Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a ton of fun, and though it has some issues it has been pretty addicting to play. This is one of those games though that you will get the most out of it if you are playing with friends and using mics, as teamwork is a must. Some great new game dynamics elevate this one above the fray, making it the best asymmetrical horror game in recent memory.

The skill system and balance are fine-tuned to offer each side a chance of victory, but the current state of the game for this review does come with a few moments of crashes and glitches. None of these take away from the fun and anxiety-inducing matchups players are bound to have.

Sumo Nottingham's fresh take on the asymmetric multiplayer genre is greatly welcomed. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre offers an intense horror experience when playing as the victims, and is equally as fun as chasing them down as the twisted Sawyer family. Faithfully capturing the iconic characters, and what made the original film so great, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a best in class of the genre.

It’s safe to say that our time with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre so far has had its ups and downs. We’ve generally loved playing as a killer, using our various skills to hunt down and execute unfortunate victims. Playing as a victim, however, our feelings are more complicated. Getting slaughtered while having no idea where you should be going or what you should be doing isn’t particularly enjoyable, though thankfully things do pick up once you’ve learned the maps a little. The sometimes finicky contextual actions and troublesome matchmaking remain, though, and the latter is only likely to get worse. In any case, there’s lots of fun to be had here for multiplayer horror fans. We’re just intrigued to see how Sumo Digital and Gun Interactive plan to keep the experience balanced and interesting in the long-term.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre not only does justice to the film it is inspired by, but is also a good exponent of the genre it belongs to. Unfortunately, however, the experience is characterized by a repetitiveness that becomes apparent rather quickly due not only to the serious lack of content available at launch, but also to a fairly rigid gameplay setting, which makes all the games similar to each other. While waiting to find out if and how the offer will be expanded with the reveal of the roadmap by the developers, we can say that we are faced with a product that still deserves to be tried by fans of games of this type, especially by those who can dive into the game via Xbox Game Pass.

The game is extremely faithful to the film which is an equal plus. What helps well in gameplay is that the maps are very well designed and the game has the necessary depth through the skill trees, which adds to the gameplay. At the same time, the content is quite limited and the game has some balance issues, as well as technical issues. As a result, the final result does not come out optimally. Despite these points, the game is worth a try for fans of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

The always-online multiplayer aspect comes with the usual latency issues: you’ll be chasing someone and land an attack but the other person has already run past you, meaning your attack doesn’t hit. We also ended up shutting doors on ourselves rather than behind us due to this issue — it's incredibly frustrating and can be the difference between a win and a loss. Combined with the occasional visual bugs, precise positioning for interactions, clunky user interface, long lobby wait times, and lack of content, this leaves The Texas Chain Saw Massacre on the floor bleeding out.

The game is much more complex than Dead by Daylight or Friday the 13tht the game. The maps are large and complex you always have several ways to escape the map. And they are hard to learn. The 4 vs. 3 multiplayer has revitalized the genre and it's not just silly button holding at the generator. I'm curious what content the developers will come up with, but at the moment it's definitely worth the money. Support projects like this if you enjoy the genre Expand

TheThis game is an absolute blast to play and a total love letter to the original film. The graphics, sound design and tone are perfection. The gameplay loop is challenging yet hugely rewarding once you master it. The balance between The Family and Victims feels very well placed. This game really shakes up the genre and offers totally new gameplay elements which have been missing in other games of this nature. It’s a brilliant start for the game and I hope it has a long future ahead. Kudos to Gun and Sumo for creating an amazing video game and paying homage to a beloved franchise. Expand

Broken, not fun to play and originality has been sacrificed to created a million Evolve/Dead by Daylight coop-multiplayer clone games.

Broken, not fun to play and originality has been sacrificed to created a million Evolve/Dead by Daylight coop-multiplayer clone games.

Why developers loophole the system and make the consumer beta test games, instead of indicating it is an Early Access build, I don't know but it needs to stop.
