Dec 12, 2025The Yakuza/ Like a Dragon series has become one of the most beloved video game franchises on the planet. They’re a combination of cinematic crime drama, fun third-person brawl combat, deep open world exploration, and insanely wacky sidequests and minigames. Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut is the best version of the game that brought the series into the mainstream. There are some changes that aren’t for the better, but overall, this is an excellent version of an all-time great video game.

However, the Director's Cut is a bittersweet package: while the quality-of-life improvements are welcome and the new scenes enrich the plot, the Red Light Raid online mode is disappointing and the Brazilian Portuguese localization disappoints due to its lack of polish.

Even though it's a victim of a marketing stunt that unfortunately don't match the result delivered under a "Director's Cut" label, the title maintains its mystique intact, exuding spectacle, noise, and an intensity like a dancing dragon across the night sky that, thankfully, refuses to turn off the lights in a everlasting party.
