    The gun play, movement, and graphics are all what you'd expect from a next gen exclusive like this: top notch. What is even more well done is the aesthetic of the game. The art-style of this game is simply unmatched. The xeno-species, the enemies you fight, the environments and the architecture are all so unbelievably interesting just to look at you will feel    This game is amazing.

    The gun play, movement, and graphics are all what you'd expect from a next gen exclusive like this: top notch. What is even more well done is the aesthetic of the game.

    The art-style of this game is simply unmatched. The xeno-species, the enemies you fight, the environments and the architecture are all so unbelievably interesting just to look at you will feel like you're in another place. The bosses. The BOSSES. Amazing set pieces with backdrops of atmospheric music. The boss in biome 3 had both me and my brother with our jaws on the floor at the awesome visuals and tension the game provides. Your body will react viscerally to the challenge - Increased heart rate, adrenaline flowing. This fight or flight response you'll get often in the game leads to truly satisfying victories; something rare in gaming these days. Truly, the bosses are a sight to behold and are among the best boss fights I've played in some time. Specifically from boss 2 and on; it's like watching a fireworks show as you play. Stunning. Most games can only dream of delivering such rewarding highs; many games these days are designed to make you feel powerful and hand you a participation trophy. This game will not give you one - If you expect that, it will knock you on your ass.

    People have been complaining about the difficulty. Yup. It's hard. It requires focus. But, I beat the game the day I got it - Yes, I beat it in about 10 hours. As a first time player, I was able to master the loop and beat it within one day. Some have been stuck in biome 1 for upwards of 20 hours. Your mileage will vary here, and it will be entirely based on your skill. If you love twitchy shooters, or games that require fast reflexes, this is for you. If your speed is more something like Ratchet and Clank (which is amazing in its own way) this game might be frustrating. It's never unfair, but it will demand focus, effort, and paying attention to the tells enemies will give you. You cannot check out and hope to breeze through. You have to play optimally. This is a "hardcore" game through and through. And I wouldn't compare it to Dark Souls either; it's not anything like that, and people who love DS might hate this - I hate DS and loved this game.

    The story, while segmented in telling, is captivating and compelling. I always wondered what was going on, and getting the next piece of the puzzle was always so cool. I actually cared and asked, "What's going on there? Who's that?" Bringing up something like R&C again, I couldn't care less about the story - The dialogue is always cringey, and I'd skip to get to the gameplay. That is not the case here. Every lore bit is tantalizing so that it will motivate you to continue playing to figure out the mystery of Atropos. The world they've created again is incredibly stunning, interesting, and original. Everything here feels so bespoke and effort-filled. The devs hit a homerun aesthetically here - And I can't deny the audio here helping. Guns, enemies, music, all sound perfect and work in harmony.

    I take a point off for the game lacking the refinement you'd expect in the "rogue-like" genre. It's not really a roguelike. It has a lot of metroidvania DNA as well, which I love. But so many of artifacts, consumables, and parasites feel like garbage, and you're just hoping to get what you need. In something like Hades, the game makes sure you have what you need to progress, and then it's on your skill. Sometimes here you'll have the run of gods, and others, you'll get smacked down 5 feet from your ship and there's not much you can do about that. There isn't a LOT of permanent progression. That comes mostly in the way of weapon traits you unlock, which are awesome, but you can't always enjoy because you just might not get the gun, or gun with the traits you want. There's a lot up to chance and the game could use some balance tweaks to make more fun.

    The game might suffer for some without a save feature; I felt it was fine, my game never crashed and my final cycle was only about 2 hours to beat the game. You likely won't lose much progress due to crashes or updates; that being said, they might update it to add a quicksave feature. Didn't feel like I needed it.

    Amazing, amazing game. It will stick with you - For better or for worse. If you have a PS5 and love a hardcore, challenging shooter/bullet hell - Pick this up.    … Expand

    Love the mini boss fights when the doors are locked or the optional yellow doors and the 3 waves of enemies you have to defeat.

