boring at best, and mindnumbingly frustrating at their worst. Theres no charm to them. Its either just a puzzle about timing and platforming, or putting thing A on to spot B. If these were spaced out more then I'd have less of an issue but these rifts are everywhere and constitute a large chunk of the game. Its a shame this game tried to bite BOTWs gameplay loop because everything that it did to copy BOTW failed miserably.

A lot of its own charm and mechanics work fairly well. Its an ubisoft open world at its core and those games are fine on their own if not a bit samey and predictable. Predictable, but never inherently bad. Its when Ubisoft tried to leech off the success of a more competent studio that they fell flat on their face. Everything the copied from BOTW is just worse, some times horrifically so. Also microtransactions.
