Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is all style, no substance. For the positives, the visuals, music, and atmosphere make it look and feel amazing, reckoning back to Jet Set Radio. However, its the gameplay and controls that make the game fall flat. For one, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk includes a nice gameplay loop, making you earn rep or points to advance. Sometimes, you'll battle another crew, which you'll have to beat them in turns of points. There is an unnecessary difficulty spike, especially with the second battle. There are also platforming sections which feel out of place and tedious. Every city in the game feels the same, with locations rarely deviating. The best levels in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk are Red's visions, which offer detailed and wacky levels to explore. Additionally, rails, light posts, and objects will be inconsistent to clip on to. Nevertheless, the worst part about Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the police combat. Police not only feel unnecessary but tedious to fight, being shoehorned into riding rails and performing tricks. The combat with police lacks too, with a barebones fighting system that doesn't work well into the BRC's moves. Finally, the $40 price tag is a hefty one at that, especially for an indie game. While I definitely want to support Team Reptile for their works, $40 is pushing it. Expand

I recommend, even if overall it was nice, but I'm a little disappointed.
8/9 hours to finish the story, a nice tribute to JSRF. But there are still a few things missing.
The designs are less iconic, especially for enemy gangs. There are none who have the style of the Immortals (the mummies) or the Noise Tanks (the robots) or even the Poison Jam (the fish cosplayers). For the level

For the level design it started very well (the first 2/3 maps are really cool) but the last ones are really forgettable.

AND damn, sometimes the cam can trigger you a lot, I raged about the last boss because the cam changing angles at the worst times, and it was not difficult at all.. just horrible to play.
Its the same for some levels i will keep silent here for no spoilers

As for the story itself, it's pretty predictable. Afterwards we don't play for the story as a priority.

On the good side: the music is very good, the gameplay is worthy of JSRF. Graffiti are more interesting to do. it's nice for cel shading. I really like having the choice between rollerblading, skateboarding or BMX. And the phone is a very good idea (the tutorials are text messages, the map is an app and you choose your music on it) more immersive than if it were in a menu.

If you are counting your pennies, I would advise waiting a little before buying it until it is a little cheaper. Because it ends really quickly for 40€.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a brilliantly niche title. Apart from Jet Set Radio 20 years ago, it seems no one has attempted to capture this kinda 90s/2000s skater-graffiti counter-culture in a video game since. And I'm glad that Team Reptile did, because Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is just what I was hoping for! Fully sick!

It's colorful and fun, but there is no long-term appeal.

If you enjoyed Jet Set Radio, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the game for you. I wish it did a bit more to stand out, but we don’t really get many games like this, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a polished and straight up fun experience with an amazing vibe and superb soundtrack. It is held back by some technical issues on Switch though.