    Do not get discouraged, the beginning is the hardest as you have to learn how to play the game and your weapons get stronger once you start learning new weapon abilities.

    I am at the last boss (I did not have enough healing to beat him, plus I am not the best gamer out there) and cannot wait to see what Housemarque will do on their next PS5 game!

    Absolutely incredible. THE game on PS5 right now and it isn’t even close. The graphics, the sound, the story, the gunplay... it all just comes together so nicely. This should be the first game every PS5 owner gets!

    This is my first roguelike game I have ever played and yes, it is hard at the beginning but with some practice you will be fine .Atmosphere, sound and graphics are just amazing, gameplay is so addictive.

Aunque cuando mueras tengas que empezar desde el principio, no se hace para nada frustrante y te hace seguir con ganas de intentar avanzar.     Hands down the best game of the year, One that brings me back to when games were challenging but also genuinely fun to play. Glad I waiting for the ability to suspend a run. Because the game challenges you and you want to meet it regardless of the time you've been playing.

    A masterpiece. One of the best rogue likes I've played. What makes it special is its deep Sci fi horror storyline and scores. The combat and graphics are phenomenal as well

    Amazing game! Fun, beautiful, punishing this game is perfect. I don’t mind not having a save feature because when you die you restart anyway. Having a save feature would take away from the punishing aspect of the game. The graphics are amazing with no weird glitches or anything. The load times are non existent which is impressive.     Goty for me, this is a game you invest in and get rewarded with great gameplay and some crazy bossfights! The game also chalenges you to pick up upgrades that are life treathening yet so compeling that is why you have to outway the good vs the bad with every run!!

    Really enjoyed this game. Was a bit unsure at first but once I got into it I found it great fun. Platinum trophy wasn't too difficult and am now enjoying the ascension dlc. Great music and fun gameplay. Sounds very difficult on paper but isn't once you get into it and find your own techniques.

    Definitely a blast to play and a showcase to witness. The vibrant colors and exotic looking aliens are on full display and the ps5's SSD is extremely fast throughout the entire game. No loading screens at all, just tons of fun and lots of swear words.

    This game needs a save point, I know. But it doesn't need a save to keep the stuff you farmed, just a save that allows players to turn off the console or close the game without lose that cycle. If you die, you still restart the cycle, that's the fun part, that's tricky, that's challenging, and that's it. The game is wonderful, I don't remember getting addicted this way playing a game sinceThis game needs a save point, I know. Dynamic 4k is good enough, and it has ray traced shadows reflections and all that fancy stuff. But the textures are ok,not very next get and the particles are insane.     Third, I would give this game a higher score but the lack of saving at the profile level makes things difficult. If someone else in my house wants to play the game. Then next time I log in my cycle starts over. A bit frustrating if I was on a good run when I left. The same issue happens if I reboot my PlayStation or if the game is updated. I was on a run where I nearly doubled my health and my gear level was 11. I got tired and went to bed. The game updated and my cycle started over. Meaning I lost a lot of my process and had to run the cycle over. While this is frustrating it's still not terrible. The cycle reset needs to be focused on Death only not if the application crashes or updates.    … Expand

    Just incredible. Amazingly fluid gameplay and a mysterious engaging story.
    It can be frustrating at times but you really feel how you're mastering the game more and more with each new cycle.

    I am not sure why this games score is so low. It's a fantastic and very addictive game. Very smooth and quick gameplay. Very hard but rewarding when you finally beat the bosses.

