Game for 3-4 hours. NG+ also take 4 hours but it much harder than original mode. Developers wanted to add Endless mode where your have unlimited waves of monsters. Motion control really helps, it much better than without it.

Concepts are often better than their execution. Boomerang X is proof that not all concepts were meant to be executed. This game feels like a demo; there's very little content and no level gets super complex. You do the same frustrating thing a few times and then the game is over. It's simply boring.

A first-person action game based on an original movement scheme: your weapon doubles as a teleporting device. That dynamic allows you to stay in the air indefinitely, and to move at blazing speed around a series of fighting arenas.

    CONS:

A ONE-TRICK PONY: The whole game is all about the movement idea. While that idea is good, it's not always great: movement often feels a bit random, because your boomerang is too fast for precise control.

SOME STAGES JUST AREN'T FUN: The last few fights draw out for a long time. The game only saves after you've finished a fight–so those long stretches of fighting result in annoying artificial difficulty.

BAD SUPPORT: I could barely play the game because of a very frustrating bug in the gyro controls. The problem has since been fixed, but it took months for the team to address it. I tried to give this game a fair rating, but the truth is that those technical problems destroyed the fun for me.

    PROS:

MOSTLY FUN: At its best, Boomerang X is a fun game. Zipping around the arena without ever touching the ground is nice for a while, even if I personally didn't find that mechanic as compelling as other reviewers.

UNIQUE STYLE: Boomerang X is a short, stylish game. Its graphics might not be for everyone, but they're instantly recognizable. If you're into short and unique indies, this one might be right up your alley.

GREAT FINAL BOSS: After the infuriating level that precedes it, the final boss rekindled my faith in the game. It's not drawn out, and it makes great use of the best aspects of Boomerang X, while doing away with the boring protracted fights.

The shuriken graphics are amazing, I mean just look at that thing, at least a few million polygons just on that shuriken

With indie titles I’m always tickled when I encounter something just a bit different that feels fresh and challenging, and for me Boomerang X (though perhaps a bit on the short side overall) fits nicely into that groove. Quickly acquiring the said boomerang, which I prefer to imagine as the legendary Glaive from the movie Krull (yes, it has one less prong and looks different, but this is my Colwyn fantasy!) you’ll very consistently be given some new move or technique and then a series of trials that will push you to show mastery of that new skill. Once you’re rolling you’ll be dashing, floating in slow-mo, and picking off enemies who get increasingly challenging like a pro… though each new and tougher variant you may need to puzzle over before understanding how to take them out. Perhaps the rough handful of hours you get is appropriate, as it keeps the title from overstaying its welcome, but I still would love to see a few more levels of craziness to really push my skills tacked onto the end just to give the solid design its full and fitting due. If you’re a fan of accurate shooting while on the fly and some quick-moving traversal this should satisfy you pretty much completely.

Extremely fun mix of momentum-based movement and projectile aiming. Short but replayable.

Awesome game on PC, but absolutely terrible port on the Switch. It is another time when I got fooled by the hype and praise from the players. It is another time when I got fooled by the hype and praise from the players. It is one of those ports, that had the goal of PORTING the game, and not making it ENJOYABLE to play. If you buy this, that means you payed for a super thin toilet paper, which rips every time you try to actually use it, but if you are a hardcore player, then you will find fingering yourself a pleasant pastime.

Among all problems with this port the first thing you will notice is sluggish controls. The worst thing you could imagine in a FAST PASED SHOOTER is delayed controls. The camera move, abilities, jumping - everything is this game is delayed. Kind of makes it special when you eventually hit the target without the use of any ability. But things get worse if you try to play with gyroscope on. The time to process your controller tilt just adds up which slows down your gameplay even more. The next thing you will notice is that even on the first arena the game lags. You expect that so stylised game will run well? Then cool your expectations. Not only it runs at 30 fps, but also somehow lags even with a few enemies in your sight, and things even get worse with your progress when groups of monsters become hoards of titans. On the last arenas it just turns into a slow motion simulator, because with all this lag and delay it is terribly hard to play.

Optionally, if you changed your keybinds and died then one half of them will reset to default. For no reason. And also the other half of them will reset after relaunching the game. Gives you some motivation to run like a rat to avoid death, huh.

In the end, this port just not worth it, not even a single penny for "so much effort invested" in it. There are numerous superior shooters to choose from on the Switch. (Almost) anything will be better than this.

I recommend Boomerang X, but with one last caveat – consider its PC version before taking the plunge on Switch. I did well with this edition, but I think mouse-and-keyboard controls might have made me like it even more. [Issue #54 – September 2021, p. 29]

Boomerang X is a diamond of a 3D action game. While it might not offer beautiful cutscenes or clever dialogue, the action itself constantly manages to amaze. The stellar boomerang mechanics are in perfect harmony with the super fast action. For fans of the genre, Boomerang X is an absolute joy from start to finish.

Boomerang X is challenging and has a great combat system. Despite being quite abstract about the story, the desire is to play for several hours on end. Fly and play against your enemies in this amazing game.
