    What a true next Gen game should look ! After starting every second is breathtaking!

    Most of the time you spend 3 hours playing and when you look at your progress you’ve done 1% because exploration on an gorgeous world make you lose yourself for eternity ! Every console should have a “Horizon” for their fans!

    This game is beautiful. That's how I'll start this. The game runs well, and there is a lot to do. If you go on Twitter you'll see people using this game as cannon fodder for whatever side of the console war you stand on. I love Xbox and it's my primary system. But Horizon Forbidden West is a well made game that deserves recognition.

    For those giving low score to any game just because of the console wars: How fkn dare you use the console wars to invalidate the hard work of these passionate developers? Instead of giggling in front of your computer while giving a zero on fkn metacritic of a game you haven't even played, go get a job, a real job.

This game improves on everything that the first game did. and visually speaking, this game has the best graphics and is very detailed.     You can pretty much ignore all the scores below 7 and I tell you, if this game would have released on other platforms, the same people would praise this game to high heavens. I guess that’s what you get when your platform of choice hasn’t produced anything near the quality of this game in years.     This game is a masterpiece. Graphics, music, gameplay and story are exceptional. Want to emphasize dialogs in this game, characters with real-like emotions and body movement, it's like talking with real people. Great costumes too. Great game, having a pleasure playing it.

    biggest disappointment in awhile. I had very high expectations. The story is bland and unimaginative, the game play is very boring. Even the lauded graphic are underwhelming.

    There are 2 things I hate the most in video games, wokeness and those who have to find wokness in everything. Dispite what a bunch of reviews are saying, Horizon Forbiden west is not Woke. Now that that is out of the way, HFW is an amzing game in all aspects. The graphics are just amazing. The story is great and there is a ton to do but nothing feels repetitive.     Yes, okay ...it is a bit more "clunky" with the movement but, the game is awesome. I think it's a fun game, now with more of a challenge and it's a beautiful game too. One of the top 10 must have games for Sony players.

    I am not enjoying Horizon Forbidden West.

    First the good stuff, of which there is a lot. The world is vibrant and beautiful and feels much more alive than Zero Dawn which I'm using as comparison. I'm also saying that while Zero Dawn boasts one of the best open worlds ever. The colors pop, the animals are roaring and the settlements are brimming with activity. The environment is much more diverse and I do love the storms that regularly rage over you as a stark reminder of the toubles you are facing. The including of underwater exploration adds a lot of extra depth to the open world aspect, pun intended. The story is also fantastic and engaging. It feels connected to previous events while creating some new concepts and expanding on small details from Zero Dawn that people may not have thought much of at the time. There is much more team based stuff to do with our familiar side characters getting more action and screen time. Previous gameplay aspects like Cauldrons and Tallnecks offer a fresh approach to what could have been more of the same. We also get to explore new tribes and locations only seen by mention in the previous game. All of the above is why this game still gets 4 stars despite my own personal experiences. So here is the bad, and it's a big one. The main selling point of Zero Dawn. Machine Combat, was dynamic and strategic. It was fun to scan machines, figure our their weaknesses and slowly whittle them down and beat them and harvest their resources. In Horizon Forbidden West combat has gone from strategic to COMPLETELY INSANE. If Zero Dawn is Strategic Forbidden West is Chaotic. Now I am far removed from a pro gamer. So after completing Zero Dawn on Hard I start Forbidden West on Medium. Come to the first Machine, the Watcher of Forbidden West, the Burrower. First one, Silent Strike easy does it. Second one spots me and provides a HUGE rude awakening to Forbidden Wests new style of machine Combat.

