I’m going to hazard a guess and say that the potential audience for Sacred 2 Remaster is very small. It’s a very simple, grindy, button-masher action RPG with a totally irrelevant plot. If you’re going to play and enjoy this, it’s because you get hooked on that simple, basic gameplay loop. And if you do… well, welcome to dozens upon dozens of hours of it. If you’ve never played Sacred 2 before, but enjoy Diablo-likes or Eurojank like Risen, Gothic or ELEX, then there’s every chance you’ll find this one amusing (and in the right way).

Though there is not much remastering, Sacred 2 Remaster stays faithful to the original release. Despite being somewhat dated and lacking multiplayer on consoles, there is still fun to be had in this sprawling action RPG.

There's some fun to be had with Sacred 2 Remaster, but on the whole it's a disappointing update of a classic RPG. Newcomers will find many aspects of it bewildering, using skills with a controller is overly fiddly and, worst of all, multiplayer isn't an option on consoles. Much more should have been done to bring this classic up to date.

Sacred 2: Remastered doesn’t do enough to make revisiting the original on current-gen consoles worthwhile.

Sacred 2 Remaster is an updated version of the nearly 20-year-old action RPG. It suffers from severe technical issues despite only modest improvements to controls and visuals. While the game still offers a vast world, countless quests, and the familiar loop of battling monsters and collecting loot, the remaster is plagued by bugs, missing tutorials, confusing mechanics, and the removal of multiplayer. Frequent glitches affect quests, inventory management, and trophies, leaving players frustrated even after multiple patches. Despite moments of enjoyment in its monster-slaying grind, the remaster cannot yet be recommended due to its instability.

I take no pleasure in admonishing this remaster. Sacred 2 occupies a small but precious space in my heart, and I’m shocked to see how disastrously this has turned out. There’s still fun to be salvaged from the wreckage, but I can’t ignore the fact that Sacred 2: Remaster qualifies as a defective product. I have so many questions about how this came out in the state it’s in, but one query stands above them all.
