    Looking back on "Metal Gear Solid", it surprises me how well this game has aged, considering most PS1 and N64 games did not age well at all. One of the best cinematic experiences in video games, "MGS" tells a well crafted (albeit often confusing) story with terrific voice acting, memorable characters, inventive gameplay and beautiful cinematography.     I played MGS back in the 90's and I remember it being pretty good, but now after replaying it almost 20 years later I'm glad to realize that the legend is true and this is actually a timeless masterpiece that aged extremely well and still is one of the best pieces of art in this genre. Amazing story, characters, atmosphere, gameplay, boss fights, this game can also troll you pretty hard inI played MGS back in the 90's and I remember it being pretty good, but now after replaying it almost 20 years later I'm glad to realize that the legend is true and this is actually a timeless masterpiece that aged extremely well and still is one of the best pieces of art in this genre.     A profound classic that started a legacy. To this very day it doesn't cease to impress me and is one of few games I have witnessed to aged with excellence. A game you should at least get the chance to experience, because it may change how you see games today.

    I played this game from start to finish, and it is simply a masterpiece.

    From the beginning to end, the story keeps you captivated with interesting characters (though it gets a bit on the cheesy japanese side from time to time) and great gameplay.

    The fact that I'm writing this with full confidence in 2014, should say how much of game it was for the 1990s.

    To this day it is one of the most groundbreaking games of all time. You can sit down and play this game 16 years after it's release and still be completely blown away. The storytelling and characters are excellent. The graphics and gameplay mechanics are of course outdated, but again the game is 16 years old. Top 10 game of all time.

    People may say there are too many cutscenes and not enough gameplay, but that is definitely not a problem. The story in this game is one of my favorite stories of all time in video games, and the gameplay is still incredibly fun after all these years. I'm 15 years old and have played all the new Xbox 360 and PS3 games, and this game is still able to compete with the new releases.

Metal Gear Solid has easily one of the best stories in any game I have ever played and it`s presented perfectly thanks to an amazing soundtrack, great visuals, fantastic voice acting and stunning directing. This game has the best tactical espionage gameplay I have experienced so far but for me,This game blew my mind in such a significant way that it changed my perception of video games. Metal Gear Solid has easily one of the best stories in any game I have ever played and it`s presented perfectly thanks to an amazing soundtrack, great visuals, fantastic voice acting and stunning directing.     I was always uninterested in this game, but after hearing an over abundance of praise I thought I would try it.     It was ahead of its time, a masterpiece of story, directing and atmosphere. Played about 10 times, this game led me to the story driven single player part of gaming that I value the most today and that I'm not going to leave.

    Metal Gear Solid is a perfect Amalgamation of Gameplay, Story, and design. it's story still sticks we me today and i loved every twist and turn, the gameplay was tough and challenging but not in a cheap way and while it looks dated now it was at the time amazing to see graphics like this. it's a damn near perfect game and is in my top 10 if not top 5 games

    From it's dark and gripping storyline to it's well crafted stealth gameplay, this game is a blast to play, even now, more than a decade after its release it still is one of the best games ever created.

    WOW! even now I wanna play it. 2 discs game. additional mission like VR missions and Time missions. Best example of stealth games. a lot of equipment, secrets, possibility to make choice which will affect the game. bonuses after completing the game. nice characters, music, everything!

    Fantastic game, first of all the soundtrack is great and will definitely keep you interested for ages. The story is one of the best I have ever seen and heard. The characters are great and extremely memorable there is a lot of character development that adds a lot of depth to the game.     Quite Simply my favorite PS1 game of all time. If you haven't played this game yet. Then I highly recommend you do so this game does everything right, the storyline, characters, music, gameplay, cutscenes, graphics(for the time) and boss battles. it ticks all the right box's!

    Metal Gear Solid is a classic video game that's like watching a movie while playing a game. The cut-scenes are just like a Hollywood blockbuster because of the music and camera styles, the voice acting is also good and makes it feel like you're watching a film. Solid Snake is a cool character (Also Dante in Devil May Cry is cool), the game sees Solid Snake working for FOXHOUND again and he must enter a base Antarctic base where a new Metal Gear is being made. Metal Gear REX.

    It seems a group of FOXHOUND that Liquid recruited are protecting the Metal Gear, the members are: Revolver Ocelot, a master at using six-shooters, Psycho Mantis, a powerful telekinetic, Vulcan Raven, a man that is linked to the ravens and uses a huge Gatling gun, Sniper Wolf, an expert sniper and Decoy Octopus, a mysterious member of FOXHOUND.

    Also a cyborg Ninja who is Grey Fox is roaming about in the base, Snake meets with Meryl and Otacon who help him out in the base while he gets codec messages off Roy Campbell and others at the submarine.

    The game-play is easy to pick up since the codec messages give you the tips on how to play, the stealth and action is also great. Metal Gear Solid is a game that should be played. 10/10    … Expand

In MGS1, Kojima and his team put so much detail into creating the setting, that even individual desks were created to make each desk feel unique.