    Eventually I dialed the difficulty down to a mix of Easy and Story thanks to the new Custom Difficulty. As I progress the machines only get tougher. The equivalent of a Lancehorn,  a Fanghorn can charge you with its antlers set on fire, reducing your vision, damaging you and causing fire damage. This machine can also launch projectile fire bombs, pounce at you from distance and attack with a number of Melee attacks. This is an entry level enemy. My experience with a Shellsnapper will tell you how much of my Forbidden West combat goes. Scan it unseen, check for its weak spot. So far so good. Get a few shots in. It's health bar doesn't move. I'm playing on Easy BTW. It spews ice balls at me. I dodge. They knock me down anyway. Now I am frozen. Now the machine, who is the size of a house lunges at me from further away than a Sawtooth can! Knocks me down again even during a roll dodge, which apparently doesn't shield you from harm anymore. So I turn to try and shoot another arrow, because Melee is suicide. Before I can even draw my bow it tail whips me, then explodes some kind of fire shield outwards knocking me down for the 400th time. Are you seeing a pattern forming? So I put my average brain to work and try and circle behind him. Turns out he has rear mounted canons that have a faster fire rate than you. If they shoot and stumble you, before you can recover, aim and draw your fastest bow it's canon has already shot a second time. So I start using acid arrows. Takes about 12. A few very low ticks of damage show, but it's armor remains. So I try for a second time. As its about to get corroded again thee thing digs underground. So silly me thinking it was a hiding mechanism. It pops it's head up, with most of its body still covered underground safe from acid arrows and blasts me with even more Ice bombs. Then it vanishes again and in one movement jumps out of the ground, breaks the world long jump record and lands on my head. I'm knocked down again. Yaaaay! Long story shot combat has become a mess of button mashing, aiming at anything you can while trying hopelessly not to get knocked down every 5 seconds. It feels like it takes forever for Aloy to get back up too. The machines patterns are too irratic to simply figure out a pattern of attack. They all move too quickly, attack faster than you, AND in packs and just all round make exploring the open world and farming for resources feel less fun and more of a chore.

    In Zero Dawn you spot a herd of machines and wonder how your going to take them all down.

    In Forbidden West you spot a herd of machines and wish you could avoid them.


    If Zero Dawn's combat is rated as a 10/10 then Forbidden West takes combat all the way to 1000/10. Pros must be loving the challenge. But us regular folk, the mere mortals of the world won't enjoy spending most of a fight knocked down, dodging or running.    … Expand

It's beautiful, yes, absolutely polished. A polished turd. Not an open world as it claims, as you cannot go anywhere the developers don't want you to go. Aloy has become useless, and it's sad. She was amazing and now as a character she is limited. I guess Sony was bothered by a strong woman. What's frustrating is that at one point she can do everything, climb to the highest peak, and then you run into a small rock that a six year old could climb and she can't do it. Being forced to have to only use the yellow grab bars to climb like an old Nintendo game ruins the gameplay and gets extremely frustrating. An example would be the Restless Weald relic. You have to jump up to a rope that is blocked by the doorway and because she is so extremely limited it's impossible. Apparently Sony doesn't think women are smart enough to, yknow, reach. She has become a damsel in distress rather than the badass banger she was. This is very disappointing. A huge step backwards for Sony, who is clearly losing their edge as their getting wiped by Xbox. After this, I'm honestly not excited about anymore PS Exclusives. They just don't care anymore and just produce crap like LJN. I just hope some of these other "gamers" expand their library and play a properly developed game.… Expand

    If you are interested in 30 fps gaming, ubisoft level of repetitive gaming, Horizon Forbidden West is for you. I am not even gonna mention this game is using checkboard 1800p which is absolutely looking blurry as hell. PS5 hardware can not even run last generation game at 4k 60 fps. Overall this game is so boring, combats are awful, story is very linear, aloy looks weird and talk too much

    I find this game as a large DLC with way too much talking. Game is way too open and just reminds me of any generic open world game. I did indeed love the first game, but to compared to it it just doesn't have the same magic in my opinion.

