I put just under 50 hr in this game and generally enjoyed my time with the game, but the switch version has some serious issues. There isnt anything great about the story or gameplay here anyway so the crashing in the middle of challenges that I then have to redo, or during the final cut scene for example, and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe Ubisoft will fix it, but for the time being I can't recommend that anyone pick this up. Expand

Fenyx Rising is a good game done dirty on Switch with very questionable frame rates in both docked and hand held modes even with the latest patch as well as looking absolutely terrible due to the port to Switch being incredibly poorly optimised, many lighting effects have either been outright removed or disabled or toned down so much they are barely noticeable to the point something I thought was a minor visual glitch on Switch is actually meant to be a glowing tree trunk you get Golden Amber from.

The source of the terrible performance and visuals on Switch from the few tests I've done seem to be coming from NPC draw distances being unnecessarily high (about 300m) and lighting effects from large braziers being visible at absurd distances as well (1000m or more). Strangely, from a high elevation looking out to sea also tanks the frame rate (tested in The Forgelands) so likely world draw distance is an issue as well, or the water simulation effects severely drain resources. There's no excuses for Fenyx to run, or look, this bad on Switch titles such as Xeonoblade 2/3 are evidence of this.

Zeus needs help, the greek gods are in trouble, all of the mortals are stone.. except for one of course.. you… you creae your character and its off to helping zeus and the rest of the gods in this open world puzzle game… and if there weren’t such a large emphises on the puzzle part, this game as series has such great potential… for starters this world is beautiful, though there are crashing issues is you play in pretty mode vs the run better mode on the playstations 5… here youll be running around, collecting items to craft consumables, find gear, and collect shards to upgrade your gear and character, run around and complete tasks for the different gods and gain new abilities.. if it stopped there I would be fine, run around this opwen world with sections that feel and look different enough reperesenting each god you help… all while the game hilariously narrates for you… a real highlight… I could’ve loved immortals fenyx.. but its insistence to try and be a breath of a wild clones, sucked away all of its charm and left immortals fenyx risings feeling like a good.. yet soulless game… its cookie cutter, and what were left with if unfun combat, and boring drug out puzzles.. the vaults are half of the game and theyre just awful.. they have their moments of being fun brain teasesers… but these puzzles show up way too frequently in your 13 plus hour journey… and I dreaded them every time.. im not a big fan of puzzles in general… but when theres essentially puzzle rooms vs environmental puzzles, I hate it even more… just let me build up my charcters, sneak around, tame and kill things while my boy zeus makes awful jokes.. that’s all I wanna do… but fenyx rising sortve blows its load for me.. if you’ve played journey to the savage planet.. it’s the same kind of thing… youre smacked with charm, mystery and immersion.. and then everything else feels lackluster in ocmparision to the greatness the adventure starts with…
While I can appreciate that this is objectively a good game that plenty will love… for me this was a game that kept throwing school work at me when all I wanted to do was play at recess… and once I get out to recess its like oh, its raining.. youre playing in the gym today, not the playground like youre used to doing.. meaning that this world is just a chore to even get around in.. the whole stamina whil you run, climb, swim, and soar thing can be fun if done right.. its not done right here.. its annoying and just makes traversal not fun.. . but I am again just speaking for myself.. for me the combat gt stale fast, the traversal becomes annoying fast, and the puzzles get annoying boring and overwhelming fast… what am I doing playing this?
for a lot of people though theyre hearing this review being all like. Yeha this is what I want, imam buy this right now.. I get it.. tis a good game, just not for me.

This game is very fun and takes many aspects from BotW and improves upon them, the trials/dungeons can be easy to very difficult but never frustratingly impossible... Give this game a try and I promise you won't be disappointed! : )

I just finished it :) I would give it 10/10, because the story is just epic, and I had a lot of fun... BUT unfortunately the frame rate on Switch is simply terrible... It rarely even hits 30fps... And in some places it drops so hard that it becomes almost unplayable... I'm not asking for 60fps you know, but I'd much rather prefer lower dynamic res and locked 30fps...

Not the best and not the worst game. It has it's merits. I play some time but mostly I do repetitive stuff. Not sure if can recommend

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is quite interesting if we compare with Assassin Creeds. Unfortunately it is not copy-past of Zelda BOW, and it is not comparable with recent Genshin Impact.
This world is dead (almost no NPC). There is world for quests. And this world is not interesting. I do not have wish to go somewhere to investigate. I go somewhere to complete quests and pass dungeons. In my opinion some dungeons are either too simple or just boring. Fighting is interesting. But enemies are similar: bears, birds, soldiers and giants.
Additionally I met some problems: there are areas where I cannot fly, but I cannot see them in Switch version, I had problems with balls in Eros's temple (they were fixed by in-room furniture), problems with strength of boss in Ares's template, phrases when I leave dungeon in Ares area.

I hope that Ubisoft will repair all problems in Switch version. But in any case this game is closer to Assassin Creed then to BOT or GI.