    Questo gioco mi è stato regalato nonostante che è punitivo mi regala belle soddisfazioni per me merita 10 buon combat System è sicuramente il gioco del 2021 bella la colonna sonora complimenti ad Housemarque voglio un sequel di Returnal con un altro titolo che eredità lo stesso combat System ma che diventa un openworld alla Kingdom Hearts mantenendo lo stile di Returnal con combattimentiQuesto gioco mi è stato regalato nonostante che è punitivo mi regala belle soddisfazioni per me merita 10 buon combat System è sicuramente il gioco del 2021 bella la colonna sonora complimenti ad Housemarque voglio un sequel di Returnal con un altro titolo che eredità lo stesso combat System ma che diventa un openworld alla Kingdom Hearts mantenendo lo stile di Returnal con combattimenti spaziali è un capolavoro le boss fight uno spettacolo.     Gostei muito, muito diferente é um novo estilo de jogo, chamo de um Metroid-rogue. Não vale 350,00 porém quando tiver promoção vale a pena comprar. O som deste jogo é fantástico.Nao tem gráfico magnífico mas o gameplay e o som misturado com o suspense e dualsenses... Vc não pode perder isso.

Don’t wanna spoil,so just say the story and adaptive triggers , 3Daudio all are amazing!! If you have PS5 DEFINITELY should try this game!!

    An extremely well crafted rogue like game that truly feels next gen. The team put a lot of love and care into all parts of the game. The gameplay is tight with an addictive gameplay loop, but I can see this game not being for everyone as it can be frustrating at times. But it’s the type of frustration where you’re ready to jump back in again because you can’t blame the game. The game mustAn extremely well crafted rogue like game that truly feels next gen. The gameplay is tight with an addictive gameplay loop, but I can see this game not being for everyone as it can be frustrating at times. But it’s the type of frustration where you’re ready to jump back in again because you can’t blame the game. The game must be played with a headset, because the ambient audio is absolutely incredible. The graphics and overall atmosphere are a huge reflection on 1990’s science fiction, and the environments are incredibly crafted. The story is actually really solid and well woven into the gameplay. Unfortunately the story completely fell apart in the finale, but throughout the mystery was great. The only issue is the lack of save system that everyone mentioned, but I’m certain this will be addressed in a patch. With that being said, I can completely understand how this is a game that is not for everyone.

    EDIT: Since they added a save feature, I’m revising my score from a 9 to a 10. Going back through it a second time is really making me appreciate the atmosphere and sound design even more.    … Expand

If you don’t like hard games, play something else. if you take your time and create a good build up during the game (which i know takes some time, but is so addictive!) then its not that hard.     É incrível a dificuldade do jogo, mas a cada "Retorno" você sente prazer em aprender algo novo da história ou até mesmo da jogabilidade.
    Realmente o jogo me surpreendeu, achei que seria algo bem fraco ao ver os trailers, mas curti demais o game a partir do momento que tive acesso.

    Un roguelite hecho y derecho. Super adictivo y con una historia muy interesante. Lo jugue varias horas al dia desde el lanzamiento y terminarlo es bastante satisfactorio. La experiencia del DualSense es genial y este juego demuestra que se terminara convirtiendo en una caracteristica muy buscada para futuros juegos.     It may seem unreasonable at first, but it is designed so that anyone can clear it if you understand the game system and devise a strategy. It's certainly difficult, but gives you a great gaming experience. I played the roguelike style for the first time, and I was very excited and enthusiastic about it. If you have a PS5, you should buy it definitely.

    This is my first roguelike game, I'm total noob in such loop and .... yes, I love it, yes it is difficult for me, makes me sweat and I love it. Fists game plays presented rather discouraged me, but I gave a try and I stack up in the loop, but what "lovely" kind of loop it is.     I've been looking forward to this game ever since it was showcased last year. Now having played the game it doesn't disappoint. However, it can be challenging some times and takes a bit of luck/skill to succeed. This game might not be for everyone as in it is like demon's sour dark souls but, there is something rewarding when you do get that good run and beat a boss to make progress.     A great, challenging game that's beautiful to look at. The difficultly is pitched just right so all bosses are tough at first but get easier after multiple runs as you learn they're attack patterns and weaknesses. A video game as video games should be. Evidently not for everyone though!

