Although with a different nature and less fiercely hardcore, Boomerang X reminded me with undisguised enthusiasm that independent gem that goes by the name of Devil Daggers. Also in the debut feature of DANG! it all revolves around fierce, tight-knit gameplay, expertly built around brilliant controls and a fast-paced pace. Massacre legions of creeping blackish monstrosities with exasperated aerial acrobatics on the notes of an exotic oriental soundtrack proves to be a tasty satisfaction: even within its limits (starting with a price threshold of 19.99 € not exactly popular), Boomerang X is only the 'latest in a long series of targets centered by Devolver Digital.

Boomerang X is challenging and has a great combat system. Despite being quite abstract about the story, the desire is to play for several hours on end. Fly and play against your enemies in this amazing game.

Boomerang X is a very unique shooter where you use a boomerang. Clever and well design, it is a good option if you’re looking for something different and familiar at the same time.

Boomerang X is incredibly fun and we loved it from the start. The combat system is very unique and it never bores the player.

It is another time when I got fooled by the hype and praise from the players. It is one of those ports, that had the goal of PORTING the game, and not making it ENJOYABLE to play. If you buy this, that means you payed for a super thin toilet paper, which rips every time you try to actually use it, but if you are a hardcore player, then you will find fingering yourself a pleasant pastime.

Among all problems with this port the first thing you will notice is sluggish controls. The worst thing you could imagine in a FAST PASED SHOOTER is delayed controls. The camera move, abilities, jumping - everything is this game is delayed. Kind of makes it special when you eventually hit the target without the use of any ability. But things get worse if you try to play with gyroscope on. The time to process your controller tilt just adds up which slows down your gameplay even more. The next thing you will notice is that even on the first arena the game lags. You expect that so stylised game will run well? Then cool your expectations. Not only it runs at 30 fps, but also somehow lags even with a few enemies in your sight, and things even get worse with your progress when groups of monsters become hoards of titans. On the last arenas it just turns into a slow motion simulator, because with all this lag and delay it is terribly hard to play.

Optionally, if you changed your keybinds and died then one half of them will reset to default. For no reason. And also the other half of them will reset after relaunching the game. Gives you some motivation to run like a rat to avoid death, huh.

In the end, this port just not worth it, not even a single penny for "so much effort invested" in it. There are numerous superior shooters to choose from on the Switch. (Almost) anything will be better than this.

Extremely fun mix of momentum-based movement and projectile aiming. Short but replayable.

Boomerang X is proof that not all concepts were meant to be executed. This game feels like a demo; there's very little content and no level gets super complex. You do the same frustrating thing a few times and then the game is over. It's simply boring. Full Review »