    Obviously the graphics are something absolute jawdropping in FW. But...
    The combat is broken. There is too many different "elementals" ("watering" really?) In ZD I used all arsenal, in FW only bow. Fortunately bow arrows are cheap and easily made, so I got my hands on best bow I could find and stuck with it until the end. Oh, and the main weapon, spear is SUPER useless with weird combos.
    Machines are even more like animals now. If you reskin them as crocodiles, monkeys and kangaroos and snakes it still would look credible.
    I hated violin music during the game. Please, its 2022, do not act like its XIX century... Better use cold minimal electronics instead, like when Alloy got to San Francisco.
    Game is too long for anyone willing to platinum it. You could easily cut off 20% of that. When I play game each day for more than 2 weeks, I get bored almost every time. FW was not able to defeat that feeling. Its too similiar to HZD, and I see it as the biggest issue.
    Story is really forgettable, obviously with forced lgbt elements. The ending is not spectacular at all, its just another mission to complete.
    This game is work of the team of mostly dutch people. If you can read between the lines, you can see how proud they are of their -isms and see included sense of superiority of their nation... I work with dutches in my daily work, and (geeee...) its really the same.
    After HZD I was hoping to see some spectacular retrospection of apocalyptic battles with humanity and those Horuses. Instead it always must be shallow and forgettable extraterrestial elements.
    This series is already in creative crisis.
    You can always pack the game with countless activities to make it feel better, but with FW Guerilla have pushed it beyond resonable limits, making it repetitive.
    The game is solid in terms of execution, presentation and gameplay, but lacks in some areas. It builds up the tension for most of the game, but ends up with just quiet slap instead of big bang. Just as if too much time was sacrificed making those side missions instead of main story. Publisher most probably pushed the release date too much.    … Expand

The map is humongous but with question marks peppered all over the place the game lacks a sense of discovery so you are robbed of the high you get when you stumble upon something on your own and the discoveries are not that great to begin with.     -I did not enjoy the climbing and swimming mechanics. Jumping on a rock and getting stuck there for a few verrrry long seconds while in combat is terrible.

    Ultimately, even though from a technical standpoint the 2nd game is better, I found the first one more enjoyable, likely due to being briefer and more streamlined. The main story is the strength of both games, and I feel the first was better on this point. Plus, more time was devoted to it relatively speaking, as there was less world to get lost in for dozens of hours    … Expand

    horizon forbidden west is a weird one because on one hand it has Huge and beautiful open world but it feels very empty with bland unrewarding and unsatisfying sidequests.
    Locations of interest and dungeons are starting to become repetitive, and as a completionist this is extremely frustrating because I like to check every question mark available.

    Combat is the same as before with machines being overly aggressive which makes combat a rolling/concentration fest with a lot of traps that in the end like in the first game becomes repetitive and unsatisfying. Spear combat has improved for sure, but I rarely use it when fighting machines unless I go for critical hits.

    aloy although retaining most of her skills and abilities from the first game got nerfed in weird areas and now even the weapons are nerfed and you need to level your weapons if you want real damage also most weapons got nerfed in terms of recourses for arrows because they were "to strong in the first game"

    the only good add ons to this game are without a doubt the swimming and the special abilities every weapons has

    but most of the time most of the things in the game felt like a check list of oh breath of the wild had a glider lets add a glider or the Witcher had a cool mini game lets add a cool mini game which the game didn't need and it didn't fit in the world of horizon

    Bandit camps are also suffering from past game’s direction, stealth in this game is never as satisfying and not there yet and it feels like they don't really fit and make sense in this game

    also aloy talks wayyyyy to much at some point i had to lower the dialog volume because she kept saying obvious things that i can clearly see for myself

    in short the game feels like a better looking and better feeling expansion for zero dawn it felt like i played this game before because it just copies and check marks a lot of preview third person open world games

    i wont even bother giving a proper review to this game because i already reviewed zero dawn and this game feels for better or worse exactly like it

    so my final score to this game is a 7.5 out of 10 its a good console game and fun at times but just feels like an over priced slightly better expansion to zero dawn rather then game of its own.    … Expand

    Good gameplay and not bad story in this part. But graphics are not that great. Especially in performance mode. To much noise,sharpening and low rez textures. Colours and lightning in HDR are terrible. Zero Dawn was perfect in every aspect,this one is not