    This game is damn good ! My first Rogue like, usually not a fan of dying again and again, but the loop in this game is very well done. Plus, gameplay is addictive, you never want to abandon it. Each run you get better. Give it a try !

    I'm having a tonne of fun with Returnal, far more than expected. It's a brutal challenge especially in the beginning but once you find your flow and actually start taking your time, giving thought to which rooms to enter next, which weapons, upgrades, artifacts & consumables to pick up or come back to you'll really start to appreciate the level of detail that's    More Metriod than Prime.

    I'm having a tonne of fun with Returnal, far more than expected. It's a brutal challenge especially in the beginning but once you find your flow and actually start taking your time, giving thought to which rooms to enter next, which weapons, upgrades, artifacts & consumables to pick up or come back to you'll really start to appreciate the level of detail that's gone in to fine tuning the gameplay over any other aspect.

    Not to say that the graphics or sound are lagging behind, far from it. Returnal is fast, fluid and the neon colours of many, many special effects on screen really pop in HDR especially when played on an OLED TV. The sound design is equally outstanding with moody, atmospheric music & sounds that heighten the fast paced, Alien/ Prometheus esk setting.

    At it's core this game is a true 'gamer's' game and brings about a sensation that I've not felt from a game in a very long time which is a great thing. You won't be bored here. The shooting mechanics & bullet-hell gameplay is excellent and the Super Metriod style exploration and power ups make the game feel pleasently gamey like no other triple A game has. The game is more creepy than I expected as it pulls off the physiological horror elements very well too. The Dualsense controls, haptic feedback and controller sounds are by far the best implemented so far in a game this gen and go a long way to heighten the experience. Especially the adaptive triggers. Very impressive stuff and combined with 60fps it really is a treat to control. Is it worth £70?

    I will say that I certainly wasn't happy to learn that Sony's first party games this gen will cost £70 at launch. So much so that I vowed to wait for price drops as this is too much to ask for a game in my opinion. However. My girlfriend picked this up for a birthday present for me and I'm now left rethinking my decision moving forward.. I've sunk 35hrs in so far and they've flown by! I have so much more left to do and can't see me putting this down for a good while. I've still not quite finished the story but I've made it to biome (level, area) 5 out of 6 so far and can see me replaying over and over to get better equipment & weapons and taking on some daily challenges once I'm good enough. If this is the quality of an experience we get for £70 this gen I'm surprisingly happy about it. Go out and buy this game! You won't regretal it!    … Expand

    Gongrats Housemarque for this brilliant game, im very happy to see a roguelike AAA hardcore game on playstation and i hope to see more often game like this with big budget. All is perfect, the shooting, the atmosphere, the excellent use of dualsense, the sound. Im sure the hardcore gamers love returnal.

    Graphics are great, sound is epic and gameplay is smooth but challenging. Lack of save before quit can be frustrating to some people that dont have many hours to play each sitting like myself actually, but i still think this game is sooooooooo good that i can look past that. Best game ive played since Bloodborne and first game since Bloodborne that im going for the platinum trophy :)

    Superb game. Excellent gameplay, sublime audio, great graphics and fairly interesting story. Finished the first playthrough last night, no bugs. Did not find it overly difficult, but weapon choices and understanding the mechanics is important. Definitely highly recommended. Imo best ps5 game out there. Will do more runs and exploration starting today.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Been waiting for a next gen game that was built from the ground up and a completely new IP. The graphics/performance (60FPS), gameplay, and story are great and the developer deserves its kudos. Housemarque is a definitely a developer to keep an eye on. I'm genuinely excited to see what they do next.

    Initially the game kicks your ass but don't give up. I struggled in the beginning but got much better as I persisted. It gets easier as you progress in the game. Focus on unlocking weapon perks. Your progress is permanent and some traits are truly worth your time and will make the game a breeze. When you die during a run just remember that your weapon progress is making your stronger and will pick up where you left off when you start again. Ether carries over as well and becomes way more abundant in the second and third acts allowing you to use a resurrector each level without depleting your supply. When that frustration peaks, just remember that you are getting stronger each run. I really saw it when I finally unlocked certain weapon traits and literally cruised through the last few biomes and beat the game without dying on my first attempt. There is a method to the madness if you stay persistent.