    I discovered the MGS saga with 5. I was amazed, The Phantom Pain was about to be my favourite game on my PS4 but then i played this masterpiece and i realized what MGSV could have been so much more, TPP became a disappointment for me, it was a good game, but when i think about Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation i think about more than just a video game. You could use it to show someoneI discovered the MGS saga with 5. I was amazed, The Phantom Pain was about to be my favourite game on my PS4 but then i played this masterpiece and i realized what MGSV could have been so much more, TPP became a disappointment for me, it was a good game, but when i think about Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation i think about more than just a video game. You could use it to show someone how video games have evolved from a toy you use in your free time to have fun to a medium to pass a message, to make someone laugh, cry, feel betrayed (we are still talking about the pixels your TV shows you). I'm not saying that it was the first game with a strong message but still one of my favourites.
    I have found some gameplay issues that were fixed in the gamecube version (I still prefer this one because "the Twin Snakes" remade lots of things that shouldn't have been redone). I needed the help of the Internet in some cases to proceed and the thing that decides which ending you get is kind of **** but it still remains as my favourite Playstation game.
    I contains some of the best moments in video game history, the plot is engaging just like you would expect from a Hideo Kojima game, the voice acting is very impressive for 1998 (just like the graphics and cinematography). It is a must-play for every gamer... also a should-play for everyone. I would give it a 9.5 if I could.    … Expand

    One of the best games of all time. The atmosphere is incredible, it has a rare quality, gritty, tense and immersive. There still isn't anything else like it, and in 1998 it was totally revolutionary.

    This is objectively and provably one of the greatest and most important games ever created... and I mean high on that list .. is probably say the 3 most important games ever made ( excluding pong ) are super Mario bros 1, street fighter 2 and Metal gear solid... you’d be hard pressed to find more influential games

    I played this game in 2016 and haven't found any other like this, the atmosphere places you in Shadow Moses and it made forget about the graphics (which honestly I love them), to put it simply it is the best game i've ever played.

    One of the best video games of all time!! There's no doubt that this game is an absolute masterpiece! This game is literally perfect in every way. Amazing story by the master director Hideo Kojima and the birth of one of gaming's most beloved and best franchises! I cant recommend this beauty enough just give it a shot and you'll be blown away as well.

    It's a masterpiece in every way that a game can be. It has more thrills and plot twists than the biggest Hollywood blockbuster, yet it does things that only a video game can accomplish. The 4th wall breaks are ingenious. In form and function, everything about this game works wonderfully.

    I just finished this game, at a loss for words. I once played Metal Gear Solid on a PS1 when I was younger, but back then I was unable to finish the tutorial. It's incredible how well this game has aged, it made me lose any sense of time I had while playing it.

    THE classic of classics. Even today in 2019 it is unmatched in terms of atmosphere. A more intelligent take on action instead of 'lol shoot the badguys'. A story brilliant enough to put weight behind your play and decisions. AKA The moment when video games became art.

    While it hasn't aged the best. Metal Gear Solid is still a timeless classic. Truly making the franchise a household name with it's interesting characters, fun use of stealth and boss battles, and a great story that kept me engaged throughout the 12 hour experience.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't play this amazing game when it first released, and first played through it a year or two ago. I was expecting a very good game even before playing it, but in the opening hour or so, the game had already built up great expectations for the rest of the game. This is by far my favourite PS1 game. With great gameplay, characters, bosses, story and moments that stick with you for a long time after the end credits roll down the screen, this game is in my opinion, a masterpiece.

    The game has aged incredibly and has surprisingly good controls for a PS1 game. Stealth is exciting especially during tense parts of the game, with well crafted environments. While some sections of the gameplay are frustrating (particularly first person aiming), most is great. Characters are all unique, from the awesome Solid Snake to Colonel Campbell, Meryl, Otacon, Liquid Snake, Ocelot, Phsyco Mantis and others. Bosses are all well designed, my personal favourite being Phsyco Mantis with the crazy fourth wall breaks, which were unexpected on my first playthrough. All of the bosses show a human, emotional side by the end of the fight, which set a new standard for characters (the bad guys don't always have to be soulless) in video games. As well as this, fights like Sniper Wolf (the 2nd one) and Metal Gear REX were thrilling at first. The story still holds up to this day, with things like Metal Gear REX, the multiple twists, FOXDIE, Lés Infants Terrible (Big Boss, by extension) and Grey Fox. Many moments in this game will definitely stick with you after you've completed it.

    While certainly not my favourite game of all time, Metal Gear Solid set a new standard for the stealth genre, as well as video games as a whole.

    The game that changed the industry forever. Not the best graphics on the time, not the best music, not the best gameplay, and not the longest. But the stealth mecanics, the story, the characters, and one of the best protagonists of all time made this game unforgettable.

    One of the most important video games of all time. It has no imperfections. Everything is so precise and soulful, truly an experience that you cannot recapture, fantastic. This is an example of what a video game should strive to be. Probably my most favorite game of all time.

