Not impressed with this game. Much like fire emblem engage, another turn based strategy game, advance wars reboot doesn't know what it wants to be. I don't like the direction this mashup went in and it's hard to take this game as serious as the game wants me to when they are blending jokes, the art style, and the story, and they are all on separate pages, in different books. This game is confused on what it wants to be, and as a result, I'm confused on what it is or who it's supposed to cater to. I also don't like the tutorial giving me a bunch of information all at once, then putting me in the game and expecting me to remember everything that was said. Some of the troops look alike and I found myself almost getting wiped out because I was putting them in the wrong spots because I confused one for another. I also don't like how when I'm taking over a city I have to during each turn tell my units to take over that city. Seems like if I put a unit on a city, that should be a given, or at least tell them once and they figure it out every round, but this game wants me to micromanage them but the art style and jokes don't lend itself to that serious of a game. CONS:
    - "BAIT Wars 1+2: RE-BAIT Camp" would suit better. You're not encourage to advance, there are many baits waiting for you.
    - To get "S" rank scores, some maps will require ONE strategy. Meaning you have to do the exact area movements, thus removing the flexibility to try different strategies (only one will work). This is like playing chess against Kasparov and not being allowed to trade/lose a few pieces on the way.
    - Poorly balanced. NPC takes advantage of fog of war and forests. You don't know how many units they have and where they're located, but NPC knows exactly where to scout and hit you, it's like playing against someone using map-hack.
    - You CAN'T pause on NPC's turn. If you accidentally skip your turn, you have to wait for the NPC to move all units, attack with all units, use their secret special (power), and only then you're allowed to pause and restart.

Advance Wars 1+2: Reboot Camp is a faithful reincarnation of the two originals released more than 20 years ago. Both campaigns have a pleasant pace and a moderately increasing difficulty level, which can also be regulated via an option. Advance Wars 1+2: Reboot Camp has an enormous replay value due to the War Room and Opponent modes, as well as the Design Room, where custom maps can be designed. Fast-forwarding enemy moves or repeating your own move are good innovations. Unfortunately, the remake suffers from a minimalistic PvP mode. You often wish for the old graphics back, which is accompanied by the bombastic new music at the same time. The partial text localization unfortunately diminishes the acoustic experience. With an additional year of development time, one would have wished for more, but is generally never disappointed by the single player mode.

The 'toybox' aesthetic is so-so but it does grow on you, but I understand if it's offputting for some. But the only reason I can't score it a 9 is because the multiplayer is half-baked, which is a massive shame as this could have had a dedicated online audience for years to come if it had something that could supplant Advance Wars By Web, but alas it does not.

So for me it's a solid 8 and very much a recommended buy for any strategy enthusiast, particularly those who like single player experiences rather than multiplayer.

    2) The game has gotten a significant amount of QoL improvements. It is more than just a copy-paste from what the original was. The fact the AI doesn't cheat in Fog of War actually makes the maps enjoyable instead of a chore.

    3) Remember the game is over 2 decades old. The fact the original two games are being given an opportunity to have life breathed back into them is a good thing.

    4) The game was genuinely made with a lot of love. The new OST shows that the devs knew what they were working with, knew how much the original fanbase loved this property, and delivered us an absolute gem.

    5) If you actually enjoy turn-based strategies, this game is 100% worth your time. The game has the nintendo charm of not taking itself too seriously but is fun enough to allow you to enjoy the characters for what they are.

It is a solid entry perfect for anyone, which the original wasn't, tbh. I totally recommend it. Expand

59.99 is about 39.99 too much for this. Hate to factor price in to the review, but oh well. I bet that many reboots or remasters of old games are worth it (Tactics Ogre and Metroid Prime especially), but this is simply not worth 59.99, and it's sad that the price is so awful, because now we may not see another game in the series since sales have not been great.

Lots of content here, both campaigns plus the hard campaigns. There are also anime animations at the end of the campaigns for both games which are great!

The battle animations are beautiful and detailed. I like how the different nations units have different designs on the map and not just in the battle animations, this wasn't the case in the original games on the GBA or DS.

Negatives: No online match making with randoms, typical nintendo. Very sad

The gameplay is extremely varied thanks to the objectives in each battle, the solutions to the battles are always numerous and resemble more of a tactical puzzle. Even if you dislike the anime stylization of the story, the characters, or the general sauce around them, both games are excellent tactical strategies in the style of Battle Isle, and indeed the original Wars series from which Advance Wars sprang.
