KAKU:Ancient Seal offers a solid adventure with versatile gameplay, engaging exploration in a colorful, primitive world. However, the story fails in developing the protagonist, and the game suffers from repetition due to an excessive number of puzzles in some activities.

Kaku: Ancient Seal is clearly aimed at kid gamers, perhaps those looking for a Zelda-like experience on their console of choice. I imagine that younger audiences will be very satisfied with Bingobell’s work, and older players may also find themselves hooked on the game’s various modes of progression or inviting visual design. Be prepared for some nagging performance problems, though if those don’t bother you, this is a great adventure to jump into.

KAKU: Ancient Seal is an endearing adventure with a vast, colorful world and a quirky flying pig companion. Its combat, puzzles, and story are uneven, but exploration and discovery make it enjoyable. If a sequel ever comes, it could be truly amazing if it builds upon the good that is here.

Beyond the shrine copies, though, I lack the real drive to want to keep playing. The cheap framing means that there's no spontaneous joy of discovery and the skill tree never fundamentally changes the battles; but at the end of the day, pure knock-off copies like Kaku: Ancient Seal aren't designed to be very good. It's enough that they're just good enough to keep the grandchild from crying on Christmas Eve and to keep the grandmother confident enough to buy games in the future.