    Metal Gear Solid is/was a breakthrough, genre-defining, cinematic game for the Playstation One. Revolutionary, and still relevant today. It's a quinessential classic, still worth playing in 2020 and beyond.

    The favorite game of many of us who had a PS1. It is also a film, with a plot of great tension, which perfectly accompanies its spy and infiltration gameplay.

    The game came out a year before I was born, and I didn’t even play it all the way through until the mid-2010s, but surprisingly, I still had an absolute blast with it, and still do. It’s an amazing game that somehow stands the test of time even without Nostalgia Bias. I would definitely recommend this, even if you’re not into classic games.

    I don't remember how many times have i cried, the game is full of plot twists. Best PS1 game ever existed, 10/10. Normally I would give 9.5/10 because of going to the very start of the base just to extend game time but it's a 1998 game, also i love Kojima lmao.

    Admittedly I haven't played too many Ps1 games, but I feel absolute conviction when I say, Metal Gear Solid is one of the absolute best Ps1 games ever made. A game that perfectly meshes dumb goofy humour and a serious anti-nuclear war message, all tied neatly together with amazing characters, which the sequels would only build further upon.

    Though the somewhat titular character Solid Snake, has appeared twice before in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, skipping straight ahead to this game will not leave you guessing as to who exactly Snake is, his ideals, beliefs and general personality is given plainly to the player in exposition and his dialogue with other characters. He doesn't see himself as the war hero the other characters do, making unsubtle comments about himself that go against the legend of Solid Snake. Making Snakes character even better is Meryl Silverburgh, acting as the wide eyed rookie who thinks Snake is a hero, their interactions are always great, though can lean of the edgy side occasionally. Almost done with your allies now, but up next is my personal favourite character, Hal Emmerich, better known as Otacon, which he came up with himself as a portmanteau of "Otaku Convention" Hal is a weeb. He's also the scientist behind Metal Gear Rex, the titular nuclear war mech. Developing it under the pretense of creating a Nuclear Deterrent, Hal later joins up with Snake after learning he had been lied to. Finally there's your Codec Comrades, Colonel Roy Campbell, Dr. Naomi Hunter, and Mei Ling, there's also Master Miller, who fans of Peace Walker and MGS5 will recognize as Kazuhira Miller, who actually turns out to be antagonist, Liquid Snake in disguise. Finally there's Natasha Romanenko... anyway. For villains we have the terrorist cell known as Foxhound, notable members consist of Psycho Mantis, a tragic character with one of the most prolific boss fights of all time and the only member who makes an effort to redeem himself before death. Sniper Wolf, the Sniper...who likes wolves. She has a rather tragic relationship with Hal, starting the trend of everybody Hal loves dying. Revolver Ocelot, who doesn't do too much here, is a series mainstay and only gets more interesting. And finally their boss, Liquid Snake who is of course, Solid Snakes cloned brother, both of which were cloned from series antagonist/protagonist Big Boss. Liquid, later called Eli, is the leader of Foxhound and possesses Big Boss' Dominant genes, while Solid possesses his recessive genes, however believing himself to possess the recessive genes, he harbors a particular hatred for Snake believing himself to be inferior to him. Combined with his inferiority complex over believing he's inferior to both Snake and Big Boss, and manipulation by Ocelot, causes Liquid to lash out at the world, trying to create an unstoppable war machine and prove his superiority, but of course, Snake wins, proving he is in fact superior to Liquid despite his genetic inferiority.

    Where the game shines is with its characters and its story, and I think where the remake The Twin Snakes fails is with its attempt to make it far more bombastic than it ever was meant to be. Snake's story is one of tragedy, and this first game takes itself far more seriously than the rest, giving him more emotional scenes between characters like Gray Fox, a returning character from the MSX games, and the adoptive brother of Naomi Hunter after killing her parents. His sacrifice at the end of the game to give Snake a fighting chance against REX, the following conversation with Naomi about when Snake will die with the FOXDIE virus that killed Liquid coursing through his veins, it's all played very straight and doesn't really mesh with TTS's weird, rocket surfing nonsense. Snake is a character who only gets better as his writing progresses, who's relationships only get deeper and more complicated with both his friends and enemies, and who's story only gets longer, until he's finally allowed to stop at the tail end of his life. And all of that is thanks to this game laying the groundwork, and unlike so many games that share a similar legacy, Metal Gear Solid holds up even today as a great game.    … Expand

    Un juego de sigilo y accion con una de las mejores narrativas, guiones, actores de doblaje y uno de los mejores Game Designers de la historia, Hideo Kojima.     It is literally full of those 'classic' moments that are all too rare these days. Whether it's the first time your footprints are discovered, the first time you perform a stealth kill, finding out the identity of the 'Ninja', solving the method of defeating Psycho Mantis, obtaining the camera and seeking out your first 'ghost'... there are so many classic memories.
