My personal game of the year. Jet Set Radio & Jet Set Radio Future were my childhood but in my opinion? Bomb Rush Cyberfunk surpasses and exceeds both games.

Team Reptile really outdid themselves on this and I don't think SEGA could surpass it with the new game they're working on. This is the biggest "Screw it, I'll do it myself." moment ever.

A complete masterpiece of modern times, a frenetic gameplay, an incredible soundtrack with a varied number of recognized artists, an intriguing story, well developed, without a doubt, this is a Must Play, 10/10

This game is amazing! Don’t listen to the taint stranglers that come in and spam zero scores for no reason. If you loved JSR you will love this game and even if you haven’t played it and are looking to get into this genre this is an amazing, addicting, fun experience and a great place to start. This is truly a love letter to us long time jet set radio fans and I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. This game was worth the wait and I’m very excited to enjoy it much like I did with JSR for years to come. Expand

Simply the game is a masterpiece for me, I feel deeply the spirit of JSR in the game in addition to its own identity. I recommend this game for JSR fans.

Excellent game, engaging gameplay and a well written story. It brings a refreshing touch to what JSRF once did while also keeping the things that made that game interesting. This game plays exactly like how I remember Jet Set Radio playing on the Dreamcast but with brand new songs that match the style of JSR perfectly, better controls (especially due to being able to run/walk as well) and with higher quality/definition.

Highly recommended to anyone who played and enjoyed JSR/JSRF in the past and even recommend to others who are even slightly interested in

JSR is one of my favorite games of all time and witnessing a game that had even surpassed JSR, a thing that I never believed it could happen in this century, I mean, that's really something to think about it....

Thank you Team Reptile, thank you for creating this amazing piece of art!!!!!

It just so happens that this particular niche hasn't seen any meaningful innovation or even any successful release since basically Jet Set Radio itself.
Bombrush Cyberfunk might not be a revolutionary genre defining game, but it is very fun and basically the first competent Jet Set Radio inspired game ever. Its art and music are well done and the game itself captures the essence of what it was going for well. The core gameplay is an immediately noticable improvement over Jet Set Radio, as should be expected from a game releasing 20 years later. Outside the improvements to the core gameplay (movement and controls), there aren't many meaningful alterations to the gameplay systems introduced in Jet Set Radio, but considering this is a game from a small team in a genre completely starved for new entries, the fact that they made a fun new game that captures the same spirit should absolutely be considered a success. I'm enjoying it a lot and hope that it will be successful enough for the team to make a sequel, one in which they will hopefully be able to take everything they learned while making this game and evolve the gameplay into uncharted territory.

Jet Set Radio had a massive impact on my childhood. Irreversibly changing both my music tastes, and world view. Having also played Lethal League I always felt that if any studio were able to capture the same magic JSR had it would be Team Reptile. To say I was insanely excited for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to release is an understatement.

Having also played Lethal League I always felt that if any studio were able to capture the same magic JSR had it would be Team Reptile. To say I was insanely excited for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to release is an understatement.

I have played it to completion, and I'm happy to say that it scratched the JSR itch. The movement and trick system, while not insanely technical, was fun. Exploration was light, but always kept you looking out for areas to graffiti, collectables to obtain, and the little challenge high five guys. The music is, of course, phenomenal. Once again irreversibly changing my music tastes for the better. The visuals are exactly what you'd expect of a game inspired by JSR, they scream Sega Dreamcast and I love it.

I've seen a lot of people complain about "combat" but to be quite honest I never had an issue with it. There are very few instances in which you are forced to fight the boots on ground police and the other encounters with them in vehicles and such felt pretty fleshed out. I see and understand what people are saying but I'm under the impression that non-forced encounters with them were supposed to be an annoyance to avoid rather than confront.

I do have a couple of gripes with the game. The first of which is the story. I really dig the concept but I wish a couple more of the characters were fleshed out, or more importantly, the relationships between these characters. Tryce and the main character have an unshakable bond by the end of the game, but you never really get to see how that bond was formed. Sure they're in a crew together with a common goal, but you never really get to see like a moment that they share. The other and biggest issue I had with the game was the bugs I encountered during cutscenes. The game just REALLY seems to hate cutscenes. During several different ones the screen would just turn black and I had to mash through the rest of the cutscene and look it up on the internet. This unfortunately happened during the final two cutscenes in the game, the latter of which the game crashed completely. I played on the Switch version so it could be a hardware issue. While this is something to be wary about at the time of this review, I anticipate this will be fixed eventually.

Overall I think it's important to keep expectations in check when playing games like these. This isn't the new JSR game, it's a game developed by an indie studio inspired by JSR. If you go into this game with wild expectations hoping it surpasses what came before, I think you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a game that is a love letter to a beloved franchise, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

A great game with so many fine details paying homage to JSR and JSRF. The controls are fluid, which is my only complaint about those other 2 games. Lack of any indie/rock music is disappointing but that’s just a nitpick. And more varied cities would have been nice.

I have no idea what that 0 rating review is talking about. How can you look forward to this game and expect something

I have no idea what that 0 rating review is talking about. How can you look forward to this game and expect something different than what it is? This was never going to be anything other than a bigger scale jet set radio. And for people complaining about the price tag? This game has been more fun for me than nearly any AAA $70 game this year.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a wonderful tribute to the electric Jet Set Radio franchise. BRC is familiar to JSRF but also innovates in all the places that count. Do not let these negative reviews sway your decision. This game is worth the money and will give you a fun 10 hours of gameplay and a nice casual experience to come back and enjoy whenever you want

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a brilliantly niche title. Apart from Jet Set Radio 20 years ago, it seems no one has attempted to capture this kinda 90s/2000s skater-graffiti counter-culture in a video game since. And I'm glad that Team Reptile did, because Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is just what I was hoping for! Fully sick!

If you enjoyed Jet Set Radio, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the game for you. I wish it did a bit more to stand out, but we don’t really get many games like this, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a polished and straight up fun experience with an amazing vibe and superb soundtrack. It is held back by some technical issues on Switch though.