    Definitely is my game of the year and I doubt that I will play anything better. The story is deep and intriguing and can be interpreted in many ways. Even though I have finished the game and seen the true ending, I have continued to play to unlock all the weapon traits and find all the collectables. So glad that I continued on and didn't give up. When you are successful in Returnal you truly feel a sense of accomplishment.    … Expand

Especially for this type of game where there is no save feature and you cannot even turn the console off otherwise you must start from scratch again. And that’s a 80 dollars game for crying out loud!! I don’t want to start another run now, I am scared that the game will crash right during the second boss fight!! NEVER have I scored a game zero.     Sound design, enemies, gunplay, location, level designs, biomes, lore, graphic: simply perfection.
    Not for all players, really hard but so fun.
    The haptic feedback and the 3d audio combined create an amazing experience, never heard a sound design better than this game.

    After 32 hours i beat the games act 2. Had 4 crashes, that ruined my fun for a time. But i still managed to play through it. Now i'm almost at platin and would love to have a dlc or a spin of with different characters.

    The German translation is very well done too.

    Btw, i kinda like that there is no save feature and hope there will never be one. It adds its own flavor to the game and makes it unique.    … Expand

    Awesome game, frustrating at first but super addictive. Not as hard as a fromsoft as it gets way easier after first biome with lots of shortcuts etc but the overall experience is very nice, once you get used to the rogue like reset cycles if you are not :)

    Amazing game...there’s definitely some growing pains and runs can feel painful if you don’t take out a boss. Also you can’t play other games in the middle of a run have to suspend...Everything from gameplay to graphics to the sense of accomplishment is first class. I feel like a kid again playing contra on SNES!! Once it clicks, it kicks!

    So far this game is awesome! Roguelite heaven. (5 hours in). I have only gotten to the 2nd biome but getting there was amazing! Best AAA rogue lite available.

    I finished the game two times already and I just wish it was longer and with more bosses. It's and amazing game. Takes some time to get good at it, but once you do, it's an amazing experience and I just want more of it.

L’esquive fait partie intégrante du gameplay autant que les armes pour ce défendre et c’est sans compter sur la multitude d’objets disponibles pour nous aider mais qui très souvent oblige en permanence à jonglé avec du bonus et du malus très intéressant qui nécessite de réfléchir un petit peu pour ne pas faire n’importe quoi,car les mauvaises décisions ce paient cache et nous font recommencer l’aventure depuis le début avec des raccourcis bienvenus,mais ces boucles sont l’essence même du rogue-lite avec ces difficultés à surmonter petit à petit car oui ils faut mourir pour progresser. En conclusion cette un jeu très intéressant et il serait dommage de passer à côté a cause de certaines polémiques justifiées ou non, si vous découvrez ce style assez particulier je conseille de ce renseigner un petit peu pour bien savoir où vous mettez les pieds.    … Expand

    Excellent Rogue-Lite/Shooter/Bullet-Hell. Housemark s'appuie sur sa maîtrise des jeux typés arcade pour nous proposer ici un jeu à la fois exigeant, agréable à prendre en main et offrant une magnifique sensation d'accomplissement. Techniquement solide, la direction artistique n'est pas en reste.
    Plein de choses le rendent accessible. Le jeu n'est pas si difficile.

    Fantastic game! Been playing none stop. Going for plat! Would recommend this game to anyone. It is a bit hard at the start but when you get used to it, it gets easier.

    A perfect example of the performance of the PS5 and all its functions. Great gameplay and the music catches and won't let go until you get to the bottom of it all. But in the end, the final may surprise you unpleasantly.
