This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Perfecto, excelente, hermoso, bien hecho.

The story is engaging, making a good balance between a serious one and in occasions with some good old jokes, for example, some lines between Sonic and Knuckles. Entering to a cyberspace stage and immediately you feel and get the vibes to the old good boost era, like those from Unleashed or Generations. Still, i would have themes based on the island rather than have them based on the classical zones like Green Hill, Chemical Plant or Sky Sanctuary. Unfortunately, one thing I'm about to give thumbs down is the controls. It's stills feels heavy, especially when sonic is boosting. I wish it was more smoothly like the open-zone. The music for the cyberspace stages is catchy and speaking of music, wow, I can't believe that we've got into the "Metal Gear Rising" mode with those Titans boss fights. Very metal and heavy, a love letter to fans of the metalcore/post-hardcore.

Game is no perfect, although there's definitely room for improvement like rid out of those pop-ins, and make it better the next time. Either way, it was a very long time I haven't experienced a sonic game like this before hand. And I'll be waiting what's next to come in this new era of Sonic.

The game was a really good time! It can be rough around the edges in a few areas, But it does so many things right! Down to the Boss fights, Exploration, Combat, Ect. If it can be this enjoyable at this stage, then it makes me extremely exited for the next title!

People have been review bombing this game, so I beg you to please try this game out for yourself And form your own opinion!

I still respect what they have done with this game I had fun for the first time since generations, the story/character interactions is something that I missed in previous entries, music goes hard in the open world, in cyberspace and the bosses and the combat in the open world and especially against the bosses is fun but a bit limiting in my opinion. Overall I really enjoyed this game for what it did and you should eventually give it a go when you can. Expand

+Crazy boss fights that come straight out of an anime. +So much to explore and collect!
+ Intense speed and action! + Beautiful overworld music like something straight out of Nier Automata or a Square Enix ost. + Laid back mini fishing games in each area to tone down after all the high intensity speed and action. I’m personally really loving it, the last 2 islands did feel kinda rushed though and 2D sections can be wonky but I’m glad those are short. There are a rare few 3d platform sections and I think 3d sonic should stay like this with those sections thrown in here and there to keep players engaged longer. Also I feel the last two islands should have had their own theme like the first 3. I think the last island while smaller then the first three, is big enough and all the islands should have been this big but with more islands to explore too with different themes like a snowy mountains, seaside etc.

Overall lovely game with a few quality of life changes needed that I feel would make it an outstanding game but that doesn’t mean it’s average, this game is brilliant. Team Sonic finally made a 3D Sonic worth playing (yes it’s better then Generations & Colours)! I personally loved it and at the end of the day, that’s all that should matter whenever you game.

However it needs improvement mostly with the combat system which I feel is far too easy for its own good, I like the fact it's fast paced and doesn't slow down the gameplay but I wish it required a bit more challange. Some of the pop in can get pretty bad in the game to the point it just breaks all immersion. Only reason I don't mind it is due to how much it is playing as Sonic as you are going too fast to care about the pop in. The game could be a solid 10 for me but the lack of polish and reuse of level themes really brings down the game.

The story was surprisingly good, thankfully it's not garbage or mediocre writing like what we got in the recent games and I think a true sonic fan would love the story and the lore introduced in this game. Sonic frontiers feels like something Sega themselves care about and I can't wait to see a sequel.

It's not the best sonic game but it is one of the best, it's a step in the right direction for the franchise if you ask me. And I hope Sega and Sonic team continue to evolve and continue to use this new open zone formate for future games. Sonic frontiers is a 9/10 for me but it could be better. This is some of the most fun you'll have in a sonic game and it deserves the praise

It's a good proof of concept for an open-world Sonic game, but it falls short in some key areas. If nothing else Sonic controls wonderfully in the overworld, which is what made me finish the game despite its flaws.

My biggest issue would have to be the actual content in the open zones. Much of your time playing Sonic Frontiers will be spent locating keys, gears, and memory tokens. These collectibles are found by fighting enemies, completing cyberspace levels, and going through short obstacle courses in the overworld. While this sounds like a fun gameplay loop I found each of these elements lacking.

The obstacle courses are scattered everywhere throughout the islands. Each one is a quick 20 to 30-second challenge that rewards the player with a memory token or vault key. Given how fun it is to control Sonic I figured these would be my favorite parts of the game, but they ended up being my least favorite. The vast majority of these sections tend to require very little player input. There is an abundance of springs, dash pads, and grind rails that require little control from the player and guide them to the end of the challenge. Most of the player input involves holding forward and using the homing attack on a string of three balloons. It's disappointing how little platforming actually needs to be done (in the open zones) considering Sonic's smooth controls.

Fighting enemies was also disappointing since it was hyped up in many of the game's trailers, but in the end, most enemies can be defeated by mashing the attack button. When mashing doesn't work the solution is usually to use Sonic's new Cyloop ability. Like the combat, the Cyloop was hyped up in marketing to be more impressive than it actually is. For both puzzles and combat, the Cyloop involves running in a single circle around an enemy or object and that's about it for the majority of the game. Besides the Cyloop, you can also use other special attacks by pressing one of the other face buttons during your button mashing. These look cool and flashy, but I quickly realized that most of the special moves were effectively short cutscenes that did massive damage for little effort. As far as I'm aware, Sonic has invincibility during these animations, so using them is usually more efficient than dodging or parrying. Boss enemies do offer short puzzles before you can button mash, so those were typically the most engaging. The Sumo enemies in particular were great. The true bosses of each island were also cool for the spectacle alone, but the combat was mostly more button-mashing.

The cyberspace levels were consistently my favorite part of the game. Though I'm sick of seeing Green Hill and Chemical plant the corrupted aesthetic made them visually interesting, unlike the dull overworld that lacks a distinct visual identity. The same sentiment applies to the music which was pretty good. These levels are where you can actually put Sonic's movement potential to use. You can explore the level for Red Rings or alternative paths and push yourself to the limit trying to get faster and faster as you master the stage. My only real complaints are the reused stage themes (there are only four themes btw) and the short length of each stage.

Overall Sonic Frontiers is okay, but it kinda feels like a tech demo at times meant to show how cool it would be to run fast in a grassy field. They were right, running fast in a grassy field is fun, but that can only go so far. If you like Sonic you have probably already bought this game and it's now your game of the year. If you don't like Sonic you'll find a middling open-world game with some cool movement. I'm somewhere in the middle. I love Sonic, but I think the game ranges from lackluster at worst and okay at best.

Finally, after almost 25years of half measures and mostly mediocre titles, Sonic has finally reached the 3D levels of gameplay it needed to reach. Yes, the pop in is absolutely inexcusable and the ancient gatekeeping grindy methods damage the flow of the game for no reason, but a wonderfully built base exists here, with a highly entertaining adventure in wonderfully melancholic world and a surprisingly well founded story, thankfully clean of Sonic’s annoying 3rd tier friends!
