Honestly one of the biggest disappointments of the year for me, I've been waiting for this game for years and I haven't liked it at all, it costs $40 and gives you very few hours of game play, repetitive music and several bugs or camera errors.
Honestly for the time of development this seems a shame and should not be so expensive.

Bought it for the Switch at launch, a good reminder of why I dont buy games at launch.

The bad stuff: - controls are mushy, and ill-defined. A powerful sensation that pushing the same buttons in the same places rarely yields the same results - I'm not thrilled with the Switch's controller, I've mostly used a playstation over my gaming life, but I rarely feel in control of this game. -

    - the tutorial is brief, and discusses none of the skills that make traveling around easy or interesting. There are small additional teaching asides scattered around, but none of them are presented as such, and I had long gone to youtube to find help before I located them.
    - I'm told the music gets good, once you acquire more of it, but in the early stages, it is monotonous to the extreme. Combined with the extremely limited emote sounds from your character, the game is a dreary soundscape.
    - It's a remarkably empty feeling space that you end up playing in. Just acres of flat, barren space, with a handful of npcs loitering around; this probably isnt as big a concern if you jive with the control style, but I didnt, so I spent a lot of time traversing these wastes with one of two songs playing.

    Good stuff:
    - I like the art style
    - the youtube community support is genuinely outstanding, and someone is around to help explain basically everything in the game, already. Heck, there were a lot of good guides night of launch.

This is one of the worst purchases I have made as a gamer. It bummed me out enough to make an account to offer up a somewhat differing opinion than the going dialogue, just bc I would have LOVED to know about how washy the controls were, and how maddening the early stages would be because of it. Would have saved me 40 bucks. Maybe it will save you!

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a brilliantly niche title. Apart from Jet Set Radio 20 years ago, it seems no one has attempted to capture this kinda 90s/2000s skater-graffiti counter-culture in a video game since. And I'm glad that Team Reptile did, because Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is just what I was hoping for! Fully sick!

It's colorful and fun, but there is no long-term appeal.

If you enjoyed Jet Set Radio, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the game for you. I wish it did a bit more to stand out, but we don’t really get many games like this, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a polished and straight up fun experience with an amazing vibe and superb soundtrack. It is held back by some technical issues on Switch though.