    Great colorfull graphics. And that's it. Childish story telling and very very very boring story and dialogues. Some times the dialogues are cringe af.
    The only reason to play it, is for killing your time and just to say "I finished it".
    Compared to games like witcher 3, the last of us.. How the hell you rate this so high??!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not for everyone. It will appeal, most likely, mainly to those who enjoy exploring a good open world and **** robots. And that's why.
    The story has a really good idea, but only an idea. The plot reminds me of some anime, where you first assemble yourself an "infinity gauntlet" and a team of "party members", and then you go to fill the faces of enemies. The main problem with storytelling is dialogues and monologues. It's so monotonous, so boring that I can't talk about it properly... Absolutely no player participation, no one to compare myself with. The main character can be summed up in one word - annoying. You absolutely do not care about everyone and everything!
    Phew, okay. It was one of the most important narrative parts of the game, but the developers screwed everything up. Well, the Setting, as it was chic, remained so, at least in my opinion. The world is very good compared to "Horizon: Zero Dawn", it now has something to do so as not to get bored with the story.
    Another problem with "Horizon: Forbidden West" is the technical part of the game. Next-gen graphics are available on PS5 in 4K resolution and 30 FPS. 30 FPS Carl! We'll have to wait for the release on the PC, and maybe not have to ... Hmm. The game has bugs, and not a few. Sometimes they ruin the gameplay and immersion. For example, sometimes turning off AI for opponents, especially bosses. And also getting stuck in textures, not working the grip for the ledges during parkour.
    But overall, even in performance mode the game looks ok. Although, who the hell knows. The developers simply could not bring the game to a playable state, so they decided to release it on PS4. Or they deliberately decided not to make a particularly big breakthrough in graphics and therefore released the game on PS4. Who knows.
    My verdict is 7/10. Thank you for a great time and beautiful views!    … Expand

    Superbe suite, graphiquement parfois c’est pas ça et parfois c’est magnifique. L’histoire est prenante, les combats sont un peu brouillon par moment mais c’est clairement ça un GOTY pour le moment et pas cet EldenRing encensé par les médias qui au final est une belle arnaque.

    So far, been having a great time with the game! Apparently they recently released a patch for glitches and whatnot. Haven’t gotten any glitches myself, so coming from that perspective, it’s a pretty awesome game and a step up from the first!

    HFW was as much better than HZD as Mass Effect 2 from ME`. HFW is an absolute masterpiece. The graphics are insane. The gameplay and combat is way more fun and dynamic.. There are different classes you can focus on, making the game more rpg like. The puzzles are way less frustrating. I Loved every story quest and side quest.     Wonderful story, significant improvements to melee combat system, many new interesting weapons, additional new robo-animals and robo-dinosaurs, completely new territories this time also underwater ones, STAGGERING level of detail both form the air, on the ground or under water. All this tied with a beautiful bow of jaw-dropping graphics. Wonderful sequel to wonderful game

    The story is very nice and the gameplay is almost perfect. Some small bugs but is normal for new game, it will take some small update to fix all of them. The visuals and sound and nearly perfect. Also the side quests have more "soul" compare to previous game. The first game was very good but this is better in all the ways. From all the Sony exclusive(since PS5 arrive) this is the best one

    The game looks stunning,although looks over saturated at times it looks good, the gameplay is great and very smooth there are many pop-ins of assets and textures but if you are really hooked on to the gameplay and story you wouldn't notice these minor glitches, the character models look good too. I think this is a huge e step up from Zero dawn

    If you liked Horizon Zero Dawn, you will like this one. Has some additions to the original and feels just like Horizon does. A story you will sink into and love, even though it twists into a weird direction.

    I found that the progression system has been nicely improved. I played zero dawn on hard from start to finish and was impressed. However, so far, this sequel is proving to be an ever greater, more sophisticated challenge on hard. I love it.

It has an open world with plenty of things to do and places to explore, fights against some really well-developed machines and stunning visuals. The feeling is that the second game of the series improves on what was already great, and it feels rewarding and fun to play. It is another single-player masterpiece from Sony.
