Apr 14, 2016Explicit narrative aside, I found Stranger of Sword City to be a real winner of a dungeon crawler.
-
May 19, 2016Stranger of Sword City is great fun but be warned that it is tough. However even if you die you'll soon come back to it, you can't help but think that maybe with a slightly different party or different weapons you'll get slightly further next time.
-
Apr 12, 2016It's unwelcoming and occasionally too difficult for its own good, but overall, 'Stranger of Sword City' is an accomplished dungeon crawler made by a team who clearly understands what makes the genre special.
-
Apr 11, 2016Stranger of Sword City is a competent dungeon crawler with teeth.
-
Apr 11, 2016If you are looking for a challenging RPG that gives you plenty of options, then give Stranger of Sword City a good look.
-
Apr 11, 2016Even with the slow grind, I have no reservations saying Stranger of Sword City is a damn fine dungeon crawler.
-
Apr 4, 2016Stranger of Sword City takes the fundamentals of the dungeon crawler and coats it with a twist of Japanese.
-
May 13, 2016Whereas the developer's previous game, Demon Gaze, went pretty heavy on the fan service, Stranger of Sword City is a tale about death and the afterlife, and it has a sombre art style to match.
-
Apr 21, 2016Classic RPG adventure with random encounters, first person perspective and lots of dungeons. A real challenge for long term users.
-
Apr 17, 2016Stranger of Sword City is a good dungeon crawler. It's quite hard, so it's recommended for those who are familiar with the genre.
-
Apr 14, 2016Stranger in Sword City is a brutal and uncompromising experience that’s well worth overcoming. It features some interesting gameplay ideas along with a terrific art style and an OST to match. If not for its few notable flaws, it could have easily been the best dungeon crawler on the Vita.
-
Apr 12, 2016Team Muramasa shows its expertise of the Dungeon RPG genre with this title that offers solid gameplay, as well as beautiful character illustrations, but it falls short on the technical side.
-
Apr 4, 2016Stranger of Sword City is a great first-person dungeon crawler for the Vita. Although marred by some annoyances, it is definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre.
-
May 20, 2016Quotation forthcoming.
-
Apr 26, 2016Most gamers could find something to enjoy with the title, but those who aren’t big genre fans may feel like it’s a long grind towards a lacklustre ending.
-
Apr 22, 2016Stranger of Sword City is a solid dungeon Japanese role-playing game devoid of any surprises.
-
Apr 12, 2016A deep dungeon crawler that may fall too flat on its visuals and is flawed for being only in English.
-
Apr 11, 2016Grab your sword, prepare to enjoy that character creation menu, and get ready to spend as much time in the hospital as in a 3D dungeon labyrinth.
-
Apr 11, 2016Despite its slow start, Stranger in Sword City matures into a compelling dungeon crawling RPG that's defined by its gritty atmosphere.
-
May 31, 2016A title aimed at a very specific audience that will find a challenge that throw hours thanks to turn-based combat system and its history.
-
Apr 11, 2016Stranger of Sword City excels at one thing, and really flounders at the others. It’s a rewarding experience if you’re a fan of challenging RPGs and gameplay depth. If you’re a fan of well-written dialogue, engaging music or proper difficulty curves though…well….there are a lot of other video games out there that may suit you better.
-
Apr 28, 2016Stranger of Sword City is a brutal and punishing crawler which hits hard and mercilessly every time the player makes a single mistake. It's gorgeous to look at and ultimately satisfying but still too much infuriating to be fun.
-
Apr 14, 2016There’s something to be said for the continuing efforts to keep turn-based RPGs viable, and Stranger of Sword City in particular shows a commendable willingness to at least try fusing new ideas with still-viable concepts of old. However, without characters even worth caring about to drive it along, Stranger of Sword City is left leaning on its gameplay, which is comprised primarily of the most laborious, antiquated aspects of the genre.
-
Oct 26, 2016I've enjoyed a number of dungeon crawlers over the years, but never have I felt compelled to go back and experience the earliest renditions of the type. Stranger of Sword City gave me some uncomfortable flashbacks to The Dark Spire while I played it, and one deliberately-archaic title in that mold was plenty to last me a very long time.
