Despite the excellent work done by FieldSENSE, Madden NFL 24 fails to solve some of the issues that have plagued the EA Sports saga for years. Adding poor menu navigation to predictable game modes and imperfect AI, the final result is a game that has some good moments, but has no chance to win the Superbowl.

Madden NFL 24 is an excellent product of the evolution of American football, which is celebrating its second decade. If you are a fan of this sport and only watched it on television, now is the perfect moment to try your hand at the game.

Madden NFL 24 is a good sports game, a playoff contender even – but you just never really get a sense this game is going to win the Super Bowl. That’s the fundamental flaw here: it’s a good effort from EA Tiburon with a lot of strong under-the-hood gameplay and presentation improvements, but the annual development cycle is preventing this series from really taking meaningful strides forward. Superstar, the reskinned Face of the Franchise, is fine for a few hours – and even Ultimate Team has improved to be more accessible overall. But cumbersome menus and a general sense of familiarity drop the ball, and prevent the release from reaching its full potential.

The promise was that Madden NFL 24 would be a game-changer in the series' history, but that's not the case. It has its positives, such as improvements in the Franchise mode and the grand return of Superstar mode, but it still carries over issues from previous years.

More of a rehashed Madden 23, Madden 24’s new additions do little to move the chains. Old hiccups return, new ones introduced, and it remains a title best suited for hardcore players.

Madden NFL 24 is yet another instalment of what has already existed in previous years with a few notable improvements.

While Madden NFL 24 is better than last year’s release, there are still some glaring shortcomings that hurt it, specifically with UI clunkiness, game mode access at times, and repetitiveness.

The improvements to the fundamental gameplay in Madden 24 continue to pay dividends with some of the most authentic football the series has ever seen. But, like an ill-timed penalty, the dreadfully slow menus and funneling toward tedious minigames wipe out any forward progress and move the series backward overall.

Madden NFL 24 makes several much-needed improvements to the on-field experience thanks to fantastic additions to animations and AI, but it still suffers from the same problems it always has once you get off the field: everything here is just done better in every other sports sim, even the other ones made by EA, and this year’s tweaks just aren’t enough to make up for the series’ continued feeling of sameness and lack of progress.

When it comes right down to it, I’m just not getting what I used to out of Madden. It doesn’t do much for me, and issues that I’ve had for several years are still there. That’s why I suggested a break at the beginning of this review. Something tells me it wouldn’t spell the end of the world. And yet, something else tells me dreaming of such a thing is wishful at best.

More than the game, a sport is a vibe, and the games representing the NBA, MLB and FIFA know it. Somewhere along the way, Madden lost it.

Madden NFL 24 feels like it needs a team talk that'll ruffle some feathers, but without it, the franchise feels like it'll be doomed to repeat the same season again, and again. It's time for EA to break the cycle, but if history is anything to go by, we could be approaching a redemption story.

To the naked eye, Madden 24 is discernible to the last few entries in the series due to its lack of innovation in its game modes and presentation. The late John Madden once said, “Winning is a great deodorant.” Right about now, the Madden franchise is starting to stink up the joint.

Once again people love the early access version and think it's good until EA patches it right back into Madden 15. At no point will you actually have control of the game. EA will again decide who wins.
They will make sure to rush you into ultimate team so you can become addicted to buying packs and hoping for a few more good players so you can finally get over that hump and dominate.
You never will. Do this... Go into MUT H2H and set it to friends only. You will see that you AND your friends all win between 45 and 63 winning percentage. By the way, you can check this on any system and any year of ultimate team. That's to encourage you to buy those packs then you wonder why all your reliable players begin to play like garbage as the new card you just upgraded to is absolutely on fire. After a month the new players become trash. Time to upgrade again. In fact you spend money and get cards, do quicksells for training which is a currency that you can't buy in cash but obviously you spent money in some way to get those training points. Also the same with certain holiday promotions. To make one player you have to buy his whole collection of cards. It all adds up but in EAs bank account. The deluxe edition gives you some junk for the ultimate team mode, each loading screen tries to beckon you to ultimate team. Be prepared for glitches, the game will be controlled by pre-programmed animations that take the control away from you so that EA can make sure that everyone has nearly the same record. AGAIN, that ensures that you "believe" that buying a few more players will have you optimistic that you will begin to dominate, but you won't. As an example, you may have Deion Sanders as your #1 cornerback then you buy Sauce Gardner. All of a sudden Deion starts to under perform, time to buy a new #1 corner. This happens all over your roster until the next Madden is released then when it is time for the new Madden to come out EA makes everything essentially free on this one. That serves to give everyone the GOD squad. Everyone has the exact same team which takes the fun out of the game and makes you want to start over on the next edition... Rinse and repeat, year after year.

They fixed the punt/kick return camera glitch from Madden 23, but you can't return punts in Superstar mode??? Wtf

    Definitely a slight

Definitely a slight improvement over last, but still a copy'n'paste turd sandwich. Game should be damn near perfect after 10+ years.

Another year another broken glitchy mess! EA’s EXCLUSIVITY LICENSE NEEDS TO GO AWAY! If EA wants to continue pumping out half assed garbageAnother year another broken glitchy mess! EA’s EXCLUSIVITY LICENSE NEEDS TO GO AWAY! If EA wants to continue pumping out half assed garbage like this, thats fine, but another company should be able to make NFL football as well. They charge $100 for players to play early and throw in other incentives but come launch day you not only do you not get what you pay for, you can’t even navigate the damn menus without being kicked off of the server. I personally don’t care for MUT but respect to those who do, thats what you like. I like franchise and its frustrating to see it be broken like this. As far as X’s and O’s go, I do like the gameplay. Running and blocking feels better but I have to give this a score of 0 because overall I’m just ready for a change and I want to possibly play an NFL 2k or NFL the show one day. Full Review »