Mixed feelings are where I have been standing the whole time I have been playing this game.
It's like playing a Wish version of Breath of the Wild... and one cannot help themselves but to compare a lot of the game-play to the older game, like a looooooooooot.
Let's start by the good stuff: + Great story line despite the sometimes very long cinematic scenes (that you can skip) that pop

It's like playing a Wish version of Breath of the Wild... and one cannot help themselves but to compare a lot of the game-play to the older game, like a looooooooooot.

Let's start by the good stuff:
+ Great story line despite the sometimes very long cinematic scenes (that you can skip) that pop up when you are in a mood for more action
+ The whole Greek mythology stories and comments
+ The inclusive options when you can make your own avatar. Also wearing gear while making it looking like another is pretty sweet too.
+ They are not erasing the Queer history of the Greek mythology
+ One of the combos that I love the most, while exploring the land, is that you can glide with your wings until you reach the ground (or the end of your stamina) and just before the landing, summon your horse, carry on full speed until the next cliff and then jump with the horse, then off the horse (that will not die) and then glide some more... And that is pretty sweet (sorry horsy!)

Now the bad stuff... It's mainly technical
    - The game crashed 5 times in 3 weeks. This is the first game I've had on Switch that crashes. That's not ok, especially after a fight against a tough character or a run in a hard parkour.
    - I "died" so may times because the character doesn't stop when asked or because instead of climbing on the edge of the wall/platform when the stamina is almost gone, the character prefers to jump back to their death...
    - The dynamic cameras, that in the midst of battle, look at the floor/sky/wall aren't very practical when fighting a giant monster
    - the intersections and floating on this game are sur-real people! If you like a game well polished, just... I don't know, close your eyes?
    - Being forced to join the online platform/services is not fun nor cool. I have to play this game off line cause I just don't want to and there are no option to refuse it. And the only way around it, is to play in plane mode.

I have been swearing at it more than I would for any other game on switch, and yet I can't help but carry on playing. When prompted to fight the final boss and asked if I wanted to go back (or end this torturous nightmare), I did, without hesitation, because all the Tartarus parkours/challenges are pretty cool.
But I don't think I'll buy a Ubisoft game for a while. I need a loooooong break from rushed out projects that are shipped with that many issues. That's not cool, nor professional.

The game lacks some features that bring down the score: Mainly an ability to confirm your progress (missing both a way to track overall progress and a way to ensure you have all points of interest marked on the map).

The controls take some getting used to, but the game is forgiving if you run out of stamina and need to fast-travel to a nearby location instead of dying. Unfortunately,

Unfortunately, the ending came out of the blue and, in my view, made all your struggles to that point meaningless. The DLCs do build on that ending, but that doesn't excuse it.

It is nice that your unique Fenyx will carry over to the DLCs they appear in.

I'm giving this game a 7/10 because BOTW is a 9/10 to me. I can't give it an 8/10 because it's not that close to BOTW. (BOTW is my favorite game of all time because of the freedom and smoothness of gameplay. I 100%ed the game because I didn't want to quit playing, but it does have its downsides).

Anyways, I bought this game because I wanted that same experience. I played it for a few hours then put it down because it wasn't grabbing me like BOTW did. I recently picked it back up after a few months, and after about 20 hours I'm enjoying it way more than I thought I would. Here are a few thoughts:
    - While the weapons aren't as diverse, the combat has more depth. There are special moves that you can obtain and upgrade that really make combat quite fun. I'm still learning some of the mechanics, and the battles are NOT easy (that's a good thing).
    - The cutscenes were pretty funny at first, but then they get kinda cheesy. Overall, they are well done.
    - I remapped the controls, and I think it may be causing some issues. Sometimes I can't sprint for some reason. My jump and collect/activate button are the same, so sometimes when I want to jump, I end up hitting a switch instead.
    - The world is huge, with so much stuff to do, although much of it is the same (solve a switches puzzle, defeat an enemy to unlock a chest, etc.).
    - There is not enough variation in certain areas of the map. It's just hard to distinguish between certain locations. You could show me a picture of a location in BOTW and I could tell you exactly where it is and how to get there. There were towns, springs, landmarks with unique names and history, different races of people, etc. So far in this game, I'm not finding many things to be that unique on the map.

Overall, it's a fun game. It lacks the charm and realism that BOTW has, so don't expect to feel like you are living in this world.

Obvious comparisons to BotW aside, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a pretty mediocre game. The world is sometimes empty, and sometimes has a bunch of stuff all in one place. It’s a Greek tragedy that Immortals: Fenyx Rising hasn’t received the god-like reception it deserves, as it forges its own identity albeit with some familiar themes. [Issue #3, p.57]

Immortals Fenyx Rising is always going to be compared to Breath of the Wild, but against all odds, it puts up a massively formidable fight. What's excellent about Immortals is not so much what it shares with Nintendo's biggest Zelda game, but rather where it differs, offering a fresh new approach to storytelling, a fantastic progression system, and a world that you'll never want to leave. No game is perfect, but for me, Immortals comes just about as close as you can get.

Immortals: Fenyx Rising is a superb new IP from Ubisoft. It may borrow heavily from other titles, but don’t get hung up on it. This isn’t a cash grab. It’s a beautiful game and a quality product, crafted with love.
